I just so happen to bump into this place. Was walking with my brother in Chula Vista on a Sunday when we saw this place. They offer bottomless mimosas and a brunch buffet on Sundays and you just can’t beat it. Staff is super friendly and helpful!!! Drinks were great food was awesome and the bartender who attended at the bar was top notch and super friendly as you would want all bartenders to be. Would definitely come back again and bring the whole family.
I love Kalaveras! This place is beautifully decorated with vibrant Mexican-style calavera paintings that give it an authentic and festive vibe. There’s a huge TV perfect for watching sporting events, which makes it a great spot to hang out with friends or family. The service was top-notch—everyone was super attentive and friendly. We ordered the Molcajete, and it was absolutely delicious! It came loaded with beef, shrimp, chicken, avocado, nopales, and more. At $45, it’s definitely worth it and easily feeds two to three people. We also tried a flight of margaritas and a couple of their slushie margaritas—both were amazing and super refreshing. Overall, Kalaveras offers great food, an amazing atmosphere, and excellent service. Can’t wait to go back!
Had brunch with with family on a rainy day and it was amazing! Especially love the interior design. Service was wonderful and the food was delicious. Can’t wait to eat here again!
*Edit Recently returned and I am happy to say we received the same level of High quality service! Or even better! Our server David was so attentive, friendly and welcoming! Made sure we had everything we needed and checked on us often. We Tried the fresh guacamole appetizer comes served in a beautiful tradicional mexican bowl and It was delicious! So glad to have come back! It is so nice when I come upon restaurants that really strive to offer quality food and service! It's a new place that hasn't had a grand opening yet, but has been open for a couple of weeks. The brightly calavera paintings on the outside building caught our attention as we drove on 3rd Ave. You are Immediately greeted with a beautiful mural of Frida in the entrance. We were seated right away, it is very spacious and has a dark art vibe! They have a long bar, plenty of tables and booths. Fernanda was our waitress. She was very attentive and showed us the happy hour menu and lunch specials. We ordered the potato tacos and barbacoa plate. They were so flavorful and had all the authentic Mexican seasonings!! The presentation was perfect and very detailed! Our glasses were kept full and we were given everything we needed. Every server that passed checked on us. I hope this place maintains the quality of service for a long while. They are a chain further north but this is the first one in San Diego. If this level of food and service continues I will be a regular 😊 Monday margaritas $5!! They have great specials! Taco Tuesday and Sunday brunch buffet!
1st time going, I decided to check it out on Thirsty Thursday 🤪 My daughter had the Dragon roll & I had the Quesabirria tacos. We had an amazing server, and she was very attentive. We didn't realize that a live band was going to play. Good mix of music, a little bit of everything. I'm definitely going back & taking the rest of the girls! Drinks were on point 😉
First time I come for Taco Tuesday. You order the meat and add your own toppings from the topping bar. Everything is very flavorful.
Visited Kalaveras for the Buffet Brunch on Sunday. My servers were Tony and Valeria. Great service. Buffet was very good. Some items were a bit spicy 🔥. The chicken mole was the best. Visited today for Taco Tuesday! Had a paloma with TEQUILA MANDALA Blanco which is my favorite. Had three of their Taco Tuesday tacos. Everything was delicious. Great service! Everyone is very friendly. Really close to home which is gonna be a dangerous temptation. Have now visited Kalaveras several times. The service is always very good Today our server was Antonio who was amazing. He was very accommodating and friendly. Taco Tuesday is the best day to try Kalaveras. Had their Dragon Roll Sushi Roll today. Mondays are Margarita Mondays $4.99 margaritas.
My wife and I drove by and decided to try it out the food was awesome also the drinks were great. She had the ceviche and nachos i had tacos one with guayabera, birria w/consume and carnitas. We spent about a $100 the happy hour was the best
Amazing service! We wanted to be outside and they accommodate us immediately even though the servers weren’t servicing outside! The food was amazing and it was lovely experience to celebrate a confirmation and a bday. We are from Orange County and this was an amazing experience! Please give a raise to the gentleman with the green eyes light skin super handsome he said he was training to be a supervisor. He executed exactly how a manager should be. Please give him the position he deserves!

It was mid-morning, so it wasn't busy. Very clean establishment. Great music playing. Not too loud so you are able to converse without yelling. Food was delicious and plentiful. Although I had coffee with my food, the drink menu was great. A lot of options. Service was excellent. They were very attentive & present. Highly recommend you visit. I will be returning.
Fun fun fun x100 %. Had a date night, and after an Italian dinner 🍽 😋 we decided to visit the local bar 🍸. So much atmosphere, vibrancy, colors, and great culture. The drinks were great and well served. The food is not bad and yet not great. Overall, I'll stick to the appetizers. A must visit for date night for get togethers and definitely for unwinding!.
The location of the restaurant is great for the South Bay and Chula Vista. The server was very informative and knowledgeable of the menu. Food was appealing, flavorful, and had great presentation. The music the dj was spinning was good. The music level was over the top, which prevented any type of conversation. The drinks were vibrant price point on some of the drinks were high. Would go back for appetizers and a drink.

