A long time standing restaurant in the Houston area. if I remember the story correctly, this is the third generation now running the restaurant. It got decent parking on the side in the back. The food is delicious. I feel like well price for what you get not spectacular. That’s why I’m gonna get them an above average score of four stars five stars that I would say that it’s like one of the better restaurants around Houston. I do find the selection to be Good and I like the place I plan on going back. They have a nice conference room that week that we’ve used as a networking event over the lunch hour the staff are extremely friendly and courteous. The inside is a little dated cause it’s been around again for over three generations I think 50 to 70 years or something like that in the Houston area so we could definitely use a nice upgrade and appearance but not old just feeling Ultimately would recommend food was freshly made seafood taste. Fresh flavors are tasty and I look forward to going back.
We went to Christie's for a milestone birthday (I could have chosen anywhere, but I picked Christie's). As always, it was incredible. The drinks were tasty & the icy beer was served in frosted mugs as it should be. The soup (crayfish bisque) was loaded with crayfish & yummy, but could have used a little more Sherry & pepper. Salad were fresh & ranch dressing delish. Love their garlic croutons. And for sure, the main course for all of us was the fried shrimp, which they've been known for for over 100 years. It's the best in this part of Texas - crispy fried on the outside, but NOT greasy or heavily breaded, with huge butterflied shrimp inside cooked to perfection. I love mine with their homemade remolaude sauce, while my mom prefers their red cocktail sauce with hers - can't go wrong with either. For my side, I had broccoli which comes as a massive portion, so plenty to take home. Then, for my birthday celebration, they brought me an enormous slice of the best chocolate cake I've ever had with icing that tasted like fudge. Plenty to share with all at the table. All in all, except for missing our regular server, Amalia, it was a perfectly delightful meal with great staff to round out the celebration.
Christie's is a fine dining experience. The food was great, although not everything was available but that shows that they cook it fresh. When they run out, thats it. There is a variety of seafood from different kinds of shrimp platters, tilapia, catfish, oysters, clams, flounder, and trout. They also have poboy sandwhiches. The coleslaw was fantastic and the onion rings were perfectly toasted and well presented. I believe they make their own sauces like marinara and tartar sauce. The service was excellent, ask for Maria, she did a great job finding me something without shrimp due to me being allergic. The atmosphere is very nice, be sure you are dressed well for the occasion, the inside reminds you of being inside a ship. If you like seafood, check this place out.
Such an amazing experience! Here on vacation with my girlfriend, we were suppose to go to Kamp Houston but after hearing it was a 2 hour wait for nothing we decided to go next door . And when I tell you it’s been the best place we’ve been in Houston thus far. The food was amazing . I got a pasta and my friend got the shrimp and blacken rice and we both loved it . We mentioned to the waiter that it was my friends birthday and they surprised us with a chocolate cake with trick candles that we did not ask for. The owner even came out and greeted each table. It was a pleasant experience and we recommend you stop by ! Christie’s is great!
I've been a patron of Christie's for over 50 years. My father would take us to the Austin location in special occasions. The food is consistently wonderful, and service is impeccable. I had the oyster stew, which was delicious. The salad is always fresh. I chose the fried oysters, which did not disappoint.
We, party of two visited here for the second time on Tuesday 8/2/2022 around 7 pm. Even though the restaurant closes at 8 pm, we still received superior customer service. The staff were welcoming. We were sat immediately and we were not rushed to order or finish our meals. Our server Deani was great! The food was good, seemed fresh, was a good portion size and was delivered fast. We had the 5 oz salmon prepared medium well. Mine was blackened. My cousins was “ginger soy style”. We also had the au gratin potatoes which are one of my favorite things on the menu, and green beans. The food doesn’t have a lot of seasoning, but adding salt and pepper to mine did the job. I had a frozen mango margarita which was good. The dinner salad that came with the meal was nothing special but I liked the chipotle ranch dressing. They also serve dinner rolls with the meal. The food is reasonably priced. The atmosphere was quiet. The decor was nautical. I would return.
