Absolutely fantastic! The Fish & Chips were excellent—the batter was perfectly crispy and delicious. It was a delightful experience from start to finish. Also, David provided top-notch service and made us feel very welcome. Highly recommended!
Had a great time! Been coming back to this location whenever we visit London and never been disappointed. Friendly staff (I forgot her name on the picture), great fish & chips, comfortable space, positive vibes and great value.
This little place was great. The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. My husband had the fish and chips and I had a pie. Both were so good. Cooked fresh and fast. This place has a 60s diner theme. Worth checking out!!
Great fish & chips experience. The fish was perfectly cooked — crispy on the outside and soft, delicate on the inside. The regular portion is generous and easily enough to fill you up. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was pleasant. A great place to enjoy a classic British meal. Definitely recommend.
We ate there at the restaurant and the truth is that the quality was excellent. I think they are the real fish and chips since you can feel the native flavor different from traditional markets. I must say that I tried it in markets and the flavors have nothing to do with what I tried here. The best by far. We paid for two dishes and two sparkling waters a total of 57 pounds. The average price of the dishes if you eat there is 18/20 pounds per person. You also have the option of getting delivery right next door and paying less for it.
It’s been several months since my trip, but seeing my photo gallery reminded me to leave this review. This was my first meal in the UK and also my very first fish and chips. The excellent fish and chips I had here made me travel across the country in search of more great ones. The ale I had here was also comparable to the beers I’ve enjoyed in Germany. Even though I was dining alone, the service was incredibly friendly.
Poppies was a great place to try fish and chips. Huge serving fed two - and we still couldn't finish it all. Love the separate take away door entrance and counter.
I recently visited Puppies, Fish & Chips in downtown London, and it turned out to be one of the best casual dining experiences I’ve had in the city. This cozy spot captures the charm of traditional British fish and chips. The fish was perfectly golden and crispy on the outside, with tender, flaky meat inside, and the chips were thick, hot, and just the right amount of salty. They also serve smaller “bites” for those who want to try a variety of flavors—these were equally delicious, especially the lightly battered calamari. The atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, with friendly staff who were happy to recommend their favorites. Even though it was busy, service was quick and efficient, and everything tasted fresh. I also appreciated that they seemed to care about sourcing quality ingredients, which really showed in the flavor. Downtown London has many fish and chip shops, but this one stands out because it manages to feel both authentic and inventive. Whether you’re a tourist looking for a taste of classic Britain or a local who just wants a reliably tasty meal, Puppies, Fish & Chips is worth the stop.
We had an amazing experience at this restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious!✨ The staff were incredibly kind and went out of their way to accommodate us in every possible way. They truly made us feel at home. I can’t recommend this place enough — it’s an absolute must-visit if you’re in London!🥰
Went there thinking was just a little kiosk, but we really afterwards you can sit and have a table, the place is big. Food-wise mmmm man! That fish and chips was so good! 💯 guaranteed
We had fish and chips and it was excellent. The fish was very soft and perfectly cooked inside, with a crispy batter outside. Everything was fresh and delicious.
One of the best fish and chips in town for sure! And the calamari rings… wow fresher than fresh! Loved it! Thanks for the great service Amithab! Everyone, come check them out!
Loved the place. Brilliant atmosphere and lively music. Staff were kind enough to let me bring home the sauce jar! Food was amazing and fish was fresh, fries were crispy and had a slight salty taste.
Small fish and chips chain in London area. Known for one of the better fish and chip restaurants, but a bit pricer than the competition…but well worth it. Multiple fish varieties to chose from including Cod and Haddock. I prefer the haddock, but due to its thin fillet, it almost always comes with the skin on. Picky eaters can put the skin down and just eat off the top, which gives you more than enough breading. Chips are excellent. I believe they are par fried as they have a wonderful, crunchy texture, and a bit thicker than a traditional french fry. Give this place a try and you won’t be sorry. I would recommend eating it, I thought there was plenty of seating available.
A nice fish & chips in the heart of Soho. I was there with a big group, and our waitress Bhanuja was very helpful and attentive!
It was lovely place, you should definitely try fish and chips, the waiters were super friendly and the service was good.
It was a 10/10 experience, especially the quality of service and the freshness of the products were evident. I felt right at home, and I would especially like to thank Burak and Toruncan.
Heard a lot about this place so wanted to give it a try. The place is packed and buzzing with patrons. The staff are helpful and attentive. Food was good but nothing amazing. Good batter, lovely fish. Our fish was not hot hot but it was okay. I still like having fish and ships in a paper tray and picking it up with wooden forks.