I will say this place is better than the last one they replaced! You definitely feel like you're in a video or out at a party when you walk in. It's very colorful and there's videos of music on the walls! This staff was very nice and we went during lunch. Good tacos good mexican coke and And their menu had a lot of options I get prices I recommend it. Good tacos.
I hot the red chilaquiles and they were too spicy for me. I was not able to finish them. But the service was great and the music not too loud. You can have a conversation and actually hear what they are saying.
The food was delicious, but the service was not great. We had to keep chasing the waiter for stuff that he kept forgetting to bring. At one point, we ended up walking to find him. Then we were overcharged. My family went there the week before and experienced the same thing.
We have been 3 times to Kalaveras since it opened recently. Last couple of times we have noticed that service is not as good as their food and atmosphere. One example, when we visited last time, our food was delivered without silverware and napkins. Our food was there on our table for 10 minutes+ and couldn't find anybody to get us utensils to be able to eat. I had to get up and literally go to the kitchen to ask. This is not good. I also asked for unsweetened iced tea as I am diabetic and obviously can't consume sweets. It didn't matter, our server got me sweetened iced tea that I couldn't drink and couldn't find anybody again to replace it. I was not going to get up again and go to the kitchen and ask for a replacement. I simply didn't drink it and just finished my food. These are the little things that matter regardless of how good your food is or how great the atmosphere is. We are not sure if we will be back again but hope that Kalaveras fixes this issue and focuses on better service.

I am writing to share my recent dining experience at Kalaveras with my husband and another couple. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing and far below the standard we had come to expect from previous visits. Our server, Emilio Gonzalez, was not attentive throughout the evening. Each time we tried to call him over, he was unavailable, and even something as simple as asking for water took an excessive amount of time. This left us feeling overlooked and frustrated. In addition, we noticed that the menu had changed, and the food portions seemed noticeably smaller compared to our past visits. While this was disappointing, the most concerning part of our experience was the service charge. An 18% service fee was automatically added to our bill even though we were only a party of four. We believe tipping should reflect the quality of service received, and in this case, we were not given the opportunity to tip accordingly. We have enjoyed Kalaveras in the past, but this experience left us very dissatisfied. I hope you will review these concerns so that other guests do not have the same experience in the future.

Live music instruments playing was pretty good but the girl singing more like karaoke. Also, the music was for dancing but they have tables and seats everywhere so you can’t dance? This makes no sense. Consider this on nights when you have live music, maybe move half the tables away because most tables were empty when I went anyways.
The mediocre margarita reportedly sold for $12.00 Dlls Never come back ……. Better Any Taco Bell Save 90 % off Overpriced. Freeze. Food Not fresh. 🤢🤮.
It's my first time coming here, and I arrived before 10 p.m. They wouldn't serve me because there were only two of us. They're supposed to close at 11 p.m. We only came here because happy hour is supposed to be from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. I'll never come here again. It's obvious they don't want to work. Neither me nor my husband.
I visited Calaveras today and had a disappointing experience I feel I need to share. When I arrived alone, the hostess at the entrance asked, “What can I help you with?” which caught me off guard, especially since I was clearly entering the restaurant to dine. With the music playing loudly, I thought maybe I misheard, but then she corrected herself and asked, “Just you?” That phrasing felt unnecessary and a bit uncomfortable. I was seated, and for a while, no one acknowledged me. I understand they were busy, so I waited patiently. A server eventually passed by and asked if everything was okay — I told them I was ready to order, and that’s when my actual server finally came. I only ordered two tacos, but again, the other server made a point of asking twice if I was dining alone, which I found strange and slightly dismissive. I sat and watched servers come and go, attending to other tables while my simple order still hadn’t arrived. I get that restaurants can get hectic, but waiting over 30 minutes for two tacos felt excessive — especially since I was trying to grab a quick bite before class. When I got up to let them know I needed to take my order to go because I was running late, they kindly offered to rush it. They even gave me extra chips and reduced the bill, which I appreciated. However, while those gestures were considerate, they don’t make up for the way I felt during the visit — overlooked, judged, and as if my presence wasn’t valued because I was alone or not spending much. I’ve been dining alone for years and never had an experience quite like this. It takes confidence to eat alone, and what should’ve been a simple, pleasant meal turned into a frustrating and disheartening one. They gave me the food in a bag and as I was leaving I looked inside to find the “tacos” not even anything but tortilla and the filling where on the menu it didn’t say it came like that. I wasn’t angry, and I expressed that when they offered to call a manager. But I do want to make it clear that I didn’t deserve to be treated like that. I left hungry, disappointed, and with the sense that I didn’t belong — all over two small tacos.

Please do yourself a favor and stop giving this place your money. Honestly, there is much better places for Mexican brunch and bottomless mimosas. The food was okay, but the bottomless mimosas were laughable. 75% orange juice in EVERY glass. Picture attached. They also overcharged us $120 and we had to get the bill fixed. I wont ever be coming back to an establishment like this. I would like to thank the servers for being amazing and really cool.
Honestly dont waste your time coming here . Its overhyped for no reason . Food was not good no flavor . Arrived around 930 . They tried telling us the kitchen was about to close . Online says 11 pm they close . I asked if I can order food or I can leave it was fine . They said yes but I heard complaints from the cooks ...whole time we were there felt unwelcome. They were mopping the floors basically closing down the whole restaurant while we were there . Felt very disrespected by that . Man at the bar keep looking at us w an angry face. Not going back . And seriously save your money we got a mix of different plates all of them were basic . Aguachile was beyond trash .
