If you want modern yet traditional Mexican cuisine, this is the spot! Don't expect your usual burritos and carne asada fries. Cocina de Barrio brings to the table exquisite traditional Mexican dishes. From its spicy yet tame aguachile, to its finely seasoned, well thought of and beautifully plated mole dishes to their mezcal cocktails, every scent, bite, sight and bite will leave you wanting more.
Amazing! The food is delicious! Had the quesadillas huitlacoche (with mole), and they were fantastic. The mole is so unique and full of flavor. Also had the tacos el pastor and the memelitas. Both were delicious, but the mole was the star. Had their house Marg which was delicious. Prices are great, $10-$15 for their plates and $20-$25 for their heavy plates. Overall I thought it was amazing and I'll definitely be back
This was a wonderful dining experience. It can either be a casual date night or a fancy date night, either attitude works. Got some drinks, which were both very tasty. For apps we got the 🥥 aguachile - fresh and with a slight kick. Also got the. Tlayuda with beef birria…it was delicious! For dinner the Misses had the pollo 🐤 en mole coloradito. She loved it. Mole was rich and thick, and chicken was cooked well. I had the costillas (🐷 ribs) in salsa verde. Wow. So good. Fall off the bone good. The salsa verde wasn’t very 🌶 which is good since it didn’t overpower the ribs, but instead complemented them well. Highly suggest this dish. Both dishes were served with nopales (cactus), 🍚 with black beans (rice with beans mixed in), and some carrots. Lastly, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the staff was wonderful. Very friendly, hustling, and accommodating. 📝: The portions aren’t small, decent, or normal. They are wonderfully large. For fine dining where you traditionally leave hungry, you leave here with leftovers (which make a wonderful breakfast!) Also of note, they have a lot of vegan/vegetarian options. The aguachile we had was 🌱, and tasty. So a good spot if you have a mixed appetite./
Absolutely LOVE this restaurant! We went for Sunday brunch and got there early to get seated with no wait. Their dishes are bursting with bold and robust flavors. I ordered a cucumber margarita with reposado tequila and the huevos rancheros. He got the Chilaquilles rojas con tinga. We we definitely be going back to try more dishes. Big portions!
Haven't been here in awhile and saw the happy hour sign outside so we thought we would just get a $5 margarita. Checked out the menu and got the tacos recommended by Ulises our server. Delicious, we'll be back.
First time trying this place. Is not a typical Mexican food, is what they now call " Modern Mexican food" We were party of four they all love their food! I don't drink for brunch but two of them ordered drink and they said they were good!! I ordered the green chilaquiles. The plate is serve with a bed of black beans, and with birria on the top (beef) you have the option to add egg for extra charge. The service was great! the server and other girl, I think the manager were checking on us asking if we needed anything else. We will definitely go back to this place!
I'm mean.. WOW!! Absolutely delicious!! We had the chili chiliquilles Verdes with a over medium egg on top! Perfection!! We did ask for a side of salsa! Lorena, our server brought to our attention that it was spicy! So, I was excited! Any-who the salsa was spicy, however, it packed so much flavor that I highly suggest giving it a try! A little goes a long way! My boyfriend had the Cheesecake pancakes. (Delicious) I haaaddd to have the churro French toast 😋 and they did not disappoint. They actually exceeded the expectation and set a high standard! "They understood the assignment!!" Mango margaritas with the mango ice cream bars. (Excellence) Tia chata (Excellence) Cafe de Olla ( Excellence) If you are in town and have not tried this place, please do so! If your not in town and and thinking about making a trip, for here! Its definitely worth it! Thank you 😊
Soooooo gooddddd. Omg everything was so fresh and seasoned so well. The vegan coconut aguachile was amazing, I ate it without the chips. The vegan mushroom tacos were so flavorful and delicious. The lamb birria was good as well. Amazing happy hour menu. Great service from bartender. So far I’m impressed best service I’ve received since I’ve been in San Diego
We ordered cocktails, beer, ceviche, aguachile, pollo en mole coloradito, tacos de birria, quesadillas, and more, we wanted to try everything we could. It was good, service was ok, there was times when we were ready to order more dishes and drinks, and we just couldn’t find our waitress. Food does rescue original mexican flavors.
LOVE IT!! Great food, awesome drinks and excellent service 👌🏽 100% recommended. I'm Mexican and the food has real Mexican taste. The prices are good for san diego prices. Not too expensive but definitely not a good place if you are in a budget. The place is pretty cute so you can take cool pics for insta. Overall super recommend and I will definitely go back.
