Excellent food served at Hawksmoor Liverpool! We stopped for lunch mid-week in January and the restaurant was full. People taking advantage of the outstanding value lunch offer. A sophisticated vibe from being greeted at reception extends to the restaurant. Beautiful decor, a range of tables from banquettes to round tables, elegantly laid ready for diners. We selected a mackerel and new potato salad starter ( from the lunch offer menu). Potatoes were warm complimenting the delicious smoked mackerel and leaves. The Hake with a peppers and basil was divine! The steak served medium rare was perfectly cooked. Both mains came with chips which were delicious. We chose a glass of wine and a cantaloupe cocktail (delicious, perfect for a hot summer’s day). Great, friendly, attentive service from our waiter Beau. I know it’s only January, but I have to conclude…. “meal of the year!”

Stunning surroundings in the wonderful India Buildings, especially in the Martini bar. We went to celebrate my eldest daughter's birthday. Enjoyed excellent Martinis before we ate. We went mid afternoon, so it wasn't too busy; mainly late lunchers and a few taking advantage if the early evening set menu. Food as expected was excellent, the steak wonderfully seasoned and perfectly cooked. We opted for the set menu and all three of us opted to upgrade to the fillet. Pimped with communal mac 'n' cheese and bone marrow gravy. Delish!!! and very handsomely rounded off with some great Shiraz and STP and Black Forest Pavlova desserts. Homely atmosphere and the usual attentive and friendly Hawksmoor service. Alround supurb experience. Photos by Liv x

This Christmas we wanted to do something special for our mum as we lost our dad last year so there wasn't much celebrating for us. We came to Hawksmoor Liverpool on 13th Dec and the team went so far above and beyond anything we expected. Our hosts and server were absolutely lovely, thank you so much Ruby & Cassie. They surprised my mum with a beautiful bunch of festive flowers and a personalised Christmas card designed just for her, signed by every member of staff wishing her a lovely Christmas. The food was outstanding. We shared the Chateaubriand and it was honestly the best steak we’ve ever had - and our mum is from New York, so we know a good steak!!! To top it all off, the team brought out the peanut butter shortbread dessert with a message from our dad written in chocolate. It was so thoughtful and emotional in the best way. It was a perfect evening and meant more to us than we can put into words. We’re so grateful to everyone at Hawksmoor and can’t wait to come back!!!

Unparalleled experience. The service was impeccable , everyone was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu when we had questions. The passion for serving outstanding food was clear. The food itself was amazing. You could tell the care and love that went into making in all our starters, main and desserts. The steak was cooked to perfection and sides complimented it perfectly. I would recommend Hawksmoor to make any celebration an unforgettable one.

Go to hawksmoor once a month if possible, it’s the best restaurant in Liverpool! The scallops are unreal. Usually get the steak but tried the big Matt burger, you won’t get a better burger anywhere! Staff are very friendly. Great vibe always book as it’s busy which is a sign of a good restaurant.

Wow wow wow, why’ve I not been here before, it was perfection, the staff as you walk in to take your coats, the restaurant itself was absolutely stunning, it was an old bank converted so it had all the original features, stunning architecture, the staff were so nice , very cool and interesting bunch of people. Now the food…absolutely unreal , I had a roast beef dinner it was sensational, perfecto, followed by sticky toffee pudding and to drink a pineapple soda. Honestly just everything was unreal.

The service at Hawksmoor was amazing! Couldn’t have looked after us better, they even went to the trouble of giving us a map of Liverpool and highlighting cafes to visit on our way back to town after discussing our afternoon plans. Me and my boyfriend had such a lovely time and the food and drinks were 10/10. The lunchtime menu is such good value for money. Super impressed, we will definitely be returning and recommending it to family & friends.

The staff were so kind and friendly, Shoutout Cameron especially for being part of such a positive experience. The food was absolutely stunning, we had the potted beef yorkshire pudding for a starter which was filling enough to be a starter and main to be honest. Portion was great and tasted so flavourful. Cocktails were beautiful, they also made me a cosmopolitan on request which I always appreciate. The main didn’t look like it would be enough to fill me up but I was definitely wrong, I couldn’t finish it all, the steak was absolutely gorgeous and so was the chips and salad. It was my birthday weekend and they had said to my friend they could bring me out a desert with candles and music but my friend knew I was shy so i opted out and got another cocktail instead. Was so pleased to see that they brought out my cocktail on a little plate with chocolate writing saying happy birthday. This was such a nice touch and truly made it such a positive dining experience. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the ambience is lovely, felt like very high class dining with a very affordable set menu for the value of the food. Everyone was lovely so I couldn’t recommend this place enough if you want a nice classy, tasty meal on a budget.