I passed this place regularly and finally got a chance to try it. I'm so glad I did. Deani was our dynamic server. She made sure we had everything we needed. She was top tier! They had a lunch menu that offered a great selection of items. My guest and I ended up ordering the same thing: fried catfish, dirty rice, and Caesar salad. That was the combination for a comfortable lunch price. The food was so well seasoned. The catfish had a slight spice kick and fried to perfection. The rice was moist and flavorful. Now the salad? They make their dressings in house and I could tell! The croutons were fresh. Delicious warm bread and butter came to the table before our meal. I also ordered a blackberry margarita, which, to my surprise, was a frozen. It was so delicious and hit the spot 😵💫😂 one and done! If Deani is working, please have her make it for you. Thank me later. Lol. I will most definitely go back and try other dishes. I'm bringing friends!
I have been going to Christie's restaurant for over fifty years. Our parents took us here when we were kids and we still love going even now we are over 3 hours away. They have, hands-down the best fried shrimp I have ever eaten. Their lobster thermidor is also out of this world. But the favorite thing on the menu to me is the remoulade sauce. Ive never had anything like it in any restaurant. In fact every time we come in i make sure to get some of the sauce to go. That sauce and the shrimp is one of my all time favorite meals. So glad they're still going strong and we intend to keep enjoying them for years to come.
I live in Austin and finally decided to try Christie's, it's claim to fame being the oldest restaurant in Houston still standing. Their menu states they survived the first pandemic (1917) and will survive this one also. I certainly hope so. I decided to do an early dinner and avoid the rush. They have lots of parking behind the restaurant, which is nice. Inside was spotless (I'm big about restaurants being clean, having worked in them when I was young.) They still use cloth table covers and napkins which I appreciate. The staff is extremely good. Great service without hovering or interrupting which is a skill. I tried the fan favorite fried gulf shrimp. Huge shrimp fried without a touch of grease that melt in your mouth. Fantastic home made tartar sauce that made me ask for seconds. I paired this with Rockefeller Oysters that melt in your mouth. Finished the meal with key lime pie and coffee. Nearly had to crawl to get out. I'm always reluctant to try local tourist traps but this one captured me. I shall be back.
First visit to Houston's oldest restaurant, if you can believe that. Who knew? (Not us.) First, the food. Outstanding. Large menu, lots of selections. But not a huge menu. Some surprising omissions, such as scallops. The impression I get is that they know what they do well and stick to it. Eating it was the proof. We will definitely return to sample more dishes to be sure, but all we selected this visit were as good as any we have ever had: shrimp, flounder, rainbow trout, oysters (none fried). Typical Texas-sized servings. The coleslaw was particularly delicious, but mostly because it's just how *I* like it; YMMV. The scalloped potatoes were delicious, but too much cheese; again, YMMV. We have every expectation that many other dishes we did not have room to enjoy, but could see as they were being served to patrons at other tables, will be just as delicious. The Key Lime pie was delicious; they do not make it, but "purchase the best" from a bakery they readily admit. That's just another illustration of how they stick to what they do best: preparing seafood. The wine list is short, but adequate (only six reds, plus some whites, all available by the glass, reasonably-priced). They have steaks, also ... but why? (Some just don't like fish, I assume). The pictures of their dishes that are available on various web sites are exactly what you will get. Attractive preparation and presentations. I'm not sure how this restaurant escaped my attention for more than 21 years. Despite its consistently high ratings and very positive reviews on various websites, I was prepared to be underwhelmed, since it never popped up on any of my searches before. And, at first view, I was immediately leery; the building looked old, as one would expect had it been having its maintenance deferred. While it may be old, it is indeed in great shape, and inside it's clear that order and cleanliness are very important. The tables are spread out, obviously actually limiting the number of patrons who can be seated. The tables are covered with paper tablecloths, presumably for easy changing, and paper, but not cloth, napkins are provided in abundance. All servers and staff are masked. By the time we were leaving, all tables were occupied, three parties were awaiting being seated, and there was a short line outside. We finally understood why their parking lot has so many spaces! Clearly, a very popular establishment, intent on reassuring patrons of their concern and adherence to safety practices. This is not a fancy restaurant. The forte here is the seafood. You will not be disappointed.
Been to this location several several times family owned business amazing place cannot tell you to go anywhere else. If you haven’t checked this place out go check it out. Great oysters great shrimp, and Christie pride is probably the best thing on the menu. Can’t go wrong. go have a good margarita and enjoy some great seafood with great staff.
First time at Christie's Seafood. The experience was excellent, our server was knowledgeable, professional, and nice. The food was fresh, tasty, and didn't disappoint us at all. The place was clean and had good music and the volume was perfect to have a conversation while enjoying your meal.
