Quaint live music made it feel so much like home. Loved the atmosphere. Wish they had more than wine drinks but the wine based margarita was still pretty authentic flavored. Menu was outstanding! Food was on point! Gator tails and blackened grouper...yum!
This was a spur of the moment "let's find a close by seafood place to eat at" kinda visit. I located Frilly's through Google and yelp searches and saw they had pretty good reviews so we gave them a try. When we walked in we were immediately greeted and seated. They had a gentleman playing live music who was doing an absolutely wonderful job. He was putting his own charismatic twist on well known songs, wasn't so loud you couldn't talk to people at your own table, honestly the best kinda live music. We ordered some hishpuppies, fried pickles, and gator bites to start. Great appetizers to get the meal going. Everything was cooked perfectly. I ordered the Blackened salmon with the st. Andrew's sauce. My lord, it was mouth watering. The salmon was cooked beautifully, the sauce perfectly complemented the blacked seasoning. I really can't describe just how delicious this dish was. I can't even remember what everyone else ordered because I was so focused on my dish. I can confirm everyone enjoyed their meals though! My dad confirmed he is now a fan for life and will definitely be back! L be making a point to visit everytime I'm in Texas now.
The food is really good. I especially enjoyed the hush puppies with the jalapenos. Unfortunately, there's only one location and it's on Univ Dr. Please expand and build one in the 76210 zip on Teasley down by Kroger / Chase Bank / Wells Fargo Bank.
Catfish spicy hush puppies, fried zucchini, fried pickles. It's all good.
Last night was our first visit. We tried everything from poppers to gumbo to blackened fish to jumbo shrimp brochette. Everything was excellent. Our server, Elijah, was helpful and engaging. We are spreading the word and bringing friends on our next visit.
Their chicken stripe were great they had a little spice to them was just the right amount!
First time here, I had it once through catering. I’ve been looking for a good Cajun restaurant for a while and this place didn’t pop up for some reason. The Boudin and Crawford tails were fresh and flavorful. The staff was nice and attentive. The place was pretty empty when we went. Even though it was a Monday, they should have more business, a real hidden gem.
Really enjoyed this place! Wife and I went and had the blackened catfish, etouffee, seafood fondue, crab cakes, lobster bisque, clam chowder, and everything was really good! Definitely coming back since we barely even cracked this menu. Taylor, our waitress and Veronica, the manager were so sweet and nice as well. Really made our night!
Frilly's has THE BEST Fried Catfish! Fried to PERFECTION! Not over-cooked. Fried JUST RIGHT! Absolutely LOVE IT! And the pieces are HUGE! They are always friendly when I visit there! I would 100% Recommend! Can't wait to try their dessert!
This was my first time at Frilly’s and I was not disappointed! The food was great and I can’t wait to come back and try more from the menu. I got the Pasta Mardi Gras and it was delicious! Kaleah was our server and she did great at recommending different options for our group based on preferences and desired spice levels. Thanks Kaleah for great service!! I also appreciated that the bathrooms were very clean!
Frillys is one of the premier cajun restaurants in the DFW area. They are well established and are a staple on the Denton food scene. I typically order the gumbo and the gator. They are both delicious and hearty!! My other favorite is the Crawfish 3 ways!! Dessert is also a well balanced finish for any dish!! Come to Denton and try the best Cajun food this side of the river!
Great Chicken fried steak. Awesome with Pontchartrain sauce on top! Fried ochre was great too! Catfish and Étouffée excellent
The food was WONDERFUL! The people are incredibly nice! One waitress discussed for and etc with us. The manager came to adjust the table for us. They were all awesome. Love this place!
The seafood platter was excellent. The crab cakes were divine. The only exception was the cheesecake. I expected a good NY style baked cheesecake and it was a no bake in a graham cracker crust. It was still good, but could have been better.
