One of my most memorable dinner experiences and so needed in the Outer Banks. The interior and decor and panoramic view of the water was what I first admired. Our server was Dante and he was very attentive and informative and guided us on what would be best to order. The drink selection was amazing and the Bar manager came out and spoke with us and gave some great local tips. The lemon meringue was amazing and cannot wait until next year to try again. Ten out of ten recommended.
Last night we celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary, and it couldn’t have been more special. Before we even arrived, the hostess noticed our reservation note and personally called to offer us seats at the Chef’s Table, such a thoughtful touch that set the tone for the evening. From the moment we sat down, Chef John made us feel welcomed and created a fun, relaxed atmosphere that turned dinner into an experience. Every dish was outstanding, but we especially recommend the Tuna Tartare, Fish Toast, Lemon Pie, and the refreshing Blueberry Sorbet. The cocktails were top-notch as well, perfectly crafted to complement the meal. The staff at Theodosia went above and beyond, and the combination of great food, attentive service, and warm hospitality made it a night we will always remember.
The food..was...amazing! We started out with the Flaked Bluefish and Potato Puffs with Herbed Horseradish Cream and the Grilled Romaine with bacon, chopped cucumbers, tomato, red onion, and buttermilk blue cheese dressing. We ordered the Tomato Pie with a Summer Herb Salad...and this was an ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE! It has ruined me for pizza forever. I was blown away by this. It was beyond perfect. I can't even describe it with justice. For our entrees, we ordered a Pork Belly Porchetta with a Boiled Peanut Purloo and a Peach Gastrique and a Fresh Local Catch Fish Toast served with a succotash and a basil beurre blanc. The Porchetta was rich and crunchy and fatty and everything that's good about pork and was perfectly paired with that Peach Gastrique for a tasty burst of sweetness and light acidity adding pops of brightness. The Fish Toast was the true surprise of the meal, a delight of textures and tastes...this dish did not disappoint. Dad and I were truly amazed and stunned. Light, but amazingly flavorful. Finally...desert. We ordered the Summer Cobbler with a Buttermilk Sorbet and the Three Cracker Lemon Pie (because there is graham, ritz and saltines crust) and a bruleed Italian meringue. I have to mention our server, Dante. A truly great young man. He was the very epitome of customer service, kindness, humor, and just an all around delight. Thank you, Chef Vivian, Theodosia, Dante, and the rest of the fine chefs and staff for an amazing meal, a special night, and a most memorable experience.
We went twice over the course of the past two weeks and both times had excellent meals and service. We have enjoyed 4 different appetizers (really loved the flaked bluefish and potato puffs and the tuna tartare) and 4 entrees which were all excellent (Fish Toast is a must try). Bar made some excellent cocktails and the interior is very pretty. Service was very attentive both visits and the meal was well paced. Photos attached are from our first visit (rolls with caviar, bluefish potato puffs, shrimp and grits, tilefish)
We dined at Theodosia in late August and everything was perfect. Despite it being busy, we were well taken care of by staff who went above and beyond. The food and drinks were delicious. Absolutely nothing bad to say. Highly recommend.
We had an amazing time at Theodosia! We had reservations on a Wednesday evening and were seated right away. They have a wonderful wine list. We decided to get small plates- crab claws, tuna tartar, shrimp/scallop sliders and their special which was a watermelon Thai crab cake. The vibe was amazing and so were the views.
Excellent fresh seafood prepared by professional chefs. We had ceviche and tuna tartar appetizers, grilled romaine, pan seared fish and fish toast. Finished off the the decadent lemon merengue pie. All the food was excellent. Great view of the water as well.
We had such a lovely evening. We were in town for a family vacation and needed a little escape from the hustle and bustle; this spot was exactly what we were looking for. From the moment we walked in, we felt genuinely welcomed and taken care of. The intimate setting made for attentive, one-on-one service that really elevated the experience. The food was absolutely delicious, and the wine selection was well-curated. All in all, a perfect night out!