Yum! This was a great restaurant with excellent customer service. The bartenders were awesome. Place is cozy and overall environment welcoming and fun. Tlayuda with birria was bomb. Meat was so tender and flavorful. Recommend half chorizo and half birria. Horchata cocktail was so good. Thank you!
We have a monthly brunch club of about 10 women and we pick a place every month different we chose this and it was awesome I can't wait to go again the food was phenomenal very fancy looking and delicious and very gourmet the prices are very good the drinks are outstanding for brunch the popsicle margaritas are to die for you have to try this out if you haven't been there if you want to go to brunch my best tip is to go at 9:45 in the morning on Sunday they open at 10 and you will be 1st in line otherwise the line is down the sidewalk at 10 o'clock...
Super fun, vivacious and bright brunch spot in Hillcrest serving fresh Mexican flavors and bottomless mimosas! We got a nice spot outdoors without waiting too long on a Saturday morning (came at 10:30am). The bottomless mimosas were $22 each, and came in many flavors: tamarind, mango, pineapple, lavender (butterfly), jicama, and cranberry. I loved their presentation (floral/bright) and they made them strong!! Food was also so good. We ordered: Mango Habanero Aguachile Salmon hash Enmoladas - enchiladas with mole sauce Green Chilaquiles - pulled pork Very delicious!! Would recommend any of those items. Love to come back again with another group of friends. Thank you for such great service!
Heard good things about this place and it did not disappoint. The ceviche was fresh and tasty. The pulpo was tender. Tequila cocktails were delicious and not too sweet! But most importantly, the service was on point. The server and other consistently check on us and I never felt like we were bugging.
Brunch at Cocina de Barrio was amazing! I had the Tlayuda with beef birria and it was so flavorful and perfectly cooked. The service was just as great, super friendly and attentive. I also recommend ordering French toast for the table, three of us shared the Crème Brulee toast and it was perfect.
First time coming here and I'm impressed with the churros and french toast for brunch. It had a perfect mix of fruits and churros along with the nice and puffy French toast. Highly recommend if you like french toast. Chillaquiles Verde was good also. Chips were nice and crispy. Birria tasted good also. Overall satisfied with the brunch here, service and quality of food was great.
Don't worry about costing an arm and a leg to dine at the kitchen of the hood ;) It's pretty safe out here. I am still in one piece as I write this review. We happened to dine there on Valentine's day and they got pretty creative with the names of their dishes on the menu. I thought I was in the making of the 51st shade of Grey. The food overall tasted very good. Charred octopus was well cooked, striking a balance between chewiness and tenderness. If only its appearance looked firmer; I always thought Ursula would look better with a face lift. The lobster sauce dressed the masa cake pretty well. Eat them together since the saltiness in the sauce is supposed to accompany the cake. The grilled lamb was juicy with its meat easily picked from the bone and well seasoned. The white fish was fresh; nicely coupled with the pickled veggies. The acidity of the pickle was excellent; and I was surprised seeing the prickly pear cactus in there. Overall, it was a good evening in the neighborhood.
MARGARITA WITH A POPSICLE!? Make the reservation, especially if you’re traveling from out of town. Traditional Mexican cuisine with a modern twist and exceptional flavor. Try the quesadilla de huitlacoche, very unique and traditional if you’re feeling adventurous. You just can’t go wrong picking anything from the menu, the business truly pours their soul into every dish. Order the margarita with a popsicle at the end of your meal, yes.. literally a whole popsicle!
Generous portions, very tasty and SO fresh. Loved the atmosphere and plan to come back for brunch! Also the sopa azteca was great, also very large.
Must try! Many of my friends told me about this place, but I have 0 tolerance for spicy food, so Mexican cuisine is always a challenge for me. However, I tried this place more than once, and believe me that what is mild is mild. Food tastes amazing, really authentic, and the atmosphere is super chill. In the picture: Chilaquiles Verdes, Chilaquiles Rojos, and Cafe de olla.
A gem in Hillcrest featuring dishes from Oaxaca. In my opinion, the best tacos in San Diego are right here in either lamb or beef, don't forget to ask for the salsa! Their dishes are beautiful, clean, and the prices are great! Other excellent dishes include the memeletas. Their drinks are well crafted, strong, and check the fruity popsicles included with the margaritas. The staff is friendly, service is great, food comes really fast. My only complaints are the seating is somewhat uncomfortable and it would be nice to get some chips and salsa. Those are pretty minor things. This is a great restaurant.
