We had an absolutely outstanding meal at Sora Diana. The thought and care they'd put into the mains along with the desserts we had was immediately apparent. Everything was very well-balanced and highlighted just the right flavors at the same time. The service was friendly and the ambiance intimate. We both couldn't believe how convincing and delicious the vegan meats and cheeses in the dishes were, and even moreso that everything was that good while also being gluten-free. Definitely one of the best meals and top dining experiences we've ever had-highly recommended!

Incredible food. I am originally from Rome, so I was really impressed. I ordered the grigliata mista and it was insane how closely it resembled meat, my omnivore boyfriend was also taken aback. Definitely the best vegan meat I’ve ever tasted. The amatriciana and tiramisù were also amazing. Our waitress was really enthusiastic, which was also very nice.

I had an absolutely delightful experience at Sora Diana! Our group event was made extra special by the attentive and friendly staff. As someone who follows a gluten-free diet, I was thrilled to savor a delicious pinsa topped with truffles. The playful "ribs" with edible "bones" were a true highlight, showcasing the restaurant’s creativity! Even as a non-vegan, I found every dish incredibly satisfying and flavorful. The generous portions were not only tasty but also beautifully plated. Don’t miss out on dessert – the gluten-free tiramisu is simply divine! I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

This meal was incredible!! I really miss creamy Italian food so we tried the carbonara, truffle gnocchi, tiramisu and the ultimate highlight the burrata (I’m in awe at how well this has been made on site and had nothing like it since being vegan, complemented with reduced blueberries, pistachios and lemon, we will pop back just for this!!) The service was beyond lovely and we felt truly welcome. Food arrived incredibly fast too. What a joyful, comforting evening :) See you soon!

Delicious Italian delicacies that you cannot tell are entirely vegan. Very authentic, tasty food including a great array of different pasta and risotto dishes. It makes me hungry just reminiscing about this dinner.

Popped into a vegan restaurant for the first time, during my short stay in Edinburgh, not entirely sure what I was getting myself into. I half expected to leave hungry and confused but instead, I ended up coming back the very next day! Although I’m usually quite selective when it comes to food, I sampled everything, from the starter through to the dessert, including the main courses, and thoroughly enjoyed it all! The staff were very friendly, and I also had a nice chat with the two owners, Dea and Maddalena, who were really warm and down-to-earth. All I can say is, if you’re not vegan when you walk in, there’s a good chance you’ll be reconsidering by the time you leave! Five stars... and that’s not just the rib bone talking!

We visited this vegan Italian restaurant in Edinburgh yesterday and we were blown away. The cocktails were spot-on; balanced, proper drinks rather than weak rubbish. The ambient music set a great feeling, the staff were lovely, and the food… wow. Incredibly inventive, full of flavour, and seriously impressive. My (non-vegan) Mum even said the “meat” tasted real. Portions were generous, and although mains were around £30, it felt completely worth it. Highly recommend.

Amazing antipasti and pasta. Unsure how we managed to make space for tiramisu and cheesecake, but it was worth it! The only small critique would be that we were not informed of the tip already included in the bill.

Absolutely amazing food in cosy atmosphere. So happy to find a vegan Italian restaurant with so many gluten-free options that are incredibly mouthwatering. 😋Probably one of the best dishes we’ve ever had! So looking forward to come back!

Sora Diana is a cozy little Italian vegan restaurant in Edinburgh that completely stole our hearts. My partner and I enjoyed what were honestly the best pasta dishes and pizzas we have ever had — full of flavour, beautifully cooked, and clearly made with passion and care. The atmosphere is wonderfully homely and welcoming, making you feel relaxed the moment you step inside. On top of that, the staff at Sora Diana are incredibly kind, friendly, and attentive, which makes the whole experience even more special. Every visit feels like coming back to a favourite place rather than just going out for a meal. I will always return to Sora Diana whenever I am in Edinburgh, and I will happily recommend it to everyone I know.

Hands down the best meal I’ve had while traveling in Scotland. Exactly the vibe I was looking for. The food was delicious and the staff were super friendly. I would travel back just to dine here again.

