Service here was good. The staff consists mainly of high school/college students who were all kind and attentive. Despite the amount of people there was, the food got out quickly. It was not the best piece of fish I’ve ever had but it was tasty & fresh. The veggies, also fresh, but could use some more seasoning. Parking outside was free. Overall, really good experience.

Hands down 5stars! The fish was great, my wife ordered the fish shop shrimp And it was so yummy we bought some of the Rub to take him with us! The atmosphere was great the staff was very friendly and knew their stuff they have the open building feel with the front of the building being open so we sat at the sidewalk and watch the passer byes go by. Definitely will be returning in the future soon

Encinitas fish shop is one of the OGs of this restaurant service model. Choose your fish, choose how it’s flavored, choose the format (taco, salad, sandwich). It’s fresh delicious fish at a fair price. Two tacos is plenty to fill me up since the portions are sturdy, and I don’t feel like I just ate a fast food meal while spending a similar amount of time and money. Come check it out!

We ate there/had takeaway 6 times in our 8-day visit😍, and never tired of it. And this time, we brought home the Fish Shop Seasoning! (They added in more sidewalk seating.) 2019: We love Encinitas Fish Shop. First of, they do have a small parking lot adjacent to the building but street parking in Encinitas is pretty easy in the afternoon. They have 3 dining areas, sidewalk, patio and inside. Good beer selection, crayons and sheets for kids... and then spot-the-heck-on, amazing tacos. You can mix and match or order a special. I love the Spicy Dorado with a mix and match but I need to explore even more. My husband has never been a fish fan but an SD friends recommended and he fell in love with the TKO. Just terrific! We visit SoCal about 2x a year now and this is a given. Plus, a location in Pacific Beach.

Fresh great quality seafood, good menu and perfect portions. We ordered “fish shop seasoning swordfish plate, teriyaki red snapper plate, fish and chips, blackened mahi sandwich and fish stew”. Teriyaki seasoning was a bit salty and not what I expected it to be so I really didn’t enjoy that as much. Everything else was great and staff was very nice. Plenty of seating inside/outside but limited parking.

Um first off the small soup is NOT small. Delish and very generous in portions. Scallops were perfectly cooked not over cooked and dry. Super moist and great light flavor to highlight the scallops natural texture and flavor. Highly recommend. Service was friendly and personable. My friend and I came on a wed night and reconnected for 3 hours outside. Super chill and relaxed. Order at the counter and just relax.

Went for my lunch so i was limited on time. It was a bit of wait in the line but the food was served in a timely manner. The food was amazing great sandwiches. The atmosphere is great also you have options to sit out in the open or dine inside. Great service.

Our second time here in the last several years when in Encinitas, and it's still a great place for our seafood fix! Order at the counter and sit down for them to bring out your food order. This time, we tried the surf and turf tacos, fish and chips, and a dozen oysters. The food was so fresh and delicious as was our previous experience. Patio seating is pleasant for dinner and inside has seating and one side is a bar area with plenty of TVs to catch a game. Service is always courteous and friendly. I appreciated the manager letting us know about the local beers available as well as the options for wine offerings. There can be a line during peak hours, but be patient since those fish tacos and beer are worth it. See you at the Fish Shop on our next trip.

Their coconut shrimp and ceviche (either shrimp or mahi mahi) are to die for. I'm not even a seafood fan but I always want to go here. Also the spicy dorado taco isa must. Always fresh, great quality and delicious. Service is fantastic and everyone here is some friendly. Never disappoints!!

Fish Tacos are great! Had a fried mahi mahi and salmon belly tacos. Fish is really fresh! Chowder was on the bland side but added crackers and black pepper and it was delicious.

This is such a wonderful place. The food is amazing and the staff is always happy. We have been coming to this place for several years and it is always consistently great! Their sandwiches are delicious and the fries are plentiful. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for fresh seafood prepared in a multitude of ways!

