Kopan is my #1 favorite sushi joint in the US and #2 in the world- Feb 2026. Definitely go. Enjoy and relax. The music chill. The ambiance pleasant. The service attentive and the food is delicious. And oh yes, if you’re lucky, ask for Drake and tip him big because HE is what makes it one of the Best.
Kopan has always been popular in LA, and I’m so glad to find the Garden Grove location is just as amazing—maybe even better! The place has a cozy dark-wood interior and a chill vibe, perfect for date nights or small gatherings. The service was also super attentive. Here’s what we tried and loved: 1. Uni Scallop – Fresh scallop topped with uni and caviar, incredibly sweet and ocean-fresh. 2. Kara Miso Ramen – Rich, slightly spicy miso broth with tender chashu and perfectly chewy noodles. 3. Truffle Salmon Carpaccio – Thinly sliced salmon with truffle oil, aromatic and buttery without being greasy. 4. Unagi Donburi – Served hot with perfectly grilled eel and a well-balanced sweet-savory sauce. 5. Dragon Roll – Eel and avocado combo that’s flavorful and satisfying. 6. Torikawa Gyoza – Crispy chicken-skin dumplings, crunchy outside and juicy inside—so good with their dipping sauce. Everything was on point, but the Uni Scallop and Truffle Salmon Carpaccio really stood out. Definitely a spot I’d come back to for a relaxed dinner or a date night.
We visited Kopan Sushi & Ramen in Garden Grove and it truly feels like a hidden gem. The interior has a cozy Japanese vibe with unique decor, and if you sit at the sushi bar you can even watch the chefs prepare everything fresh, almost like a mini omakase. We tried the Ginza Sushi Set, which was beautifully presented with each piece having a different topping and flavor. The Tuna on Crunchy Spinach was another standout — smoky tuna paired with crispy spinach for a great balance. The oysters were very fresh with no metallic taste, complemented by a tangy sauce. We also had the Uni Bluefin Toro and the Mango Salmon Roll, both enjoyable, especially the refreshing combination of salmon and mango. The restaurant offers a nice selection of sake, with half-off refills after the first order, and there’s also a promotion on sushi rolls (buy one, get the second half off). On average, you can expect to spend about $50 per person if you include ramen or donburi, but if you mainly order sushi and sashimi like we did, it may be closer to $70. Overall, great food, fresh ingredients, and a lively late-night spot open until 11 pm on weekends.
We came here after a long day at Disneyland — three girls, starving and looking for somewhere cozy to eat and chat 🍺. We first tried to get into OC Lau, but the line was insane, so we walked next door and found this Japanese izakaya with great ratings. So glad we did! The place has a relaxed vibe, super friendly service, and a full photo menu (love that!). Every dish came out beautifully plated — and, honestly, everything tasted as good as it looked. ⸻ 🍣 Negitoro Donburi Absolutely loved this one. The rice bowl came topped with three pieces of fresh uni, paired with bluefin tuna belly and scallions. The fish and uni were sweet, rich, and super fresh, balanced by crispy seaweed. Every bite melted in my mouth — a must-try! 🐚 Uni Scallop / Uni Toro If you’re a uni lover, this is heaven. The scallop + uni combo was my personal favorite — thick, buttery scallop with the creamy sweetness of uni. One of my friends had the uni + toro version and said the fatty tuna was amazing too. 🔥 Seared Sushi Bomb A fun “five-flavor” sushi plate — salmon, tuna, snapper, halibut, and yellowtail. I love seared sushi in general, and this one was perfection. Each piece had a different sauce pairing that worked so well with the fish. 🍄 King Mushroom Steak / Sodduk (Sweet & Spicy Rice Cake Skewers) The mushroom steak was unexpectedly good — juicy, smoky, and full of umami. I’m not a big fan of rice cakes, but if you are, the sweet & spicy sausage-rice cake skewers are worth trying too. 🍋 Lemon Highball You can’t go to an izakaya and not order a drink! This Lemon Highball was one of the best I’ve had — super lemony, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. (Half a glass in and I was already turning red 😆) ⸻ The food looked exactly like the photos, which is rare these days. The three of us ended up chatting and eating for almost three hours, just enjoying the food and the vibe. Highly recommend for a girls’ night, casual date, or post-Disney dinner. Great food, good drinks, no rush — just good times 🩵
Food and vibe straight out of Osaka. Everything was fresh and the had a variety of sushi rolls ranging from fish focused rolls to saucy. My favorite was the truffle salmon carpaccio and Zen roll, but hands down, everything was delicious!
