Not the best experience today. It took over an hour to get our food at lunch. Our waiter rarely checked on us and they billed us for an additional dish. They also messed up some of our order. The food didn't seem as good as it was before they closed. Hopefully this was a one time incident. Update : Gave Hunan's another try (they are a Fortuna staple). The experience was much better. The staff was friendly and attentive. Our dishes were fresh and flavorful. Well done.
I really liked the food. My wife always special orders her food. It seems to be never simple. Her food came exactly right. The food had great seasonings. The vegetables were not mushy. I was pretty thirsty. It really bugs me when I ask our server to leave a pitcher of water so that I can refill my own glass and they aren't willing to and then ignore my empty glass. She left a carafe of ice water for me. Plus, plus for her. The food came very quickly. The prices were fair. We took leftovers home that were still very good the next morning. My wife wanted to eat there again, time and scheduling didn't permit this trip. But we will eat there again next time we pass through.
Great portion sizes for the price! Food was fresh and delicious. Will be returning!
The service here is great. I usually call my order in for pick up, and it is always ready within the time frame they give you. The food tastes great. My husband and I eat here about once a month and have rarely had a bad experience. It's a great place to bring family and groups of people for lunch or dinner. I recommend eating here if you are local or even if you are just visiting.
Our only local human restaurant and they have AMAZING food. Always Hot fresh & delectable. Yum yum yum. 😋 A must go to for sure, no disappointments. I love their prawns with Chinese peas and honey walnut prawns, broccoli beef and we'll... EVERYTHING is a Hit! Highly Recommend
Had a family style meal with five courses. Everything was delicious and well presented. Lovely atmosphere great place for large groups to share and experience new flavors.
Arguably the best chow mein I’ve ever had. We had the Hunan chow mein.
Great surprise. Ate a late lunch of appetizers only. The food was hand prepared! Couldn't drink my glass down without a server filling it again with water. Left with extra food for tomorrow!
Beef chow main all day from this place. 😋 Never disappoints . Owner is a sweet heart ❤️
Standard Chinese food! Pretty tasty and very quick. I enjoyed the lemon chicken
This is one of those places that has that great Chinese lunch special that's hard to find these days. Been the town favorite for years!
My wife and I loved the food at this restaurant. We especially loved the Chicken Chow Meln that came with each meal. My favorite menu choice was General Tso's Chicken. She loved several less spicy menu choices, all good. The atmosphere and ambiance is okay, clean but rather cold. Go for lunch. Get the free Salad Bar.
We have a good time there, we had some wonton soup, handmade dumplings, sweet sour chicken, chowmein (beef version) and some tea, would come again!
Not once have I ever had a complaint. If you're looking for quality for what you pay for, this is a great place. I have never gotten food poisoning, and everyone I've talked to has been nice and understanding. Bigger portion sizes, bigger flavor, well balanced and fully cooked food. Pictured are photos of the Cashew Prawn, Broccoli Beef, Paper chicken, and Lemon chicken.
Hunan Village is better than ever these days! I ordered a few dishes to go and they were all piping hot, great quality, and most of all, delicious. Service at the front counter was very friendly - I was all around very pleased. I highly recommend the Chinese chicken salad and General's spicy chicken.
Pretty standard Chinese food. Restaurant was clean, well lit with wheelchair accessible parking and restrooms. Staff was nice.
Great lil spot for Chinese food. Really good service, and the pricing is good for California. They serve tea and have a little lemon in the water. Very nicely done.

My girlfriend took me here and best Chinese food ever... very authentic egg rolls! Unfortunately, the young lady serving us was not very good, but she wasn't the worst just she was busy talking to the busboy and not really paying attention, not very friendly had to ask for what we needed when we could find her. The food is really good.We went for lunch and it was unbelievable how much we were given! The portions are large and really good. I'd totally recommend this place to any and everyone.
This is our go to Chinese restaurant. Very fresh vegetables and excellent gravies. I like the won ton soup with all the goodies (shrimp, chicken and bbq pork). We drive down from Eureka.

Usually pretty good, I would advise against the kung pal chicken though as it’s 90% zucchini and rice with a few pieces of chicken and some bland sauce, other dishes are good though
I ate here as part of a large group and enjoyed the food. The staff was helpful and courteous albeit busy. We ordered a variety of dishes to enjoy and share family-style. The Imperial Chicken seems to have been the favorite among the group. Other dishes were yummy too, but portions were smaller.

So I have carryout dine in and doordash today. The price is great for the lunch specials liked the chow menein and springroll. Soup good too, my entree was good but not what I ordered , actually have no clue what I goot some shrimp in a brown sauce with mushrooms, very mild but tasty. I did order shrimp in lobster sauce though so kinda bummed. My boyfriends mongolian beef was delicious. Next time going in better service that way.