A Memorable Dining Experience - Delicious Food & Genuine Service We had a fantastic time dining here - from start to finish, everything was spot on. The food was absolutely delicious. The steak stood out in particular - incredibly tender, perfectly seasoned, and served with some of the tastiest sauces we've had in a long time. The chips were hands-down the best we've tried - crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, just how they should be. Starters and dessert were lovely with flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. Every course made us feel good - comfort food done with real skill. The atmosphere had an old-school charm with nice tables and classic touches. All the staff were incredibly professional, friendly, and attentive without being fake - you could tell they genuinely cared about the service. If there’s anything that could be improved, it would be the entrance area - it doesn’t quite reflect the warmth and quality of what’s inside. Adding a few period-appropriate tunes could also enhance the overall vibe and complement the classic style nicely. All in all, a fantastic experience - we’ll definitely be returning!

We had our first year anniversary meal here in July and it was the most special evening - we’d been waiting to come all year. The servers were all so attentive and helpful and really invested in the food/experience. We were served by ?Beau I think! He was excellent!!! We were talked through the menu and all our questions were answered honestly and in a helpful manner - all of the food we got was absolutely stunning and Beau helped us pick the right portion sizes and explained the menu. The whole experience was made really special for us, we got a free dessert and a cocktail to try - we loved it! Thank you guys.

Absolutely the best experience I’ve ever had. I came here for my anniversary with my boyfriend and every single thing was perfect. The food was delightful and every bite was a piece of heaven. The service was excellent and Petra was wonderful to us and served us all night with kindness. Kudos to every member of staff as it was the best night of my life.

Lily was a great server, food was on point as always , we were a little late and were not felt to be rushed, atmosphere was buzzing and the location iconic. Catered well for our 4 and 6 year old

Everything about Hawksmoor is absolutely amazing from the beautiful setting to the cosy relaxed atmosphere. All the staff are friendly, welcoming & attentive. The menu selection is excellent and the food was superb and cooked to perfection. My first visit and can't wait to dine here again.

The best meal of my life! My wife and I visited Hawksmoor while on our mini-moon, booking a couple of hours before we went. When we arrived they had printed a custom menu for us with congratulations on our honeymoon printed on it, they gave us a complimentary drink to celebrate and wrote a message of "Happy Honeymoon" on the tray that our after dinner whiskeys were served on. The staff were attentive and lovely, the atmosphere was calm and sophisticated but welcoming. The food was absolutely incredible, we shared the scallops to start and a chateaubriand for our main with sides of tunworth mash (delicious, cheesy mash), garlic mushrooms and beef dripping fries. The steak was so tender, it felt easier to cut through than the mushrooms, cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious, it paired beautifully with a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. We will definitely be returning here, it is the best steak we've ever had and overall we had such a lovely evening.

Probably been about 4-5 times in the last 2 years and it’s consistently exceptional. I have never had a bad meal here. The staff and food service is excellent. Myself and my friends are into our wine and one of the main things that draws us back is the corkage, but they also have a great wine list - which pair perfectly with the contrasting seafood heavy starters and steaks for mains. Easily the best (steak) restaurant in Liverpool. One musn’t forget to mention the building - what an unbelievable transformation of a listed building space - in particular the bar area is just magical.

From the moment we stepped into the foyer, we were met with warm smiles and promptly shown to our table. Daniel, the manager, personally welcomed us and took the time to chat, which immediately set a friendly tone for the evening. The dining room had a lively atmosphere with a wonderful festive, Christmas feel. I chose the fillet while my wife opted for the sirloin, both cooked medium rare, and we paired them with triple-cut chips, creamed spinach, garlic mushrooms, and macaroni cheese. The fillet was a generous portion, cooked perfectly and full of flavour, while the sirloin was equally well-seasoned and expertly prepared. The chips were outstanding — crispy, triple-fried, and rich with that unmistakable beef-dripping flavour. Overall, the experience more than lived up to expectations, with excellent food and great service throughout. A big thank you to Dan and the entire team for making us feel so welcome — and a special mention to the Shaky Pete cocktail, which certainly added an extra spark to the night.

