I took my spouse here for his birthday and loved it. Gaby was an exceptional hostess, very welcoming, very attentive, knew the menu to give great recommendations, and always made sure we were doing well. Will definitely visit again. Recommend 10/10
One of the best meals I have ever had! This is the perfect spot for a fine dining, date night celebration! Our steaks were delicious and perfectly cooked. If you’re in Cedar Rapids you need to add this to your list!
We had very good food as well as service at Midtown Reserve. Steaks were hot and the quality of beef was parallel to what you would find in a big city. Cocktails were spot on and a great wine list was appreciated. The banana split to end the night was fabulous. We will definitely be back. So nice to see a restaurant of this caliber in Cedar Rapids!!
A hidden gem in the heart of Cedar Rapids, IA. The fine dining experience is on point. Their new casual menu looks amazing. I had the opportunity to try the wagyu burger and I have not stopped thinking about it since. If you want excellent food, drinks, and atmosphere; do not sleep on Midtown Reserve.
Sexy place with great food and drinks!❤️💋
Very enjoyable experience. Wait staff were very friendly and knowledgeable on the menu. Definitely will be our go to date night spot.
Loved it. Overall it was awesome. Service was excellent. Loved the atmosphere.
Need a reservation. Fantastic service, delicious food and wonderful atmosphere.
Exceptional food and service!
Excellent service. Justin and Megan was exceptional. Walleye was the best ever. The apple crisp desert was best I’ve ever had. Will differently be back. Thank you Midtown
This is for the newly opened lounge side of the business. Just went to get a cocktail and was looking for something a little more intimate than the average bar or brewery. This was perfect. Lad the espresso martini and a lavender gin martini. Both were handcrafted and perfect. Bartender was very nice and gave us a sample of the sangria. The food menu was upscale but approachable so we'll likely give that a try sometime. Wife has a shellfish allergy so only 2 out of the 5 appetizers were without shellfish. Pretty sure the items rotate so we'll try again soon. Well done Midtown.
My girlfriend and I went to Midtown Reserve one night while searching for a new steak restaurant. We had never been before so didn't know what to expect other than it has good reviews. The outside building was nondescript and we almost didn't notice it because the windows are dark tinted and it looked like a simple building. Upon entering it was completely different. The main dining area was a long and narrow corridor with tables on each side of the corridor. The kitchen was in the middle the length of the building with the opposite side of the kitchen with a bar and additional high tables for seating that was accessed by walking to the end of the corridor and going around the corner. The lighting was subdued, the atmosphere was excellent and quiet like an old style steak restaurant. Additionally there is a separate open lounge room off behind the bar side of the restaurant with several couches, chairs, and tables. The bar tenders will serve drinks, appetizers, and desserts in the lounge area. We sat in the main dining side of the restaurant for our meal. They had a very nice selection of cocktails and the drinks were very good. We decided to share a main course entree and ordered several sides to also share. We narrowed down our choices between the large bone-in ribeye and the filet mignon. I love the flavor of a good ribeye, but my girlfriend really enjoys filet mignon so we decided on the 12 oz filet mignon. We also ordered the French onion soup, a side of mashed potatoes and sauteed mushrooms, and a side of bread. The meal was superb. The mashed potatoes and sauteed mushrooms sides were delicious and, although we have had excellent filet mignon steaks at some other restaurants, the filet mignon at Midtown Reserve was the best filet mignon we have had in the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City corridor. It was very tender and the taste was incredible. Bone-in ribeye has always been my favorite steak, but this filet mignon was so good it rivals the flavor of a good ribeye. The waitress was very professional, friendly, and courteous, and the bartender was great at answering my questions about the bar side and lounge area. Between the excellent food and drinks, the very nice atmosphere, and the professional staff, our experience at Midtown Reserve was wonderful. We plan to visit again in the near future and will plan to have a drink in the relaxing lounge area after dinner. We look forward to trying their bone-in Ribeye steak next time, although it will be a tough decision to choose between the ribeye and the extremely tasty filet mignon. Superb restaurant!
