I went last night with a group of friends to celebrate my work anniversary and literally everything was AMAZING! The sommelier explained the best wines and the waitress Theta was personable and recommended the best dishes!!!!! I am vegan and I got the acorn chili and it was the perfect combination of flavors! One of my friends got the bacon jam salmon and chicken dish (can’t remember the name). The night was literally perfect !!!!
Absolutely amazing. The flavors were perfect and all put together extremely well. We took our son here for his 18th Birthday as he'll soon be graduating and going off to Culinary School. I searched for the perfect place for him to experience a Culinary experience and landed at the Chef's Table. We are so glad we did as it definitely exceeded our expectations. Even the mushrooms were so flavorful and perfectly cooked. Amazing job, Chef!
This place is AMAZING! If you’re open to trying new things & enjoy the experience of a culinary journey, you will LOVE this place. The atmosphere is 🤌🏾, the chef comes around to your table to explain the origin of his menu items & the waiters add an additional touch to the overall experience (Kyle was amazing) I went on the ”Culinary Journey” it’s $95/pp, 8 courses, & it is an experience to be had! If you’re ever in the Vintage Park area, check out ‘The Chef’s Table’, you won’t be disappointed! It’s also a great “date night” restaurant! 😍😋🔥 My personal favorites were the lobster ravioli & the curry chicken but everything else was AMAZING! 10/10! I will be back!
We always enjoy our time at The Chef’s Table. Chef Paul is such a pleasure to talk to, warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive to his guests. His passion shows in every dish he creates, and the restaurant itself is beautiful. The delicious food, the flavorful drinks, and the exceptional customer service all come together to create an unforgettable experience. My husband and I often sit at the bar, and we always have a wonderful time. The bartenders are friendly, engaging, and make us feel right at home. Jessica, and the other amazing bartenders are always a joy to see. Jessica, takes great care of us, attentive, thoughtful, and always making sure we’re comfortable and have everything we need. You can tell she truly takes pride in her work. That pride and care, from Chef Paul to every member of the staff, is what makes The Chef’s Table so special. The people, the food, and the welcoming atmosphere keep us coming back again and again.
My 1st time visiting The Chef's Table and let me tell you, this is the place to go. I had an amazing meal and to top it off, had the pleasure of having Marco as a waiter. The food was delicious too say the least, but having him truly sealed the deal. I will return without question and upon entering the establishment, I'm looking for him right away. He was AMAZING!!!!
What a wonderful dinning experience! The food and service were above and beyond! Daniel was an amazing server and came with recommendations for food and wine. We are on business travel and would come back just to eat here! If you are looking for a unique dinning experience this is your spot!
Wow. The chef has a god given tongue. 🙌 Every. EVERY DISH WAS A RIDE. EVERY DRINK WAS AMAZING. We've been to perrys.. we been to Ruths.. been to many other fine dining restaurant... THERE IS A NEW BAR. The flavors of the chicken Florentine... I can't put into words.. but I'll attempt.. I took a bite.. and I immediately started punching the air because the flavors were taking me away from this planet earth.. then I let the bite take me away.. I was not here on earth anymore... And that was my fiancé's entree... I had myself the new Zealand lollipop lamb chops.. my fiance hates lamb.. she said she would eat the whole dish if it was hers.. We also ordered the octopus appetizer.. 7/5.. EVERYTHING WAS BEYOND OUR PAST EXPECTATIONS FOR FINE DINING.. THE DESSERTS WERE JUST AS GOOD. I WAS COMPLAINING IN MY HEAD.. BECAUSE THIS JOY RIDE WAS BECOMING SO GOOD.. I WAS MAD I HAVE TO GO HOME AND COOK MY OWN MEALS THAT WILL NEVER BE THIS LEVEL GOOD. Thank you lily for checking on us every now and then. And big Shout out to our waitress Tracy <3 Thank you for being very knowledgeable and kind. The Chef him self behind this gold platinum menu came to our table.. this is the kind of man that deserves every praise 👏 🙌 Such a kind man , blessed again by the almighty for his natural cooking talent.
Went here for a late lunch and had a wonderful experience from start to finish. The food was delicious. We had the red snapper and the kingklip fish along with a few sides. Everything was cooked well. But we truly appreciated our waiter, Joshua. He was outstanding and on point with the food recommendations. You definitely want to come here.
Amazing food! This is my first time going and I’ll be back. The charred octopus appetizer was excellent as well as the artichoke dip. Jane was our server and her customer service was excellent, she was so incredibly attentive, personable, and very helpful with information about each dish. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and I can’t wait to come back, especially to enjoy it when the weather is warmer and sit outside.
We visited The Chefs Table during Houston Restaurant Week for Sunday brunch. The restaurant was less than 20% full, which was surprising. However, the food lived up to the reviews online. We had the truffle tots, French toast, Schnitzel and waffles, and wellington. The tots were really good with a hint of herbs and parmesean. The French toast was simple but was delicious. The wellington was cooked to perfection and had the perfect balance. The highlight of the meal was the Schnitzel and waffles. This was probably one of the best we have ever had. The waffle was a traditional Belgian waffle with pearl sugar. The chicken was tender and crunchy, accompanied by bacon, a fried egg, and maple syrup. The $25 meal price was incredible value. Phoenix was a great server. The only miss for us was the cinnamon smoked old fashioned. While the presentation was nice, it simply tasted like a smoked well whiskey. The cinnamon didnt come through nor did any of the traditional balance of an old fashioned. We would 100% chose The Chefs Table for our next brunch in Houston.
