Jimmy Hays Steakhouse is truly exceptional. From the moment we walked in, the staff made my family feel completely at home. Our server was outstanding—attentive, patient, and genuinely kind. They struck that perfect balance of professionalism and warmth, making sure we were comfortable without ever feeling rushed. What really impressed me was how great they were with kids. They went out of their way to make my little ones feel included and relaxed, which made the entire experience even more enjoyable. The atmosphere is inviting, the service is top‑tier, and the food speaks for itself—everything was cooked perfectly and served with care. Jimmy Hays is the kind of place that turns a simple dinner into a memorable night. An amazing experience all around. Starting at the Valet and coat check all they through the Maitre D and The Server definitely coming back they handle my big sometimes loud family with a baby perfectly A must.
Place is great! The only thing, Appetizers - There is no big variety for people that not eating sea food. But if you want really good hight quality steak, And good sides- this place is highly recommend!!! Service is great!
Went for the 1st time, wonderful experience! The food ,the service ,our waiter Andres, even getting a chance to speak with Jimmy Hays, and the connection of the restaurant of my childhood-McClusky's seen on menu ,and explained the family connection! It was a wonderful experience from the minute we walked in ! Quality of the food and genuineness.
I just want to say that everything was amazing. I went yesterday with my family for my grandma’s 73rd birthday and she said it was the BEST birthday she’s had so far. The hospitality is top tier..as soon as we walked in the door, everyone was so nice, warm, and were all smiles. Food came quickly, food was hot. Literally nothing to complain about. This is now her favorite steak house. I want to thank the staff for making her day so special. 10/10 I do highly recommend
This is the true definition of high class. From the moment you walk in, the staff welcomes you like royalty—it instantly makes you feel like you’ve stepped somewhere divine. The atmosphere is elegant, yet warm and inviting, the kind of place that makes every visit feel special. The menu is absolutely amazing. Honestly, the steak is incredible, but it’s not even the best part—the appetizers truly steal the show. The lobster bisque tastes like gold, it’s rich and flavorful, the mac and cheese is perfectly creamy, and the creamed spinach is the ultimate indulgence. Every bite is a delight, and it’s clear the kitchen puts love into every dish. If you’re looking for a place that makes you feel elevated, where every meal feels like an event, Jimmy Hays Steakhouse is it.
What a fabulous steak house. From walking in the door to leaving after dinner it was truly a welcoming experience. The atmosphere was warm, cozy and relaxing. It was our first time to Jimmy Hays. We ordered the Rib Eye for two and the Shrimp Hays, side of spinach for 3 to share. Both dinners were perfectly cooked, served hot and the service was outstanding by the waiter. I love that when we finished our dinner, the bus was attentive and cleared our dishes immediately without making us feel rushed. Thank you for a wonderful evening with my son and his gf.
Excellent service!!! Excellent staffing!!!!! Chris was an awesome hostess, and Mr. Higgins was an amazing waiter. The crab and corn chowder was delicious and the lamb chops were cooked to perfection. My sister had the chicken salad with pork chops and she was truly amazed. The entire staffing was professional and courteous, I'm so happy I came here for dinner...thank you.
Can never go wrong at Jimmy Hays, No matter what steak you choose you cannot go wrong , every steak they make is absolutely amazing . The Gorgonzola bread is by far the best G bread out there. Side dishes are delicious as well, I recommend the sautéed spinach. They have valet parking right when you pull up to the front Door. Staff and service is very professional, this is a high end steak house. 10/10 recommend
Exactly what I expected from a steakhouse. To start we had the Caesar salad and lobster bisque. The price point on the starters were a bit steep but expected. We ordered the porterhouse for two which was obviously the highlight. We like our steak medium rare and they cooked it perfectly. Excited to come back.
A Real Steak House as everyone like ! Service was perfect ! Food was just cooked as requested (Medallions of Filet Mignon Au Poivre and ribeye of the day). Side dishes: so good, we had to finish (Brussel Sprouts and Garlic Mashed Potatoes). Good selection of wine as well. Let's go again !