Everything was absolutely amazing! We arrived when they were about to close but still served us with a smile on their face. The food was just amazing, my girlfriend and I were blown away by their vegan burrata especially - the chef/owner came to talk to us to explain how it was made and we had a great chat. Thanks so much you made our first evening in Edinburgh very welcoming. All the best to your business :) Carlo and Sara

Beautiful beautiful food!! Came in with high expectations and happy to say the experience went well beyond them!! There's something for everyone on the menu with Italian classics and dishes unique to Sora Diana. Atmosphere is amazing as you'll be surrounded by others who are being blown away at the extraordinary flavour combinations as well. Not to be missed whether you are just visiting Edinburgh or have been a lifelong local! Make sure to ask about the specials :)

I was really blown away by the vegan steak!! I’ve never had a vegan steak like this, it was very delicious and the portion was massive. I shared it with one other person and it was still very big so it’s good value for money. Tiramisu was also amazing and I appreciate it so much because it’s always hard to find vegan tiramisu! Food is honestly 10/10! My only complain would be that we waited about 35 minutes for someone just to take the order, and also the staff looked like they were avoiding eye contact and it was very hard to grab their attention. However it was a busy Saturday night so I understand it’s busy and hard :) will definitely be going back for the delicious food!

My partner and I visited the Sora Diana as our last date night on a trip to Edinburgh this week (our first time in Scotland), and everything was just perfect. We booked for 18:30 and the restaurant was quiet with a couple of other tables being served, which gradually got busier throughout the evening, but the service was exceptional by both servers as they were so attentive of everyone. The atmosphere here felt relaxing, and even with a relatively small space they make it work very nicely. The food was also incredible. We ordered from the Valentines deal (which lasts throughout February) which included a main and a choice between 3 cheesecakes for desert, but also a couple nibbles from the menu. Everything was so delicious, and the Nutella cheesecake was really special to finish with 🤩 Thank you for a really amazing experience, we will definitely come back if we return to Edinburgh!

Beautiful open yet cozy and intimate. There were at least 20 people dining with tables to spare at 7pm Mezze maniche alla Carbonara Smokey *bacon lardons in a creamy carbonara sauce. This dish was heavy, but absolutely complete. I would preference it coming at a main Porchetta e Patate Crispy strands of *porchetta with rosemary baked potato chunks, *mozzarella and signature house made stracciatella cheese Wow again, not a traditional pizza but damn it was delicious. The *porchetta had a smokey intensity that balanced the creamy garlic mozzarella base. The house made tasted closer to a sour cream, but that said it fit perfectly into the balance of the dish. The champagne bouche et fils worked wonders here, cutting through the creamy and salty intensity of the pizza bread. I wish I had room for dessert. The service was wonderful and attentive. The bartender really knew her stuff as I watched her smash out a seemingly endless stream of cocktails. The other server on the floor was busy all night, effectively attending to guests in an appropriate Time. Yea 16 800km is a little excessive a voyage, but Sora Dianna was worth the distance. Amaro del capo as a digestive, I couldn't resist.

Visited for the first time today from Wales and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. We had the seitan starter and Carbonara, which had me clearing the bowl clean. The staff member (so sorry I didn't get their name) was so lovely and gave brilliant service. Prices were alittle higher, but we didn't mind paying as it was worth the quality of the food and portions were great. Recommend for those wanting a special night out or date night. We will definitely be back with more family next time! Thank you again

As an Italian, I am always curious (and a bit skeptical) when I try Italian food abroad, especially when it's fully vegan. I must say, I was thoroughly impressed with Sora Diana. It's a beautifully well-kept and curated restaurant, with a very pleasant atmosphere. What stood out to me was the quality of the food. I can confirm that many of the ingredients they use are genuinely very good, which is the foundation of any great Italian dish. The menu is fantastic, offering a very varied selection (la scelta è molto variegata), which is impressive given that everything is 100% plant-based. They've done a great job of recreating classic flavours without any animal products. Of course, for an even more intense and authentic experience, nothing beats a trip to Italy itself! However, Sora Diana comes wonderfully close and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for high-quality, plant-based Italian food. Well done!

