Reserved and visited from the restaurant week list. Lively vibe was exactly what we wanted. Noise level is also great. Just loud enough to have conversation with your party without worrying about anyone else ease dropping. We ordered 4-course meals and it was delicious and plenty. We barely finished our desserts and brought home leftover quesadillas.
Came here for brunch and bingo on a Sunday! The host of bingo was hysterical and did not disappoint. The food was phenomenal. The portions were massive and tasted yummy. One of the best brunches I’ve had in River North. Would highly recommend and will definitely be coming back. The service was great and prompt as well.
The enchiladas were really good! I prefer green sauce over red, but both come on the plate if you don’t ask for one sauce specifically so you can try for yourself! Service was great, the interiors are gorgeous. Wonderful spot for a relatively quick dinner.
We came here for Saturday brunch. We ordered 6 different dishes and they were all delicious!! Service was amazing and the food had so much flavor! Perfect place for incredible food
We were looking for a restaurant near our hotel and stumbled upon Barrio. Even without a reservation, we were seated right away. The menu was concise but packed with tempting options. We ordered the pico de gallo with chips and salsa, Baja fish tacos as a bowl, skirt steak tacos, skirt steak as a bowl, a few drinks, and the tres leches cake — and everything was absolutely outstanding. The food was not only delicious but truly memorable, with flavors seasoned to perfection and generous portions. The service was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. My only regret was not trying the tableside guacamole! This place is an absolute must-try — do yourself a favor and don’t miss this gem of a restaurant.
Was such a great experience at this Mexican restaurant. The food and drinks were amazing. The table side guac was one of the best I've had, made fresh right in front of you. Table service was amazing and the staff were exceptional. Was a busy time but they had us seated right away and got us going. Highly recommend!
Not sure why this isn't a 4.5 or higher rated Mexican restaurant. The food was fantastic. The table side guac was one of the best I've had, and my fish tacos were full of flavor. The margarita pitcher was delicious but the "special" was still overpriced for the portion.
A nice and vibrant place if you would like to have some amazing Mexican food. We started off with their margaritas which were spicy and potent. Their salad was really fresh and portion enough for two people. Their carnitas fried rice was really flavorful. In all a great experience good vibe and good food.
Great drinks, great food, great vibes! The table side guacamole was fun to watch and we loved how we could customize it to our liking. The Mexican cornbread was so delicious and the tacos were super yummy, with crispy fried shrimp and juicy steak, respectively. Fun spot for us celebrating a birthday!
I went here for my birthday, it was a beautiful place! The food was fantastic from the appetizers, Chips & Queso, the drinks, The Margarita Tower, to the entree of quesabrria tacos 10/10 so good !
Came in on a Saturday night for their restaurant week menu. All of the food was delicious! We also got a couple margaritas and a house shot, really enjoyed the margaritas but the house shot really only tasted like liquor even though they’re described as a mixed shot (however, still a good deal for $6!). Our waitress was friendly, but the service was a little slow. I assume they might have been short staffed because we had a manager come check on us a few times. I would definitely recommend coming in for some elevated Mexican food and good drinks! I’d highly recommend the tuna ceviche taco, chicken al pastor tacos, and the pineapple margarita.
Olives in a taco salad?! Great food, good music, excellent service. Would come back for the food here, but can't get past the olives in the taco salad...
I’ve been to barrio about five or six times since the pandemic, one of the first brunch places I went to back when everything started to open. Usually I go for the unlimited mimosas and brunch , everything is always amazing and the service is always immaculate. This time we went for my boyfriend’s mother’s birthday dinner and it was nothing short of amazing. It’s the first time that I got the tableside guacamole and it was amazing .I was truly in love. My fajitas were good and fresh just needed a bit more seasoning.
Enjoyed the Tuesday night special while staying in Chicago—$5 tacos. The tacos were good. Enjoyed the seasoning and slaw. Yummy flavor. Great fast service. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the evening dining outside. It was very nice!
Had a fantastic Valentine’s Day meal here with my family. I personally liked everything from the chicken empanadas and Mexican cornbread to my chicken and steak fajitas. Desserts were oh so good too. Margaritas were freshly made and when I asked to make it skinny it was actually skinny with notably less sugar. Bravo. Service was outstanding, and atmosphere was loud enough to bring energy but not overpowering where we couldn’t hear ourselves talk. Highly recommend this place ! Oh also forsure get the table side guac. They let you taste it before they’re done and you can doctor it up how you like. It. Is. FIRE 🔥
Great staff and atmosphere. We came with a large group of almost 20 people and the staff were really accommodating the whole night.
