Absolutely incredible experience from start to finish. The food was outstanding, beautifully presented, full of flavour, and clearly crafted with real attention to detail. Our dishes felt considered and elevated. A special thank you to Alex, who truly made the evening exceptional. His knowledge of the wine was impressive, and his recommendations were spot on – each pairing complemented the food perfectly. He was attentive without ever being intrusive, professional yet warm, and clearly passionate about what he does. Highly recommend and already looking forward to visiting the London location next.
Taverna Trastevere in Clapham completely won me over with their seafood spaghetti. The starters were just as delicious, setting the tone for a great meal. Customer service was spot-on. Just a heads-up; it’s not the cheapest place, but the quality makes it worth the splurge. A lovely spot for a special Italian dinner!
Delicious and authentic Roman food in London. The Tonnarelli alla Gricia were simply amazing, so creamy and crispy I would eat a second portion. We also took supplí as a starter, a plate of amatriciana and paccheri with vaccinara sauce and also saltimbocca alla romana and everything was delicious and authentic. The maritozzo was the perfect conclusion of a tasty lunch. Honorable mention to the wonderful staff who made us feel like at home, friendly, funny and heartwarming. Definitely recommend and we'll definitely come back!
Finally, a real taste of Roma in London! Taverna Trastevere is just like home – the food is full of flavour, simple and perfect, and the staff make you feel like family. I’m so happy to have a little corner of Rome here in Clapham Junction. Hope I can managed to see you more often. Daje Roma Daje!!
We came to Taverna Trastevere as we had read the amazing reviews about their true-Roman style food and we were not disappointed! Everything we had was really good. We enjoyed our pizza margherita, spaghetti vongole (yum!) and the calamari fritti. Loved the dessert too: Millefolgie was amazing, and good tiramisu. Staff is super friendly and helpful. I do agree however with the reviews that portions are way too small for the prices!
Guys, highly recommended! I went yesterday with my girlfriend and honestly, I didn’t expect this good of a place. I’d write a whole testament if I say how good this place is. Top food. Top people. Top environment. Top price. Thank you for looking after us! Please, if you get to go, get the San Daniele ham with Burrata. You’ll never want to leave that place. Top tier restaurant!
This place is awesome!!! I’ve heard around it’s some of the best Italian in London and it 100% lives up to the hype. We had the carbonara and the pizzas. Best carbonara I have had in years and highly recommend. Similar to that, one of the best pizzas I’ve had in a while. Fresh ingredients, delicious dough, and unreal crust and undercarriage from the pizza oven. A lot of the staff are Italian which only means one thing - good, authentic, beautiful Italian food and drinks. The restaurant has a beautiful Italian vibe. Everybody was so nice, service was quick, and everything was overall top notch. Prices are standard for London but not expensive. Very fairly priced! Highly recommend this place to anyone who loves a special Italian meal!!
I’ve been to this restaurant twice with my girlfriend, and both times were great! As an Italian, I can say this is probably the best carbonara in London — creamy, rich, and absolutely delicious. We had supplì and arrosticini to start, both really tasty. We were tempted to try the Roman-style pizza, which looked amazing — thin and crispy — but for us, coming here means one thing: carbonara! For dessert, the tiramisu was excellent, while the cheesecake wasn’t really my favourite. Friendly staff, cosy atmosphere, and truly authentic Roman food. Highly recommended!
Amazing, authentic, delicious Italian food, and a fantastic, friendly customer experience. My husband and I went there on a Wednesday for lunch, there was a nice atmosphere and the service was quick and perfect. We had the two supplí, a fritto misto (so delicious and tasty!), and arrosticini as starters. Then one Margherita + Gorgonzola and one lamb with potatoes.. if you’re a meat lover, you cannot leave without trying the lamb 🤩 We also had one tiramisù and one millefoglie with red fruits.. no words to describe them, out if this world 😍 White wine was nice too, the Trebbiano went down smoothly :) I would give a thousand stars if I could, it’s highly recommended and we will definitely go back, with our two kids too!
Came here for lunch on a Sunday - the staff were super friendly and the food was honestly some of the best I’ve had. Highly recommend the carbonara (phenomenal) but everything we tried was genuinely amazing. Super cozy and family friendly. Great selection on menu and top notch service. Will definitely be returning!