I love the dim atmosphere the price of food and the taste of the food was delicious and not too greasy
Frilly's Seafood Bayou Kitchen is the spot for amazing Cajun food. Everything on the menu is packed with authentic flavor, and the quality is always top-notch. It’s clear they know what they’re doing in the kitchen. The owners are genuinely great people who make you feel welcome every time you walk in. They’ve put a lot of care into the place, and it shows. The recent renovations are a huge upgrade, making the restaurant even more inviting and comfortable. Great food, great people, and a great atmosphere—Frilly's is a must-visit
Best gumbo ever😋😋!! The young guy who took my order was so respectful and patient as I tried to figure out what I wanted from the menu.
The real deal if you Louisiana fare. Aligator, crawfish, gumbo, and great sauces.
"Authenically Cajun, like back home!" Per my Cajun companion from Jefferson Parish. I enjoyed it too. We will definitely return as, often as possible. Shrimp Po Boy was stacked high with a generous amount of shrimp.
the food was good but enough of that. our server elijah was so nice and quick to help us! if you get the chance to have this handsome man of a server thank ur lucky stars, he’s very attentive and well mannered, and his timing was literally perfect every time he came to check on us. if you decide to go i’d recommend him as your server. (i’d also recommend the blackened catfish and etouffee combo)
I love this place! We have been coming here for years. In an age where you can hardly ever find good service, you will find it at Frilly's. The Cajun food is amazing. They also have a great guy (Joe, I think) that plays live Dixieland music as a one-man-band every Friday. We try to go as much as we can on Fridays, as his music adds to the whole atmosphere and makes a great place even better!
What a FIND! The food was outstanding - flavor packed & great price. The service was excellent thanks to, Emma . She was super sweet & personable. Also, the man playing the music was a whole one man show, absolutely killed it with the harmonica. Haven’t had an experience like this in a long time! Thank you
Friendly lunch staff and helpful with suggestions. The calamari was crispy and tender, the catfish po-boy was delicious and blackened grouper with dirty rice was 👨🍳.
The staff were patient as we looked over the menu, kind as we ordered and had my margarita ready as we sat down. All appetizers (Fried mushrooms and alligator tails) and food (CAJUN COMBO: Blackened catfish & crawfish étouffée served with white riceBlackened catfish with crayfish Et Touffe) came out piping hot and was so very good. Everything was seasoned perfectly! I tried to go pay for a pop and they told me happy birthday and gave it to me for free. The ambiance at Frilly's was really cool and comfortable. Such a wonderful birthday late lunch out with my boyfriend 💕!
Excellent place, and spectacular food!!! I’ve eaten here so many times and always the same exceptional quality!!!!
Food was outstanding. I grew up near the bayous of Louisiana and learned to like Cajun cooking MANY years ago. It was as good as you would expect from a Cajun kitchen. The young lady who waited on me was very nice and attentive. As for atmosphere, I went there to eat!!!! The food was hot. The beer was cold. I don't need a floorshow.
Frilly's is a little hidden gem in Denton that we used to drive by all the time before knowing about it and now has become one of our favorite spots in town. The food is absolutely amazing and very flavorful. We weren't sure being in Texas but the cajun style is so delicious. All of the staff we've ever encountered have been super friendly and service has always been speedy. I also think you get a large amount of food for a reasonable price. 10/10 recommend!
Who would have thought great seafood is in Denton? The Cajun flair is an added bonus. The mahi mahi was just as good as something I would have gotten along the gulf coast. It was cooked well and the cream sauces were so good. Boudin, dirty rice and cornbread were all great. Drinks were good too at a good price. One of my favorite places in Denton so far. We’ll be back!
First time dining here after searching for a new place to frequent. Food was spot on perfectly prepared. Our waitress Kaleah was the best and took care of us from start to finish. Oysters on half shell were cold and fresh, Fried Grouper sandwich was amazing and the pasta Mardi Gras was more like a desert than an entree it was so good! For sure plan to go again very soon. Dallas Blonde on tap was a bonus. Thanks again Kaleah for the awesome service!