Had an amazing experience for my first time here. The food was great, the steak was cooked perfectly, the salad was crisp and fresh. My boyfriend had the salmon Royale and he was thoroughly pleased with his meal as well! I will definitely be back and will also refer my friends! Thank you for the amazing experience!
My mom used to bring me here in the 70's for special occasions. The food is still stellar. I had the baked fish with crab n shrimp and a soft "dressing ". I've never had anything like it. The scalloped potatoes were delicious, cheesy and perfectly cooked. (had enough to take home for another meal). The village salad was a little boring, I expected more and smaller pieces. Niko Niko's has one more typical of my Greek travels. My husband had the fish sandwich. Which was a huge snapper fried filet with fries and cole slaw. He couldn't finish it all !! A rare occurrence. Oh, yummy sweet cornbread was served with the salads and 2 more bread rolls with the meal. I could have just eaten breads and butter for a meal!! The service was excellent and friendly. It's a quiet place with tons of seating and a good-sized parking lot in a busy section of Westheimer. We arrived 5 minutes after opening for lunch on a weekday. I plan to return and try other dishes.
What a wonderful experience. We had my little sister’s engagement party here. The staff, the food, drinks, and setup were all top notch. Loved everything about the banquet room. They helped to make an extremely important event even more lovely. Can’t praise them enough. I’ll definitely consider this team for my next big event and refer them as well!
Historic, friendly, professional, delicious. I needed a break from BBQ, so researched some of the oldest restaurants in Houston and found Christie’s. What a pleasant experience! It’s an old school, full service seafood restaurant your parents and grandparents would’ve gone to and been happy to take you. The service is friendly and efficient providing instant comfort. I never felt rushed nor as if I were just another customer to turn. That’s refreshing in this era.
Christie’s Seafood & Steaks is a true Houston institution—it’s actually the city’s oldest restaurant, originally founded in 1917 by a first-generation immigrant from Greece. In 1955, the current family owners came to the U.S. and formed a strong bond with Mr. Christie. Eventually, the restaurant was passed on to them, with one unique condition: the new owner had to adopt the Christie name. The history here runs deep, and the family behind it is just as remarkable. If you’re visiting Houston, this place is a must. And whatever you do, don’t miss the crab balls—they’re unforgettable.
Went with my mom and roommate for dinner everything was fantastic. Christie's has been around forever and has always been consistent quality. Everything was great. I had the the salmon and it was fresh and flavorful. Roommate scarfed down his blackened catfish and mom enjoyed her gumbo and fried shrimp. The owner was there and was super sweet and talked to my mom about her friends recent passing. My mom's friend loved Christie's and we made sure to have a ceremonial spot for her at dinner. Was a great experience with family and the atmosphere was perfect! 5 stars check it out!
This was FANTASTIC! We are visiting from San Antonio and came upon Christie’s on Google Maps. I would describe the ambience as old-school classy. The prices were great, especially for the upscale food. Our salads were fresh, crisp and came with homemade dressing. My shrimp Santorini was amazing! Plenty of shrimp, perfectly cooked with a wonderful sauce. The Gulf Snapper Fillet Greek Style was lovely, and the Potatoes Au Gratin was great! We can’t wait to come back and try the fried shrimp.
Christie’s Seafood & Steaks is a Houston institution with a welcoming, casual atmosphere. The stuffed snapper, fried shrimp, and other seafood dishes are flavorful and generously portioned. Service is friendly and attentive, often provided by family members, which adds a personal touch. It’s a great spot for family dinners, casual nights out, or anyone craving fresh, well-prepared Gulf Coast seafood. Highly recommend trying their daily specials!
My family of four had an outstanding experience at Christie’s Seafood in Houston, thanks especially to our incredible server, Brandoly. He was attentive from start to finish—checking in at the perfect times, never letting our drinks run low, and making sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. We ordered the crab cakes, oysters, and fried/stuffed shrimp, and everything was fantastic. The crab cakes were full of flavor with hardly any filler, the oysters were fresh and delicious, and the shrimp were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Brandoly truly elevated the experience with his warm attitude, great recommendations, and genuine care. You can tell he takes pride in what he does. If you’re coming to Christie’s, ask for Brandoly—you’ll be in great hands. Highly recommend!