We’ve lived in the area for many years and, although we’re Polish, our greatest culinary love has always been Italian cuisine. That’s why it’s hard to believe we only discovered Taverna Trastevere a few days ago. The food was absolutely wonderful the steak was cooked to perfection, beautifully tender and full of flavour. The carbonara was delicious as well, slightly different from what we’ve had in other Italian restaurants, which made it feel even more authentic. And the pizza… simply outstanding! Honestly the best we’ve ever had. The atmosphere is exactly what you’d expect from a traditional Italian trattoria ,warm, welcoming and wonderfully family friendly, as if you’ve popped round to a friend’s home for dinner. Highly recommended! ❤️🍝🇮🇹
Vibrant atmosphere, fantastic and kind staff, very clean, and a great authentic Italian kitchen. Always happy to come again! Thank you guys for the fantastic food and pleasant visit
Excellent Outstanding experience, excellent service from Roberto, Simone and the other Puglian guy (apologies for forgetting the name but the limoncello was flowing) Food was 10/10 really authentic Roman Taverna What a place Highly recommend, from a Roman restauranteur. Grazie ragazzi. Beppe and Noemi
Amazing food. The best carbonara i’ve had. The desserts are absolutely delicious as well. Could not fault this restaurant. A little bit in the middle of nowhere for me, but honestly the travel there was so worth it. I’ll be dreaming of this food for a while and i will definitely be going there again.
Took my father out for a belated Birthday lunch here given the great reviews. The hype is most definitely real!! Greeted by a genuinely warm welcome. All members of front of house were consistently good. They clearly care about their restaurant. You know they do when it literally takes just a couple of seconds to get their attention. Each of them are scanning the dining room feverishly. Tip top atmosphere. The menu is filled with Roman classics. Nothing avant garde here but it’s not supposed to be. It’s a traditional trattoria. All the dishes were authentic and delicious. Flavour profiles were gentle and nuanced. There’s nothing here that slaps you in the face. It’s about comfort security and a taste of home. Special shout out to the tiramisu. As good as anything we had in Rome uteri just a few weeks before. You could wrap me up in that sabayon and throw away the key. Do I recommend this place?? 110% I do. It’s wonderful.
Utterly flawless carbonara. The best you will ever have. The cacio e pepe and spaghetti all’ amatriciana were also fantastic. Highly recommend ordering the calamari and prawn fritti too. Oh and the tomato sauce that comes with the veal meatballs is indescribably delicious and is probably the nicest tomato sauce I’ve had. Wash it all down with a proper Aperol spritz and thank me later.
This is the second time I have been to Taverna. I celebrated my birthday here on Saturday, staff are extremely accommodating as always, food is to die for absolutely incredible! It is like being transported back to Rome. Definitely worth the travel to the restaurant, I live in Kent and will definitely always make the time to travel and eat at taverna it has the most authentic tasting Italian food there is in London. Definitely will be coming back. Thank you for making my birthday extremely special.
Really enjoyed the food here! Everything was good but the lamb cutlets and carbonara are “must haves” for me. The carbonara is apparently the best in London so worth trying. The starters and desserts were equally good and a pleasant surprise as we tried dishes that were new to us like pizza bread with pistachio mortadella (add burrata to this and thank me later) and cannolo trasteverino, which was chef’s kiss 👌🏽 Will definitely be back.
Went with family to celebrate a birthday and we were warmly welcomed and well fed. The difficult thing was choosing what to have! I enjoyed a limoncello spritz the spaghetti special (prawns, chilli, garlic, mint and breadcrumbs), the carbonara was a stand out dish and the seabass main with mixed veggies was cooked to perfection. We were seated at lunchtime, had a bottle of the vermentino to share and we're treated to being shown the meringata al limone in its full glory by one of the chefs, ordered a slice to share for dessert and that was a great, light dessert with a delicious lemon cream! Looking forward to visiting again, thank you :)
Felt like going back home! The service was nice and quick, the food quality was amazing at very competitive price. My boyfriend request some flowers on the table and the staff made it happen. An authentic Italian spot in London, extremely recommended 👍
Came with my family and baby, the food and atmosphere was amazing, is a perfect place for a date or any other occasion, warm Italian rustic vibe but yet very good in all details. Team is so welcoming , a special thanks to our waitress Romina as she took care of us being so playful with our baby 🫶🏼 highly recommend , def coming back ! Thank you 🙏🏼
Although we live on the other side of london this is our new favourite spot. Always worth the journey to go and see Silvia and her passionate, knowledgeable team. The food is remarkable and so tasty. My partner and I have been twice and we intend to let everyone know how great this place is. The best Italian in London by far! Thanks Silvia!