Visited for an early dinner around 17:00 on a Thursday. Plenty of tables available though it was definitely getting busier as we left, worth booking if going for a later time. I had the penne arrabiatta which was really delicious. My partner had the gnocchi and said it was really great too. Worth visiting once/for a special occasion I think. Really nice and grateful to have a fully vegan Italian restaurant

Had been waiting to go for a while and was not disappointed! It’s hard to get interesting vegan pasta options and it there were so many options it was difficult to choose from the menu. The prices may seem slightly high, but for excellent quality innovative vegan dishes, in an expensive city anyway, it was totally worth it. The service was a little slow, but make sure you prepare yourself to eat the Italian way and spend a couple of hours, and you won’t be disappointed. We had the ravioli and a tomato pasta dish, the gluten free swap in was exceptional and the waiter came several times to check in with different gluten free options. Excellent spot and can’t wait to come back the next time we’re in Edinburgh!

100% amazing for a 100% vegan menu. We did our research before we set off up to Scotland. After hearing this place was great, we thought we'd give it a go. Would recommend booking online first, everything was lovely. We hope to be back sometime.

We had our hen and stag do at Sora Diana and it was wonderful! They have a great private space at the back of the restaurant which we were able to decorate. We ordered our food in advance as we were quite a big party, and all the service on the day was amazing, everything came hot and on time and the food was absolutely delicious!! My friends raved about the food afterwards and we have been back since to sample more of the menu. We would 100% recommend for a party or event! Thank you so much to the wonderful and attentive staff including the co-owner of the restaurant who made the event so special! 🥰

I’m in Edinburgh (Scotland) for work and, having done my usual research upfront, I had booked at this lovely fully vegan Italian restaurant, Sora Diana - The Vegan Sora is their Facebook page - which was highly rated and strongly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Well, it certainly didn’t disappoint!!! 😋 I ordered mezze maniche alla carbonara and grigliata mista di carne con patate arrosto (carbonara pasta and mix grill of different meats with roast potatoes) 🍝🍢🍖🍡🥔 Doggy bag needed btw, as it was all absurdly delicious, but also very generous in terms of portions, I was stuffed!!! 😄 Special mention to Eli, the most attentive waitress ever!!! 🫶🏼

Sora Diana is a true gem in Edinburgh’s dining scene, offering an exquisite vegan take on classic Italian cuisine. Every dish is crafted with remarkable attention to flavor and presentation, showcasing the depth and warmth of plant-based ingredients without compromise. The atmosphere is refined yet welcoming, and the service is attentive in the most genuine way. A visit to Sora Diana is not merely a meal — it’s an experience that celebrates both elegance and compassion.

We loved our dinner. It was so delicious. Although not the lowest cost, it’s well worth it. Lots of gluten-free option available. Delicious appetizers and desserts as well as friendly service. Thursday night is all you can eat pasta night! 6 different pastas and three appetizers. Highly recommend giving Sora Diana a try when you are in town!

vibes were great, fantastic food, bathroom was amazing, pads and tampons in the men’s toilets which i felt was very inclusive as a trans man. photo of lady gaga in ladies bathroom (my wife to be told me) iconic. food was sensational, love how everything is vegan, was really looking forward to meeting the italian masc lesbian (we love you) who owns the place but i don’t think she was on shift (gives us a reason to come back!) wine was amazing, had a wonderful evening, we shall be back soon! if your going to come here, get the tiramisu, you won’t regret it!

Great new vegan restaurant for those that love Italian food! Don’t be fooled by the low review numbers this place has just opened and we will definitely be back for more. The fried mushrooms are exceptional and the virgin cocktails are also extremely good…all the staff were super friendly and very helpful. Highly recommended! Oh and the tiramisu is also very very good.