Midtown Reserve is our go to Friday night date spot! Whether you want a more romantic, sit down dinner, or a fun, upscale seat at the bar, it is the best spot in CR! The food, drinks, and staff are all incredible.
Visited here with a friend Food was delicious, service was great , and atmosphere was wonderful
Tom and I went for a postponed Valentines dinner. We left there fully satisfied and happy. Our service was outstanding and the food was incredible. There was a nice size crowd in there and a table of folks that were having great fun.We sat by another couple that we had a great conversation with and got to know. There were several couples in there that were first timers and they all seemed to enjoy their food. We had extra attention by Megan and Gabby which we really appreciated. This was our first time there and we will be back. I thought the prices were on target for the quality and quantity of food we received. The presentation of food was A+++
Amazing! Lovely experience and the waitress was amazing. The dealers choice cocktail option was so fun! 10 out of 10, would definitely go again.
We stopped in for drinks and an appetizer. The bartender's choice is a fun way to get a custom cocktail and the fried calamari was really good with a nice zing.
Tonight, we visited Midtown Reserve for my niece's 25th birthday. The whole experience was great. The servers, bartenders, food, and ambiance were on point. Thanks for a great time. See you soon💜
Our waitress / the bartender was attentive and friendly, food was delicious, drinks were perfect, and ambiance was spot on.
Amazing experience all around. Service was top tier, food was even better and their drinks were perfect. Cannot wait to go back.
Cosmopolitans are yummy!! Frites were amazing. Lobster bisque was superb. Steak was fantastic. This was my 3rd visit and has been consistently food every time.
What an amazing place! Went here today for our anniversary and I can’t wait to go back. Yes it’s expensive, but you are paying for AMAZING FOOD! 100% recommended this place! Also the servers were amazing and always around. Never on their phones and was always available! Can’t say this enough but amazing food and an amazing place. If you are having a very special night i recommend this place!
Loved the intimate moody ambience. Entrees were cooked perfectly and drinks mixed well. Our favorite dishes were the Bone Marrow appetizer, Crab Cake add-on, and Sautéed Mushroom side dish.
We were here for a private dinner. Service and food were both over the top. Price is high relative to other places, but the food, service, and atmosphere are appropriate for the price point.
I've been all over country for the purpose of eating. This place is the best meal I've ever had. The crab stuffed mushrooms were amazing. Steak is phenomenal.
Great food overall! The quality of the dishes was excellent and everything we ordered was well prepared and full of flavor. You can really tell the kitchen puts care into both presentation and taste. The atmosphere is one of the highlights — the dim lighting creates a warm, intimate setting that’s perfect for date night or for taking someone out when you want to make a great impression. The only area that could use some improvement is the drink selection. It would be nice to see a few more options such as sparkling water, Coke Zero, and a broader variety of non-alcoholic beverages to complement the food. Overall, it was a great dining experience and I would absolutely come back again.
Brooklyn was our server and she was incredible!! She really made the experience for us. The food was so good, and the espresso martini I had made by Leah was one of the best I’ve had. This was our first time here but absolutely not our last. I think between the excellent service, excellent food & drink, this might be our new favorite spot.
First time at the restaurant and I was sure what to expect. We took a family member out for their birthday and we were very impressed! Service was great. Atmosphere was a little dark for some of us but not everyone but the food was absolutely fantastic! Overall it was an excellent experience and we will be back.
Really enjoyed our experience here. I loved the Wedge Salad and the New York Strip was excellent! The standouts were definitely the Truffle Frites (along with a side of Truffle Aioli) and Blood Orange Margarita! We sat in the dining room which was quiet and nice - I’m looking forward to trying out the lounge next time!
Highly recommend this fine dining experience. Calamari appetizer, 8 ounce filet, bacon wrapped asparagus, all perfectly cooked to order. Filet cut and seasoning were exquisite, cooked perfectly medium rare. Service was attentive but not overbearing, ie perfect! A memorable fine dining experience in the heart of the city.
