New fave sushi spot. Amazing food, strong drinks, and the interior is gorgeous. They also validate parking from the garage across the street— up to 90 min. Great place and can’t wait to come back
I rarely write reviews, much less glowing reviews, but this place glows. Fresh, delicious food, carefully prepared and thoughtfully served. A congenial atmosphere and clean, visually intriguing decor. This is the fourth time I’ve been here, and their consistency is refreshing and notable. Bien fait!
The vegan maki rolls here are a must-try! My favorite is the crunch cabbage. I love the happy hour at this place. Every time I come here the service is always nice. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant too. It can get busy on the weekday evenings, though. I would recommend doing a reservation ahead of time! This has become one of my favorite sushi spots.
If you’re allergic to fish, this is the spot to go for your sushi craving! They have a huge menu of creative vegetarian sushi rolls that are a step up from an avocado roll. They have an incredible happy hour nearly every weekday and Sundays that makes their delicious cocktails and rolls really cost effective. Our waitress was adorable and funny and gave us the best tip: if you order the shishito peppers, the amazing sauce they come in is perfect for dipping your sushi in once you’ve finished your peppers. I tried it and loved it!
The food comes out quick. The itchy seabass is my favorite. The samurai sake drink is great if you don't like sweet drinks. I've been there multiple times and the food has been great every time.
I don’t usually write reviews but I had to after my experience tonight. I have worked in the restaurant industry for over 8 years and tend to be a bit critical when I go out. Leah was seriously one of the best servers I have EVER had. She was friendly, exceptionally helpful, and not too overbearing. Sushi is my favorite food but I was looking to expand past my usuals tonight and her suggestions and table manner were top notch. We tried a multitude of new drinks and dishes and LOVED everything that hit our table. 10/10 recommend this restaurant, and if you can, ask for Leah!
Tons of traditional and unique rolls and a happy hour every day that starts at 3p, sake is $8 and beers are only $4.50. We had a great experience coming here for the first time, no idea that they would have a happy hour on a Saturday but we took advantage. The crab Rangoon was great, we also did the Lion King (great!) And the Spicy Gringo, would recommend them both. We also got a spicy tuna and were stuffed when we left. Will come back soon.
Excellent service from Jason. I came here for the vegan sushi, which was good and I was grateful for so many vegan options. But I am writing a review because my server Jason was so nice and enjoyable and recommended some very good vegan rolls: shiitake to me and the cowgirl. Also I was worried about parking in this area, but the hostess informed me that they validate for 90 minutes for the parking garage across the street. After dinner I walked to the Oz park nearby it was a really nice evening walk felt very safe and looked at some beautiful houses. Thank you Jason!!
I loved this sushi restaurant! It’s in such a great location to walk around on a sunny day and the restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere. We got sushi and sake to share and both were great! I wasn’t a fan of the eggplant sushi but we got tataki maki too and that was fantastic. I would definitely recommend that roll. The service was fast and friendly and overall a really great experience!
You GUYS. This place is fantastic!! It's not the cheapest place in town but everything was so good, we really didn't care. We ordered edamame (warm, delicious, soft and salty), and a bunch of other stuff I let my 12 year old companion choose and, when you're with a 12 year old who prefers ordering california rolls, you eat california rolls. So we ordered the Cali Rolls, Hotel Cali Rolls, and Kappa. Oh, and of course, my usual Diet Coke haha. That said, I was pleasantly surprised to see Blue Sushi Sake uses real crab and not the typical immitation stuff the other places serve. Our server was attentive, fast, and friendly - all wins for us! I think we spent around $60 after tip. A little pricey? Yes. But the food was outstanding and the atmosphere was super cool. We loved it and we'll definitely be back!
