Fantastic hamburgers. Family owned and run. Great food. Quaint atmosphere. Owner is always there, makes everyone feel welcome. Very good parking at city owned lot on corner.
Great burger! Wonderful seasoning on the already steller fries! Terrific, courteous, fast service! Sam is very friendly! Awesome deli!
I lovely little deli with a homey outdoor seating area. Hundred percent recommend the food was absolutely delicious. (AND THE PRICE WAS AMAZING!)
First off just want to say that Sam and his wife are both the kindest and sweetest people on earth. Second, the food there is absolutely AMAZING! No matter what you get you know it will be delicious!
Amazing food amazing value for the lunch special! Very complete meal!
I've been here lots of times and have had multiple items on the menu. I would recommend the chicken kabob plate. It comes with salad, hummus, and fruit. The turkey melt is very tasty too!
My family loves Sam's Deli!! It's a treat for us when we get to go there. Everything is always delicious!! We'll be back!
We are so happy we found this hidden gem, the food, service and outdoor dining is so amazing. Everything homemade and fresh. The owner and staff are so friendly..you come in as a customer but leave as a friend.
This place has and exceptional amount of character with amazing food. The service is top tier and makes you feel like you’re at home. I would recommend to visitors of Homewood and locals 10 out of 10!
Best hamburger in the world!! So flavorful, thick patty and Big bun, loaded and just like homemade. Grilled onions too. AS Sam says, "big, not small!" All their menu is delicious, owner so friendly!
The best Mediterranean food in Birmingham Alabama. Sam is the best owner. Excellent Customer Service. You can sit outside and still be warm. Great patio for birthday parties.
Wow the reviews weren't kidding, this really is the best restaurant in Homewood, Alabama. Service: As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the staff and they were very friendly, welcoming and felt at ease. They bring you your food when it is ready and you are not rushed/pressured on the menu. Menu: They have LOTS to choose from, the name suggests because it is a deli 👀 salads, sandwiches, burgers, sides, wraps, etc. I got myself a mushroom and swiss burger, it looks so much like Five Guys but maybe that's just me 🤭 the fries are top notch too, with the seasoning being the icing on top. Atmosphere: They have an outdoor patio, but if you're feeling chilly, they always have an area with a couple heaters, just about what you would expect from a restaurant. Overall, this is a must-go when it comes to food, definitely going back whenever I have the chance. Also, apologies for the one blurry photo. 🙃
This place has super-friendly service, plus quality food and generous portions. The hummus is top notch, but so are the burgers and fries. If the weather is nice, sit out back and enjoy the mural, or people-watch at a table on the front sidewalk.
We enjoyed the food in this casual restaurant. Sam and his staff are always friendly. Many good choices including the best bacon cheeseburger in town, though my restrictive diet won't allow me the pleasure, and the price can't be beat. Very good grilled chicken, severed on any salad, as a sandwich, or on the specials plates. Likely still the best falafel too.
Great burger, and the mediterranean stuff is good too. It's basically a one-man (the eponymous Sam) show. This is a counter service, make your own drink, plastic utensil situation. Parking stinks, seating is laissez faire. USUALLY a pretty good wait of 6-10 minutes. Folks don't mind and neither should you. Phone in ahead if desired. Guess who answers the phone??? GO- used to be a zillion places like this, often specializing in hot dogs. Fewer every year. Go!
It was... okay. I got the "chicken special" that wound up costing nearly over $12 with a drink. The portion and amount of food they give you is very nice. The grilled chicken had flavor but seemed somewhat dry. The salad was okay and the hummus was great. The dish is piled high with rice under the grilled chicken. Would I come back? Probably not.... unless, every restaurant in the area was closed... Then I would consider coming back. If the grilled chicken wasn't so dry and/or if the prices weren't so high - I would consider it.
This is more akin to all the other Greek spots you see like Al's or Gyros, and you can tell by the quality of ingredients they are using. Fries were OK, burger was flat and overcooked and very bland. Water from the soda fountain tastes like mildew, meaning they haven't cleaned their lines in while. If this is supposedly the best burger I'm town, I'm moving.
Update 2024. Decide to give it one last try as I kept hearing the burgers were amazing. First concern was when the cook pulled pre-cooked burgers out the frig and threw it on the grill. Nothing appears to be made fresh here. Cooking a burger to order would seem so simple and make all the difference. Also they used turkey bacon on my burger instead of regular bacon and I'm ok with that but I wish maybe they had communicated that they were out of regular bacon. Shockingly the precooked burger wasn't terrible it just wasn't good. Just very basic. Fries were slightly undercooked and soft. Overall 5 out of 10 for the burger. What was once a neighborhood staple has now become a stale joke. I've been pushing my review of this place off because I remember how great this place was and how fresh everything tasted. I wanted to give it a few tries before a did an official review to make sure I was not experiencing a one off moment. Today I ordered the Gyro Special plate which is now $2 more expensive than it used to be a few years ago. I could justify this price increase if the quality remained the same but I've been here maybe 5 or 6 times over the last 6 months and what's clear is that the quality has gone done. The star of my dish is supposed to be the gyro and it has lost any sense of pride. It tasted like it's been sitting there for days. It was stale with no flavor at all. I used to love their gyros. The wild rice has experienced a similar declined. It tasted like it was made at least a day before with no real flavor either. That's pretty much sums up my overall experience here in the last 6 months. They gave me quantity. A lot of gyro slices, but I only ate 2 because they were so bad. A lady right after me ordered the chicken special plate. I saw the cook take a piece of already cooked chicken that looked like it could have been from the day before and just heated it on the grill. So disappointing when it would take a few minutes to sauté chicken and make it fresh. This place used to have some amazing Kafta but last time I tried it, the kafta was so bland. I hate the flavor of the food and the freshness has left this place. Hopefully they can turn it around. The burgers are still pretty good because they actually cook the burgers when ordered. Avoid any plates because chances are it will be pre-made and reheated. 3.2 / 10
🤮 stopped in to get a burger and fries and had to walk out omg. I had high hoped bc the good reviews but yuck At first he wasn't using gloves and honestly I don't care about that, but he used his hand to wipe off the counter and then took raw shrimp out of the cooler, put it in the microwave for a few seconds then it was still raw and he put it on the grill. Then he put my buns on the grill, Then he took a precooked burger out of the cooler and put it on the grill! All with the same hands and not washing after he touched raw shrimp and wiped the counters. The pickles were also being stored under the counter by the spices unrefrigerated... Super disappointed to see a gross cold burger not made fresh :(
