Visiting the Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Chicago was a unique experience. It offered a great selection of Guinness goodies that you wouldn’t typically find up north in Canada, along with a few Guinness beers I hadn’t seen before. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which added to the overall atmosphere. The on-site bakery and café looked really good too, making it more than just a brewery visit. Definitely a fun stop for any Guinness fan!
A relatively new brewery in the heart of West Loop Chicago. I loved the setting, especially the outdoor area. They offer a wide variety of brewed bears from light to dark and IPAs! They also offer some of the delicious snacks like cheese curds and locally sourced pickles. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, and their gift shop and experience. I’m definitely coming back! Highly recommended for friends gathering!
I’ve been into Open Gate multiple times and it’s always a lovely experience. You’re greeted by a well organized retail area with friendly staff. I notice new merch every time I’m in. The Chicago themed Guinness items are always a hit with myself and my friends/family from out of town. The bar area is beautiful, the food is always delicious, great beer selection (I also really like their beer cocktails), and the patio is dog friendly which is a win for me. Highly recommended stopping in for a bite and beer.
What an awesome experience. I haven’t been to Ireland yet but other than a Euro trip this is a must for any Guinness Lover like myself and a great place to stop for a pint of the good stuff. The food was excellent as well, we got the curry and the wings, top tier. Service staff was attentive and quick, the pours of Guinness were expectedly great and the atmosphere was vibrant. First time here and the experience was great. It is an amazing ambient. Several choices are offered for beer as well as food. We had the cheese curds as well as the Brussel sprouts which were flavorful and well cooked. I will definitely come back. 1 more brewery off my check list ✔️
I had the pleasure of dining at the Gunnison Open Gate Brewery in downtown Chicago yesterday to celebrate my wedding anniversary with my husband. We were in the mood for something casual but unique, and this spot delivered just that. Despite the valet being unavailable, we were lucky to find parking right in front of the restaurant, which was a great start to the evening. We had reservations, and upon arrival, we were seated promptly. Our server Romario greeted us immediately with water and menus. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us excellent recommendations, especially with the Oktoberfest specials they had going on. For appetizers, we started with the buffalo wings, which were crispy on the outside and perfectly tender on the inside, with just the right amount of spice. For dinner, I ordered the Braised Short Rib, which was slow-cooked to perfection in Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, making it incredibly tender. The short rib was served over creamy polenta and topped with a refreshing watermelon radish relish that added a bright, crunchy contrast to the richness of the meat. My husband opted for the Caribbean Shrimp Fried Rice, which was flavorful and well-balanced. The grilled shrimp had a nice smoky char, while the fried rice was infused with ginger and garlic, with colorful red and green bell peppers for a slight crunch. The soy sauce and hot sauce added depth and heat, making each bite more satisfying than the last. For drinks, I had the Kinzie Street Pale Ale with “Pour Souls Green Jacket” – a refreshing mix of mint, cucumber, and lime that was the perfect light and crisp complement to my meal. I also tried the Vander Mill Hard Apple Cider, which was gluten-free and had a nice balance of sweet and tart flavors. My husband enjoyed a Michelada made with Extra Stout and Big Mich Tamarindo, which had a rich, tangy, and slightly spicy flavor. He also tried the Hefeweizen, a classic German wheat ale with subtle clove and banana notes and a beautiful hazy appearance – perfect for the Oktoberfest season. To finish off the night, we shared a Brownie Sundae with vanilla ice cream for dessert. The brownie was warm and gooey, topped with cold, creamy vanilla ice cream, creating a wonderful contrast in both texture and temperature. It was a sweet, indulgent way to end the meal. Overall, everything was fantastic. The food was flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, the service was excellent, and the ambiance was perfect for a laid-back yet special evening. We would definitely recommend Gunnison Open Gate Brewery to anyone looking for a great dining experience, and we’ll certainly be back!
Great place and spacious. We were a group of seven. We all had different beers to drink and two of us had a mixed drink that had grapefruit in it. Every employee is professional. Music was great. Bathrooms are beautiful and spotlessly clean. Very large gift shop if you are looking for that. It was my birthday and they gave me some Guiness ice cream (yes) and a Guiness beer with the foam on top had Make a Wish spelled on top. We ordered appetizers. We will return. I have attached some photos.
Had a fantastic time at the new Guinness brewery!! The service was top notch, we loved Alexandra, she made the experience so fun! Even though it was busy, she took the time to explain our menu options and was really engaging! I actually LOVED the Guinness stew, my girlfriend really liked the udon dish! And of course, the drinks were top notch! Coming back really soon!