Always an excellent dining experience! Chef Paul continues to create new dishes that are simply divine! The flavors are very unique and the food is always prepared perfectly. The staff are warm, inviting, friendly and professional! It's obvious they try to ensure your dining experience will be the best. There is a large variety of dishes- and every single one is delicious! The bar is well stocked and the wines are wonderful! If you've not tried this restaurant - at least good for happy hour and the bar menu!
The Chef's Table was an amazing experience from beginning to end. We had a last minute reservation on Christmas day to celebrate our anniversary. We were taken care of right away when we arrived. Did not feel rushed even though we where on their last hour. The crabcake was great and the octopus appetizer was amazing. I had the Kinglip, very good and tasty. The cinnamon smoked old fashioned very smooth and great flavor. Constantine was our waiter and he was amazing. Thank you 🫶
First of all, we want to say thank you to our amazing server, Jessica. She made our experience so positive and we’re likely to come back not just for the food but for the great service exhibited by her. Her recommendations were spot on. They have a ton of vegetarian options and we started with the Onion Bahji and the Sicily Flatbread. For entrees, we had Tofu Taco which was absolutely delightful and the Acorn Chili which were both veggie options and the Chicken Florentine. Everything tasted perfect! We didn’t know they closed at 9pm and was still chatting til about 9:15 but as we were leaving and Jessica heard someone has a birthday in our party, she told us to stay for a complimentary toffee pudding. What an absolute angel. Thank you so much for letting us have a wonderful experience!
Excellent food, excellent service. It is not often that I get to have a culinary experience where absolutely everything is just perfect. I ordered the Kingklip dish with a Greek salad. The salad was delicious with the right ingredients in the right proportions. As main course, I picked the Kingklip dish because I've never tried it before. It was exquisite, well presented and cooked to perfection. I ordered a passion fruit creme brûlée which was the perfect ending of an awesome lunch.
When you are a Top Master World Chef - you are a Top Master World Chef - just facts :) Brought a group of my friends, that wanted to try South African cuisines for the 1st time, and we picked the Culinary Journey (Take a Culinary Journey - a 6-Course Meal) which was an awesome introduction and experience for them. It is a subtle introduction to South African food without being too exotic and ensures that they fall in love with most of it on 1st impression. It was definitely a feast that was thoroughly enjoyed by all and it was definitely plenty of food - basically a South African buffet but served plate by plate. It is customized - meaning that it is not the same every day/week - but for example, we were there on 2025/03/01 and it was: South African style crab cakes, shrimp, chicken wrapped in bacon, Kingklip, Impala, Karoo Lamb & Sticky Toffee pudding as dessert - Yum! Personally I'm not a shellfish & pork person and the waitress mentioned to Chef who was gracious to substitute the crab, shrimp and bacon with South African inspired Stuffed Mushroom, Carrot Ginger Soup & Greek Salad - definitely all winners! They also have a wide & impressive selection of wine and drinks available. So yes I definitely recommend this if you want to try a little something of everything and/or if you have friends visiting trying South African food for the 1st time. Keep up the amazing work Chef Paul Friedman & Team!! Awesome to see South African ambassadors at the top of their game!!
We celebrated our wedding anniversary here last night, and it was absolutely perfect! The food was 10 out of 10 — every single dish was beautifully crafted and bursting with flavor. We chose the 6-course meal, and let me tell you, it’s a must! (You have to ask your waitress for it, but trust me, you will NOT be disappointed!) A huge shoutout to Chef Paul Freeman for his incredible talent — every plate was a masterpiece and truly unforgettable. And our amazing waitress Jessica made the entire experience even better with her kindness, attention to detail, and great recommendations. This was more than just dinner — it was an experience. We’ll definitely be back! ❤️✨
10/10 highly recommend. The customer service in this place was everything from start to finish. My waiter knew the menu from from front to back and gave us a run down on how the owner's history. The snapper was AMAZING, my partner had a steak and said it was perfect. They will defiantly see me again as a customer!
My husband and I dined here for a date night and I was thoroughly impressed with the service and food. Truly, everything we had was amazing and it felt like an explorative experience the way each plate was presented to us, thanks to Jessica. She was absolutely amazing and we were quite impressed with her service skills, she did the chef justice, from explaining the dishes, you could tell she really understood each concept well. We had the sticky pork belly, charred octopus (which I trusted Jessica’s judgement as I told her I don’t like octopus but she ensured I’ve never had it like this before, and she was right, I loved it), along with the beef Wellington, which was cooked to perfection, and sticky toffee cheesecake. I will be returning.
Our visit to the Chef's table was one of the best dining experiences we have enjoyed. The food was delectable (highly, highly recommend the Bobotie and Ostrich with tiger prawns!), cooked and seasoned to perfection. The service we received from our waitress, Ibet, was stellar. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and we enjoyed every one of her recommendations. We will definitely be coming back here again. You will not be disappointed!
I would like to first thank our server Madison for an outstanding service yesterday the manager came to our table and welcomed us and talked a little about the food and restaurant which me and my husband appreciate a lot! When we ordered Madison talked about our food and also make suggestions and all the food that we ordered is top notch. Everything is heavenly delicious and we will definitely come back to try the ostrich and some of the menu because we were so stuffed as we finished everything. We ordered Charred Octopus, Chef’s Metzo Ball Soup , Portuguese Beef Pendurada and Lollipop Chops. I would give 20 stars if I could! Wowwww this restaurant is a GEM. Thank yoy because we found just a perfect place to eat and celebrate my birthday ♥️ We will come back!!!!