Came highly recommended by a friend who grew up out in the area, and it did not disappoint one bit. Love all the options that you can create your own experience best catered to your tastes. Make sure you buy a shaker of their seasoning to go, you'll put it on everything (we do!)

I’ve known this place for many years and I’m really happy to see how much they’ve grown. There’s nothing to lose here — all the food is fresh and really good. It has a relaxed atmosphere, perfect to go with friends or family. Last time I tried the clam chowder and I loved it.

We stopped in after running some errands in the area. We had our Doug with us and they were very welcoming with him on the patio. It was very comfortable with the overhead heaters since it was a little bit chilly that day. These are by far one of the best fish tacos in the area. Everyone is so friendly there and very accommodating. We highly recommend trying out their fish tacos. But, everything is truly fabulous so you can’t miss whatever you order. Thank you!

Revisited: I really wish I didn't have to travel all of the way to CA to eat here! Had the sea bass with Chipotle seasoning on a salad and it just melted in my mouth. Added a cup of clam chowder and was simply in heaven! This place has a great atmosphere for casual, outdoor dining. It took a while to decide what to order because they have so many good choices! I had the red snapper with the fish seasoning on a salad. The fish seasoning was a little saltier than I preferred. I personally would try one of their other seasonings next time. My hubby got the fish and chips which were awesome. My son got some fish tacos which were also very tasty. Wait staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely dine here again!

Corn taco on corn tortilla, blackened sword fish taco on flour tortilla. Both delicious. The corn taco had a little kick of spice. But I added Cholula condiment😁🌶. For my side of green salad I requested the citrus vinegarette. It was a bit too thick so I asked for some olive oil. I mixed it in the vinegarette container and shook, shook, shook. The consistency was better to my liking and expanded the dressing to make enough for the whole salad. It was a fresh, tasty lunch. Yum😋

We had fish and chips featuring their local halibut. Need I say more? Great options to choose from as far as seasonal offerings. This was a ten!!! Don't get me started on their mixology chops, or the fact that you can take their SEASONAL specials and modify them into the SOLID OFFERINGS they already deliver day-to-day with the menu. No extra charge. WONDERFUL!!! By the way, bring the pooch...

Wow! This place is absolutely delicious. We ordered the column Mari a couple beers a kids meal a salad and two tacos and the bill came to about $64. The calamari was Chris and not greasy and served with a red sauce and tartar. The mixed green salad came with capers which I happen to love and pickled onions. Each of the tacos came with lime slices which were wonderful the sprinkle over the tacos. I have to say the absolute best part of all of it was that lemon butter swordfish tacos which really were define. It wasn’t a very long line to order at 7pm. The staff was very helpful for advice on what to order. And it was easy to find a place to sit. The nice thing is you go to the counter to order and they bring you the food.

This was the perfect place for dinner. my husband and I tried a few things. I loved my Elote Taco and the crab cake sandwich was delicious. We split a bowl of clam chowder, so creamy. I had a house margarita and my husband enjoyed tea. We look forward to coming here again the next time we visit Encinitas/ Carlsbad

We love going to the Fish shop in Encinitas and elsewhere in San Diego. They have the freshest seafood and most delicious food. We had the seabass fish plate with fries and coleslaw and red snapper chipotle glazedwith onion rings and seaweed salad and they were both juicy and out of this world tasty. We will definitely come back!

Fish and chips - fish was great, chips weren’t. Swordfish plate (lemon butter) with seasonal veggies and a salad (citrus vinaigrette) - amazing, salad could have had less capers. Coconut shrimp - not the best I’ve had, but good enough. Mahi Mahi ceviche - AMAZING As for atmosphere, it could have been better. I left with sticky shoes because something had been spilled on the ground and never cleaned. The bathroom was also awful. I asked the bar tender if he could turn on the space heater, he said yes and then never did.

Love this local spots and the experience. You get to choose the way you want to cook then pair it with your favorite fish or seafood. Lots of sauce and drinks/beer options as well. The space is very local, rustic but definitely a vibe. Everything tastes fresh and delicious, great place for a quick bite in between the bike rides or bring the family and friends over.

