While I didn't think much of the restaurant from the outside, I was quick to realize the comfortable atmosphere upon walking in. I ordered fresh rolls (similar to Vietnamese spring rolls), and chicken satay, both of which were delicious and came with savory peanut sauce. The spicy basil chicken a la carte dish I ordered was also very flavorful. I would definitely come again, as this place rivals some other local Asian restaurants.
This restaurant has a lot of different types of Asian foods including Japanese, Chinese, and of course Thai! I absolutely love this restaurant. It is not only delicious, but it also has a great interior design that makes it seem really fancy but it still keeps the prices of regular scale restaurants. Here you can get a delicious meal and Thai iced tea for 10-15$. I think that’s pretty great for eating out at a restaurant. The location of it is a bit bizarre which makes it kinda hard to get to. If your driving it’s easier to go through downtown rather than the highway. Either way, though, it’s worth it!
Very delicious and accommodating for allergies. It’s a chill/casual/homey vibe inside the restaurant and great for take out
Always pleased with the quality of the food and the "service with a smile" received at Tamarind. Perhaps a claim to being the best Thai food in Ithaca is somewhat subjective--but you will find plenty of people who hold Tamarind up as an exemplar of the region. The restaurant itself is quite small and quaint, but it has a more upscale atmosphere than some place like Taste of Thai, whose food I don't personally care for either. The Tamarind staff really makes a difference with their attitude and practice of making you feel like a valued customer.
I eat here often. The food is always good. Many great appetizers with the meat rolls a big favorite. The duck dishes, eggplant, and pad thai are also excellent. It's not fancy but the great food, staff, and prices keep me coming back
I've been driving by Tamarind for 3 years now and finally stopped in about a month ago for lunch. I meant to write this review then, but the food still haunts my daydreams. I had the Spring rolls and the Pad Thai (beef, spicy). I am a creature of habit and pretty much order these exact dishes at every Thai restaurant I visit, but these were hands down the best versions I've experienced. The house salad came out first and the dressing was a warm peanut dressing that was melt in your mouth, lick the bowl if no one is watching good. The spring rolls came with two sauces, and if I had more room in my gut I would have ordered two sets of spring rolls just so I could finish both sauces. Oh my yum. The Beef Pad Thai was perfect. Not dry, not overly spicy, the rich flavors of lime, fish sauce, chili, and peanut were stars of the show. If I lived in Ithaca, I would eat here once a week. 100%. Adopt me.
This Thai restaurant was amazing!!!! Honestly, the exterior had me ready to reconsider but once we walked inside, it had a very warm feeling to it. We had fresh shrimp rolls for apps and they were great!! For the entrée we had orange chicken and green chicken curry. Both were amazing!! You’ll love this place.
I normally never write reviews on Google or anywhere else, but I made myself write this because I'm convinced this place never misses. I've ordered their Pad Thai, their yellow curry, spring rolls, and gyoza over the course of a few orders and it was all incredibly delicious. Definitely my fave Thai takeout in Ithaca and anywhere.
Best Duck Curry I've Ever Had! Pad Thai and Pad See Ew were excellent also. We've been talking about what other dishes we want to try when we go back. Service was prompt and very friendly, but dine-in was not available when we visited.
Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. We took out four dishes and were not expecting much after some major disappointments in a variety of Ithaca restaurants. The food was good! The only issue was too much oil in some of the dishes. Overall, good food.
Ventured off the Commons to find some good Thai food, and we were NOT disappointed! It was delicious - strongly recommend the green curry and the spicy basil. Excellent service, amazing food. If we’re ever back in Ithaca, it’ll be the first place we go.
We were there during a very busy Cornell graduation weekend. Kudos to our waitress for holding the fort down and making sure everyone was attended to. Food was definitely worth the wait - highly recommend the Tom Kha soup and spicy duck fried rice( real thai spicy so keep that in mind while ordering).
Tamarind is delicious, I have been ordering from here for almost 10 years now. The food is always good and I have almost never been let down by my go to dishes. The Pad Thai and Pad See Ew (also the chicken Satay Skewers are great). The service is super quick and the staff are very friendly.
