We went for breakfast and had a really nice experience! We both got lattes and they were delicious. I had the biscuits and gravy and a waffle and my wife had the breakfast burrito. Both were fantastic! The biscuit was a standout. It reminded me of a croissant, so delicious!! We would love to come back and try them for lunch and dinner.
Took my 3yr old for a little brunch outing after a Dr visit at the hospital just down the street. Fantastic BACON AND EGGS! How can I be raving about something so basic? I don’t even know! The eggs had a beautiful rich dark yolk and the bacon wasn’t over or under cooked. Had a nice deep flavor to it. Cup of fruit was delicious with everything ripe. Super friendly manager working the coffee machine and counter. Waitress was attentive. My daughter loved the eggs and the huge painting we were seated under. Casual atmosphere-seat yourself. Nice and clean. Will be back for more!
Stopped in for a 1st time visit to have breakfast. Nice space. Ordered the huevos rancheros burrito as well as The 39er. Fresh ingredients and really tasty. Brett waited on us and was very helpful, prompt, and informative. Intend to try again for lunch.
My favorite KC breakfast spot! Absolutely recommend the waffles with berry compote and the Brioche French toast. Delicious food, great service, and a perfect spot to meet up with friends over an amazing meal & drinks.
My only regret is not taking enough photos. One of the few farm to table restaurants in Kansas City. Which means they are adding new dishes in on the monthly basis! Food was delicious and priced fairly. Rusty and Hannah took care of us. We were grateful for such an amazing wine selection and 50% off bottles up to $150 on Mondays. So, naturally had to spoil ourselves with an Italy vs French pair up with a delicious Nebiolo and Burgundy Wine. Best wine in KC, plus they even have suggested pairings right on the menu. Gnocchi was highlight this time. Enjoyed a chill evening on the un-crowded yet quaint patio.
Food was outstanding! Steak and eggs Benedict and the biscuits and gravy are the way to go! Make reservations, as it gets busy. It's super loud in there so tell your old folks that are with you before you go.
This place was amazing! We did go at noon on Sunday without a reservation, but was still able to be seated for dining at the bar. Very cool and relaxed boho vibe. We ordered some coffee drinks and a freshly squeezed orange juice to start with. Entrees were the Salmon scramble, Goat cheese Gnocchi and the Chicken Liver on toasted crostini. If you like chicken livers at all, this was the absolute best I've ever had. The sauce was an excellent balance to the liver and it was cooked to perfection. Servers were on point, very friendly and attentive without being too much. This place is definitely a hidden gem and I can't recommend another local eatery better than this!
I like how right when you walk in the staff makes an effort to seat you whether you had a reservation or not. I do recommend a reservation because it gets busy! The food is good and there are great non-alcoholic drink options like kombucha.
I was a bit nervous about eating here after seeing some of the reviews. We were meeting old friends for the weekend and wanted a place for brunch for the 6 of us. We were seated right away and the service was great! The restaurant is pretty small but has a lot of personality and character. Plenty to choose from on the menu and no complaints from anyone. Great neighborhood with an amazing bookstore across the street and a lot of other interesting spots in the neighborhood. Looks like they also do lunch and dinner.
Amazing service, incredible food! Get reservations, especially on the weekend. Worth the wait!!!
Loved this place! We decided to try Room 39 based on other reviews we read. It was well worth it. The atmosphere is romantic but relaxing. My wife loved the table settings. The service was very good. Very friendly and attentive. We both had the filet with scalloped potatoes and brussel sprouts. The steak was cooked perfectly and so flavorful. The scalloped potatoes were the best I've ever had. I can't believe it took us so long to try this place, but it won't be the last.
We met our friends here for dinner. They are 30+ year residents and live by the Plaza. They had never heard of Room 39, which been in my bookmarks for over a year. We were going to a show at MTH and decided to meet here for dinner beforehand. We snagged at 5 PM reservation a few days before and were greeted warmly on a hot summer afternoon by the host. Our server was Alex and she was magnificent beyond words. Her service and insight were magical. With the deft touch, she guided us through the menu and answered all of our questions. We will most certainly ask for Alex when we return. You may wish to do the same. You will not be disappointed. We had some delicious appetizers, including their tasty crabcakes, and the Room 39 salad was nice. Very fresh ingredients and not swimming and dressing. My wife had the steak au poivre, which I got a few bites of and it was delicious! I had the gnocchi with pesto cream sauce, which was divine. One of our friends enjoyed the pasta carbonara very much, and her husband loved the halibut. They shared crème brûlée for dessert and we had the chocolate mousse. All four of us loved our desserts. We recognize that Room 39 is on par with some of the finest restaurants in Kansas City. It’s a smaller venue, but their service is impeccable and so is the food. It’s a farm to table restaurant so the menu rotates and changes with the seasons and availability of ingredients. I love that! We will most certainly return.