My mom grew up coming to Christie’s almost 50 years ago- I am in Houston for a couple days for work and she said I HAD to come try it. Happy to say that Christie’s holds up to their reputation! The fried shrimp are the best I’ve ever had. The shrimp are butterflied and the batter is garlicky and well seasoned. They serve entrees with French fries AND onion rings plus salad. My server Jerry was brand new and delivered fantastic service. You have to try this Houston staple that has been around for 108 years! Bonus- The owner Maria was very sweet and welcoming!
We try a different restaurants weekly. Overall it was very good . I would say we would come back but we only eat at a restaurant once. To many to try in Houston area. I do believe the steak could have had more seasoning on it. Fried shrimp was very tasty. Wife loved the fresh crab dish. Steak was tender. I was surprised restaurant was not packed on a Saturday night. No issue getting a table for 4
Our first time at Christie’s and exceeded our expectations. We started with the crab cakes which melted in our mouth, so good! For entrees we got the fried seafood platter, grilled Greek style fish sandwich with broccoli and coleslaw. For dessert we got their chocolate cake. We also had the mexata cocktail which was a bit on the sweeter side and two different Pinot Grigio. Overall everything was yum and would definitely recommend eating here if you haven’t already!
Imposible no regresar. Hay que probar todos y cada uno de sus platillos en la carta.
I've passed by Christie's a million times and never stopped in, but after seeing their influencer ad on Instagram, my mom and I decided to have lunch there today. Everything from the service, customer engagement (a nearby customer came over to offer her testimony on why she loves the restaurant and has been a customer for 60 years), service, and food was great. The yeast loaves & cornbread were some of the best bread we've had and both of our lunch dishes were tasty, plentiful (we both had leftovers), and under $20 (including a salad)! 10 outta 10 and we'll definitely be back😋
We decided to eat here based off of a Google search. Quincy was our server! He was phenomenal, funny, and knowledgeable. The food was amazing! Get the onion rings as an appetizer. Softly fried to golden perfection in a batter that taste so “mmm mmm good”. When in Houston I will be eating here again. Also, parking is easy and there wasn’t a wait when we went.
Finally got to eat here after hearing my grandparents rave about Christies for decades. Not in town often but a couple of weeks ago, we were running errands and drove past Christies. I remember hearing about how much my grandparents loved this place so we decided to stop in. What a phenomenal experience. From the hostess, to our server, Amalia to Maria Christie we were treated like VIP's. Amalia was so knowledgeable about Seafood and the menu. Her suggestions were perfect, absolutely delicious. We had the Shrimp Gumbo as an appetizer, best gumbo I've had on the Gulf coast, hands down! We also had the fried and stuffed shrimp plate, again, delicious. The Shrimp are fresh, wild caught in Texas. Enjoy talking to Ms. Christie about the history of the restaurant. We will be coming in to town more often to eat here, Highly recommend!
We’ve been going here for decades, and the food and service has always been wonderful!
As always, one of the best restaurants there is especially their seafood dishes they are to die for. The waiter had excellent customer service. This restaurant has now become my favorite place to eat. I recommend Christie's to everyone.
Another evening out with my Beautiful friends Miss Lily Hakimi, Mrs Faye Mobley& Mrs Nell Pleasant a Christie's Steak and Seafood Oyster Bar The food is excellent loaded with flavor and great seasons The dessert will melt in your mouth and The staff are extremely professional I truly recommend you stop by
Excelent place. Loved the food, the service and the warm cozy ambience. Everything was perfect, and they treated us very nicely and warmly.
Been going here for years! Great food and service. Nice quite dining room. Have had 2 birthday parties in the bar area over the years and they did a wonderful job!
I had the honor of dining at Christie’s Seafood on Westheimer, and I can honestly say it was an unforgettable experience. The food was absolutely delicious fresh, flavorful, and prepared with care. The service was beyond excellent genuine hospitality that made me feel like family. You can tell this place has years of experience and tradition behind every plate and every smile. I highly recommend Christie’s Seafood to anyone looking for great food, great people, and a true taste of Texas. Don’t miss
The food was delicious! If you like seafood, you’ll love Christie’s. I had a variety of shrimps and fish and everything was perfect. The owner is absolutely wonderful and one of the nicest people I’ve met. The service is top notch and they go the distance to make sure you have a great experience. Definitely recommend!