If you're in San Diego and looking for a taco experience that stands out in the our competitive restaurant scene, you gotta try Cocina del Barrio. This place is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates elevated, flavorful cuisine. From the moment you walk in, you can tell that every detail has been carefully curated—from the mouthwatering birria tacos to the carefully curated cocktails poured to perfection. The vibe here is amazing, with a laid-back yet vibrant atmosphere that perfectly captures the essence of San Diego. The line on weekends might be long, but trust me, it's well worth the wait. And while their bottomless mimosas are a hit, it's the food that will have you coming back again! Each bite is packed with flavor, showcasing the quality and passion behind every dish. Whether you're a local or just visiting, cocina del Barrio is a spot you need to add to your taco bingo card The combination of incredible food, expertly mixed drinks, and welcoming environment makes this spot a true gem in San Diego. Do yourself a favor and add this to your “must go to” list—it might become one of your favorites, too. Until next time…
Honestly this place is consistently on point. You really can’t go wrong with any dish. It takes Mexican food to the next level. The sauces are flavorful and bright. The meats are tender. The customer service is also great and if you’re there for bottomless mimosas your glass will never be empty. I absolutely recommend this place.
This place blew my mind. The food was so well prepared and beautifully plated and hella affordable. Like it was made by people having a great day. The entire staff was friendly and attentive. It wasn't just our server paying us mind but everyone else made sure our needs were being met and we were enjoying ourselves and the food. Loved the ambiance and layout of the place. Appreciated that the bathroom door was open so I wouldn't have to touch the handles. We happened upon the place entirely by chance. Our intended spot for brunch had a really long line. But now it's at the forefront of my mind for brunch spots. Definitely every trip I take to San Diego in the future will include a visit to this spot. Too bad y'all aren't in Texas.
We ordered fish tacos and creme brulee and they were both delicious. The kid's chicken tenders and fries were not great. Our server was attentive when we told her we had to rush and got out dessert right away. The lemon rice and beans were also to die for. The spicy salsa that came with the fish tacos. FIRE. We wish we had the time to order some drinks..next time
I discovered cocina when it first opened a few years ago and it easily became a favorite spot. The staff is always friendly, food amazing, and the ambiance/decor is so lively and artsy. The popsicle cocktails are beyond amazing and such a fun and unique touch. Definitely a great spot for birthdays! All of the other cocktails are also amazing as well, the horchata drink is dangerously good. Highly recommend the oysters, rolled tacos, both of the ceviches, & churros for dessert.
Cocina brings Mexican food to a new path. Exquisite flavors and unique dishes. Don’t expect your usual chips, salsa and guacamole, the experience is more sophisticated without loosing their origins. Service is great and ambience vibrant and casual. We order their birria tacos and a delicious passion fruit margarita.
Overall: Vibrant food - a feast for the eyes at an unbelievable value. Since you know all the Old Town Mexican places are booked up on open table on a Saturday night, why not head a few blocks east and check out Cocina de Barrio on Fifth? Atmosphere: Do not let the small, simple indoor seating area fool you when you first walk in, Cocina de Barrio is a first class dining experience. Ask to sit outside in their covered patio and order some cocktails and tacos right away. Get plates to share and keep a menu so you can order many things to try. This is a great place to really relax and enjoy your meal - laugh loudly with your friends and go ahead and order just one more plate of tacos. Menu: You cannot go wrong on the menu. Ceviche tacos, oysters, and the most tender octopus I have ever had. Their salmon came with this amazing masa that stole the show for the table. Ask for extra servings of their spicy salsa. The table raved about the beef and lamb tacos and had to get a couple orders. The plating is fun and artistic yet casual, with generous portions for the price. Several vegetarian and vegan options with cashew cheeses make this an excellent option for a diversity of dietary needs. Service: José was so attentive to our table that you'd think we were the only patrons. Even with a crowded patio, he stayed on op of the table and our drinks and plates were never empty until the end. He took the time to make personal recommendations made our experience memorable. The staff is warm and welcoming like a family inviting you in for dinner and drinks. Price: We could have easily kept the bill to $50/pp, but with appetizers, extra tacos, cocktails and entrees, we came to an exact $70/pp after a generous and well deserved tip.