Great cozy lunch spot. We were welcomed by a friendly server. They have a really neat menu, a little something for everyone. The blended burger was amazing and the eggs and salmon did not disappoint.
Absolutely love this place! Such a cool atmosphere! Great food! Service was amazing! The menu is somewhat limited, but varied. We loved everything we tried! We parked on the street about a block away, it was a beautiful day out and was a nice little walk! Surrounded by little shops and cool things to check out before and after your meal. It was easy to hear my company as we talked amongst ourselves, the music was good though and the seating was comfortable. The place was clean, the bathrooms were great too! Absolutely recommend! If you are in Kansas City make a trip and check it out if it's not nearby!
One of my favorite restaurants in KC now. Saffron spritzer, crab cakes and goat cheese gnocchi with nettles! My partner had the lamb neck ragu. Absolutely amazing. The chef must be a real visionary.
I was sleep on Room39!!!! I was looking for a quick brunch after a long night and realizing I woke up too late from the daylight savings Spring Forward! I am notorious for googling new spots and throwing caution to the wind!!! Upon arrival I took note of the atmosphere which gave rustic meet distressed meet industrial warehouse someone lives upstairs type feel. We decided to belly up to the bar because what’s that expression about “hair of the dog?” The staff were attentive, communicative, friendly, and helpful when it came to their menu knowing we had never been before. Water was given immediately, drink orders taken, and the service was impeccable and timely, like within 8 mins of being seated timely! The food was hot, full of flavor, and beautiful presentation!!! I am always skeptical when I see such a great presentation because I brace myself in hopes that the flavors match and Room39 did not disappoint!!! I loved the artwork and the nice touch of Afred “Slick” Surrats portrait that hangs on the wall behind the bar. Of course I must come back for your dinner menu!!! Thank you for such a fabulous experience, you have no idea how much it meant to me!
This was the best food I've eaten in Missouri! Our family came here for brunch. My son had the Belgian waffles with a side of bacon, my husband had the salmon and eggs, and I had the croque madame. Everything was absolutely delicious. I was impressed with the organic hot tea selection and fresh squeezed lemonade with Pellegrino and they source their ingredients from local farms. It's in a cool old building with lots of funky, nostalgic touches. And our server was fantastic. I did remove one star because there was a large piece of art that was inappropriate for family dining, but otherwise it was a wonderful experience and I will definitely come back when in KC.
We Love this spot!! The food is amazing, the service is even better!!! The perfect timing lace for breakfast, lunch or Dinner!!!! A place that needs to be in you to go list for restaurants!! The dessert was FIRE!!! Perfect balance of sweet without being too sweet!!! Thank you
In KC for a vacation and went to Room 39 for breakfast. The restaurant has a great atmosphere even if slightly cramped. We made a reservation which was not required, but was a good call as the restaurant is not very big - when we got there, there was maybe 3 tables open inside and both outside tables were also open, but when we left only 1 table was open, so I would recommend making a reservation. My wife got the Artichoke Toast, I got the Croque Madame, and 1 of our teenage boys got the Waffles and the other got the Brioche French Toast. You know all were excellent when we were arguing about who had the best. I sampled them all and they were all great. One thing we all agreed on was that the breakfast potatoes were fantastic & I would recommend getting them with any order! The coffee was solid, not the best I've ever had but good and hot. All the meals were in the $12-$13 range and the drinks were $3.50 even the coffee, which I thought was a little high, but maybe not for KC. Overall it was an A+ experience and we would recommend eating here to anyone.
Came from out of town and was looking for a good brunch spot. Coffee was excellent, food was fantastic. It was so good we ended up coming back again right before leaving!
We had a great anniversary dinner tonight! Our server was so kind, the atmosphere was nice, and our meals were delicious. I would absolutely come back for the Goat Cheese Gnocchi. Great wine selection as well!
I love this place. Though parking was a little easier at the now-defunct location in Mission Farms, the original location on 39th Street does an excellent job of blending upscale dining with the neighborhood’s bohemian spirit. The menu is ever-shifting (often differing even from the restaurant’s own web site), but I’ve never gotten a bad dinner here. My most recent meal included soup, asparagus tempura and grilled shrimp. They also do a great job with cocktails. I started with a Spritz39 and then moved on to a Newly Fashioned, the latter of which was exceptionally strong. A quick caution for anyone bothered by noise: at peak times, things can get loud in here. But it’s easy enough to make a reservation for a slower spot in the schedule. The food, atmosphere and service are worth it in any event.
Love everything about this place! It’s not very big so we usually book a reservation. We’ve tried several items from their menu on different visits and all of it has been delicious.