Stopped by Kopan Sushi & Ramen after visiting the Crystal Cathedral — it was so hot, I went for the Yuzu Miso Black Snapper Crudo and Japanese cold noodles, super refreshing. I always get sweet shrimp and uni sushi, and this time tried the chef’s recommendation, the Ginza sushi platter — fresh and looks great. The Unagi Donburi (eel rice bowl) was amazing too, tender eel with avocado and fish roe, really tasty. They also have a deal where the second sushi roll is half off, which is pretty awesome. The place is open late on weekends, perfect for a chill late-night bite. Definitely coming back!
I RARELY give 5 stars let alone in all 3 categories but this place absolutely deserves it... from the O Toro on the menu to the care and precision of their sushi craft... this place exceeds in all areas. The service is always far above average... everyone is happy, pleasant, and tentative. The atmosphere is almost a role play of old Kyoto. There is lots of wood, lanterns, etc. It almost feels like youre transported to Japan. The food has been among the highest quality the past 7 visits. The ramen is consistently delvious, rich broth, the chashu is top top perfectly prepared. I cannot say enough good things about this location of Kopan. Its truly above all others
Kopan Sushi is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, the vibe is welcoming and modern, with a clean, minimalist aesthetic that lets the food shine. The sushi is incredibly fresh! every bite melts in your mouth. I highly recommend their Omakase selection if you’re looking to be impressed. Service is attentive and friendly, and the chefs clearly take pride in their craft. Whether you’re a sushi connoisseur or just diving into Japanese cuisine, Kopan delivers quality and creativity with every plate. It’s easily become one of my go-to sushi spots!
I recently dined at Kopan Sushi in Garden Grove and the food and quality of fish was outstanding. My wife and I love eating sushi and we’ve been to quite a few spots in OC. This spot was definitely one of the better ones we’ve been to. You know it’s good when the sushi counter is right up front and the sushi chef greets you immediately upon entering. We had a great meal one here and would definitely come back!
We had a great lunch at Kopan in Garden Grove. The service was friendly and fast. We ordered a mix of ramen and sushi. The Tonkotsu Ramen with Chashu was rich and flavorful. Yellowtail Jalapeño had a perfect spicy kick, and the Okinawa Sashimi was super fresh. The Mango Lover Roll was a delicious surprise — sweet, creamy, and balanced. Takoyaki and Ginza Sushi were also solid.
**A Hidden Gem in Garden Grove: The All-Rounder of Japanese Cuisine** Still featuring a full illustrated menu—a lifesaver for the indecisive, so you’ll never feel lost when ordering. The traditional *izakaya*-style ambiance, warm golden lighting (perfect for photos!), and tableware like rustic pottery and lacquered bowls add a refined, ceremonial touch to every dish. **Must-Try Dishes** *Negitoro Donburi* & *Unagi Donburi*—two classic rice bowls that never disappoint. *Ginza Sushi*—a chef’s selection of 12 *omakase* sushi pieces, showcasing the freshest flavors. *Tuna on Crunchy Spinach*—thick-cut tuna atop crispy fried spinach, drizzled with a secret sauce so good you’ll want to lick the plate clean. *Uni Bluefin Toro* (from the Special Menu)—a luxurious bite of sea urchin and fatty tuna. Every dish is artfully plated, embodying that quintessential Japanese *"small yet exquisite"* philosophy.
After exhausting most of the food spots in Irvine, I recently stumbled upon this cozy little tavern in Garden Grove — and wow, it’s a game-changer. At this price point, I haven’t found another place that matches its plating or food quality. The menu is impressively diverse, the ambiance is warm and intimate, and best of all, they’re open until 11 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. For Irvine folks who constantly struggle to find decent late-night bites, this place is a blessing. Whether you’re swinging by after work for a quick, comforting bowl of curry or unagi don, meeting up with friends for some bar bites and drinks, or coming specifically to enjoy the chef’s choice sashimi — this spot has you covered. My personal favorite is the Hotate Crudo: a giant scallop as the base, topped with rich, fatty tuna belly, a perfectly balanced house-made sauce to cut through the richness, and a tiny dollop of caviar to bring out the flavors. It’s beautifully composed and seriously addictive. The Salmon Don and Unagi Don are both incredibly hearty. For dishes that are just over ten bucks, the presentation is stunning — you can really tell the chef puts heart into the plating. Since we had a group, we also ordered the Chef’s Choice Sashimi and Sushi. The portions were generous, the fish was fresh, and the chef even came over to introduce each type of fish — super friendly and passionate. I especially liked the yuzu-seasoned black sea bream, which had a great texture and citrusy balance. Don’t skip the sweet fruit sake! The pineapple and plum flavors were both refreshing and light — we’re already planning to hunt them down at the supermarket. There’s also a daily specials board by the entrance and some solid lunch deals worth checking out.
