Best meal I’ve had in a very long time. Highly recommend the buffet.
Large parking area, right off I-10, and large restaurant with tables and booths. The food was ok, not the best. Im rating this off my waitress, Arianna! She was welcoming and nice! Great person to be your server! They have old fashioned candy and jams, and fudge at the entrance. Salad bar is open, snd seemed pretty fresh.
Exceptional chicken fried steak. One of the best I've had in a very long time and am looking forward to coming back in the future. The atmosphere is rustic and cozy. The wait staff is attentive, but not breathing down your neck like at so many other places. Very well worth stopping for a meal while traveling along IH 10.
Our son is a football coach and told us we had to stop and eat at Shobel's and now we can't go through Columbus, Texas without stopping here! Their buffet is the best buffet we've ever had. It is always fresh, stocked, lots of choices and homemade! They also have a menu you can order from, if you don't want the buffet. The staff is always pleasant and attentive. They have jams, candy, candles and other items available for purchase in the lobby area. They also have shields around the buffet and gloves available, as well as hand gel on every table for guests to use. Great place to get a meal!
They don't make restaurants like this anymore! Food was home grown and cooked well. We are excited to go back!
This place is not only a great restaurant for locals it is also a wonderful spot for I-10 travelers. What they offer is just good old American comfort food. They do have menu service, but most go for the top notch buffet. The place is clean, the food is fresh and tasty, and the staff is courteous and friendly. Give this place a visit.
Friendly welcoming waitstaff (Mary) and greeter! Great homemade food on their buffet. Clean, well organized and stocked salad bar, soup, several main courses, fresh vegetables, potatoes and even pie! We felt it was a fair price and so much better than eating fast food! We are newly retired from Michigan, touring the country in our RV and we appreciate and thank you all for making this restaurant we will remember! Your quality and hard work shows!!! 😄
Stopped by on our way back from Galveston to San Antonio. Opted for their buffet and it was so good. Chicken was delicious and so was the stuffed pork loin, and all the sides. Loved their buttermilk pie so much that we ended up buying a whole one to take home. This will for sure be our stop every time we travel this way.
I have had excellent experiences breakfast lunch and dinner since they opened and today 1/9/2026
Schobel’s Restaurant is a fantastic place to enjoy a great meal in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Our waitress was incredibly patient and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed. The decor adds a unique charm to the experience, creating a cozy and inviting vibe. The food was delicious and had a unique touch that set it apart from other places. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavor. We truly enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back. Highly recommend!
I had their buttermilk pancakes. Tbe fluffiest most beautiful pancakes ever. The coffee was excellent and so was the service. IHOP who?
The best meatloaf I’ve ever had. It’s three hours one way from my house and I will be back, just for the meatloaf. Others in my group ordered off the menu and the portions were huge. Thanks for the great service and food. We will definitely be back
What a great place. We stopped in after tubing the Colorado. What a feast. Fried pickles, schnitzel and country fried chicken. Lotsa fried, but oh it was good good. Large portions, smelled like my grandmother's cooking and tasted like heaven. We had two enormous meals with apps and the bill still didn't get to $50.
The buffet the offer for lunch is fantastic. You have your choice different meats that are barbecued as well as an extra dish of fried catfish, probably the best I've had. Also they have shrimp and crawfish etouffee. A great solid bar and a wonderful desserts handmade. This is a Friday lunch so I'm not sure what the buffet is the rest of the week. Overall the restaurants clean including the bathrooms. I will be coming back with my family. Where's the price
Jamie was spectacular. She dodged around other crowded tables in order to take care of us promptly. She brought us extra condiments extra items we asked for huge smile through her mask. She even sent us a way with to go drinks.. who doesn't love that? :-)The chicken salad sandwich I would give five stars, the grown up grilled cheese my brother gives a thumbs up, the club sandwich my sweet Kimmy gives a thumbs up. The buttermilk batter fries are delicious, but they are not on our diet. I should have asked if they would substitute sliced tomatoes and or something else, maybe a small salad. Because I ate too many of them. :-) I give Jamie five stars. The reason why I don't give the restaurant five stars, is because, well, I gotta change my review to 5 stars! After thinking about it, the prices were decent, we were very happy to see a buffet, we thought we'd never see a buffet again... The place appeared to be very immaculately clean, the location was fantastic, with shady parking, and there was adequate parking for us to park our 80 ft get up. So okay okay, I'm going to change it to five stars. I would definitely go here rather than the Carl's Jr or the other fast food if you're getting off the I-10. We were seated quickly treated spectacularly. And as Kim said, our only complaint is that we were too full to have pie! :-) Omg, and they have a drive-up window for what we have no idea? But it looks awesome!