Exceptional in every sense. Both the service and the food are, without a doubt, the best and most authentic available in Ithaca. Don't let the exterior of the place fool you, the interior is warmly decorated and comfortable. Nunu makes one feel as though they are dining in her own personal home, and although they were quite busy, it was as though we were the only ones there. A must-do while here in lovely and eclectic Ithaca. P.S. Try the duck in whatever dish you wish. It's moist, crispy, and out of this world!!
Been wanting to try the food from here for a while and tonight since I’m at a hotel I finally ordered. I got the spring rolls and chicken pad Thai. It was outstanding!! The stand out for me was definitely the spring rolls, I took my first bite with that amazing sauce and I got chills it was SO delicious!!! I will definitely order from here again and look forward to trying some different items.
enthusiastically confirming that the staff are outstanding! I was with a large party (7) on Friday night of Cornell's graduation weekend (so all the restaurants within Ithaca vicinity were fully saturated with hungry patrons) and we were looking to celebrate my friend's birthday. we were seated just before the kitchen was scheduled to close and our orders were taken swiftly, but we never felt rushed to leave. I was particularly floored that they gave us dessert on the house for my friend!
It's a small place if you don't care much about ambience. The shop looks not so colorful from outside or inside. Only a few tables inside too. However, the food is awesome and authentic. Service is also great, food served with a smile humbleness and care. Certainly worth trying
Small cozy homey place with outstanding staff and service. The food is divine. Doesn't matter what you order, it will be both watering good. Prices are equal to the market. And the food is worth it. Spice level is good. From mild to hot. Any way you want it. Clean. Bathrooms also clean.
I've had a 7 year relationship with this restaurant and in that time have never been disappointed. It is hands-down the best Thai restaurant in Ithaca. (All are good, but this is different). The quality of their ingredients and nuances of flavor are a step above the rest. My go-to dish is Yellow Curry w/ Chicken, but I also love their Pad See Ew, and all their curries. Add a Thai Iced Tea (duh), a side of Roti, & spring rolls & you're good to go. Nunu, the woman who is the face of the business, is an absolute legend. (Nunu, I'm sorry if I'm spelling your name wrong.) Famously kind, caring, attentive; a delightful human being. She is a beautiful queen and deserves all of the accolades. I'm moving away from Ithaca soon, and I don't know what I will do without her and Tamarind. Can't say enough good things. We love you Nunu, and Tamarind, thank you for all the years of gorgeous comfort food and kind service! **Important - Call in your order! Do not place online. They lose money when placed online. And they deserve your money <3!**
Don't let the looks from the outside deceive you! We weren't sure what to think when we pulled up in the parking lot, but I'm glad we gave it a try. The food was great and it didn't take long for them to prepare everything. My only complaint was that the meat rolls were a little soggy, but that's probably my fault for waiting until I got back to the hotel to start eating.
I was in Ithaca with my wife and two daughters that wanted Thai food. We were directed to this small place. The atmosphere is very nice, the service was outstanding and warm. Every thing we ordered hit its mark to preffection. I will be coming back and hope it will keep the same level for years.
I went with a large group of friends for dinner. It was excellent food at reasonable prices
This place is great! I can't believe I haven't been coming here more. A different Thai place in Ithaca messed up my meal so bad I had to reorder and I chose Tamarind. They made my night, great food. The contrast was crazy, this place is definitely worth trying out. Slightly smaller portion then where I have been going but the overall quality is great making it well worth it. This was the best meal I've had in a while.
One of my favorite places to eat when I'm in Ithaca. The staff is extremely kind and the food is always great. I end up doing takeout from here many times when in town.
My family and my friend's family had an incredible lunch at Tamarind, and we couldn't have been more satisfied with our experience. The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring that we felt welcomed and comfortable throughout our meal. The menu boasted a wide array of traditional Thai dishes, each more tantalizing than the last. The fresh spring rolls were a hit with everyone, providing a light and tasty start to our meal. Overall, Tamarind provided an exceptional dining experience with its delectable food, warm service, and inviting atmosphere.