What an awesome brewery / restaurant to open in West Loop! My party of 4 visited on a Saturday evening (Dec 23) and were immediately impressed with the building and ambiance - very cool, clean, open, and modern while still being cozy. Being a weekend we had a good 15 minute wait, which was entertaining in the really cool gift shop area which includes an interactive "which brew fits you" test. There's a bakery, a large private room, and nice views. Street parking if you're lucky! Though I've read there is a valet for $20 according to their website. Apparently there's a brunch also - which I would totally come back for - but dinner was pretty great itself. Our party enjoyed the Curry, Burger, and Grilled Brat that I can remember - solid food! - with of course, several seasonal beers. A bit pricey, but totally worth it for the fun factor - a great place to visit and bring out of town visitors and if you love Guinness!
Fantastic Atmosphere, Great Brews, and Outstanding Service!!! I recently visited the new Guinness brewery in Chicago, and I must say, it's just what the city needed! The vibe, atmosphere, and overall environment were exceptional. Even without a reservation on a weekday, we were fortunate enough to snag a table relatively quickly, but I'd highly recommend larger groups make reservations in advance. The variety of beers brewed on-site, along with selections from the original Dublin location, made for a delightful tasting experience. The food menu, while not extensive, offered some delicious appetizers that we thoroughly enjoyed. What truly made our visit exceptional was our server, Ameer. Despite grilled cheese not being on the menu, he took the extra step to ensure our son got his favorite dish by arranging it directly from the kitchen. Kudos to the staff for their attentiveness and accommodating nature. The brewery also boasts fantastic merchandise, but unfortunately, the downside was the lack of parking options. Finding street parking was quite challenging, so it's something to keep in mind before planning a visit. Overall, the new Guinness brewery in Chicago is a must-visit for its fantastic ambiance, array of brews, great service, and delicious bites. Just be prepared for parking hurdles!
Recommend: the beer, service and food were great. The brewery itself was packed on rainy Saturday afternoon. The beef stew was good, the lamb was great. They have what looks like a coffee shop inside, making simple espresso drinks. Overall definitely will stop here again with fam or friends.
🚲after riding bikes all over Chicago this was a great ending. Bike racks on railroad side. Make a reservation in the Tap room ahead of time because this is such a popular place and it get crowded. The beers were delicious and curated. Oh they have Guinness and traditional Irish brew but also fun flavors pineapple, old fashioned, fruity and all kinds of changing flavors. (We visted in Summer) They give tastings too so try before you buy!The glassware pays homage to Chicago and the Trains fly by right out the wall of windows! This creates a real Chicago feeling. We ordered the cheese curds and they were amazing. Full Menu and food looked great. A must visit! Slainte! Thank you Guinness for making another home in the Windy City.
Loved this new place! Big open space in the main area made it feel really cool. Obviously drinks were great, and had a lovely beer flight which was a really good way to try the less common brews. The server was excellent and even comped a drink for a birthday! 🎉
Excellent food and service to go with an excellent beer selection. The Far Post Nitro Pub Ale was a welcome surprise. Not the most Irish of experiences in Chicago but it tracks with the Guinness store in Dublin so can't complain.
Ready for a semi-weird review? My friend and I dropped by and were excited about the live music on a weekday - what a treat! We got a round of discount drinks for happy hour, super yummy. We also got some food, which was also really yummy and the portions were generous. Unfortunately, I found a hair in my burger, about halfway through the burger. Honestly, these things happen, mistakes happen. But! Our server handled the issue like a pro, using humor and sincerity to make it right (in the end, he went above and beyond!)! I wish more businesses handled hairy situations (pun intended) the way it was handled at Guinness - I’m excited to go back and try more drinks and more food!
First time at Guinness and had to say, Vlad our bartender, made the experience a time to remember. Drinks during happy hour are awesome and the ambience is good for both date nights and a night out with the boys. 5/5
Food and locally brewed beers are amazing! And of course the Guinness is on point - freshest pints we’ve had outside of Ireland. Ruben egg rolls are one of our go-to apps anywhere that has them on the menu. The ones here are the best we’ve ever had! Fish & Chips and Bangers & Mash are also delicious.
Terrific brunch! Great atmosphere. Food was so good. And our server Kawesome was the best! We had a birthday celebration and they made it very special. ❤️❤️❤️
I got to check out the Guinness Open Gate Brewery Chicago while visiting town. The Harp set up on top of the bar is really cool, lots of merch too. Guinness pours were good and I absolutely loved their micheladas. I didn’t have any food. I had dessert, their crème brûlée was really good. Service is good, bartenders are friendly and I like the lively Irish atmosphere. My only con about Guinness brewery is the parking, it can be a little challenging to park.