Absolutely astounding in all aspects. Service was wonderful, food was top tier. Can't wait to go again!
More expensive & fancier than the old Christie’s of the late 1900s with many locations- but what else isn’t more expensive ?? Not crowded at all for lunch making it great for a relaxed, conversive lunch. Glad this original is still HERE!
Service, BREAD, their ‘famous’ fried shrimp…. AMAZING! The fried shrimp was different, I was expecting some regular fried shrimp, but they bread it differently than anywhere else I’ve been. I can’t believe I haven’t been here all these years. We really liked the family owned feel, you can feel it with the courteous service and the genuine smiles. I will continue to eat here as much as I can! Such a nice gem in the middle of Houston.
Absolutely love this place! I’ve been coming here for years. I used to live nearby, but even after moving to the Heights, I still make it a point to stop by whenever I’m on this side of town. Sitting at the bar with a great drink and some delicious food is always a highlight. The owners and staff are truly wonderful—genuine, welcoming, and committed to making sure you’re taken care of from the moment you walk in until the moment you leave. It’s no surprise this place has been around for over 60 years—you can feel the charm the moment you walk through the door. Everything is made fresh to order—no heat lamps, no shortcuts. Every dish is prepared from scratch, and the quality speaks for itself. This spot is a true Houston staple and an absolute must-visit for seafood lovers. Go see for yourself—you won’t be disappointed!
We stopped in on Sunday and had a perfect experience. Wonderful service, a very nice conversation with the owner and the food was excellent. I've never had Shrimp Creole this good anywhere. Amazing! Tried a stuffed Shrimp, which was also great. Hot fresh rolls, cornbread, salads, everything was first rate. The in-laws finally got us to try it and it certainly won't be the last time. Thank You!
Everything was good, service was excellent, and atmosphere was great. I was there for a wedding
We are from out of state. When traveling we look for the establishments with history. Owners are very hands on. Authentic staff, food, atmosphere and love for customers. Will be back all the way from South Dakota.
Great seafood. Great Staff. The wife loved the Blackberry Margarita. I had to leave the waiter a #2dollarring
Christi's Seafood & Steaks has been around for our family since the early 1970's. My wife, mother and siblings would travel from Rosenberg on Sundays (after church) to eat the best fried shrimp in town and the best juiciest ribeye steaks at a reasonable price. This was even way before the Southwest Freeway to Richmond/Rosenberg was completed in 1976. It has remained the whole family's favorite place to eat. In August of 2019, we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary and enjoyed a menu of fried shrimp and juicy ribeyes for our extended family. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food as well as the setting in their private dining room. Up until now, they still have the best fried shrimp in town and the best ribeye steaks. The restaurant's setting is quiet and elegant, and with very attentive waiters and staff.
We had 20 people for dinner last night. Maria provided us we the reservations even though they were packed for Lent. We had so much fun!! Food and service was excellent ! Everyone had a great great time! Thank you so much Maria for a great evening.🤗 Beverly
Another great lunch at Christie’s today. Always enjoy the greeting by Maria. Excellent service and my usual order of fried shrimp with extra remoulade sauce was on point. My wife had the tilapia almondine and loved it. We were even given a piece of a special Greek cake to take home. Looking forward to our next visit.
The food here was absolutely amazing! We started with the crab cakes and stuffed shrimp both were delicious. For our entrées, we had the grilled snapper and the salmon royale, which is a must-try. Our server was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. We’ll definitely be coming back to this hidden gem soon!
After hearing about this place for years on the Radio....my wife and I drove down there to try it. The food was worth the drive! The Seafood was fresh and properly cooked (rare even for Houston) the service was great, the dip appetizer recommendation was perfect. The house salad was VERY fresh and what really impressed us....one of the owners (or their daughter) came by the table twice....was very friendly and super nice!. We enjoy restaurants all over the country and now we have been here...We will be back for sure!
Have passed by Christie's all my life. TOTALLY missed out by not going in. My girlfriend and I loved all that we ordered. She has a list of things she'll get in the next few visits. Once again - HUGE mistake to not try Christie's.
Just ate here and am so glad we came. Deani, our server, was phenomenal. This was our first time and she shared the history of the restaurant which goes back to 1917!!! It relocated over the years but has maintained its seafood expertise, which is what truly counts. I had the blackened salmon and tomato green beans, a Greek recipe. Fabulous!