What an absolute treat! Hands down the best fish and chips I’ve had in London — golden, crispy batter and beautifully fresh fish, just as it should be. The pub had such a warm, inviting atmosphere, and the staff were genuinely lovely. Friendly smiles, great service, and proper comfort food. Can’t wait to pop back in next time I’m in town!
I had a blast at Poppies, Fish and Chips in Soho! The atmosphere is lively and fun, perfect for a casual meal out. The fish & chips were incredibly juicy and the fish was delightfully crispy and fresh. However, I’d steer clear of the deep fried cod roe; it wasn’t to my taste. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable experience overall!
we had a great time in London and tried Poppies Fish and Chips. So tasty!! A big thanks to Haritha she helped us choosing the perfect dish. Also she was very polite and cute ❤️ Till Next timeeee
Everything was perfect, the waitress Latha Kamma recommended us the Haddock and it was honestly the best option. She was so kind and super gentle! Best place to take the classic fish and chips!
Poppies delivers exactly what proper fish & chips should be. The fish was perfectly fried – golden, light, and crisp on the outside, juicy on the inside. No greasy aftertaste, no soggy coating, just clean, fresh crunch. The chips were spot on too: fluffy inside, firm outside, not limp or tired. The whole plate felt cared for, not rushed. This isn’t “tourist fish & chips” – it’s the real deal. If comfort food had standards, this would be it.
We had such a wonderful experience at Poppies Fish & Chips! The fish was incredibly fresh with a light, crispy batter, and the chips were perfectly golden and flavorful. The nostalgic retro vibe, paired with genuinely warm and attentive service, made the whole visit feel special. It’s the kind of place you instantly want to come back to. Truly a standout spot for an authentic yet elevated fish & chips experience in the West End.
Very nice fish and chips place in soho, I think that’s the best fish and chips one can find here around and the service (especially haritha!) is very lovely. The haddock is just so flaky and soft it melts in your mouth and the batter very crunchy. Would definitely come back :)
London has a flavour for me — and it’s called Poppies. Three visits in a row, and every single time that same feeling: this is exactly where you want to be. Twice the classic — perfectly crispy haddock, golden and tender, simply spot on. And today: scampi and calamari rings — fresh, delicate, and full of flavour. You can taste the top quality in every bite, and the value for money is outstanding, which makes the whole experience even better. And then the service: genuinely warm, attentive, and incredibly friendly. Your glass is never empty — they seem to know exactly when to appear with a smile, making you feel less like a guest and more like a regular who truly belongs. There are places you visit. And there are places you return to because of how they make you feel. For me, London isn’t just a city. It’s a plate, a moment, a smile — London is Poppies.
The fish and chips were absolutely delicious! The fish was fresh, perfectly cooked, and the batter was crispy without being too greasy. The portion size was generous and very satisfying. I would also like to highlight the excellent service from Bhanuja. She was very friendly, attentive, and professional, making sure everything was perfect throughout the meal. Her warm attitude really enhanced the overall dining experience. I highly recommend this place and will definitely come back!
Perfect place for a fish & Chips With a kind service from the entire team members. Liked the atmosphere and the place itself. My little concern is about the ventilation system. It would be more better to have more ventilation to avoid the cooking process. The rest is well done indeed.
Poppie’s Soho: A Buzzing Bite of Brilliance Poppie’s Fish & Chips in Soho is pure London magic—retro vibes, tiled walls, and a Friday night crowd so lively it hums like a beehive. The line out the door? A dead giveaway for top-notch taste; locals and visitors alike can’t get enough. I dove into the haddock supper: flaky, fresh fish in shatteringly crisp batter, paired with fluffy chips and those dreamy mushy peas—creamy, mint-kissed perfection that ties it all together without a soggy note. At £20 with zesty tartare, it’s comfort food elevated. The calamari stole the show, though—tender rings in light, seasoned flour with a lemony lift, dipping divinely into that sauce. Generous portions, no chewiness, just joy. Swift, smiling service keeps the chaos fun. Poppie’s nails tradition with flair—head here for London’s best chips. 5/5, plotting my return already.
We were traveling from the US and wanted to try a place that specializes in fish and chips. Overall The food was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. Highly recommend the haddock over the cod!