A new Favorite. Went out to celebrate and as soon as you walk in the mood is set with the upbeat music and ambience. Service was great and for anyone new to sushi or sashimi the server graciously explains the menu. The drinks were wonderful and the plates were great. We ordered a small plate, dipping crab, which is a whole small crab fried in tempura and served with a flavored soy sauce. For anyone who hasn't had it before its a fun first try. Two Medium plates, the chicken lettuce wrap and the sizzling steak. The steak was so tender absolutely loved it and the lettuce wraps were amazing. We also got 3 rolls, the lion king. A spicy roll with a somewhat savory sauce on top. Two standard rolls. Sake(salmon) and Avocado roll. Though we didn't try them the veg rolls all sounded amazing.
Blue Sushi Sake Grill is fantastic! The sushi is fresh, creative, and delicious, and the atmosphere is fun and welcoming. The Crunchy L.A. roll was perfectly crispy and flavorful, the Hot Popper had great heat and texture, and the Lion King roll was bold and satisfying. Don’t miss their Mango Crab Rangoon — sweet, creamy, and addictive. The service was friendly and fast, and the atmosphere were amazing. Definitely one of the best sushi spots in Chicago!
I didn’t think I liked sushi until I ate here. Went with family on a Sunday which is all day happy hour. Discounted drinks and food. Sangria is fantastic. Fresh food, good service , nice decor. Vegan friendly for our daughter. Highly recommend.
The almost All-Day happy hour menu is an incredible deal. The fish quality was solid and both rolls (The Lion King) & (The Roja) were great. The Sencha was also solid and enough for 2 people to share. Our Server Chris (or Kris) was great and her trainee Danielle was nice as well. 10/10 would recommend
Great food and tons of vegan options. The happy hour deals are great! Service was friendly and attentive. Try the vegan cowgirl roll. Casual, slightly upscale atmosphere.

Tried the veggie rolls and Hydration Coco at Blue Sushi Bar — super fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The drink was light and refreshing, a perfect match. Great vibe and definitely recommend!
This was some of the best sushi I have had. Our server was amazing, made great recommendations and suggestions on the menu, was very informative.
We decided to eat here during a visit to Chicago. It was a last-minute change of restaurant from what we had planned. Everyone in our party of five agreed that it was a good choice and that we were happy we switched. The cocktails were amazing and the sushi was all fabulous. It was cold and it was fresh
This place has amazing food, lovely atmosphere and a great staff. Their sashimi is excellent cuts and their vegan sushi is truly the best in the city. Their desserts are very unique to them as well, highly recommend for a great evening.
You can’t get much better than this happy hour deal. Good clean vibes, sushi was good for the price (again the happy hour is great and it’s pretty much all day).
i’m not the biggest fan of rolls, but blue sushi sake grill had fantastic rolls - they didn’t all taste the same, and the flavors were fun and interesting. loved that they do all-day happy hour on sundays. had a reservation for 4 for 6:30pm on a sunday and it was quite busy! we tried: • drinks: white peach daiquiri • apps: crispy brussels sprouts • sashimi: truffle salmon, sake toro • nigiri: itchy salmon • basic maki: sake • specialty maki: green eggs & hama, the beach, tataki maki standout dishes were the crispy brussels sprouts, sake toro sashimi, and green eggs & hama roll. the crispy brussels sprouts tasted very interesting and delicious - nutty and lemony flavors. the sake toro sashimi was so fresh, and it basically melts in your mouth. the green eggs & hama roll had many flavors that balanced each other well. i loved the yellowtail and salmon in it. overall a very pleasant dining experience, and would love to come back. my friends were already discussing plans of coming back halfway through our meal
It is one of my favourite sushi spots in Chicago and Lincoln Park in particular. The atmosphere is great, and the service is decent. The place is clean and well maintained. The servers are professional and nice. I really enjoy their ceviche, and their rolls and nigiri. My favourite roles are the lion King and the rainbow. If you’re looking for a good sushi bite with friends or family, I recommend this place.
Blue sushi sake grill is an exception dining spot not only for their freshly prepared food but for the excellent location. I would definitely recommend sitting outside as it’s located next to a beautiful park area. On top of the sushi I would definitely recommend getting a salad as it’s fresh and comes with homemade dressing. Will definitely be back.