Absolutely loved our experience. Our waitress (I believe her name is Janine? Or something alike) was so pleasant and professional and absolutely on top of it. Small details which matter to me, like, our water was never empty throughout dining. The food was excellent. So full of flavor in every bite. We got the NY steak and fish toast. Best steak I’ve ever eaten. The atmosphere was clean and beautiful. I will definitely be going back.
Food was stellar! Extremely creative meals, and hands down one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been too. Our server Dante was amazing, extremely polite, patient with us, and very informative. Would definitely go back and I’d say it’s a must go to for anyone in Duck.
Beautiful restaurant with delicious food by Chefs Vivian Howard & Charlotte. The cocktails were delicious too! We loved everything we ordered. The restaurant is grand with stunning water views. Since they're so new, they're facing some service glitches due to staffing issues. that should get ironed out over time
Vivian Howard has once again proven her culinary prowess with Theodosia—an extraordinary addition to the Outer Banks dining scene. Nestled on the waterfront in Duck, NC, this elegant new restaurant delivers a sophisticated and deeply satisfying experience from start to finish. Our evening began with a warm welcome and impeccable service, led by our server Dante, whose cocktail recommendations were nothing short of inspired. The Pinhiller, in particular, was a standout—balanced, nuanced, and utterly memorable. We eagerly sampled several other craft concoctions, each showcasing a thoughtful interplay of flavor and refinement. The menu reads like a love letter to the Carolina coast. The Down East rolls offered a delicate start, followed by pristine Hatteras oysters—briny and bright, served at the peak of freshness. The New York strip was masterfully prepared, rich with beef jus and cooked to a perfect medium rare and pared with a melted-leek stuffed potato. But the true showstopper? A shrimp and grits soufflé—elevated, ethereal, and unlike anything we’ve tasted before. From atmosphere to execution, Theodosia earns a flawless ten. A must-visit destination for those seeking elevated coastal cuisine with heart and heritage…don’t miss the amazing desserts!
We were blessed to be at opening night. Vivian was in the kitchen and was radiating when a couple of gals came up and greeted her. The food was delicious. Our group tried the duck and the steak. We also tried the tuna tartare and the baked oysters and a couple of the desserts. I was especially impressed by the presentation of the mashed potatoes in the inverted potato skin. The cocktails were super creative and I’m guessing some kudos go to the distillery in Manteo, as their products were showcased and the drinks had the feel of the distillery; great collaboration-so freaking good! The atmosphere is charming, comfortable open and cozy. Really enjoyed the feel of the linens. The wait staff were friendly. The maître D was one of the many reasons I would come back. A great special occasion addition to Duck and the Outer Banks.
This restaurant is very special. The chairs are comfortable and the view is expansive and exquisite. The menu has something for everyone and the employees are friendly and professional. I enjoyed the tuna tar tar and the seasonal fish dinner. Request the server named Dante! He is delightful
Went for opening night tonight. Every dish was amazing! Our table shared the tuna tartar, marinated crab claws, bluefish & potato puffs, cobia, tomato pie, shrimp & grit soufflé, lemon pie, and chocolate cake. Plus cocktails! Everything was fantastic! Definitely going back for dinner again soon!
Lovely spot with gorgeous views of the sound. We loved the tomato pie, seafood toast and house furikake margarita. 10/10 would return.
Anything less than five stars wouldn’t do this place justice. We had a special seating request that was handled with zero fuss, and our server, Dante, was flawless — attentive without hovering and on top of every detail. With five of us at the table, we went big on appetizers. The Down east light rolls (especially the cheesy one) are a must, the clam chowder was the best I’ve ever had, and the tomato pie in its little cast-iron skillet was pure summer comfort. We all ordered different cocktails and ended up sharing sips — every single one was spot-on. The steak was the runaway winner of the entrées, perfectly seared with a stuffed potato—(with melted leeks) was creamy on the inside and out of bounds. The fish toast was delish, the frogmore ragout was great and I almost licked the bowl, but that steak… we’re still talking about it. Dessert sealed the deal: lemon pie you can’t miss and a cobbler that came bubbling in its own skillet. If you’re in the Outer Banks, this is the spot. We’ll be back — and we’ll be ordering that steak again.
