The food at La Scala is undeniably fresh and expertly prepared. Both the indoor and outdoor ambiance was perfect for an evening meal. We had the cherry and burata as an appetizer which I would definitely recommend, it’s a combination that I really enjoyed. I would also recommend trying the risotto and the seafood, both of which were exceptional. La Scala was a memorable dining experience and will definitely be back.

The olive oil with the bread was delicious. I am not sure what they mixed with the oil, but I couldn’t get enough. Abby was our server and she took very good care of us. Everything we ordered was delicious, from the meatballs to the cannoli. I suggest making a reservation.

Really tasty pasta and I liked the nice authentic Italian style to it! I like how they use their farm grown veggies from cooking! Pretty fine dining and they usually only prefer prior reservations at least on weekends! I’ll say this place is expensive for a student budget!

I've heard a lot about La Scala and I finally got to try it tonight. The food is spectacular, very good authentic italian food. Our waitress was very sweet and for a saturday night, the service was extremely fast! Will visit again for sure!

This was my first time at La Scala and it was wonderful. We arrived at 5pm right as they were opening for dinner and seating was plentiful. The place is beautiful, the seating very comfortable, and the menu extensive. They bring fresh baked bread to the table with an oveo and basil dipping sauce. Each meal came with a choice of soup or salad. We had the appetizer with the smoked salmon in crepes with dill cream sauce which was mouth watering. You get 4 large pieces. I had the Beef Romana (without mushrooms) and it's now in the top ten best meals I've had. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. I highly recommend. Meals were between $16-24 plus drinks, tax, and tip. Worth every penny.

This place was beyond amazing. The food and drinks were excellent. We sat inside but we were still able to look outside which had a great view and peaceful ambiance. I went with my dad but this place would be great for date night.

Great service and delicious Italian food. I was a bit worried when the waitress had to check to see if they had Peroni beer. The other choices were light, fruity, or homemade beer. The Peroni was delicious! (I had the steak skewer)

My mom, sister and I are visiting my Aunt Janet who lives in Colfax IN. My cousin Mindi said this would be a great place to go eat. OMG she was right. WOW This food was the best Italian I have ever had. Claudia was our server and was she a great person enjoyed her so much!! Thanks Claudia 🤩

My absolute favorite favorite restaurant in the area for special occasions. It’s a bit pricey but absolutely worth it. With an elegant environment, the lovely staff serves up unique and scrumptious dishes. I’ve never had anything here that I don’t enjoy.

Phenomenal Italian restaurant in downtown lafayette. Homemade, homemade. Love the warm olive bread loaf! Everything is good. We ordered a wide variety for a table of 7 - cioppino, fettucine alfredo, chorizo mac and cheese, shrimp scampi, bolognese, la scala angel hair along with antipasta platter, excellent calamari and crab dip. Very good prices considering portions and quality of ingredients! Must dine when in Lafayette!

Excellent service. Excellent food. We ordered calamari for an appetizer and wow, it was the best I've ever had. Very tender. Everyone in my group got a different meal and everyone was very pleased with the quality and portion sizes. I personally got the fettuccine alfredo, which was very creamy and tasty. Highly recommend!

Very nice meal and great staff. We went late without reservations and waited 45 min for a table. Worth the wait, but reservations are a good idea.

I am new to town and visited La Scala for the first time. My visit was during lunch hour. The service was great, not over bearing but attentive. I loved the atmosphere of the older building. I would have chose to sit outside if not for the wind. It has a nice looking patio. I ordered and Italian Mojito and the daily special of sauteed chicken with artichoke and gnocchi and other delicious flavors. It was amaaaazing. I will definitely be back and already looking forward to trying the other dishes La Scala has to offer.

I had a wonderfully abundant vegan Sherri's Pasta meal with my daughter. The food was delicious. My veggie noodles were accompanied by Madeira mushroom and spinach sauce, which was satisfying as a soup by itself (I could hardly resist). Btw, La Scala offers a large variety of sauces for your meal and the talented and gifted server, Cassandra knows them all by heart. I have had some experiences, but I give her the gold for her beautiful smile, thiughtfulness, and awesome customer service! If you want to be pampered and fed well, La Scala is the place to go.