We eat here regularly. They seem to have issues with consistency. We oder the same dish and it comes different ways. This time the soup was a different base and was no where near what we had the last time. This time the mushrooms were raw as well as the carrots were hard. Last time there were no carrots. Service is always great.
The Kung Pow Chicken was OK, not the tiniest but hot, despite there being peppers in it. The posted hours are incorrect. Dining room closes at 9pm, takeout at 9:15.
My first time here today. I got 2 specials ofc the board. Pork dumplings and half rack of Chinese ribs. I went in looking for Dim sum. The Chinese ribs were pretty good, bit not dim sum style. The pork dumplings we awful. I left those behind, they were so bad. Wait staff was slow... kinda Meh. Nothing to write home about.
On Google Maps it says it's a buffet but on Sunday there was no buffet only the foods that were on the menu that you had to ask the waitress for. Very good service, food comes quickly, we ate wonton soup it was delicious, but we took two other dishes that needed more seasoning to give the food a taste, the price is reasonable, interesting to go and see it to evaluate with your experience.

The food was well made, but the service was disrespectful. We had an Asian server SLAM! our glass cups on our table. Very rude eye contact and demeanor. She proceeded to be extremely nice to the older couple behind us, which made her rudeness even worse. The prices online do not match the restaurant, which is fine, it’s still a good deal. However, we’ll be getting take out next time because the regular Caucasian younger girl was actually very nice to us. Bad service = no tip! We would have tipped well if you guys wouldn’t be so mean to us.

I feel like there has to have been a change in ownership or chef or both. I used to drive here for the authentic and fresh Chinese food. This was not the experience we had. The servers were so kind but the food tasted off, not fresh and just lost all authentic flavor. I actually felt a bit queasy after. So sad that it changed so much.
Ordered Sweet and Sour pork, it was tasteless meat. Wife ordered lemon chicken, about the same. White rice was either dry or just old. Meat kinda tasted old. Never coming back to this place.
I have tried over and over to like this place. Eaten here at least 5 times since moving to Fortuna. The Chinese Chicken Salad is the only thing I’ve had that I’ve liked. This food is not fresh. The chicken dishes have a weird chemical smell and taste, the beef dishes are chewy, the chow mein and fried rice are bland. Also the parking lot constantly smells like a sewer coming from their building. They survive because it’s the only game in town. Such a bummer. Fortuna needs great Chinese food!
My family and I had your food last night and we were all very disappointed in the food. The chicken had extremely hard to chew pieces, the food in general was pretty tasteless, the Rick was undercooked and crunchy. We won’t be back for a very long time if ever.
Dry chow mein, hard chewy chicken in the sweet and sour chicken, rice burnt. Been giving it a try now and then, steadily declining quality, I'm done

