Top notch healthy food options and a great selection of not so healthy ones. Portions are huge so you might want to share if you're a little bird. Coffee is good. Great breakfast joint. Good/quick service.
Huge pancakes! I enjoyed the sweet potato pancakes. Great food, wonderful service, very clean establishment. It is THE place to go in Imperial/El Centro. Next time I will try one of their lunch menu items. I don't think I will be disappointed.
I love going to The Broken Yolk. I take my parents twice a month. They're Tiki Toast is great. The waitresses are always nice. We've always been seated pretty quick.
My husband ordered us food to go a few weeks ago on a Thursday and I have to say that my husband was amazed by the excellent service he experienced. We love finding places that can communicate through sign language. My husband was fully prepared to go in there and write down what we wanted and hand it to the employee but as soon as he walked in and the employee realized he wasn't able to communicate orally she signed to him and told him that she knew a little sign language and if anything could fully understand fingerspelling. They were able to communicate with each other with no problems, she did a phenomenal job. He didn't get her name but we want to thank her for communicating with us through our language when she absolutely didn't have to. We hope to come back soon and actually eat at the restaurant. Delicious food and fast service!! To the young lady that helped us, thank you and we appreciate you, and I really hope you see this! You're the best and we hope that you continue studying and learning the language because from what my husband has gathered, you have a kind heart and it’s inspiring to see those who don’t have to communicate through sign language take the time to learn the language and want to communicate with those who need it.
Breakfast was great and great customer service
Always great customer service, food is great. My favorite place to eat. Recommend 💯
This is the best breakfast anywhere in the El Centro area, incredibly delicious recipes with lots of spicy options, traditional American and Mexican plates, great value, amazing vegan options (only restaurant that serves vegan JustEgg), super friendly service, and excellent coffee to boot. I drive 50 miles on Sundays just to come have breakfast here, but I'd be here everyday if I lived closer!!!
I really enjoyed the wide variety of selection on menu. Staff greeted us upon entry and made our entire experience comfortable. Servings are very generous. It was easy to ask for substitution. Many options of side dishes available. We had to bring home leftovers. Was thrilled to finish them later.😊
Good place for breakfast. Sevice was good & very fast too. The menu has a good selection. I had the Greek omelet & it was delicious! My coffee cup was always full & the orange juice tastes fresh. Highly recommend.
Every time we take a road trip from Lemon Grove to Phoenix we stop for breakfast at Broken Yolk Cafe in El Centro CA. We enjoy the food and appreciate the excellent service. My compliments to you Tracy Eyer and your team of awesome employees.👍
Once a week. Everytime would always get great service & the workers are amazing. They do all they can to make you feel welcomed and get thigs done for you and the way you want your food. It does get pretty busy at times, in the morning's its pretty slow unless you get big crowds then forget it. My whole experience is amazing they even know what drink I want before even asking me. LOOOOVE IT!
We had breakfast on Valentine's Day at the Broken Yoke. Our friends drove here from Albuquerque, New Mexico and met us there. It was not crowded until we got up to leave and there was about a 45 minute wait. The food and service was excellent!
Best brunch menu in imperial county! Delicious food, great service, indoor or outdoor seating. I'm an eggs Benedict fan, but you have to try the pancakes too. They are as big as the plate they are served on!
The food was delicious! I had the morning burger I think it was called. My family was jealous I didn't tell them about it. How do I get I get I get I get I don't think you will you be able to able to able to able to able to able to able to able to able to able to able to able to able to able to able to able to able to able to able to home depot for a good mood right to do is pack your cloths to the pool anymore and we can wait are not going through my so stupid sitting done on here is on on here is
Great place for breakfast, staff are nice and attentive. Would recommend to anyone.
Prices were reasonable. Server was Lilly. Sweetheart of a girl. Very knowledgeable about the menu and very kind. Provided some of the best service I have had in a long while.
Good food, huge portions, extra friendly wait staff!! Edited, I have ordered Broken Yolk from Doordash and Postmates a few times. The food always arrives cold, even though the delivery driver had arrived at the restaurant promptly. My last experience, my deliverer spent 45 minutes waiting for my food. She apologized profusely. My food was cold and soggy. In other occasions the omelets are so stuffed with ingredients you can't tell they are omelets. Super greasy housebrowns. Save your money and order IHOP or Dennys.