Traveling through Ithaca from Toronto and looking for something tasty and authentic and but casual to break up the road-trip food rut. The reviews convinced us to try it and admittedly from the outside and surroundings we had doubts but the food was EXCELLENT. Once inside, we learned that they had recently re-opened to dine-in and were short on help, but the owner was very kind and did a great job as we could see they were very busy with take out and did their best for the dine-in guests. We had the spicy basil (beef) and yellow curry (chicken) - both tender, juicy with generous and fresh veggies and perfect flavour/spice and the rice was perfect. This would be a regular spot for sure if we were local and we did notice the take out and dine-in guests were repeat clients. Glad we didn't judge this book by the cover!!
I just dined here for the first time, this was also my first experience having Thai cuisine. I have to say, I am blown away by the taste, quality and service I received at this restaurant. I wish I didn't live over an hour away, or this would be a staple for me! Excellent!!
Great Thai food and friendly wait staff. The food presentation is very good. Shumai is like homemade. Their wonton is one of our favorites.
Had a great meal extremely tasty. The host is a native vietnamese who made it very pleasant for us. All the food was very well made and extremely tasty.
Cozy, fast and delicious. First time visiting and we were not disappointed. The staff was very active and fast.
My wife and I had dinner at Tamarind on 8/2/2024. We were warmly greeted when we arrived, and our friendly waitress answered our questions clearly and took good care of us. We both ordered the Thai Spicy Noodles, a highly customizable dish. There are several protein options, and the "heat" (level of spice) can be selected on a scale of 1 to 5. I ordered level 4, which (as expected) was very hot but not unbearable. The noodles were absolutely delicious! We will definitely be returning to this place. Highly recommended!
I am very fond of this restaurant. They have great soups and desserts and excellently priced lunch specials. The food is always very attractively presented. The service is always veey pleasant and they often have jazz playing. I wish their portion sizes were a bit larger as that sometimes makes me go for Taste of Thai Express instead. However, Tamarind has more variety and genuinely good desserts. The Taro balls in coconut milk and the black beans in tapioca pudding are great. I also loved their garlic pepper fish.
No Complaints! We were in the mood for Thai food and this place hit all the spots for us. The calming interior is much better looking than the exterior.
It's a great Thai spot in Ithaca, not quite as good as Taste of Thai, but decent. Make sure to request the spice tray, and ask specifically for their Prik Nam Pla (fish sauce with chilies), because they won't provide it unless you ask, because apparently people thought it was too spicy, lol
Super service with genuine appreciation of dinners. Decor is lovely and the serving plates are beautiful. The food was very delicious and beautifully serviced.
Tamarind is such a lovely spot. I went in early today with a friend but I usually take out. However! I will dine in more often bc they have a gorgeous little restaurant. The food? It’s always ten out of ten. And they have their own delivery service which is helpful. Service is always good too.
1. Food: Whole table was happy with the food and their portions. I’ll recommend the Tom Yum soup to share. 2. People: Our waiter was kind and times was quiet, but never unclear. 3. Timing: Food was out quickly even when there were other parties present. 4. Price: The 5 of us all ate for about $100 and the food was worth it annnd we had two appetizers with our individual meals which at most other places would be more expensive. 5. Facility: Though small (20-40 people) a nicely finished dinning area with nice bathrooms. More cultural decor would bring it up, but their plate sets were wonderful and they had real flower center piecees.
Tamarind has the best mango sticky rice in all of Ithaca, hands-down. The coconut sauce is always packed with a sweet and salty flavor, the mango is always fresh. I'm never disappointed coming here.
We were in the mood for Thai this afternoon and came here based on reviews. I am SO glad we did. The Tom Kha Gai soup (chicken) was so good we had a pot made up to bring home to NJ. The duck pad Thai has huge chunks of duck. The Thai tea was the perfect sweet balance to the dishes. Highly recommend.