We stopped in to eat at 2:45 p.m. on a Saturday and chose the Sampler Experience where we got to try several menu items, each one brought out fresh and piping hot. In order of delivery: 1) A delicious, cheesy, flavorful mussel atop a yummy bread, served with a special cheese-stuffed, South African pepper (best pepper I've ever eaten!) 2) Sausage link made with lamb, pork, and ??? with freshly ground coriander and other delicious and fresh spices 3) Bacon-wrapped shrimp and crab/lobster/kingclip "cake" 4) Kingclip fish with a yummy sauce (my description falls waaaayyyyy short of the deliciousness of this fish!) 5) Ostrich (medium rare, a first for us!) So tender and mildly smoky. 🤤 6) Lamb (medium rare) served atop four-cheese mashed potatoes 7) Dessert - Sticky Toffee Pudding ?Cake? (sooooo decadent!) We chose the South African Shiraz which was earthy, minerally, and on the drier side (my preference). We brought a full bottle home with us. So good! Kyle, our server, was awesome! He took excellent care of us and made sure to answer all of our questions (as this was our first time enjoying this culinary experience. Highly recommend this awesome restaurant. We will definitely be back!
Absolutely worth the visit. I chose this restaurant for my dad's 65th birthday dinner. He is super picky about food and restaurants. This guy refuses to go to many a restaurant. He loved this place. Not only was the food excellent and super flavorful, the service from the hostess and the our stellar server, Pablo, was more than we could have hoped for. He was very knowledgeable about the restaurant and history, which I had some experience with as the chef was previously with another popular South African restaurant. He also made great recommendations. My kiddos were also pleased and impressed with the dishes and service and it is hard to get the 3 of them to agree on much. Overall, great experience and would definitely recommend for any occasion.
I highly recommend a visit to The Chef’s Table…even if it’s a drive for you, it is 100% worth it!! We had the Vleis Patsei appetizer, and it was absolutely divine. We followed that up with Caesar salads, which were fantastic - the fresh-made croutons and parm crisp really took it the top! For our mains, I had the Chilean Sea Bass, and my husband had the Beef Wellington. We added sides of cheesy mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts for a meal that would knock your socks off!! My husband loved his Wellington, and the Sea Bass was out of this world. There are so many more things that I want to try here, but I’ll have a (very) hard time passing up the Sea Bass next time! Our server was Jane, and she is stellar! She made some great recommendations, and explained the origins of the Chef and the food he has created. She took great care of us and made sure that we loved everything we had and kept our glasses full - oh yeah, their private brand cab and sauvignon blanc were also superb. Make sure to give this gem of a place a visit! Ask for Jane and your experience will be a lovely one. I can’t imagine one not liking anything that they have here. Also, I forgot to mention, the ambiance is perfect. We also loved the modern music with a twist! Kudos to the chef; this place is a dream come true!
My husband chose to dine here to celebrate our Anniversary. Upon entering, they immediately asked if we were celebrating anything and we told them. Multiple employees came over to our table to say Happy Anniversary. Our server brought us a special drink from the bar to celebrate. We ordered the garlic Naan, short ribs, Brussel sprouts, Portuguese Chicken Pendurada, and rice. The food and service was really good.
Dining with Chef Paul at The Chef’s Table in the Vintage is nothing short of a culinary celebration. Over time, I’ve had the pleasure of exploring the entire menu; a journey that has never once disappointed. Every dish Chef Paul creates is a vibrant masterpiece: delightfully delicious on the palate and beautifully composed for the eyes, each plate revealing a thoughtful harmony of flavor, color, and creativity. But the magic doesn’t stop with the food. Chef Paul and his exceptional staff cultivate an atmosphere that elevates the entire experience. Their warmth, professionalism, and passion transform each visit into something memorable and genuinely special. It’s the kind of place where you feel both welcomed and wowed, where every detail reflects care, artistry, and heart. Simply put, The Chef’s Table is a gem, and Chef Paul is the brilliant force behind it. An unforgettable dining experience every single time. Mychael Khim
What an experience! From the time we entered the restaurant to the time we left it was a 5 star experience. The infused water was so yummy so I didn't get anything else to drink but my husband got an old fashioned (he said it didn't taste like and old fashioned but it was boozy so he didn't complain). We started with the mussels and they were huge! The garlic tomato sauce was really yummy and different. I got the yellow Curry dish and it was good. I think it could have used a little more mango chutney overall 4.5/5. My husband got the meat plate (cannot remember the name) he loved everything but really loved the lamb chop. I pulled the "wife tax" and ate some of his beef kabob and chicken. I will be getting the beef kabob on our return here. It was so good! The sticky toffee pudding was to die for. We got one to go! Now this place ain't cheap but it was worth the splurge.
Every dish we ordered was unique and delicious. I am confident that the many other dishes available would also be wonderful and satisfying. What I noticed is that Chelsea, our server, was able to speak thoroughly about the different dishes, how they were prepared and what to expect if we ordered something. The bartender, Ryan, was also able to provide much information about the foods on the menu - and did so in a personable way. This indicates a well-educated and well-trained staff, a detail that is often ignored at a restaurant. That said, I am not surprised that the food was terrific - I would imagine that the effort that went into training the dining room staff also appears in the kitchen as well. These qualities are what makes this restaurant a cut above other places. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the night was capped off with a lovely serenade by Sarah, one of the talented wait-staff persons. We will be back again and highly recommend others to give this restaurant a try.
