Chai Shai is a cozy cafe known for its diverse chai options and Indian snacks. Many customers praise the masala chai, samosas, and sandwiches. Some find the chai too sweet or the food quality inconsistent, especially the Raj Kachori.

Tip: If you don't prefer sweet chai, specify when ordering, as some options come pre-sweetened. The sandwiches and bun maska chai are good choices.

Stumbled upon this place when we were in town visiting family for Thanksgiving and OH MY GAWDDDD — so cute, so friendly, so DELICIOUS. I’d only ever had the classic masala chai (which I love) and then we got the Jaggery Chai and a Kashmiri (pink!!) Chai and they were both SO TASTY. The place was full, people playing games and hanging out. Cant Wait to come back next time we’re visiting!
My boyfriend and I came here after shopping in the hub and it was pretty cool! We got a chai flight where you can pick four flavors and the staff were really helpful with recommendations! All our drinks were good! We especially liked the pink chai drink and the zafrani chai. Also had good seating
Amazing hangout place with lovely Desi decor inside and outside. The staff is very welcoming and the menu options are great. We tried Indori Poha, Daal Kachori, Pyaaz Kachori, Bombay Veggie Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Veggie Cheese Chilli Toast Sandwich, Ban Maska, Masala Chai, Kadak Irani Chai, Zafrani Chai & Special Pink Chai Everything was amazing and highly recommended. I am looking forward to visit more and try other options. 💯 Recommended!
Sunil is very welcoming, sincere smile, attentive and courteous. He was amiable with all my questions about the menu. I tried the lemongrass chai today: it was delicious! Will definitely return with my mom, amazing decoration, there’s plenty of parking as well, clean peaceful atmosphere.
We had a pleasant experience 2 times in a row food and customer service 10 out of 10 So we were visiting from houston tx and looking some chai shop and found this glad we didn’t miss it Please please have their orange juice with salt and ilaychi tea
Delicious food and drinks. Nice ambiance and good hang out place with games and toys for kids. Kashmiri chai and Desi cold coffee are good
Good place to chill with a cup of tea. You can meet friends and spend time chit-chattting. They have the usual Indian street food and different chai selection. Good location too as it is in the hub and you can at other places too.
Really enjoyed the Chai Flight where we tried different chais, my favorite was the Rose Chai. Also had samosas as a light snack, super flavorful and had the perfect crispy crunch. 10/10 would come again.
Loved their ginger and masala chai! Highly recommend the chai flight as well along with the sandwiches and chaat.
Very good Masala chai. Came out fast, hot with just the right amount of sweetness and ting. Great ambiance and attentive service from the counter. Big menu with lots of food and drink options.
Chai Shai is a delightful new chai spot in Fremont Hub, offering an excellent experience for anyone craving authentic Indian chai and traditional snacks. The chai here is incredibly flavorful—whether you're in the mood for ginger chai, kadai chai, or masala chai, they have them ready to go. Other types of chai on the menu are freshly made to order, ensuring a perfect cup every time. The snack selection is a treat as well, with classics like samosas, kachodis, pohas, and Maggi to complement your drink. I also spotted Sabudana Khichdi on the menu, which I’m definitely trying next time! The ambiance is perfect for a casual hangout, making it a great spot for friends to meet up and enjoy some lively "gup shup." Plus, they offer a great variety of board games, which adds to the fun. The service was prompt and friendly, making the overall experience even more enjoyable. Overall, I’ll definitely be back soon! It's a wonderful spot for both chai lovers and snack enthusiasts. Highly recommend it!
Excellent Kashmiri chai, amazing chaat and club sandwich. Service is excellent and people are very friendly.
Chai Shai is a great spot for a quick stop, especially if you're a chai lover! It’s a cozy little café with a nice ambiance, making it a pleasant place to relax. Personally, I enjoyed it more than Chai wala. We visited on a weekday evening, and it wasn’t too crowded, which made the experience even better. We ordered Chai, Bun Maska, and Samosa, and everything tasted great. The chai was flavorful, the bun maska was perfectly buttery, and the samosa had a good taste. My only small feedback is that the samosa could be slightly bigger. Overall, a lovely place for a chai break, and I’d definitely visit again when I get the chance! #ChaiLovers #ChaiShai#QuickStop #TeaTime

Loved the Pasta n Chai at Chaishai! 🍝☕ The pasta was flavorful with a nice desi twist, and the chai was rich, aromatic, and comforting. Cozy ambience and friendly staff make it a great place to relax. Definitely coming back!