The service here was amazing, Danny was fast and attentive, our food came out so fast I didn't even get a chance to dive into hunger. Had the creme brulee French toast and Veggie Hash with hot sauce. The food was great and flavorful. And they have in indoor and outdoor dining area. I like sitting outside but it was raining so we sat inside. Overall, great dining experience.
Another i have been wanting to go since we left San Diego. Had been eyeing it on Instagram for some time. Phenomenal dining experience. Beautiful restaurant with an excellent vibe, impeccable service, and amazing food. We sat in the balcony and it was perfect San Diego weather. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. The food. Phenomenal. The drinks were excellent. Had the special of the month which was a fig mule, so good. We had the taquitos and tacos de birria appetizers and bother were phenomenal and platted beautifully. For dinner my partner an i both had the short ribs in mole and my friend the pescado zarandeado and loved it. The homemade corn tortillas were delicious and the presentation, beautiful. Phenomenal dinning experience that everyone must have. Kuddos to Cocina del Barrio.
First time having brunch here , I loved everything about this restaurant… David Renteria was our waiter. Very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. David, thank you again for making our first time there a great experience. I mentioned to my son to please make sure we come back to Cocina De Barrios.
I am shamelessly plugging in their $20 bottomless mimosa, best deal in town!!! All the flavors we tried were super yummy. The service was efficient and friendly. Now let's talk about THE FOOD, oh my GOD the FOOD!! It is very authentic to the roots of the original recipes, so you can totally see the inspiration and spices behind every single dish but they elevate it. You can feel it in the unique creaminess of the chilaquiles or the depths of flavors from their mole. It feels as if they gave every single dish a unique super power and your mission is to decipher it with your taste buds. I honestly wish I have the opportunity to be a regular at this spot if I ever relocate to San Diego.
This was on our to-do list during our trip to SD, and it exceeded our expectations from start to finish, all thanks to our amazing server, Jose. My husband and I both had the chilaquiles verdes, which came with a side of salsa rojo—absolutely delicious! The tortillas stayed perfectly crispy, and each bite was bursting with flavor. I also tried the Café de Olla, and it was hands down the best I've ever had! We ended our meal with churros paired with their homemade dulce de leche ice cream. If you're in the SD area, this place is a must-visit!
I was visiting San Diego for my birthday and remembered that I had saved this restaurant after being suggested their TikTok’s from the owner’s daughter who also worked there several years ago. Came here for my birthday and it definitely matched expectations. We got mid day reservations at 3pm and it was not full. I ordered the jalapeño mezcal cocktail which was spicy and good. We ordered ceviche robalo and salmon de mole and both was absolutely delicious. My friend mentioned it was my bday and they brought us a large slide of tres leches cake.
Cocina De Barrio made a delicious first impression with us! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by friendly, attentive staff who got us checked in, took our temp (I haven't been anywhere else around here who does that-cool!) and well looked after. The salmon in mole amarillo was moist and packed with flavor, as were the mouth-watering beef birria tacos, which came on insanely good blue corn tortillas. We tried an infladita de barbacoa, also, and I'm pretty sure I'll be having one every time I go there from now on, because it was crazy good! The puffy taco shell was stuffed full of the juiciest, melt in your mouth delicious beef, but it was still crispy- amazing! You'll want to save room for dessert, in spite of having devoured your dinner, because the tres leches cake, which came served in a little flowerpot, was definitely worth wrecking your diet over. Sometimes I think people make tres leches cake too "smooshy," and lose the fluffy texture, but that's not the case here. The cake is still moist and tasty, but is still light and delicate. Crushed Oreo "soil," fresh berries, and edible flowers complete the flower pot. We went all in on dessert and also tried the chocolate brulee, which I think used a darker, more bittersweet chocolate. It. Was. Perfect. The custard was exactly the right consistency, like dark chocolatey silk, with a crunchy caramelized top. The mezcal margaritas were the best for a nice hot day, but I'm looking forward to our next visit to try some of the Mexican beers and wines they have on the menu (I didn't know they made wine in Ensenada!).
Fantastic brunch, great service. This is on my must come back list. I've listed my dinner pics here. I definitely have to say that brunch is better than dinner. Service is definitely slow in the evening, not as quick and organized. Items don't come out in a timely manner. Still a fav of mine, though. ;)
Food was delicious. Homeade tortillas. Shared several dishes everything was delicious. The chips in the Chilaquiles stayed crispy! Service was helpful and quick. Not busy for weekday lunch time which was surprising. Good sized portions. Definitely will go back.