The new Sora Diana is a great pairing to its sister restaurant, Sora Lella. The location Is perfect, right off the meadows & nestled next to meadows tap, adding to the vegan corner. The food, like sora lella is a veritable feast of vegan options, along with many supporting cocktails. There are fewer pasta options than sora lella, but more meat options & other traditional Italian dishes. This visit was on the opening night, & while there were a few operational issues, the food was amazing, & we very much enjoyed ourselves. I would advise pre booking as the venue got pretty busy whist here.

My sister and I came for dinner last night and we had a lovely time! As a vegan and a vegetarian it was so refreshing that nothing on the menu was off limits for us. If you're a veggie or vegan who misses meat or cheese this place is a winner, there are lot of amazing and tasty substitutes to choose from! Everything we ordered was delicious, would highly recommend the carbonara and the dessert was also amazing. I only had a virgin cocktail but that was lovely and the real cocktails looked incredible too! The staff were very helpful, charming and attentive and the general vibe of the restaurant is chilled and cool, even during the fringe. We will be coming back as soon as possible to taste more of the options on the menu as it was quite hard to narrow down what we wanted with so many intriguing options! Thank you so much for a wonderful night! One note that may be worth bearing in mind is that if you are disabled and require a mobility aid, this may not be ideal for you due to the layout of the restaurant and location of the toilet. Other than that, I would recommend this place to anyone, vegan or otherwise!

A fantastic discovery. We took vegan relatives who were visiting. On booking, I mentioned that my son has autism and the staff were so accommodating and helpful to make sure he would be comfortable. The service was great and the food was fabulous. My son ate all his pasta! Highly recommend!

We had a set menu from the guest chef, with paired wines available. It was a well thought out menu, with a variety of tastes and textures, all of which was thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were very helpful and attentive. Faultless.

Absolutely amazing, delicious food that just melts in your mouth. Lovely staff. 100% vegan food. It was so refreshing to dine in a place where you don't have to explain on repeat what vegan food is lol. We will definitely be back until we work through the whole menu 😋 Thank you!

An incredible new restaurant in the city, a wonderful, intimate atmosphere perfect for a special night with good friends or someone special. A menu that hits all the highlights of Italian food without relying on pizza or pasta and delivers in flavour with every dish. Don't be fooled by the meat and cheese all over the menu, everything is plant based and was so well prepared meat eating friends have been raving about how good the food was. To match the wonderful food there is a very strong drinks menu, filled with classic cocktails, some house specials and of course wine to match your food. The staff were very friendly, incredibly knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions we had during our visit. If you are in Edinburgh and have a special occasion coming up I couldn't recommend this restaurant more.

We had a great time at Sora Diana. The waitstaff that served us was excellent and generous. We went for the Pasta Nonstop, and enjoyed that we could try several of their pastas in one, and loved the starters as well! I recommend this place to vegans in the area, and if we lived nearby, we'd definitely be back with regularity. Again, our complements to the waitstaff, truly above and beyond, what a joy.

We went last Thursday. The atmosphere is very welcoming and friendly, with a varied menu. We tried the pizza alla pala, which was generous in size and delicious. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owners — two wonderful, enterprising women full of enthusiasm and passion for what they do

We tried the cheesecake deal, and overall the food was quite good. For Vegan food, I’d give the options a solid 10, but in terms of authentic Italian cuisine, I’d rate it closer to a 6. The restaurant’s lighting felt very harsh, and the table layout seemed a bit awkward. Our starters arrived before our drinks, which wasn’t ideal. On the positive side, the house white wine was excellent, and the portion sizes were very generous & we were absolutely stuffed by the end of the night. The décor was… interesting. I was a little confused by the wall of plastic flowers in a vegan restaurant, but that’s more of a curiosity than a complaint. Overall, I’m glad we went, but I don’t think we’ll be rushing back.