Hands down a must if you love Mexican. The Octopus and shrimp ceviche was delicious, light, and fresh. My chicken al pastor tacos were perfect. My bestie had chicken al pastor enchilada. The best she ever had! The sauces with the enchilada were the best I ever tasted. A great vibe and great upbeat music. We sat outside and every now and again had a slight sewer smell. We could have moved inside but still enjoyed since the smell was very intermittent with the wind. Maybe smelled 10 percent of our visit. The inside was a bit loud if you had kids. I would return again and again. Wish we found this sooner!
This place is pricey, but well worth it. The salsa was amazing. The cornbread was out of this world. Waitress was incredibly nice, knowledgeable and helpful. Outside eatery was beautiful. Bathrooms are super nice. My boyfriend got the octopus tacos and loved them. I got the fried rice and it was so good and unique. You won’t be disappointed with this restaurant
I just had my birthday here and the food, drinks, service and atmosphere was amazing! My server Payton was super nice! Her recommendations on the drinks and food for my husband and I was on point! We had the pleasure to meet one of the managers Chris who reassured occasionally if things were going well and if we needed anything. The music was also a nice finishing touch and how ironic was my birthday on a “TACO TUESDAY” night! I highly recommend this place. I know I will be back!
This is a very pricey place for food that is not excellent but it's good enough and it's a great place for fun and drinks. I gave them five stars because the tres Lecha cake dessert is really amazing. The cake is very spongy, and had a nice big fat, mint leaf, the blueberries were good, the condensed milk along with the caramel on the side was really good and the cake was very moist, and there was a lot of milk and milk throughout the cake, which is a perfect combination. They have actual candles The margarita tasted really good and it has spicy flakes with salt around the glass. The $16 taco salad was a good vegetarian option for me, which also had cheese, which is fine with me, but it was way too spicy for someone who does not like anything spicy, and I did not see anything described in the menu that it was spicy. So I was suffering And my sinuses were cleared. I also was looking forward to a lot of salad and fresh tomato pieces and cilantro and onions, and I didn't like the vinegar based onions in there because it was too vinegary. I would've preferred sauce on the side I could put as much as I want instead of everything being in that pre-mixed taco salad sauce, if I come back for the next time to order it again. The $21 Carnitas fried rice was really good and had fresh rice and fried egg with onions and pork. But I felt the serving size for the high price was very small because I kind of expected twice the amount of rice because rice doesn't cost that much. If you're hungry, you might want to get something else. It gets pretty crowded right after work so it's pretty loud in here, but at least the music is not blurring like some places might be. Overall, the ambience is great, the drinks are good. The food is OK. They offer tres leche cake, which is my favorite for $13. It's one of the best desserts offered at a restaurant and Barrio did it so well. Oh, and they also have outdoor seating. The decor and all the special rooms are very pretty and cozy to enjoy w friends and family. And they have weekly rotating special deals like five dollar tacos on Tuesdays and we can brunch drinks that are bottomless.
Enjoyed a nice birthday brunch with my girlfriends. The ambience was great, Latin music in the background. We ordered bottomless mimosas, which tasted good & the price was not bad at all ($35/person). However, they were not as quick to refill the glasses, we had to constantly try to get our waitresses attention to get them refilled. The food was great, I ordered chilaquiles with over easy eggs (picture shown), not spicy, could have added more sauce, but overall tasty. As a birthday treat (which was included on the bill, not on the house) was DELICIOUS, loved that it had fresh bananas & strawberries with different flavor cake pieces, ice cream, & topped off with caramel & chocolate syrup. Overall, I will visit again.
I was seated immediately and got there right after opening, our hostess was great! She was helpful in my decision on what to order and got us our food quickly. I got a few of the appetizers as my meal because they sounded delicious and they were! The chicken empanada and the mushroom taco were DELICIOUS! Then to follow I got a tres leches cake and WOW was it good! I walked out full and happy and already planning on coming back!
Waitress was awesome and the food was great. And to top it off my little brother Mike works here so that made the experience even greater.
Sarah was an amazing server! Would 100% come back again!
A beautiful girls night out here at Barrio was an amazing 11/10 experience! Food was amazing and the vibes were 100% there. Great service and music! I highly recommend a visit if you’re in need of a night out. I will definitely be back!