Pretty nice place, was very impressed with how they greeted me, manager was very nice to me greeted me and said good night, and he gave me a big booth for just myself which made me feel valued, and I’m younger so it rarely happens when I go to high end places. The server was a little shy but he was very professional throughout my visit. Unfortunately they didn’t have many nonalcoholic options which I wasn’t thrilled with, however everything went smooth and the pacing of my food was perfect but they did rush me on dessert which I understood since it was almost 10:00 PM at the time. The calamari was pretty good overall, my steak was pretty good but a little rough, and my dessert was good, just could do without the nuts or whatever they put on it. A little pricy 160$ per person after tip without any drinks at all for all courses and a side of creamed spinach, but they did respect me and remained professional which I was pleased with, since I drove almost an hour to get to this place. Will come back again in future with family one day.
Excellent Brooklyn steak spot—Jimmy Hays delivers on quality and vibe! Food was strong: dry-aged ribeye perfectly charred, tender, and flavorful with great crust, lobster bisque rich and creamy, creamed spinach velvety, and truffle mac indulgent. Steaks cooked exactly to order. Service was attentive and professional—great recommendations and timing. Atmosphere is classy and cozy—dim lighting, warm wood, upscale without being stuffy—ideal for date night or celebrations, though it can get buzzy when full. Solid choice for a special steak dinner!
I thought that this was supposed to be one of the best long island steakhouses based on previous reviews, however I think it was okay. The bacon appetizer was okay not as good as Peter Lugers, the octopus appetizer was okay, the mashed potatoes tasted instant, the lobster bisque had zero lobster pieces, the chopped salad was soaked. The steaks were soft and of quality, the affogato dessert was amazing. The service was excellent. Would I go again? No. Just my opinion, from a guy that eats at every grade steakhouse from outback to Smith and Wollenskys. I give this place a 7.
I have to admit I have lived in Oceanside my whole entire life and I'm sad I haven't been to jimmy hays earlier. The steak was delicious. I got the special for the night which was like a porterhouse type steak with like a lobster bisque type topping and sauce on the sides of it. I enjoyed it so much and literally was licking the plate after. I also had the privilege of having the grilled octopus, fried zucchini, onion rings, mashed potatoes, and creamed spinach. Everything was amazing. This restaurants only flaw is that we (myself + 3 other) came at around 6ish reservation and all and it really wasn't even that busy but we had another full table (6+) right on top of us right by the entrance. I don't know why we wouldn't be separated. Nevertheless I loved the food and will be back.
We are def Steak lovers and have eaten everywhere, (Ruth Chris, Capital grille, Uncle jacks, Bryant and cooper, Pete Lugers, Mortons, STK, Benjamins steakhouse, NY Yankees steak house, Wolfgang, BLT, Quality Meats, Christos, to name a few) So when we pass this steak house , week day or weekend, it is always packed and figured it must be good. SO on our anniversary we made a reservation and came in. First impression , was that I was going to leave upon entering (Glad I didn't but I was very close). When entering they were so engulfed with their regulars in conversation they hadn't even noticed the fact that two people showed up for dinner. The welcoming was not warm for what i'm used to receiving at the well known higher end steak houses. I felt very turned off, after say 15 mins they realized we were there after I said is anyone here to take in the reservations? We proceeded to wait another 10-15 minutes to be seated, which is fine. They had live music by the bar area, not that you can hear what anyone is saying next to you the music made the wait less awful. I wouldn't personally put music right by the entrance where people are trying to converse but hey to each their own. ON to the saviour of our 4 star review. THE STEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, It melted in your mouth. I felt like they had the butcher shop fresh in the back and the meat was freshly cut. It was the saviour of this visit and our waiter that I feel horrible that I forgot his name, but will update this review with his name, because he was amazing. Once seated in a cute more quiet area with cute booths, it went smooth from there. The food was absolutely great , that as I write this, my mouth is salivating. Thought the personal attention I am use to receiving wasnt there in initial phase of dinner, once seated it was a great evening. I will def return due to the waiter and food!