The chai here was one of the best I have had in the bay. We don't take sugar in our chai, so we ordered the masala chai. All other chai options came with sugar already added. We ordered pyaz pakora as an accompaniment and it was light, crunchy and delicious. If you are craving pakoras in this rainy season, this is the place to go!! The ambience is nice and cute. They have a collection of board games like Catan, Jenga etc. along with books and blocks for kids to keep busy while you enjoy your chai. We would definitely visit again.
The mumbai sandwich was really good and the chai was decent as well. Pani Puri nope, the Pani was too bad, dahi Puri okay okay. The chutneys aren't that great for the chaat, i think they excel in sandwiches, bum maska and tea. There are games available, we played uno but the cards were pretty worn out.
Great Daal kachori and bun maska chai. Some old menu photos online have onion kachori and we went in hoping to have that. The menu is very small for anything more than light snacks. But good taste
Today I finally made up my mind to try this place. Since it’s too hot I went inside to have their Chocolate milk. It was really good, for the price $3 excluding taxes and the quantity. It’s good, I liked it. I even saw they don’t accept cash. They actually have a wide variety of food here for breakfast (like samosa, kachori & pohas) and for snacking like chaat, Maggie and Pakoras. Almost made me remember India, how back there you can get all this. Unlike ready-to-make frozen chaats. Regarding customer service, I think they can do a lot with this since unlike other restaurants in Fremont they are more about “Chai spot” snacks and breakfast. Even when I went there I was inquisitive to know more about their drinks and things they offer, but I didn’t get the vibe so should definitely work on that since they curated such a beautiful cafe like place. They have an indoor sitting area mainly if you’re there around afternoons. And for evenings specially during fall and early December I think since they have music there also it’ll be ideal to sit outdoor. Regarding prices, since I haven’t tasted anything I can’t comment on it since the taste is directly proportional to the price but I think you should give this a try also their prices are reasonable, give it a try. Honestly, I have expectations from this place. They can do a lot better, they just have to engage with customers and work on customer service since they put in so much into creating this place. Also, it’s in the heart of Fremont hub, they can bring out so much from this. Offer to your customers what’s best you serve, I found that missing when I was so willing. Also, they are closed on mondays. And they offer catering options for private parties & corporate events.
I was here on two occasions, one for my birthday my friends took me here and second for an open mic event. It's a Starbucks concept where you order at the kiosk and then wait for them to call you with the order being ready. You can take a seat if you're planning to sit and eat there. It's a self-service concept and you are served in use and throw containers and cups. I wished it was different but I guess less work and less resources to clean the dishes. They have a variety of chai and you can get confused if you don't read and understand the details in each one. I have tried their ginger tea (it's very sweet so you need to tell them), Zafrani chai liked it, Desi kahwa felt good and Kashmiri pink chai shai special which I enjoyed, but again it depends on your taste as what you prefer. I remember my friend asking for cold coffee which initially they said they don't have and friends said let's go somewhere else and the lady came and said actually we are making it so that was kinda surprising. We ordered a buttery samosa sandwich - this was different and kinda enjoyed but make sure you don't keep it too long or else it will become soggy, kanda poha ( which was more of a Rajasthani style), samosa chaat was delicious, and sev puri dahi puri tasted good too the only complaint was that it's filled with yogurt and the puri starts breaking and get soggy due to yogurt filled in. The interiors are good with some special corners with a sofa and some high chairs, and they do have outside seating as well. It's a small place but can get really busy at night when people just walk in to try their chai and bites. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You can feel the vibe that they are still new and working out to be better at everything that they have to offer. I will recommend this for sure as in Fremont this is a cool place to go if you're catching up with your friends or family.
11/25/24 Monday interior looks good but little over crowded specially tables n chairs not enough space to move around. We ordered tandoori paneer vegetable sandwich, daal kachori chaat, butter samosa sandwich, samosa chaat, kashmiri pink chai. Food taste good but felt dry hope they will add butter on sandwiches both sides serve with chutney & add chole into chaat. Chai taste very good. Also put doormat floor can be slippery specifically when it's raining.

