Let me just say this: Backwoods BBQ knows exactly what they’re doing. Like… soul-healing, finger-licking, don’t-talk-to-me-I’m-eating kind of BBQ. The brisket? Tender. Juicy. Basically melts like butter if butter had a smoky, peppery crust. The ribs? Fall-off-the-bone legends. And the corn? Look, I don’t know what magic they sprinkled on it, but I’d drive back just for that golden, buttery goodness. Legit A-MAIZE-ING. 🌽✨ Service? Friendly doesn’t even cover it — everyone there treats you like you’ve been coming for years. It's that small-town “you’re family now” vibe that makes the food taste even better. Seriously, everything was on point. No weak spots. No complaints. No crumbs left on the plate. If you're rolling through Fredericksburg and skip Backwoods BBQ, you're doing Texas wrong.

Truly delicious! We had the brisket, beef ribs, pork ribs, and jalapeno sausage. Everything was wonderful, the jalapeno sausage is a showstopper. The place is very large, and the service was quick. We got ours to go.

I got the 3 meat combo, Brisket, Ribs and Sausage. Marble Slice Brisket is just Excellent. Tender, juicy and perfect flavor. Pork Ribs dry rub fall of the Bone excellent Ribs. Jalapeño Sausage cooked and served to perfection. Delicious Sides, I got Mac and cheese with green beans. They also serve Tri tip, chicken, turkey and other sausages. Best BBQ in Fredericksburg Tx. Big dining area and very fast service for Togo orders. Price for 3 meat combo plate is not overpriced, under $20

Deep in the heart of Central Texas, where offset smokers and post oak reign, Blackwood's BBQ stands out with its unique style rooted in West Texas BBQ traditions. Using mostly mesquite wood, Michael Zavala cooks his meats over direct heat. Michael starts his day at 2 a.m., filling up his massive firebox with mesquite wood and burning it down to hot coals. He then takes heaping scoops of flaming hot coals and spreads them under the cooking grates. This method of cooking is not low and slow; it's hotter and faster, but this doesn't diminish the flavor and tenderness of the meats. The mesquite wood also provides a unique earthy and sweet flavor not found in post oak. Their Chicken Fried steaks and thier mesquite grilled steaks are equally amazing. I had the privilege to eat here multiple times and it's constantly amazing each time.

My experience eating here was wonderful. Food was just absolutely incredible, the brisket was super tender and juicy, the mac & cheese was 💣 and the potato salad was nice too! I highly recommend this BBQ place and the prices were reasonable. I will eat here again! 😋

Delicious BBQ and good variety of side dishes. It’s off the beaten path where the locals go to eat which is what I look for. Friendly service and good food. We had their pork ribs which were good. Large restaurant which is good if you want to meet with a large group. Give them a try.

I will be dreaming about this food until I can get back to Texas again. My daughter and I did not know what good brisket was until we ate here!!! The food… all the food was good but that brisket OMG the best we have ever had! We both ordered the three meat platter I had ribs, sausage and brisket ….. my daughter did the same except she had chicken sausage. We also had sides of coleslaw, potato salad, Mac and cheese and the complimentary beans. My daughter also ordered a slice of chocolate pie that was topped with a heaping helping of meringue. Every last bite was wonderful. We went around dinner time and the place was packed not really any seating, so plan on that and they had sold out of few items the beef tips and loaded potato. Next time we will go earlier (we are already planning our next trip from Virginia). I cannot recommend this place enough if you are in the area or even near this area GO you will not be disappointed.

Ribs,sausage, potatoes, corn, pinto beans and green beans were delicious. Brisket was a little tough but had a good flavor. Great atmosphere and very friendly customer service.

It’s not bad. Great atmosphere but it feels like the meat and sauce lacks flavor. I didn’t think it was bad but it just seems a little bland by typical Texas BBQ. It was a great atmosphere and the staff was terrific! They also offer free beans with your order.

Had the pork ribs, slaw and corn, and the brisket burger with fries. The slaw/corn/fries were great but the ribs were barely warm, while the burger was very hot but both meats had a lot of grease.

The place I really wanted to try closed early so this was my next choice. I had the 3 meat plate, moist brisket, sausage, and ribs, potato salad and cream corn. They cut me the back end of the slab of ribs so they were kinda tough, I didn't finish them. The brisket was good and so was the sausage. They didn't offer a 2 meat plate that offers chicken because as they said, they serve you a half chicken. We ordered the chicken which was tasty. It was ok, until the next one. My search continues.

Was looking forward to a nice dinner with my wife and friends here on Friday night 9/26/2025 and arrived at 7 pm. They close at 8 and we were aware of that. The main doors appeared locked however a group sitting outside enjoying the night said the side doors are open. That said we went in those doors and appeared to have upset the counter people working the food line. At the time we were several people away from ordering the person carving meat said only the fatty brisket and chicken is available. Ok no biggie. Then we ordered and only chicken available. I’ll have to say the chicken was excellent. And the meat carver was friendly. Come on management. This was supposed to be a fun Friday night for us. The live singer was also voiceably upset he didn’t get better tips for playing. I’m a Texan through and through but this wasn’t Texan. No friendly atmosphere or hospitality. We won’t be back to try again.

Meat tasted like it was just kept warm for days. No smoke ring or bark on the brisket and it shredded when cut and had a slight gamey taste. Ribs and sausage weren’t much better. $32/pound for brisket is a fair price if it’s edible, this wasn’t, it was a soggy mess. Sides were decent but I didn’t pay $65.00 for lunch to eat just sides.

Ordered brisket plate. Brisket was the only thing they had left at 6:30. A full third of my brisket serving was fat. I don’t mean meat marbled with fat. I mean pure untrimmed fat off the brisket point. Large globs of pure white fat. Unbelievable they would serve that.
