Stopped in after a long day in the water and we were super excited to have a delicious meal in a beautiful setting. The service was incredible our waitress was super attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. The food was INCREDIBLE. The guys all had the steak and were impressed with how perfectly they were cooked. My hubby added the lobster tail and said it was great. My daughter had the chicken and said it was juicy and seasoned perfectly. I did the gorgonzola bacon gnocchi and some asparagus and thought both were cooked perfectly. We all left incredibly full but in a great way, the way you feel after enjoying clean ingredients cooked to perfection!
Probably the best beachfront restaurant in Kona, tried them all - Magics has the best food compared to the rest. If you're looking for the picturesque atmosphere, this should be your choice... but if you're a hardcore foodie, go inland a bit. Beachfront locations come with a price - same check, not-quite-as-good food. It's a trade off, imo. Regardless, if you want the waves crashing in your line of sight while dining in Kona, this is most definitely the place. Recommend the beef bulgogi and karaage fish appetizers and any steak for dinner - note steaks are cut thin though. Excellent service & view, good quality food. Edit: updated from 4 to 5 stars for one reason - we felt COMPLETELY unrushed in our experience. The restaurant biz is 25% food and 75% real estate. Not here. Mahalo, Magics. Will be back. Soon.
We had such a great time at Magic Sands Grill. The food was amazing, and sitting on the patio with a view of the ocean and shoreline made it even better. It’s honestly one of the most beautiful places to eat in Kona, and the food is some of the best we tried during our trip. The staff were kind, respectful, and very professional, which made the whole experience feel easy and welcoming. Definitely a must-visit when you’re in Kona. 🌊🍴
Absolutely fantastic spot! Local fare was amazing and we always get the Ulu (kind of like Hawaiian sweet potatoes). So fun sitting outside watching everyone boogie board too. Drinks were delicious and lots of options. Great happy hour! Fills up so get there early or make reservations! We go every time!
Highly recommend dinner or lunch at Magics for the food, atmosphere, and service! We had dinner reservations for the day we arrived, which was the perfect introduction to Hawaii. We had the Ahi Poke Tower, Lawai'a Trio, and risotto. The risotto was the best risotto we've had outside of Italy, and the rest was delicious. The view on the patio was spectacular, overlooking a beautiful beach. We also had lunch on the day we departed, splitting a perfectly cooked fish and chips. Our dinner server Jay and our lunch server (Emily?) were both super friendly and helpful. Parking was easy since the parking lot in front was reserved for the restaurant. 10/10 would recommend.
Magics Beach Grill came recommended by our hotel, and honestly, I usually skip concierge picks but I’m really glad I didn’t this time. The place has a great vibe. The restaurant is a nice size, easy parking, and it sits right above the water with a view that’s just unreal. Watching the beach and ocean while you eat is worth it alone. The food? Spot on. I had the Cajun shrimp pasta and it was easily one of the best pasta dishes I’ve had, period. Perfectly cooked, tons of flavor, and balanced just right. Prices felt totally fair given the view and quality. Overall, it’s the kind of spot where you leave already thinking about what you’ll try next time.
Rhys, the bartender who served us was terrific. His drink recommendations and menu knowledge were impressive. Enjoying our cocktails, dinner entrees and dessert was the perfect way to celebrate a birthday at one of the only worthwhile restaurants in all of Kona. They even have Fortaleza and Komos Tequila for those who truly appreciate Tequila. Mahalos! We will be back to sit bar side with Rhys again.
Fantastic spot next to Magic Sands beach. We had lunch and dinner at this spot during the week. Lunch wasn't too crowded but reservations are a good idea for dinner. My family's celiacs were extremely pleased with the gluten free fish and chips.
Right on beach so great view! I got a grilled chicken breast with rice and side vegetable. A good meal free from allergens (gluten & nuts). Bathroom was nice & you can walk to the beach right after dining (steps away). I took Uber there from Outrigger Kona hotel.
On a girls trip to Kona we made reservations here for dinner. Super glad we did. This place had impeccable food, gorgeous surroundings and the best staff. We even had drinks to go!!
We had a fabulous evening at Magics with Jay as our server! Our Mai Tai and pina colada were the perfect start to our evening. For dinner, I had the gnocchi with shrimp and my guy had the pasta with shrimp & Cajun sausage. Both cooked perfectly and delicious. Sorry I didn’t take a photo. The crème brûlée for dessert was excellent! We enjoyed the beautiful oceanfront atmosphere and the wait staff! Jay was very friendly and welcoming! We will definitely come back!
