Great service and spectacular food!
Excellent experience. We chose this restaurant to spend New Year's Eve with our family. We truly had a wonderful time. The place is beautiful and well-appointed. The staff was welcoming and professional, creating an intimate and relaxing atmosphere. The food was excellent and high-quality. We immediately noticed the quality of the ingredients used, the freshest fish, and so on. The presentation and explanation of the individual dishes were very welcome. Thank you so much to all the staff. We will definitely be back.
Excellent restaurant. Friendly and professional staff. They also offered us chamomile and rose grappa, delicious! The dishes are delicious with quality ingredients. Fair prices. Recommended!
We organized a family birthday party. The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming, and the staff is kind and helpful. The owner, Paolo, offers a frank cuisine, focused on showcasing local products through recipes free from "pompous" reinterpretations. Paolo's commitment in taking over this historic restaurant, which was at risk of closing, is commendable: supporting these businesses is important to maintain a strong connection with our origins.
We went for lunch, the staff is very kind and friendly, the place is very clean as are the services. The food is excellent, with a nice choice of off-menu items proposed by the chef. Among the courses there is also the surprise of a “bombetta” of distillate. At the end of the meal a tasting of a wide variety of distillates produced right next to the place is offered. Another very positive note that I found, the chef who comes to greet in the room explaining the dishes. Definitely to return.
Osteria del Castello recently underwent a renovation that brought a breath of fresh air and quality. With a new chef and a new team, the restaurant has maintained the tradition of home cooking while adding a touch of innovation that never hurts. The menu, rich in typical dishes, is a celebration of local, fresh, and seasonal ingredients, which are enhanced in simple yet refined preparations. The cuisine is authentic, rich in authentic flavors, and knows how to satisfy even the most discerning palates. Not only the quality of the food, but also the friendliness of the staff is one of the most striking aspects. Always smiling and attentive, they create a welcoming and familiar atmosphere that makes you feel immediately at home. An excellent choice for those seeking a quality gastronomic experience that celebrates tradition and authenticity. A place where you can eat well and feel pampered, in an environment that successfully combines hospitality with truly appreciable cuisine. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Today we returned to Osteria del Castello for lunch, finding a warm and welcoming atmosphere with many new additions to the menu. Excellent selection of dishes, including excellent vegetarian options, meticulously crafted and presented, and prompt and attentive service. The tagliatelle with wild boar sauce and the spaghetti with nettles, pancetta, and truffle are highly recommended. It's impossible to leave without a slice of bonet! Chef Paolo Ferrua successfully blends tradition and innovation.
Seven of us went to eat with my sisters and brothers-in-law. They immediately brought us the house aperitif of panissa and fried gnocchi. Delicious! We started with the Desco del Castello, which had four types of cured meats and four types of cheese, all organic, as well as the fantastic Russian salad with beetroot. We then ordered the tasting menu: ravioli del plin with pre-boom sauce and fettuccine with wild boar, both delicious and beautifully presented. For the main course, the Branda Cujun, with its signature stockfish and Ligurian-style rabbit with truffle puree. We finished with tiramisu and moka pot coffee. At the end of the meal, they offered us a tasting of the liqueurs produced by "Origine." We spent €43 each with two bottles of divine Nebbiolo. Considering that the osteria only serves organic food and knowing the prices of the products used, we were all more than satisfied. Highly recommended. We will definitely be back.
The osteria is finally back!!!! Delicious food! Just the right amount, but above all, high quality! The fabulous pan fritto is a must, but the table and the handmade ravioli are delicious, and the pre-boom ragù is an old-fashioned ragù you absolutely must try!!! Compliments to Chef Paolo Ferrua and all the staff!!!
We had lunch on a Sunday, curious to try the cuisine of the new management. Starting with the Desco appetizers (Russian salad, cold cuts, cheeses with caramelized onions and mustard), battuta al taglio and a cheese board with mustards (all excellent quality) accompanied by Pan fritto and Panizza, we then moved on to the first ravioli al plin (handmade) with Preboom ragù... Although I am very critical of ragù in particular, offered in restaurants, I must say that I really liked this white ragù made in the old fashioned way and with different types of meat... I found it tasty and delicate at the same time... As a second course we chose brandacujun and veal strips... both good! Sweets bunet (the real Piedmontese bunet like grandma's!) and a pomegranate tiramisu, recommended by the chef, which I must say I found very good thanks to a delicate and light cream and the pomegranate seeds that gave it crunchiness... Good good... Finally, but not because they are less important, the Origine liqueurs ... I tried the ginger one, new to me, a little spicy but fresh. Will I go back? Absolutely! I compliment Chef Ferrua who I must say confirmed the expectations I had having read other reviews ... Keep it up! See you soon ...