The food here is superb, the atmosphere is amazing, but the real draw is the Phenomenal service. Our server Ana was very knowledgeable about the menu and the beverages, she had great recommendations and was all around super sweet and fun to talk to! When we come back, we are definitely requesting her. She’s the best! thank you to Ana & the awesome staff at Barrio :)
Steak and eggs is good, potatoes have a lot of oil. And chicken fajitas have a taste of tequila just be aware. Place is really nice and people are really kind in this place!
Nice place, modern, food was very good. It's noisy and they were slow on getting the food out, even appetizers. Our main server was very good and attentive so it maybe a reflection of how busy they were. They have gluten free options too. We had a party of 7 so had made a reservation and we didnt wait at all. Drinks were good too. I would recommend them.
We went for Sunday brunch, and I have the fried chicken and churros. A nice combo and the churros, syrup and hot sauce were very good. The issue is the chicken was small and I was still hungry. A person in our group had a bottomless mimosa and the server was really good about refilling it.
The food was good, we ordered the Quesabarria and a steak taco. Both were good. The service was exceptional, the manager knew ingredients and provided a sense of ease with allergies. Would definitely come again.
Great food but not so great service Had to keep on reminding about refills Tres Leches average Fajitas a bit too salty for my palate
came for restaurant week 2025! this place is definitely vegetarian friendly. we had to wait awhile for a server to greet us, but once she did it was fine! i ordered the lavender hibiscus margarita and i loved it. my favorite part of the meal was the enchiladas, i saved some to take togo and they were still good the next day!
Our food was great! The salsa you order is spicy! My Pineapple Margarita was delicious!!! Natalie was a great waitress!!!! Now, the music. The music is loud. You can not hold a conversation with your table because we couldn't hear each other. The DJ kept playing what seemed like the same techno music over and over. Barrio would be a much better restaurant if they had soundboards, and had the music at a conversation friendly volume.
The guacamole is pretty good. The guacamole is freshly prepared directly at the table. The customer's wishes are taken into account if some ingredients are not desired. We ordered starters to start. Our drinks were served fast but one drink was wrong wich the server realized but it self and changed the drink. After the drinks our main dishes were served. All the main dishes tasted good. We asked for the starters, which were then served with the main courses. The service manager even apologized for this, which is really great. However, the charm of a starter was lost as a result. The ceviche, one of the starters, was not to our taste. Instead of the usual sour taste of lime, it was very spicy. Because it was delivered late, we did not charge for the ceviche. Our waiter was always very attentive. Now and again he lacked insight and reliability in the form of completely clearing away the dishes. In general, it was still a nice visit to the restaurant, the location is beautiful, cozy and inviting.
I came for restaurant week & it didn't disappoint! Great atmosphere, flavorful food, good service but a smidge slow. They appeared understaffed which is the standard now. Sole complaint is that the chicken tortilla soup was cold. I sent it back and the replacement was also cool. Maybe it is served cool vs hot, like gazpacho but overall good flavor.
Very fun atmosphere, beautifully decorated, good sized portions. If you're going to get tacos, make it a bowl. Make sure to try the churros and the fried ice cream for dessert. Service can be slow on a busy night, but if you can take your time and have a long dinner, it's the perfect place.
Tasty food, quality ingredients, but a little pricey for smaller portions. Carnitas fried rice is the best item we tried! — We enjoyed our experience at Barrio, a trendy Mexican eatery. We started with the esquites style corn and two mini chicken empanadas. The corn was a good size for the price and was decently tasty, though I think it could’ve had a few more spices. To me, the mini chicken empanadas were a miss. They are $5 each and are about the size of my thumb pad – tasty but not worth the price for what is essentially half a bite. We continued the meal with the chicken Al Pastor tacos and the Carnitas fried rice. I enjoyed the marinade on the tacos and thought they had a good combination of spice, acidity, and sweetness. The star of the meal was the carnitas fried rice – the crispy pork carnitas were perfectly salty and juicy, and they mixed well with the fried egg and spicy adobo sauce into a rich flavorful rice mixture that tasted almost like a risotto. Would definitely recommend it!
I had the chicken al pastor tacos and they were delicious! The server was very kind and when I explained that we had to be at a play in about an hour, he made sure to get us our meals right away which I really appreciated! However, I do think that $30 (including fees, taxes, and tip) for water and 3 small tacos is far too expensive.
We went for happy hour. We got there right at the start of happy hour and it was empty, but it filled up super quickly. We sat at the bar - each bartender that helped us would disappear after he delivered our drink...so we had to order each subsequent drink from a different bartender. The drinks were pretty good, but not very strong and had lots of ice. We also had some guacamole with housemade chips which was pretty good.