Food as always is excellent. The dinner was exceptional with great flavours. Roberto looked after me and my pregnant partner extremely well. We go there regularly and will continue to do so.
A really great atmosphere and busy on the Monday we went, and the food was amazing! Highly recommend the focaccia with Buratta & Ham! Also if you're a pasta lover just get the carbonara, it has a great reputation for a reason :)
Italian here ! Was super excited to try! The focaccia was a pizza dough and we got the burrata with olives, eggplant and pesto, was really good! As our mains we got paccheri with slow cooked ragù and carbonara! They were both nice, but i had super high expectations and for the amount of money you pay… it was lovely but not the best pasta i’ve had in london! The dessert i got was very nice! Recommend the millefoglie! High prices , good food
Food is good but not excellent, have had better at other local Italians. Pasta in particular was very salty. The service wasn’t great to be honest- neither welcoming nor super efficient. Not a bad experience but there are other better options for the price point.
Lovely atmosphere and great service, it felt like being in Rome! The food was very tasty, with fresh and excellent quality ingredients. I had the grilled prawn and squid dish which was delicious. A little too overpriced though.
One of the better Italian restaurants I have tried in London. The highlight was definitely the ragu, amazingly seasoned sauce and al dente pasta. There was four of us so we got a few dishes to share. Portion sizes for the price are also fantastic, lovely atmosphere on a sunny evening.
Last night, I dined at a restaurant in Zona 2, London, and overall, the experience was a mix of highs and lows. We started with bruschetta and Burrata, both of which were fresh and flavorful. For the main courses, we had Carbonara and Tonnarelli Alla Grigia, and both dishes were expertly prepared. To finish, we enjoyed Mille Foglie and Roch Pistacchio, which were delightful. Despite the quality of the food, the bill was exceptionally high, especially considering the restaurant's location outside Central London. Some of the prices were even steeper than those at restaurants in central London. Additionally, it is intriguing to note that the Aperol Spritz costs £10 at the bar directly opposite Trattoria Trastevere, while it costs £12 at Trattoria Trastevere itself, despite both being on the same street in the same location. The toilet facilities were disappointing. They were dirty, with old furniture and unappealing dry flowers that detracted from the restaurant's atmosphere. I also noticed two waitresses were confused about where to place plates. Overall, it was a great experience, but I'm uncertain if I would return.
The food is great. It tastes exactly like the food I've had in Rome five times in the past. We got the gricia, carbonara, amatriciana, a pizza margarita and a dessert that I don't remember what it was. I have nothing bad to say about the taste or quality of the food. It is excellent and authentic. The service is also great and the ambience very cozy. The four stars are for the portion sizes and the price. 18£ for such a small carbonara is very expensive. I understand that everything is becoming more and more expensive but I don't think it is worth it. If portions were a bit bigger then sure, I would definitely be happy with 18£ but for this size no. You need at least two different dishes in order to be full. I ate the amatriciana first and I was still very hungry. I really don't like that after paying that money. Will I be going back? Maybe. It still is a great restaurant. I just think it is a bit of a waste of money when you can get the same carbonara that is equally authentic with guanciale and everything over at pastino or pastation for 11-15£.
A charming little restaurant that instantly transports you to Rome. The atmosphere is intimate and romantic — perfect for a date night or a quiet evening with great food. The pasta tastes authentic and freshly made; the carbonara was really nice. The staff are welcoming, and they were all very polite. It can be busy so would recommend booking but the staff are very accommodating. A wonderful spot for anyone who loves traditional Italian cooking with a cozy, romantic vibe.