Eat outside if you can. Wait staff was attentive, but not aggressive and the courses were paced well for a relaxed meal. A good selection of wines and spirits.

Very nice they had really good food although because the patio is open a fly will linger in but they took care of it. Would go back.

I had the stuffed chicken with risotto. Was delicious. Waitress was very helpful with wine and food selection. Lots of options on the menu. The bread they serve is outstanding.

We loved this place. I had the Cajun pasta and thought it was great. My wife had the risotto with chicken and our daughter had the salmon salad. The brie appetizer was wonderful. Our sever shay was outstanding. We will be back. Thanks for a great evening. Lots of gluten free options which was appreciated.

Excellent service and food! We came in from a hike and they weren’t bothered with our casual attire even though it appeared to be a fancier restaurant. We all loved everything we ate. Prices were fair and food was extremely fresh.

One of my favorite places in town. Recently tried their pumpkin ravioli and pistachio cannoli and they were to die for!

This was an amazing restaurant. I had few complaints, and the food was delicious and the service superb. Our waitress was so friendly and helpful throughout the meal. I had a lovely conversation with her, and she explained all the food in detail. The food was also very good. Mine tasted a bit strange to me, but not in a bad way. Simply something I had never tried. I had the ravioli, and my family members had the seafood special. The cheesecake for desert was also very filling. Very much recommended this restaurant, but note that it might be easier with a reservation in advance.

The food was amazing! Beautifully plated, tasted incredible, and felt super authentic. Can't complain at all about the food, the atmosphere is nothing special but you can sit outside. We may do that next time!

Finally got to try this place. Interesting decor and fantastic service. These are less important and lets focus on the food. Would like to give a 3.5/5 on the food but I will round it up. Each table comes with a small portion of garlic basil olive oil, which I like a lot. Good balance of aroma. The dinner rolls are mediocre. Tastes like from a grocery store. The starter bacon brie was great. Everything goes together well. The soup was okay. Not much to comment. The wild salmon was well cooked but a bit unseasoned. The asparagus was overcooked a bit. The risotto was seasoned well but just a bit dry. The orange reduction on salmon and ravioli was one thing I dont like on this dish. Orange reduction is fine and probably a good idea, but it needs to be seasoned instead of tasting just like thick orange juice. Pinches of salt will do the job. The gnocchi with fresh mozzarella is good, especially the mozzarella. But we were too full to enjoy this dish. It had good combination of flavors and was well seasoned. One small thing to improve is to cook the garlic either longer or shorter. The garlic had a taste of neither thoroughly cooked nor raw. (both ways have distinct flavors). Not quite pleasant. The cheesecake was okay. The cheesecake itself and the fruit preserve itself were both great. But the preserve was a bit overwhelming which shades the cheesecake flavor too much. We had to scoop some off. Overall a pleasant dining experience. Even though I find unsatisfying points, those are not to shadow the good parts. Overall one of the better restaurant locally. I would recommend this place

Like the interior decoration. The platter for the appetizer is ok. My entree is good. Their Tiramisu is great and recommended!!!

J

The food was good, except for lemon seeds in my pasta. Tiramisu was excellent. Overall the service was great. Will definitely visit again.

Outdoor patio is a lovely spot to spend time. Service was solid and the food was very good. We shared an app - the size of my shrimp risotto was huge - we could have easily split it.

That was delicious! I was apprehensive about visiting because I had February 2020 pre-pandemic for a dinner outing with friends. That experience was fairly disappointing. Still, I gave it a second try over the weekend, and yes!!!! So much better. The wait time was a little long, but we had arrived later in the night and it was already fairly busy by then. The staff was super great and the bread deliciously warm. I, of course, ordered the bruschetta appetizer as my meal and was not disappointed. Look how beautifully it was displayed!! That sauce they added was the incredible cherry on top!

We had exceptional service during this visit to La Scala which has amazing, fresh farm to table food. My only complaint is the extremely small desert portion for the price but still deliciously good!