Food is good. We got kesar chai, dum chai, ginger chai, paneer tandoori sandwich and Bombay grilled sandwich. This totaled nearly 50 bucks for us. The food and the chai were good but this didn’t fill our bellies. However I don’t think we will return to this place as it is way too expensive for the food and the taste. It’s nothing special imo but you wouldn’t hate the food if you eat it. If it was less expensive I’d recommend to try it out. The atmosphere is nice inside. They have games (connect 4, Jenga, catan, settlers) as well to hangout and play with your friends or family.
After seeing a instagram review of this place I went to see a nice chai shop with board games. The food is ok chai not so much. I decided to give it a try again. Same experience.
Is there it was very silent it was just I can listen to the song and people was not coming at their it was not looking like a restaurant it was not amazing the food I really do not like it and I do not like the days it was very victory that's it I think that the owner of the show need to see come come and see the food quality at least
I walked into Chai Shai tempted by the board outside advertising their gorgeous Raj Kachodi. Unfortunately, it was neither gorgeous nor tasty. It was overly sweet and definitely not worth the price. What sounded inviting turned out to be quite disappointing but I liked the plaza
Chai Flight (3/5): cups are extremely small; it's hard to tell from the pic but they are about an inch tall. Malai Bun (3/5) Nicely decorated inside and storefront with some basic games to play.
Wide variety of tea options. Nice seating area with visual elements. Efficient staff. Very average Kadak chai. Too sweet to be strong. Desi Kahwa is good.
I ordered Rajkachori here, it was not authentic. They added a kachori inside Rajkachori lol. The poha was also average.

For a place which has the name chai in it, it had one of the most disappointing masala chai I’ve ever had. The chai in basic restaurants are more flavorful than what’s offered it. As for the masala Maggie may be it’s just me, but I for one did not expect masala Maggie to be just the original Maggie masala and no signature/speciality of the restaurant. Even for the “original” Maggie masala it’s overcooked and under seasoned. The ambiance is good but its tables are not clean and the place is pretty disorganized.
Everything is fine here from food to hangout spot except the young girl staff that they newly hired. She has no sense of talking to elder. My mom asked for sugar free chai and she send her back blaming- you should inform before placing order. I mean seriously? When did tea and coffee start coming with sugar? There was other guy who agree to change the order. Please train the girl before the reputation of the shop fall out. I am a regular customer here and want to hangout here more often.
When you hear the place with Chai in its name, you expect their Chai to be at least better than the most Chais you must have tried. Ohh what disappointment!! Definitely one of the worst Chais we have ever had. I had Ginger and my friend had Lemongrass and we both could see how horrible the Chais were on each other's faces as soon as we took the first sip. Why oh why? We also had a Bombay Sandwich and Corn Chili Cheese one. Sandwiches were okay and that's why I gave 2 stars. The place looks okay. Maybe because it's a self-service place, the tables weren't very clean.
Really disappointed ☹️ ordered two sandwiches 🥪 two masala tea , grilled sandwiches are not even stuffed and grilled properly , taste like. Nothing, served cold Chai was ok , big request to owner if you make this beautiful setup , good looking spot , please give your attention to food quality and taste and service . This is a beautiful place will definitely come back (atleast once ) if see difference will keep coming for sure , But honestly grilled sandwiches could be way more better, its not even a big task .

We tried Tandoori paneer sandwich and masala chai. Sandwich was pretty basic and not at all worth 14$. Not much flavors. Masala Tea was too sweet. I would expect places to at least inform the customer if the tea already contains more than usual amount of sweet if they can't provide a non-sweetened option on which we could have added sugar on top. Seating was sub-standard, and tables were not clean. When we asked the person taking the order to cleanup, hr only cleaned half the table, and not both, where we were sort of thinking to put the games. Pretty bad experience overall. Won't recommend.