Great restaurant for friends and family. My daughter and son bring me there for Happy Hour. So many choose for Japanese cuisine. Vegetarian and vegan as well. So delicious. We couldn’t take pictures for all that we ate. Service is great. Atmosphere is amazing. Parking garage validated by restaurant. Highly recommend.
I had the pleasure of being served by Orlando and I can honestly say he made our dining experience unforgettable. From the moment we sat down, he was warm, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. He made great recommendations, ensured our drinks were always full, and checked in just the right amount—never intrusive, but always available. His positive attitude and genuine enthusiasm for her job truly stood out. He went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy with our meal. If you’re dining at Blue Sushi Sake and GrillI highly recommend asking for Orlando he is the best! Thank you, Orlando, for making our visit so enjoyable. We’ll definitely be back!
My friend and I had a wonderful time. We ordered the hot sake, a couple of cocktails, a few maki rolls and brussel sprouts. Everything was outstanding. The cowgirl maki was extremely delicious and we got another order of it even though we were so full. Tons of vegan and vegetarian choices. The wait staff was professional and yet personable. Great atmosphere and music.

Trendy sushi spot with variations on the normal fare. Not excessively altered. Service was very good. Great decor. Nice spot for couples or groups. Casual dress is fine.
The food comes out quick. The itchy seabass is my favorite. The samurai sake drink is great if you don't like sweet drinks. I've been there multiple times and the food has been great every time.
We came to Blue Sushi during their Happy Hour; 2pm-6pm. I suggest visiting during Happy Hour, so you can taste a variety of things at a fraction of the regular menu price. I was interested in their vegan items, being that I eat plant-based. They have a very extensive and impressive list of vegan options on the menu. The kombu miso soup is vegan and was very delicious. I had the Spicy Kaluna Crunch Roll which was good, just good, but nothing exciting or that I’d order again. The star of the show was my cocktail; the White Peach Daiquiri. It was just the right amount of mango rum, and the mix of flavors were on point. Normally, I don’t like boba, but the boba in this drink isn’t that tapioca chewy boba balls, they were like little flavor bubbles, they were delicious and complimentary. I highly recommend this cocktail! My brother enjoyed his food; especially, The Lion King. He didn’t care for his cocktail, the China Doll, he said it was lacking alcohol. Our waiter, Lane, was lovely and attentive, and gave a great recommendation to my brother. Overall, I would return to try their extensive vegan menu and to get another White Peach Daiquiri.
The vibe was incredible the place is decorated really nicely. The music was too loud which made it hard to have a conversation. The sushi was ok but nothing better than I've had at other sushi places. In fact The spicy tuna on the crispy rice was a disappointment since there was only a small dollop of the tuna. So the rice to tuna ratio was definitely in the rice's favor. They do have a fantastic selection of vegan sushi which made my sister very happy. I only liked one of them I wish I remembered the name but the rest were kind of meh. The server wasn't very friendly. In addition to her icy demeanor, we asked for brown rice and didn't get it. Since all the rolls came at the same time we didn't say anything but it made the meal less enjoyable. I would also recommend they have black rice which a lot of the higher and sushi places use and completely changes the taste for the better!
The place was quite good from an aesthetic standpoint but didn’t live up to the taste of being a sushi place. I went there in the happy hours and the menu for it was pretty worthy of the price we paid. My favourite one was tidal wave maki. It’s gonna be a must try🤌. Other than that, edmame was kinda okayish. Can skip that. But miso soup was flavourful !! Overall a good experience for the price i paid. ❤️.
I like the decoration in the restaurant with the japanese items and painting. Menu looks good and varieties of sushi selection- rolls, nigiri, sashimi, special dishes etc. Cocktails selection is also fancy and delicious. Our server and another staff are great. it’s another good choice for sushi place to try.