I ate HADDOCK at Poppies Fish & Chips in London and had Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert. The fish was very juicy and fresh, but the batter had absorbed a bit too much oil. Therefore, I recommend waiting a few minutes before you start eating, otherwise you might burn your mouth. The fries were simple and tasty, and ketchup was available on every table. They also served a small jar of sauce; it was mayonnaise-like but not as oily as mayonnaise. It contained different herbs. I expected it to have a unique, fresh flavor, but I didn’t get that impression. In my mind, it was supposed to have a stronger garlic flavor and a fresher taste from the herbs inside. The presentation was nice, but I couldn’t reach the taste I had imagined. I ordered a large portion, but a regular size would have been enough because after a while, the oil absorbed by the fish and batter becomes a bit overwhelming. As for the dessert, it was a moist, cake-like sweet but with a thicker, stickier texture. I think this dessert can only be enjoyed properly with ice cream. The ice cream somewhat reduces the heaviness of the dessert. The sauce reminded me of a traditional flavor I’ve had before — like molasses with burnt butter on top. The sauce alone was tasty. The presentation, the venue, and the staff were all quite good.
Probably the best fish and chips I’ve had in London. I chose to take away so had the £6 deal of 3 scampi bits and chips, honestly probably the best battered scampi I’ve had - it was thin and crispy exactly how I like it. The staff cooked my meal from fresh due to allergies and I really appreciate that, reason I dropped a star is the condiment prices - £1 for a ketchup sachet is insane! But I guess that’s also London prices 🫠
I visited this fish and chips restaurant last night. The place has a nostalgic atmosphere dating back to 1956, which adds a nice touch. Service was average, and the food was good. We arrived late, so the kitchen was almost closed — I only got to try the fish and chips, which were tasty. I’d give it 4 stars overall.
When in London, eat like a Briton. One of my first stops was to try a fish and chips that London is famous for besides Patrick Stewart. And was not disappointed. The fish, was amazing , we got the different fish to sample and it was all delicious. Must put malt vinegar on the chips or go home. The service was extremely nice and helpful, quick and responsive. A fantastic food experience.
oddly cant book on the day itself or too close to eating timing. might be new to london's scene but thot it wld be more helpful to close off the bookings for the day itself if it wont be honoured but beyond that, batter was crispy. seafood was fresh. needed to salt your own chips.
The fish & chips here is excellent. Fishes are caught at 1am, reaching the restaurant at 7am & ready to be served at 11am. We were lucky that the halibut was available today, the fish was super fresh, though the flesh was a bit dry which is typical of this fish, I could savour the intensity of the natural savoury taste from the fish. Every mouthfeel was very satisfying. As for the Haddock, texture more flaky, juicy, moist, smooth, the taste was creamy with a simpler fresh fish taste compared to the Halibut. One must try side is the mushy bean which was really tasty. The homemade tartar sauce was also excellent. Definitely recommended!!
This place is a must try if you’re looking to try out a classic fish and chips. It has a charming ambience reminiscent of an old diner. You can choose between cod and haddock (and a few more others but I wasn’t able to take a photo of the menu). It’s cheaper to order for takeout than dine in but we wanted to enjoy our first fish and chips fresh so we opted to dine in. Our fish came our perfectly cooked, batter was crispy yet the fish inside remained juicy. It’s a tad bit under seasoned for me but nothing a sprinkle of salt and malt vinegar couldn’t fix. As you can see in the photos, the portions are huge! Unless you came with an appetite, one order could easily feed two so bear that in mind. 9/10 highly recommended
The fish and chips (haddock & halibut) were tasty and cooked well as were the fries. Regular order is sufficient size. The service was good. It was busy with many people (tourists) likely a result of all such reviews. Checked the box.
They are well known by their fish&chips so this is what we took. It was good and tasty cod with french fries. This also translates that the place is overpriced .. By my experience I would suggest to stick to it: we went for two more appetizers and they were not worth it (e.g. hot fish appetizer is almost a scam). Very friendly staff though and the place is a kind of must see tourist attraction, so worth to try! Tip: you need to be really hungry to take the big fish&chips platter. Located in SoHo, next all pubs and theatres. We had haddock fried fish with chips, and grilled mackerel with chips. They tasted good and service was really friendly, but I could t believe it was nearly $100 for the meal!!! Location is central and food is pretty okay.
The food was alright, though I would still have said made to a lower quality than the fish and chips I'd find in any local chippy. Especially when considering the price difference, I wouldn't ever come again. Although we'd reserved a table in advance they impression I got is that they just sat us at the first table they had available, which was pretty much at the corner of the bar so we had a lot of staff constantly walking past which wasn't ideal. We weren't able to order cocktails or ice cream as their respective stations were already closed for the day, despite no notice of such closures in the menu. Overall a mediocre experience.