Ambiance: Trendy, upscale restaurant located in Vintage Park perfect for a date night, celebratory event, business dinner, or unique dining experience. The booth tables are large & extremely intimate in the sense that you feel you are alone with your party. Waitstaff is quick and extremely knowledgeable about any item on the menu. I loved the flavored water - a refreshing surprise from generic tap water! We split a bottle of Riesling. The Caesar salad was a good portion. I highly recommend the Diane Sisters brioche filet medallions as a main course. This is a spot I would take anyone I am trying to impress be it by their menu, ambiance, or service. The menu is diverse and filled with unique flavors and twists. Clean bathrooms. Parking available on the street or parking lots in Vintage Park. Walking distance to other shops and spots to peruse before or after your meal. It is obvious the head chef is extremely talented and creative. I am already looking forward to my next visit!
Came for HRW and had an absolutely wonderful experience! Every detail was delightful, the service was impeccable, the food was bursting with flavor, the drinks were expertly crafted, and the overall ambiance made the evening truly special. We’ll definitely be back and can’t wait to enjoy it all over again!
Everything was impeccably delicious. We started with the ceviche, and even the tortillas and chips had this perfectly crunchy, flavorful bite that set the tone for the meal. I ordered the steak with the dry spice option, and oh my — I was completely taken aback. The beef was tender, and the layers of spices created such a burst of flavor that left me in awe. We also tried the lobster, and it was just as outstanding — rich, fresh, and prepared beautifully. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a first date or any special occasion. It’s one of the few spots in Houston that truly knows how to elevate flavor and create an unforgettable dining experience.
We had a wonderful experience at Chef’s Table. The food was absolutely delicious — every dish was beautifully presented and perfectly served. You can truly see the attention to detail in everything they do. What made the evening even more special was the staff. Every single person was incredibly kind, professional, and attentive to even the smallest details. Their warmth and dedication really elevated the entire experience. I will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!
Dined in at this exceptional restaurant on a Sunday evening. Everything was phenomenal during our dining experience - the service, the food, and the ambiance. Right off the bat, the restaurant was dimly lit with nice mood lighting. After being seated at our table, we were served watermelon and strawberry infused water which was really unique! The chef’s cuisine is highly inspired by South African flavors which is evident throughout each dish! Every dish was seasoned incredibly and we thoroughly enjoyed every item ordered. Our server was very knowledgeable and took the time to enlighten us about the different ingredients used that are native to South Africa such as the kingklip and ostrich - super interesting to learn about! Portion sizes here are huge especially for a fine dining restaurant - you will leave here feeling properly satiated. The desserts were the cherry on top. The sticky toffee and passion fruit crème brûlée were both delicious and the perfect amount of sweetness. The restaurant is located in the Vintage Park shopping village - a cute area to walk around after a fantastic meal. Plenty of free parking available. Could not recommend this restaurant more! We had such an outstanding and unique culinary experience!
We went to celebrate a friend’s birthday at The Chef’s Table. It was our first time there, and The Chef’s Table didn’t disappoint (as you can tell from the ratings). Very clean, elegant and intimate setting. The owner was super cool (we even got to take a picture with him). The service was excellent. I had the Salmon and my wife had Lamb. Very tasty and presentable meals! The drinks were next level! I had the old fashioned, it was so good. The prices aren’t cheap, but the food and experience were worth it. We will be back next time we visit Houston.
This place scores high on almost every metric I could think of. The food was amazing, balanced and unique. Loved the sautéed calamari. It was rich and flavorful, and not too salty or carb heavy. The salmon was soft, tender, seasoned and had a very good flavor with the bacon crisps and arugula. The drinks were also amazing. There was nothing left on the plates! We ate everything they gave us. No leftovers. The desert was top notch. Seriously a great fusion experience with good quality food. Would definitely come again.
I stopped by for a late afternoon lunch on the patio and had a great first-time experience. The ambiance strikes a nice balance—sleek and modern, yet still relaxed and casual. The patio is a good size, though I do wish the fans had been on to help cool things down a bit. They were offering cocktail hour, which applies to both the patio and bar area—a nice bonus. I had the Paloma and my friend went with the Lemon Drop Martini—both were refreshing and well-made. We shared a few dishes: the peri peri calamari, kingklip tacos, and the mixed fry basket. Everything was delicious. The calamari was crispy with great seasoning, and the kingklip tacos were the highlight—perfectly cooked fish that was light, flavorful, and satisfying. The fry basket was a fun addition, but the standout were the sweet potato fries. I’d honestly come back just for a full basket of those alone! We topped off lunch with sticky toffee pudding, incredible! Service was impeccable—friendly and attentive without being overbearing. It wasn’t too busy when we visited, but I’d like to think that level of service is standard. Overall, it was a great visit and a spot I’d absolutely return to. The menu has a lot of tempting options, and I’m looking forward to trying more on my next trip!
First time here and the food was amazing!!! Everything on the menu looked great! Ended up getting the Lolipops with the lobster Mac& cheese! Amazing. Food is wonderfully portioned, you will leave stuffed! Also Lindsay (manager) and Jane (server) were SPECTACULAR! The service here is absolutely amazing! I will be back!
The Chef’s Table is our go-to place to dine during special occasions and whenever friends and family visit. The food is consistently excellent, and so is the service. Everyone had a smile on their faces. Today, we tried their Houston Restaurant Week menu, and it did not disappoint us. Highly recommended. Good news for those fanatics of Beef Wellington: The Chef’s Table now serves it on Sundays only. We haven’t tried it yet, but we definitely will. Great dining experience again today! Their early bird special is quality food for the price.
My wife and I recently dined here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Constantin was our server. He was hospitable and displayed excellent knowledge and explanations of the menu items. A true professional, we will definitely request him as our server on our next visit. Every food item we ordered was well executed by Chef Paul, from presentation to taste. The ostrich steak was definitely the most unique order of our dining experience there. It was cooked to perfection and well seasoned and tender. I would definitely order again. From ambience, to service and the execution of each menu item ordered, it was a great experience!
