Yama Sushi is a popular late-night spot known for its high-quality sushi and friendly staff, especially Mai. While most enjoy the food and atmosphere, some have experienced inconsistent service and occasional issues with specific dishes like the US Waygu buns.

Tip: Yama is open very late, making it a great option for after-party dining. Be aware that it can get very busy, especially after 11 PM.

Yama has always been on the top of our list! We literally daydream of the fish quality and experience. We always feel as though we get exceptional service and food every visit. There typically is a wait at the weekend but it’s worth it. This place is a gem everything from the sushi bar is phenomenal. For hot options we highly recommend the hamachi-kama ( takes time to prepared but delicious) pork cheeks, chicken hearts and Japanese curry!!
Had a wonderful experience with our server Mai. We came out after being stuck on the house during the Dallas winter storm. Mai took such good care of us. Asked me and my husband about when we got married and actually seemed interested in us. Such a sweet gesture! She helped me choose the choturo sashimi, the 5 treasure sashimi, chicken ramen, and encouraged us to get the seared salmon belly. It was so good we made two more orders of the salmon belly! Thank you for the amazing food and service. Shoutout to Mai!
For being open late this would have been excellent food. But open late or not this place slaps. Super cool vibe, everyone coming in after the party and just vibin. Excellent quality fish, and preparation was top notch by my fellow raza in the kitchen. Hidden gem for sure
Really great “hole in the wall” sushi and Japanese restaurant. We ate here on a Saturday night before the place gets super packed. I’ve heard after 11PM or so, this place gets bumpin’. I loved their menu - the prices are great and you can get small, shared bites and try a bit of everything. We tried a couple of sushi rolls, the hamachi, a steamed pork belly bun, the pork belly dish, a couple of skewers. We also had a drink each. Our entire meal was around $100 (with tip), and we left full and happy! I would definitely be back!
So much good packed in to an unassuming strip mall. Oh and they’re open until 2a! To call Yama Sushi a dive is not accurate although it may feel like one. This is the real deal with no frills or fancy decor just excellent food and super service. I was skeptical when walking up but when the doors opened I knew I was in for a treat. Somehow it was Happy Hour but then again maybe every hour is happy here. We ordered a pitcher of beer and sake along with the Pork Belly $3, Spicy Edamame $6, and Spicy Cucumber $5 while we mapped out our culinary adventure. Some Shrimp Tempura $10.50, a 5 Treasure roll $17, Sashimi 7 $60, and a couple more rolls along with more beer and we were pleasantly full. The presentation was good and the fish was great. I’m impressed and am looking forward to my next visit.
Always good food - the grilled Squid takes a bit longer than the other food to come out but it's worth it. I like that I can order a small version of their Ramen, this is my first time getting their Ramen and it was good! Spicy chili tonkatsu Ramen was delightful. The cream soda is melon soda plus vanilla ice cream which is awesome. Love it 😀
Moved away for a bit but I’ve always missed my Yama! Been coming here for years and I still love it, I have had so many great experiences here. And my friends and family love it as well. My favs are the grilled squid, chicken karaage, seafood creamy udon, and tempura udon. Hope you guys enjoy just as much as I do!
Sometimes I wake up craving sushi at midnight, and I am happy I found this restaurant. Made it for happy hour and tried a few pieces of sushi ($1.50 each) and some rolls and everything was delicious. It is on the smaller side inside, maybe 40 seats if that including the bar, but I love quaint restaurants. Service was great even though they were packed, and the food came in a decent amount of time too. The pozu had a little more bite to it then I am used too and the ell sauce wasn't as sweet (50 c each) but I really didn't need any extra sauce. The fish was fresh and the rice was delicious. Spent about $45 before tip on 3 rolls and a plate of sushi. I don't want to recommend too much, since I don't want it to get super packed and popular, but I will definitely be back soon.
We have to start off with the bad. The US Waygu buns were terrible. Absolutely no flavor or seasoning on the patty. Definitely regret ordering especially seeing how it was $6 a bun. Avoid this. The Agedashi Tofu was okay. I have had better, the flavor was just not hitting. The sushi wasn’t amazing but it was still definitely good. Worth going. I enjoy my spicy scallops. My gf fav rolls were the mackerel and the eel roll. But the absolute best thing we order were the skewers. They were super flavorful and delicious!!! You have to order them. I would also like to add that they have a big menu with different varieties such as ramen, curry dishes, bento boxes and more! Will have to come back to try the other items. Overall it was good but besides the bad things mentioned above another thing is that I felt the prices did not match the amount of food we received, for example the skewers. Price to food ratio was not proportionate. Maybe over charging a little. So really the true rating I would give is like a 3.7 starts out of 5.