Took my parents as a celebration and as usual everything was fantastic! Certainly not the cheapest place to go but everything is high quality and the steaks were cooked to perfection (450g sirloin). Top tip: when asked if you want water, make sure to specify tap water otherwise it’s £6 a bottle.

Hawksmoor always delivers, no matter the city! Been to Liverpool for today’s birthday visit and they were locked right in. Perfect visit, keep up the good work guys. Presentation is super simple but the flavour and craftsmanship behind the cooking, next level.

My wife and I celebrated 35 years together and I decided to book Hawksmoor for our special dinner. I emailed requesting a nice table and advised that another couple would be joining us. I received a courteous and prompt response from Wiktoria advising that she had noted our anniversary and would do her best to ensure a special dinner. We arrived at Hawksmoor and were very warmly greeted just inside the entrance where our coats were taken and we were subsequently escorted to our table. Another couple that were joining us were already seated and had drinks in hand. The table was superb. A wonderful private area that allowed conversation to flow nicely. I stuck with Hawksmoor IPA s I had considered enough champagne earlier in the day... The beer was crisp, light and tasty which went well with my dinner which consisted of a half lobster to start and a rib-eye (med, 350g) as a main. All the food was delicious and my steak was cooked perfectly as requested. The service was outstanding. We had multiple staff serving us at various times throughout the dinner. Every single one was courteous, professional and proficient. The entire experience was very memorable. I was so taken by the experience that I was prompted to speak with the manager (Benedetta) to pass along my positive opinions regarding the meal and service. Overall a very special dinner and we will certainly be back again.

A fantastic evening with outstanding service and smiles all round from the host to the service staff. The team went above and beyond to make an anniversary incredibly memorable with a personalised printed menu and so much more. The food was fantastic, scotch bonnet oysters are a must! An honourable mention to Helena the sommelier - hospitality at its finest.

This was our 2nd visit to a Hawksmoor after visiting the Dublin one a few weeks before. Both visits were in Sunday for their Sunday lunch. The food was amazing and would highly recommend it. For my wife's birthday and we were treated to some delicious warm freshly baked cookies as a surprise as well. My only grump would be them adding a £20 service charge onto the bill, this is optional but I just wish restaurants wouldn't try and add this on and make people feel awkward about asking for it to be removed. We don't live in the USA and service is included in the price already or the prices would be much cheaper, we paid just under £50 per person and had 1 drink each and a few sides, it's just a way for restaurants to try and make more money out of hard working people. The Dublin Hawksmoor didn't do it so not sure why this one does. Apart from that we had a great time and would highly recommend paying it a visit!

We took a chance to have Sunday Roast and it was great, fod was delicious. Staff are well-trained and friendly. This building is an old Lloyd's Bank building with very beautiful interior architecture.

Was treated by my son and it never let us down. We cracked open a bottle of champagne Hiedseck,I apologise if the spelling is wrong. It was light crisp and not too dry. Our waitress was Ruby, what a lovely girl, with exceptional product knowledge. She was attentive but not invasive. For starters I had Scallops baked in their shells and David had a dozen oysters, Presentation was superb and they were delectable. For mains I had a rib eye and David had a fillet, with roasted beef marrow and sprouts with chestnuts. We both had chips and I have never had better ones any where. We have all had triple cooked chips but these were finished in beef dripping. They were Michelin star standard and I am positive that they could not be bettered. David had a sticky toffee pudding and I had a sticky toffee sundae which was utterly delightful. Hawksmoor a name to remember after a meal I could never forget

Although not my favourite steak restaurant in Liverpool. This is an extremely close second. The service is always amazing and the food is top notch. The only downside is the price. You can get the same quality food if not better at better value elsewhere. This is my own personal preference though. This place must be tried at least once. The staff and atmosphere are very nice. And the food will not disappoint as long as you have the wonga. 🤑

Wonderful meal, we did the January deal and were so impressed with the food. Love the vibe in there and how the decor has leaned into the old bank theme with green leather and large orb lights. Lovely staff, perfectly cooked steak, great Sauv blanc and near the right atmosphere to chat and catch up with friends.