We had such a wonderful experience at Chef’s Table! From start to finish, everything was exceptional. The food was absolutely amazing — beautifully presented, full of flavor, and clearly made with great attention to detail. Every dish felt thoughtfully crafted and memorable. Britney, our server, truly elevated the experience. She was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm. Her recommendations were spot on, and she made us feel so welcome throughout the evening. And whatever you do — make sure you try the sticky toffee pudding. It was hands down one of the best desserts we’ve ever had. Perfectly balanced, rich, and unforgettable. We’ll definitely be back!
Came here for a date night with my husband and everything was amazing from the moment we walked in till the moment we left !!! Service was amazing and everyone came and checked on us multiple times to ensure we were enjoying our experience. Our waiter had great recommendations and we felt like every dish was made to perfection. We tried the calamari, the ribeye and the portigues beef sooooo good !!! Some of the best lobster mac and cheese we've had and the toffee cake pudding was the best way to end the night. Will definitely be coming back again !!!!!!!!
Jason was the catalyst to our dinner and our experience, which was amazing. The experience started with our server and I felt completely comfortable before we even started with our water. I applaud this establishment for the service first, the food was phenomenal but I left with the best impression because of Jason. I’ve ate at many of Houston’s finest restaurants but Chefs Table will be on the top of my list. Thank you
I came here tonight with my new bride because she had never been here before or had food with a South African flare. She had the lamb and I had the cape point crossing, which is pretty much what the old Cape Town skillet used to be. We also had calamari and sweet potato fries, and of course, finished off with sticky toffee pudding. Everything was fantastic, and she was thoroughly impressed. We’ll be back!
We went here for a birthday and it was nice! The food was on point. We ordered the red snapper and the stuffed chicken breast. It was amazing. The sides were all good. Brussels sprouts were delicious. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. Will coming here again soon!
I had the pleasure of coming here to celebrate my birthday. I wanted to try the beef wellington and it was the best experience. Everything was wonderful and it tasted so good. Waiter, Phoenix, was so nice and informative and came around just the right amount of times. He suggested great options for us which only made the meal that much better. I cant wait to come back again!
We celebrated my mom’s birthday at the Chef’s Table and had a wonderful experience. The food was outstanding—beautifully prepared and full of flavor. Our server, Jane, was absolutely amazing: attentive, kind, and made the celebration feel extra special. The staff was welcoming, and the ambience was relaxed yet elegant, making it perfect for an afternoon celebration. Highly recommend!
We came to The Chef’s Table to celebrate our 6-year anniversary and chose the tasting menu—what an incredible experience from start to finish! Daniel, our sommelier, was knowledgeable and personable, perfectly pairing each course with wines that elevated the entire meal. Rafael, our waiter, was attentive, warm, and made us feel truly celebrated. Every dish was creative, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service and atmosphere made for such a memorable night. Highly recommend for any special occasion or if you’re just in the mood to treat yourself!
Service was so great. It was our first time and our waiter answered all.of our questions honestly and gave us suggestions. The food would have gotten 5, but the Mac and cheese could have been more cheesy and the veggies has this sauce that was ok. Maybe get them with out it. However the lamb, clamp chowder, lobster pasta, 5 cheese potatoes were sooo delicious. This is definitely a place to go in Houston. OH the spiced budding for desert was everything. The dessert is the birthday portion size not the paid for dessert.
The food here was absolutely amazing! Our server Daniel took great care of us as well, and was an absolute delight to talk to. He even ran after us after we had left to return an item one of my friends had accidentally left behind. Very fancy atmosphere, and once again, the food was delicious, well made, and absolutely worth the price you pay for it. 11/10 would go again. 🙏🏾
Ok so I have to say, I wanted to try something new and I had not expected to walk away wondering how to get my husband to Houston just to come here. I sat in the cocktail area with Jessica and had a fabulous time. The vibes of the restaurant are great. Everything was so so so good. But I have to give the second biggest shout out to the dip. Probably one of the BEST dips I have ever had. Spinach and artichoke? Yes please. Add in some goat cheese, the G.O.A.T. of all cheeses? Yes please. I could have made a meal out of that alone. Every course and every drink was a home run. Truly no notes. BIGGEST shout out goes to Jessica. She was attentive and helpful because I had a lot of questions, but she also gave me space as I was on a solo date with myself reading my new novel and catching up on emails and texts after a busy day. She absolutely nailed the balance. Her support team and managers were also fantastic and stepped in seamlessly when needed, which as someone who worked in fine dining for nearly a decade, makes the difference between a good experience and a truly great one. I travel to Houston a few times a year for work and I will be back 100%. Now the only question is whether I try the dining room next time or grab a seat at the bar again.
I had an amazing lunch today. I told my server Brittany what I was feeling like having let her do the rest. She did not disappoint. The food was flavorful without being overpowering. Even the strawberry on the prosecco. It added such a delicious layer of aroma to get me started. I had the lamb with brussel sprouts to eat. The sweetness of the brussel sprouts combined well with the savory of the lamb. Just a touch of the mint sauce brought elevated the combined flavor so well. The chocolate cake is difficult to describe. Cloud of cocoa maybe? It was rich without feeling sugary sweet. I get overwhelmed easily and I loved that these flavors all were so good and took me to new limits without overwhelming me. I will definitely be leaving it to the professional Brittany to surprise me again in the near future.