The sides were good but the main event was the fish (obviously) and their seasoning. I'd recommend the tacos! Cool atmosphere with outdoor tables and big open windows/doors to make the inside feel a bit like outside too.

Got the diablo fish tacos 🌮, they were decent, fresh fish. Bowl of clam chowder, thickness and hearty, needed a little salt and pepper. Salmon sandwich 🥪 was a good size. Onion rings were big and good as well.

We visited on a busy Saturday afternoon around 2:30 pm, and although there was a line, the wait was short—within 10 to 15 minutes, we were able to place our order. My kids especially enjoyed the crab and shrimp tacos. The food portions were generous, and everything was well seasoned. The green salad was fresh and tasty, and the mahi mahi ceviche, though listed as a small portion, was substantial and came with delicious tortilla chips. Will definitely return in the future!

A must stop when you are in Encinitas! The blackened red snapper was amazing! Fresh, flavorful and the portion was perfect. Fish taco was crunchy with a nice size piece of fish and also grilled to perfection. Onion rings were good, not great and the rice was just ok. The clam chowder bread bowl was delicious and creamy and my wife and I both loved the fresh bread it was served in. Great draft beer selection with indoor/outdoor seating. We will eat here every time we are in the area.

There’s something special (good) about this fish shop.. compared to most places around this area they offer a wide variety of menu options, ensure the food is prepared with care, and attracts a pretty cool crowd. Come in, select your fish, select a glaze, an appetizer or two, a beverage and relax while they prepare it fresh. The teriyaki salmon was great, paired with crispy calamari, and a side of broccoli made for a very pleasant afternoon with friends.

Great lunch spot out in Encinitas. The line was out the door around 1-2ish. Very nice, fresh fish. Can be grilled or fried. They have an enclosed patio with a bar as well as outside shaded patio. Had an ahi sandwich with chipotle glaze. I liked it but I think the glaze could have been stronger or at least maybe more of it. Would recommend and probably go again.

I love this place and style of restaurant. I got red snapper on a salad and it hit the spot. I shared onion rings as well. Very good! The fish shop stew is outstanding! Highly recommended. I did not like the fish shop chowder. All I tasted was flour from the roux. Overall, it’s a fantastic place.

Our family frequents the Encinitas Fish Shop. The fish is consistently fresh and delicious. It has a very casual, beach vibe fun to go with friends. We love the poke bowel, blackened salmon salad and El Dorado and El Elote tacos. This is the only place my picky kids will eat fish willingly :). We love it here!

Top place in North County to find a wide variety of seafood. The Fish Shop shrimp is a must if you like shrimp. Sandwiches are probably best bang for your buck. I like the specialty tacos. They’re also known for customizations, so they’ll let you do (almost) anything. It’s the best.

This place made me so happy! Half laid-back bar, half cute seafood counter so you can pick your fish and style it your way. We sat outside with our pup, enjoyed crispy coconut shrimp, and devoured the fish and chips (snapper was my fave). Sweet, crunchy, beachy perfection. Soooo yummy 😃😋 i came here because of the reviews about the onion rings and they are soooo good 😋😋❤️ even as i was eating i got five people asking about the onion rings 😂❤️. But also their fish shop shrimp was the best seasoning , at first i didn't know if Cajun and brown sugar would work but it was soo delicious because the brown sugar was the crispy bits on the shrimp 😋😋❤️ and the clam chowder was delicious too , i wish that was a bigger portion 🤣❤️ this place is soo inviting and clean and trash cans everywhere so there is no trash on the ground 😎 i like that they have indoor seating and outdoor seating 😎 the staff was beyond friendly and helpful ❤️🥰 their restrooms are really clean for being so small . The only thing that is a little trouble is the parking lot ...... One side is good and the other side is too small for a truck or van , i saw some parked there and was like whoaa how are they going to get out 😮🤷 there is also street parking too .

