We had a fantastic experience at El Mercante despite some language barriers. The server provided the menu in English but neither our Italian nor his English was the greatest. The “starters” were part of the prix fix menu and included some pickled vegetables, fried mozzarella “shots”, cheesy potatoes, and a lovely charcuterie board. This was a lot of food, but it was all good and we took the leftovers with us. Next up we had a pasta with chunks of pumpkin, it was fantastic. Finally for the second I we had the veal which was very good. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and look forward to going back again to try the risotto!

Great place for dinner! I spend a few days around The Como Lake and this restuarant was the best! Nice and helpful staff, big portions (you can order a huge plate for 2-3 persons and after you'll be full),all of dishes prepared before serving, great desserts. I strongly recommend this place!

Wonderful place in a beautiful old building with great food. The terrible radio music (disco music from the 90s?) spoiled the atmosphere.

The food was decent. The portion sizes were huge – my girlfriend ordered two and shared one of the two starters, and it was enough for both of us. Then, two mains arrived that could feed four people. Initially, I thought the prices were high for Colico, but the portions explained that. The waiters didn’t mention the large portions, though they did offer a doggy bag, so they’re aware of the issue. Overall, good food, but be prepared for massive servings.

The restaurant has very good food, but: waiters do not speak English, menu cannot be understood in terms of pricing, quite expensive in the end, 40 EURO for 2 plates and no drinks.

Potatoes, cheese and more potatoes and more cheese… And no papers in the rest room. My individual experience was sad :( I see comments saying waiters do not speak English, but did anyone mention that they actually pretend as if they understand it. Communication issues and/or lack of common sense. Here is the short story: I asked for recommendation. I ended up ordering two starters and a main dish (served min 2) Too much food for a single person. And recommended main dish was nearly the same as the mixture of two starters :)) That waiter should be in love with potatoes and cheese. Note: I tried to clarify portion sizes beforehand but did not work out. +1 star, food was okay.

The food was terrible. I ordered salmon and I got Mac & cheese with a thin slice of smoked salmon on top, my wife ordered Tagliatelle con ossobucco and she got a pile of gristle with greasy pasta. Also,the place was a different location than as advertised, this one was in an industrial area and looked like a cheesy eatery inside.

I have not seen worse approach to customers for a long time. They let us sit to an empty table no sign, no contact. After 10 mins of waiting a waitress appears, starts manipulating with empty chairs around the table and then says: "There is a reservation". No excuse, no proposal, no plea or even info what do they expect from us. They do not deserve their customers, or I am from another planet, as well as all other Italians I met during last 3 weeks.