We tried the 6-course tasting menu (Che’s Dinner) at Chef’s Table for our 20th anniversary. It was a beautiful experience overall. The food was amazing, loved all the surprises one dish at a time! Daniel took the time to tell a story and history behind each dish which made the experience even more memorable.
If this used to be Peli Peli, i've been here before (over a decade ago) but I barely remember the food. Overall, the food was pretty good! The customer service was great. Carrot ginger soup - 5/5 It was served very warm and not on it's way to cold. The flavor was great! Beef skewers - 2.5/5 Prepared medium. Cooked just right but it needed more flavor and/or salt. Kingklip - 5/5 This isn't served with a side of carbs. Regardless the white fish was perfectly cooked and the sauce was flavorful. Lobster mac and cheese - 5/5 Very cheesy and good flavor. sticky toffee pudding - 5/5 Delicious!! Not overly sweet. I was already full and didn't finish it
Trying out half a dozen restaurants this week to pick which to hold a 60th birthday. This place has an early bird 3 course menu that is quite nice. The gumbo isnt typical but quite nice. The kingclip was well done, the chicken was okay. The toffee pudding was nice but nothing spectacular. Wonderful prompt polite service. May come back but it doesnt have a private dining room or spectacular views, so wont cut the mustard for a special dinner.
We visited for my wife's birthday. By reservation, we were seated quickly and felt well cared for by Jane from the moment we sat down. The crab cake appetizer was amazing! The entree - Beef Wellington- with sides of spinach, Lobster Mac & Cheese, and herb and garlic mushrooms, was great! Incredibly tender beef. We likely will not wait for a celebration for our next visit.
In Houston to have hip replacement surgery tomorrow morning, so wanted to have a good meal in case it was my last. 🤣. Brittany did a wonderful job and the brunch was fantastic. My wife had the beef Wellington and I had the crab cake eggs Benedict with garlic truffle fries. Both were superb and the sticky toffee pudding with African coffee was over the top. Hopefully I will survive the surgery and my wife and I can do it again. If I don’t, I’m sure she’ll find someone else to pick up the tab. 😀😇. Gallows humor.
This is where you go, when want to try something new, something different or special. Amazing food and great service. I tried a lot of different things here, the octopus appetizer, the whole jerk snapper, ostrich and impala meat and the toffee pudding are all fantastic and different. Remember, you can ask for some of the main dishes as appetizers if you want to try a lot of different things. It’s pricey, so only special occasions for me. Chef Paul, great job!
We had the most incredible dining experience at The Chef’s Table, a true South African, inspired culinary journey from start to finish. Every dish was beautifully prepared, uniquely flavorful, and absolutely delicious. You can feel the passion and heritage behind the cuisine in every bite. Our server, Constantine, was exceptional. Even though the specific bottle of wine we originally requested wasn’t available, he went above and beyond to recommend something even better and it perfectly complemented the meal. His thoughtful attention, warm personality, and engaging conversation elevated the entire experience. He struck the perfect balance of professional and personable, making the evening feel special and memorable. If I had one tiny suggestion, it would be for staff to wear name tags. Constantine was so fantastic that I wanted to mention him by name in my compliments, I just had to ask again because I didn’t want to get it wrong! 😊 If you’re looking for an elegant, elevated, and truly unforgettable dining experience with exquisite South African flavors, The Chef’s Table is an absolute must. We can’t wait to return!
We had the best time celebrating our 5th anniversary at the Chef’s Table this evening! From the moment we arrived, they went above and beyond to help us celebrate: the hostesses said, “happy anniversary!” right when we walked in, and as soon as we sat down, Kyle, our waiter, said happy anniversary as well and brought us two complimentary drinks. They clearly read the note we left on our reservation about this being a special occasion for us. We’ve celebrated our anniversary all over the world (just got back from Fiji last week), so we know what a good time looks like. This place is a GREAT time and will make you feel like your event is important and celebrated. Literally within 5 minutes, we knew we would have a wonderful evening. The food was also outstanding; we had the bobotie and fried calamari starters, the ostrich steak entree with a lobster mac and cheese side, the sticky toffee pudding dessert, and a few cocktails and coffees. All were delicious. We also were especially happy to meet Chef Paul, the restaurant’s very cool and laid back owner. He’s running an awesome establishment here, and we will 100% be back. Fellow South Africans: Chef Paul has elevated our cuisine while still keeping those homey touches we miss. Another bonus: Kyle, our server, was excellent: super knowledgeable and friendly. Loved the whole evening.
We tried The Chef Table for the first last night on my birthday (Christmas Eve) and it was amazing! Everything we ordered was delicious! I had the Backyard Braii... so ,many different flavors in one plate, each distinct but they all blend together. It completely satisfied my palate! My husband had a the Filet Mignon with one of their homemade sauce... blue cheese, bacon and raspberry... another WOW! Meat was cooked perfectly and the sauce and the wine was the perfect complement. Even the stuffed mushrooms, which might sound ordinary and common... they were made in such a delicious way! We were so full, but I was thankful for the birthday dessert treat, a wonderful way to end the meal especially paired with a black decaf coffee. I wanted to mention "Linda". She provided excellent service and took care of us! Thank you, Chef Paul Friedman, for introducing and sharing your culinary journey with us. Merry Christmas. Highly Recommend! -Lili and Greg
We celebrated our first anniversary here and loved it. The food was interesting and not your usual fare, which was a delight and like an experience on its own. We also devoured the food, as every bit was so good (entree, side, cocktail, wine, dessert). Our server was Tracy* and she was thoughtful, kind, and gave the best recommendations. She even shared a playlist with us because we liked it! 10/10, highly recommend!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Beautiful restaurant, awesome service from hostess to waiter! The food, OMG, EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS!! We had the Six course journey with wine pairing and it was definitely a journey! A huge thank you to Chelsey who answered all of my questions with patience and kindness!