One of the best Thai places EVER!!! The seating is very home style with a comfortable feel to it. The service was quick too. Really rich flavors with the perfect amount of spice. Reasonable prices too. I highly recommend this place after a long hike or really any time of day for a real treat!
Excellent food! Don't let the condition of the outside fool you. This restaurant is a gem! Tables are small, but comfortable atmosphere. The vegetables and proteins were delicately prepared and presented so nicely. We especially loved the complex but perfectly prepared curries. They don't use msg, are accommodating for different dietary needs, and you can order your spicy dish to be prepared on a spicy scale of 1-5.
Food was excellent. The atmosphere was great! Unfortunately the restaurant is suffering with staffing issues. There was only one server in the whole restaurant and service is constrained. Despite its shortcomings, we had a good time there and we absolutely loved the food. Might order as takeout.
The location and outdoor signpost (“exotic Thai and asiatic eatery”) seem sketch, but the place itself is pretty cozy. If you’ve got absolute no spice tolerance like me, the curry with the minimum spice level is still kind of spicy. (It’s good, just be prepared to drink a lot of water and bring tissues!)
Great food: check. Quick service: check. Clean restaurant: check. Reasonably priced: check. Relaxing, quiet, casual atmosphere: check. Great service... not this time. This is the second time we had an issue with service. The first time, many months back, we made a reservation, and while they acknowledged it, they didn't honor it. So we just left. Tonight we decided to give it another try. Our waitress wasn't outright mean, but cold and somewhat rude at points. She was very nice with other customers, whom she seemed to know from previous visits. We asked another young lady, I think a hostess, about her and told her what we were experiencing. She apologized several times for it. So that is the one star that is missing. However, it certainly wasn't bad enough to stop us from going back. The food alone was worth it. I still recommend the restaurant.
This place can have really slow service when it is packed, but the food is worth the wait. We loved the spring rolls and chive cakes. I really enjoyed the Chicken Pad Prik Khing as well as the Veggie Green Curry! The Pad Thai unfortunately is a bit too sweet though. The Thai Ice Tea and Taro balls in coconut milk are also really good!
I wouldn't drive out of my way for this place. But we were in town and they had GF options. So we went for it.
You know I really like the food here, but waiting for your take out 40 minutes after it was supposed to be ready and standing in a line that wraps all the way around the building to pick it up is ridiculous. They really need to make their pick up more efficient. The picture is taken from being the building and there are two more people behind me.
Wonderful food in a cute little space, and our server worked her TAIL off (the 3 stars for service are no reflection on her at all) … but for crying out loud, HIRE SOMEONE! Our server was doing *everything* herself, and desperately needed another set of hands. Things were getting backed up, just because she was doing the work of two people. It’s not fair to put her in that position, and it really harms the experience in what could be a great restaurant. Our quick early dinner turned into a full evening…
This place in consistently good! Ok the building isn't much to look at, but they have some of the best soups (and take-out) in town - hands down. Tom Kha has great flavor and the proper broth/fat balance....def ask them to jack up the heat a little bit if you like spice. They are a mom & pop style place and do their own delivery etc - def beats door dash, so call it in (the entire staff is super nice).
Stopped here after visiting Ithaca with my teens, on our way back home, 3 hours away. We placed an order over the phone for pickup. When we arrived, I was told that the card machine hadn't been working all day so I'd need to come back with cash. Drove 3 mins to a nearby gas station then back with the $50. The food was quite greasy. We ate 1/2 of it. Overall disappointed. It seemed they were really busy though, so maybe just overwhelmed. 3.5 stars
Enjoyed the Green Curry. Some of the best Ive had. Nice and spicy (they asked how spicy I wanted it!) Small restaurant. Worth the stop!!
Amazing food. We stopped by for lunch with a large group and hostess was able to accommodate all of us. We ordered a variety of dishes both vegan and non-vegetarian and all of them came out pretty well. If you are drinking then don’t miss Singha, lager beer from Thailand. Service is quite fast and hospitality is top notch.