We celebrated my fiance 's birthday here with a few friends and the food and service were great. We ordered most of the Maki from the vegan section and enjoyed all of them. They also serve hot sake and their drinks menu is quite extensive. I highly recommended ordering the cowgirl and the Unani Delight. The grilled edamame and the Brocolli appetizers were excellent as well. Highly recommended this restaurant to vegans and vegetarians for trying out sushi.
The service and atmosphere were fantastic, but I wasn’t very impressed with the sushi. Miso soup was great. I ordered 3 different rolls from the happy hour menu and none of them were very good. Would be open to giving it another try and picking different rolls.
The fish here was excellent. We really liked their signature rolls. 2 pieces of nigiri for like $12 felt a little bit rich and I wish they weren’t so overpriced. Their signature rolls did feel fair however. The drinks we had were really good and the service was excellent. I’d come here again but just stick to signature rolls only next time as I think that’s probably the best value.

I stumbled upon Blue Sushi while wandering, and lo and behold, they've got quite the vegan menu. And by vegan menu, it's not just cucumber and avocado rolls, or "boring as shit rolls," as they are also known. They thought this one through with some pretty intriguing plant-based experiments, and I think it's fun. Non-traditional, absolutely, but that's cool sometimes. Let me spell it out with some examples: Vegan Hot Popper: vegan smoked salmon, vegan cream cheese, vegan jalapeño tempura, soy paper, sriracha Cowgirl: pickle vegan tempura, sriracha-fried onion rings, bbq sauce, soy, vegan mayo, tonkatsu sauce Shiitake to Me: mushrooms sautéed in coconut milk, shiitake & sweet potato vegan tempura, truffle oil, thai basil, sweet soy sauce That's just three out of the nearly 20 custom vegan rolls, folks. And the others are just as wild. Combine that with several vegan nigiri options and starters, and this is one big ol' plant-based hot spot. They also have a kids' menu, including a kids' bento box that my son was super jazzed about. With a lot of the vegan options on happy hour, I really have no reason NOT to be here. The service could be a little better. Everyone is friendly for sure, but the food lags out of the kitchen, and we had to chase down our server for basics like water and napkins. My wife and I got all of our food, several rolls and starters, about 20 minutes before our kids' food came out. Have fun trying to explain to a five-year-old and his three-year-old sister why they have no food and the grown-up food just keeps coming. The place is large with a great patio for warmer days. Trendy decor, smooth vibes, the place is a total "fun date" or "late dinner hangout" spot for friends. I'm surprised they aren't open later, but 10 PM is decent. I'm definitely a fan. Just probably won't come back with the kiddos, as patience is not a word they are familiar with. See you for some more vegan goodness soon, Blue Sushi!
The service here was attentive & great. Our 2nd time here, and our server Kevin & host were so attentive and accommodating. They helped us celebrate an anniversary by comping a round of cocktails. The food did not match up with the premium price. The taste was just ok. Everything was doused in sauce, fried, or had small portions of fish. We’ve tried a range of Michelin star omakase to AYCE, sadly, most Ayce is better than what we had. Liked the concept of where their fish is sourced/procured but lacked taste & balance.
We ordered couple sushies, the best one is Amazon roll. Tuna tower was delicious as well. Their sushi is average. The atmosphere has nice vibe and it is good for hanging out with friends or date night.

I just wanted to make this review in case others are looking for a place to eat in the area - I would skip out. I ordered the Hotel Cali roll, the Cabo roll, and the salmon sashimi. The rolls were disappointing, and the sashimi was something I couldn’t finish at all. There was no quality check done on my food. The only thing I can say is that the presentation of the food was pretty, but the taste was just not there. Kristin, who seemed like she was a lead, asked my husband, “Can I flick your head?” as we were leaving the restaurant. He was caught off guard and awkwardly said, “Uh… okay.” This happened on Valentine’s Day, which made the comment especially strange and uncomfortable. Kristin also noted that her boss was nearby and said she didn’t care if we left a review. We spent over $250 and the food was good, but her comment about wanting to flick my husband’s head on the way out really ruined the vibe of what should have been a nice dinner.