Had a really lovely experience here yesterday evening. The food was excellent and the atmosphere of the place was very nice and welcoming. What made the visit especially memorable was our waitress, Jessica. She was incredibly kind and attentive, and since it was our first time at the restaurant, she took the time to explain the dishes and offer great recommendations. Thanks to her suggestion, I tried ostrich for the first time, which I probably wouldn’t have ordered otherwise — and it turned out to be delicious. Jessica truly made the experience special with her warmth and knowledge of the menu. We really enjoyed the food and the overall experience. Definitely a place worth visiting! Unfortunately I didn’t take pictures as I was busy enjoying the food.
Last night my husband had the pleasure of eating here for dinner while in town. The ambience was nice and the service provided by Ms. Tracy was pure excellence. We had the charred octopus, mussels, ribeye topped with crab and lobster, lobster Mac & cheese and the sticky toffee pudding. Every plate that was set before us did not disappoint. We will definitely return!!
Being a chef myself for over thirty years im really selective on where I dine.this being my 3rd visit to the Chefs Table was absolutely outstanding! The attention to detail was impeccable. The food no matter how many components it had was served hot and above the service time standard. The staff were engaging and knowledgeable about the menu and food sourcing. Dining room was impeccably clean and well staffed. The EC/ owner was inviting and engaging with all of his customers wheneverhe was free from his duties. I was pretty hard on them and they delivered beyond my expectations. I highly recommend the culinary journey.!
We were VERY excited to experience our first Michelin Star restaurant on our visit (we are from Dallas). From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with smiles and such a positive vibe! The ambiance was chic, yet cozy. One of the highlights of our evening was our server, Lilly! She was knowledgeable, so joyful, and suggested the perfect dishes for our taste! The steak tartar was beautiful! We were blown away by the portion and flavor. My husband chose Beef Wellington that was perfectly prepared. I was pleased with my sea bass, although I may opt for something more adventurous next time. We strongly suggest the acorn squash! This was an unforgettable date night! Thank you to the team at The Chefs Table!!
Wow!! The food here was phenomenal. We got the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer. It was the best I had. The surf and turf was so good. The service here was excellent. Everyone was very friendly and the waitress was very attentive to us. The ambience was very elegant and modern. We look forward to coming back here.
Ambiente agradable
We had the most amazing time at The Chefs Table! It was highly recommended on a few facebook groups I am in and I am so glad I took the recommendation. I wanted a nice, unique experience to celebrate my husband’s 30th birthday. Our server was very knowledgeable and made great recommendations. Everything from the dip appetizer to the chicken Florentine was simply incredible. The best meal he has ever had, so thank you for a making his birthday one he will never forget!
me and my dad have been hearing a lot about this restaurant from our family friends and decided to give it a try. best decision ever. our server tracy was so attentive, answered all of our questions and gave amazing suggestions. the food was amazing, just the right portions. the drinks are also amazing i had the strawberry lemon grass cosmo(10/10 would recommend) my dad got the old fashion which was also amazing. for food, i had the lobster ravioli. so filling and so amazing. my dad had the ostrich which was also amazing. overall the experience was amazing and i will definitely be coming back.
We made a reservation for a quiet booth on a Friday night. It turned out to be a beautiful evening so we asked for outside seating when we arrived and they switched us with no issues. We got there at 5 so we were able to try the happy hour specials. The margaritas were our favorite. Our server Jane was excellent and explained all the dishes perfectly. Husband had the ostrich and prawns-loved it. I had chicken florentine- awesome. The wine choice was extensive and the bottle we had was very nice. Tried a few sides and no complaints. Creme brulee and cappuccino were perfect. Can't wait to go back!
Visiting family for graduation. Our large party ordered a range of starters. Calamari, humus, stuffed peppers,. Our entrees were great, The ostrich steak was excellent, Snapper was amazing, lobster Ravioli 🦞 all received 5 🌟 Service was good and attentive . Dessert were awesome. #justhavingfun
It was my husband's birthday, so after scouring the internet for reviews, I decided to bring him to The Chef's Table. Since the restaurant is over 50 miles from where we live, and we wanted to make it back home before dark, we opted to come for a late lunch around 2 pm. The inside of the restaurant had a nice ambiance. We were seated at a booth. We were served two glasses of infused water, and we ordered two glasses of Anura Petit Verdot wine. The wine was a nicely balanced red, not too sweet or overly dry, in my opinion. We ordered the Vleis Pastei and TCT Wings as appetizers. The Vleis Pastei was bursting with flavor; our server plated the dish for us to ensure that we experienced all the flavors in the same bite. TCT Wings were tasty, and although the menu lists a spicy orange glaze as an ingredient, the wings were not spicy (which was great because we don't care for spicy food). For the main course, my husband ordered the short stack with a side of roasted medley potatoes, and I ordered the Osso Bucco. Both of these dishes were phenomenal. The short stack, which is bone-in short ribs, was tender and savory. The Osso Bucco, which is veal shank, was a hearty meal that was akin to a soul-comforting stew with potatoes and carrots. My husband and I had to take the majority of our main course home because we were pretty full from the appetizers, and we had to save room for dessert. For dessert, we ordered the Sticky Toffee Cheesecake, and since it was my husband's birthday, the restaurant gave him a complimentary miniature Sticky Toffee Pudding. Both desserts were wonderful. My husband preferred the Sticky Toffee Pudding because he felt the cheesecake was too rich. I liked both desserts, but I must admit that I was not upset that my husband didn't want much of the cheesecake because that left more for me, and I ended up taking it home and enjoying it the next day. Overall, we had a good experience. Our server was attentive. All the food and