J&G Fried Chicken in Ladera Ranch offers Taiwanese-style fried chicken, particularly the popcorn chicken, which many find reminiscent of Taiwan. Some find the food too sweet or inconsistent, and seating is limited. Service can be slow when busy.
Tip: Visit on a weekday when it's less busy to avoid waits. The popcorn chicken is highly recommended, especially with the J&G spicy sauce.

As a Taiwanese living in the U.S., finding J&G Fried Chicken in Irvine really made my day. The aroma is instantly recognizable and brings back memories of Taiwan. The chicken is tender, flavorful, and quite different from typical popcorn chicken.
The Popcorn Chicken taste just like the one in Taiwan—crispy outside, juicy inside, definitely brings back memory. In the U.S., they offer dipping sauces, which shows they really understand the American fried chicken dipping sauce culture. The J&G spicy sauce pairs perfectly with the crispy chicken, like adding a different kind of fried chicken to the mix. The curly fries are also delicious. The large combo meal is the right amount for one meal. What really surprised me was the chicken tenders combo, which comes with a hamburger bun. The staff recommended combining it into a burger, and it was such a cool idea! The chicken tenders taste amazing—mild in flavor, crispy, and juicy. This combo is great, and I’ll definitely come back for more!
I love the chicken since it is better than the one we had in Taiwan, although the price is very pricy. The popcorn chicken is very nice. However, there is limited seating place and since the door is always open, sitting inside is not enjoyable for the meal. A lot of people prefer eat something else such as the tables besides 85C.
clerk very friendly, service is kindly and politely. highly recommend "chicken popcorn". Food too good that we don't get time for pictures.