Come back too... The relaunch of Osteria del Castello in Cengio Alto has finally begun, a place where home cooking has made you feel right at home since 1906. After some setbacks, it's back on track with the kitchen helmed by new Chef Paolo Ferrua, who has successfully revisited the menu while maintaining tradition. The new policy is to bring the osteria back to the level it deserves, using organic products and animals from small farms raised in captivity and in the wild. Saturday evening, I returned to this restaurant with my family and it felt like I'd stepped back in time. The staff is ready to welcome you. Upon entering, you pass by the kitchen where, as in the old days, the doors are open (I've always thought that open doors in a restaurant kitchen are synonymous with hospitality and serenity). We are escorted to our table, and despite the freezing evening outside, we enjoyed the warmth inside. First of all, I'd like to point out that the cover charge includes pan fritto (an ancient and delicious tradition of this restaurant), and panizza, in addition to regular bread, of course. We ordered: Piedmontese veal tartare with parmesan shavings and Russian salad as appetizers. For starters, borage ravioli stuffed with braised meat, dressed with oil and sage (my daughter polished them off, which means they were truly delicious), ravioli del plin di magro with wild mushrooms, and tagliatelle with wild boar sauce (sublime). We didn't try the main courses, but instead went straight to dessert: tiramisu, bunet, and apple torta paradiso. Coffee prepared in the old-fashioned way with a moka pot, and at the end of the meal, they offer a tasting of organic liqueurs and spirits. The menu boasts other dishes, all inviting, but we'll reserve them for next time—because yes, there will be a next time. The prices are in line with the location. Finally, a dinner worthy of the restaurant. The attentive and friendly staff always asked if everything was okay between courses, while at the end of the meal the chef himself came to the table, stopping to chat and explaining some new developments for the future. In short, after so many years, I think it's right to give a chance to those who, despite everything, still have the courage to put themselves out there. Well done!!! Keep it up and you'll soon see the results. Best of luck!!!! See you soon!!!
Hi, we went to eat tonight, all the dishes were very good and beautifully plated!! The risotto was worthy of an eight!!! 😉 The mashed potatoes with truffles were excellent!! Compliments to everyone!! We will definitely be back 🤗🤗 Elisa and Marco
Excellent traditional foods, great portions and wonderful wine. Make sure to ask for the Origine liqueurs from the distillery next door!

Authentic Ligurian food and excellent homemade spirits
Bravissimi👏👏👏🥇
We went to this restaurant for lunch hoping for a good experience, but unfortunately, we were very disappointed. We chose the set menu, but the value for money was truly terrible. The appetizers were truly disappointing: the cold cuts, for example, consisted only of salami and pancetta, without even a bit of prosciutto, which we expected to find on such a menu. The first courses were bland and characterless, lacking any flavor whatsoever. The second course, the stew, was a real disappointment: flimsy and too watery. As a side dish, we were served boiled potatoes, carrots, and broccoli, which seemed more like a canteen dish than a restaurant dish. The only positive note was the dessert, but it wasn't prepared by the restaurant, but rather a birthday cake we brought ourselves. Honestly, for €44 per person, we expected much more. I don't recommend it.
Unfortunately, it's nothing like the osteria I remembered. I've been there several times and the dishes were generous, featuring excellent home cooking. It was all gone. Only a few dishes, with a choice between a tasting menu and an à la carte menu, a few appetizers, two first courses, and two second courses. Cured meats were nothing special, the mixed antipasto wasn't quite as good as I remembered, the maltagliati with pesto that I had left over were bland and not homemade... The tagliolini with meat sauce were a little better. The service was inattentive; although the waiter was friendly, he seemed unfamiliar with the job. The prices were high for what we ate. I was very disappointed and sadly won't be returning.