It’s only January and we have already had our meal of the year. Fabulous food served by Cassie who is an absolute gem, so friendly and welcoming, she made our day. Everything was perfect from the moment we were greeted at the door and had our coats taken right through to when we left, we honestly couldn’t find anything to criticise. If you haven’t been what are you waiting for, get it booked ! Thank you to all at Hawksmoor for a lovely birthday lunch x

Had a meal today with my wife for our anniversary as always the food was great. I don't normally write reviews but felt the need to because of our waiter Charlie who looked after us this evening. He made our meal, An absolute asset to hawksmore, he was attentive and on point, even got me some bone marrow to go with my steak without asking but listening to what we like and he was right just elevated the steak to another level. Thank you Charlie and we look forward to coming again and again!

Fantastic atmosphere and great service. Did the all day set menu, my steak was a bit grisly but the staff were so kind and quickly replaced it and all the sides and the new one was so yummy and tender. Definitely recommend for date night or family dinner vibes!

My partner and I enjoyed a birthday celebration meal. The food was fantastic however the service was above and beyond. We were greeted with a warm welcome and a visit from the sommelier, who of which was super informative and helpful when choosing our wine. The whole atmosphere was comforting but also refined. We had a flawless evening.would definitely recommend and will be visiting again. And a special mention to Jamie our waiter. Many thanks to the whole team at hawksmoor Liverpool.

We visited to celebrate our anniversary and had booked a table in advance. Overall, the food and service were very good, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout. The grilled scallops were a particular highlight. However, as it was a special occasion, it was a little disappointing that there was no acknowledgement of the anniversary. Restaurants of a similar standard often offer a small gesture, such as a complimentary glass of fizz or a dessert, which adds to the sense of occasion, and this was missing here. All in all, it was an enjoyable meal, but for future celebrations we may look for somewhere with a bit more of a special-occasion feel.

J
Joel Bantick

The food at hawksmoor is great the potted beef the steak and the desert were great. The waitress was nice and explained the restaurant and the atmosphere was great the building is lovely. The let down for us was the service we ordered sides but they never arrived and couldn’t really grab anyone to say about it also when it came to the bill we wanted to pay and get out but ended up waiting 30 mins and asking twice to pay before just having to get up and pay which was frustrating

Hawksmoor Liverpool proves that fine dining doesn’t have to come with a fine dining price tag. Set in a beautifully restored building just off Castle Street, it’s the kind of place that feels special the moment you walk in – all warm lighting, polished wood, and that low hum of content diners. For £19.50, the two-course menu was exceptional from start to finish. The Hawksmoor Caesar was everything a proper Caesar should be – crisp, cold lettuce, a punchy anchovy dressing, and plenty of parmesan. Simple, classic, and perfectly done. The roast hake with vinegar peppers was even better: beautifully cooked fish with flaky flesh and golden edges, paired with tangy peppers that lifted the whole dish. The buttered greens on the side were fresh, vibrant, and indulgent without being heavy. Service was friendly and attentive without hovering, and the restaurant itself had that signature Hawksmoor warmth – elegant but comfortable. At under £20 for food of this standard, it’s outstanding value. I’d go back in a heartbeat to try the rest of the menu – though I was disappointed to see they’ve taken the baked sweet potato off the menu! One star removed! Bring back the sweet potato!

S

Really nice overall experience, gravy was a bit runny for my liking but still very tasty, and the rest was spot on. The restaurant was busy but in a nice way and with a good atmosphere, luckily we were sat at the back so it wasn't too loud. Staff was very helpful and pleasant, definitely coming back again.

A vibrant steak place upon entering the restaurant Ordered a 450g steak to share between adult and a child. Steak was well cook on medium, oyster with bone marrow was good. Still warm when serve and could feel the juiciness of the oyster on eating. Delicious. Fries were a little disappointing as it was too dry. Could not feel the potato like. Nice and vibrant environment but the noise level can be kind of loud where it is difficult to hear any conversation as the seating arrangement is close.

Food was lovely. The starter was too big really , which had an effect on being able to complete main course. The service was very good and attentive. Atmosphere was good , very busy. We took advantage of the January special deal and so it was very much value for money.

