I’ve never had a rose cider before…. DELISH! Lovely ambience, beautiful glassware, yummy food, warm staff. Went for the raclette dinner and left with a case of cider. 🥹🥰 (You get 10% off 6 bottles, and the prices were ultra reasonable… perfect for keeping at home to pull out for dinner parties.) The passion for great, distinct cider here is obvious. We tried six different ciders and a cider based cocktail… a wide variety of flavors and styles… all excellent. Plus South Hill has a gorgeous view. Now off to drink another glass in front of a cozy fire… *chefs kiss*
We went for the yummy food and the view of the comet. It's a gorgeous location, and the fire pits and flower gardens are great. The food is good but the portions are small and the prices are high.
The staff was friendly and beside that honest. I had drop a 100 dollar bill and she was asking so I had to proof it was mine. I told her is it a large bill and it’s not a old it’s mine. Thank you. Beside that this place it’s for sunset lovers. Park and order your food and drinks and watch the sunset. Love it !!! Beautiful!!
To start, the cider selection is pretty large, and the couple we tried were good. They offered dessert cider as well as cider pommeau which I had never heard of. The best part of the trip was the property though. It was absolutely stunning. I highly recommend checking out the area even if you don't enjoy cider. The snacks were pretty pricey in my opinion, but overall the experience was very good.
Loved the cider flights! Loved the workers. Love the views and scenery. But the most incredible thing was their root beer and ginger beer. They are the best in the whole world. They dont ship out, they only sell in house (and in the area), they are just so special!!!
South Hill Cider has the perfect blend of good drinks, great people, and amazing scenery. The cider flights are fantastic, and the live music nights are always such a good time. It’s one of those places that captures everything you love about Ithaca — community, creativity, and care in every detail.
Breathtaking views; exquisite cider, and incredibly warm and friendly service from the people! In my spare time I have been studying Finger Lakes region wine for 6 years; after tasting South Hill Cider’s String Theory, Prelude and Full Blossom, I’m going to do the same with cider. Not only was the set up visually gorgeous from the landscape down to the details of the string lights and the fire pits and the local art inside, the cider was outstanding. South Hill exposed me to the craft of cider, and much like wine we can learn much about place through tasting cider and appreciating the thoughtfulness and myriad decisions that go into their production. I brought a bottle home to NYC to share with my friends. And pro tip: check out Stay on Orchard Hill on HipCamp to camp on a platform raised canvas tent right on the gorgeous property with unbelievable views. We’ll be back here!
This was one of the best evenings/nights we have had in a long time. Not only was the place beautiful, the food was fantastic, the drinks excellent, the band was straight groovy, AND they let us camp on site in our RV!! They are dog friendly and offer other drinks besides cider. This really was one of the best nights out of our week long road trip. Would definitely go back.
This is a wonderful place to stop after spending time in buttermilk Falls State Park. If you park at the upper entrance of buttermilk is very near there. Great help on selecting cider that we really enjoyed. Food was also very good. Atmosphere and overlook of the outside patio even better!
As a suggestion from a winery, we drove here for a tasting. The exterior is a bit industrial, but the inside warm and inviting. With both indoor and outdoors seating options, patrons can buy glasses or do a tasting of cider. Our favorite was the Rosè. However, we purchased the Pommeau, a delicious after dinner like sherry. Frankie was attentive and helpful as we self guided through your flight. Highly recommended.
Fantastic cider and food with impressively fast and friendly service! Spectrum of delicious hard ciders to choose from, ranging from dry to sweet, something for every palate. Cider pulled pork sandwich is amazing, a must-try food item. Cherry shrub is nice. Bread pudding for dessert is quite good, especially the whipped cream and cherry sauce!
Cider was delicious. Food not bad (not great either). Outdoor seating was pleasant, but way too many bees. I'm not for wiping out pollinators, but it made the dining experience less than ideal.
It's a nice place to get great local ciders. They have live music during the summer. The Golden Hour music series is a favorite. Plenty of open space, picnic tables with a nice view of the country side.
The bands are great. We have seen several. The food seems pricy for what you get. Getting the food is a bit of a hassle. First you order at the main bar or the outside bar. No pagers or cell phone numbers to tell you your order is ready. Instead, there is a small electronic sign over the kitchen window that shows your order number when ready. The problem is seeing the red numbers when the sun is going down - not easy unless you are seated near the kitchen.