Maybe expectations were a little high because of the good reviews, but it seems like it being fully vegan is good enough to get people going and they've stopped trying beyond that. The space itself is fine, the atmosphere was a little stiff. The service people were really polite and nice, but not warm or friendly. It didn't feel like a place you wanted to stay very long in. The arancini was really, really good for starting. But after that, and yes some things are just personal taste, it was poor. The pizza was so, so greasy (the vegan cheese was fairly good but way too much) and apart from the crust it was really soggy. It's not a southern style of pizza that's meant to be a little wet. Also the pepperoni under the cheese is an odd choice because it didn't crisp but maybe that's an artistic vision of the chef. 2.5/5 With so much good vegan food in the city I wouldn't bother with this place again unfortunately

Sora serves truly delicious food — everything we ordered was fresh, well-presented, and full of flavour. The cooking is definitely the highlight. Unfortunately, the service was quite odd and took away from the experience. When we arrived for our booking, we went to the counter to let staff know and expected to be shown to our table. The staff member went to the till to check where we were sat and then walked past us to seat us, all without saying a single word, which felt unwelcoming. We were seated in a smaller side space where staff didn’t come out very often, making it hard to get attention. Each time we asked for something, staff would nod and walk away without confirming, leaving us unsure if our requests were understood. At one point my partner had to go to the counter twice just to get salt and pepper. It’s a shame because the food was excellent, but the service needs improvement to match the quality of the kitchen.

Friend and I went for dinner about a month ago—we'd heard great things online and were quite excited, especially as she is vegan and so her options are usually limited. The atmosphere is nice and our server was pleasant, but the food was honestly quite disappointing. We felt the portions were small for the price (our pastas ran us about ~£20 each). We got a focaccia to share and two pastas, no dessert, and it ended up being £70 for two people, plus service charge. We paid the service charge (12.5%) as obviously it isn't the servers fault the food was mediocre, but oof. The pasta tasted a bit rubbery; I've definitely had much nicer vegan pasta before. Again, if it had been cheaper I probably wouldn't have minded as much. Overall, we would not go back.

I was really looking forward to visiting Sora Diana during a weekend break in Edinburgh and made sure it was one of the restaurants I booked but I was quite disappointed. First, to get to the front of house staff you have to walk through the restaurant and past the bar, there are no signs saying 'wait here to be seated' so it's not obvious where to go when you first walk in and when I asked I found the staff rude. One waitress had headphones in and had to remove them to understand what I was saying. Then, the tables are far too close together. So close that every time the gentleman on the table next to me took a sip of his red wine I could smell it and it was nauseating. Also if you're next to obnoxious loud people (as we were) it's impossible to have your own conversation. I ordered the carbonara which I was really looking forward to as a good carbonara is something I miss as a vegetarian, but it was bland and the sauce was a gluey consistency. The only flavour was the black pepper. In hindsight I may have been better off ordering something tomato based as a guess it is difficult to replicate the flavour of something heavily dairy/bacon based, but if you're not able to do it well then it shouldn't be on the menu. My partner had the meat feast pizza which was very disappointing too, not even as good as a vegan pepperoni pizza he had at Pizza Geeks the previous day. The fries we had as a side were quite soggy but did at least have a nice flavour. I also had a rosé wine which tasted like the bottle had been open for some time. Overall I found it very over priced given the quality and probably the worst vegetarian/vegan meal I've had during my 5 days in Edinburgh. The best thing was that the service was fast so we were able to get out of there quickly.

D
D N

Overall extremely disappointed with our visit. We were the only guests when we arrived, staff did not even greet us and took a couple of minutes until someone came to our table with the menu. Had 2 pasta dishes which were both okay, but definitely not worth the asking price. They then have the audacity to add a 12.5% service charge on top (it was never explained as being optional to us) which means we paid 50 GBP for some okay pasta and 2 soft drinks, with terrible service.