This Columbus staple has only gotten better over the years. I've grown up in Columbus my whole life eating breakfast/lunch after Sunday mass here was a must. All the renovations inside make this place really feel like home. We had the veggie omlet and The Usual both were great! The grits were nothing special though but the biscuits were amazing! If you're passing through definitely give this place a try.
Absolutely great experience. Will come here again (I also thought the live oak tree next to the building was beautiful)
This is the traditional, American/Texas cuisine restaurant that is known for it's excellent service, local beef and unique beef seasonings. If you want to know what Texas food used to taste like over 70 years ago (mouth watering vegetables, meat seasoned to perfection) then look no further. You have to stop here if you are on your way to either San Antonio or Austin!
Summary: excellent, recommended & would definitely eat here again when in the area. We stopped in for dinner Mon 4/8/24 (solar eclipse day) to kill some time due to the traffic still from San Antonio to Houston at 7pm. My sister got the Chicken Salad Sandwich, she picked fries - she said overall her dish "was pretty good". My hubby & I shared both dishes: ▪︎ Jalapeño Schnitzel, we picked the salad bar & squash casserole ▪︎ Club Sandwich (recommended by the waitress), we picked fries I piled our 1 small salad plate UP 😅 - even added some potato salad & coleslaw which was included in the salad bar. My hubby was pulling the beets out of the middle so was making a small mess, so I just spread out my napkin under the plate & deconstructed some of it so he could see the lower layers. It was all fresh & tasty. The star of the show was the Jalapeño Schnitzel with red cabbage (which was like sauerkraut) & squash casserole - the meat was unexpectedly tender & fried to perfection 👌 (not greasy nor heavy breading). The Club Sandwich was fresh & huge, even the fries were a little more than just basic fries. Everything was delicious. We happily had lots of leftovers. Next time I want to try the liver & onions and a pie. Please be aware that checking out can be a bit slow, the waitress gives you the bill & you pay up front at the cashier who is primarily the hostess busy seating parties (there was a line) so just got to be patient & wait.
A nice country vibe is always a fun experience. The wait staff was very polite and the food was tasty. We had to wait to be seated but it was very fast. The wait staff was very friendly. They had a small buffet that looked really decent. I ordered off the menu. My brother got pot roast and he loved it. I got the chicken fried steak and it was really good
This is one of the best country style restaurants in Texas! Fast and friendly service and the food is delicious! Especially the breakfast! You have to stop here if you are on your way to either San Antonio or Austin! This place does not disappoint! Family owned and operated and just one block north off of Interstate 10…
Used to stop here on our yearly vacation trips to New Braunfels from Sugar Land when I was a kid. We don’t take those trips anymore, so I sure miss eating there. It is a bit of a drive from Sugar Land, but I made the trip recently for a Sunday lunch. It brought back so many memories. I’m so glad this place is still here. It was very busy but we got seated right away. The fried chicken and sides from the buffet was delicious. The customer service was great. I plan on taking some more trips to eat there in the near future. It’s definitely worth the drive.
Stay away if you don’t want to leave with full happy potbelly! 😂 this is hands down wonderful place to eat especially during the lunch buffet. So many options to choose from and all the happiness your belly can desire. 🤗 we will be back!
Such a good place for breakfast or brunch. You can select between a menu or buffet. The buffet is really good and with many options. It stops at 10.30 and then they change everything in the buffet and prepare for lunch with the same two options. Coffee tastes better here. Clean place and nice crew. They also have some pickles for sale from a small business. Very recommended on your way to New Braunfels or San Antonio or way back to Houston.
We stopped in on our way to San Antonio - if you want the best next thing to home cooking it’s a must stop! I had the fried chicken - talk about Southern fried - tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside. Best German potatoes (a nice crunch on the outside, tender on the inside) and just the right amount of caramelized onions! I love how you can shave your own cheese at the salad bar! Everything was fresh and staff was super friendly.
