I visited this place for the first time for my wife's birthday last night and it was amazing! We came in and were greeted and seated at a booth where I was able to put the order into a QR code website and pay immediately upon ordering. Even then, the staff was super sweet and attentive and the food came out hot and fast! Super grateful for the comped pork belly my wife received as well, it was super delicious! We also tried the Salmon, Udon, Fried Dumplings, and the Kimchi Katsu– I can't even pick a favorite! ❤️
Ordered this on DoorDash. Got the karaage bento box and it is THE BEST bento box main course I’ve ever had. I can’t say enough good things about this chicken. Although it’s described as a spicy soy ginger fried Chicken, my 1.5 year old (who likes a lil spice) LOVES it too. So don’t let the “spicy” in the description deter you from trying it. The portion is also enough to last two meals for me so that’s a huge plus. I refuse to give less than 5 stars because it was so good, however, the salad came with far less dressing than I prefer and there wasn’t near enough dipping sauce for the tempura (I received about 1/4 of what bento boxes with tempura usually come) I’d order it 100 times over for this incredible chicken
Heard of this restaurant from TikTok! It was a cool and chill experience. I loved the aesthetic and ease of the entrance as I was escorted to a table. Very modern concept to order food via the tablet. Then the food is taken to you. I honestly really loved the pork belly as my appetizer for it was juicy and paired really nice with rice! Then got a plate of the katsudon! I absolutely loved how crispy it was and was able to taste other little appetizers from the bento box! Recommend trying this place out!
Highly recommend. Authentic as lived in Japan 10 years and wife from there. All items were tasty, delicious, fantastic, and made my wife’s day to have authentic food and soba noodle on New Year’s Eve. Great food best we have had since leaving Japan. Definitely recommend. We had Kakuni, Sunomono, Okonomiyaki, Gyudon, Tempura Soba, Curry Udon, Spicy Pork Bento, Karaage Chicken,Takoyaki
The food here was very good! I had the Chicken Katsu with an additional Spicy Tuna Roll. Others had Ahi Tower, Udon and Tempura Shrimp. I loved the convenience of paying first and then employees bringing out your ordered dish freshly made. There was no need to wait for a check to be brought to your table. The restaurant was clean and we were able to self serve ourselves for water or get to go boxes if needed. I’ll definitely go to Abe Japanese Restaurant again!
The chicken katsu and steak were both delicious! The katsu was juicy, perfectly fried, and served on a rack to keep it crispy. For the steak, if you usually prefer medium rare, we recommend ordering it rare—the hot plate continues cooking it to the ideal temperature. Our table had a tablet making it easy to browse the menu, place our order, and pay.
Highly recommended. Delightful and delicious food. Very warm welcome and fast service by the staff. 12/20/24- Tried the chicken teriyaki and karaage bento boxes. Both dishes were awesome and sufficient quantity. Even the side of tempura veggies , shrimp and sushi rolls were flavorful. We also had the tiger roll which was basically sushi roll with shrimp tempura in it. Loved the chicken gyoza fried. My kid loved the food. Would surely visit again.
In comparison to other Japanese or Asian restaurants, Abe Japanese Restaurant provides exceptionally generous portions at a reasonable price point. I must admit, the quantity of food provided exceeded my expectations. The dishes I ordered were abundant, and the pricing was quite reasonable, resulting in a highly satisfactory dining experience. If you seek an establishment where you can indulge in a hearty meal without incurring significant financial strain, I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment. Both the portion sizes and the prices are exceptionally favorable. Furthermore, the quality of the cuisine is commendable.
A nice location that had plenty of space to eat. The location was not crowded and easy to get in and order. Ordering was a little odd, since there wasn't a full description of the items we were ordering, so we kinda had to hope we would get everything good. Some items didn't match their conventional name, like the Karaage was actually just a chicken leg and wing still connected and maybe fried once. Whereas you'd normally see such a named item being a twice fried chicken chunk. Other than that, the food all came out out of order and appetizers came out mixed in with other courses. The sukiyaki dish didn't really have any explanation of what to do, and for people like ourselves who didn't get raised eating these dishes, we had to research on the spot leading to a little difficulty. But each item served was delicious and we did enjoy the whole experience. I would recommend giving this location a try, the staff that we interacted with were friendly and attentive even though it was relatively close to closing time.