Just landed in San Diego and stopped at Cocina De Barrio for lunch. Really good authentic Mexican joint with a relaxed outdoor seating area. We had chips, salsa, guacamole, and their house-made salsa macha, which was excellent. I tried a couple of Mezcals and ordered the plant-based mushroom tacos - easily some of the best I’ve had, full of flavor and very satisfying. Great place to unwind after a flight.
My wife and I love this place! Happy hour 3 to 5pm most days and a nice selection of seating areas. Their margaritas are made fresh instead of using a mix and you can taste the difference! They also have a "popsicle margarita," which is like it sounds, a margarita with a popsicle garnish! (You even get to choose what flavor popsicle you get!) The food is also excellent. Most dishes/drinks are presented beautifully, garnished with fresh flowers.
My mom and I were looking for brunch in the downtown San Diego area, and this spot caught my eye. Cocina de Barrio is a cute spot serving hearty food, delicious and aesthetic cocktails, and good vibes all around! They don’t take reservations for brunch, for those trying to reserve beforehand. It’s a huge seating area though, both indoors and outdoors, so you and your group should be ser! My mom and I walked in and got seated immediately. Our servers were super nice, and had a good sense of humor. We ordered the enmoladas (which my mom enjoyed), and I devoured the sopes benny. Both dishes were delicious!! I also got the Tia Chata cocktail, which was a cute cocktail that came with its own popsicle! I could see the girlies having a cute brunch here, especially with their mimosa deal. Definitely come by and check this place out! Drinker or not, this restaurant is a must try!
Great vibes all around. Went on a Sunday with no reservations and only waited about 15mins for a table. I didn’t like that you couldn’t order drinks at the bar and wait for a table. If you went to the bar you had to stay there to eat and you would not be added to the waitlist. The food was good. The drinks were better! The service from DAVID WAS THE BEST! Have great recommendations, was quick with bottomless mimosa refills, and extremely attentive. Will be back.
Cocina De Barrio is in San Diego and was absolutely fantastic. I have never had a spin on Mexican inspired breakfast the way CDB does it. It is difficult to put it in words. I had a poached egg breakfast and have not had a better breakfast with a poached egg than CDB. The service was great and the portion size was more than enough. There is inside and outside seating as well as seating at the bar (full bar). We had Sopas Benny, Cafe de olla coffee, pollo en mole negro, chorizo hash, ginger sangria white wine. We didn't have a wait when we arrived (1045am) but when we left there was. The next time I'm in the San Diego area we will visit CDB for sure. I took a pic of the menu, take a look at the pancake and waffle breakfast creations, amazing. Can't wait to return.
Wasn't sure what to expect when dining here, but overall it was a rather nice experience. Our server was rather attentive and our food came out pretty quickly. I ordered the chilaquiles verde and everything about it was delicious. The portion I thought was pretty generous and it also included a good amount of birria. I'd gladly come back here to order the same or try something new
What a great spot! We stopped over for lunch and were not disappointed. Although the menu is limited they had several plant-based options. I had the Memelitas de Chorizo and Nopal. The food was exquisite with the appropriate spice level. The food portion was perfect. Glad we stopped by.
My favorite brunch spot in San Diego, if not my favorite brunch spot of all time. Most of the time there’s a wait, but it’s worth it in my opinion. The foods never been short of amazing, and they really make sure you never see the bottom of your glass during bottomless brunch. These guys are amazing!
We got lucky, no wait. We got seated right away. We ordered coffee and a mimosa. Both delicious. Then we ordered a stack of pancakes and Huevos Rancheros. I found the place to be slightly loud. But we were still able to hold a conversation. It also took some time to get our food. It was a Sunday morning.
We went for brunch on a Sunday and had a bit of a wait to sit but the food came quickly once we got our table. $22 for bottomless mimosas and huge portions on all of the meals. The omelette was cooked well and they also allowed us to order Birria tacos from the lunch menu. The sauce came on top for the tacos and it soaked through the tortillas pretty quickly so would have been great if the tortillas were doubled because they were pretty hard to eat. Great otherwise!
Delicious brunch at Cocina De Barrio! The food is really a level above. We ate the salmon hash, robalo al ajillo, and the ceviche de robalo & xoconostle. The ambiance is nice and the servers are friendly and quick. The restrooms have changing tables as well. We sat on the dog friendly patio. There can be a wait for brunch on a Saturday. Recommend, great food!