I really want to leave a 5-star review. I love Tamarind, we get curry from here once a month for the past 2 years. I haven't left a review until now, but after today, i felt it was necessary. THE GUY RUNNING THE REGISTER IN CHARGE OF TAKEOUT IS HORRIBLE!! Our food has always been great. When we get a table, the service is great. But every single time i order takeout, it takes longer to get my food than it would if i got a table and waited for it to be cooked. I waited 20 minutes today to pick up my take-out. The second i walked in, i saw my food already in a bag, waiting to be picked up. There was only one order ahead of me, but the guy who works there took 15 minutes to prepare 2 coffees(or teas, either way, should have taken 30 seconds max) to go. I had to eventually pull a young waitress aside and ask if i could pay her, and 30 seconds later I was in the car with my food. I say this because i love your restaurant and want your business to do better: FIRE that guy. I was so close to walking out and getting dinner elsewhere, even though i know how amazing your food is, because of him.
After seeing all the online reviews, we decided to do takeout when visiting the area. The food was good, we got the Thai spicy noodles, cashew chicken, chicken satay, chive dumpling and vegetarian spring rolls. I have to say though I was disappointed in the service a bit. After all these items they gave us such a hard time on sauce, like the lady would only give us 1, with all that food!
We visited this Thai restaurant on a Sunday evening and thoroughly enjoyed the food—it was flavorful, well-prepared, and left us very satisfied. However, we were quite surprised and disappointed to find a 20% gratuity automatically added to our bill for a party of four adults and three young children (all under the age of five). This policy was not indicated on the menu or communicated to us in advance. While we always appreciate good service and are happy to tip generously—especially when dining with children—being required to pay a fixed gratuity of 20% without prior notice felt presumptive. When we inquired, the server explained that the charge was due to her being the only one working and "it is a lot of work". While we understand the challenges of staffing, the rationale did not feel entirely appropriate. We hope the restaurant considers adding clearer communication around its gratuity policy to avoid confusion in the future.
Stay and dine in for your meal. Atmosphere is good and typically service is good as well. Recently ordered take out and couldn’t believe how poor the food tasted and was prepared. Salmon was overcooked and dry, papaya salad was flavorless and accompanied by two huge chunks of old lettuce. Orange chicken was tough to chew, the slice of orange was The butt of the orange and the Padew with pork was grey, very little sauce except for what dribbled to the bottom of the container. The sliced pork was dry, rough and barely edible. We were not late to pick up the order and it was a surprisingly poor $100 meal. We called to discuss and basically was told that is what happens when you do take out. There was no customer satisfaction concern nor a small refund or credit. Eat in don’t take out.
This location resells contaminated food to compensate for their own mistakes. If they “mishear” your order they will not replace it with the correct dish just insist that IF they cannot resell it, (for me, that was because of spice level) you must foot the cost of righting their wrong and pay MORE. I have spent too much money here and refuse to go back. I would like to also note that it was pad Thai that they incorrectly gave me and I’m ALLERGIC to peanuts in such quantity. I didn’t make them aware of this but I shouldn’t have had to. they didn’t even offer me a refund, and expected me to give them more money for the dish I ordered, ludicrous. And customer service has been failing to satisfy as of late.
We ordered delivery so can't speak to the dine-in experience... but our food was mediocre (I've had much better in Ithaca) and 45 minutes later than the estimate. People were nice though, and this is based on just one experience.
The food was good but that’s where the 2 stars go. I have never experienced such attitude before from takeout. I ordered the food on the phone and was early so when I walked up to a narrow door to pay first, ready to be waiting. When I got there, the door was blocked and two credit card receipts were taped on the table. Thinking it’s probably someone who picked up, signed and left, I didn’t think too much of it. The lady took my $62+ cash payment. Since I was early, I went back to the car to wait. Later when I walked back up to the narrow entrance, one of the same receipts was still at the table where the entrance door was blocked so I told her “you should probably take this”, and her response was, “Nobody cares, only people who don’t want to tip cares.” As I’m ready to leave, I see the other signed credit card receipt on the floor. I guess they don’t care about people’s privacy. They should be upfront with their mandatory takeout gratuity instead of taping two sample receipts with tips and signed credit slip on the table. Their tactic to guilt trip people into takeout tipping is terrible. I was so upset with her nasty comment that I’m not going back again.