在美國也能吃到來自台灣的食物很開心!川麻雞排很好吃!👍👍😋
好吃
辣味雞排很好吃❤️
Nice spot for Taiwanese fried chicken. Menu is pretty simple but the food is really good!
Tried it today and it was pretty good. Definitely worth trying if you like fried chicken!
First time trying and it was actually really good. Chickens are tasty and flavorful, would come back!
The food here is amazing! I ordered the spicy chicken fillet and a mango milk tea, both were exactly what i was craving. Amazing customer service and a welcoming environment, would recommend.
The fillet is really good
This has became one of my go-to spots in Irvine when I’m craving popcorn chicken, and honestly it might be the best popcorn chicken in Irvine. The texture is perfect—super crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside—and the seasoning is really flavorful. It’s way better than typical fast-food fried chicken, which often has bland meat and thick batter. The batter here is light and crispy, and the chicken inside stays really juicy. I also highly recommend the spicy chicken fillet, which is pretty unique compared to other fried chicken places nearby. The spice has great flavor and the chicken stays crispy and juicy. It’s one of those items that once you try it, you’ll want to order it again. My coworker ordered the chicken sandwich and loved it too. She even said it was better than Chick-fil-A, which says a lot because she eats there all the time. According to her, the chicken was bigger, crispier, and tasted fresher. Definitely one of the best fried chicken spots in Irvine.
As a Taiwanese looking for some taste of home here in OC, I came across with this J&G Fried Chicken and realized this is my go-to place in Taiwan when I am looking for some popcorn chicken. The taste is the same, heavily seasoned batter and chicken, with its signature five spice seasoning makes them distinguish from other popcorn chicken. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, overall not so greasy. I also ordered fried oyster mushrooms and it was surprisingly good.
I’ve had popcorn chicken from a lot of places, but J&G Chicken’s is one I keep thinking about. The seasoning is a little different from the usual. It's really flavorful and kind of addictive. The chicken itself is super tender and juicy, and the outside stays nicely crispy. It’s one of those snacks where you finish it and immediately want more. Definitely a place I find myself going back to whenever I’m craving popcorn chicken.
Such a great place! The food is delicious. The fried spicy chicken fillet is very fresh and the seasoning is special and flavorful. It reminds me a lot of the taste in Taiwan. I was also so happy to find Taiwan’s golden purple yam balls here — they are fantastic! Crispy, sweet, and really authentic. Thank you for bringing a taste of Taiwan!
逛商場逛到就買了,在台灣很喜歡吃,拿到熱熱的剛炸出來,跟台灣味道一樣!
Way better than the other ones.
Best Chicken around... I love it
If you’re looking for that thick, super crunchy batter, this isn't it. Their style is more about the unique spice blend and a tender, chewy texture. The chicken cartilage is really addictive with a good bite, and the king oyster mushrooms stay nice and moist inside. Definitely a unique flavor profile in Irvine if you want something different from the usual fried chicken.
Nice Food and Drink, the wait could be longer sometimes though.
I really enjoy the chicken leg and thigh alongside with the fried mushrooms and popcorn chicken, very filling meal and the workers are nice. Best to come when it’s less busy if possible. Also get to see all the food made fresh which is awesome! My favorite drink would probably be the mango milk tea or pineapple green tea at 25% sugar tropical and just the right sweetness!
Highly recommend trying this place out, Food was amazing, Im definitely coming back.
Food was delicious, and staff was very friendly I will definitely be coming back. I recommend checking this spot, it won’t disappoint 🔥
Love the popcorn chicken here
Good chicken and fast service
i like popcorn chickens here, will try other items next time.
Without bones, the chicken here tastes even better than what you’d get from the same brand in Taiwan.
I'm just happy to have a Taiwanese style fried chicken place nearby.
Really good chicken and curly fry combo, but the sitting area had spills on the floor and dirty tables
Tastes great! Be sure to check out their Hacienda location too!
The service was nice and the food was really good!
Crispy and juicy popcorn chicken!
Good Restaurant~ :)
good good good chicken it tastes just like the stores in Taiwan and fried chicken at taipei night markets in general. the skin’s a lot crispier than most fried chicken and the chicken itself is juicy. everything done fresh. GOOD fish cakes. very nice cashier too.
Did you know that 85° Bakery has their own fried chicken shop? That’s right, their second location in the US has just landed in the Irvine Spectrum, and it’s right next to the 85! They have this beautiful display in the front, and I got to try some Taiwanese night market classics like popcorn chicken, crispy squid, and fried king oyster mushrooms, and their J&G spicy sauce on the chicken tenders is to die for. Would you try this? Thanks for reading! ^-^
That's good chicken! Taiwanese popcorn chicken shops keep closing, so I'm glad this is here. Came here twice, both times did not disappoint. Fragrant spices, juicy meat - this will be my main go to at the Spectrum now!
Great Taiwanese chicken. Definitely get the popcorn chicken and taro yam balls for dessert. I like the blended teas because they're not too sweet.
The food was sooo delicious! Out of all the popcorn chicken I've tried in the U.S, this place tastes the closest to what I eat in Taiwan. Their fried sweet potato balls are delicious as well. I'm not sure why this place only has 3.6 stars. The only downside was that I didn't see anyone cleaning the tables so when my friend and I sat down, our table was kind of creasy and covered in crumbs.
I’ve tried a lot of fried chicken spots in OC, and J&G is definitely one of my favorites. The chicken is super crispy on the outside but still juicy inside, and you can tell it’s made fresh. The seasoning is really flavorful without being too salty, and I like that they offer different flavor options. The staff was friendly. The service can take a little longer sometimes, but I’m totally fine with it since everything is freshly cooked and definitely worth the wait. Overall, a great spot if you’re craving fried chicken.
I was just in Taiwan weeks ago and was craving this again. I got addicted to the spicy numbing flavor. So happy it's in the US too. I ate at J&G as well as several other highly rated cutlet places in Taipei for comparison (and funnily Din Tai Fung which is right across from this location now). Happy to report it tastes very similar in the US. One difference is the chicken cutlet doesn't have bone here, which I think is an improvement. I always got annoyed nawing around the bone part as I got down to it. Also part of the addiction is the strong spices it's coated in so I was confused there was no spicy option when ordering. Luckily they had little spice packets out you can grab. My advice is don't be shy in coating all sides! Took me about 3 packets for a single cutlet to get my fix. This might explain other reviews saying they are missing five spice flavors, I can tell they didn't use the packets from the photos. In my opinion they are doing people a disservice not coating in spices by default! It's not the same without it.