I went for breakfast with my family, it was cute vibe and the food presentation was very pretty as well. The food was delicious and the server was kind. Great experience, except I got like 8 mosquito bites. Everyone else was fine, but I got bitten so much even though I sat inside, but that's not really their fault lol. So bring mosquito repellent or something I guess.
This is a great brunch spot to explore a range of Oaxacan specialties. The flavors are bold, vibrant, and full of depth. Their house made hot sauce brings lots of heat.
Great service and a casual and comfortable atmosphere. The guacamole and salsa appetizers were terrific. The huitlacoche and birria taco dishes we had were flavorful but didn't match my palette well with the mole being too sweet and the birria too salty. Next time I'll try something with more subtle flavors. The flan we had for dessert was delicious but there was no coffee available because the restaurant was preparing to close for the night.
The popsicle alcohol drinks were great! Loved it. Food was good too, the ceviche was a little fancy but I liked it. Their serving sizes are large, so good value. I personally would avoid the outdoor seating near the street, it's loud and hot. The 'outdoor' patio seating in the restaurant was much better.
Dropped in with friends on the way back to LA. I had chillaquiles Rojos and a Butterfly mimosa. The chillaquiles were delicious. I had the egg on the side because I knew I wasn't going to finish it and wanted to make a fresh egg for my leftovers 😋 Chips were perfect, and everything was well seasoned. The only change I would make is to have mature cilantro and not just the micro cilantro as it was overpowered by all of the other flavors. The Butterfly mimosa was absolute perfection! So good!
Happy hour. 3-5pm Tues-Friday. (+) Outdoor seating that is dog friendly. (+) Good deals on margaritas - you can choose between blanco, reposado, or anejo with a variety of flavors. (+) Tacos. Birria and the al pastor. Really liked the blue corn tortillas. Wish it came with some salsa or hot sauces. HH deals come with 3 tacos, great deal.
Nice spot for breakfast. From the chilaquiles I’d recommend the verdes over the rojos due to the protein that comes with each. Green has birria, and red has chicken tinga. Pancakes were also delicious although they came quite a bit after they’d brought us the rest of the food. Service was ok, rushed because it was full and neither bad not spectacular. Cafe de olla was yummy, but alright not anything to crazy. Overall, DAYGOEATS APPROVED💯 but not certified.
I had a great meal & all the dishes that my party ordered were tasty. Their home potatoes were super delicious! The pineapple pancake was beautiful, though the bottom was burnt a little bit. The servers seemed a bit overwhelmed & we had to make requests multiple times for a few things. It’s definitely worth checking out.. just be patient with the service, as it can be a bit slow.
All the food we ordered was very good, the mole was delicious but I want able to enjoy the whole dinner caue a super spicy chili was covered with mole and I thought was chicken...I couldn't taste anything after that 🤣😭. I'll be back anyway on my next visit in San Diego.
Had a great time here with some friends. Very nice place. The waiter was really friendly and he made a few drink recommendations for my wife which she enjoyed. I got the birria tacos beef and my wife got the birria sopes(although called something else) The tacos were delicious. I also tried the churros which was another win. Unfortunately I tried the cafe de olla and I didn't like it. My favorite cafe de olla is still Fernandez. My friend got a mezcal drink that came with some fried grass hoppers he really enjoyed them. Wouldn't mind coming here again
Loved the atmosphere. The flavor of the food was good. We got both red and green chilaquiles. Unfortunately, the tortilla chips in the dish were too thick and hard to chew, kinda hurt my jaw to eat through them. Also, I wish they added more queso fresco and sour cream as there was barely any. They also drowned the dish in sauce, so it was a bit much, but the flavor is good. My husband ordered French toast, and they were delicious. My husband ordered a horchata mixed drink for me, and it was amazing. Also, their coffee is really good, and I'm not typically a coffee drinker!
Everything was delicious! Starting with my cocktail (la mula), so refreshing! Then the food, so well balanced and full of traditional mexican flavors. The tlayuda and the birria are superb! Then the desserts didn't disappoint, highly recommend the flan, so creamy! Excellent service although sometimes a bit slow. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food you receive. Definitely a place to go back!