This place was surprisingly good! I thought it would be decent but overpriced, It wound up being a little expensive but actually quite worth it. The "Christie's plate" of seafood was incredible. The fish was moist and flavorful, the rice side went with it very complimentary. The seafood gumbo was excellent and as soon as I touched one of those warm, fresh rolls I knew I was going to eat at least four of them tonight. Our server even brought us a little bag of some to take home with our leftovers without even asking, he just noticed I was scarfing them down like crazy and decided to be nice. I had one for breakfast with some jam the next day. Very good.
Wow delicious seafood,exelent atencion.
Muy bueno excelente
Outstanding family owned restaurant with an impressive variety of fresh seafood. We had Greek style grilled trout and snapper. The house made crab cakes are also quite extraordinary. The family and staff are all very lovely people so it’s not surprising that they’ve been in business for over 100 years!
When we moved to Houston years ago. I use to work at the seafood place next door to Christie's. We always wanted to go to Christie's but only been there one time to have a drink at the bar because we couldn't drink next door. This past Saturday 12-13-2025 our friend bought my partner, mother in law and I to eat at Christie's. It was 4 of us and sat in a booth, we ordered taramasalata for an appetizer, none of ever had it before, let me tell you that was so good 😊. We ended up ordering 2 fried catfish poboys with dirty rice and coleslaw, 1 oyster poboy with coleslaw and fries and fried shrimp 🦐 platter and for dirty rice instead of fries on the platter but it still was served with fries, didn't make a big deal about it. All 4 of us really enjoyed the food and had good time dining. Our server was nice, no disrespect but he had a little lisp and was attentive, but once our server never returned to our table, our friend tried to get his attention but ended up having to find someone to bring the check ✅ and togo boxes. I guess he was informed that we needed the check, he finally came by our table and gave us the check and togo boxes. Had a great time and meal. The only negative was that (1)the shrimp platter was supposed to have dirty rice and not fries, and (2) our server brought our food but never returned to our table after we had to ask someone that we were ready to check out and go. I would take one star ⭐ off because it wasn't busy, but still giving 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ because I work in the restaurant hospitality industry, and understand sometimes there's hiccups here and there. Overall great food and dining experience. I recommend Christie's and definitely will return and try new things on the menu. Thanks MC
Excellent in all categories! First time visitor. Had Salmon Royale, salad, side. Of course, two take home desserts--key lime pie & chocolate layer cake. All superb! Our waitress was very much on point too! Will definitely go again.
Moved here from Massachusetts; one thing we missed were the seafood restaurants along the Maine coast and in Boston. We were told about Christie's, and it looked like the places we used to go to. It did not disappoint. Great selection of seafood. Leans toward fresh, wild caught gulf fish, so selection is a little different than the northeast. Service was spectacular, no waiting for anything. Good wine list, and full-servce bar. A bit upscale, but not pretentious. And the owners, third generation, are a delight. Treat yourself and family to a special night out. Oh, the warm rolls and whipped butter,OMG!
Es el único restaurante en Houston que todavía tiene finger crabs empanizadas. Todos los platillos son de primera a un precio excelente. Lo recomiendo mucho.
Riquisima la comida y tranquilo para disfrutar con la familia y/o amigos
Men encanta muchos los camarones
Es un lugar muy bonito les recomiendo
Wife and I went Friday night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I had always wanted to eat here and since we had a hotel in the Galleria it made this the perfect opportunity! Service was good, our waitress was very friendly however drink refills which are handled by bussers was slow from time to time. I upgraded my salad to the baby Romaine and it was an EXCELLENT choice! My wife had the Christie's pride, she enjoyed it very much. I had the Rainbow Trout Almondine. I was a little disappointed in mine but it wasn't bad just not as good as my memories of the one my dad used to make, not their fault! Also, was disappointed in the sides. Augratin potatoes were chunks and not sliced and the spinach could really use more flavor, maybe butter and garlic. If in the area I would return but for a special occasion I would probably go somewhere nicer.
Drove by and had to stop at the “oldest” eatery in Houston (est. 1917). The seafood gumbo was excellent, served hot with great flavor. My entree was “Christie’s Pride”, a “original” baked flounder dish with a seafood dressing, it was good, but not great. Service was good at the beginning, but seemed to disappear, with no follow up after the meal was served. I’m just traveling thru, but would try something else next time.
