Absolutely outstanding, truly a no-miss cocktail bar. We tried 9 different cocktails and every single one was excellent, both in balance and creativity. Complimentary snacks are provided and can be refilled, which is a nice touch and pairs well with the drinks. If you have a reservation, note that you’re given 90 minutes total, and the timer starts from your reservation time, not when you’re seated. Definitely arrive early, otherwise you’ll lose valuable drinking time.
Although I've read some reviews painting Handshake in a less than ideal light, I thought it was absolutely fantastic. To be among the best CDMX, it takes a lot, and I found they delivered in all fronts. Sure even with resos you have to wait, but I thought it was worth every minute. From the staff welcome, to the feel of a private server that was super attentive to every need, to the complexity and intricacy of the drink mixes, everything felt superb. We certainly didn't feel rushed with our time there. I thought that for the price of the drinks, they were far superior to some places that we tried whose drinks cost more. I would without a doubt return here even if their top50 designation slips a bit.
Unique speak easy cocktail bar rated #1 last year and #2 this year in the world as ranked by "50 best bars" seen on Instagram. You need to make reservations weeks in advance unless you want to wait hours to maybe get in. The cocktails are very good and extremely creative. You get 90 minutes from point entry into the bar itself, so drink with purpose! Bottoms up!
Not surprised they’ve won so many awards. Yes drinks are amazing but the SERVICE. everyone was accommodating, kind, and seemed genuinely excited to be there. Even for non drinkers, their menu is incredible. I don’t drink alcohol and tried the tea champagnes. The jasmine tea champagne was one of the best drinks I’ve ever had. Definitely make a reservation just to experience it here!
Couldn’t get a reservation so we decided to test our luck with the walk in on a sunday evening. Arrived at 5:40pm with about 6 people ahead of us, by the time 6pm hit there’s about 15 of us in line. We were told that they will honor reservations first before entertaining walk-ins at 6:15pm. By 6:30pm they got us a table for 3, service is impeccable, drinks are even better than expected.
Did I stay up until 2am to get a reservation at HandShake? Yes. Would I do it again? Definitely. We wanted to visit since it was on the World's 50 Best Bars List. Sometimes I am wary of the "lists" and feel like it's warranted. In the case of HandShake, it was not. While the "welcome" was a little over the top, it was still fun. We were the first seating of the night and were seating at the bar versus a table. It was so fun! They start you off with hot towels and tell you about the bar. It reminded me a little bit of our experience with bars in Seoul and Tokyo. Given a mix of snacks (that includes crickets!), we ordered our first round. I actually don't drink due to health reasons, but my partner does. Thankfully, HandShake had several mocktail options but they actually made an off-menu one for me after I described to them what I liked. I wasn't going to order another one but they gave me a sample of the chamomile tea champagne and it was not what I expected and was absolutely delicious so I ordered that as well. My partner had the Once Upon a Time in Oaxaca and the Pina Colada. We also ordered the ribeye sandwich. Everything was fantastic. Absolutely recommend. It's beautiful, the presentation is fantastic, and it's unforgettable. Highly recommend making a reservation, but sometimes you can get in I've heard!
Group of four, we visited Handshake speakeasy. Atmosphere was terrific, drinks were great (we pretty much had the whole menu). The staff were awesome, knowledgeable and described the drinks as good as they looked. We could definitely see why this was a highly ranked and we'll regarded place to visit and experience.
Handshake has lived up to their awards from the "Top 50" in my humble opinion. We were taken downstairs, and the experience began. ADVICE - try a few different drinks. They are INCREDIBLE and will warp your mind. Think of gastronomy but for drinks! I had: Peanut Butter and Jelly - OMG incredible Strawberry Michelada - never had one like this and still crave it Mexi-Thai - tequila but a spin on thai soup (tom kha gai) - order it - trust me Something spicy - which was also very tasty! Only feedback would be - the stools are HARD and for those of us who don't have lots of junk in our trunk, they were a bit uncomfy. The staff observed this and moved us up to the bar when space opened (my booty thanks you ha!) Overall - loved it - and will most def go back!
YOU HAD TO MAKE RESERVATIONS TWO WEEKS AHEAD. I always wanted to check out what’s the hype of this place. It is such a great experience . Every drink is phenomenal, that’s not something I had ever have before. They tasted so smooth and delicious. It was such a good show sitting right next to the bar to see all the magic happening. Too bad you can only stay for an hour and half. Or I will have to order couple more drinks. 100% recommended!
I came here in May and forgot to do a review sooner. The most important part of the review is getting a reservation will be incredibly difficult but don’t be discouraged. Just go wait about a hour before they open and they offer walk in availability, just line up in the hallway near the glass doors inside the hotel. I spoke with the lady running the reservations and she said they were having difficulties with their booking system so they keep a good amount of space open for walk ins. All of the drinks were great, signature cocktails, not regular drinks. All of the drinks are incredibly thought out and crafted. Some of them come with eating accompaniments, like the peanut butter jelly. The drink tastes like jelly and the accompanying bite the peanut butter. 100% will be back and if you’re in CDMX you need to try it out
An absolute gem! We went to book online and they were full (I’m not surprised!!). We went to their sister bar (Ahorita Cantina) which had a more relaxed and funky energy. Our particular thanks go to …

An overall great experience! From the minute you are greeted at the door to when you exit, you will have a great time. drinks are outstanding!