We stopped by here right when they opened and although I don't drink, I was really impressed! It was decorated so nicely for Pride Month and they had a nice menu of some bar bites and also a few n/a options. It's a great vibe, service was solid! They have a little store you can grab some souvenirs. Definitely worth a stop, even if you're not a Guinness drinker.
Elegant place to hang out at. I love the large overhanging harp in the middle of the bar. Nice spacious room with plenty of tables. We visited on a Friday evening and it was packed so we had to wait about half hour for a table. Service was good and food is decent. The cheese curds and truffle fries are worth nibbling on while having a beer. Tried a few different stouts and beers that were brewed at this location. The Tmave Pivo was the best beer I tried.
What a great restaurant/brewery. Beer was of course good, but the food was excellent and worth the effort to get here, which was easy on public transit.
The fish and chips was excellent!! Lightly battered. Not too heavy. The fries were also very good. Have the Chefs Shifty beer. A very good hazy IPA We went on a Saturday... Contrary to previous posts... Parking was a difficult find.
Awesome place for beer and food. They have their own beers on tap and some from abroad. Definitely make a reservation as it gets really busy. The food was very good. Love the dips with the pretzel. Service was really good at the bar, the table was so so. The merch is expensive but worth it. If you see something, buy it as stuff sells out often. The building is a really well done reclaim. Bathrooms are very nice and kept clean. Parking is typically for the area, they do offer $20 service to park for you.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the new Guinness brewery in Chicago, and I must say, it was an incredible experience from start to finish! The space itself is beautifully designed, blending modern elegance with the rich history of the Guinness brand. What truly stood out, however, was the warm and friendly welcome I received from Dillon, the bartender. From the moment I arrived, Dillon's enthusiasm and knowledge about the brewery's offerings made me feel right at home. He was not only attentive but also gave fantastic recommendations, ensuring I got to try a unique flight of beers that perfectly suited my palate. The ambiance was lively, yet comfortable, and the beer—unsurprisingly—was outstanding. Whether you're a Guinness aficionado or just curious to explore, this place is a must-visit. Kudos to Dylan and the entire team for creating such a memorable experience. I can't wait to come back!
I’ve been a here few times by now. I don’t frequent the West Loop because of its usual clientele and the pricing… but I never regret a visit to Guinness. The best part is that the service is always top notch. The two standouts are Jack and Raquel—truly delightful individuals who will keep us coming back. AND! The beer is pretty solid, too.
I visited from California, so to get here, I hopped a bus from downtown and walked a couple blocks. Easy location to get to. This place is so cool! Whoever designed this location did an incredible job because the layout makes it easy to see everything it has to offer. You'll walk into the merch area, bakery, then the restaurant/bar. The staff is really friendly and knowledgeable. If you have a question, they'll be more than happy to answer and if they can't, they'll find someone who can answer you. I had a few tasters and pints of a good handful of beers and non were a disappointment. I think there's something for everyone. I got a shrimp po boy which the shrimp was ridiculously salty, but if you ate it with the bread and toppings, it really mellowed out to make it a fantastic sandwich. Something kind of cool while I was there was the beer menu changed mid-meal. This location is consistently working on something new, so that was a fun experience. If you like the classic Guinness, come on it to at least check the place out!
Nice spot with authentic pours and some great local brews. The place itself is really busy ( weekend). Food is ok, standard pub fare. Service is great ( Jeremy helped with the stout selection ). Worth a visit if you crave a nice stout this side of the pond.
A must-do for any Guinness lover! We arrived early and I'd recommend doing so as it gets packed later on. The benedict eggs were amazing, and we liked the fact that you can enjoy a traditional pint of Guinness or go for one of their more adventurous Guinness-based cocktails. The atmosphere was alright, noisy and crowded- but it was to expect. Their staff had their hands full so they were very efficient but not very friendly.
I had a real good time here. The food options were great! The drink options were amazing and the bathroom was very clean! They even have a nice cafe! I got there around 530pm and it wasn't too busy. It started getting busy around 630-7. They have valet, which is charged, by the hour. The oysters I had tasted real fresh. The food can be ordered using a QR code and it can be paid on the website too. Very convenient. Would come back!
always do a quick stop-in when in Chicago as we enjoy the environment and the beer. The non alcoholic Guinness is actually impressive. Other unique options on draft too.
Beers brewed on-site were awesome! That is the best reason to go. Ordered soup and salad, bread and mains-it all came out at once. Didn’t occur to us that we would have to ask to have those coursed out. Service was pretty decent but hurried.