I had the daily catch Fish n Chips. The batter is super light and crispy, and the fish melted like butter. Great beers on tap, bottles available, and wines. A lo line formed, but the wait after is short, and food comes out hot. Lots of outdoor seating with heat lamps for the cooler days, plenty of indoor seating as well. Staff was quick and friendly. Everyone had a smile despite how busy they were.

My brother-in-law recommended this place. I was excited for the fresh fish. As you walk into the Fish Shop some fish is exposed for you to see. We all ordered different things. We all loved it except my mom. She was looking forward to eating fresh fish. The fish stew was way too spicy for her and for me, but it didn't say so anywhere. We ended up sharing some food with my mom because it is rare that she says she can't eat something. I had the sea bass, My side dishes came, but my sea bass they forgot to add it but they brought it ourlt pretty quickly. It was cooked perfectly. My daughter had 2 different tacos with the lobster and scallops made to perfection (she won't stop talking about how good they were). My husband isn't a fish person so he went with fish and chips. My brother-in-law's family had another variety and they were kind enough to let us taste their dishes.

It was so good. We got it on their shrimp as well. Delicious. The calamari was good, but the ring portions were lacking the flavor of the tentacles were very good. French fries were our choice for the side with the sandwich. They were average. Could use some spice or something to jazz them up bit. On the other hand the crab cake was so yummy. Glad we added that to our order. We will go back as there are several things we want to try like the ceiviche.

Great vibe in Encinitas and awesome oyster deal! El dorado taco was nothing to write home about and honestly a bit of a disappointment. Will probably return for the oysters in the future and maybe try out a different taco. Honestly it’s a bit of a touristy spot.

A favorite spot for locals at this bustling, long tables, order yourself place. Fresh oysters, seafood, tacos, ice cold beer, wine, and sitting next to strangers elbow to elbow is a great way precursor to a nice stroll at the beach just steps away. Also many nice shops and tourist enticements along both sides of the coast highway.

Very tasty place to eat. Not too touristy, friendly staff. It’s nice you come and make your order, then find a place to eat. Good views and a good place to people watch. Close to the beach, free parking. I had the Mahi sandwich, my wife had the coconut shrimp. We’ll worth the visit. Total for the meal was around thirty bucks.

Best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time... and I’m a connoisseur haa ha! Great casual vibe for lunch or dinner. My mom wanted to make sure we had a regular table and not high stools so we got there a little early, as seats are first come, first serve. Great assortment of local San Diego craft beers!

Here is my thoughs on this restaurant. There was plenty of seating despite the place being very busy. It was so busy, there was a line out the door to order. I ordered the fish and chips, it's really good, but I would say Chef John's is a lot better.

Shrimps, oysters, soup, calamari rings were really good, but fish&chips were disappointing for my kids: overcooked and ugly, my plate with ahi fish were nothing special. That’s why my rate is 4.

Food was delicious as always. The onion rings were especially tasty treat. Everyone enjoyed their food very much, I got the scallops. Great drinks selection. We did have to wait over an hour to order standing in line, and the restaurant is pretty loud inside. But the employees were very nice and helpful And even switched out some unwanted food for us.

Great little fish joint. Our table has a good mix of dishes. We had a salmon plate, fish and chips, swordfish and lobster tacos, and a couple other things. All of the food tastes great and we were all satisfied with portion sizes and quality of the food. Unfortunately, I ended up with food poisoning. Can't be sure it was from this place, but that's the last meal I had before.

Solid 4 star place. You order at the counter and have a wide variety of seafood, seasoning/sauces, and sides. We tried the mahi mahi, snapper, and shrimp- all well seasoned and grilled. A little pricey but 1. It’s seafood and 2. They are large portions for the seafood plates- good sized piece of fish and the salad, fries, and onion rings came in huge portions. It’s seat yourself with picnic table, bar, and normal table seating. The second half of the restaurant is open air but they have nice heaters above you. They have a decent selection of wines and beers as well. Good for various size parties but like all order at the counter places, seating depends on the time of day you come and eat.

