Everything tasted amazing. I had the teriyaki chicken plate and while I would have liked a bit more white rice, I did clean my plate. I also had the LA Steak Roll, which tasted out of this world. From start to finish it was a very enjoyable experience.
I used to come here once a week for lunch when I worked nearby. I can't comment on dinner but the lunch special is pretty legit and it's reasonably priced. The lunch special that I would get comes with five pieces of sushi and your choice of another dish (usually I would get some type of special roll or their spicy tuna salad). The fish quality is good here and the people here are friendly! Parking is also a non issue.
Sushi Kinoya has a place in my heart forever. From the time they opened their doors back in 2007-08, they had seen our oldest son grow up to a teenager and have also seen my two other children (son and daughter) grow up as well. Iris, the wife-owner along with her husband has been very kind and they know us. We feel like family there. Iris even always remembers to bring me extra Wasabi because she knows how much I love to eat sushi and get teary-eyed from the Wasabi. My wife and I have our go-tos. I love the baked lobster with white fish, the albacore delight, and the rock and roll sushi. Everything is good there. And from day one when we first visited until the last time, the food quality and taste has been ultra consistent. The service is always friendly and attentive. We love to support this small business because we love the people that run it. The food just makes it that much better. I highly recommend eating there.
I've never tasted such fresh, savoring sushi in my entire life!!! Even fried tempura tasted fresh, light, and not too oily. Friendly service, cozy atmosphere, great food! Will be coming back for many years to come~
Absolutely loved our meal at Sushi Kinoya! All of the fish tasted so fresh and was not drenched in ponzu sauce like other places. The staff was all very friendly and was able to answer our questions. Like most sushi it was pricey, but sushi is ALWAYS expensive so I can't really call that a complaint, just be aware. However for the price the meal was perfect! Miso soup came to the table right after we sat down, nice to have an appetiser included in the meal. I wish this place was closer and I could afford to eat sushi every night, I don't think I would ever get sick of it.
Not only does this place have high quality and delicious sushi, but the owners and wait staff are always very attentive and friendly. Everything is fresh and delicious. We had the yellowtail with jalapeno which had three perfect level of spice and a generous portion of fish. The Los Altos handroll, one of my favorites, had the perfect convo of soft and crunchy, spicy and sweet. I splurged on tempura this visit, and it was perfectly crunchy with a lovely variety of vegetables. I highly recommend sushi kinoya for all your sushi needs.
One of my favorite sushi places in Long Beach. This team has been serving up sushi for several years and doing it well. Always welcoming and moderately priced, my favorite dish is the Crunch Onion Albacore.
I always love eating here. They have amazing fish. Just a great place to go.
do not be deceived by the hole-in-the-wall exterior. sushi kinoya makes THE BEST spicy tuna hand rolls. i don’t know what they do differently but it tastes so so good!!
Ugh! Words cannot describe how much I loved this sushi. Got it as takeout as I was tired and just wanted to go home; boy I do not regret it! I got the rainbow roll and it has to be the most delicious sushi I have ever tasted (granted, I eat sushi pretty sparingly despite having an affinity for it) and WILL be returning for more, whenever I have the chance. It's on my way home and I don't think I can resist stopping by!
I loved it there completely. I feel they just have the best food I want to try and eat everything they serve it's all fabulous very comforting. I usually go with my daughter and a few other people they just have the best menu in my daughter's best at knowing what to pick out but I love rock very good for the best place to go
Everything was delicious and everyone was wonderful. Highly recommend eating here! Loved it. 1st place that I've had take the peel off shrimp tail on the tempura, just amazing!
UPDATE: DAAYUUUM!!! (Sorry if offensive), but it is sooooo good. I'm not a fan of rolls, because I like sashimi the most, but OMFG!! I had a Philadelphia roll and imagine a perfectly ripe avocado with an almost whip-like texture and just enough cheese and other flavors to balance perfectly. Wow, the best roll I've ever had. So I didn't stop there, had the 9-1-1 Roll, which is a spicy tuna roll with avocado on top!!! YUM!!! They make the spicy tuna to order, so you get to choose the level of spice!! OMG, time for dessert. Drink: No beer today, green iced tea. BEST SUSHI IN LONG BEACH! There are others with higher ratings, but I think it's due to drink specials, not fresh sushi. The short ribs and rice are also good if you're with someone who doesn't like sushi.
