Some of the best sushi I've had in years. Fish was very fresh. Special rolls were unique and delicious. Drinks were so good. Especially the lychee one. Miso soup was also very good. Kani salad could've been better it had too much mayo. Service was top notch and everyone was very friendly
Very small and busy restaurant. The food was wonderful and delicious. Thank you to our server who had to handle all the tables and still didn't forget any of the things we order despite not writing anything down. I didn't expect much from this place but in the end had one of the best dinner out in a very long time.
This place is wonderful. Transcendent, even. I cannot recommend it enough. The food feels light and clean yet packed with flavor and nourishment. Shoshaku is creative and traditional— the best of both worlds. My favorite restaurant in GN!
One of my favorite Japanese restaurants. Their food quality is really good. We were there several times for both lunch and dinner. I would recommend Omakase, Ikura Don, Chirashi, Sashimi, etc. They have many more menus that I would like to try. we recently ordered the set for 2 which is fabulous and delicious. The level of freshness, quality of the fish, the rice and everything is way above the expectation. I rarely give 5 stars to the restaurant but this place is a gem. You don't have to believe me but just go there and experience it yourself. As far as my experience, this place is worth every penny.
The fish are extremely fresh, and the pairing of rice and fish is very well-balanced. Especially the rice, which is soft yet chewy. We ordered a set, which had a wide variety of fish, with different types well-matched, satisfying the tastes of most people. The price is still quite reasonable. In the Great Neck area, this is truly a hidden gem of a restaurant.
This place has really good sushi and the sets are filled with mouth-watering food. The atmosphere was pretty basic and the service was great, we got the food really quickly and it will be worth the drive
Shoshaku serves up consistently good sushi. Their tempura is notably hot and flavorful, and their sashimi is always fresh. I particularly enjoyed the Out of the Box roll. The staff, including a lady with short hair and bangs, are attentive and welcoming. It's a place I would return to if I'm in the area again.
The food here is good; generally, you can't go wrong with coming to this place. My go to order is the hot mama roll - it's unique and insanely good. They can torch their sushi/fish, which depending on how much you want it torched, can affect the initial impression. If you want it torched more, just ask. The service is incredible; they are accommodating, friendly, willing to give suggestions, and add to the experience. I've brought so many of my friends here since being introduced to Shoshaku, and will continue to do so! Highly recommend!
This was my first time here. Waiters were super nice and willing to take the time to explain/help when ordering. Sushi was fresh and filling. Fish was tender and had great flavor. I hate mushrooms but the creamy udon was still delicious. Try it if you’re in the area!
Finished dinner, pleasantly surprised. The sushi rolls were fresh. The unagi and other Japanese traditional dishes were flavorful, the prices fair. The service very attentive. The restaurant clean and brightly lit. Coming back for more, and will order catering in the near future.
My wife and I visited Shoshaku for dinner and we were very satisfied with the food, service, and ambience. With my wife being pregnant, I wanted to pick something cooked for her and chose the soft shell crab roll and it was delicious. Definitely will come back if we're in the area again.
Just moved to the neighborhood. Found this gem. I’ve been craving for sushi but can’t eat raw food at this time. They have an amazing selection of cooked rolls. I ordered the soft shell roll and the rock shrimp roll. It was fully cooked and delicious. Never have I ever thought cooked rolls can be soooo good. Must order from here.
The food was incredibly fresh, and the waitstaff was very professional. The environment was clean and hygienic, and the pricing was reasonable considering the quality. It's an excellent dining experience and a place I would visit time and time again.
Stopped in while visiting the USMMA. Very clean and welcoming. Our server was amazing and had some great suggestions on food and what Sake we might enjoy. Will be back!
Perhaps it's one of the best sushi restaurants in Great Neck. Never disappointed regardless dine in or take out. Fish is always fresh, well cut, and added with chef's special ornaments. On top of these, the price is very reasonable.
I've been frequenting this sushi joint for years. Both take out and dine in. Staff is always efficient and the menu is awesome! Every category covers even the pickiest non-sushi eater but I'm here for the sushi. Just saying! Fish is always fresh, avocado ball is a favorite. Lunch specials daily except Sunday's.
Freshest sushi in great neck. Very kind and fast service, always delicious and clean.
Pretty spot with great service and great help. Fresh sushi with generous selection. Decor is beautiful. Prices could be a little better. Staff is really nice. I would definitely come back. Their special california roll is pretty good indeed.
Shoshaku Restaurant is a hidden gem located in Great Neck that offers close to omakase-quality sushi in a casual setting. Pros: - Fresh and high-quality ingredients - Knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive staff Cons: - Small and intimate space: The restaurant is small and intimate, which can make it feel crowded at times. - Pricey: The sushi at Shoshaku is on the pricier side, but the quality of the ingredients and the creativity of the dishes justify the price. Overall, I had a great experience at Shoshaku Restaurant. I recommend the shoshaku set for ($88 for two). It comes in a boat and offers higher quality sushi cuts. (the photo is Shoshaku set for 4)
Truly some of the best sushi I've ever had. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. I got the lunch special with 2 salmon Avocado 1 peanut Avocado
I would live in this restaurant if i could! Quality is so good! Service phenomenal! Cute little spot for lunch and dinner. If i didn’t live in FL i would be a frequent customer here without a doubt!
Sushi are delicious! Deepfry food is little oily for foo Others are all good

Sushi is great. Rice is warm. Spicy salmon roll is a must try! Lunch options are great too.
The sushi is VERY good! I like spicy salmon is my favorite, a must try. The udon noodles are smooth wonderful!