Not too pleased with the way Tamarind fills its orders. Twice now I’ve ordered food for pickup (once online, once via phone) and both times, one dish in the order was messed up. First time I ordered pineapple fried rice and got regular fried rice. The second time I ordered it again and this time I got the pineapple fried rice but with chicken when I had ordered it with *tofu*. Very disappointing and I will not be ordering food from Tamarind again.
This is such a pity — this restaurant had the potential to be so great but certain things transpired which cannot be overlooked. First off, we had over an hour of wait for our food after being seated. Had to track down the waitress 20 minutes in just to place the order. Once the food arrived, our orange chicken was dried out like it had been nuked in the microwave for 5 mins. Chewy and stubborn and simply would t break down. The beef in the drunken noodle was similar as well. Neither were edible and had to spit out the non chewable chunks. Told the staff nicely about this in private and nothing was offered for the bad experience. Besides this issue, the food was quite flavorful and easily would’ve been 5 stars if they did t royally screw it up.
I went there with friends on a Friday night. The quality of the food was very mediocre. My food was unimpressive but my friend said his eggplants smelt bad and that the pork was hard like a wallet. On top of that, there was no seasoning at all. I would have been ok with the food if there was any service. The food took forever. There was only one waitress in the entire restaurant. We sat and waited for 15 minueted just to order the food. When I walked to the register (again, after waiting for around 10 minutes) and told her we need to be somewhere soon and asked for the check, she said no because she was too busy. Still, we all left 20 percent tip because my friend suggested that the waitress was trying her best, but I would not go back there or recommend this place to anyone.
It’s truly unfortunate that this establishment won’t get a higher rating. Their food is delicious and truly authentic. The issue is the wait time. I recently ordered take out, showed up significantly later than the listed time (because I know they take forever) and the food still wasn’t ready. They have one person taking phone and in person orders and that same person is serving all of the dine-in customers. It would be understandable if this was a rare occurrence, but these extended wait times are a consistent thing. It would be okay if the hostess was up front about how long the food will take, but she gives no indication for how long the wait time will be. I’ve had this happen to me and witnessed it with other customers before as well. It’s amazing food don’t get me wrong, but if you order take out, do yourself a favor and give them at least 20-30 mins after the ready time given. If it’s a holiday, ensure you give at least 45 mins-1hr. I ordered Valentine’s Day at 7:00, showed up at 8:30 and the food still wasn’t ready. If you dine-in, still expect longer than average wait times. I honestly hope they change these practices for the benefit of their customers.
Was excited to try this place one Saturday evening because of all the great reviews. It was dark, dingy and no dine-in. Ordered take out of 4 different dishes which all looked the same and tasted like the meat had spoiled. Everything waaaay overpriced. Worst Thai I ever had. Not going back, ever.
We decided try Tamarind for lunch today as we’ve heard a lot of good things about them. Most of or order was good, but one item was incorrect. Their Kai Qua says it comes with chicken and squid but when you order online you have to pick a protein and there is no chicken and squid option. So, we picked chicken since it already comes with chicken and squid thinking this was an extra protein. Well we picked up the order and it only had chicken in it. We called to ask if the item could be remade to have chicken and squid as stated on their menu and were told that we picked chicken, so we only get chicken which to me means there’s no way to actually order the dish as specified on their menu. We asked why then their menu was worded the way that it is and were told that they don’t have control over the menu as it’s not theirs. When I asked what she meant since their website links directly to this online ordering site I was told that they don’t have a website (they totally do) and that these third-party sites like the one they directly link you to aren’t their responsibility. When I asked to speak to a manager I was given a long talk about buying shoes or t-shirts and how you don’t complain to the brand if there’s an issue with the product you bought from a store which is true, however it has literally nothing to do with this situation as the online ordering site is someone they’re in business with to act as their online storefront. All in all, while some of our food was good the experience isn’t worth it. I’d advise anyone that will listen to steer clear of this place unless you’d like an incorrect explanation of e-commerce with your incorrect order.