It was our last night in town and we wanted a delicious meal with a great view. Magics Beach grill was perfect! Our server Jay was wonderfully attentive, had suggestions and good thoughts on the dishes we were considering. By the end of the night it felt like we were old friends. And the food? Delish! I was able to have gluten free fish and chips. The fried fish was just as good on my husband's taco plate. Chocolate lava cake for dessert.. Gluten free! Thanks Jay and Magics for a wonderful way to say see you later!
We went for an early dinner, and enjoyed it so much returned 2 days later, later in the evening (10 min wait). 1st night, I ordered the grilled scallops over risotto & we shared the wedge salad since they were out of spinich salad. All fresh & cooked to perfection. The 2nd night I ordered the seared Ahi with rice & seaweed salad, and shared the spinich salad with gorgonzola. So delicious both nights! My husband ordered the same entree for both nights since he enjoyed the shrimp with porteguese sausage over pasta. That surprised me he ordered the same thing. Service is good & friendly and the view is spectacular! Definately a gem on the ocean front!
Had an amazing time watching sunset with my wife. Food and service are both amazing. Must hit up this spot if you visit Kona! Mahalo!
Made reservations, showed to our outside table over looking Magic sands beach. Prompt service, drinks (Red ale & ginger kombucha) arrived, took our orders and a short time later our food was served. The ulu (breadfruit) was done to perfection, the poke tower was beautiful and the Ceasar salad was all that I hoped for. Finished with the Creme Brulee (celebrating my sister's birthday).
Not only is the patio which overlooks the ocean just lovely and amazing, the food, cocktails, and service are all great! We also love the walk up window for ordering snacks and drinks beachside, and hanging on the patio out front. 10/10
I went to this Hawaiian Restaurant back on March 30th, 2025 with some of my friends during my spring break trip to the Big Island of Hawaii in my 3rd year of college in WA State and I had a great experience at this restaurant in Kona, Hawaii. I had a Pineapple Fried Rice with chunks of pineapple and grilled chicken in them, which were really delicious! I also had a Pina Colada Smoothie which gives me Hawaiian Vibes and it was also delicious as well! 🌺 The server we had for the table my group sat in was great to speak with and she got our orders ready with a smile. I look forward to going back to Hawaii again sometime and trying out more fresh pineapple! 😋 🍍
Eating in Paradise doesn't get any better. A beautiful view from the outside tables along with amazing and friendly service. Food and drinks were excellent as well.
I came in to grab a drink on my day off and I was greeted by the most sincere staff I’ve ever met on island. Kylie (seen in the pic) was phenomenal. She was super attentive despite the crowds at the bar and adhered to all of my requests for my drink. I am a bit of a light weight and asked for less alcohol and she made it just perfect! I asked to snap her photo and she was super sweet about it! The ambiance is unlike anywhere else and Ryan was super attentive as well. He works fast and is always upbeat! Keep up the good work!!
We highly recommend Magic’s!! This is our first time to the Big Island and a friend recommended Magic’s to us. We are so thankful for that recommendation that we wanted to share it with others here 🙏 From the moment that we walked up to the hostess stand, we were greeted as if we were coming home. The true feeling of Aloha. We had just arrived midday and were slightly dragging from a long days travel. We got our walk on and headed over just to have a small bite. We ended up staying longer and working our way through the pupu menu and enjoying some refreshing cocktails. We enjoyed our conversation with our waitress Savannah, who was beyond expectations, so friendly, and so truly welcoming. We tried one pupu at a time and Savannah and the other servers were so happy that we were just sitting and relaxing, and there was no rush at all. How refreshing! We started with the Chef’s Fresh Catch Ceviche, and it was perfectly proportioned and absolutely delicious. After that experience, we decided to stay and have a little bit more so we tried the Ahi Poke Nachos … and holy moly, SO incredible! We were tempted to lick the plate afterwards, but refrained 😂 We finished off with Magic’s Wings and opted for the Sticky Shoyu Sauce. Honestly, YUM!!! we couldn’t have asked for a better first day experience. Everyone was so friendly when we were leaving and welcomed us back anytime. We overlapped with the dinner crowd and everything that was coming out looked incredible as well so we are planning on going back for dinner. Thank you to everyone at Magic’s (the host, the servers especially Savannah, the chef and kitchen staff) for such an amazingly memorable experience!!!