The servers at the bar were attentive and worked fast to make sure everyone was served in a timely manner but they were not friendly may be because they were busy. The food was ok, and overall priced.
Went there for Sunday brunch with out of town family. Place was highly recommended by other family members so we were very excited to go there. Unfortunately our experience wasn't as advertised. We had a reservation and had a table ready. It appears no server was assigned to us, as after 20 mins the bartender came up to take our order. We were not sitting at the bar. Took about 25 mins to receive our drinks. After an hour of waiting for our food, we decided to inquire to some random server who just happened to pass by. Its worth to note that the place wasn't really busy. He ended up calling the manager who came up to our table. She was very apologetic and accommodating, removing a sizeable portion of our bill. When the food came, it was incredible, everyone loved their plates. The DJ was hosting bingo and he was a blast. Overall, if it wasn't for the absurd wait for out food, this would've been a 4+ stars review. I will be back, and change the service review if we have a better experience around.
Not the best but not the worst. The thing is for the price of things you’d expect top-notch everything but it just wasn’t that. It was good but not anything worth raving about. We were a party of 8 and most of our tacos were kinda cold. It was also for a birthday and 2 of us mentioned to our server multiple times about it but it seemed like they forgot until we reminded them again. There’s was also some server miscommunication about pricing for the Thirsty Thursday pitcher special. Overall it’s a nice spot for a dinner visually but logistically no.
The food was SUPERB but the service wasn’t upto the standards. We got a table real quick (for 2ppl) but the waiter took for ever to attend to us. We ordered our drinks and the drinks came after the food (Enchiladas and Al Pastor tacos) was served. We wanted to order more and we were told they already called for the last order. Ummmm our waiter didn’t even come to check on us after the food was served and we were not told about the last order. We ordered another round of Al Pastor tacos after complaining.
Food was ok. Tuna tacos were good. The ceviche seemed just like small shrimp with brown adobo sauce, not a fresh bright citrus avocado mix. The rest was just tex-mex. Atmosphere was "fajitas on a slizzle platter". Service was chaos. Server forgot the drinks, then finally brought them. Then someone else brought duplicates. Waited for desert so long, everyone was done and just wanted to leave. No sign of the server. Then server appolgized for slow service, and said they would take the drinks off the bill but didn't. Just seems like a lot of training is needed and maybe a rethink.
The service was pretty slow. We were a party of 8 so gratuity was automatically added so I feel like that contributed to why our waitress was rarely seen by us. We spent way too much money for the poor service we received. Good note.. the margarita tower was good! 4 of us each got 3 fills from it. Tableside guacamole was good as well.
Barrio Mexican restaurant offers a visually stunning ambiance with attentive staff, but falls short in taste consistency across dishes.Upon entering Barrio, one is greeted by a beautifully decorated environment and welcoming staff. However, the dining experience takes a hit when it comes to the food. The Taco Tower, though featuring a variety of fillings, disappoints with its lack of overall flavor cohesion. While the steak and shrimp were enjoyable, the chicken failed to impress, resulting in a lackluster taco experience overall. The Guacamole, unfortunately, adds to the culinary disappointment. Despite the pleasant surprise of the serving size, the taste leans heavily towards avocado, overshadowing other potential flavor profiles. This discrepancy in taste could have been avoided with clearer communication from the server regarding the serving situation.Despite these shortcomings, the staff at Barrio remain a highlight, offering attentive service throughout the meal. Additionally, the drinks provided a pleasant contrast to the underwhelming food, adding to the overall enjoyment of the dining experience. In summary, while Barrio Mexican restaurant excels in ambiance and service, it falls short in delivering consistently flavorful dishes. Despite the mixed experience, the restaurant shows promise with potential for improvement in taste cohesion and communication regarding menu offerings.
Five star for the ambience. The food was pathetic. Tasteless literally left our food unfinished. We ordered bunch of items but didn’t eat anything much. The only thing I enjoyed was the Michelada that I ordered and the cocktail Margarita, other than that the food was not at all tasty They tried to make it look fusion but it was a horrible disaster. I’m a foodie and I appreciate good food and good taste on top of that. There’s no valet parking offered by the restaurant literally you have to park with some other restaurant will charge you a little over the actualvisiting that restaurant so I would not really call this really a high-end restaurant but paying the price for high-end anyways, we really enjoyed the ambience. I wish we just ordered a few drinks and that would be a great experience.