Ordered chicken pad thai for pickup and it took 1 full hour from time of order for it to be ready.. I have no problem waiting, but it does suck to wait 30 mins after the quoted pick up time, so maybe they need to have better estimates in place, or stop taking orders when they are clearly overwhelmed. The pad thai tasted burnt, like it was tossed around in a pan of burnt oil. Not much flavor to it other than that. Maybe will try again at a different time, but this experience was not good.
Tiny, cramped seating. Understaffed, so the service was poor. Dinner prices on appetizer portions & if you like Thai iced coffee. You won’t like theirs. It’s sugar water!
We came to this restaurant as it was rated a 4 on google . However the food came an hour and a half late. Even the ice tea took an hour . The server charged a tip and added it to our bill by herself . That too an 18% and when asked to remove , she answered rudely and said “I work for nothing .” All in all the service was terrible and would not recommend .
Do not order delivery from here. I ordered, waited ~1.5 hours for my food, finally called to check up on it. Person who answered the phone said they didn’t know where food was and would have to check with the driver who had been gone for ~20 min. Said they can’t do everything perfect when they’re so busy, hung up on me. Called the provided number for billing issues, they said the order was marked as delivered already. They called the restaurant to check up and said they were told the delivery driver never grabbed the order. Really disappointing.
Food is good. But please beware that wait times after you're seated is really very long. For us, it was 1.5 hours after ordering did we receive food. We received water and the server came to take our order almost 30 mins after we were seated. The restaurant seems to have only one server/receptionist and she does everything from receiving orders on the phone, handling pickup orders, serving food, taking orders, cleaning up, etc. Food was good but it was offset by the extremely delayed service. It has nothing to do with the server - she was visibly doing her absolute best. Bottom line - only go if you have at least 2 hours you can spend. Additionally, portion sizes appear to be relatively smaller.
Don't go here. The food is good but the service leaves much to be desired. I have been here two times in last one year. Both times, the wait time for food was around 2 hours for dine in. First time, the server literally yelled at me when asking I asked for the bill. Have some dignity and give your business to a place that respects it.
Update- Not ok for vegetarians. I found a tiiny piece of chicken in my veggie order(only reason I found it was because it crunched- had bone fragment, otherwise I wouldve unknowingly eaten it), makes me realize they dont clean the wok out inbetween meats n veggies. Also the currys all have fish/oyster sauce in them, you can taste it easy. Cant go back. For vegetarians: I go here every time I eat out. Its really good and the owner is good about making food vegan. The noodle dishes are all veganizable. I get the pad see ew or pad thai w/ no egg no fish sauce with tofu. Dont get the currys or tom yum though, even though she says it has no fish sauce I am sure it does, can taste it pretty easily. Get the noodles they are so good!
We visited this Thai restaurant with a family group of ten, including two infants, and the service was absolutely atrocious. The server was incredibly rude when I asked whether a dish contained meat. She had a horrible attitude and was clearly incompetent at her job. It's important to understand that not all customers are familiar with which dishes include meat, so proper behavior and helpfulness are essential. We ordered fried rice, which turned out to be mostly vegetables with a minuscule amount of rice—barely enough for one person. The Panang curry with Roti was decent, but the server's terrible attitude ruined the experience. I strongly urge the owners to reassess their staff and make necessary changes.
What terrible service. Don't go here on a busy day. We did an online order which was supposed to be ready in 30 mins. 45 mins later they haven't even started cooking it. Hostess was adamant that we cancel the order even when we offered to come back later. But if you don't want to make our food we'll just go somewhere else. 0/10 wouldn't go again.
Usually I love this place and the food. I make it a point to eat here whenever I go to Ithaca, which is quite often. But today, which was a Saturday, they were soooo understaffed, one person making the food and one person taking orders.. Order taking was delayed, food was delayed, food came out cold, food came out with incorrect spice level..(ordered 3, got 0 spice).. Won't be going back until they fix their staffing issue which could be never...