beverages that we had were phenomenal. My husband and I have dietary restrictions, where we do not eat pork, shellfish, or any fish that does not have fins and scales, so I was pleased to see several menu offerings that we could consume, including vegan options that we plan to try in the future. The only disappointments that we had were (1) discovering that the meat could not be cooked to the customer's desire and (2) the occasional condescending behavior from our server. My husband initially wanted a ribeye, but the server told us in a rather snobbish manner that the chef does not modify per the customer request because he knows how best to prepare the dishes. While I can understand that the chef wants to retain full control of how his dishes are prepared, since we're spending our money at the restaurant, we expected to be able to request that our meat be cooked to our liking, where there aren't large amounts of visible redness and pinkness. Also, there were several rather distasteful comments made by the server that I disregarded and the attitude she gave off at times was as if she believed we could not afford to be dining there. When we tasted the wine sample that she brought, and we asked for the bottle, she said she would bring us two glasses first and see how that goes. We had already planned to take any leftover wine home with us, but our server did what she thought was best instead of giving us what we asked for. When we asked about appetizers, she told us about the dip and said it would give us a bigger portion, as if we had asked for that or were there to fill up on appetizers. When we ordered two appetizers and two rather pricey main courses, she asked both times if we wanted both, again, as if we could not afford what we were asking for. Since I didn't want to ruin our experience, I held my peace, and although I wished we had gotten one of the younger servers that we observed to have better table-side manner, we still left a 22% tip because the food was good and her attentiveness was commendable. We plan to return, but we'll seek a different server.
The ostrich is a must try if you like meat. To me, it was like a cross between a nice steak and duck. The meat had the texture of a steak but the tenderness and moistness of a duck. The hummus was meh. The octopus from the seas around Portugal was delicious. Overall, a great restaurant and I would be happy to come back. I didn't give it five stars because the service was slow and the server was forgetful, although the dining room wasn't very busy when we were there.
Enjoyed their Houston Restaurant Week menu. Stand outs were the KingKilp fish and the sticky toffee dessert! The curry chicken is sweet, so if you like your curry on the sweeter side, it’s right up your alley. Portions are big; we ordered two 3 three course HRW meals so that we could try more things and had leftovers.Pablo our server was great!
Nice place for date night. We went for Valentine’s Day and were looking forward to happy hour but were told because it’s Valentine’s Day they don’t do happy hour. Atmosphere was great and fancy. Drinks were very good. Edit: we have became regulars here now mainly because the staff specially at the bar area are so awesome. Chef Paul is also great. They also make the best cucumber martinis here. Yum.
Dinner for my birthday. We had a great night and the food was really good. The chef knows what he is doing! Just a little sad because was my birthday. (They asked if was a special occasion and we said yes! It is my birthday!) Maybe we are to spoiled in the Houston area but I never left a place without a little pastries on the house with a candle 🥲
Es bien
Pros: interesting menu, well balanced flavorful dishes, fantastic service, cozy and private atmosphere Cons: a bit expensive Each booth has lots of privacy, so this is a great place for a quite, private, romantic dinner or other special occasion. No reservations necessary! The menu is rather interesting, ranging from standard fare such as filet mignon to the truly unusual such as ostrich steak. The flavors on every dish are well balanced and complement each other; each dish is a flavor adventure. Portion sizes for savory food are normal (which I prefer), while desserts are American-sized. While I think the scrumptious food and excellent service warrant the high price, my friends did not: I would recommend this place for special occasions only. And what a special occasion it will be 🤤!
I been here many times. The food is always great but the service wasn’t that great. I will say this as kindly as I can but I felt the waiter keep waiting on other people more than she wanted to wait on us.. pack our food and forgot to bring it back until I said something and after that disappeared . We still left here a nice tip. But we must do better on attending to all customers not just the white ones.
This is definitely a mixed review. We came in for restaurant month and drove 2 hours round trip. The service was subpar. We had to wait for ages to get menus. Once menus were given, we had zero guidance or recommendations and while the service was not impolite, it wasn't organized or thoughtful. The menus were never removed from our table. We weren't asked to order drinks, I had to request a knife for my steak. I had a much higher expectation of service based on the quality of the restaurant. The food we had throughout the night was good, with the highlights being the curry chicken and the sticky toffee cake. While the food was good, I expected more overall.
My partner and I came in for a date night, hoping to enjoy a relaxing evening together. This was our second visit—we had enjoyed the food previously, which is why we decided to return. Sadly, this experience left us deeply uncomfortable. Our server, Lea (hopefully this is correct), was aggressive from the start. She reached over us without warning, grabbed things abruptly, and slammed items down with an intensity that felt completely unnecessary. Her tone throughout the evening was sharp and cold. What bothered us most was how she treated her coworker. When another team member kindly helped bring out our food, Lea spoke to her in a way that was not just rude, but genuinely humiliating. It was upsetting to witness, and it created a tense, awkward atmosphere for everyone around. I actually felt bad leaving without saying something supportive to that poor woman—I wish I had. We spent over $150 just to feel uncomfortable for an hour. While the food was good, it’s not worth enduring service that leaves you feeling uneasy and sad for others. We won’t be returning. I don’t know what Lea might be going through, but I sincerely hope things get better for her. Everyone has hard days—but no one should be treated the way we saw that night.
