This place is phenomenal. The food was seasoned great and plated good. The greens and cabbage mix reminded me of back down south, they were so good I had to go back in and get more. I’m from Texas and they have good soul food places but this one right here took the cake. I hope to be able to come back to Cali and come back here. This place here is a 10 all the way

I had the meatloaf, mashed potatoes, greens, and macaroni and cheese. Definitely the best meal I've had in a long time! Very much a neighborhood joint, family friendly, and down to earth. Don't expect cloth napkins and the Good China. But show up with an appetite, the portions are very generous.

Doll's Kitchen saved the day by making a custom cake for a birthday celebration. We also ordered meals for the family. Everything was packaged and ready at our arranged pickup time. The owner was friendly and very knowledgeable about cakes. The fish we ordered was crispy and golden brown. She even accommodated our no spicy seasoning request. I highly recommend this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.

Loved the food! Would definitely recommend it! If you're looking for some true soul food! We tried chicken, which was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside yams, greens were great. Fried fish was my favorite! Rice gravy were good, the meat on the ribs fell right off the bone. The spaghetti had too much pepper for my taste. I'm definitely going back to try some other items on the menu!

Doll’s Kitchen is hands down the best spot in Fresno. The fried chicken? Fire. The fried fish? Even better. Mac n cheese? Comfort food perfection. Honestly, everything I’ve tried has been on point. Only thing the Kool-Aid’s a little too sweet for me, but hey, that’s how you know it’s made with love. Do yourself a favor and try this place. Real home-cooked soul food done right.

Came to Doll's Kitchen with my brother. I've been looking for a good spot for SOUL FOOD here in Fresno for quite a while. I had the Fish and Chicken combo with Greens and Mac n cheese. Everything was delicious. The greens were so good I was smiling as I ate them. Her Peach Cobbler Cake was phenomenal. Thank you Doll. I'm definitely coming back.

Wow where should I start at, I went to this restaurant with pretty high hopes for some good soul food which is kind of rare in California. I like to say that paid for everything and honestly found Dolls Kitchen thanks to Google's "food near me search". Let me tell you Dolls did not disappoint, I arrived close to closing and they were out of fish but that didn't bother me (I love places that sell out) because it makes you order something new and that was their three piece chicken and shrimp platte. The shrimp were big and fried correctly, by fried correctly I mean just a little bit of breading and season two perfection. This is not your average run of the mill shrimp that is fried until it is almost a rubber shrimp disc. When I say good we tried the shrimp in our car and I had to go back in to order more. Side items Collard greens, Mac and cheese, potato salad and their delicious cornbread (more of that later) When it comes to mac and cheese I am one that's fairly picky because to not pat myself on the back I make some really good homemade mac and cheese. I was a little reluctant to order some because I have been disappointed many times by restaurants claiming they have home style mac and cheese, WELL hot damn their Mac and cheese is great with a good cheese blend and that tasty toasted crust we all love, it's like everyone gets a corner piece. The collard greens were cut a nice size showing they didn't cut corners and really prepped their greens, they had a great flavor and worth the try. Now the potato salad No need to fear because there are no raisins in the potato salad (thank God) it's also isn't huge chunks of par boiled potatoes, what is it you ask? Smooth, tasty, not over saused potatoe salad, this is bring to the picnic certified. Cornbread!!!!! Just what I have been missing, soft, flavorful and not too dense square of delish and tasty, this cornbread has a little sweet but not a dessert, you will wish you got a second piece. Overall for a place that hasn't been open for more than five months they have the right formula from the start and only can get better. The next plans are to try the fish and BBQ because the sample of sauce I tried was fantastic. So if you are on the fence please give Dolls a try and you won't be disappointed.

This place is lit. 1st eating this fried chicken and fish. BBQ bake beans, Mac and cheese, Its very yummy. Mac and cheese is out of this world. Good portion size, a combo can feed a couple. Definitely when in Fresno again, would like to come back.

The best decision you can make for lunch or dinner! I go here all the time because the food is so good! I either get the fish plate or fish and chicken plate. The fish come spicy so let them know if you do not want it spicy. The fish comes out super hot and fresh perfectly crispy and seasoned to perfection. Just tried Doll's for the first time and it was amazing! Highly recommend if you are looking for traditional soul food. Here's what we ordered: Spicy fried chicken - There wasn't a lot of kick here, but it had a good crunchy skin. Regular Fried Chicken - Delicious and crunchy. Mac & Cheese - Creamy, Cheesy, & Bomb.com! Collard Greens - Had a slight kick and packed great flavor! BBQ Baked Beans - so, so, so much flavor, slightly sweet! Included ground beef like it is traditionally made. Corn Bread - soft & sweet. Just melted in your mouth! 10/10 highly recommend. I can't wait to come back & try the BBQ.