J
Jason Anderson

The food is lovely, great steak and cooked perfectly, slightly confusing with how things are priced and what sides to have, it's difficult to judge food sizes and the waiter was not fully clear on an ideal or suitable order. We had a great welcome at reception and a nice touch with the happy birthday menus. The restaurant was ok at first as it was fairly early but got quite noisy as it got busy, the music is quite loud and is not a relaxing experience. As someone who does not dink alcohol it was disappointing to not see a good choice of non alcoholic drinks for a fancier place so ordered soft drinks instead. We were not offered another drink throughout the meal. We expected a longer wait for mains as the steak is cooked properly, however after the mains there was quite a long wait between the table being cleared and the dessert menu being offered, after getting the dessert menu there was little choice that took our fancy so decided to head off to find dessert elsewhere, therefore we asked for the bill. I found it odd that instead of bringing the bill the waiter carried on to serve other tables. We realised the reason when a small dish of 3 small biscuits was dropped on the table with a candle in them, a nice little touch for my birthday but done a bit haphazardly. Still no sign of the bill we asked again as by now we just wanted to leave and enjoy desserts elsewhere, when the sever provided the bill it was a piece of paper asking for a donation, getting frustrated now by waiting we asked again for the actual bill. When that arrived it had a beer added to it that we did not order, the server rectified this quickly but still provided the bill with a 12.5% service charge. I requested the charge to be removed as we did not feel that it was deserved after having to wait so long after the meal for further service, no additional drinks being offered and for the issues, when asking for this the servers attitude changed and we immediately felt unwelcome. Overall was a disappointing experience to what should have been a nice birthday meal out. We would not go back, for the price it should have been much better and the service should be very good if expecting a service charge to be paid or just because of the type of restaurant it should have been better. The high quality of the food does not match the quality of service.

M
Miranda Berridge

Very disappointing burgers. In a steak restaurant, I expect something impressive from the house burger and not least to be asked how I'd like my burger cooked. Instead, the burger came as two thin patties on a dry brioche bun with a few bits thrown in - nothing special at all, we buy better burgers from a regular supermarket when we host a bbq. And why serve the burger with a steak knife? Underwhelming culinary experience for this 3-course early dinner set menu. Guess we need to pay the extra tenner for the fillet plus four quid for the sauce to experience Hawksmoor properly. If we come again. Won't be rushing back to a Hawksmoor any time soon. Good service and beautiful setting.

Been to Hawksmoor loads of times never had a bad meal there. So my sister decided that for her birthday we would go for lunch. She had never been but because I recommended it so highly she wanted to try for herself. We had the lunch offer, she paid extra for the sirloin steak. She likes it really well done - no pink at all. The steaks came and to be honest mine was tough. It was cooked well but because of the cut of the steak I struggled to cut it. When the server came over to ask if everything was ok I was going to tell him that no it wasn’t but my mouth was full and I didn’t really want to upset my sister by complaining. Her steak had bits of pink in it so I don’t think she was really enjoying hers either. I was so disappointed. I know they are doing a cheap lunch but to be fair if you are going to do this then make sure the quality of beef served is not below par because of this. I was asked if I would go back again given this experience. I did hesitate which is a shame because I’ve always enjoyed the Hawksmoor experience

C

Steak was honestly great. Waiter was a really lovely guy but the service was really lacking. Waited over 10 mins on more than two occasions for a glass of wine. The mains took 20-30 mins to come and had to ask for a dessert menu twice cause they kept forgetting our requests. Not what you expect for such an expensive restaurant.

C
Caroline

Upon entering the building there were 3 people on reception one of whom didn’t acknowledge us or smile, the other looked up and said hello but no warmth and only the third was welcoming. First impressions are so important. We presented our coats and were led to our table. The first staff member to approach was friendly and efficient, gave us our menus and told us someone would be along shortly. The tables are crammed very closely together so it felt like you couldn’t have a conversation without the person next to you listening. Our next waiter was great, knowledgable and friendly giving recommendations and was a nice guy. We ordered vintage champagne which was very nice and the starters were great, scallops and beef marrow, the steak was cooked correctly however mine was a little chewy and dry so I couldn’t eat it. We wanted desert but service was really slow. When we were done and ready to leave there were no staff anywhere. We waited and in the end I had to go to the cloakroom to notify them we wanted to pay and were ready to leave. Not worth the £300 price tag. I expected far better.

T
Tebs

Doesn't liveup to the hype. Lovely building but not conducive to having a conversation with your partner as it was very noisy. Food was ok. Waiter seemed disinterested. Wine waiter was the exception, lovely and truly engaging. Very expensive for what it is. £9 for chips! The extras and the service fee stack up. I'd not repeat the experience.