J
James M

I just don't understand the hype of this place. Extremely overpriced and the slowest service I think I've ever received. It took 40 mins after sitting down to get a drinks order but this was after I had to ask one of the waitresses. Penne Arrabbiata for £17.90 😬 there's nothing special or veganised about this dish. You can literally get this in ANY Italian establishment for about half the price. All the other dishes we tried were very underwhelming. Nothing stood out for flavour or quality. Literally something you could knock up at home midweek. Meats tasted like Squeaky Bean brand. The pizza we received tasted burned and like the oven it was cooked in hadn't been cleaned in a while. The chips were oil laden and soggy. This is the third time we've tried food from the owners of this restaurant and we just don't get it. The poor overworked server at the end made sure to mention the 12.5% service charge is optional but my father-in-law is too polite and insisted on paying it. This should have been waived before the server came with the bill or at least throw in the Limoncello shots we had. She knew it was unacceptable service but I think it just sums this place up perfectly. They want your money and they'll happily take it no matter how bad the service or the food is. We won't be returning.

my partner and I came here for our anniversary dinner after hearing great things and seeing Sora Diana on Instagram. it's so rare to find a fully vegan Italian restaurant so we were really excited and had been looking forward to it for weeks. sadly, we were disappointed. we don't want to drag them through the mud but feel it's important to share what made it a bad experience for us: atmosphere • tables were too close together in the main space - we could hear everything the tables beside us were saying and it was so awkward! we were whispering and the table beside us barely spoke because it was so uncomfortably close. • music was too quiet, provided zero ambience. even talking across the table to my partner felt uncomfortable because everyone could hear each other's conversations. • lighting was way too bright for a dinner service - we expected a nice cosy vibe and it was the furthest thing from that, felt really sterile and off-putting. • it genuinely felt like a different restaurant than what's advertised on instagram. it was giving community vegan cafe rather than italian restaurant. service & food • service was slow and awkward, no friendliness from the wait staff and we were waiting for a while to be served after we were seated. • we ordered the bolognese rice balls as a starter and the rice inside was chalky and raw. I was picking it out of my teeth after the first bite. we were so hungry that we finished them, regrettably, but it wasn't enjoyable at all. • a 12.5% service charge was added to the bill, which would be reasonable if all the above points weren't true. for already expensive dishes (£20+ for a pasta dish) it felt like a steep charge, especially when the service was lacking. we cancelled our mains and left after the starter. we hope this was just a bad night and looking at the other reviews, maybe it was, but we won't be rushing back and we can't honestly recommend it to anyone either.

This is a restaurant we were keen to visit, unfortunately our expectations we demolished. Customer service has to be on par or better than the good, and ours wasn't at any level I have experienced in a restaurant for many years. My wife, who is normally very forgiving asked to take the service charge off, it takes for my wife to do this, this is only the second time in about 20 years. I understand it takes a toll, but charging high rates must have the same level of service, and getting an automatic service charge is not what I expect. Your food was good, but food can only get you so far, service should be authentic, pure, effortless, I know many people visiting Edinburgh, I cannot wholeheartedly say I would be able to recommend this to them.

B
Bruno Davison

Food was fairly good, but wildly overpriced for the quality. It was fine, not great, not terrible. They added a 12.5% service charge onto the bill which was a real slimy move. Unsure if they're trying to skirt the card machine charges without breaking the law, just feeding the ever-gaping maw of greed or just trying to steal tips from their wait-staff (who were nice, but had very little to do as it was a buffet-style bottomless pasta night). I've seen other responses from the restaurant mention that the service charge is "clearly laid out", it's on the bill when it comes, that's it. They're banking on people feeling guilty or embarrassed to ask for it to be removed, and this awful Americanisation should be called out at every step.

L
Liam

Not nice at all. I've been a vegetarian since I was 11, and the food here is - not to my fancy. The menu is expansive and there's clearly been a lot of thought into the options. But the flavours, were artificial? There's beautiful, fragrant, vegetable rich Italian food that could've shined bright here. But sadly, for me, the food was stodgy, chemically and had a distinct lack of freshness.

J
Jeremy Hayes

Extremely poor service, this place was to be one of the highlights of our trip. Sadly our waiter forgot us multiple times. Left our drinks on the bar so long that the busy bartender had to step out and bring them to us on her own. You could visibly see the other staff getting frustrated with this individual, it was painful to watch and experience. Never once did the waiter apologize or acknowledge the issues. Overall a huge let down.