Lovely, cosy neighbourhood Italian trattoria that has been around for a while. Typical familial Italian fare, some mains, pasta, pizza, starters, all in varying degrees between lovely and excellent. Pizzas a particular mention, as they are the best i have tried in London in decades. Proof that a ubiquitous little corner place can do special. Really worth visiting even if you are not from a local area - you d probably know of it if you were local anyway.
I got the carbonara, my friend got the amitriciana - we felt that both dishes were far too salty even without the guincale. The tiramisu was very good. The staff are very lovely and the restaurant is run smoothly, it has a great ambience. But sadly, I can’t recommend this place for the pasta. Perhaps the pizza is better. Also feel that it’s not the best value given how expensive the pasta dishes are.
Small venue which is seen as they have tables in front of the front door and insist diners waiting for their tables to stand next to these tables, which we were sat at. Food is very good, however I was charged £1 to change a white base to a tomato base which is quite steep. An Aperol spritz is also £14 !!! It certainly doesn’t reflect Rome prices, even for London it is a lot. Lastly, the service was just bizarre. We were given our bill without asking if we wanted any more drinks or dessert (which we wanted) and then instantly the card machine was bought over to pay. We were also told we had 10 minutes left before we had to leave, not a very slow paced dining experience you’d expect to see.
I went here with a friend and she ordered the famous carbonara. She asked for it without pepper and they said no it’s pre-made sauce, which to me suggests it’s not authentic carbonara. She said the sauce was very wet and it could have used some more Parmesan, the guanciale was perfect but the pasta was a little too al dente that it was quite chewy. The tiramisu was delightful but can’t make up for the pasta, we won’t be returning. The decoration felt very Italian but the place was too fully packed and the seats are too closely packed that you can’t really move on a table of two without touching your neighbour.
Had been wanting to come here for so long to try the carbonara. Lovely atmosphere and staff, service was good. The aubergine was very good. Testy. Held back eating all to save space... Good portion to share. However I has disappointed with the carbonara having eaten plenty in Rome. Cold, not much in way of crispy cheek in ratio to pasta and not the traditional thick spaghetti. Something with the sauce I couldn't put my finger on. Maybe too much. I'm not an expert but hey. The search continues.
Wanted to visit the place for long time, but it didn’t meet my standards! Attended on a week day with reservation for 20.30. The place was full, so booking is highly recommended. The staff is friendly and very quick. I ordered the cacio e Pepe croquette, that was nothing special. The popular carbonara was very very salty ( and I never complain about extra salt) , but the cream’s texture was nice! I got tiramisu as a desert that was average and I didn’t like the base was not enough moist.
Taverna Trastevere in London presents itself as a cozy slice of Italy, but my recent visit was far from charming. While the pizza and Spaghetti all’Amatriciana were commendable, the experience was marred by several issues. Firstly, the waiters were inattentive and unenthusiastic, barely acknowledging our presence and seeming entirely disinterested in providing any level of service. Asking for an ashtray seemed to make our waiter uncomfortable, and we were curtly informed that smoking outside was not permitted – a surprising restriction for an outdoor dining area. The physical condition of the table added to our discomfort, with the sides literally coming apart. This lack of maintenance was disappointing and quite distracting. Additionally, the waitstaff seemed a bit confused and perplexed by my resting expression(akin ti that of being genuinely fed up with life), which only added to the awkwardness of the evening. To top it off, a 13.5% discretionary service charge was automatically added to the bill. We politely asked for an explanation as we see this quite frequently in London. We were told it was mandatory and needed to pay for the waiters salary. Given the lackluster service, this felt entirely undeserved and left a sour note on what could have been an enjoyable dining experience. Despite the good food, the overall atmosphere and service at Taverna Trastevere leave much to be desired.
The food was good but we didn't get seated until 30 minutes after our booking and were not offered any drink as an apology. We were then seated at the door and there was a constant draft from the door being opened. There was also a large party that added a good ambience but as soon as they left, there was no music and the place was dead! Such a shame as the food was very good, especially the pistachio tiramisu.