As someone who has enjoyed J&G in Taiwan, I was thrilled to hear they were opening at the Irvine Spectrum! I visited on a Saturday afternoon and was glad to see a good number of people dining in. The ordering process was convenient, with both a self-service kiosk and a staff member taking orders. However, the menu was a bit limited, with only a handful of entrees and combos available—some were even out of stock. They did display a "coming soon" section featuring items like Crispy Fried Squid, Fish Cake, Curly Fries, Fried King Oyster Mushroom, Sweet Potato Fries, and Yam Balls, which was exciting! I ordered the large popcorn chicken entree. The wait time for my order was a bit long—around 10-15 minutes— and the portion size felt a little small for the $11 price tag. Additionally, the chicken wasn’t as hot as I would have liked, though it tasted just as I remembered from Taiwan. I think J&G has a lot of potential, and they may still be working out the kinks. I’m looking forward to trying the new menu items in the future, but for now, there’s definitely room for improvement.
Went on a week day when it wasn’t so busy. There was no wait and the food came out fairly quick. Inside seating is limited and each table is for 2 people, so not good for large groups but you can take the food and eat outside. We all enjoyed the fried chicken, my personal favorite was the chicken cartilage more than the popcorn chicken. The prices are kind of high for snack food, but everything costs a lot these days.
A Taste of Taiwan at J&G Fried Chicken I'd been meaning to try J&G Fried Chicken, a well-known Taiwanese Fried Chicken joint, since I heard it was coming to Los Angeles. Luckily, I stumbled upon their location at Irvine Spectrum Center. My last visit to Taiwan was back in 2018, and I'm thrilled to report that the spicy chicken filet at J&G Fried Chicken is just as delicious as I remembered. While I didn't get to try other menu items, the chicken filet is clearly the star of the show. I can see why other fried chicken dishes might pale in comparison to American customers. Our spicy chicken filet was cooked to order, has juicy meat and crispy skin, generously coated with spicy powder (and spicy with a hint of sweetness). I also tried the lemon iced tea with guava, which was a refreshing and tasty. The only drawback is that the restaurant is on the smaller side, so grab a seat at outside instead. Overall Rating: 4.5/5 J&G Fried Chicken has won me over with its authentic Taiwanese flavors. I'll be back for more of that amazing spicy chicken filet!
We normally order takeout and depends on how many the customers are it could be a little slow. We like the unique ones like Cartilage and Mushroom. We always order the chicken popcorn too but it’s sometimes good, sometimes looks burnt.
I finally found my favorite chicken shop! The chicken here is perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, juicy and flavorful inside. The seasoning is spot on, the service is friendly, and the overall experience is fantastic. Highly recommended for chicken lovers!

Good
A mentor friend had treated us to this place. We came at a time when it was really busy - the line was long and it was noticeable that the place was understaffed. The food is as expected for what the restaurant represents - a little elevated fast food place. It’s definitely geared towards the younger generation. I wish there was more support and inside seating area. There’s great potential! Still - thank you all+
The staff are super nice but expediting times need some work.
The food was great! What put me down is the service. You will need to speak perfect English so the guy standing behind the till can understand you.
Chicken was flavorful, but rather soggy unfortunately.
new taiwnese fried chicken finally opened, really love this juicy chicken.
Not sure what the hate is for this place. I tried the fillet for the first time here today and it was excellent! Tasted just like the chicken fillets from Taiwan. It was made fresh, seasoning on point. You can literally see the five spice and sichuan on the fillet itself, even the pictures below. Overall, I would come back and get another.

Tried the popcorn chicken here, it’s decently priced and the chicken is good quality. The seasoning is very bland and the chicken doesn’t have a great crispyness. Middle of the road in my opinion but gets the job done if you want some chicken.
Fried mushrooms are pretty good. But there are definitely better crispy chicken around this area than, the one they have is not really taiwanese style in my opinion.
It's aiiiite. Nothing spectacular than the average chicken. In my opinion, I've had better tasting and crispier popcorn chicken. The combo comes with popcorn chicken and curly fries, but no drink?
Tastes fine. Nothing remarkable and not sure why it's so popular. As others mentioned, chicken is not very crispy nor juicy nor flavorful.
Chicken was good and everyone was nice. My only complaint would be the portion sizes. Their red guava lemon green tea is really good.
OK popcorn chicken. Not the best, Not the worse. Lacks a bit of popping flavor. Would not try again. Good service though.
The batter is very lightly seasoned, meaning the dipping sauces do the heavy lifting. The battered oyster mushrooms and yam balls were good and the fruit tea includes free boba, but the curly fries were the same as other fast food places. The combo isn't as special as I hoped, because it doesn't seem much different than what you get at Chick-fil-A. If you were allowed to substitute something else for the curly fries, it would only be slightly better. Not much indoor seating either, so don't go expecting a table available. If the chicken is their specially, you have better options elsewhere at the Spectrum.
I do not like this kind of batter. It doesn’t add the crunch you’d expect from Taiwanese popcorn chicken. The flavors are okay otherwise.