Been here a few times to enjoy the crawfish trio, gator tail, and swamp fries. Absolutely yummy and reasonably priced items. Clean and inviting atmosphere with good customer service. Only thing that I am confused about is, why "crabmeat stuffed jalapenos" are called "Cajun Alligator Eggs"? :-)
Our first visit and we had Seafood Fondue, fried mushrooms, clam chowder, crab bisque, shrimp and grits, and Shrimp Brochette, and fried butterfly shrimp. So we tried a lot and it was all wonderful! The service was great. We have found our new place for seafood!!
Frillys is THE place to go to! Whether you like seafood or just regular chicken, you can never go wrong with Frillys! If you’re new to town, try it. If you have been living in Denton and never had it, try it. It’s one of the best places I ever had and you will not be disappointed
The Cajun combo was delicious! I came here with a group of 8 or so for a work lunch, and service was still quick, and the etoufee was awesome.
Really good food, good portions, quick service on a Saturday night. Crawfish combo was as good or better than Papadeaux, in my opinion. Wife had jambalaya and was happy with it.
Blackened Catfish and Crawfish Etoufee with dirty rice is legit!! Excellent portions. Wife had the chicken tenders and said they were a 5 out of 5 with the perfect amount of breading. Light breading and alot of chicken.
I went with 3 others. We all ordered different dishes. All of us absolutely loved everything on our plates. That was our first time there and we only sampled a small part of the menu, but the chicken tenders, popcorn shrimp, catfish filet, and crayfish combo were definitely good enough to make us want to go back for seconds. The chicken tenders weren't procesed like you get from a regular fast food joint. They were real pieces of real chicken. Nothing was dried or overcooked. It was all properly seasoned to our taste. By that I mean it was a perfect blend of spices for the meat. It wasn't too much that it drowned out the taste of the fish or chicken. I would have given them 5 stars based on what we ate, but there was so much more on the menu that we haven't tried yet that I felt it would be unfair to you to rate them based on what we didn't eat. I'll leave that up to you.
Drove past numerous times and finally dropped in to see what was on the menu. The staff was beyond courteous and accommodating. The food… authentic and delicious. I was so excited to know there was a place to get gumbo that wasn’t too far from my home. We ordered a lot to try a variety of dishes and everything was good. I’ll be back for certain to try the frog legs and listen to the live music. Added more food pics from another visit.
Grace (GH) was a very pleasant waitress from my experience. Her personable ways of handling us was quite refreshing. We chose meals from her suggestions and those plates were amazing. Everyone we encountered were very kind and welcoming. The restaurant is always clean from the front to the back. I was really impressed with the cleanliness of the restrooms as well.
The food and service was excellent. I had the crème brûlée and it was really good. The oysters and a half shell equally good. I recommend they replace the lighting in the restaurant. The cam lights are too bright and the ceiling fan lights are flickering. I would have been excited to stay and watch the tourist. I saw him warming up and it looked like it was gonna be quite the show. I will have to come back for more. Trinity was a great server, very kind and helpful.
This place is super. Food was so very good and hot. Our waitress checked on us frequently she was super nice and helpful. Recommended wonderful choices. And their calamari with warm dip was the perfect starter for us. I thought they would have a few more choices. But our table was clean they made us comfortable and made sure our food was brought out in plenty of time and drink refills were quick. Will definitely go back again. My hubby got the blackened fish and I got the seafood pasta so great. I don't remember the names sorry. But man we left full and happy. You need to go try it for yourself!!!!
We’ve passed by Frilly’s Seafood Bayou Kitchen so many times while driving down 380, and we finally decided to stop in today—and wow, what a great decision that was! The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff made us feel right at home with their friendly service. Everything about our visit exceeded our expectations. We totally recommend Frilly’s Seafood Bayou Kitchen to anyone craving great seafood and a great experience. You won’t be disappointed!