I haven't been here in a couple of years, and the food portions improved by alot, so now it feels not so bad paying $20 a dish when you get a large amount so you get lots of leftovers. Staff is really nice and attentive
Wow, after a long drive starting way too early in the morning for 15 minutes of court work, I needed some brekkie, and this place more than over delivered. Was greeted promptly, got seated promptly, food took a minute, but that was OK. The coffee was really good, and the service was exceptional. I hope it's like this at all locations because there's one in Temecula and I would love to take my family there. I had the border Benedict, the Carne asada was delicious, the eggs done just right and buried under some great sauce. The cornmeal cakes were delicious. Price is up there a smidge, but the food is well worth it. 5/5
Our waiter was very helpful and confirmed our theory that regular Bloody Mary's would be a better choice than the flight, he was correct!
Got there a little late (10 mins), so ordered after everyone else in my party. Thought I would be eating by myself, but my order was brought to me about two minutes after those with me. My waitress knew to tell the cooks about my order and to place it ahead of the others. That's what I call professional service 👏
Love BYC❣❣❣ Food is great. Love the rewards program. Staff is wonderful & very friendly. We even give them Christmas presents to show our appreciation. Been going there for about 10 or so years. Never had a problem with them. Always willing to help out any way they can. Even if we had ordered an item wrong they were still willing to fix it. Now what other restaurant will do that? Gotta love BYC❣❣❣
The veggie omelette was huge and delicious! The side blueberry muffin was tasty too:) They were short a waiter, but service wasn’t too bad. The only suggestion I would make is for the restaurant reconsider their pet policy. I wish they would allow dogs on their patio.
Great place for breakfast, portions served are plentiful so I usually share a meal with my better half. Service is great. There could be long lines on the weekend but that just speaks to the service and food! Recommended definitely!
Always a good choice for a hearty and savory breakfast and brunch. Ordered a full stack of lemon ricotta pancakes, completely delicious and huge.
Was a little busy, was seated in promptly, service was awesome, waitress was very accommodating and friendly. Food was brought out in a timely manner. Had the avocado toast with 2 poached eggs it was delicious. Atmosphere was great.
The music is a little too loud. But otherwise the portions are generous and the way the waiters hand you your drinks to the hand instead of the table is a little weird. But fine
Open From early morning til 2 pm if I can recall the hours. Emily, our server was great friendly ,quick and very attentive. Ordered our breakfast and man it was delish. Coffee taste good . Place was well maintained ,very clean. Our littles one got their meal and they actually ate it with no problem, i always have problems them eating any food period. But not today lol... I got the MOM Omelette, my husband got a skillet meal ,my mother in-law got MoM omelette dish as well. Bathrooms were clean the bathroom floors were very clean. I will definitely come back again. Also, the busser was awesome too They deserve recognition. Keep up the good work. Our bill was also very good 🙂 5 stars in my book.
Had a wonderful experience here. The food was very yummy. We got sweet and savory. Chilaquiles divorciados (that's half red and half green) with carne asada and topped with fried eggs. Delicious. And the Tiki Toast (I think that's what it's called) it's King's Hawaiian bread French toast with fresh fruit on top and coconut and caramel. Very good.
Very very good food, and coffee is great!! Service is prompt and beautiful customer service..
Beautiful place, the service was fast. And the staff is very kind! Our server Christina was very friendly and helpful! The food is super yummy, great hot chocolate! Their fries are perfectly crispy, they get 5 stars alone! - review by my 9 year old!
Nice place to have a breakfast or brunch with your favorite company. There was waiting list, but was understood because it was Valentine's Day.
Breakfast was delicious. Lemon ricotta pancake, egg croissant sandwich with all the fixings. Very generous portions, food cooked to perfection. Our server Norma couldn’t have been any nicer.
If I lived nearby I would eat here everyday. Amazing service and the best breakfast I've had in a while. Eggs were amazing, bacon crisp and flavorful. Staff was friendly, courteous and accommodating. Food portions large enough to feed an army. Would be my pleasure to revisit this location.
I really like this restaurant I have been happy with the service at the two locations I visited. This one went above and beyond and let us have our Pub in a quiet spot. Great food good service I highly recommend
We went there after visiting Dennis and being told that the wait was 30-40 minutes. We are glad we looked for this place. Even though they were also busy, they took us in less than 10 minutes. Our server was Trevor and he was awesome! The food was excellent too! My wife ordered the steak and eggs and lo and behold! It was cooked perfectly (Medium rare)! Which is very hard to find in breakfast places since they tend to overcook it, but here it was just perfect. We asked to speak to the Manager, Kendra, and she probably thought that we had a complaint, but was very friendly and polite too. She was relieved that we were complimenting the place. We travel from Arizona to California a lot so, this is definitely a place we will come back!