We recently visited here after seeing lots online claiming that this is the best carbonara in London and unfortunatley we were very disappointed. The service was OK, not that attentive and no one came over to check how the food was despite the restraunt being almost empty. The food itself looked good when it came out, but the carbonara pasta was slightly undercooked and hard to chew, the pork was nice crispy and salty, but overall I think the carbonara was too rich and a bit too salty. The foccacia again looked very nice the bread was nice and soft however it was like someone smeared salt all over the top of it, it was unfortunately way too salty that we couldn't eat it and we did see someone else at another table wiping the salt off aswell
We went to this place with high hopes. However, when we got there, the service was slow, and staff stood around chatting. Eventually, our orders were taken, Paccheri con coda alla vaccinara, this was tasty but not really worth the price and Salsiccia e broccoli pizza, one will expect to see Brocoli on this pizza but it looked more like spinach... the bits of sausages were succulent and slightly crispy. It was disappointing that my meal came 10 minutes before my friends, like they expected them to watch me eat. It would have been great to have them brought together.
We visited this restaurant with high expectations based on glowing online reviews and beautiful photos, and while the service lived up to the hype, unfortunately the food did not. To start on a positive note, the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating — we were seated promptly despite not having a reservation, and felt genuinely welcomed. The starters were decent, nothing remarkable, but enjoyable enough. The real disappointment came with the mains. My girlfriend ordered the clam pasta, which was a complete letdown. The pasta was so undercooked it was bordering on raw, and a third of the clams hadn’t even opened — a clear red flag. Even worse, a few hours after our meal my girlfriend became violently ill and was throwing up. This really made us question the quality and safety of the food served. I had a pizza which was just… fine. Nothing more, nothing less. Certainly not worth the premium price we paid. To be clear, the service was excellent and the staff don’t deserve any criticism. But unfortunately, good service can’t make up for food that’s poorly prepared and potentially unsafe. We won’t be returning.
Just had a quick dinner today since we live in the neighborhood and drove past this place everyday. Extremely disappointed with the services we experienced. Our host was extremely rude and unbothered since the minute I have arrived at the front of the restaurant. He bluntly took our order without paying any attention. Occasionally walked off mid ordering and came back bluntly to continue taking our orders. I pointed at the dishes that we wanted and my husband trying to repeat the order with him. Well he missed my husband’s order and did not come to even check if we got everything or if we are satisfied with our order. Weird enough when we asked him about the missing dish after about 20mins of waiting, he started to argue with us that we did not order the missing dish and proceeded to bluntly place a completely different order like Carbonara for us when it was actually the table beside us that ordered the carbonara… We corrected him and asked for the correct order and at this point my husband was not happy with his service since the host/waiter was being extremely sarcastic. To top it off he sarcastically said to my husband that “Don’t worry DARLING, your food is coming” and walked right off. We found this shockingly unprofessional of him When we asked for the bill, the same guy dropped off the bill and told us he removed the dish that came later. But since our experience was quite bad and the way we were spoken to was very rude and abrupt. We request him to remove the service charge. And of course he replied “But we removed the pasta for you already”. I told him that it was his attitude mainly that cause the removal of service charge and that calling my husband Darling wasn’t appropriate and very unappreciated. He then walked off to the bar, started to gossip with the bar tender then came back to say that the food was on the house. I mean Thank you for that but it still doesn’t justify this man behavior towards us. Surely as a restaurant with over 1K+ reviews, you should already have clear step of services and better standards than this.
A very disappointing experience. My extended family booked a table a month in advance for a Christmas get together, but when we arrived, we were made to wait 25(!) minutes for our table. Meanwhile another large party was sat with no wait. The staff asked if we wanted drinks, and we asked if these would be complimentary considering our wait, to which they begrudgingly offered us HALF a glass of prosecco, which never arrived. Whilst we were stood waiting in the cramped restaurant, I was also bumped by a waiter, who then said "get out of my way" instead of apologising. I was hoping the food would make up for all of this, but the bruschetta was dry and needed salt. The carbonara was incredibly sickly and I felt quite nauseous by the end of it. Smokers kept going outside and leaving the door open, so we were blasted with freezing cold air at regular intervals. We quite literally had to wave our hands in the air to get service. Finally, we were charged 12.5% service charge for our troubles. In short - go somewhere else!