Great place for your traditional fried seafood favorites. The fish is fresh and tasty. The breading is light and fried to a perfect crisp. The servings are hearty and filling. I also tried the shrimp gumbo. It was a good gumbo with ample amounts of shrimp included. However,it was lacking that Cajun hot zing that makes a great gumbo standout from the rest. The service was friendly but a bit slow due to understaffing that is hopefully resolved as the post Covid economy kicks into gear. The atmosphere is warm with many types of mounted fish adorning the walls. There are also some great photos of Houston as it existed 50 or more years ago. This is a good place to enjoy a quiet seafood meal with family or friends. It is not the most trendy or high energy type of establishment if you are looking to get something more out of your experience than just a good meal.
it's been a long time since we stopped at Christie's. Everyone was pleasant from the host, who greeted us to the helper, packing our doggy bag. My wife ordered the fried oyster poboy, and it was very good. I ordered the seafood platter. The side salad was good and the broccoli substituted for the French fries was a huge portion. Only 3 items came on the platter. Two fried shrimps, a stuff crab, and one fried catfish. I guess I was expecting more items, such as fried oyster and scallops. It's my fault for not reading the menu. The shrimp and stuff crab were excellent. The batter on the catfish was very hard, not light and flaky. I had to chew through the crust slowly. znext time I'll try the grilled platter. the carrot cake was excellent too.
Excellent service and atmosphere to enjoy a great meal. Food is very good. Prices are avg for the quality in this area. Menu is limited in my opinion. Would like to see more sauces for fish meals. Definitely recommend and see if you like it as much. Had them make me a topshelf melt down Margarita and it was awesome!
Lovely old school, classy, tranquil place. Special shoutout to Andre- exceptionally knowledgeable and polite. All the staff are great for that matter. The food was nice overall; a good variety with good taste and portion size. That being said, it is a bit too heavy and old school in my opinion. But nonetheless, I’d still happily go back.
PRO'S: Christie's Seafood & Steaks is a Houston Institution. Our group had the breaded fried shrimps (fine), rainbow trout (fair) and excellent halibut, a special. We had an excellent white rhone wine with the fish. CON'S: Few dining changes makes visits predictable, both good and bad. SUMMARY: We enjoy Christie's on occasion and will return for great breaded fried shrimp.
Food was great. I had the seafood platter (1 catfish fillet, 2 fried shrimp, stuffed crab and a side) and for desert the banana foster pie. I forgot to take pictures.. Wait staff also did a good job. Restaurant felt outdated, but the food was good.
Food was not as good as expected. Over priced food. Stuffed Crab is horrible. The fried shrimp has way too much batter. The crawfish bisque was missing sherry wine. It taste like canned soup. My mojito was basically sparkling flavored mint water. The key lime pie was the only reason I gave a 3. Skip this experience and go get some real seafood!!
Good portion sizes. Nice selection of fresh fish. Visited for the first time on a Thursday evening around 6:40 pm. We were greeted and sat immediately. Our server Maria V was great! The fish tasted fresh but overall the food was bland (lacked seasoning). I appreciated the complimentary hot dinner rolls. The house salad was bland. They served some of thickest cut calamari I’ve ever had. It lacked seasoning/flavor and tasted a bit rubbery to me. It may be the worst I’ve ever had. I ordered the blackened salmon (5oz) with au gratin potatoes. The salmon was prepared the way I requested it. The potatoes had an interesting flavor. Not bad - just different. I paid $16.18 for this meal. My cousin ordered Bronzini prepared Greek style - pan broiled with olive oil, lemon and oregano. He also had a berry iced tea. They charge for refills on tea. It took an hour to get our entrees. The server did explain the whole fish took longer to prepare. The atmosphere was quiet with low lighting. Very relaxing. Many of the patrons are elderly Caucasian people.
First time at Christie's and I was pretty blown away with how good all the side dishes were. Everything from the luscious au gratin potatoes, to the fluffy dirty rice, to the simple but perfectly crunchy fresh coleslaw were all clearly made in house with care. The calamari appetizer was lightly battered & perfectly crispy but a little on the salty side (the tomato dipping sauce was excellent). My blackened fish sandwich seriously lacked flavor but I'm hoping it was a one off. My friend's fried seafood platter looked really good but I think the restaurant could benefit from offering a lunch menu, since most entrees are above $25.