Chicken was chewey and tough, bowl did not come with tortillas. Server only gave the option to pay via payment platform which charged an extra 4% in fees, in addition to +$0.99/person for convenience Absolutely mediocre
We stopped by this restaurant just to have a drink at the bar, and what we witnessed was extremely unsanitary and disturbing. One of the employees who we were later told was actually a manager filled his personal stainless-steel water bottle using the 8-button soda gun behind the bar. He literally stuck the soda gun inside his own bottle where he places his mouth. This was absolutely disgusting, especially since we had just been served water from that same gun in a glass. We immediately asked a waitress who he was and were told he was a manager. We then asked to speak with another manager, and a woman named Dulce came over. We explained the situation to her. She apologized and offered us bottled water, but we made it clear we were not looking for anything free we simply wanted to bring attention to a serious sanitation issue. You would think they would at least disinfect the nozzle after something like that, but nothing was done. She just went back to her duties as if it were no big deal. We have a photo showing the manager who filled his personal bottle at the soda gun. After seeing no action taken, we asked for the check and decided to leave. This was very unprofessional and unsanitary. We will definitely not be back.
One of My Favorite Spots in River North until Tonight, Saturday February 14th. I Order from this place at least once a week and come in and eat at the Bar frequently.Tonight Me and My Woman decided to Order Take-Out from Barrio since Las Tablas was all booked up, next best steak to Me is a Barrio Carne Asada Meal, which I order every time I eat from this place, Uber Eats or like I said, inside at the bar. NEVER have I ever been treated this way. I walk in at 7:59 which My order said it was likely done via Uber Eats, I knew it wasn't ready because I order Uber Eats from here often and My first time picking it up, it wasn't ready on time, so I was prepared to wait a few minutes, NO BIG DEAL AT ALL. So I walk in at 7:59 and tell the lady at the front desk (hosts) who was wearing a pink blouse or shirt, that I'm here to pick up My food, she gives me a stank look and asks for My name, I tell her "Nikko Rogers" She responds, "it will be ready in just a couple more minutes" Cool, but I know its going to be longer because I order from here often. I leave out and go sit in My double Parked car on Clark St where My woman was waiting for Me, its 8:03, I stay in the car til about 8:17 and walk back into Barrio, about 4 workers at the front desk now. No one asks Me anything, everyone is staring at me weirdly and looking away LOL. I wasn't updated on My wait time at all or even talked to. Instead, I was just given quick stares and look aways LOL because I have visible Tattoos I guess, and now I'm being stereotyped, ok cool. Mind you, I have visible tattoos, I'm light skin and I'm a Japanese and Black, bald guy. NO ONE is going to forget My face or look like me if I don't have a twin which I don't. I'm a unforgettable person from first encounter, but I'm standing there thinking "I just came in and talked to her so she should be asking about or giving me my food soon" its now 8:23 and I'm still just standing at the front door to the side out the way from the door which HELLA people are coming in but nobody for take out orders. I'm watching the NCAA game now LOL because its taking forever but nobody is updating Me on My order or even checking to see if its ready, they all just act as if I'm just standing there collecting coats or jackets LOL no lie or I'm a homeless person trying to stay warm. Pissing Me off so I see the white guy (hosts or manager, I guess) blue button up, tight work pants, he goes to the back and I'm like "about time someone goes to get my food" he then stops and has 2 conversations while holding a bag of food (My food) 1ST convo with a co-worker who had on a burgundy button up near the kitchen then he walks towards Me but stops at another table of people who are already seated and ask them if they need anything, but instead of giving Me the bag of food, he sits it down and continues to talk to the seated people. I'M OVER PISSED NOW AT THIS POINT because its 8:27 and they are acting like I'm just there for no reason, so I ask the lady (hosts) wearing the pink blouse who I talked to from the beginning at 7:59, is that My food that this guy is keeping hostage and and not handing me as if I didn't just pay $90 for My meal. She then asks Me "what's your name?" and looks at Me like she never seen Me before LOL (cut it out), like I didn't just walk in the first time at 7:59 and say "I'm here top pick up My personal Order I placed for pick up" the entire time I was standing there not one uber eats driver came in so its not like its hella take out orders being placed, it was mine and one more order actually, so 2 take out orders and nobody was trying to asks if I needed help or "He's been standing here for a long time, Let me check on your order" I probably won't ever spend My Money here again and it's sad because I've been eating here for about 3 years and never had a problem sitting at the bar, EVER! I tip very well, ask any bartenders, when I did drink liquor and only sit at the Bar. NEVER had any issues with any of them, but the front desk, different story. I'AM NOT A THUG!