While I do think the pricing is a little high, I have to say our first dining experience here was a great one. I got the 8 oz filet and it was fantastic. It was incredibly tender and flavorful. Up until visiting here, I had never found a place that served a decent steak in Cedar Rapids so this was a very nice surprise! My husband ordered the special, crab stuffed walleye, which was also excellent. We will definitely be back!
New Years Eve Dinner 2023 The Servers were Great!!! We had a party of four all enjoyed their dinner. I think the food and menu was very good like an old time Supper Club but a bit below the price point. I would say the owners are very proud of their business. The atmosphere was fine but not equal to the prices. The music in the dinning room was low enough that we could talk over the music. If you are a person looking for a very nice dinner and don't mind paying the price make a reservation and give this business a try.
Very classy but limited seating. The sever was very knowledgeable about the menu. The food was unbelievable! Only thing to know is that your entrees are priced separately from your sides. Very expensive but well worth the money!!
The entrance was a bit confusing but the atmosphere is nice. The food was good, drinks were good, staff was nice
We ate here for my birthday, from a recommendation from a friend. Food was very good, prices were a lil higher than expected but worth it, quality of food was great. Just wish the water served was cold, and they were short on the delicious bread, other than that it was perfect, and great service and I pass the recommendation on.. you won’t be disappointed.( except if there is a shortage of bread ) 😉.
Bartender was very accommodating which we greatly appreciated. The calamari was nicely done. Prices are a little steep.
We really enjoyed our time here—the food was very good, and we’ll definitely be back! The only thing that stood out to us was a bit of confusion about the restaurant’s overall vibe. It wasn’t clear whether it’s aiming to be a more upscale steakhouse or a lively, casual spot. If it’s the former, the music and table setup might need a more refined touch. If it’s the latter, brighter lighting and different artwork could help set the mood. It just felt like the space hasn’t quite figured out its identity yet. That said, we had a great meal and look forward to seeing how the place evolves!
Have eaten here three times and never been disappointed. My partner and I enjoy fine dining, so we're looking for the classics done well with a sprinkling of creativity. They've hit it out of the park each time. And they've been great with my gluten free needs.
Midtown Reserve offers a mixed dining experience that shows promise but falls short in certain areas, especially given the premium pricing. Starting with the positives, the appetizers were a highlight of the meal. The Brussel sprouts were expertly prepared, delivering a satisfying crunch and a well-balanced flavor. Similarly, the crab appetizer stood out with its fresh taste and delightful seasoning, making it a must-try for seafood lovers. However, the main course didn’t quite meet expectations. The steak, though seasoned well, was undercooked. This detracted from what could have been an exceptional dish. Additionally, the sides were disappointing. The frites and broccoli were pedestrian, lacking the creativity and flavor you would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Given the overall experience, the meal felt somewhat overpriced. While the appetizers set a promising tone, the main course and sides didn’t justify the expensive bill
Cedar Rapids Medq area-Carol read about this place, the guy was raving about the Wagu burger. We read online you needed a reservation and dress code policy… discovered the burger is on the bar menu and no reservation needed to sit in the bar (only place you can sit to get the burger (use the north door)). It’s dark and not real impressive of an atmosphere (we began in fine dining area, no real intimacy, dark, with next table close enough to pass the salt) then moved to the bar. The bar was dark, cinderblock walls. 2 all American burgers, frites, 2 Diet Pepsis with tip $62.50. The bartender/waitress was fine, the burgers were a bit greasy and pink! I’d of preferred closer to medium well done however (now that I think of it, the waitress never asked how we wanted our burgers done). The burger was nothing spectacular given the build up I was anticipating. The frites were bland, nothing special (no salt on the table). Would I go back for a special occasion? I don’t know, I know there are other venues in the area with better atmosphere and potentially equal or slightly better price point. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it more. I’m glad we tried it, we prefer supporting local establishments.