The place is fine and the front of house staff is nice, but 1. The they didn't refill my empty water glass the whole night, even when paying. They didn't miss asking if I wanted another cocktail, 2. My dad asked for the chop steak, which is easy for him to eat, and the waiter claimed they couldn't make it. My dad said it's just hamburger meat, grind a filet. The waiter walked into the kitchen, came back and said no. Why have it on the menu? If it were up to me we all would have walked out. My dad is too nice. He didn't like the stroganoff, ordered as a 2nd choice, as it tasted too vinegary. The staff could be a little more accommodating given the $1,000+ bills. I won't be back unless I have to be. Why go out of the way?
Jimmy Hays Steak house is supposed to be the Peter Luger of Long beach but this place not even close it. This was my first time at this restaurant for my buddy’s birthday. Service was slow, bacon was not good at all and jumbo shrimps were very small compared to other steak houses. Rest of the food steak and side dishes were fine. Overall, I enjoyed the food but I am not sure if I would try this place again.
This is a double review. Most importantly, don’t go on a Friday or Saturday night. I believe the less busy the greater the attention. So last night 12/19, was my birthday dinner. I ordered the 14oz ribeye. Without exaggerating it was at least 1/3 fat. I’m a steak eater so I know a good ribeye has nice fat marbling, but for $95 I cut off $30 worth. When I showed the waiter he blew it off by saying “well, that’s a ribeye”. I ordered it medium because of our last experience. Now I said a double review because we were there 2 weeks prior as invited guests. My wife and I shared the bone in ribeye for 2. I like medium rare and my wife likes medium. The waiter said he could do both in one steak. I never heard of this being done. Of course it came rare and medium rare. So since we were guests we tried to enjoy it. Back to last night. So I ordered mine medium thinking it’ll hopefully come medium rare, which it did. My wife had a shrimp dish which she enjoyed. Now here’s why I gave 2 stars for service. We wanted to enjoy our drinks before ordering. I expressed this to the matre’d as well as the waiter. He told us he’d take the order but wouldn’t put it in until we were ready. So we said ok. But of course before being 1/2 way thru with our drinks they delivered our appetizers and 15 minutes after that our entres. As usual, the bread came during our drinks and the crumbs were all over the table throughout the meal. As a New Yorker and a steak eater, I’ve been to the best steak houses. I NEVER had this experience where I had to OVER ORDER my steak in hopes of it coming the way I like it. Wherever I went, if I ordered medium rare it came medium rare. Lastly, the valet, is nuts. As we pulled up, we witnessed the valet parking a car in reverse going so fast it made us nervous. We expressed our concern and his reassurance was to say that he parks them all the same. To summarize, service was better on a weekday but the steak was equally bad on a Friday. So I always use the 3 strike rule. 2 strikes for the restaurant and 1 for the valet equals 3. Obviously, sorry but we won’t be back.
A local friend brought me to Jimmy Hays in Long Beach to show off what was supposed to be a top-tier dining experience. While the food was good, the service—specifically from John the bartender—left a lasting negative impression and overshadowed the evening. When I asked if he could make me a mocktail, he scoffed, first offered seltzer water then said, “I could pour you some juice in a wine glass.” It was rude, dismissive, and completely unnecessary. What made it worse was watching him warmly engage with other customers, offering them the evening’s specials and treating them with the kind of courtesy we were denied. For the price point and reputation of this restaurant, the service should reflect professionalism and respect. The customer may not always be right, but they should always feel welcome. Sadly, that wasn’t the case.
Food was terrible. Brussels sprouts were barely cooked and the steak was over cooked and had no taste, when we asked for medium rare. Waste of $300, I will never go back. Everything seemed rushed.
Booked Christmas Eve after MANY visits to this restaurant. Lobster bisque soup is good the younger woman seating people …. Not so good.. Anytime she seats us it seems we looked up and down with disgust than sat in the worst seat in the place.. The rude manners from the younger woman in the front is unprofessional and made my date feel uncomfortable on many occasions. We will NT be returning based on our past experiences with this person.
Had a 7pm reservation and didn't sit until 8:50pm. The only reason we sat was because we decided to sit at the bar. Sitting with four people eating at the bar was not enjoyable.Food was good but very over priced. Definitely not worth the wait or the price. If you have another choice go somewhere else.