Despite reviews, I wanted to try Dolls Kitchen. There aren't many soul food restaurants in Fresno and I had an itch. I arrived at Dolls Kitchen around 4-5pm and they were only serving fish; the owner made us aware of that before we ordered. We still wanted it so we ordered the fish combo, paid, then waited. We got yams as a side, but the owner told us after several minutes that they were out. No problem! That just means they had a successful day. Changed it to potato salad, got our food and ate! Their potato salad is a sweet relish potato salad (not our cup of tea). The fish was very creamy and delicious. Admittedly the best we have had and the mac 'n cheese was good! But a common theme in them was salt. Both mac and fish were extremely salty. I ate some colard greens to help with the salt. Then I was hit with sweet. I've never had sweet colard greens and its definitely a preference, but not mine. It was a miss for us, but I do not dislike this place! Just different taste buds. If you read my review on the food and proceed to go with all these in mind, you'll enjoy their food!

Stumbled on this African American owned restaurant as we were headed to the donut shop, pleasant detour. Reviewed the menu and decided on the 4pc meal to share since neither my husband nor I was too hungry. The wait was not too long, as we decided to dine in. The food was delicious and enough for both of us. I would recommend highly. The only thing that keeps me from giving 5 stars is that the staff did not seem very friendly, not that they were rude, just not friendly nor engaging. *****UPDATE-I went back to Dolls a few months later. I decided to phone in my order this time cause I did not want to wait 30min. I arrived and told the lady I had a phone order. She did not ask my name but proceeded to hand me my food. No customer service, no kind of engagement. You know I love me some donuts, so I stop into the donut shop for a quick donut. Before hitting the freeway, I thought a wing would be good to eat on as I drive. I opened my bag to grab a wing, and it was a plate full of FISH. So I took it back in and told her she gave me the wrong food. She took the bag and said oh. She looked around for my order, which was not done, so I stood there for about 40 min waiting on my food. She never once apologized, nor did she offer me anything like maybe a soda while I wait nothing. In the meantime, the lady whose food I had came in, and yes, you guessed it, she handed her the food that she handed me. 🤦🏽‍♀️ really! At this point, I should have asked for my money back. But you know, I have a choice. I'll go to Lady Gs in Chowchilla.

Customer service a Big No maybe in the beginning it was okay but they lost it and need to get it back. I won’t be back even tho I love the fish I will fry my own. Get it together yaw, we love and want to support but I’m going to need yaw to get it together before I come back I’m just not coming because we black that’s not enough. Let’s keep it professional. The rudeness is crazy especially coming from The owner. I just want yaw to do better.

TL;DR: we waited 1 hour for our food. The cashier was rude to everyone I saw him interact with while I waited for my food. Removing 2 stars for the wait and service. My true feedback is hire an operations manager to help with efficiency and keep customers updated on their order. Find a new cashier who will greet guest, upsell the menu, be helpful, and smile. I don’t live in Fresno, however, I ate Doll’s for the first time back when she was on Chestnut & Jensen. Her food is great, so I was happy to try it again many years later. Upon entering the restaurant, the cashier visibly seemed annoyed. When my best friend order her food she asked the cashier if they still had dressing, he confirmed they did. When it was my turn to order, I had asked what drinks they had, the cashier replied while pointing this and that and what’s in the refrigerator… I replied. Is this one punch? He replied yes. I ordered one then my best friend asked me to add one for her. He then asked when I wanted the drinks. I replied with my food and my BFF said she wanted her then. He said he would get it for her. We looked for a place to wait. The only options we had were two tables that weren’t bussed. As we’re waiting, other customers are ordering but now food is running out. So, all we hear when a customer is trying to order their food is, “we ain’t got that”. When he could have told them upfront what they are out of or posted a sign. At one point, a customer replied back, will what do you have? He fired back, “it’s almost 8 o’clock you should expect us to be running out of food.” Everyone’s face disagreed. There was a table of 5 who had been waiting for 1 hour and a half. I over heard them mention dessert. My best friend told me she forgot they had dessert, but the dessert’s are good. I was replied, I didn’t know she had any. It’s not on any of the menus and the cashier didn’t try to upsell it at all. I would have ordered, but I thought they would be out. About 8 people ordered after us. We had been waiting for 45 mins when my best friend’s number was called, they told her they ran out of dressing. Then, she asked for her drink to which the cashier immediately replied, she didn’t order a drink. I had to chime in to say I ordered two and one is hers, (he knew that). Then, he suddenly remembered and piped down. She received her food 5 mins later. I ordered at 7:27 PM I received my food at 8:30 PM. I was the last person to get my food.

I don't like the sugar in the greens. I won't say they aren't good because they were cooked well but sugar greens aren't for me. The mac and cheese wasn't great. The potato salad not good at all. Whenever I'm there, 70% of the time I hear them tell another patron that something is out of stock. The wait times have been 25-35 minutes average. So if I go back I'll just get fish and dessert.