Food was good for sure. Visiting from out of town and I wanted to bring my family over to try something local, and this won out the competition based on others' reviews. The service was so-so as it felt more of a fast casual restaurant akin to a Panera than a sit down restaurant. I honestly wasn't sure what to expect, but that's what it's like. Overall, if I'm in the area again, I might go here again.

Great spot for fish tacos and plenty of options. Service was great and plenty of seating. The flavors were good but not amazing. The corn tortillas were thick and hearty but not fresh. The Taco Stand down the street serves authentic Mexican tacos and this place served more “gringo” versions. 6 pieces of shrimp seemed too little. Very flavorful.

We were brought to this restaurant by locals who visit it often. It certainly met expectations. As you enter, you walk up to the order counter, where there are about 10 choices of fish displayed in an iced chilled, glass cooler. Once you choose your preference and sides, your meal is brought to the table when ready. Service is very fast, food is well prepared, staff is courteous. I chose the halibut, grilled, with lemon butter. There are several options for sauces. The restaurant is dog friendly! Our group of 8 had no problem with seating. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

I’ve heard such great things about the Fish Shop, so I finally gave it a try. I will start by saying all the seafood seemed to be very fresh and cooked to perfection. However, I took off 2-stars because I found everything to be extremely salty and a tad overpriced. I’m not sure if they were having an off day in the kitchen or perhaps I ordered wrong, but it was a sodium overload. I left feeling extremely thirsty. For reference, I ordered the Diver Scallops with Blackened Seasoning, the Fish Shop Shrimp (recommended by the cashier) and the special of the day Fajita Shrimp Taco. I had high hopes for this place, but I can’t say that I’m jumping with joy to go back.

Food was okay, my fish and chips could have been warmer, also it seemed a little chewy for fresh fish. The crab cake was mostly ‘filler’. All the doors and windows were wide open on a chilly evening - not too cozy.

I came here on a Saturday night and it wasn’t too crowded with some seating still available. Ordered some of the speciality tacos you see on the right side of the menu board and while I thought the tacos had good ingredients, I didn’t really like it. It seemed like the staff didn’t really want to be there and it showed in the taste is how I want to describe it. Maybe it’s just a bad night, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back honestly over my other usual spots.

The food is OK it’s A bit tasteless and chintzy for 25 bucks. The margarita was just OK but other people have said the Aperol drink is much better.

Take a seat, look at the menu, go to the counter to order your food. It is free seating, no staff to bring you to your seat. There is a good number of fish to choose from, and the fresh fish is on display. My party had fried fish and chips, grilled fish and chips, sea bass with fish shop seasoning, and sides of coleslaw, and macaroni salad, jumbo shrimp taco with chipotle glaze, and fried calamari. All the food were cooked well, but seasoned with slightly too much salt. The fried calamari could have been better. The restaurant gives me more of sports bar vibe. The ambience is a little laid back. Feels more of youngsters hang out place.

I agree with other reviewers, and that the fish taco is filled with mostly lettuce and sauces, and a small piece of fish that I couldn’t tell even what it was since I ordered two different fishes. And the price has gotten ridiculous. Two fish tacos, a Poké bowl, a glass of wine and a beer cost me $85. I like the vibe here, but not sure. I’ll be back anytime soon. Like most places, the post Covid dining experience is really disappointing.

The food actually tasted really good!!! Especially the coleslaw, which was fresh and flavorful not mayo based but the fish and chips platter was disappointing. The portion of fish was tiny, more like a few fish sticks than a full filet, and it wasn’t cheap. Since it’s breaded, you’re getting even less actual fish than it looks like. For the price, I expected much better portions. I wouldn’t go back on purpose.