We were staying right across the street from this restaurant and absolutely loved it. Sunsets were amazing. Food was great. Service was spectacular.
Top notch place. Atmosphere is perfect. Outdoor seating right on the beach/ocean. Right at Magic Sands Beach. A bit pricey but worth it. If you like margaritas, then you've got to order the Mermaid Margarite.
Had an amazing last night on the island, dinner here! Swordfish was amazing - sunset was gorgeous! All of our server, Jay’s recommendations were amazing and what a fun server to have!
We went for a very late lunch and ordered off the regular menu .. (there were also happy hour discounted drinks & appetizers available but we forgot it was happy hour 🤦♂️ but good thing since we tried their main lunch items. I got the grilled ahi sandwich and partner chose the mochiko tempura fried version .. both were great and we also added a side Caesar salad (a very fair +$3 each) the food & service were great .. a bit pricy but after all we had fresh fish and the portion sizes were reasonable, We chose to eat outside under the sun umbrellas and had a great view of the very blue waters and people enjoying La’aloa Beach Park .. (also known as Magic Sands Beach) Plan to go back and maybe try their dinner .. (both menu sets pictured below
Last night on the Big Island, and we wanted to have a nice drink and beautiful view. Found Magics Beach Grill and couldn't have asked for anything better!! Aunties Mai Tai was the best we have had all week and The Poke' Tower was very tasty!! The sunset - fabulous. So happy we found Magics Grill b4 we fly out tomorrow.
If I could give this place more stars I would. This was our last meal on our trip to the big island and it didn't disappoint one bit. The seafood was very tasty and fresh. The cajun pasta was not salty which tends to happen at most places. The shrimp were huge and cooked just right! Needless to say the entire table was happy with their meal. Dont hesitate coming to this place. The food, music, vibe and THE VIEW at sunset is spectacular. Id suggest making a reservation! Sorry the pictures I added are not of the view from this restaurant 😆 but yes from the big island.
This place was great!! Fantastic views, great food, great atmosphere! Some food items and drinks were a little pricier, but it's totally worth it because of the view. And the food and drinks were really good. I got the fish tacos, and they were really flavorful and actually a bit spicy! My husband got the pineapple rice and it was very good as well, but quite spicy also! I recommend going at sunset, because it is beautiful. And just note that I think the spice level is a little on the higher end here!
The view was amazing from here. I went out for dinner, and the food, service, and atmosphere were all great.
We popped into this grill right on magic sands Beach and we were surprised at how much we really loved it. First off Maddie is an amazing server and made the experience. The blackened fish tacos were fantastic as were the drinks. Beautiful views from the table with the ocean at your feet. Loved it
After a fun but challenging time fighting the currents at Magic Sands Beach, we decided to make an outstanding decision to grab lunch at Magics Beach Grill. Wow. So, so good. Service was SPOT on and food was even better. Had the firecracker tacos with grilled Ono, Fish and Chips...BEST EVER! And grandson ordered his usual bacon cheeseburger...but, he almost never finished it...I look over and he has devoured it and sad he could do it again...now that's a good burger. So, let's talk Fries...I love potatoes in ANY form...even raw! But I especially love French fries! Magics seasoned fries are truly next level. No ketchup or fry sauce needed here...we pulled out own Magic trick and made them disappear! Thank you for a great lunch during our beach day.
One of the best restaurants that Big Island can offer. We actually went there twice on our trip and each time the food was amazing. They have good options in drinks and food. They accommodate vegetarian options too. My recommendation will be to get a reservation and try for sunset.
Mo was an amazing host! Remembered us from a previous visit and provided personal friendly service! She is a great asset! The Tuesdays tacos were th best we have had ! Fresh and savory! Quality ! We dined at the restaurant inside our first evening here , it was fresh and delicious food ! I was glad for the Gluten free options.
My wife and I recently dined here and were completely blown away by the quality of the food and the exceptional service. Every item we ordered was phenomenal, making this a truly memorable meal. We ordered the Smash Burger, and it was one of the best I've ever had—perfectly cooked, juicy, and packed with flavor. The Large Pineapple Fried Rice was a standout; it was beautifully presented and had a fantastic balance of sweet, savory, and aromatic flavors. It's a must-try! Finally, the Fish Karaage was crisp, light, and perfectly seasoned, demonstrating great technique. The portions were generous, and the overall atmosphere was inviting and enjoyable. A special shout-out to our server, Jason L. He was attentive, friendly, and efficient, ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Great service truly enhances a great dinner. If you are looking for fantastic food and a top-tier dining experience, I highly recommend this place! We can't wait to come back.