My favorite was the pineapple upsidedown pancakes. I will simply go back for those. Green chilaquiles tasted good. Omlette did not have a lot of flavor. Was charged two dollars for a side of green salsa. Went early on a Sunday, so it was crowded and a bit loud. That's expected though, given how many people go. Had to pay for parking. $20 dollars for 3 hours.
Enjoyed visiting this place for brunch with family from out of town. Dog friendly patio. Food presentation is lovely, unfortunately I found a hair in my dish. Everyone else in our party seemed pleased with their choices. Seems that with a little more love and attention to service and other details, this place could deliver higher. Still a good option and would not discourage anyone from visiting.
Delicious food! Great service! Choice of drinks is great too. Definitely will go back over and over again. Waiters and servers are excellent!! I just wish they can offer a couple of varieties of salsas to go with the birria which by the way is delicious!!! Everything we ordered was properly cooked and presentation was very appetizing too!
Made reservations through Open Table for 7pm but we got there early at 6 and they were able to accommodate us for an inside table. Thank you! It was a chilly night and inside tables were full, all socially distanced apart. Outside tables still had spots. Everyone serving us wore masks. We started with Pulpo a la Brasa which is grilled octopus with mole. My friend is normally not a mole fan but she liked this sauce and it worked well with the octopus. However we’ve had better grilled octopus. This was a bit chewy. We also got tacos de birria which came with three beef corn tacos. The meat was tender and juicy but lacked a bit of flavor that we needed to ask for hot sauce. They brought it out and it was super spicy! Last we got pescado zarandeado which is grilled sea bass with masa dumplings and corn cake which looks like mash potatoes. You would need to combine the fish, corn cake, and veggies together to get an amazing bite to fuse all the flavor together. Otherwise, it would be bland and hot sauce would be needed. We were too full for dessert but we did start with a popsicle flavored margarita. I got pineapple and she got mango flavor. Overall, I was not overly impressed with the food but I did see they have great vegan options and I think that area would appeal more to me if I ever come back.
Good food for a decent price! I love all that there were many plant-based options offered, making this food accessible to everyone. However, some options, whether they were plant based or not, could be hit or miss. My favorite item from the menu happened to come from the plant based menu, the flor de calabaza. I would be wary with what I order, however, because there were more dishes that I didn’t like compared to the ones I did. For example, we ordered the Tres Leches, which was almost dry, unevenly soaked, and had an odd tinge of bubblegum. But the churros, were amazing and I would change nothing about them. Overall, if I only had ordered the flor de calabaza and the churros, this restaurant would’ve been at a 4/5, however, trying other disappointing dishes had me rating it lower.
Came here during happy hour for a co-workers birthday. The $5 margaritas were great! Unfortunately, the servers seemed annoyed with our larger party wanting to order from the happy hour menu. We had to request the menu as none were originally offered to us. Naturally, people were ordering margaritas and some of the cheaper food options. Happy hour runs 3-5PM. At 4:56PM we asked someone who worked there to take our order before happy hour ended. He told us he was not a server but offered to get one. The server came over at 5:00PM and stated that "the machine" wouldn't let him put in any additional happy hour orders. Our party just stared at him in disbelief and tried to explain that we had tried to order before 5PM. He would not honor the prices. So overall, I would only go here for happy hour and I would arrive early as to not get caught up in the machine not working. Service was meh but a cute place for average Mexican food!
The food is average and the service was pretty bad. They avoided our table intentionally so we couldn't order more off the happy hour menu (which they didnt even provide a menu for). Would not recommend 🤷♂️
$14 for chips and salsa, for a standard basket of chips and a small bowl of salsa $14!! was honestly shocking. The birria tacos were also disappointing; they were served on soft taco tortillas and did not come with consommé, which is typically expected. That said, the service was good and the drinks were enjoyable. Others in our group liked their meals, especially the short rib mole and the elote with shrimp. Overall, we wouldn’t return. It felt more like a tourist trap than a place for authentic food.
The food here at this location was far below acceptable. The flavor was off and the server was rude. Definitely save your money and head for old town for more quality food especially for your money.
I honestly believe any review of this place of more than three stars is probably a paid review. After reading through all the five star reviews I have conclusion they are definitely paid reviews as they don't even make sense. The food at this place was by far the worst tasting food I have ever had in my entire life. I'm not exaggerating. I could not finish just my simple plate of chicken mole. I should have known something be wrong when our food came out within 2 minutes after ordering. It. Certainly not fresh. Chicken was very dry and the sauce was to put it simple. Disgusting.