We didn't have a great experience at Encinitas Fish Shop, no other way to put it. I didn't like the long line/wait, my partner had to endure, just to place our food order. While she was doing that, I mosied over to the bar area. The person behind the counter was friendly & quick to serve me. She poured a perfect pour of my Societe Pupil IPA, which was the only beer on tap here, that interested me, from their 10 or so, draft beer choices. I then chose a table, out on the front patio, to sit. There are 2 fairly sizable dining rooms inside the restaurant, plus a long rectangular patio space, with quite a few tables, out front. It was nice, sunny afternoon, so I chose this outdoor area, to eat our lunch. I'd finished perhaps a third of my beer, when my partner arrived at our table. She was clearly frazzled at the long wait, to order. First food to come out, was a large order of their Onion Rings-an impressive mountain of plump, golden brown rings, which unfortunately, were hardly lukewarm. Also arriving, was a bowl of their Clam Chowder, my better half ordered. This soup was nowhere near hot, either. Both of these were sent back. The person delivering the food apologized &, told us he'd remedy the situation. It took quite awhile, to get the hot, improved versions of each dish. You'd think they'd put a rush on these, considering the circumstances. In the meantime, a server brought out my Fish & Chips. There were 4 finger-size round pieces of fish, that had a crisp breading, & were fried just right, with moist & tasty fish inside. The French fries, on the other hand, weren't hot, at all. So, 3 out of 4 foods we ordered, arrived to our table in an unappetizing, not-even-warm state. I didn't send the fries back, since the re-done Onion Rings & Clam Chowder showed up then, & I wanted to try the hot version of the rings. There was just too much breading on these attractive-looking onion rings. The texture, where the breading was the thickest, created an almost soggy-feeling bite. These rings, for the most part, weren't crisp at all, like onion rings are, at their very best. The Clam Chowder was at least hot this time, but nothing special, flavor-wise. The chowder needed more and larger pieces of clams, more spices, more flavor of the sea, & more & larger potato chunks, would've also improved this chowder. We had a disappointing lunch here. I'm not sure, if I'll come back.

The Fish Shop used to be great but has become hugely inconsistent. We mostly get takeout and there is either something missing, an incorrect item or issue of some kind. This Saturday night, we ordered fish shop shrimp, 2 surf and turf tacos, and blackened ago with salad. The ahi was brown - totally overcooked and inedible. It’s not the first time and for the past few months, every other meal had been disappointing. At $75 for two people with tip and no drinks, it’s not worth the hassle anymore.

Microwave magic :/. My fish came cold the other two dishes were great I let them know they brought out the same fish microwaved zero flavor from veggies rice or fish. Would have preferred a refund or to bae it remain properly, but ahi was decent and chowder wasn’t bad.

Last night, 12/27, we called in an order so that we could make it to an event in time. We attempted to order a glass of wine at the bar. The bar tender totally ignored us and went on talking to other patrons. When we finally called out to him to ask for a glass of wine, he proceeded to strongly reprimand us for sitting our take-out bag at a table. He said it wasn't fair to all the people in line to order, even though most of the tables were empty. He said he would get to us, but after waiting about 15 minutes we left. His attitude was arrogant and rude.

They charged $25 for a single, BURNT, crab cake. No sides. A single, tiny, fried to hell so that there was no crab meat to be tasted. They had the nerve to charge another $5 for a side of vegetables. This is a seafood restaurant?! Absolutely disappointed. Never again. Don’t waste your time

While starving and waiting for my to-go order at fish shop to be ready, I took a couple bites of pizza I had gotten earlier (we were sampling multiple spots). The manager, Evan, aggressively told my friend while glowering at me: “tell her to stop eating that pizza. If you don’t tell her, I will and it won’t be nice.” Being told professionally not to consume food from another restaurant is fine (although the restaurant after welcomed it) but what was with the weird aggression? He also aggressively asked if we had alcohol (everyone was sober and holding unopened soda while waiting for to-go orders). What exactly was he threatening when he said he wouldn’t be nice? Curse? Yell? Kick me out? I regret not asking, but none of us will be going back to find out. Hoping the owner will let me know how to contact them as the manager wouldn’t tell us how to get in touch with his boss. The seafood lumpia was mediocre but my friends liked the clam chowder and ceviche well enough.