It's a small restaurant, so seating a large group of us took a while which was understandable. Once we did get seated, it did take a while to place our order and longer to get our food. We ate a lot of sushi and all of it tasted fresh and made your want more. I would definitely go again, but would try going earlier as we were there just over 3 hours for dinner.
Great place to come for affordable sushi at happy hour. I thought the portion of the fish was smaller than expected and some of the fish was better than others. But the servers were always available and this place was pretty busy. I definitely got my fill for less than what can spend at other sushi restaurants.
Ive been coming to Yama for 2+ years and We love it absolutely our favorite late night Restaurant to go to. Food is always delicious and the atmosphere is always a vibe. The only flaw that Ive experienced is one specific waiter with a bowl cut and new balances… Every single time we come to dine in, he gives us the nastiest attitude and does the most pettiest service. He will sit us down and leave our table unattended for 10 minutes and wont ever come to even ask if he want something to drink. We always have to ask the other servers who I will say are so lovely and amazing. They care so much about their guests but its just this one waiter. He will deliberately ignore us and walk past us after glancing at us even if we are in his section. He really does discriminate between me and my partner even though the off chances he isnt feeling petty and serves us we always tip 20% . The worst time was on my partners birthday, when he would pass by and we asked him for something, mind u he passes us and keeps it pushing. I love Yama and the wait staff but this one waiter does really make my rating for this restaurant go down. Even if he gave us the worst service we would still tip to support the restaurant. I just dont understand why he is always giving us such a nasty attitude and pettiness. Other than his rudeness, I honestly give this restaurant 5 stars and (hopefully i dont butcher this) Minh and Luis are awesome servers and would blow your experience off the roof. they are amazing and always a pleasure to see. food is 10/10 (wasabi fries + gyoza dumplings are bomb)
"I used to come here as a last-resort spot, but I’m officially done. The food is mediocre at best—the sushi is consistently chewy and lacks freshness. Even worse is the service; the staff is unprofessional and dismissive. I’ve been seated and left ignored for 30 minutes just to get a water order. Specifically, the woman and the man with glasses were incredibly rude. Save your time and money."
If I could give this place a negative 0 I would! Yesterday a friend and myself went to this establishment and were treated horribly by the staff. We were notified that they were doing last call which was totally fine. When our sushi arrived we kindly asked them for spicy mayo and they refused to give us any of the sauce because “it was last call, and the tablets were down” mind you we only asked them for sauce and we told them we would just pay for the sauce in cash in the tip and they still refused to give us sauce. They also refused to give us the number to corporate as well as the manager of the place. I would like to add my friend and I were the only black people in this establishment and I could not help but to feel that this was racially motivated. This is absolutely unacceptable and I would advise anyone of color to never go to this establishment and do not give them your money!!!! The entire ordeal was absolutely disgusting and ridiculous. I will never return back to this restaurant again!!!!
Came here to have a nice dinner with some friends but our waitress with a bob cut was very rude and showed biased service. She made a mistake on our order which is completely fine and normal but then proceeds to argue with us saying that we told her the wrong order. And I quote "YOU said you wanted..." and it was in a very nasty tone and even glaring at our friend. Keep in mind she repeated our order to us too. After we got our food never received any check ups or follow ups. However we saw her checking in with other tables behind us and smiling. She needs to be evaluated on customer service. Keep in mind our whole entire table are current servers so we are usually patient. This type of server behavior is unheard of. If you come here I hope you get the service she gave to the table behind us.
Use to love coming here, came again tonight and the server we had was awesome. Super kind gentleman with longer hair, but the other waiter was extremely rude, we didn't even ask her for the check and there were tables that were there longer than we were. Felt rushed out the door.
Yall look at this! They straight played in our face. Haven't been here in a minute but we will never come back. Our rolls was very small compared to others at the restaurant, compared to past visits and compared to other places. Yall really need to do better. Another thing while waiting for our food its really not a comfortable wait seating area it needs improvement. I'm $40 out and still hungry.
Came in around 1:20AM after a late night photo shoot. The lady was rude and rushed me to place my order. Understandable I guess since they closed in 40 mins? I ordered “to-go” since she was practically upset I came in. Got my food pretty quick and decided to pop a squat at a table and start on my sushi. She came and literally told me to get up and leave since I ordered to go?? She said they have a policy that “if you order to-go you cannot eat inside”. I looked around and saw a couple of patrons eating out of their to-go containers. Extremely ridiculous. And yep I was the only “other” in there. Enjoy a pic of me eating sushi in my car.