Three of us celebrated a birthday here on 2/10/24 at 1:30 PM. Parking is a challenge unless you are willing to spend $20 to valet. After some driving around we got lucky. This may only be a temporary issue as there is a large unopened parking lot next to the building. Reservations: They do not take them, and we were told it was a 45-60 minute wait but seconds later a table opened up so no wait at all! Building: The place is beautiful, with tall ceilings, open concept but somehow not loud, easy to chat with a casual chill vibe. Drinks: Of course, yummy Guiness but also local sodas like Filbert’s Menu: we were surprised to find out it was a brunch menu at 1:30 PM on a Saturday, we expected the lunch menu on their website. We got 2 ordered of the Brown Bread, Beef Stew, French Toast and a 1910 burger. All was fine- the Beef Stew and the fries were the best of the options tried and one order of bread was enough for 3 people. Dessert: Out waiter said nothing about dessert and was not sure it was offered during brunch. Since it was a birthday celebration was asked him to check and yes dessert was offered. They were out of a few options, and we landed on 2 ordered of the Chocolate Stout Cake. YUM!! SO Freakin’ good! However, one slice is fine for 3 people. Gift Shop: Really nice gift shop with several Chicago inspired items. Note: It is 4 star and not 5 as my meal was wrong- twice. There may be some growing pains
Large open-air (seasonal) bar with a good selection of beer - my expectations were that they just served Guinness. The bar area is large and there are plenty of tables and booths. The menu is limited, we only had pretzels, and they were good. Large souvenir area for shirts and the like. They also have beer to go in the coolers.
I want to start by saying that I love Guinness—it’s my favorite beer of all time. I did enjoy visiting the Guinness Factory, though it was a bit different than I expected. The space itself is very nice: super clean, well organized, and filled with great Guinness memorabilia. And they definitely know how to pour a Guinness the right way. That said, I was a little underwhelmed overall. The food menu felt somewhat limited, and I would have loved to see Guinness incorporated more creatively—using the beer for sauces or other dishes that really highlight the brand. While the food was good, nothing truly stood out or wowed us. I also wish the atmosphere leaned more into an authentic Irish pub feel. A bit more warmth and traditional Irish character would have made the experience feel more immersive. Overall, it’s still a cool place and worth visiting at least once, especially if you’re a Guinness fan—but it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. If you want it more casual, shorter, or more enthusiastic, just say the word.
Cool place. Pretty big patio if you want to sit outside. Tons of parking if you’re driving there. We had a corn maze cream ale made from IL grown corn. It was cold crisp and refreshing for a hot summer day. Also had a pineapple coconut stout that was pretty unique. Food was solid. Irish bread and butter are a must. Big bowl of thin fries were nice and hot and salty. Brussels sprouts had a subtle kick. Beef stew was good. Not a whole lot of beef in it. Big space if you have a big group it would be a good place to check out.
The food was good, just felt like the menu was quite small and limited. Also Guinness stout is the only beer brewed by Guinness they have on hand. (They have guest taps) I was hoping it would be more like the one in Dublin that has Guinness brewed lagers, IPAs etc. Beautiful interior and design and top quality service.
I see this from the metra every work day and finally tried it out. I had to get a Guinness and then tried their "rooted in cover" Landbeir. Very good. Expect to pay $8/9 per beer. Truffle fries were good too and big enough to split with someone. Beautiful tap room.
Honestly really great food here! The burgers are great and the bangers and mash were delicious. Sticky toffee pudding was pretty decent and the spice bag was authentic with a great gochujang sauce. Good selection of beers of course and the trivia on Mondays at 7 is so fun! Tons of seating and a really cool atmosphere. Good for big groups as well.
If you’re not into beer, I wouldn’t really recommend coming here, this place definitely caters to beer lovers. The food is hit or miss. The Caesar salad with chicken is amazing, easily one of my favorite salads in the city. On the other hand, I’d skip the Dublin spice bag. The flavors were a strange combo and didn’t really enjoy them.
Fish and chips was heavy. Burger was good. Oysters were ok at best. Cardinal sin was that my Guinness wasn’t all that creamy (for $9 nonetheless). If they fix their Guinness I’ll be back. Otherwise, plenty of Irish pubs do it right.
Good food, awful service. We asked our waiter for a few minutes to decide our orders after getting drinks. We didn't see him for at least 20 minutes after. When he finally came by, he said it was the end of his shift and we had another server. We put in our orders, and got our food, but she never came. After almost an hour, nobody ever came by to pick up our plates, order more drinks, or refill our water. We were ready to order more drinks, but decided to leave and actually had to ask the host to get our check. Our waitress finally came and seemed like she was surprised she was assigned to our table. When she gave us the bill, it was auto selected for a 25% tip. We laughed. I may try again at some point but not anytime soon!