3.5 ⭐️ Poppies Fish & Chips had a beautifully designed, clean interior that made the space feel inviting. Opted for fried fish but you can also get it grilled. The fish came in a light, crispy batter with a satisfying crunch, though the chips themselves were fairly average.
The food here is simply alright, nothing special. For the price, portion sizes are a bit small — we did end up quite full and did not finish everything, but I’m just saying that I’ve had much larger portions for less money in the city. It’s a classic London fish and chips shop and has been named a “must try” by several places, including winning awards (such as the National Fish and Chips Award). We went there because of the classic vibe and reputation, but there was honestly nothing special about it. For £20, you get your fish and chips, which come with a VERY small little jar of tartar sauce (additional jars are charged extra, although the waiter did slip us one extra for free, which was appreciated). I’d consider it more of a tourist draw than anything else. We did enjoy the meal, but I don’t have any particular reason to return.
Staffs are nice but it’s just an expensive and ordinary fish & chips. The location may be good for tourists but the food is not worthy to try.
Food was absolutely delicious. Service was kind but charged us 6 POUNDS without telling us for “optional service charge”. Not mentioned in the menu, nor door, nowhere. Did not like that at all.
The food was ok but nothing out of the ordinary regarding fish and chips quality or taste in London. The reason for my 2 stars in service is the fact that they are rushing you out the door from the minute you kind of empty your plate. The staff was eyeing the plates and everytime we took a last bite of one they would inmediately come to take it away. We were sipping the last sip of expresso when they brought the bill, ready to ask us to leave. We don't appreciate that kind of rush, specially when there were 6 visibly empty tables next to us. Furthermore, £4 for a tiny double expresso seems way too expensive. They said in the website where you confirm your reservation that the dress code is "business casual" and It clearly was not looking at the rest of the diner guests' clothes.
Stumbled across the fish and chip shop whilst on a family walk and because we love a savaloy we literally walked into the takeaway section and ordered simply that. £4.29 in my opinion is very over priced and it’s flavour was very bland where as when I’ve had them most other places it has a more smoked flavour which this lacked. The restaurant side of the business was full and the atmosphere look great. Love how they had gherkins and pickled onions and eggs old school and a lot of their signage and items in the shop were very nostalgic.
BEWARE TOURIST TRAP! I’ve tried a several fish and chip place here in London and a lot of locals have warned me about this place; a few articles have said this place have definitely fallen from grace. I could not agree more after my experience here. Experience: The server sat us down and took our order and forced us to order and that we “can’t share”. The food: ordered fish and chips cod, the great thing about London fish and chips is the whole experience and how much seriousness effort and detail they put into their beloved fish and chips. The batter was left alot to desire, a bit soggy and flavorless. The fish was cooked well however it also had no flavor. The chips were not the standard I’ve gotten accustomed to around here in London, they were tiny and while they were crispier than the batter or the fish… they were not as crispy nor seasoned compared to other fish and chips place. Oddly enough the only thing worth mentioning was the sticky toffee pudding, the pudding itself was kind of dry however the toffee sauce was VERY GOOD. The place did have a good oldies feel but that can only carry the place so much. I recommend you guys go try elsewhere to have a good authentic fish and chips place experience
The atmosphere was decent because of the decor, everything else not even a one to be fair. I’m not even sure which one of the four locations we went to. The fish and chips had no taste at all. It was extremely oily. It upset me also that they required both people dining to mandatory but at least an appetizer or starter. The waiter who was very rude said the calamari is very good. It was very expensive and it had only four pieces. There was more oil than calamari with it. I barely ate half of one and told them to throw this in the trash. He said you need to pay for it anyway. I told him usually most people have to pay for their mistakes so don’t worry it won’t happen again by me. As of right now this restaurant chain has a four star rating but I really don’t know how. I wouldn’t have ate their food even if they paid me what I paid for it to them. Save yourself the money and headache by dining with them. Let my review be your warning and don’t let the others review fool you.
Worst experience ever. Wish I could get my money back. The most bland and flavourless fish and chips which wasn’t even real chip shop food. Extremely expensive and tiny portions, even my 8 year old daughter asked why there was so little food. £27 for 1 TINY fish and chips is absolutely disgusting I can’t believe they dare charging people this. I want my money back I really had a horrible experience. Sad to all the tourists that think this is a real chip shop