I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs. It was freshly made and tasted great. I ordered fruit on the side instead of hash browns. The fruit was fresh. The service was fast and friendly. Update: 30 OCT 22 Still great with no issues. I do have to remind servers at restaurants in this town to not overcook the eggs. Scrambled eggs should be yellow and cooked without the browning of excessive heat or cook time. One way to avoid this is by ordering egg whites or sending overcooked eggs back until cooked correctly. They almost always get it right the first time when you request a light scramble.
Oh man where do I start? From the moment I walked in, I was greeted, sat promptly and given a menu. The restaurant interior is clean, spacious and very organized. I always drive by this place after work and decided to try it out. I’m glad I did. Awesome service, and hearty, delicious food! Portions are generous. Come hungry. I definitely will be back!
Great breakfast place. Have many healthy options that look so good even for those not on a diet. Large portions and the staff is always so nice. They also have an outside seating great for the cooler weather.
Every time we come to El Centro we have breakfast here, it's has good quality food they serve some Mexican dishes like machaca, there service is reasonable and the only problem is that sometimes the parking can be a big crowded.
This place was so nice. Very clean and the servers were awesome. The food was delicious and fast. It was a little bit more expenses ve that I would expect from r a breakfast place but it is the only breakfast place in El Centro I know about.
Received great service, place was clean and food was great. I've been to a few different BY locations and this is up to par if not better than the others as far as open space, cleanliness & friendliness of staff.
The food was good and the service was great.
The food is very good and the service was good. My one complaint is that the food is way over priced. I got a half grilled cheese sandwich, a cup of tomato soup, and a salad for almost $15. The person I had lunch with got a chicken noodle soup for $5. The sodas there are almost $4. Overall the food was good just too overpriced
This would be a 5 except our server was.....inop. Or in his words... having a bad day. Dude made weird faces about our selections....never refilled coffee cups.....He was very polite, but maybe better suited to another type of work??? Menu is VERY awesome. HUGE servings. And DELICIOUS! We had Border Benedict and Savory Crepes, and a short stack of the Cinna-Cakes for the middle of the table. LOVED every bite.
They cook decent breakfast. I found the portions way too big. They did give me way too much caffeine, though I liked that. Didn't eat again till next morning. Maybe that's what put it toward a bit overpriced for breakfast.
Friendly waitress, good service.
Food was delicious, prices were reasonable, but the waitress on the other hand was lit. Moody, seemed like she didn't appreciate our request for items we needed or were missing...other than that it was great
Food was good but could be better. Too much salt on one of the meals and the Ranchero skillet had a little much too. Otherwise everything was great. The dirty caramel latte was fantastic. The service was great and employees were very helpful.
Great coffee, a little too much hollandaise sauce on the eggs Benedict
Food is really good, have to wait long time to get in but worth the wait.
The Broken Yolk is a solid American establishment in Imperial Valley. They have an extensive variety of breakfast and lunch options, ranging from omelettes, benedicts, pancakes, toasts, sandwiches and burgers. I personally am a huge fan of their Tiki toast, Wild West burger and Hawaiian fried chicken burger!
Excellent cafe!!!!! Hostess very nice, smiled, quick to seat us. Waitress wonderful. Amiable. Great personality. Never been here before and she made me feel at home. Bus boy fantastic!!!! Quick. Clean. Spot on. Amiable. Everyone professional Giving it a 4-star only because my egg was “over hard” and I requested “medium”. That said, I scarfed it down as it was superbly fried!!! Delish Highly recommend this particular Broken Yolk” (Even though I forgot to take pictures). LOL One egg, sour dough toast was $4.00 Friend’s included 2 eggs and hash browns for $7.35 Coffee? $2.95 Enjoy!!
Im a regular customer at this location, service is great but my favorite dish needs improvement (biscuits and gravy) bisquit was cold, gravy dont taste good, like coming out of a can.
Came in for lunch - restaurant was quiet & clean. Staff was friendly. Decent menu with plenty of choices but not over -cluttered with too many choices. Ordered coffee & water, the Gaslamp with sweet potato fries and a pancake (yes, random... I know). Coffee was decent, but had to ask for both refills. Fries were cooked nicely. Sandwich was ok... thick, deli sliced turkey with fresh sprouts & avocado. Pancake was bland & rubbery. Somewhat disappointed in my first visit here. I'll give it another try during breakfast hours since time, but if service and food is the same then won't make it a regular stop.
I ordered the sopes with eggs and machaca, with a side of refried beans. The beans were tasteless. The waitress would check on us here and there but not the best service. The room was freezing cold that it was hard to enjoy eating my meal. I did let the manager know of these issues so hopefully there is improvement.