12 on a 10 point scale. Our high hopes for a perfect special occasion experience were exceeded. From entering, to the professional and gracious service, to the beautifully presented and delicious dishes, to the stunning sunset, it could not have been better.
We spend some time in Collington every summer and are so thrilled to have such a fabulous restaurant nearby. Four of us went very shortly after they opened and the service, atmosphere, food, and bar program were impeccable. It was so fantastic that we brought another family member back the very next week and it was just as spectacular. Our server Dante was personable, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience so welcoming and fun. I hardly ever remember the names of servers but he was so lovely it felt like we’d known him forever by the time we left. The bartenders were also so friendly but also so well-versed in the menu and ingredients. Vivian Howard was at the restaurant the second time we went and delivered food to tables herself all evening, which was very cool. The Ghost of Eastlake cocktail (their take on a daiquiri) was absolutely incredible. So complex and perfectly balanced. One of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. Our party also had the Sea Oar (margarita) and the Serena Susana (milk punch) and they were exceptional too. All the food we had was spectacular. The standouts in starters were definitely the Grouper Ceviche, the Down East Light Rolls (all variations were great but especially the shrimp and scallop burger). For Entrees the steak was one of the best anyone in our party has ever had, and the Blueberry BBQ duck was so good that I’m still dreaming of ways to incorporate blueberries into every savory dish. For dessert we tried just about everything between the two visits, the cobbler was perfection and the figgy pudding was absolutely delicious (I didn’t want to order that one and I’m so glad we did and that I was wrong). I see reviews saying it’s too expensive- I found it surprisingly well-priced for the level of execution, quality, and creativity of the food. Not to mention the atmosphere, attention to detail, and overall experience. Also some people mentioned it’s not great for children. I would agree, this is a dining experience for adults. If possible, I would recommend not bringing your children. It also sounds like some people experienced challenges with reservations and service, but we experienced neither. We were sat right away and our every whim was attended to. Only a few weeks before coming we had the amazing good fortune to have dinner at The French Laundry. Our whole party agreed that the food and dining experience at Theodosia would easily rank very near that of The French Laundry. We can’t wait to come back next summer, hopefully multiple times! I wish I took good photos to share but we were too busy enjoying ourselves.
Fantastic experience at Theodosia! The tomato pie and baked oysters were a perfect start, and our NY steak and shrimp soufflé were cooked to perfection. Our server, Luda, was outstanding—warm, attentive, and thoughtful, going above and beyond by surprising us with complimentary sparkling wine to celebrate our 5‑year anniversary. Great food, lovely ambiance, and amazing service. Only downside? The tables are a bit too close together—at times you can brush shoulders with the neighboring table when being seated—but the experience overall was still fantastic. Highly recommend!
Theodosia is truly high dining. We had the crab claw and ceviche appetizers, and the fresh catch and crab zucchini pappardelle entrees. Each dish was creative and memorable. The flavors showed thoughtful attention to detail. The cocktails were also exceptional. We ordered off of the signature cocktail list and each one was unique and well balanced. We love espresso martinis, but this espresso martini with local rum was probably the best one we have ever had. The waiter, Caleb, was also exceptional. He was attentive and prompt, with a thorough understanding of the menus. His recommendations were all spot on. This dining experience was truly a highlight of our visit to the outer banks.
We sat at the bar and had a lovely experience! Our bartenders were so knowledgeable and friendly, the ambiance is the best on the beach, and I’ve been dreaming about the tomato pie since I left. Loved the cocktails, tuna tartar and grilled romaine too. I’ve heard complaints about the long waits in the dining room- which I feel is to be expected at a brand new restaurant still getting in their groove.. but the bar and kitchen bar are first come first serve so just sit there if you’re in a rush! Highly recommend!!