We are visiting from Canada. Stopped in here after the Christmas parade. We had the absolute best coconut cream pie and key lime pie that we have EVER had. Incredible! You gotta check them out.
Excellent food at a very reasonable price. Very friendly waitress provided top notch service. Lunch buffet, with many excellent entrees, is only $12.95. The Wiener Schnitzel was excellent, super crispy breading with juicy tender pork. Many one person bathrooms for privacy. The Mens room has football jerseys and helmets from thr son who played at TCU. Lots of sweets and baked goods available for purchase at the checkout. This will be our new spot to stop on the way to Austin and the hill country.
Lovely pie and good coffee. We passed the buffet as we were seated, and the fried chicken and home-style cooked dishes smelled and lookedappetizing. From the huge crowd for late lunch, it must be good. My buttermilk pie had flaky crust, tasted tart and sweet in just the right proportions, and I was sad it was finished. I would return for the buffet that includes dessert, too. Pictures below of buffet and sale desserys.
The waitress was incredibly attentive and nice, and the chicken fried steak was really good, but the croutons at the salad bar were soft and stale.
Our waiter Brock was extremely professional and attentive. This was our first visit and we definitely will be returning. The fried chicken was fall off the bone delicious with the perfect crisp in very bite! The okra, green beans, Brussels sprouts and potatoes were all cooked to perfection. We opted for the buffet as it was our first visit and it did not disappoint!!!
This is a great place to eat in Columbus! We had burgers and the salad bar. Everything was fresh! Fresh baked bread for the buns, fresh meat, and vegetables. The servers are very friendly. I would definitely recommend it!
We're camping close by for a few weeks & have been here 3 times. Service has been excellent..lots of young staff. One time we were billed incorrectly (charged for a buffet, but ordered just the salad bar), but they were so busy we just let it go. Yummy BLT with chicken & rice soup (lots of rice). The best wiener schnitzel I've had in a long time...crispy on the outside, tender inside. 😋 And real good traditional red cabbage. Hubs said the fried chicken on the buffet was nice & crispy and he enjoyed all the other buffet offerings, including the buttermilk pie. A southern dessert that I've never seen on a restaurant menu! Cool! The other time he got catfish which came out hot & crispy...2 generous fillets. This is a good place to stop for comfort food if you're traveling on I-10.
We eat there about 6 times a year as we travel from east to west Texas. The food is great! Texas sized menu items. The jams they sell are wonderful too. If we lived closer we'd be in trouble. Don't pass this one up.
The food was amazing and huge portions. Pie was delicious and our waiter was great too. 10 out of 10 nightly recommend.
Stopped here for a light lunch. They have a buffet that looks really good, food looked fresh and appetizing. Didn't try the buffet but I would in the future. We tried some of the pies which we enjoyed. The cherry pie was topped with meringue which was a nice addition and flavorful. The staff was extremely nice, helpful and efficient. This is a old school family type restaurant and it was very enjoyable to find a place like this.
Got the buffet. Not bad at $13 .99. Very good buffet with large salad bar, several meat choices , breads, and desserts. The carrot salad was very good and all the salad items were fresh and crunchy. The best meat on the buffet to me was the fried catfish! Everything tastes good, like homemade comfort food. I will definitely be back.
Amazing find. Needed a quick bite of something simple but filling after a long drive and this was just the thing! Calm and quiet but you can feel the love. Sandwiches were absolutely stuffed and our server was sweet although she forgot a drink but we were fine nonetheless and reminded her which she fixed soon after.
My wife and I stop for lunch at Schobels every time we drive from Houston to the Austin area to visit our daughter and her family. Schobels offers a very nice lunch buffet for a reasonable price. We most recently stopped on a Friday and enjoyed, chicken, fried fish, bbq brisket and sausage along with a large salad bar and many fresh vegetables. Everything is great and make sure you save room for the desserts. Their pies are outstanding. My wife had her heart set on a slice of pecan pie, but we could not find one on the buffet. Our waitress came by and asked if we needed anything else. when I mentioned the pecan pie, she quickly said, "Hold on", and went back to the kitchen to get one for her. Great service.
We were traveling and noticed the signs for this restaurant. Since it was almost noon we stopped. I am so glad we did. Had the best piece of apple pie that I have ever had, and at age 84, that is saying something. We also met a wonderful family that lived nearby, and to our surprise, they had paid our check...