Golden state eggs Benedict is we ate. Service was good food was good. Prices felt a tad high. Coffee was good. I'll most likely return.
First time visiting. The hostess was very friendly at entering and at paying. Waitress seemed to not want to be working today. My Arnold palmer tasted as if the lemonade had gone bad. Told the waitress, she brought me another. Did not have enough utensils for each person. The food was good. Flavors are as any other breakfast place. Not sure if I'll be returning. Update: owner commented. Seems they don't read the reviews just glance at the stars SMH
I had not been to this spot in a few years, and it’s so much better than I remember it. It’s a nice little place to get some brunch with family or friends. The menu has a variety of options somewhat like every other dinner. Except this is one of the few breakfast places in the Valley where you can get alcoholic beverages, which is nice. I had the mimosa flight and it came with different flavors, (orange and pomegranate was my favorite). For breakfast, I took a chance and went with the huevos rancheros, they were alright, lacked a bit of flavor and not the best I’ve had but I honestly didn’t expect anything authentic or phenomenal. However, I did try some of the chilaquiles that my sister ordered and they were way better. The cinnamon pancakes were delicious and sweet if that’s something you’re craving. I have also tried the Eggs Benedict and that has been my favorite by far.
This place is good place to eat it has a lot of traffic and the food is good there is always room for improvement things I like was decoration, atmosphere. They make good omelets. Waiting period is sometimes high but is expected on Sunday morning waiting times vary from 10 min to 45 minutes. Everything looks clean. The customer service can improve a bit. A idea that might change my review to 5 stars is leaving the coffee on the table. Prices are fair food was made quickly and prompt. Will recommend I wouldn't say it the best place in El centro but definitely top 3 in the valley. I Hop is also a good contender.
My best friend and I went to have brunch at this location and the food was okay. The grilled cheese sandwich looked very depressing and a hair was in it. The waitress was kind enough to bring me another sandwich in which I requested the tuna instead. The sandwich was very bland, my friend said her tuna sandwich reminded her of hospital food. The house salad was great, the tomato soup was okay. Probably won't go back.
If you want to eat somewhere with good food but have to apologize to the server for any requests, this is the place to go. I have previously complained directly with the manager regarding server Jaclyn S. and her rudeness. My husband and I do not appreciate going to a restaurant where a server scoffs and rolls her eyes on you upon any request. I simply asked the server if I could get a little more gravy for the biscuit I had ordered and she rolled her eyes and scoffed as she walked away. Who would want to continue eating at an establishment where you are made to feel unwelcome?
Stopped by Thurs a.m. before heading home to L.A. waitress was not welcoming, unfriendly, forcefully asked if mom wanted coffee refills, about 4x. She'd look away when asking & pouring, just very unpleasant. Mom's omelet plate was a generous portion, my plate eggs, short stack, bacon fell short, served borderline cold (was sitting most likely) pancakes were very very dry, bacon close to burnt. $56 for two, 1st time at this location and probably last.
Food was too greasy, I couldn’t even finish my meal barely touched it, and Sprite tasted weird. Is a beautiful restaurant and not too much noise, just food wasn’t how I expected
Disappointed in the inattentive staff yesterday. Sat at the counter, and sat, and sat. Six servers bustling around 3-8 feet in front of me, chatting, filling creamers, refilling silverware. Everything but paying attention to a customer sitting at the counter. Looked at my watch. Thought about leaving, but was curious as to how long it would take for someone to ask if I might actually need something...coffee, menu, whatever. Gave it five minutes and then asked the girl (standing in front of me, no less,) "is anyone WORKING this counter!?" My irritation was evident. To her credit, she apologized profusely and quickly got me a coffee and a menu. Soon after, the other kid (who was supposed to be manning the counter) took my order. He apologized. I didn't take it seriously, since he was one of the group running his mouth while I sat there for several minutes. My eggs benedict were very good, and I will miss them in the future since I won't be back. Management failure here. If your servers are this inattentive, there are other issues with your establishment that customers won't see.