A bit hard to find, but worth it. Amazing drinks mixed infront of us, got explanations about the ingredients being used, how they are mixed. Friendly helpful staff, good atmosphere, an experience.

Very yummy drinks and a lovely place. I like a more kitschy type place but my personal style has nothing to do with how good the drinks were. We didn’t have any food there so can’t comment.
Drinks were great and they had some fun and unique takes on the classics. The ambience was cool as well though would recommend reserving a spot on Open Table as the space is small. Staff was friend…
I'd return here and am glad I made a reservation. They had good unique cocktails, but nothing that truly wowed or that I'd want to order a second of or try and recreate. Great atmosphere and excellent service. Very limited food. Earl Grey - super unique, small, refreshing Sparkling Jasmine N/A - very good, although the poor is very small Matcha Yuza - strong matcha, fun, not a crowd favorite Once a time in Oxaca- just strong in many dimensions. Good but kind of just strong. Not a crowd favorite. Mushroom butter Old fashioned - crowd favorite, very buttery. No mushroom. Camomile sparkling N/A - too sweet Negroni short - good but not special Note you really need a reservation here. People waiting without one had a 2-4 hour wait standing in a hotel lobby. This place isn't good enough to wait. There are plenty of other great bars. Also, the filtered water served tastes strongly of chemicals. Not great at an establishment focused on taste and smell. It was undrinkable.
I really wanted to like this place. For the most part I did enjoy the cocktails. However, the performative ambiance, odd nightclub music, and other eccentricities make it seem like it’s reaching a little too hard. Additionally, the spirit forward cocktails were still just too sweet. Note - this was for cocktails only and not their food menu, nor their N/A selection
3.5 stars rounded up. I had no issue making a reservation 14 days prior for 2 people, I just set a reminder in my phone. The ambiance, vibe, service are all outstanding. The drinks while unique are very small and lack alcohol. My boyfriend and I each tried 3 different drinks and didn’t even feel tipsy. The ice cubes in the drinks are so massive it leaves little room for liquid. And they were only 3/4 full. I’m glad we went to see what it was about, but I wouldn’t return.
This is a hard one to review. Its a bar but an experience....its expensive but somehow worth it, maybe. They are strict yet very accommodating and trying to get you in for a seating if reservations are full. But it's still a bar, yet you should have a reservation. After going to a place around the corner, while I waited for my same night 1030 reservation (which is amazing). The whole thing is a show: when you enter its like going to a sushi restaurant, where the bartenders great everyone. By the 4th guest you are yelling hello to the guest coming in. When seated you get a warm/hot towel for your face, and hands...Why? IDK the free nuts...to pick up a dirty old well used menu?? You then get asked if you know the deal for the place..no, just let me get a drink...which takes a while. Then while seated you get beaten by the waiter walking bye every 2 minutes because they can't spread out the tables well enough. Now the drink, Orange Blossom I had was great..was it $600 pesos's great..IDK..would I try it again yes. After looking at all the ice and sizes of the other drinks, it was the only one worth the price. Overall, I was glad I put it on my to do list. But all I wanted to do was leave. Yelling, getting bumped in the back and just dim dark and restaurant (non bar) feeling made it unbearable.
Space and vibe are cool but bar is very commercial they know the 8 drinks on the menu so don’t expect anything impressive or inventive not a true speak easy just an average bar located under the lo…

Didn't have food here. The drinks were unique and the service quite good. The mixology was mediocre. I had the fig martini which seemed to have too much vermouth. I didn't think the fig was a good flavor mix w gin. I like my martinis a bit dryer. I also got the pbj. The raspberry overpowered the entire drink. Never tasted peanut butter at all. Too sweet and fruity. My wife got the guava and jasmine drink which was by far the most well balanced of anything served. . It also had a tall clear ice cube which was cool. One of the best bars in the world? Not even close! When the most memorable item of a bar experience is the ice cube, you've waisted money.
So this very trendy, very highly rated bar started out stressing me out even before arriving, making the reservation process very difficult. Upon finally getting a reservation for 2 on the day we wanted, I received a notification through open table, that the establishment had canceled the reso. Thankfully, I was right by my phone, so I jumped online to try again, and got another reso for the same day and same time as before. This time, no immediate cancelation. A day or 2 later, I received another notice, this time that the establishment changed the time, only by 15 min, but still, such a hassle. Upon arrival, we get led down hallways, and downstairs, while we were told more about the place, and the timing. Finally getting to our table we were brought some spiced nuts, water and a menu. We ordered our first drink. Now, this place is like a club. The music is so loud. We basically had to lean in and yell to talk to each other. This caused another issue when my drink arrived, and the server lit the top on fire while telling some story, that we heard nothing of. The drinks were good, completely balanced, and very different. Now the server never again stopped by until our "last call" 15 min before our reservation ended. More drinks ordered...but had to rush before they brought the bill and said we had 5 min left. Well, maybe I had hyped myself up too much for this place, and honestly, it was a bit of a let down.
The place is small but very nicely decorated and lit. The drinks are served from a premade batch, which is very disappointing coming from “The best bar in the world”. They are also very short and kinda weak in the alcohol content for some reason. We ordered 3 drinks each and total sip time was 10 minutes. Which IMO is very bad for a 20 to 30 euros per cocktail. At this point I think the “Top 50 bars in the world” ranking is more a signal of a overhyped place than of quality
There’s a lot of hype to go here and I see why. The exclusivity is the main reason. The vibe was something else. The drinks however… not our thing. We tried 4 cocktails and none of them we even real…