Enjoyed this spot. Friendly staff too. I had the crab cakes and they were delightful. They had a constant flow of people there to enjoy their Sat Brunch menu.. Great neighborhood - super adorable craftsman homes! I went back with family and it was a stellar brunch experience again!
Year after year, Room 39 continues to *bring it*. I went for a weekday lunch who ordered the gnocchi (rich and incredibly delicious) the avocado toast (a solid brunch choice) and I got the biscuits & gravy (split of pork & mushroom gravy - the pork was the superior gravy). We sat on their little sidewalk patio and had great service. The bitters ice cream was incredibly delicious. Somehow the only photo I snagged of the experience was the tumeric ginger tea (also tasty). Will have to come back to get better pics!
Room 39 was the perfect spot for my only night in Kansas City. I made the mistake of deciding to go vegetarian, right before I visited a city famous for its bbq meat! So glad I found this gem of a restaurant. I had a perfect table by the window, with the radiator under the table making it cozy and toasty. The cocktails and dishes were fantastic - two Boulevardiers, a Brussels sprout soup, gnocchi with goat cheese, and the flourless chocolate cake with Earl Grey tea. My server Tory was terrific. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Yall need to LISTEN to me !!!!!👂🏿 Best brunch I’ve had in a long time !!! I will say the bacon 🥓 was a little too crispy but that’s because I’m used to fake bacon (turkey bacon) lol . The food was soooo good & the fresh orange juice?!? YASSSS ma’am is was so good !! I willll be back !!! For dinner ! Loved it and sat outside loveee the fall breeze !!! Everyone working there is so sweet !!
Had an absolutely lovely dinner here. I did the four course meal for $45 and on Monday it’s half off wine! They had a great vegetarian entree option. The food was fresh and flavorful. Our server was excellent. I would definitely come back here when in KC. I ate here with my colleague - there were many couples out on dates. Very cute restaurant with an excellent dining experience!
This place is amazing!! Second time visiting and it was just as delicious and stunning as the first time. I had the duck and my girlfriend had the peppercorn filet. The atmosphere is always warm and cozy and you're never rushed out. Some of the finer dining in KC. Enjoy
Came here for my birthday dinner! 🍴It’s a cute small place. No parking though so find some street parking! Haha. Rather small inside but it’s farm fresh food so it’s really good. The menu was super cool, looks like they change them out daily because they had todays date on the top! The mushroom soup was amazing. I got the garlic shrimp🍤 . The shrimps were huge and juicy. Yum. There was plenty. I was stuffed by the end of it. Lol the flavors were great too! We got three different desserts lol. The lemon 🍋 one was the best! And I’m not normally a lemon fan haha. But it was amazing. But all of them really did taste fantastic. We also got the crème brûlée 🎂and the bread pudding I believe… they even put a cute little birthday candle on it. Teehee. Super nice place. Rather expensive though! But overall great night for a fancy dinner! 👍
My sister recently ate here and suggested I check it out. The staff were friendly, the service was prompt, and the food was amazing. I had the croque madame and will definitely go back to try other things.
Room 39 is a gem on 39th street! Celebrated mother's day 2025 here and everything was delicious. Great service, as well!
Love Room 39. I always get the Chicken Livers. The service is the best. I got an Espresso Martini today. The best in the city.
The perfect neighborhood restaurant! Awesome, friendly service, an amazing happy hour that runs from 5 to 6:30 and their corned beef hash breakfast is one of the best plates in town. I hope it ends up on the permanent menu!
Great food. great ambiance. will be back time and time again.
Mid-week date. Definitely adding this place to the rotation. The layout seemed like it would be crowded once it filled up. The spacing works. Full tables and multiple conversions didn’t drown us out in the slightest. Plenty of space between tables to move if needed. Looks like they are very meticulous about cleaning. I ordered a Mijito and they were out of mint. The bartender made me an off menu cocktail instead and came over to make sure I liked it. I would order it again. Our server was very personable and seemed to have perfect timing on when to check on us. She gave us honest reviews and recommendations on ice cream parlors close by and all over area during the genuinely friendly stop & chats. Highly recommended.
Best breakfast in Kansas City! Absolutely delicious food, beautiful atmosphere, and kind and efficient staff. Their waffles are the best I’ve ever had!
What a gem! The food was indescribable excellent! Very flavorful and well-plated! The staff were so nice! What a wonderful accidental discovery! We will be back!! I love eating/ shopping local and this place is farm to table!
Haven't been in a while and I forgot what a great experience it was. Monday was half of bottles of wines. Bread service came with whole olives. Every course was wonderful. Most come back soon.
They gave me such a special experience on my birthday. The service was thoughtful, warm, and attentive. We only came for dessert, and the mousse was fantastic. It had great variation of texture with the crunchy bits on top, and the mousse itself was smooth and rich. I can't wait to return!