Just finished a heavy workout and came straight here without even changing. Absolutely hit the spot! The tonkotsu ramen was rich and comforting, the crispy rice with spicy tuna was super flavorful, and their hot stone beef sizzled beautifully. I brought my mom who doesn’t eat raw fish, and she loved the veggie ramen and grilled items. The vibe here is cozy and very Japanese izakaya-style. Perfect for dinner or late-night cravings. Definitely coming back!
I had a really great time today! The service was exceptional. We were served by Mia and Joanne. Mia helped us navigate their big menu, and offered lots of suggestions. She told us she just started, so we were so surprised by her GREAT service! 10/10 experience, thanks Mia and Joanne!
The think this might be the best Japanese place in OC. The picture menu is awesome and fun to study. There is so much artistry, quality and value. The staff are obedient and cute. I splurged on myself. You feel like you are in a real back alley of Tokyo —the atmosphere is authentic. I keep coming back…
I think we have finally found our favorite sushi spot (and they also serve delicious ramen). The quality of the fish is very fresh. The presentation of each plate is neat and done with great detail. The service of the staff is very attentive. Had a very lovely experience and I will definitely be returning to try more items on the menu. Enjoyed some rolls, salad, ramen & crispy rice w/spicy tuna. Loved every morsel. Clean bathrooms. Quick service. All and all, very pleased.

Don't judge the exterior facade by its appearance. 😊 I thought it was just a typical Japanese restaurant, but when we went inside, I said, "wow, this is a great and cozy place to eat." Food was great. But I must share, I still need to taste their ramen, just my mom. I ordered a bento (I don't have a picture, unfortunately). But, I loved everything. Will be going back.
I had the Tonkotsu ramen and it was absolutely delicious. The broth was creamy and flavorful, and the noodles had great texture and were cooked perfectly. We wanted a fresh sushi option instead of fried, and our server Kenny recommended the protein roll. It was a great choice, light, fresh, and really hit the spot. The ambience was nice and cozy, making the whole experience even better. Kenny was fantastic, very friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout the meal. Excellent service and great food.
After having a horrible week, came to Kopan to have ramen. Ended up getting king oyster mushrooms, shishito pepper and the best garlic green beans I ever had! Also go the pick 3 bento box. Delicious and alot! Do not come here just for a snack. Great food, big portions and an AMAZING staff! Guess I just have come back to actually get ramen lol.
Every time I come to Garden Grove, I usually end up eating Vietnamese food. But actually, the Korean and Japanese food here is also really good 👍. This time I went to the long-standing spot Kopan Ramen & Izakaya, and it was truly impressive! Their focus is ramen and izakaya dishes. And indeed, both menus turned out to be top-notch. Ramen: We ordered a very unique pork katsu ramen. The first bite of the katsu was such a pleasant surprise! Crispy, flavorful, and tender inside—I couldn’t believe this was just a ramen topping 😂. The tonkotsu ramen itself was also excellent. The noodles are thin, like Shinsengumi-style ramen, with a rich broth. If you like thin noodles with a bold, flavorful soup, you’ll definitely enjoy this. Izakaya menu: Although I don’t drink, I really love creative izakaya-style small plates. This time we tried stuffed avocado and stuffed green peppers—both were amazing! The peppers were lightly fried, giving a tempura-like crunch, with creamy cream cheese inside: crispy yet creamy. Highly recommend! We also ordered a toburi bowl for its gorgeous presentation: tuna + uni + fresh wasabi over rice. Beautiful and delicious. All rolls are buy 1 get 1 at 50% off, and the portions are huge—each one can count as a full meal. The flavor is the typical “loaded rolls” style: lots of ingredients stacked together. Pretty good, but if you don’t eat much, maybe skip this. Sashimi was just average—you can pass on it. Summary: The ramen and izakaya dishes are excellent 👍—flavorful and even surprising! Rolls and sushi are decent but nothing special; I’d recommend saving your budget for the first two categories. At lunch they also have a ramen + izakaya side dish special, and you can add a small dish (normally $11) for just $5—such a great deal!

I’m guessing the name Kopan comes from a mix of Ko (Korean) + Pan (Japanese) . Tried their $18.95 Lunch Special. Ramen itself was okay, broth was nice, but the tonkatsu was a bit tough. Surprisingly, the spicy tuna roll and Mushroom steak were the best part. Cute waitress with the sweetest voice totally made my day. Cozy vibe, but for this price, I’d rather grab ramen at Gomen in Stanton which has better flavor and only $7.99 for lunch special! 📍 Kopan Sushi & Ramen 10031 Garden Grove Blvd, Garden Grove, CA 92844