This review is only for the chicken cutlet. I wanted to start this review by saying my parents are both Taiwanese and were really excited to try this so called Taiwanese chicken place, but they were disgusted by the flavor of the chicken. It tastes like nothing you would get in Taiwan, the spices were completely off (almost tasted like paprika and maybe black pepper or something?) Where is the five spice and white pepper???? My mom literally said “吃到會害怕” which might translate to “I’m scared to eat it/scared after eating it.” My dad says their slogan about being nostalgic for fried chicken in Taiwanese memory is true because after eating this you will be nostalgic for the fried chicken in Taiwan because it’s nothing like it. Maybe from a fried chicken perspective, it was fine. Came out hot, chicken wasn’t completely dry, but I did find the breading to be on the thicker side. The flavor profile was definitely off though. I was forced to eat the rest because no one else wanted it 🥹

To be honest we couldn’t eat it. Was whatever, the flavor was not for us
Service is HORRIBLE. The tables and floor havent been cleaned lately. No cashier, ordering system is clunky and full of glitches. Longgg wait for food as well.
Just really not flavorful at all. Really disappointed, had high hopes.
less than 1 month already a price hike?
Chicken tastes too sweet, with a bit of strange sour notes, just awkward. It’s white meat and feels too dry. Nothing compares to KFC’s juiciness. Disappointing. The yum ball is not bad(that’s what they got the 2 stars for), my 5 year old daughter loves them.
If you are looking for Taiwanese level customer service here you will get disappointed. The Indian cashier lady doesn’t know how to talk to a customer, can’t really understand what she is saying either, she needs to be louder and more clear when she speak, then maybe know to apologize when certain item is not available on their menu. (not talking about the coming soon items) Overall bad experience with the service and the long wait.
The moment we walked inside it was a mess. Multiple tables were left dirty after the lunch rush and I'm not sure what excuse could be used as the young cashiers were chitchatting amongst themselves. We had to ask them to clean up the tables and I saw this as a minor since I worked in food years ago. No big deal. The big deal was the chicken my husband ordered - chicken thigh combo. At first, they didn't include fries so he ran up to go get it. Then, he ripped his chicken in half and realized the chicken was straight up RAW. Can you imagine if a kid ate chicken raw? So we had to wait another 10-12 mins for them to fry him a new one and then that one was OVERCOOKED. Yeah sure they said sorry, but nothing else was done to mediate the situation. Just a giggle at the whole situation. Not cool especially because this is a basic food safety. While my order of chicken cartilage was delicious, I will be hesitant to give this place another go. We'll see.
Ordered the chicken sandwich which I found out halfway that it wasn't cooked all the way. I reported this to the cashier/manager and gave me some popcorn chicken to compensate. Popcorn chicken was good can't say anything about the sandwich.

Disappointing experience overall. The place looks modern from the outside, but that’s where the positives end. The food was underwhelming—bland, overly greasy, and definitely not worth the price. Fried chicken should be crispy and flavorful; this was neither. Service felt rushed and indifferent, like customers were an inconvenience rather than a priority. The restaurant was nearly empty, yet the wait was longer than expected, which makes no sense. For the price point, I expected much better quality and attention to detail. Plenty of other spots nearby do the same thing better and cheaper. I won’t be coming back.
Omg if the number one fried chicken in Taiwan tastes like this, then they don’t know what fried chicken is! The batter is way too black peppery with an unnecessary spice mix taste that does not go with fried chicken. Not at all crispy and fresh tasting. And at $6 per chicken tender c’mon, the expectation is higher. The curly fries taste so frozen that store bought frozen curly fries take reign! No wonder the place is always empty despite the great location. Their service is also horrible, when you walk in seems like the people working there are robots: no greetings, no conversation, just awkwardly waiting for you to order using tablet. Will never go back!

Honestly the worst chicken I’ve ever had
Doesn’t taste good
Ordered pickup, received wrong order, no one pick up phone call while it’s still at operating time.
Chicken was kinda flavorless and there’s better spots for more chicken with more flavor for less money. 15 dollars for 2 tiny pieces is outrageous
If you are expecting Hacienda Heights J$G ✋🛑
Seriously? 25 minutes for a simple individual meal? Really????? How is that possible??? With no line and no busyness. Bad service and expensive food! Not recommended!
Super expensive for not so tasty food. One fillet for $10 is super expensive and not the taste I was hoping it to be.
Very expensive for small pieces of chicken, not the same quality service as in Taiwan
Bad service experience, the manager with bad attitude. Why you be so rude to talk with customer?
“I arrived at 7:30 and no one was there to greet or assist me. I waited but wasn’t acknowledged. Very disappointing customer service.”“I arrived at 7:30 and no one was there to greet or assist me. I waited but wasn’t acknowledged. Very disappointing customer service.”
Unfortunately this was a big disappointment. It’s not very expensive, but the flavors were not for me, the fried chicken breast was slimy and the breading separated, it was spicy but had a mix of other spices I think cumin, that unpleasant. The chicken sandwich was a skinny piece of chicken on a sweet bun, it was also not what I expected. Don’t waist your money, but if you must, try the popcorn chicken instead.