Ordered multiple food items (Very Disappointed with food quality) Ambience and interior is good .. Masala chai - 1/5. (Too much water in chai) Masala Maggie - 0/5 (No taste very worst quality it’s better to eat at home) Spring Roll - 1/5( looks like frozen ready made serve) Maska Bun - 1/5 (Never saw maska bun with tooti footi pav and there is no maska in maska bun) Pyaj Kachori - 5/5 (Really this is the only 1 good item I liked it ) Kandhe poha- 2.5/5 (No onions in kandhe poha not sure then why they called kandhe poha and peanuts inside poha are totally burnt) Food quality very worst. Won’t recommend to anyone
Horrible !!!!! the worst Grilled paneer sandwich I ever had even someone who doesn’t know cooking could do a better job, the samosa’s are so distasteful even $1 samosa at cash & carry or even a frozen samosa tastes better than this…. A very average tea…. Never gonna go to this place ever again! Don’t waste your money at all 😕😕
We ordered Kachori and Cold Coffee, but the service was extremely slow and lacked attentiveness. The primary issue, however, was the food quality: the Kachoris were excessively oily—literally drenched—making them inedible. When this was brought to the attention of the staff member at the counter, they offered a brief apology but made no attempt to replace the item or resolve the issue. We left feeling dissatisfied with both the slow service and the poor quality control.
Elaichi chai was good flavor but totally “pheeki”. I doubt if this is made out of instant mix packets. French fries were good but quantity for the price is very very less.
Their Chai is very poor. I felt like drinking diluted milk with loads of sugar. The foods are also very ordinary and hard to trace any charm of Indian fastfood. Sorry to say, 'I am never going back'.
Had masala chai, was expecting freshly made chai, but turns out it came out from a chai machine. Don't recommend this place if you are looking for a good chai. Several other good options in Fremont. Sandwiches were meh..
Not worth the money ! We ordered kanda Poha and it was very dry. I couldn’t see any traces of onion in there and no taste. Felt like the tea was machine made
Terrible service. The tea was way too sweet, and when I told the guy, he just said, “that’s how it is,” without even caring to fix the issue. The guy working at the front has no idea how to interact with customers when there is an issue, The food wasn’t good either. On top of that, they charge $7 for tea that other places sell for $3.50 and it actually tastes better. If they had shown some concern, I wouldn’t have left one star, but both the food and service were really disappointing.
I was shocked and aghast at the way this employer/owner lady talked to the staff. It felt like I was witnessing some scripted show. She called out some employees as lazy and tardy. Scolded one of them about taking a long time to prepare a dish. I don’t recommend this place to anyone.
NOT RECOMMENDED!!! We ordered 2 12oz chais, pani puri, and Bombay veggie sandwich. We were going to share the chais with our kids who don't drink too much so we ordered 2 12oz sizes. As I was ordering, I saw the Khulad (clay cups) on the counter and asked if they can serve it in that. The assistant said yes they can, but she did not tell us it's $2 extra per cup. When we saw the bill and asked her to switch it to regular cups, she said that it's too late to take it off now. We hadn't gotten our chais yet, so she could have easily refunded us and given us the regular cups. Also when we were drinking the chai, it seemed like there wasn't enough. I found out later when I went home that the large Khulad only holds 8oz even though they sell it as a 12oz size. I measured it at home. I even called them the next day to confirm, and the lady on the phone said that's how they come, but she will bring it up to management. Not only did we pay extra, but we got fooled into thinking we are getting the same quantity. The pani puri came with only one tablespoon of filling. We had to request for more filling. Also, two of the pani puris were very small in size. They could have easily replaced those, since pani puris are dirt cheap, but they didn't care. They were probably trying to use them up. They would rather ruin the customer experience over something so inexpensive. I don't like businesses that try to fool their customers and only care about maximizing their bottom line. In the replies the owner repeatedly mentions something like "did you bring it up to the assistant...we would have addressed it...." Well, the customer should not have to request quality food and service after it has already been served. That should be a given. You should not mislead customers and expect them to bring it up to the staff for being caught. There are other chai shops in Fremont, go there. Don't come here.
Food was not tasty & expensive for what it was. Never thought a simple poha could be messed up, no salt/tadks, barely any onions and just yellow steamed poha with some peanuts in it. I could make a much better poha in 10 minutes at home. Lemongrass tea probably used some powder, was like hot water and no hint of lemongrass. Requested some hot water for my sore throat. but they refused because "kitchen was busy" 🙄 and only one table of diners there at the time. Anyways, tea was like hot water so I was ok. Tables not clean. Not going there again.
I was expecting a freshly made tea, they gave stale tea. I asked them if they mad fresh on demad, they said YES, but as a chai connoisseur, I knew it was a stale chai. If I have to pay premium, they should serve freshly made as marketed.. The Samosa was dipped in oil and was horrible. The quality was worse than grocery store chai and samosa was not even close to quality of grocery store.. I would not recommend them..