We had a wonderful dining experience at Magic Sands Grill. I was with my extended family (there were 15 of us), and it was challenging to find a table - particularly during the week after Christmas. Stephen bent over backward to accommodate us (if you meet him, ask about his tattoo). The service, also, was wonderful. I believe our server was Taylor (I could be wrong about his name, but he has an Eye of Ra tattoo behind his right ear). He took great care of us, and never neglected the table despite it being a busy night and us being a large party. It had just been my in-law's anniversary, and he went out of his way to make them feel special. Taylor steered me towards a mai tai (asking me if I wanted it sweet or more liquor-forward -- I chose liquor forward) that was the best I have had). The food, also, was very good -- the fish tacos, in particular, were great. All in all, a great evening.
We had dinner tonight and it was delicious! Parmesan Truffle Uli, lobster and goat cheese pasta and fried rice with fish. The service was outstanding and we enjoyed dining on the deck overlooking the water and watching the sunset. We made a reservation and so glad we did because this restaurant was busy! Recommend!
This restaurant has gorgeous views of the ocean and sunsets. Truly beautiful scenery. All of the seating is open air and you can see the sunset from all tables. My food was very good. The service is okay. We were given a water cup with someone’s lipstick on it which was pretty gross. Our server barely checked on us and after we asked for the check we waited a very long time before finally asking another server for our check. It’s very expensive but so is every other restaurant on the island so it’s to be expected.
Great place to stop and grab a bite to eat. The food was fresh and the views were fantastic. Great views of the ocean and magic sands beach. Lots of surfers in the water the day we went. We ordered some brussel sprouts which were terrific. We also ordered the ceviche, it was just ok and needed a bit more substance to it. The drinks were delicious and we loved the staff and the service. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
We had a table of 6 and the food came out a bit slow. Some came out hot and some room temp. Drinks were good. Server was good. Nice area but parking can be difficult.
Kylie is a great bar tender and server! Very friendly and attentive. Ahipoke nachos are delicious. One of my favorite places to sit and watch the sea while in Kona. It's our last visit before our plane ride off the islands.
05/04/2025 (Sun) We had made a reservation at just the right time to enjoy the sunset, but unfortunately, it was cloudy and we couldn’t see the sun setting over the ocean. Still, the soft light peeking through the clouds and the glow of the torches being lit created a truly beautiful and memorable atmosphere. Even though the ocean itself was blocked from our seats by a low wall, the beachside ambiance was absolutely fantastic. We sat outside and fully enjoyed the setting.🌇🌊 We ordered the Ola IPA ($10), Yuzu Ranch Water ($16), Ahi Poke Tower ($22), Magic’s Famous Ono Fish & Chips ($34), and the Cajun Shrimp Pasta ($34). The Yuzu Ranch Water didn’t really taste like yuzu and felt a bit too strong for me, so I ended up switching to a mocktail — the Keiki Tai ($9) — which was very refreshing. My husband wanted to order a second beer, but our server never came back to check in, so he didn’t get the chance. As a result, I offered him my drink instead.🍸🍺 The Ahi Poke Tower, while tasty, didn’t really live up to its name in terms of presentation — it wasn’t much of a "tower," which was a bit disappointing. The Fish & Chips were on the thin side, but nice and crispy with a tasty dipping sauce. The pasta came with several large shrimp and was satisfying, though I personally prefer spaghetti-type noodles that hold onto the sauce a bit more. One minor distraction — and I hesitate to even mention this — we did notice a strong sweat odor from one of the staff members each time they passed by. We understand they were working hard, but it did slightly affect our comfort. That said, the wonderful setting made up for the small inconveniences. All in all, we had a fun, memorable dinner in a truly special location.💖
If you are looking for a good place to eat right on the ocean, this is the place to go. You have amazing views right from the patio and even inside with their giant windows. So that was amazing. The staff was friendly here, service was good. They do have a free parking lot to park in, but it's small so plan ahead. The poke nachos were not our favorite, but we both enjoyed our fish tacos and fish n chips. Would recommend both!