01.04.2026 - Everything was excellent, much better than we thought it would be. The atmosphere is a bit old-school, but really nice. The food is excellent & fresh. A great salad bar and the buffet is not big, but has quality food. It is wheelchair & walker friendly and there are plenty of tables.
Was on a business road trip from Austin to Houston for the dealership I worked at. Me and the coworker who were assigned to do the trip stopped here to eat and take a break. I ended up ordering a chicken sandwich and it was one of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had. It tasted traditional but with much of flavor and juiciness you expect from fine dining even though this place gave off Cracker Barrel vibes. The service was amazing and the atmosphere was relaxing and it was pouring rain outside. If I ever come to Columbus TX or be in a trip that passes by, I am stopping here to eat. I cannot wait to have a chance to go back once I have an opportunity to do so.
Very delicious everything was good. Had the breakfast and all was on point. Good coffee and poached eggs on the chicken fried steaks with the biscuits and gravy was outstanding. The homemade sausage was great. Good service and nice atmosphere. There was a buffet but I did not try it
I had a great experience at Schobel’s! I tried their buffet lunch, and everything was fresh and flavorful. The environment was nice and welcoming, perfect for a relaxing meal. I do wish drinks were included with the buffet, but overall, it was a solid dining experience. Definitely worth a visit if you’re passing through!
Schobel’s was great. We ran across it on our drive to San Antonio. We happened upon the end of the buffet (15 minutes until it was over). Even towards the end of the buffet, the foot was plentiful and fresh. They ran out of dark meat fried chicken and said just tell the waiter and she will accommodate, even after the buffet was over. The food offerings were home-style comfort food. It was delicious. If you’re ever in Columbus, TX, check it out.

Good menu of plated meals with generous servings, sandwiches, and burgers, plus a buffet option with several protein options, and a large (fresh) salad bar buffet, and several tasty-looking pies. Plenty of options for a satisfying meal. Service was good, as well. There's a small shop at the entrance selling fudge, bulk candies, and candles. Columbus was chosen as a halfway point to meet a friend for lunch. This was a good choice. Worth the trip.
1st time ever visiting the town of Columbus due to my job. However, it was time for lunch and I had passed it on the way to where I had to go, so I decided to give it a try. I didn't ask any of the workers about it from the office I was visiting because I didn't want any preconceived opinions on the establishment. When I got there they give you an option of menu or buffet. I tried the buffet because of time restraint. Y'all let me tell ya...when you want some really good down home cooking and you're driving through Columbus and you're trying to decide where you can eat that's good and not that expensive you better look it up! The people were friendly and the service was excellent! My waiter came and checked on me like I was a regular that comes all the time. It's a hidden gem before tou get to Austin off State Hwy 71.
Iwas excited to get German food for lunch as was my wife on a recent trip from Houston to San Antonio. While the German food entree selection was limited to a sausage plate and a few schnitzels, we nevertheless enjoyed our meals. First off, they had a buffet for lunch ($11.95) with a few entrees (fried chicken, meatloaf and bbq - no German food) and a variety of veggies and sides. However, I found the salad bar was amazing. It had a blend of lettuces as well as fresh spinach plus very fresh veggies. I enjoyed the cole slaw and German potato salad. I elected to just do a large salad bar ($7.95) and elected to forgo the hot foods since I inherited my wife's Jaegerschitzel. The Jaegerschnitzel ($12.95) was not what she expected in the traditional sense. We have had it where the pork is pounded thin, covered in bread crumbs and pan-fried and covered in a gravy with lemon to give it the tartness. In this case, she received a good size pork chop deep-fried like a chicken fried steak. The pork was about a half-inch thick and was extremely tender and tasty. As a fried pork chop, it was awesome. My other experiences with fried pork chops was a deep fried dry and tough piece of pork. Not here! I would easily order this again. My wife also felt that the red cabbage was bit too vinegary for her taste, overcooked, and lacked clove. She did say that the salad bar made up for it though. Just goes to show that you can't please everyone. Finally, I had to try their made fresh everyday apple pie ($3.95). It did not disappoint!
This place was good! The service amazing, friendly, fast, the buffet may need a little more options but it was still good! Just a great atmosphere and friendly staff.