We were in town vacationing from Boston, MA and staying at the Sanderling. We reviewed the menu for Theodosia and it looked great. However, we couldn't get a reservation. Taking our chances, we walked across the street and hoped we were lucky enough to get a table or at minimum, a seat at the bar. There had been a cancellation at the chef's table and I can't recommend this enough. We didn't go out to dinner, we had an incredible dining experience. We were able to watch the chefs at work and it was a blast! Head Chef treated us to yummy "add-ons" and really made us feel special. Truly top notch customer service. We were checked on multiple times, by many people. All let us know to reach out should we need anything. We truly can't say enough good things about the food. I had the ceviche and the pan seared local catch. My husband had the blue fish and potato puffs as well at the fresh catch fish toast. We ordered the lemon pie for dessert and chef treated us to the blueberry sorbet as he said it was a great palette cleanser. While we were waiting for our entrees, Chef also had us test out the baked oysters and they literally were to die for! All of the food was! Lastly, we couldn't get over how reasonable the bill was. For this kind of experience and this quality/caliber of food, it was way lower than we would have estimated. Really surprising! So grateful for this experience. A must when you are in town! I promise, you will be so glad you did!
A beautiful restaurant with a fantastic view, delicious food, and impeccable service. Dante was our server and could not have been better. Try the fig pudding, it was unreal. A perfect spot for a fantastic upscale meal for adults with an appreciation for attention to detail, and undeniable talent in the kitchen.
We had an amazing dinner last night. Matt the manager was over the top with his service. His wine knowledge was spot on and recommendations were perfect! Luta our server was exceptional, attentive and so welcoming. The food was beyond our expectations and delicious. Wish Vivian would have been there to accept our compliments and congratulations on such a beautiful experience! Thanks for making our last night of vacation the best!
Run…don’t walk…to experience the magic that is Theodosia. This lush and nuanced restaurant experience is a treat from start to finish. The ambiance is amazing, from the spectacular sound views (we were lucky to snag a 7:30pm seating so we got to see a spectacular sunset) to the rich and welcoming furnishings. The staff were so kind and accommodating (special shout out to our wonderful waiter Dante, who was charming, funny and so helpful) Do not skip the cocktails…they are a masterpiece! Try the Old Buck…you won’t be disappointed. And, let’s not forget the true star of the show…Vivian Howard’s menu is playful and fresh with so many tantalizing items that is truly a chore to decide which direction to go in. We landed on the incredible steak, which was perfection and the Tomato Pie, which is rich and fresh and mouthwatering. Lastly, don’t forget desert…7 layer cake and the Blueberry Sorbet were divine. This restaurant is a keeper! Do yourself a favor and make a reservation. You won’t be sorry!
From drinks to desserts, everything we had was delicious. The local catch toast was so good I didn’t want it to end. And the atmosphere was great, nicely appointed interior with a spectacular view of the sunset on the sound. A well worth it splurge!
Such a great night. Food was delicious and inspired while the environment felt upscale and approachable. Everyone working there was so welcoming and friendly. Definitely a great addition to the outer banks for having a nice relaxed adult evening night out. We consider ourselves real foodies when it comes to dining out, as well as cooking at home, so we get it.
Had the most amazing New York strip steak at Theodosia – absolutely cooked to perfection! Tender, flavorful, and seared just right – every bite was a standout. A huge thank you to the bartender for the spot-on recommendation of the Brasstown Beef New York Strip. You can really taste the quality, and it’s clear the kitchen knows exactly how to let it shine. Elegant atmosphere, top-tier service, and genuinely thoughtful recommendations – I’ll definitely be back!
Posting review on behalf of my mom A few Saturdays ago, three friends and I enjoyed a delicious dinner at Vivian Howard’s new restaurant in Duck, N.C., Theodosia. From the warm welcome we received at the entrance throughout our entire meal where we dined at the Chef’s Table, we were treated to a wonderful dining experience. All of our menu choices were prepared perfectly and served beautifully. Our dinner was completed with an array of desserts and was impossible to decide which was best. I look forward to my next chance to dine in the elegantly decorated sound front dining room. A memorable evening. Thank you.