Very fresh sushi and their other dishes were very good, too, but I wish their portions were a little bit bigger. For the exception of their Shoshaku special, I don't get full on an of their other dishes, especially the lunch special. Their homemade salad dressings are delicious, a refreshing change from the usual dressing found in other Japanese restaurants. Here's an idea for the owners : bottle your dressings & sell it!
Ordered online for pick-up. They had the food ready and everything was good and reasonably priced. However, when we opened the salmon poke bowl at home we found imitation crab in it. I am highly allergic to shellfish and sometimes imitation crab is contaminated with shellfish. The imitation crab in their poke bowls is not listed as an ingridients, so I called them and they gave me a refund for the bowl. I hope they update their menus in the future to reflect all the ingredients.
The slices of Sashimi selection were quite thin, although they did taste fresh. We loved the fried prawn tempura roll.
Food was great. We thought it was the typical quality of Chinese owned restaurant but the quality of the sushi is good. Had the oxtail fried rice, not much beef/oxtail and they were in shreds and bits. Very stingy with the meat. Kamachi was good. Agedashi tofu was not that great, the battery is thick, fried batter and a little stale.
Pretty good local Great Neck sushi restaurant. All the sushi & sashimi is prepared fresh and reasonably priced. The restaurant is not big but plenty of elbow room nonetheless. Staff is pleasant and well mannered. Overall a pleasant experience. My only concern for not giving a five star review is their miso soup is on the thin side, meaning lack of miso paste. In addition, the ginger dressing in their house salad is pretty watery. Maybe it was just an isolated incident, but let’s see next time.
Had a few of their special rolls here and sashimi deluxe. The sushi is really fresh and the rolls were good. Staff were really friendly and was seated promptly. Don't mind coming back if I'm around the area!

stopped by for lunch, had the chicken katsu and my wife had the sushi sashimi. the salad was good, the miso soup was not as hot as i would of liked, not a big deal, the chicken was cooked well and warm when it arrived, i like stuff hot but not a biggie, the portions of my wifes fish was rather small and thin, otherwise it seemed like rather decent quality.
A very weird restaurant. Although claimed to be a Japanese restaurant, the appetizers were named tapas on the menu, which I could very funny. Probably someone should explain the meaning and origin of tapas to the owner. Neither the ramen nor the don rice was done properly. The chicken don rice had no sauce/juice at all, and is basically an omelette on rice. Tasted unpleasant. The ramen, you could tell from the first bite that the soup was made from ramen soup powder. Not too good. You can tell the Japanese cuisine is nowhere near Japan, but it tasted oddly okay.

I've been coming here for 5 years and made it a point to support it all throughout the pandemic. Their service was lacking but the sushi was fresh and of good quality. I enjoyed having the Shoshaku set and brought many people here each time. I couldn't visit for a few months and when I went today, it was horrible. The fish was watery; or dry and tasteless. The rolls were stale and old. It was obvious the sushi chef has changed. The price is too high for bad sushi. I'm so sad to have lost my go to place for good sushi. Shoshaku, please bring back the quality.
Food was okay. A waitstaff went up to me and asked me and my friends to pay tip. We were not leaving and just started the payment. This waitress was extremely aggressive and demanded a level of tip from us. We split the checks, so each of us had separate tips. We were planning to just tip the table, but she kept on insisting and it was infuriating from a customer's standpoint.
I ordered two orders of the three roll lunch special via Grubhub. It was for a graduation party. But I was surprised by how poorly the rolls were made. It’s like a child made them. The rolls were falling apart and unlike what I had seen before. I also paid an extra dollar for brown rice, but they completely ignored the request. I don’t even want my dollar back. I will no longer be going to Shoshaku after this experience.
Food was ok. But I never had sushi that have fish scale in it. This is my first time eating sushi with fish scale . It’s like a big no no for sushi.
Horrible customer service and the food is nasty. I don’t usually do ratings, in fact this is my first ever. I ordered sushi and fried chicken wings. The chicken wings were bloody and raw on the inside. The sushi was chunky, literally disgusting, it wasn’t seasoned properly and very soggy. As if it was there for days, it also had a foul smell. I called for a refund and was even willing to return the food, but they evidently through their customer service didn’t care a bit about my experience with that meal. I will never order from them again.
Not sure how the other 5* pop up here or maybe we were unlucky. All our miso soup we ordered were just diluted thin miso with no tofu, no kelp. Just water. When we asked the waiter said he can get some tofu bits/kelp for us...but why wait for us to ask? One person in our party ordered mixed veggie bentonite box...the waiter was surprised as nobody has ordered that before. He came back with some random veggies that were tossed together. No flavour, no thought has gone into preparing this dish. Take it off the menu if you can't be bothered to have the right ingredients for it. Don't tell us the chef gave us 'extra vegetables ' on the side to make up for what he doesn't have for the dish. I rarely write a poor review...this is my first one 🤬

I am very disappointed with Shoshaku. I have ordered from Shoshaku several times in the past and if I could, I would give Shoshaku zedro stars. I placed an order via DoorDash and I mentioned in my order for a winter chill that I would like spicy mayo on the side. I then received an email from DoorDash notifying me that Shoshaku charged me $1.14 for spicy mayo when on their DoorDash menu, spicy mayo is listed as $1.00. It's not about the money however, it is about the principle.