Quick stop for dinner while trekking east on I-10. Buffet has tasty veggies and salad. For $21.95 it was well worth the price - salad, entrees and dessert.
I hadn't dined here in years. I was passing by and thought I'd stop in for a quick lunch. I opted for the lunch buffet. The food was fresh and tasted good. All I had was some salad, vegetables, and chicken. My server was friendly and so were the other folks working there. I love coming here. I always feel comfortable dining here.
Family-run Columbus institution with solid country fare. Came in for a hot breakfast on a cold rainy morning. The Usual with bacon had healthy portions and the Texas Pecan waffle had plenty of pecans in every bite. The link sausage had a little zip to it, maybe locally made? Cristina was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. Very pleasant breakfast experience…No complaints.
Got the soup with a slice of pie. The soup was unfortunately very salty, almost to a point of being inedible, i probablyneed to come again for a full meal to pass judgement on the regular food - on the other hand the pie was extraordinary! I got the coconut one and enjoyed every piece. Would recommend this place for your next pie fix.
Very very clean and hospitable. One of our families favorite comfort food spots. Very kids friendly w lots of goodies they any kid would want to try at the front counter, even adults. Salad bar is so well stocked. You even have to slice your own cheese from a huge block. I had the fried catfish, and okra w buttermilk fries. So very tasty.
Super cute local restaurant. Got all kinds of baked goods, candy, honey, and other treats to take home. They run a buffet stuffed full of comfort food. The guys I was with had it, said it was great. I had the burger, it was solid, not awesome. Excellent service, friendly staff, all the extras looked awesome but I didn't get anything. It was tempting though.
Good country cooking with Eastern European influences. You can truly taste the towns history here. That cook was in there showing off. I absolutely fell in love with the fresh warm Sauerkraut. Friendly staff. Only 1 hiccup; it took 10-15 min for the hostess to show up. As a result, a very long line if hungry people appeared very quickly. Turns our she took a bathroom break. It was weird because the rest of the staff just kind of stared at us instead of helping. There is a salad buffet and menu to order from. Prices are reasonable. I think more restaurants need to learn from them by having a bathroom on both sides of the restaurant. (Love the handicap friendliness)
This restaurant has been around for a very very long time. I have been to it many times in the last 20 years. If you order from the menu, you will receive excellent German food. At lunch, they have a buffet with many choices, including lots of salad choices as well as vegetables and different kinds of meat. Everything is super well prepared. Because it is an old school restaurant, the decor is old fashioned. Hence, the three stars on atmosphere. The service at the buffet was very good. The food, whether it's off the menu or the buffet, is very well prepared and reliable.
Decent salad bar with a hilight on the giant block of cheddar that you get to grate your cheese from. The dressings were sub par compared to many restaraunt dressings. The ranch tasted like it was made with miracle whip, which I am not a fan of and is rarely used for ranch dressing. The potato soup was salty and not very creamy. It was more like cream of chicken Campbell's soup with chunks of potato. My grandmother loved the liver and onions, though she would have preferred the liver not breaded. The highlight of the meal was the squash casserole. Delicious! Make sure to get there earlier in the day for the buffet.
Saw this place on Google, and my mom loved the picture of the salad bar, so that's where we ended up for dinner. The salad bar was ok. There weren't many items for a salad for me. Especially with having one trip and the size of the plate. You have to choose a salad or a couple of the other cold salads on the bar. They have 3 options for the salad bar. The buffet, which is the entire buffet. Then you have one trip or unlimited trips for $1 more. The giant block of cheese separated what you can and can't have. I looked over the salad bar before we ordered and was considering it until I found out it was $18. There weren't enough options for me of things I would eat to pay that price. I instead ordered chicken strips that came with one trip to the salad bar, and my spouse got the fried chicken and chose the soup over the salad bar. The fried chicken was amazing! Seasoned very well, crispy and so juicy. Absolutely cooked to perfection. The soup was good as we're the green beans. Would come back just for the chicken. The chicken strips were another story. The portion was astounding! I couldn't believe how much I received in a single portion. After tasting the fried chicken, I couldn't wait to try the strips. They weren't even comparable. They were so overcooked that they were almost like jersey. When our server came over to ask how everything was, my mom was going to tell her, and I said no. She then asked if my strips were overcooked. I said yes, and she chose a combative response and stance. She then asked if we wanted a manager, and I almost said yes because she became so hostile about it. I would come back for the fried chicken in a heartbeat. Not the buffet or the strips.