The food is very creative and delicious. The tomato pie might be the best thing on the menu, though my fresh cash toast was incredible too. We sampled several cocktails including their version of a painkiller which was very good. The bathroom is also well stocked, clean, and just very nice. Overall had a great experience here and would definitely recommend!
We recently had dinner at Theodosia and it was definitely the highlight of our entire visit. This may have been the best meal I have ever had. The food was delicious and very creative. The service was also wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Cathy from California, Kentucky
Our family discovered Theodosia while searching for new places in the OBX to dine. We have vacationed here since 1980 and are always trying new spots. We’re so glad we booked a table! It was a busy Friday night, and the service was excellent, our food was perfectly served and delicious, and everyone made us feel very welcomed and special. To cap it off, Chef Howard was in the restaurant tonight! She came by our table and graciously chatted with us for several minutes. We found fine dining excellence at Theodosia. You will too.
This is one of the best upscale Southern-style seafood restaurants we’ve visited in a long time. While it is certainly upscale, it never feels pretentious. The staff was exceptionally warm and welcoming. The manager personally greeted us, walked us through the menu, and even took the time to explain the cocktail selections—an incredibly courteous touch. Our server was equally attentive, offering thoughtful recommendations and explaining several of the dishes. We ordered the clam chowder, a salad, and some classic seafood fare. The clam chowder, in particular, was outstanding—perhaps the best soup I’ve ever had. It was light, packed with fresh vegetables and tender clams—truly unlike anything else. All in all, a five-star dining experience in a stunning setting overlooking the sound. We’ll definitely be returning. A fantastic addition to both Duck and the Sanderling Resort. Well done!
A must try on the Outer Banks! So much attention to detail. From the craft cocktails, to small plates and entrees! Service was great. The overall vibe inside is so ascetically pleasing. True beach meets fine dining atmosphere. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation. And get the tomato pie to share with the table !!!!
We came in for my mom's birthday and she left so happy. What more could a girl ask for? Everyone we spoke with was incredibly friendly. Our server, Dante, was very kind, knowledgable and gave excellent recommendations. My family was happy with their cocktails and I ordered a few mocktail versions that were so good. I love the more relaxed pace of fine dining, and service was paced perfectly. Our food was delicious, flavorful, and satisfying. The tomato pie and the lemon pie are well worth returning.
We had some of the best fish dishes here. The flavor combinations played off one another. Fresh catch fish toast made me laugh it was so tasty. We don't eat desserts often, but between the starters and entrees being so special I had to try a dessert. I am so glad we tried the lemon pie and there sorbet. These were desserts were truly treats. I kept making the bites smaller and smaller because I didn't want the flavors to end. Truly a wonderful experience from the relaxed host Matt, to our attentive server Leila and the chef Joe and fellow chefs cooking with such caring detail. Put this place on your must go to list!
The drinks are fabulous. Service was amazing! Of the food we had we really enjoyed the chocolate cake, lemon pie, and shrimp Mushroom soufflé.
We went months ago when it was the 2nd night they opened and I left a poor review. We went back tonight to try it again since we live in the neighborhood.Food was def better but I’ll skip the flaking black mold on the entire ceiling that is actually flaking off. Enjoy the view but don’t look up and keep a lookout of falling ceiling mold! This was not speculation but our server told us this! Nice try painting over it…lol
We had reservations at Theodosia for dinner but received a call that their AC wasn't working. We went anyway and toured the restaurant, which is beautiful, and decided to have drinks and appetizers. The bartenders Thomas and Josh were incredible. We enjoyed two specialty cocktails and several excellent appetizers--Oysters and shrimp two ways. Unfortunately, the temperature wasn't such that we stayed for dinner, but we had a wonderful introductory experience. In fact, Thomas provided us with a great recommendation for another dinner location option that was very good. Kudos for that recommendation!