Many good things to eat but, man! The playlist is AWESOME…..and spans every genre! I mean, let’s face it: you can get amazing food many places. This place is buzzing with every type of person and music. I’m a fan!

It had been a year or so since we have been here. I loved the Sherri's pasta in the past. This time it was not seasoned and it was very bland and disappointing. The meatballs were phenomenal! My husband and friends had no complaints about their meals. They said it was "fine" but they raved about the meatballs. 😊 Our waitress was a little preoccupied but she was very pleasant when she did return to our table. Will we return? Maybe. It's not off the list.

S

Our waitress gave us amazing service, super friendly, everything came out as ordered. The gnocchi were delicious, tasted homemade. The salads and bread were “meh” at best. The rest of the food was alright. The restaurant itself needs a little updating but ok.

It’s an overrated Italian restaurant. It’s just mediocre. I live at Purdue for four years and heard good reviews about the restaurant. I love Italian food and also cook . However, the first time experience is not good as my expectations. The lemon fettuccine was just okay and did not have enough layers of flavor. I may not come back considering the price and it needs reservation. Lafayette area has no authentic Italian food. I prefer Olive Garden if I want to eat pasta.

Food was amazing as usual. Server was barely present. Very stoic. Brought regular water glasses for my pre-school aged children. The worst part was when I grabbed a wipe out of the diaper bag to clean up a mess on the table and realized how dirty the table was. I scrubbed with the wet wipe for several minutes and still couldn't get the grime off the table. The wipe was completely black:(

Mister B

The staff are pleasant people and it's nice little building, but the food was a bit disappointing. The ravioli brasato had 4 mini sized ravioli, hardly any beef, and sauce that tasted like Progresso vegetable soup. By the time I finished picking out the skimpy meat bits and ravioli over half the plate was still covered with nasty canned tasting tomatoes swimming in soup broth. The highlights were reasonably priced booze and a Tiramisu desert, which my wife wouldn't eat because she thought it tasted "like coffee'.

J
Josiah Lewis

The appetizers and the limoncello cake dessert had issues. The bread was dried out like they tried to warm it in the oven after it was cooked. The cake was a weird mix of flavors that didn’t work. The entrees were great. Most of the desserts were great. My two biggest issues were the atmosphere and food. The chair coverings and art/decor just felt cheap, it was hard to hear and the restaurant wasn’t even full. To spend $200 on five people for basically good entrees and some dessert just seemed like a let down. It felt like it had great potential but it was a let down.

La Scala has a great atmosphere and I want to be kind as I may gone there on an off day. The atmosphere (lighting and decor) was nice but it was so cold that no one took their coats off. The server was great and very accommodating. The food I ordered was good but my other guest stated their food lacked flavor, I tasted their food and they were correct it did not taste like there was much seasoning added to the food. For the price I did not think the food that night met the expectations of the guests I brought but again it could be a one off as I had never eaten there before.

L
Logan Schrader

the food was solid, everything came out nice and hot and all the flavors were there. some of the seafood was a bit overcooked and the risotto was a bit soft as well. the wait staff was very nice so no complaints there. the ambiance and the general feel of the restaurant definitely needs an update/deep clean

It was sad to see all the negative changes here. We used to eat here, but it was our first post pandemic experience here. Nice environment, friendly and welcoming staff and good starting breads are the only unchanged things. We ordered the food, soups, lamb steak and their special of the day, seafood pasta. All were average or below average. But service was even worse. Although our server was very attentive and friendly when taking the order, they never checked on us to see if we needed anything. We needed salt and pepper, which we didn't find the chance to ask for, but the main problem was small strips of metal, maybe from a steel scrubber (See photos) in the pasta. We waited over ten minutes and tried to draw our server's attention, even with waving hand, with no success. We were hungry and decided to put the metal strips aside and eat the food. Then let the server know when we had a chance which didn't happen until she brought the check, and even then, she reacted as it's not such an issue without even a proper apology or something like "we make sure that neve happens again". Just a very fast "oh, sorry" and leaving the table. Overall the service wasn't good. The last point is their table arrangement. We were given a small table in a corner, but it was too close to the next table, and the server wasn't able to service them without me moving a bit and she was too close to me the whole time talking with them.