Visited this southern food place in search of crawfish! Ordered the crawfish combo which came with fried crawfish and crawfish étouffée. The étouffée was cooked to perfection with right seasoning and veggies. There was generous portion of the little crawfish. The fried crawfish was soft, light and delicate and was cooked correctly. I enjoyed the seasonal crawfish and also got adventurous and tried alligator tail which was the appetizers. For those who are curious about the taste and texture of alligator tail. Alligator tail had the texture of chicken thighs and tasted like grilled sea bass with a very neutral taste. I tried it for the first time and will order again if this delicacy is offered at other places. Highly recommend Frilly’s to anyone visiting Dallas Fort Worth Area
Our son likes the fried shrimp. I enjoyed my blackened Mahi Mahi, the shrimp and grits was OK. Shrimp was seasoned well but the grits were grainy and not seasoned.
My son and I stopped here after a motorcycle ride. We ordered oysters on the half shell, crab bisque, crab cakes, and frog legs. Everything was very tasty. I know seafood is pricey, but I would have thought lunch portions would have been a little cheaper, but overall we were pleased. We will return to try some other things next time.
All of our Food was hot and had really good flavor. We had fried pickles and a bowl of Gumbo for appetizers. Then 3 different entrees that were all great and even brought home a desert.
Good gumbo. Very good gator tail and fries. Good oyster on the half. Very good blackened catfish and crawfish etouffe. Friendly service if a little slow, but we arrived just as dinner rush started. They got busy quick! Parking lot was full by the time we left. We will be back for sure.
We had appetizers alligator tail..fried mushrooms & jalapenos which were good..Entrees were frog legs..catfish & shrimp..and seafood fondue everything was flavorful and tasty..Service was great with an attentive waitress
The crawfish topping on both my wife's and my dish tasted a tad fishy (one star off for that). Not cool. The sauces and catfish, grouper and crawfish though were all cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning. The atmosphere was loud but not obnoxious. Our server was juat outstanding, Amelia(?), I think. She was able to juggle a very large, loud, party next to us and still take good care of us. Not 100% sure we will go back. The fishy tasting crawfish, despite being cooked to the perfect tenderness, was a turn-off
Food was really good! However, portions were rather small. Adding French bread or hush puppies with the meal would have been a plus!
Great food. Catfish filets, oysters on the half shell, clam chowder, etouffe were all on point. Everything we've eaten here has been GREAT. Try the jalapeño cornbread...it is almost like dessert. If you know LA, then you'll like this place.
Great hole in the wall Cajun spot in Denton. I got the Crawfish Combo and a Cup of Gumbo. The portions was really great and the price is right. The Crawfish Trio was a little bit on the greasy side and the Gumbo was too sour for the taste. Overall great portions and pricing. Could improve a bit on the quality and everything will be perfect. I’m definitely going back to try other stuff for more taste test.
Service was friendly and food served promptly. Had Shrimp Gumbo, Catfish Po-Boy and Fried shrimp platter. They were all awesome. A little kick to the Gumbo and shrimp, but not too much. Atmosphere is what you would expect from a small place like this. Happy Hour drinks on Sat afternoon was a plus as well! We will be back!
Unfortunately the crawfish was undercooked and I sent it back, not wanting anymore. Some were even cold to the touch. No problems with the gator and boudin. They were awesome. I do have to say that the spices they used for the crawfish was really good. No issues with sending the food back
Went there yesterday for crawfish and was super excited to try them. Granted I normally go somewhere else and I know better to go anywhere but there. I was super disappointed. They were dry, still were super dirty inside, and were impossible to peel. Not to mention they were $3-$4 more per lb than anywhere else. I’m not saying that I’ll never go back but I definitely will not be ordering their crawfish.
My opinion, they serve your dinner on these small lunch-like plates. Their crab cakes are the size of breakfast sausage patties but with less meat. Service is great!