I’ve been to Theodosia twice now—once for a romantic date night and once with a 6 girl friends—and I’ve got mixed feelings. Let’s start with the good stuff: the drinks are chef’s kiss. The bartender is the real MVP—fun, fabulous, and knows how to mix a mean cocktail. The lemon pie? Dreamy. I’d come back just for that and a stiff drink. The space is stunning. Beautiful decor, killer views—this place looks like it should be a five-star experience. But here’s the tea: the food and service didn’t live up to the vibe. My steak was overcooked and begging for salt. The dinner rolls? Meh. Like, why even bother? The clam chowder had flavor, but there were more carrots than clams—who ordered veggie soup? And the duck had a great sauce, but the rest didn’t deliver. Oh, and it was hot in there. Not “cozy ambiance” hot—like, “why are the servers visibly sweating” hot. Everyone looked uncomfortable, and that doesn’t exactly set the mood. This place has serious potential, but it needs to tighten up the food, crank up the A/C, and inject some life into the service. Until then, I’ll stick to cocktails, dessert, and that pretty view. Response to the general manager’s reply: Hi Firas, Thanks for your note. I gave Theodosia two solid chances — once for a date night and once with friends — and both times the experience fell short. Gorgeous space, yes. Great cocktails, sure. But at the end of the day, I’m not paying for atmosphere. I won’t be rolling the dice a third time. Wishing you the best as you work out the kinks.
My husband and I were very excited that there was a fine dining restaurant in the Outer Banks. I made reservations about a month in advance for our wedding anniversary dinner. The building is beautiful and I absolutely loved the interior design. We were seated when we arrived but then waited a good 10 minutes before our waitress spoke to us and gave us water. She was incredibly friendly and helpful- no issue with the service. Our biggest issue was the food quality and price. We knew we were going to spend a decent amount and we are glad to as long as the food is good. We are also fine if portion sizes are smaller, but the food should be flavorful. Both of our entrees lacked flavor (see photos) and did not leave us feeling satisfied. Our appetizer (Shrimp 2 ways) was the best dish we had in the restaurant, however, it came with 5 shrimp in the shrimp cocktail & the shrimp “ball” is a spoonful of what looks to be a dip. We felt we spent way too much money on small portion sizes and flavorless food. I also have a gluten intolerance and the menu lacks allergen labeling. I also did not have many options for my dietary needs. We received a dessert menu, but decided to buy dessert elsewhere as each dessert cost minimum $12 each. Our bill came to around $120 before tip. We actually had to buy dinner at a local restaurant afterwards because we left hungry & dissatisfied. The only really great thing was the atmosphere. We enjoyed the decor and the chairs were very comfortable. It was a romantic setting where we sat back and relaxed. We were just a bit upset to have spent so much money on average food that, in my opinion, is not authentic or inspired by the Outer Banks. I hate to be so harsh because we love dining local and loved the Sanderling resort, but I wouldn’t want another couple to book here and have the same experience.
I followed Vivian Howard's PBS show and have previously dined at The Boiler Room in Kinston prior to it closing. We loved the decor at Theodosia, especially the window treatments and drapes opening to plate glass picture window views of Currituck Sound. Loved the Greek key pattern in the tiles. The hostess/maitre d' made a great first impression on us. We sat at one of the tables with the comfy swiveling armchairs. The chairs were very low. My friend's geriatric mother accepted the pillow offered by our waiter to compensate. The table felt too tall (even for us). She ordered a Pinot Noir and I had a Martini. The wine came out 15 to 20 minutes ahead of my cocktail. I ordered three each of the two types of oysters on the menu, along with the duck barbecue with blueberry sauce. The oysters were far from well chilled, in fact they were warm (and had no liquor). There was no indication on the serving as to which oysters were which. My friend's mother had the crab cake and shrimp two ways. My friend ordered the flaked blue fish and potato puffs for the table (tasty!). My buddy ordered the duck, and clam chowder. We both ordered the duck medium rare and it came out medium well (and lukewarm at best), but had good flavor. I ordered a glass of grenacha with my duck. The waiter offered to give me a taste of it because he said it was "hit or miss". Instead he just brought me a glass with my entree. Very good, by the way. Smoother and lighter than any I've had before. I had the lemon pie, which I thought was very good, although possibly slightly too far in the direction of a custard. The meringue was fantastic (a bit beyond golden brown though). The waiter cleared my dessert plate without asking me if I was finished, and there was still a bite left. I wanted an espresso but was informed that only decaf espresso was available, so my friend and I settled for a black coffee instead. I was disappointed because I could see the beautiful Lavazza espresso machine from where I was sitting. I was wondering if the the restaurant is named after Theodosia Burr Alston, the daughter of Aaron Burr. She was lost at sea aboard the ship the Patriot during the War of 1812. When I am spending over $100 a head for dinner, I expect a bit more from the overall experience.