FOOD INSTAGRAM: @northtx.gemz •••• 🍒 WHAT THEY’RE KNOWN FOR: diverse menu of authentic Japanese food! 🍒 THE VIBE: surprisingly very modern with earth wood tones and you order through an iPad so kinda techy. 🍒 PRICE: ~$50 (with total + small tip- pricier than I thought!) 🍒 WOULD I COME BACK? Maybe. •••• Overall Rating: 7/10 - I love Japanese food but this place was pricier than other places I’ve tried before. - I specially came to try the okonomiyaki which is something I’ve generally never had before and tbh it was kind of soggy which I don’t know if it’s supposed to be like that in general. - The udon had great flavor actually do recommend that. - The bento box had a great variety. The salmon was okay it was slightly fishy!
If you are looking for Japanese food (not sushi) then this a great place to visit. The food is always on point and the portion sizes are definitely worth it, not to mention the relatively cheap (by today's standards) pricing. I usually get the curry katsu and it has yet to disappoint. Their tempura sampler is also really good. The bento box offerings are not so good so I would probably skip on those. I like how you order and pay from your table through their tablet. The service is what you'd expect from a sit down restaurant, but nothing bad to note there. I usually sit at the booth and prefer the privacy.
Came here for the first time on 12.27.24 with my family for dinner. The interior of the restaurant is minimalistic and chic. The fold was very delicious despite the fact that my kids were not fans of the cold soba noodles that they ordered. I'm giving this review 4 stars because as you soon as you order at the tablet at the table, it already asks you to pay and tip even though you haven't seen your waiter yet. Altogether, we enjoyed our meal there.
Was not what I expected. Heard lots of great things about Abe but it was just okay for us. Service was okay, food came out in a reasonable time. We ordered on an iPad that was on the table. Appreciated how the menu had pictures of the items for a lot of their food. Okinomiyaki was delicious though. Tables in the middle share seats with the table behind with no back support. Sit on the booths if you want back support.
Service was pretty quick, there's a tablet at the table that you order and they bring the food to you. I got the Unagi Ekiben, food was good but the portion size was a little small. It was mostly rice and one piece of Unagi. Kids got the Tonkatsu and Curry Katsu. It was good but we've had better at other restaurants around town. It's a little on the pricy side for the portion you get. It's good but there are also better Japanese options available.
I visited on a Thursday evening. I was shown to my table but not greeted. There was no explanation of how to order, so I had to figure out how to order using the tablet on the table. I had to calculate the tip before I could even order, even though I hadn't even received service. I had the raw salmon donburi and the eel donburi. The raw salmon donburi was unremarkable, and the roe was a bit salty. The rice bowl was too narrow, making it difficult to scoop the rice with the salmon, and it was small for $25. The eel donburi tasted like frozen, seasoned eel from the supermarket, cooked warm and served with a store-bought sauce. The shrimp tempura tasted like the store-bought version from Costco. Miso soup also water with miso with MSG. The toppings were also a combination of store-bought items. Most importantly, the rice was so chewy that the mushy eel had already melted in my mouth, leaving only the rice. We paid close to $50 for two and it was our last visit. The water wasn't even served, the server didn't bring it, no one asked if the food was okay, and no one said hello when we left. Please reheat the frozen eel and frozen shrimp tempura and eat at home.
Been coming for years. Usually a go to spot for curry katsu. But today's my last time. Quality has gone done and after providing feedback to management, they obvious don't care. They could've at least offer a replacement for the California roll and tempura, but nope. The avocado in the California roll is brown. The tempura is so dry, you can tell its been sitting out for hours. Katsu is fried to crisp. It shouldn't ever be this dark and I fry katsu all the time. When it's the dark as the pic, the oil burnt the batter. Also the fact that they keep changing their ordering service every couple months is an inconvenience. Rip to ABE. Note. If you decide to frequent here. Tip after you've eaten. Their current pay system is pay and tip upfront. I would've retracted my tip after this bs.