Been wanting to try Midtown for a while and figured our anniversary would be a great time - We spent a total of $170 for a side salad, french onion soup, filet steak, lobster tail, scallops and a total of 5 drinks. For what we ordered, I would say the price was fair, but not for the quality of the food. The service was good and our server was very nice. The steak was great and but slightly overcooked for what my husband ordered, and the lobster and scallops were on the rubbery side unfortunately. The scallops were only seared on one side, leaving the other side a little slimy and the lobster was tough and had that rubber texture also. (My cats will be very happy I brought home leftovers) Overall, I think the concept is a nice idea; but it wasn’t as upscale and we thought. The table next to us was rowdy and chewing tobacco most of the time we were there, which adds up for Iowa, but not for an almost $200 dining experience.
The inside i don’t like at all for an expensive restaurant. The service was wonderful. Two young women. I did have to ask for water a couple times but otherwise they were nice. My pasta was delicious. The lobster bisque was good but too watery. Overall is was good. I would go back. There aren’t many good restaurants in Cedar Rapids so for sure I would go back here over any other I tried in Cedar Rapids.
The service was great and the food was delicious! Best quality steak I've had in Cedar Rapids thus far. However, the atmosphere was really lacking. Not the kind of atmosphere and ambiance you would expect when spending $200+ on a meal. Service and food was very good, but probably wouldn't return.
Service was very good. Nice quiet atmosphere. Given the cost I was disappointed with the food. We had to send the crab stuffed mushrooms back as they were off. Steaks well seared and flavorful but too peppery for my taste but my wife very much enjoyed hers. Baked potato came naked instead of loaded and had to send back.
Food was subpar for the most part. Steak was a great cut but not sure they even salted it. French onion soup tasted as a thick salty au jus. Bacon wrapped asparagus was terrible-as if the bacon went bad. Side salads good portion and ok. Desserts were great as well as the drinks. Server Justin was great! Not worth the cost in the long run IMO.
Not worth the money. Ordered the fillet Oscar style. Very little crab and was shredded to bits. Steak itself was under seasoned. The drinks and dessert were the only highlight. But they were pricy.
Dry. Steak. Dry. Sauteed mushrooms. Dry. Even the horseradish was dry. Its like they dont believe in sauces, tender juicy steak, or buttery shrimp. Wine was good, service was excellent but sorry, food was meh.
This place is not safe for celiacs, despite having clearly marked gluten-free items and staff who confidently say they take allergies seriously. I ordered the seared salmon on a bed of pilaf with a baked potato. The food itself tasted great—rich, flavorful, no issues there. But the aftermath was another story. I didn’t end up with a simple “tummy ache” from a bit of contamination, I got full-blown, this-chef-doesn’t-understand-allergies sick. I was genuinely shocked that a place with this kind of atmosphere and price point could handle gluten-free preparation so poorly. If I had to guess, the issue came from either the pilaf under the salmon or a sauce used in the main dish. If you are gluten-free or have celiac disease, RUN from this place. It’s not worth going through what I just went through.
I had high hopes given how highly rates this steakhouse is. I come from California and all I can say is the idea is great. Execution is horrible. The wines they offer are comparable to boxed wines. The appetizers are not executed well. And the pizzas are not what you expect for the price. If you’re going to have a wine and pizze bar master a specific style of pizza and deliver a great product. Nothing is great. Everything is mediocre.
We have always enjoyed Midtown Reserve. The food is always good. Drinks are good. Service is good. Atmosphere is USUALLY good. This is the one complaint I have after a horrid experience. We have been here numerous times and never have we run into such a loud, obnoxious group as we did this evening. To the point that we may never come back again at the risk of dealing with this problem. There was a party of 12 people at a table near us screaming, swearing and just in general being super inconsiderate of all other patrons in the restaurant. You all need a party room to separate those who want to whoop it up and get hammered and scream and party from those trying to just have a nice dinner - or just close down taking tables for an evening if you’re going to have parties like this. The environment just doesn’t accommodate the two being mixed well. Part of what brings people to this restaurant is the quiet, intimate environment. When spending $200+ on dinner with my spouse I want to be able to hear what he is saying to me. Worst experience we’ve ever had here. If it weren’t for the food and the service I would have said 0 on this experience. It kindof ruined dinner to be sitting next to loud witch cackling laughter and f bombs every other word. (And I’m married to a Marine and am not easily offended - it was just that over the top!) 😕😡
