I used to go the downtown location back when I worked in the city, and I’ve never had a single bad meal there. In fact, all my experiences have been wonderful The east Division street location is no different. It’s been quite a few years, in fact maybe a decade since I’ve eaten at Esan but I was pleasantly surprised giving them a try again, and I was not disappointed one bit. My two favorite dishes are the pineapple fried rice and the pad prik khing. Try their chicken satay skewer appetizer as well. Their restaurant is clean with a stylish ambiance that makes you want to come back again and again and their friendly staff make sure you get prompt and speedy service if you decide to dine in at their restaurant.
wooowwww what a beautiful lunch. My taste buds are so satisfied. We went on Saturday afternoon when they first opened (12pm) and the service and food were excellent. My first time here— tried pork string beans, Thai sausage pad gai, and nam khao tod. So delicious. All so flavorful and I like the at you can adjust the spice level. All the entrees are a standard price and your protein selection. Interestingly we ordered everything “hot” but the spices were different between our three entrees. I was so impressed with the pad gai. It looked like it might taste bland, but wow was it so flavorful. I’d love to get that and the nam khao tod again! As for the string beans, I’d get it with a different protein if I get it again. Looked like the portions were small but three of us shared 3 entrees and still had a bit to take home. 9.5/10
This is my second visit, and it has definitely become my favorite Thai restaurant. Amazing flavors.
Food was great, we just stopped in for some appetizers and drinks. We especially enjoyed the crab rangoon (crab puffs) appetizer*. I was impressed by the waitress’s ability to keep up with a relatively full restaurant. *If you are a fan of this spot, be sure to try their food cart nearby - we tried the crab rangoon there (crab delight) and it was so good!
Favorite Thai in Portland but also anywhere. Perfectly cooked meats, excellent flavors and textures all around. Haven't ordered a thing here that isn't amazing. They do have ample outdoor seating with around 8 tables outside.
12/12/20: 4.75 out 5 - This review was is based on E-San Thai being delivered to my home via one of the delivery services. My wife and I was use to eating at the food cart that use to be at the Tidbits Food Carts before shutting down, and was delighted to when we found out that E-San Thai now opened a "brick and mortar" on SE Division. Hence, the delivery service since we don't live in the area. The food arrived as instructed, and prepared to our request. That's a plus, considering it was delivered. We had ordered 3 items since it was just my wife and I eating. At first, it didn't seem like much, but once we started digging in, it actually is more than plenty. It was still hot, and quite very tasty. With everything going on, we are hopeful that will be able to visit and actually have a sit-in dining experience. I definitely would recommend trying this place once and decide for yourself, if you haven't done so by now. Enjoy!
Had a great lunch experience here. The interior is well decorated and they also have outdoor seating. The Thai Sausage fried rice, Drunken noodles, pad woon sen, and bbq chicken were all tasty. The server was also very friendly and nice. Overall, left full and satisfied
Some of the best food I’ve had in Portland! The crispy trout was heavenly. I could’ve eaten an unlimited amount of their food it was just so good. The Nam Khao Tod was delectable as was the Pad See Ew.
the woman who served me today was ridiculously kind and beautiful. i moved to portland 6 months ago and nobody has treated me so nice. the food was delicious. she told me to open the windows if i wanted and let the breeze in. such a lovely moment. thank you so much!
All the food and service was rocking! Large portions! Don't let my photos confuse ya; I forgot to take photos until after I ate a bunch. I'll definitely do the yakisoba and crab puffs again!
Esan Thai is one of the nice restaurant finds on Division in Southeast Portland. This restaurant has wonderful outdoor seating which during our current situation allows for proper social distancing. The seafood dish that I had, pla Sam rod (sweet and sour fish) was bursting with flavor. My partners dish of a seafood curry was also very good. This is somewhere you need to try out. Out of all the places you have to try, definitely stop by here and check it out.
SOLID THAI EATS. Made fresh. Tastes good. The staff os pleasent and quick. The decor is sparse, but clean and they have outside seating (of course). I will definitely eat here again.

On of my top favorite restaurants in Portland!! The food is always fresh and delicious. Some must haves are the Sausage Fried Rice, Crab Fried Rice, and the Som Tum (papya salad). I prefer the Som Tum EXTRA spicy 🔥🥵 with shrimp and they never disappoint! 10/10 Food & Service
We’ve been here before but the new owner who took over a year ago, is amazing. The food was out of this world good. We had our favorite food dish: the nam khao lettuce wraps are arguably the best in the city. The taro desert was like having something wonderful made by your grandma, and the tom kha soup was so yummy. We ate her curry puffs for portland dining month; they were melt in your mouth good. This has moved to our #1 fav thai spot in portland ❤️
SO GOOD! The food and drinks were spectacular, the atmosphere was wonderful and the server was on top of things! Even with a restaurant full of people she was friendly, quick and anticipated our needs before we even had a chance to ask. We will definitely be back. 🥰
This place is my goto for take-out Thai-food. Always excellent quality, quick and prices can’t be beat. I’ve tried many items on their menu and they’ve all been great.
Besides having beautiful decor and spacious outdoor seating, the service at Esan is phenomenal. They are so kind and the food is just as good. The thai tea is a great blend, the Tom Yum soup is delicious, and so is everything else we have tried. Esan has become our new favorite Thai place.
Very good Thai that I think deserves a lot more love. The food is consistently fantastic and the servers are attentive and very kind. Highly recommend this place any time.
I had a great Take out here. Can’t wait to get back to try specials drinks and more food for dine in. I had garlic and pepper pork which Thai style and the best larb in town. The staff and chef were friendly and attentive. Ambiance were excellent. I’m definitely to go back for dine in next week with my family. Love u Esanthai on Se Division st.
Love this Thai restaurant! Looks like new owners; clean, fresh, tasty appetizers, new drink menu & authentic Thai cuisine ❤️

Staying about 2 miles away from this Thai place in Portland for work. I'm from Philly so the Thai food scene is pretty much the same as any other US city. Ordered through Grubhub and the delivery portion was great. First I would like to say... Finally... a Thai place that actually makes the highest spice level, pretty spicy. I ordered the Pad Thai and Thai Fried Rice... it's what seemed to be ordered most commonly. The food is pretty good, but the Pad Thai could use a bit more coconut sugar or tamarind sauce and the fried rice could use a bit more fish sauce. Other than that, the food was great.