Worst service ever. I kindly asked when my take out order would be ready (1 hour after I ordered and 30 minutes AFTER both the online system and phone call confirmed AND I watched take out orders go out the door 20 min after I ordered) and the woman started screaming at me. "My food would be ready when it's ready" "they will give me my money back if I don't want it anymore" and "she doesn't have time to deal with me". The woman waiting next to mw said "this is the worst service - they once yelled at me for ordering on-line because it costs them money. I don't know why I keep coming back other than my daughter likes the food." Seriously, the woman yelling at me was complaining at her doing several jobs, but I am thinking, if this is how you treat customers asking a simple question, it makes sense why no one wants to work here....be kind Tamarind, and maybe you won't be so short staffed!
The day before I had my wedding and we decided to stop by this place because we never been there. I like the design inside. But customer service terrible!!!!! When it was time to pay, we had a problem. She is literally forced to give her more tip because they don't get normal salary's but ONLY get paid with tips. She was literally standing by the doors & not letting us leave unless we paid her tips she wanted... that’s unacceptable and unprofessional.
Very rude customer service. I placed an online order and for some reason they did not receive the order so they wanted me to pay again and then try to figure out a way to have the online order refunded when I asked why they were using this online platform if they weren’t receiving the orders, she said it was because they did not have time to change it. Do not recommend. My money was eventually refunded by the online platform but I never received the food because they expected me to pay twice before I even knew if I would be refunded. Very frustrating and unprofessional.
Disrespectful Host and Discriminatory Service at Tamarind I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience at Tamarind was beyond disappointing. The host was not only incredibly slow and disorganized, but also blatantly disrespectful to customers. It was painfully clear that she was prioritizing guests based on ethnicity, and not on who arrived first. We waited over 17 minutes in an almost empty restaurant, watching other guests — who arrived after us — be seated first. Only when those same guests pointed out that we were there before them did the host finally seat us. Not once did she apologize or acknowledge the mistake. This kind of behavior is completely
Placed a take out order and waited one hr past the time I was told it would be ready. Then I was told they didnt get the order to the kitchen. At least I had a nice conversation with another patron waiting for her order. Food is good, but I wont be back.
I went to pickup my food tonight. Went to try this restaurant for the first time. First my order was fully not processed. I ordered 3 items only two items were prepared. I waited more than 1 hour for this two dishes. Only to be disappointed of how cheaply and poor the quality of the food is. The food was so spicy I had to throw away the entire order. It was a pickup they refused to provide utensils and I was only told I can only have either a spoon or fork not both. Which to me was unheard of. I’m a travel nurse I have travelled to over 42 states never had this issue before with any other restaurant. Customer service is horrible. The lady who took my order came out of the kitchen and was arguing. Will not return there . Waste of money and time.
I had a very disappointing experience at Tamarind Thai, and I feel compelled to share it so others can make informed choices. 👎 Service Issues: - When I asked to change the water glasses because they were visibly dirty, the host responded, “I can’t bring water directly from the factory.” I was shocked by the dismissive attitude—this is not how customers should be treated. - A tofu dish we had canceled was still served. We let it go, assuming it was a mistake, but it added to the lack of attention to detail. - When I requested the bill and asked to pay via Apple Pay, the host was on a personal call and loudly said, “This customer has no patience.” I was calm and respectful, just trying to pay and leave after a long day and a 5-hour drive ahead. - She then applied a 20% tip automatically without asking or explaining, which felt inappropriate given the poor service. - Throughout the visit, the host was loud, unresponsive, and made me feel rushed and unwelcome. 🍽️ Food Quality: - The food was average. My daughter didn’t enjoy her meal, and we had to get something else for her afterward. Family Experience: - As a parent traveling with a child, I expected a more respectful and accommodating environment. Instead, I felt judged and unheard. ❌ Final Thoughts: I do not recommend Tamarind Thai. Respectful service is the foundation of hospitality, and unfortunately, this visit fell far below expectations.