We went in on a Saturday for brunch with eight of us and we were able to be seated outside on a lovely day. The staff were very accommodating and put some extra tables together for us. We were able to order and our food and it came out pretty quickly and all at the same time so the table felt well taken care of. The food was good just a little basic in presentation. Would come again for home style and good vibes for a good price.
Amazing food and atmosphere! Service pretty good. When the waitress was taking our orders, she asked us if we wanted a salad w our meal like it came with it, and they were $12 a piece. Little deceiving. Reason for 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise definitely recommend.
Room 39 has excellent entrées on their menu. You could make your choice as light or as hefty as you prefer. I love their liver and mushroom gnocchi so much!! My daughter was in love with her breakfast potatoes 🥔
Great food, Mom and Pop type place. Very welcoming! Great service.
This place is so wholesome and always pleasant to visit. They have fresh food and excellent service. Their lunch menu is really nice and affordable. Some dinner menus on are questionable and ordinary for its price, but if you select well, they’re wonderful.
Cute small place. Staff very friendly and attentive. I ordered the Italian juice?, I c a nt remember the name it had no meat and feta cheese. It was made fresh to order. Alot of spinach and the flavors were just off. However the potatoes were spot on. Will go back, just try something different.
The service was good; we went about 1:30, got a table right away and our food was out fast. My sister loved her chicken salad sandwich with bacon and we liked both of the soups. My husband and I ordered the brioche French toast which had really no flavor to it (and they had no sugar-free syrup); the bacon and potatoes that came with it were very good! Our son ordered the biscuits and gravy and it was extremely bland. Breakfast is served until 3:00 everyday which was a plus for us. However, I would order the chicken salad next time and steer clear of the French toast until they add some flavor to it.
Tl;dr: nice staff! A for looks, B- for taste, C for value. Sit outside but you might get shot at. A foodie friend was in town and wanted to try some place that is a sort of hidden gem of KC. I've heard great things about Room39 so I got us reservations. Calling in to make a reservation a half hour before we planned to be there was easy. The gentleman on the phone was courteous and helpful. At the restaurant the serving staff let us choose to eat outside on the sidewalk. It was a very nice evening and enjoyable being out there instead of what appeared to be a dark and more intimate interior. Sitting outside had some downsides though. It felt like we were forgotten a bit and, at no fault of the restaurants, I did get shot by some gel pellets by some people driving by. Drinks - I asked for a recommendation between a couple choices and was recommended the hibiscus mocktail. It was alright. Nice color, decent flavor but a bit closer to bland-bitter than tart-sweet. My buddy ordered a couple cocktails. Something with orange peel and another based on the server's recommendation. He said both were awful. Food - I ordered the Pair of Spiced Quail (pictured) and he ordered the Filet au Poivre (refer to menu pic). He loved his meal! He said it was flavorful and not too spicy. The veg he enjoyed. But mostly the green peppercorn cream. However, he did expect more steak for the price he paid and it was a bit over cooked than what he asked for. The Pair of Quail were nicely seasoned and very well cooked. The farro and sorghum were great! I could have eaten that quail by itself without the sauce and it would have been brilliant. In fact, I should have eaten it without the harissa because that, for me, ruined the dish. The harissa teased me with smoky, spicy possibilities but it was a huge let down. There was no spice to it. There was flavor communicating spice should be here, but I was just left with sweetness throughout. I kept trying it hoping the spice would kick in but it never did. I'm not sure how they made their harissa but it just tasted like chili powder, paprika and brown sugar. Pretty to look at, not enjoyable to eat. Dessert - the creme brulee (pictured), the custard was too thick, too warm, the raspberry had no flavor: not sweet, not tart, nothing. Nice caramel on top; good crack, not burned. I should have taken my $9 and bought the ingredients to do it myself.
Overall, Room 39 has a lot going for it in terms of atmosphere but here are a few feedback points on service and food to take them from good to great. At this price point, there are other restaurants in the area the do it better for the same price. The food should taste better for a $200 meal. -Space dishes out more when guests order all at once. We asked it to be paced but we finished our courses in under 45mins. -The bolognese lacked salt - The cod was perfectly cooked but came out cold - The risotto lacked richness. Needed more fat and seasoning. - Drinks were good (We had wine and a Black Manhattan) but the timing was off. We ordered drinks well before our dessert so it was disappointing to have to wait until halfway through eating dessert for the drink. The bar was not busy at this time.
After years of going to the location in Mission Farms, I went out to the original establishment on Friday evening with a couple friends. The drinks were good, but I was rather unimpressed with the food. The salad I had was quite small and the portion of duck that I had was not a full “magret” but rather two small slices of meat. After having three courses, I was still hungry and with two cocktails, spent over $100 on dinner for myself. It was quite disappointing.