I really have mixed feelings on this review. There were parts of the brewery that were really cool, than others where I was disappointed. The decor was beautiful. The huge harp that hangs over the bar looks great. They only serve beer and can pop. The Guinness that is brewed in Ireland not in Chicago is $9.00 a pint. I think the prices are over priced. For starters we got the cheese curds and the Guinness brown bread. They both were very good. The butter that co.es with the bread was fantastic! I got a bacon cheeseburger and french fries. It was good. My husband got the beef stew. He said it was kinda dry. They have a bakery. They sell the brown bread(soda like bread) along with cookies and coffee. They have some really nice Norte Dame and Guinness sweatshirts, but they're so over priced. I think this is a nice place but the cost is not in our budget. As a Chicago local I am glad we went , but sadly I don't see this being a place we would visit regularly due to the prices. Also for parties 5 or more a 20% gratuity is automatically applied. The staff was helpful and friendly. I feel like they're still figuring things out like their menu and beer selection. I would say definitely visit just be mindful of the prices.
Tried the Michelada and it was quite interesting. Didn’t much care for it but if you’re adventurous then you might want to give it a go. They do have very good bangers here, had some in the Irish breakfast dish but the bacon that came with it was severely overcooked. The brussel apple salad was also quite good and do recommend it. The French toast is a miss, it barely had any flavor. Do yourselves a favor and skip it.
We dined in yesterday and thought the place was beautiful. The host, manager, and the server for the table next to us were so kind . Our server was absent, took his time, and when he came around he did not explain anything about the drinks or the food menu. This was more noticeable to us when the table next to us had a server that explained the holiday flight and talked out the food. We both said we wish we had him as a server. We had to wait around to order our food then wait a while to check out and leave. Didn’t love it enough to go back.
The food is just okay on a Thursday evening. Went in a party of three and had the Reuben Egg rolls and the pear pressure cocktails. The Reuben Egg rolls were served on a bed of withered rocket and the cocktails very watered down. The first time we had the egg rolls, there were six of them. This time there were diagonally sliced three egg rolls placed somewhat neatly, as if to hide the lack of supply. Understandable after rush hour if Guinness doesn’t attract high traffic being nestled in the back of Fulton market. However, for the price, it’s subpar quality. Our server Jack was very respectful and courteous despite serving us a new bed of also withered rocket. A discount would have been appreciated.
I realize this seems like a very harsh review, but I can't imagine ever returning here. Tried four different beers that we ordered at the table (no classic Guinness pours), and did not enjoy any of them. That is obviously subjective, your mileage may vary with the drinks and food. What was far more off putting is that the place just seems like a marketing ploy for Guinness. Endless T-shirts and collectibles, it's like a theme park - and I mean that in the worst way possible. Completely antiseptic and lacking any personality whatsoever. The staff was friendly, no issues with service although they said we had to be out in two hours when we arrived and they were not even remotely close to capacity. If that is the policy have fun trying to watch a game on the TVs mounted towards the ceiling.
The beer was so good and the atmosphere was amazing, but there were major downfalls. The bartender was very busy running back and forth, so we waited until he was not as busy to order food. It was 9:45ish. As soon as he was available to take our order he said the kitchen was closed. A couple next to us came in after us, ordered food, and got it while we never got the chance to order. Very very very unacceptable. They lost our business and we went elsewhere. This is not okay and we were treated poorly. We won’t be coming back anytime soon. Very sad because the beer was great!
Food was really good for what we got and the unique beers were amazing. Our server took 8 minutes after seating to greet us when there were two other tables in the space and a total of 2-3 servers, floor manager and a bartender. Didn’t describe a single beer (not 100% he could considering I did ask and he gave me zero notes, just that’s it’s popular and easy to drink) didn’t actually ask how anything was, didn’t run the food (a different server did that) and then chased me down when I left cash on the table because he never said it was a cash free establishment. We also spent 20 minutes in at our table before leaving when at any time he could check his sale but he didn’t. Genuinely a cool spot but horrific service standards. Also we came over an hour after opening so it’s not like he didn’t have time to serve us due to opening duties. He did have time to check his phone though. Genuinely the service is what ruined the experience that would otherwise be like a 4-5 star rating.
I loved Guinness Brewery since it open and have been a loyal customer. Recently they changed their whole food menu and took off / changed so many staple items, including the mac and cheese, French onion soup, and cheese curds. This is super disappointing considering no one wants a chicken fried cheese curd or scampi with their beer. I don’t know if I will return as often which is super disappointing.