Good lunchtime buffet, good choice of food at a reasonable price, good atmosphere and good service. Also the dessert’s are lovely.
Had breakfast here on 10/24. Good Chicken Fried Steak, biscuits, gravy and creamy grits. Wife had the pecan waffle and it was excellent. Portions were huge. Good service and clean establishment…
I ate here for the first time last night with my family- 6 in total. Looking forward to a new place. We made our order and didn’t do the buffet because most items didn’t appeal to us. It wasn’t busy when we first came in. Nothing overly complicated, besides a plain and dry burger. As we were waiting we were right by the waitress station. No one stopped to tell us timelines or offer refills. When only 4 meals came and an appetizer only minutes earlier, nothing was said about the other meals. I asked for refills which cups were obviously empty. As staff was rushing by we asked about the other orders now that it was clear they weren't coming…. We all the sudden were meant as if we were an inconvenience. 1 meal came. Then still waiting for the hamburger….other tables got hamburgers order and sat well after us. Then it came with cheese and my child very hungry just started crying. Again nothing was said. Then a ticket was handed over. Sadly it was not the experience we expected. But had a conversation happened instead of being left with no information. It would have been appreciated. It is the first time we have ever not left a tip. But again the dynamic changed dramatically at the end and it was truly not enjoyable. The bill was around $120 so not a cheap evening out.
Drove through this part of town on our way home. Came in expecting great things but left disappointed. We stood behind two guys in line to be seated. We were making jokes on how long it was taking. Cashier was checking ppl out and a couple of waitresses walked by. No one acknowledged us! Finally a WAITRESS came to seat the two men before us-20 minutes on our clock but not knowing how long it was for them. We were seated by another blonde girl who asked if we are waiting to be seated. Duh! We are at the “Wait to be seated “ podium! She seated us but stated the menus were sticky so went to get other ones. The restaurant was not that busy and we wondered why it took so long to be seated!!?? I literally counted 4 tables with people and 5 tables that were dirty. Yes, a few people left for we saw them check out, but those tables all around our table were not clean. Could we not have been seated somewhere not as messy? Finally our waitress comes out to take our order. Nothing fancy. We ordered chicken salad sandwich and fried chicken sandwich with fries. 2 sandwiches! 15 minutes later I get my platter with fries and chicken salad sandwich. It was delicious. Thank God! Waitress told my spouse he would have to wait a few minutes for his fried chicken sandwich, because the cook didn’t “drop it to be fried yet”. 10 minutes later; Ended up giving my spouse the other 1/2 of my fries and sandwich because his didn’t come out in a timely manner. At this point we didn’t see our waitress again. So, we asked the busboy to get our waitress to inform that we are not needing the FC sandwich, which she stated it should be out very soon. But at this time we both have finished the one meal. Kudos to the busboy cleaning all the messy tables quickly once he came out!
If you want a super filling down home buffet, this is the place! Charming old school buffet with heavy emphasis on cold salads, pasta salads etc, and a ginormous block of cheese from which you can scrape off a slab, a slice or chunk-a - if you hanker for a hunk-a cheese. (IYKYK) The fried catfish was terrific, but no fresh lemons or even tartar sauce, which confused me. Desserts were meh at best, gumbo was not fantastic. Service was excellent, all and all it was just “nice” and not quite a bargain.
Went for lunch and had the buffet (about $15 for 1 person). The food was ok. The salad was fresh but the blue cheese dressing was tasteless. The corn bread muffins were dry. The beef was also dry, but nicely smoked. I don't normally eat bottom fish, but the catfish was tasty. Not a fan of their gumbo or etouffee. Their sign on I10 west stated that I deserve pie. I saw that sign and agreed with it, I do deserve pie. When it was time for dessert and I saw all the people around me eating pie I went to the desert area of the buffet and there was nothing but cake. I asked for pie. I waited for pie for 15 minutes. I was told that I could order pie from the waitress but they would charge me for it. It must be a different pie than the pie they serve on the buffet. I was quite upset about this. It is for this reason that they have lost a fourth star and I rated them as three. The schobels are a big family which is made a point of with the family photos on the wall. There are lots of treats to purchase and Jarred Goods as well. I didn't think for the price that it was worth it. I doubt that I would return. There simply wasn't anything on the buffet that was extraordinary really tasty that would make me want to come back. I would suggest ordering off the menu, which I'm sure is much better than the buffet.