I needed to get lunch quick before getting back to work and I stopped here cause, why not? As soon as you walkin there's a certain smell... I'm guessing it's their grease trap... I dunno, but I really didn't have time to go somewhere where else so I stayed. Now the host sat me quick and the server, Cindy, came by soon after. I ordered some tenders cause I figured they would come out fast. When I got up to go wash my hands (PSA: wash your hands boys and girls!), I noticed a band setting up, I'm guessing they have live music on Fridays...? So my tenders came out and they were crispy on the smaller size, like a kids meal. Now the fries... were just a bunch of left over broken pieces, not any whole fries which was a disappointment. And the smell was ever present, honestly I wont be back until they get rid of that nasty, gross smell in the air. The best part was the staff, their friendly demeanor and welcoming way. Thank you Cindy!
First time here and it was nice inside our server Andrew took care of us and he did a great job. The food on the other hand different story. The menu was nice and had plenty of options but once our food was out my pasta wasn't very hot which I didnt complain about but there was no flavor to it nor seasoning. The Fish was pretty good and same thing with flavor and seasoning just didnt feel like it was there. All in all maybe a bad night for us but would like to try it again.
Took a coworker here for his birthday. I had high expectations but was disappointed from the moment I walked in. You can't sit down and order from your table. You have to stand at the register and like a Captain D's. Then, you ask for an item to be brought out as an appetizer, and it comes out with your food. We were there approximately 40 minutes and did not get even an offer of a refill, even though they make up pay for the tip at the registration when you place the order. There were two of us eating, and I had the catfish and shrimp plate while he had the blackened chicken. The ticket came out to $73.08, and they gave a small amount of French fries and two pcs of fish, and that's it. No hush puppies or anything extra. The prices were outrageous, and the service was non-existent. If you wanted anything ,you had to get up and go get it or yell across the restaurant for someone. This place was little more than a glorified Long John Silvers, yet they charge like it's a 5 star restaurant. I will not return.
I ordered 1/2 dozen Oyster for an appetizer. They were ok with Tabasco and horseradish. Then I ordered the Jambalaya. She asked white or wild rice? I was dumbfounded by the question. I said white. They served me a tomato based sauce with chicken and sausage with a bed of rice. I said, What is this and she replied, Jambalaya, see look. I said this is not Jambalaya. The manager asked if I wanted to switch my order and I replied yes. He suggested the crawfish etouffee, it is very popular. I was like no. I’ll go with the fried catfish and French fries. He asked how was it. I replied, hard to screw up fried fish and french fries. It was lightly breaded and falling apart. The tartar sauce saved the flavor. Good service, just not Cajun. My wife’s crab cakes came with pico.
I feel scammed by the extremely small portion sizes! I believe they are going for a fine dining experience with the high prices but the atmosphere doesn’t match at all. $23 for a 4 ounce salmon is absolutely absurd and I really regret trying them out. My fries were stale and I Left hungry…
Ordering at the front before seating myself was odd. Had to prepay for drinks and tip before service. Portion was small compared to other seafood spots in town. Don't think I'll be coming back again.
Let me first say that the service at Frilly's is great--the staff is very friendly and the food comes out fast. But the food is bad. The seafood gumbo was sour and thin--it was clear that a roux was not used for it, given the lack of flavor. The cornbread was too heavy on the flour and sweet. Oddly, the red beans were also sweet. I'd expect these kind of issues in the Midwest, but not in a state where people know what Cajun food is supposed to actually taste like.
But of a bummer when you ask for extra crispy fish and they send plate after plate of regular timed cooked fish. I kept getting diff excuses. 1. Communication problem w the cook. 2. That's as good as it gets without burning it. Finally got a decent crisp (well done) piece of fish I was happy with. Not even close to being burned like the manager suggested. All in all, I won't be back. Side note;. If you have a language barrier , get a translation app.
Drove 3.5 hours to eat here. My daughter’s meals were okay, chicken wasn’t warm. My son got the fried crawfish and etoufe, it was okay didn’t taste like much seasoning was on it. I ordered boudin with dirty rice and got white rice. The server didn’t even write down my husband’s order. He didnt get his plate until we were finished. This was a birthday dinner for my husband and he got 2 scoop of vanilla ice cream. Service was terrible!