Right on beach so great view! I got a grilled chicken breast with rice and side vegetable. The side vegetable was $15.00! It was about 7 stalks of asparagus. A good meal free from allergens (gluten & nuts). Bathroom was nice & you can 1 min walk to the beach after dining.
Wonderful food, but our waiter was also the bartender, so after we waited to be seated we had to wait another 15 minutes for him to acknowledge us. He took our drink order after whispering what beers they had (very nonchalant), then returned with them another 20 minutes later, almost slamming them on our table with an audible clank. He then mumbled what the fish of the day was, without saying what it included, took our orders and disappeared for the rest of our dinner. Regarding the food, we ordered the ceviche as an appetizer, which we never received, the fish of the day (marlin with rice and artichoke which was excellent) and the fish and chips (gluten free; Also excellent). Another waitress brought us our food, then another waitress randomly checked on us after seeing her table, refilling our drinks. So we're about an hour and a half from our last exchange with our waiter, now waiting for him to remember he has a table instead of flirting with the girls at the bar, when he finally stops by to mumble, "Y'all good?" We ask for the check and begin another waiting game as he stops to serve 3 other patrons their drinks, then brings the check to the table next to us, eventually bringing us the check. We asked if he was charging us for the ceviche, he said yes, we told him we never received it, and he respectfully replies, "Oh... you didn't?" No, dude, we didn't. Anyways, long story short, DO NOT let them give you to the bartender, because they're clearly more interested in tending to the bar than their assigned tables. With that caveat, I do recommend eating here because the food was excellent and the view of the beach and ocean were very nice.
Amazing view. Food nothing special. Service not that good. They didn't give us a better seat even though it was a a8lblw and not booked. Also at the end they were at rush to get us out.
Just don’t, it’s not worth it. Unless you got 200 dollars burning a hole in your pocket. The food was mid at best. My son’s burger was the best. I asked for a bloody, they were all out of mix, on a Monday afternoon. I’ll post a picture of my 30 dollar fish and chips. It was ono with what I guess was a cornstarch batter and it was basically nothing. The size of my thumb a spoon of coleslaw that tasted like maybe mayonnaise on cabbage and some fries. This lunch was pitiful. Do yourself a favor get the ono tacos to go at Shaka tacos and sit on the beach for free for a view. This place is overpriced and underwhelming. Dont even think their chef knows how to cook.
We wanted to love this place. The initial impression was a very cool beach vibe, and the recycled plastic art was genuinely interesting and well done. Unfortunately, the service experience quickly overshadowed that first impression. Despite having a reservation, we waited 15 to 20 minutes to be seated and were then placed far from the main dining area near the parking lot. From that point on, we were largely forgotten for most of the evening. Our food was literally walked out to us through the parking lot, which made the reservation feel pointless. When it came time to pay, we could not find our waitress. After asking two bus staff members and the hostess for help, we were told we would just have to wait because only the waitress could close the bill, despite everything being logged electronically. Also worth noting, there is an additional charge if you choose a salad as your side, which was not clearly communicated. The food itself was mediocre. Combined with the service issues, the overall experience fell well short of expectations.
I’m so bummed but this was not a good experience at all. This was by far the poorest service we had on the island. Our server was totally absent for nearly an hour while we waited for our food. Our appetizer never came and we had hungry, grumpy kids. When we asked another server to check on our food, it came out but had obviously been sitting for a long time waiting to be brought to us. The food was cold, the seared scallops had no sear, the fried fish lost its crunch, and the fish was terribly bland. We spent few hundred dollars and left disappointed and frustrated. The vibes of the restaurant were lovely and the view was incredible at sunset. I hope the servers and cooks can receive better support or training.
Atmosphere is amazing, but the food was disappointing. Both my steak and my girlfriend's pasta were undercooked. At the high price per plate, we expected a lot better.
The food was honestly overpriced I get it, we have a beach view and we gotta pay for that. The fish and chips tasted terrible the seasoning of the Fish and tartar sauce just did not complement each other or just too much seasoning that felt overpowering. I’ve had WAY better tasting fish and chips for half the price. The jumbo scallops were meh.
Not worth it- especially when you consider the opportunity cost of not eating at some of the amazing places on island. We got the breadfruit appetizer (decent) and the fish and chips (so disappointing). After waiting a long time for our food, the fish was soggy, under-seasoned and overcooked. The fries were cold and limp. The slaw was underwhelming. Although the atmosphere was cool, you'd be much better off getting a local dinner plate and posting up on the shoreline for a picnic.