The food was just okay. The salad bar was really good but there was food from neighboring items mixed in, i.e. egg salad mixed in with black olives. The meal was huge! I have Southern Fried Chicken dark meat, with Buttermilk dipped fries. Chicken was really good but greasy. French fries were really different. Wife had Jaeger Schnitzel with onions, red cabbage and mashed potatoes. She hated the cabbage. Her schnitzel was just okay. The waitress, Abby S., was really good and kept our water and coffee filled. No complaints there.
Had the buffet. Selection was ok. Veggies were good. I made the mistake of eating the buffet without asking the cost. I had one piece of chicken and small portion of rice and beef tips, corn, mashed potatoes along with a glass of iced tea. I was shocked at the cost of over $26.
I recently had dinner here at this well known restaurant in Columbus. It's been here for a long time and I expected a good meal.\n\nI decided on the flounder almondine for $23.\nSchobels offers a sal…

Ate there on a Friday night with less than 25 people seated. Saw 4 waitresses plus greeter/cashier and bus person. Salad bar was ok but the rest of the buffet was nothing to be excited about. Stale, lukewarm/catfish with no cocktail sauce and cold, hard rolls with no butter, to name the most disappointing. Waitress took quite a while to see we were needing assistance and longer to actually bring them to the table. We had almost finished eating by then. Food was very expensive and unfortunately not worth it!! Not much of a Golden Corral fan but the food there has always been warm and tasty. I do not recommend!!
My burger was excellent! No doubt. But... 1. The fries were cold and dry 2. The chicken noodle soup tasted more like a vegetable soup 3. The club sandwich came without ham, which makes it a turkey sandwich...I mean, the club was the whole reason to stop Apart from the food, the service was slow, too slow at our table where others were near-constantly attended to, so much so we had the opportunity to notice how gaudy the wagon wheels look. We packed up the sandwiches, paid, and left. I'm sorry I recommended this spot to my companions because it should have been a great experience, but they felt...less.
The service was wonderful. However because of the food I would not recommend. I really wanted to love it but the quality and taste of the buffet items was poor.
We didn't know Columbus had a greasy spoon, but for breakfast this is it. Ordered the Usual. Eggs small, sausage and hashbrowns greasy, greasy. coffee tasted like hot water. Service was atrocious…
My husband and I are staying in Columbus for a few days. This restaurant had good reviews so we decided to try it. The salad bar had no lettuce. I ordered a margarita which was basically water wi…
The steak I was served at schobels was honestly one of the most unpleasant meals I’ve ever paid for. From the moment it arrived at the table, something felt off. Instead of looking freshly cooked and appetising, the steak had a dull, greyish tone with patches of uneven browning, as if it had been cooked long ago and reheated without care. There was no enticing aroma just a faint, greasy smell that immediately put me off. Cutting into it only made things worse. The texture was wrong from the first slice: tough in some areas, oddly mushy in others, and clearly not rested or cooked properly. It didn’t have that satisfying resistance a good steak should have; instead, it felt like chewing on damp cardboard mixed with rubber. Each bite required far too much effort, and even then it broke apart in an unpleasant, stringy way. The taste was the worst part. Rather than being rich, savoury, or even mildly seasoned, the flavour was overwhelmingly bland with a strange, stale aftertaste that lingered far too long. It tasted as if the meat itself was low quality or poorly handled, and no amount of sauce could mask that underlying grossness. The fat, which should have added flavour, was slimy and unrendered, leaving a greasy coating in my mouth. By the time I’d forced myself through a few bites, my appetite was completely gone. Instead of enjoying a meal, I felt disappointed and slightly nauseous, questioning how a steak could be served in such a state. For something that’s meant to be a highlight on the menu, this steak was genuinely gross badly cooked, poorly textured, and deeply unsatisfying. It turned what should have been a simple, enjoyable meal into a regrettable experience I wouldn’t want to repeat. but the sprite was nice and so was the people. - da bois