One of my favorite places to eat is open again. Not sure what happened , the menu is sooo small now. The vibe is no longer relaxing and comfy but chaotic and unorganized. My heart is breaking because this was a “go to “ place for us and I’m just not sure we can call it that anymore. We will have to talk about it before we come back. Please bring back the LaScala we know and love. Edit: 2/16/2024. Came for Valentine’s dinner. Well , ordered drinks , my Apple Old Fashioned was a glass full of ice to almost over flowing. Wife’s blueberry/lemon daiquiri was delicious. My Chicken broth rice and vegetables soup was JUST BROTH CARROTS AND CELERY. The pasta under her chicken Parm was cold. My Lobster/shrimp Mac and cheese was mostly shrimp/ orange and very little lobster. We have been coming for years and I guess all good things must end. I personally am done with LaScala . It’s barely a shadow of what it once was. I’ll drive to Indy if I want this Italian from now on. I’m sad because we strive to support locally owned businesses but damn , I want it to be good and worth the money .

The stars are not for the food but rather the service /experience. I was seated and waited about 8 minutes to be acknowledged by a server. I watched many different servers walk past my table none of which asked if I had been helped. The appetizers and meals were ordered again the food tastes great! We ordered a bottle of wine over $100 and when the server brought food out to our wobbly table the bottle dropped to the floor. He never apologized or even said a word to a manager. It was a disappointing experience.

Meh, wanted to give it a try because from the outside it’s beautiful! My wife and I love Italian food, so we went for our anniversary dinner. The food was very bland, except the clam chowder which was absolutely delicious, some of the veggies were undercooked and some were overcooked, either way there was no flavor. My wife’s pasta had no flavor, and our waitress wouldn’t even look me in the eye, she only addressed my wife, which irritated my soul. We had high hopes but unfortunately not what we expected.

N
Nicolas

The best word to describe my experience was disappointing. I was expecting more based on other reviews. Service was lacking, atmosphere was meh, and the food was hit or miss. 2 of our 6 people really liked their meals. The rest of the meals were much smaller and not as good as even olive garden.

R
Rose Werner

Took my boys out for a special dinner because we’ve heard so many great things about this place. Service was good but that was about it. Food was disappointing and for how it tasted the plates should have been $10-15 at most. The atmosphere gives off a run down vibe. Do better.

E
Emma Guest

worst food I’ve ever eaten. My boyfriend and I both took one bite of our food and couldn’t eat anymore. We sent the food back and left and still payed for something we didn’t even eat. We also got completely different things so it’s not like just one item was bad. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND GO HERE!!!!

B
Bob Kolouch

Extremely disappointing. Our reservation stated we could only stay for 90 min. So out of the gate they already imposed an expectation on us. Our reservation was for 8 pm. By 8:45 they were putting chairs on dining room tables and a little after nine they turned off the music. They put us in the position of being hurried. They were to be open from 5pm until 9:30pm and couldn’t even honor that. And then the food. Farm to table? My gnocchi bolognese had no meat and the sauce tasted like it was from a can of Chef Boyardee. The service was average which was the pinnacle of our experience. Menus were paper and stained. We will not return and we advise that there are much better options in Lafayette and West Lafayette.

H
Harry

The experience was awful. The two entree’s we ordered were horrid. My wife ordered a pasta with a lemon sauce with shrimp. The sauce was flavorless, the shrimp were rubbery, and exploded with liquid when she bit into one. It tasted as though the shrimp were old, previously frozen and spoiled. She took three bites and was done. I ordered eggplant parm, it came with ziti. The breaded coating was burnt and the eggplant was raw and rubbery, the plate was smothered in mozzarella cheese which hid the poorly plated meal. The portion of ziti was minimal and the sauce was tasteless. I did not eat any of it. I’m wondering if the food was properly cooked!! There should be an inspection done on the kitchen. Please don’t waste your money. We will never go back!!