South Hill cider is fine if you like very dry ciders. barely any semi-sweet ones much less than sweet. if you want a flight they are preset. and much more expensive than other places. food isn't offered at lunch but we didn't know that till we got there. the menu for dinner sounded fantastic but we didn't stay long enough. The building is both rustic yet modernish, very cool. plenty of outdoor seating and sun sails overhead all over the place and very pretty.
My wife and I were taken to South Hill Cider just outside of Ithaca, NY by my stepdaughter and her husband. It is a cidery, orchard, and venue which also has a small food menu as well. We came to taste and buy ciders. Ciders like other beverages have those who like them and those who don't. This is why flights (tasting of several) can be helpful. The 4 of us shared 3 flights. I like that each flight comes with a slip of paper which identifies and describes each cider in the flight. You pay a premium for this experience. Each flight of 4 samples costs as much as a full bottle of the most expensive cider in the flight. The total volume of a flight is about as much as if you ordered one glass of cider. The 3 flights available are the "House Flight", "Premium Flight", and "Dessert Flight", progressively more expensive. From the "House Flight" we preferred the two semi-dry ciders "Old Time" and "Rośe". "Prelude" and "Baldwin" didn't resonate with us. My bias is dry ciders have become a cliché much as IPA to beers. I can enjoy one from time to time, but there are many more flavor characteristics which I think are too frequently lost in them. Clearly, my tastes differ from much of the market both sell to. From the "Premium Flight" which are the only ones with a specific year notation, "Chisel Keeved 2023" was the only one we really liked. Unfortunately, it is a bit of a tease putting it on the flight because it's not for sale by the bottle at this time. It will be available to their premium club members in about 60 days, and the general public some time after that. We are here now having traveled by car about 2,000 miles to get here and it does not sit well with to pay for a sample of something I can't purchase now. The least they could do is make an advisement of that on the menu board and on the slip of paper which accompanies the flight. Our son in law lived the "Goldwin 2023". "Golden Hour 2021" and "Perry 2022" didn't do it for us. The latter was particularly disappointing as it had no pear flavor in it at all. From the "Dessert Flight" we enjoyed "Ice Cider" and "Classic Pommeau". We did not care for the "Royal Ice Cider" or "Chisel Jersey Pommeau". The latter, I describe as "too medicinal". I am not a brandy aficionado, so don't let my reaction deter you from trying them if you like brandies. We purchase bottles of all of the ones we liked othe than the one they won't sell later in the year. We will enjoy them after we return home. I recommend trying this place out and seeing what you like. Enjoy.
Atmosphere is very nice with outdoor seating and campfires. However, we came in expecting apple cider and got hard ‘cider’ with no cider. We paid a fortune for one ‘cider’ tasting and got four glasses of disgusting wine. We also got food which we had to wait 40 mins for as a man in a metal trailer made us a sandwich that should’ve taken max 15 minutes. If you are expecting apple cider or a quick bite, this is not the place.
Very nice venue. I really would like to see a place like this survive but the ownership must not have any business sense. I would definitely eat before coming there ever again. A thin toasted banquette with one slice of turkey and cheese for $16? I could hear other patrons complaining and laughing. $10-12 for an ipa? $4 for bottled water? On top of $30 each for live music. The sound system there needs to be replaced as you can’t even hear the band. My daughter has seen Donna many times this year and she said the sound there was horrendous. I don’t believe the ABV of the ciders either based on the taste. You’re going to get one time customers operating that way and not repeats. Live music should be paid for by the venue. IPA should be no more than $6. Cider should be $5 glass when it’s only $18 bottle. They make these adjustments on live music, alcohol pricing and serve an actual meal and the place will be packed and significantly increase revenue.
Save your money and don’t come here! Nearly $30 for a charcuterie board so small and uninspired that it borders on insulting. Their cider was even more questionable. I struggled to detect any alcohol and found myself wondering whether it would hold up under independent testing. A good cidery makes you feel excited to support local business. This place makes you feel scammed and leaves a bad taste in your mouth—- a taste that I would not want washed down with their sad apple juice, I mean cider.