It’s a beautiful space and the majority of our foot was good, not great, the steak was the exception. It was excellent. The service was a mess. Passive aggressive wait staff who ignored us to the point that we closed the restaurant and had to take dessert to go. It was a big disappointment I’m sorry to say. I was so excited about this night out
Unfortunately ended our trip here and was not memorable. Service was not great. Appetizer was good but once the entree came it was downhill. My son and husband ordered steak, medium. It came overdone and dry. You get better steak at chain restaurants. Once it came it took almost 20 minutes to get the server. He offered then , without any regret or apology, to refire a new steak. By this time our family was already done. It took another 15 to 20 minutes and the second steak was pretty much the same, DRY!. Pork entree was also not worth trying. Definitely could skip this restaurants. Plenty of other local restaurants with great tasting food. Food not worth the pricing.
Sadly we were disappointed given all the hype we had heard about this place. We waited 15 minutes for our water glasses to be filled. The cocktails we started with were very small pours as was the wine later with dinner. The wait time for them was slow. We did like our shrimp cocktail and the soup starters. The crab and Zucchini “Papardelle” had by 2 of us wasn’t what we expected. There’s no pasta in this. It tasted fishy and the crab certainly was NOT local blue crab. One person had the fresh fish dish and liked it ok. We shared the 10 layer cake and that was probably the best dish of the whole meal. The service was slow and the waiter, while nice, never checked back after our dinner was served.
For an exceptionally expensive meal, the service and atmosphere were not at all up to spec. We were sat 30 mins later than our reservation for a party of 6. Our waitress was plenty friendly, but overwhelmed and somewhat unprofessional. Bar was slow - complicated drinks that took too long to make so by the time they reach you they're watered down. Probably would have ordered 1-2 more drinks if things were normally paced. We never even got the bottle of wine we ordered but were halfway through our meal before we realized. There were no bussers to bus the tables of used dishes. Food came out room temp, would have been fantastic if brought out at the right time. AC needs to be stronger. Previously, Kimball's Kitchen had their menu and service down pat. We will not be back to Theodosia. Paper Canoe is still the best restaurant in the area.
We must have had higher expectations for Theodosia due to what was advertised. We arrived 5 minutes prior to our reservation time only to be told it would be 20-30 minutes before our table was ready. We joined other couples waiting inside by the hostess stand. The hostess was not very friendly. The views are amazing and the best thing about our experience. The tables are packed so closely, it’s difficult to have private conversations at dinner. The food was mediocre and way overpriced for the serving size. I will pay for elevated experiences, but this one was very disappointing. I sat there wishing I had made reservations at The Paper Canoe next door instead.
⭐☆☆☆☆ Disappointing Experience Despite Good Food We were hopeful about trying Theodosia, especially with the reputation for good food. And to be fair, the food itself was solid — well-prepared and flavorful. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The service was some of the worst we’ve experienced anywhere. We were given warm water to start, and after ordering drinks, it took 40 minutes for them to arrive — well after we had finished our appetizers. No explanation, no apology. Just completely inattentive and disorganized. When service is this poor, it overshadows the food entirely. We left frustrated and disappointed. There are plenty of other great spots in Duck — we would not recommend this one. One star.
We made reservations tonight and were first set at the wrong table. When we finally got our dinner after a 45 minute wait, the duck my Husband ordered was supposed to be cooked medium but was rare and he couldn’t eat it. My steak was ordered medium rare but was so greasy and salty, I couldn’t eat it.