Pretty much only option in town for Chinese food. Chicken is always dry and never juicy. How many times was this food reheated? To-go service is good, but haven’t had a plate there ever that we were like “wow that was really good”. Been going there for years but try to space it out every few months, we end up throwing most of it out. Prices are steep. Been to tons of really good and bad Chinese food places out of the area, this place sucks, but we still support them for being local i guess. Wish the food was more fresh, always has that overcooked chicken smell…Nasty
The food here is impressively bad. What should be crispy is sogy. What should pop with flavor is utterly without. I've had the food here on 3 occasions and each time was a new low. Not all dishes make you wonder if it was made yesterday, but the ones that don't are edible at best. Nice staff Good service Food that make you wonder if god has trule forsaken us.
Greasy food with very little flavor or seasoning at all. I was very disappointed with everything we ordered, the meat was poor quality and rubbery, the sauces were totally bland. The veggies weren't bad, but definitely still lacking in flavor . I don't think we'll be eating here again, I was very surprised at all the amazing reviews, apparently no one in Humboldt County has taste buds ..?
Imi recently had the displeasure of visiting this place for the first time as a new resident. I only ordered chicken fried rice and it was dry, no flavor, it actually tasted old. The chicken tasted like it was rotten. I went immediately back and asked for a refund of $8.50. Before I finished my sentence the lady who runs the front register and the server told me no. We do not refund we will remake. I didn't like it to begin with because it was the worse version of chicken rice I ever ate. They argued back and forth saying they cannot and will call the police! They called owner of the restaraunt and had her on speaker, she said "why is this happening everyday"? Do not refund. In 5 minutes Fortuna P.D. was there to ask me what I would like. I said just my $8.50. They explained that this establishment does NOT have to refund anything and to take the loss. I asked then remake something else. They refused service and I was asked to leave. I have only suspicion that this business is poor quality, uses days old food and will never treat customers fairly. They called the police. I mean doesn't the police have important things to do. Why would they go to that extreme? I will continue to report this business to the CA health inspectors, BBB, and the Chamber of Commerce of Fortuna. This is very poor business practice and unacceptable. Do not spend your money on what you would expect to be quality food and get inedible return.
Don’t go 20 minutes before the lunch specials end or the big girl waitress will make you wait 15 minutes to tell you they won’t serve lunch specials because it’s to close to 3. She came out of the back with rice on her chin. What a disgusting establishment
Ordered $140 worth of food for take out for the family only to get home and some items are missing, the food is below par, chicken is to tough to poke with a fork. This unfortunately has been the way my last few experiences have gone and yet they make you pay a 10% fee for orders over $100?
Ouch. I hate giving bad reviews, and I love Chinese food. Unfortunately, Hunan Village made me the worst food I've ever received from a restaurant. The black pepper chicken I received via takeout was cooked into hard balls. There was no sauce at all in the container since it had all been cooked off. It was dry, stringy, and basically inedlible. If I'd received it in person, I would have sent it back, and I've only done that one time in my 45 years. I would never have served that to a guest, let alone a client. Unfortunately, as I was visiting, it was also my first (and definitely last) meal there, so it's my only experience. The frustrating part is that I'm the guy always fighting for us to eat Chinese. My friends and family never want to get it because "it is inconsistent and sometimes really gross." This night, I had begged my wife to get Chinese food because I had such a craving, and I not only got the worst food, but I won't be able to persuade her to get Chinese food again for long time. I really needed you guys to come through! Both for my cravings and for my ability to eat Chinese food for the forseeable future. You biffed it about as bad as anybody could though.
Was turned away at 10 after 8 and told “I know we’re supposed to be open till 9:30, but we’re not very busy so we’re closing, sorry” Poor service, if you ask me. If you have business hours you should be open when you say you will be.
Kept going back to this place for the last few months, really wanting to like it. The owners are very nice and I've kept giving them the benefit of the doubt. But, Today is my last time spending money on bad service and inconsistent menu. Our waiter never checked on us (not even once!) after getting our food, we sat with empty water glasses. Owner stated he was busy with to go orders, so he lost a bigger tip I guess thanks to the owner?? I had to walk around the restaurant to find help. Every time I order a dish from here it tastes different. Soup consistently tastes different, whether it's hot and sour or their wonton soup. Chicken with sizzling rice was good one time, different recipe today! A waitress, who ended her shift while we were there, rudely disagreed with us on something we stated. I may try again in the far future and change my review, but for now I'm saving my money!
I ordered the lemon chicken. What I got was a container of dried up chicken with cherries and something green hanging onto the inside of the food container. Lemon sauce on the side. Completely unappetizing looking. 15 bucks for this less than jail food??!!! Not again. Update...just took my first bite of spring roll. Absolutely disgusting. When the previous owner had it, this was the best. Now? The worst.
I'm honestly disgusted I ordered takeout and found a huge spider cooked into my chow main I immediately called and they were so rude and told me to come in with all the food. I come in the next morning and the owner was immediately rude she said that we're not allowed to come back and accused me of calling the health department on her when i didnt. she said she never gives refunds and is giving us so much attitude. She said she would only give us a refund for the chowmain after I threw a fit. And I said no we didn't eat anything because we don't trust there's not bug in all of it. So finally she gave us half the money back and told us were not welcome back and never to come there again. Not that we ever would but the amount of attitude and disrespect she gave me is disgusting let alone the unsanitary place that they're cooking your food in. Never go there guy this is disgusting they need to be shut down.
Found chicken bones in the chow mein. Noodles were nearly flavorless.

We have truly enjoyed the food of Hunan Village for years, until today. I do not like leaving negative reviews but I hope Hunan’s will remedy the situation so we can remain loyal customers. Tonight, Feb. 3, 2026 we spent about $70 for our take out and we got our favorite dishes. I usually enjoy the Chinese chicken salad among other dishes and nothing was like the usual food. The dressing was all off and did not taste good on the salad …. Well sadly none of the dishes tasted very good. We also noticed the Chinese hot mustard (that we love) was very watered down and tasted “off”. Maybe you have a new Chef, but I hope changes are made soon. We love your restaurant and hope this is just temporary. Your service has always been great and we don’t want to lose you. Very sincerely, T. Green and B. Hagopian
Tried the chow mein and it had zero flavor. Fried rice wasn’t any better. This is the kind of food that makes you wonder if anyone in the kitchen actually tasted it. Bay Area Chinese food is galaxies ahead of this. Fortuna, you deserve way better. Chin’s is the only spot in Humboldt that I tried so far that didn’t make me want to spit out my meal.
Horrible food. Hairs, overcooked won ton, blah vegetable fried rice, orange chicken must have been cooked in used 15-30 motor oil with a little sugar and a rotten orange peel. Cashier was less than concerned and since I had ordered through a door dash link from their website (picked up, delivered and attempted to be eaten by myself and three others) they would not refund one penny even though I returned 90% of the food. SAD. Not the Hunan's I was used to in the past. Randy Davis.
This was absolutely a terrible dining experience. We waited over an hour for our food. We then had to flag down a waitress to get our bill because of how long it took for anyone to check back in with our table. The food was below average and the chicken was tasteless. The green beans and pot stickers were ok. The bbq pork chow mein and pork fried rice had very little flavor. Overall this was one of the worst experiences eating out that I have ever had. Me and my family sat there for 2 hours and spent about 150$ for extremly slow service and terrible food.