Our first time back to Frillys in a couple years and we thought maybe there was a new owner (there is not) because the food was just not as good as we remember. The celery in the crabcakes was huge and uncooked. The gumbo was fairly unseasoned (we had to add a lot of tabasco, salt and pepper). The boudin was not cooked evenly at all. We spent $86 and left unsatisfied.
The place itself is nice and cleaned, the food is great, I loved it. But their customer service is not really good, you have to order on you way in and from there if you need something else you have to go to the register and order it yourself, they don’t check on how you are doing at all, thats their downside for me, even the manager doesn’t even care how you are doing. I have a doubt if I would like to recommend this place. The only good thing about this place is the food.
The food and service are great! But, while waiting for my pick up order a customer entered with a gun on his hip. Since the management does not see fit to post a no fire arms notice, I will eat somewhere else. Even great food isn't reason enough to be in the company of someone I don't know with a gun. Why would anyone feel like they need a gun to eat lunch?
Always wanted to try this place but it just never showed up on my radar. Well, we were driving around looking for somewhere and we happened upon it. Outside it really cool looking, like the spot to be. Walk inside: different story. You have a narrow hallway and then order at a counter before you seat yourself. Eh, okay. We ordered our food but there is one thing that irritates me. If I have to pay before I get my food, don’t ask me for a tip. I’m not tipping you for flipping your screen around, I’m not tipping you to take my order. So, anyway, moving on. The dining room looks like somewhere I would go if I was about to get whacked. Dark and dingy, the tables weren’t level and they had some kid of bar area that I couldn’t quite figure out. The whole place was depressing. I’m pretty sure I saw one of the staff sitting at that bar contemplating his bad life choices. We ordered an appetizer, it came out, but 1 min later, here comes all the rest of the food. Okay, guess there was no need for that appetizer. Everything was good, it was just all kind of bland and the wild rice was barely edible, which at some point I’m okay with, but for two people to eat with a kids meals was $53. Wow… talk about sticker shock for what we got. Not really my jam, it may be a Denton thing, not really sure how they stay in business considering all the amazing other places around them. Wouldn’t recommend. Likely wouldn’t go back.
Pretty dissapointed. A few weeks ago, I placed a pick-up order for 5:00 PM. At about 1:00 p.m., I received an email stating the order was ready even though the order details alsi said pick up at 5:00 PM. I emailed the attached customer service email for clarification, and nobody replied. At 5:00 I picked up my food. It was cold and mushy, and nobody wanted to eat it. Just a disappointment all around.
Not sure whats going on with the food but it did NOT......have flavor to anything at and the only thing was good was the fry's and the cornbread and the dr paper however but we probably want be coming back however the service was good it's just the food was not good at all 😟
ordered calamari ,kids popcorn shrimp and 2xtilapia with Milan sauce 80.97 was the total... tilapia was 16.99 .. then they added 5.99 for the sauce on top... had i known all the fish choices were the same price I would've gotten a better quality fish.. the Milan sauce at 5.99 makes sence if the 1 piece of tilapia with some dirty rice would've been 10.99. That plate was worth 16 bucks and we got charged 23 bucks x2 .. food wasn't bad but the portion sucked also.. . and then the oysters are 26.99 for 12. when u can go down the street and get em for 19.99 at the new place that just opened up.. honestly food is decent but fix your portion and prices ... thats why people are getting up and leaving .
The girl who helped me at the counter was super nice. However, I paid $26 for 2 pounds of crawfish, and it was the worst crawfish I’ve had. And I go to different places in the DFW area for crawfish every 1-2 weeks. We are in the middle of crawfish season and I’m 99% sure they use frozen crawfish. Every piece I had was inconsistent with quality, taste, and was super dry. I was very disappointed to pay $11.99 a pound for frozen crawfish, when I could’ve drove 20 minutes down the road for fresh crawfish at numerous other places, for the half the price. I won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who wants good crawfish.