I was very disappointed with the food here, price and even service. We had a burrito, french toast, pancakes, eggs, and bacon. The bill was $44!!! Omg!! The pancakes were the worse tasting pancakes I have ever come accross. Yes they were big but completely flavorless. The only thing that was decent was my bacon and eggs. The place seemed cleaned upon arrival but when I sat at the booth it smelled like a egg gone bad. I noticed it was the table so I asked my waitress if my table could be cleaned. She was nice and had a male go to my table. He had a white damp towl and wiped my side of the table and said, "what do you want me to do? This is all I could do" I said it was okay and just to wipe the entire table. He said this with a bad attitude and I did not like it. A simple sanitizer or any kind of cleaner could have been sprayed and then wiped. It smelled like a dirty dish left with egg in it. To me taste is important but when service is not good either, it leaves much to be desired. The smell did not go away. The food was not good. And this guy made it that much worse. I will not be returning ever. I would have had a much more flavorful breakfast for half the price in a clean place w good service around the corner at "farmer boys." My lesson was learnt. Never again....
Very overpriced across the board. I was expecting a lumberjack sized meal for the $11.45 price and was served a Denny's Value Menu portion. Atmosphere is ok and the restaurant is clean.
Poor customer service. Take out order for pancakes and they don’t provide syrup. Best they can offer is an apology that it’s been a busy morning and ask if I’m willing to go back to pick up some syrup.
They will serve you the dryest chilaquiles you've ever seen and if you ask for more salsa so that it is actually chilaquiles, they add an up charge for that. I guess they don't know what chilaquiles actually is...Fine, take it out of the tip. But thats like ordering a burger somewhere, getting it at the table without a bun, then being charged extra when you ask for a bun. Oh well. Also ordered a Monte Cristo that the menu said comes with raspberries, but none were delivered. I'm guessing the cooks from this joint ran off to McDonalds once that 20$ minimum wage law for fast food was made. Even the wait staff realizes they can get paid more at McDonalds being the person who takes the bag out to the car rather than adding rediculous upcharges that reduce their tips. The only reason this place does ok is because there are so few options in the valley.
Management is a disgrace, would leave 0 of I could. Drove a bit to get to this location. Gave 3 days notice of a group breakfast and was told it would be no problem. Little did we know that they dont do large parties and if you do large parties it all has to be on 1 check "policy". We spoke to the manager and was given a shrug and was told "it's just the way it is". Horrible customer service, disrespectful employees and horrible communication skills. Will not be recommending to anyone again and will not return.
The food was good but our waitress was the worst!!!. She Helped EVERYONE Else And Would finally Make Her Way By Our Table Just To Look At US Ask The Next Table What They needed. She needs training on mannerism and being a waitress! I left her a tiny tip in hopes she sees the result of her LACK of customer service. Lauren was her name.
We arrived at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday. Although it was hot, we wanted to sit outside. There was only one occupied table outside, and we were quoted a 30 minute wait. Instead, we went to Burgers and Beer; always my favorite.
I ate here when they first opened, it was okay. This last visit was terrible though. Servers were nice. Just the food was terrible. I had the carne asada benedict thing. The meat tasted boiled and bland and welldone (i asked for medium). Eggs were overdone. It made me a tad sick after. Im pretty sure if that is due to unsanitary conditions or it could've been my disgust for the food. My wife's waffles were fine. Hard to screw those up.
Bland, dry, boring food. No matter the location, all of the Broken Yolk Cafe restaurants have the worst food. How can a place that specializes in breakfast overcook an omelet? I've given them multiple chances at multiple locations over the years and they're all awful. Never again!
The food was not well prepared. Taste was bland, but over spiced mexican food. Service was like pulling teeth. Had to keep calling the waitress for coffee and water refills. Only time she rushed to our table was to pick up payment. They had so many servers huddled around cash register. Prices are too high for simple bad made food, and unsatisfactory service. Will not return.
This is the worst place ever for bringing your dog. Go to the broken yolk in Yuma or San Diego. Don’t waste your time going to this location. Also they assumed & never verified if my dog was a service dog. We have no problems at other locations. The manager was very rude! We went over to burgers & beer & they welcome us in with our pet. I will never come back to this broken yolk again!!!
Get the Mexican food right and less chemical tortilla use original flour. BUT (KEYWORD BUT) The service was aswome very kind people I appreciate it AND Atmosphere was aswome too really great chill calm vibes. Not chaos like other restaurants.
I had a deeply upsetting experience during one of my visits. As a Mexican woman, I was shocked and hurt by the racism I encountered—especially in a community like Imperial Valley, where our culture is so rooted and present. I overheard one of the managers say, “I hate Mexicans,” which was not only offensive but incredibly disturbing given the current climate and fear surrounding ICE raids. It’s unacceptable for a business to hold or express these kinds of views, especially when serving a largely Mexican community. I will not be returning, and I hope others think twice before supporting a place where hate is tolerated—let alone expressed by those in charge. I was only there for 1 hour and can see it was hostile environment. I feel sad for the good people who work there.