I had the opportunity to visit this place on Valentines Day. There was no wait and I had been wanting to try as I’m a huge seafood lover. The food was “unseasoned” and the fish/shrimp that I purchased simple was not good. However the service was great and the drinks were ok. If I do return, it will be solely for the drinks alone NOT FOOD
The inside just looked depressing. Very old and not kept up. The food was okay... But not for the price. It is just way overpriced regular seafood. Red Lobster is honestly so much better.
Had to try because it's been here so long and I've never been. Not bad but not great. We started with crab cakes. They were definitely the most delicious crab cakes I've had. All crab meat, not a lot of breading like some places. They were a bit small but again they were almost entirely crab meat. The lemon butter they came with really made them great. My wife had the ribeye steak and potatoes au gratin. The steak was cooked perfect Medium rare. It had a great char flavor, although it did have quite a bit of fat on it. The potatoes were really delicious creamy and cheesy. I tried the lunch special with two regular fried shrimp and two stuffed shrimp. The regular fried shrimp are pretty good. The breading is light and crispy and had good flavor all on its own. The stuffed shrimp however were a little underwhelming. I think the "stuffing" was supposed to have crab in it but I didn't see or taste any crab. The outside was crispy but It seemed to be just mushy breading on the inside? I'm not sure what happened there really. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. The place was nice inside.
It was 2:00 and not busy. Took an hour to get food.on the table. The food was just efi le with a high proce tag. Waitress gave me potatoes augratin instead of fries to go with shrimp. Potatoes were not good and the shrimp is sweet for some reason. My husband's 38.00 fish was dry and overcooked. I can not recommend this place.
I came to Christie’s for the oysters. When they said the oyster dinner had the same (6-8) as an oyster/catfish combo, I got the combo. These had to be baby oysters which they charged at full sized prices. For $28, I expect full sized or more than 6-8 shriveled dime-sized mini bites. And the filets appeared to be tilapia or basa.
Staff was pleasant and the atmosphere was welcoming but the food was less than desirable. Crab cakes tasted like they came from a can, very bland. Shrimp etouffee tasted like the shrimp was forgotten then rushed to be added to the dish, no flavor tasted completely separate from the dish. Wanted to like this place because I heard and read great reviews but I'll have to pass
Very disappointing. Save your money and go elsewhere. Our party of four people dined here, and every single one of us was disappointed. This place may have history, but the food quality is extremely inconsistent and often outright bad. Houston has far too many great seafood restaurants for this to be worth it. Let's start with the gumbo. It should not be on the menu. It tasted like swamp water--no seasoning, no depth, no creole flavor at all. Adding shrimp does not magically make it seafood gumbo. It needs to be completely revamped or removed. 0/10. The oyster stew was honestly disgusting . The fish was dry and poorly prepared. I ordered "gulf snapper" expecting something comparable to red snapper, but it wasn't even close. Management explained it wasn't red snapper, but whatever it was had none of the texture or flavor of quality fish. You can buy better fish at a Houston grocery store. Shrimp dishes were a major letdown: * Famous jumbo fried shrimp: completely tasteless (Red Lobster is better and cheaper) * Stuffed shrimp: mostly gooey bread stuffing with very little crab * Shrimp cocktail: tasted like pre-boiled shrimp from a bag at Kroger * Fried shrimp overall: bland, tasted reheated and frozen The shrimp po' boy was dry, bland, and poorly assembled--no sauce, too much lettuce, no flavor. 0/10. Sides were awful, especially the au gratin potatoes, which were cold and consistently terrible. Multiple people at our table mentioned how bad they were. The rolls tasted microwaved. One person in our group ordered crawfish bisque, which tasted canned--straight Sysco food-service quality. Another ordered fried oysters, which tasted pre-cooked, then battered and fried. Easily some of the worst fried oysters any of us have had. Even the wine tasted like the bottle had been open for days. Service was slow, the menu is shallow, and the prices are not justified by the quality. On a previous visit, the food smelled bad enough that I already suspected it wasn't fresh--and unfortunately, that impression held true. Ambience felt tired and dated -- more stuck in the past than charming. It doesn't add anything positive to the experience and doesn't match the hype. This place might have been good years ago, but it's clearly coasting on reputation now. If Gordon Ramsay walked in, I doubt it would survive. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Houston deserves better.