Authentic, great fish quality, great service. Had a very large party, reserved with a deposit. The staff was friendly and courteous. The fish quality was outstanding. I'm particularly fond of the hamachi belly
Cute little spot that you’d never suspect has great vibes, great service and wonderful food. We had the hamachi truffle appetizer and wanted to lick the plate- it was that good! Also had simple salmon nigiri, spam masubi and mango tuna roll. All delicious. There was lo-fi music playing and several single or two-person tables all just enjoying their lunch. 10/10 recommend this spot, especially for a lunch date!
Ok, first things first! One of my favorite things to do when I visit a new place is find unexpectedly fantastic Sushi in what may be very modest dogs (yes, capital 'S' outta respect for the artistry and SHOUT OUT TO CRAZY JOE'S SUSHI IN PALM SPRINGS FOR SETTING THE BAR SO HIGH)! Sushi Kinoya was great! Great food and great price...most reasonable I've had all day! I had one of the lunch specials Red Snapper Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll + miso soup. The miso was fine. But, the Sushi was awesome! I had enough to feel completely satisfied ... not just the proportions though great but the flavors, too ... chef's kiss! And, my favorite thing of all...they didn't skimp on the ginger! I even had some left over! Would definitely come again on my next trip! Viva the strip mall sushi!!! The vibe is friendly and warm. If you're trying to impress her or him with the decor...not the place. BUT, if you want good food and money left over to make a great day of it, run don't walk to Sushi Kinoya! Sorry no pics... food too good and I was way to hungry, 😂
One of the best and close to authentic sushi restaurants around Long Beach. It is not a huge fancy restaurant, but the simplicity of the calming ambiance speaks for itself. The food is exceptional. Not only the sushi but their specials are delicious and unique. The size of the rolls are perfect bite size (unlike other glorified sushi restaurants which make them difficult eat!). I am also a regular and they are so consistent with the food. Love it! Highly recommend it.
The one and only sushi joint I go to in LBC, going on 20 years now. Legit in terms of quality and freshness. (Unlike some places that distract from un-fresh poor quality by smothering with sauces!) They also get fresh uni from Santa Barbara when in season which speaks to the authenticity of the place—but do call in advance for it! Staff including owner/chefs and servers are always very gracious and welcoming.
The best and my favorite authentic sushi spot in town! The freshness and flavor of their nigiri, sushi rolls, and miso is second to none. Their albacore sushi especially brings so much umami taste; I’d recommend it to anyone. The customer service is also always super friendly and quick. They know me and my best friend there now since we’ve been going there for years. From the outside, the location seems very quaint and unassuming, but once you go in, expect to be greeted with a big smile from the owner and enjoy a very cute and personal dining space with those accompanying you. Go try this spot if you appreciate quality and delicious sushi.
This is THE best sushi place in East Long Beach. Nothing is bad on the menu. The owner and his staff are very personable and greet you coming and bid farewell leaving. Try the crazy spicy tuna roll. You won't be disappointed and will love everything they make for you. They are only closed on Sunday and go to the fish market everyday they are open. Fresh!!! Highly recommend Sushi Kinoya! Awesome!
Sushi grade is incredible if not the best in Long Beach!
Sushi kinoya is a hidden gem! My girlfriend and I were looking for a new experience and we found it. Right away this place caught our attention it was clean, inviting and I loved their neon lights and decor. Especially their Akira poster! The owners/staff were very kind and attentive, we loved the jazz they were playing while we browsed and ate our meal. Now to the sushi!!! It was amazing fresh, and pieces just melted in our mouths! The photos speak for themselves just take a look. This is our new favorite sushi date spot. It's got a romantic quiet and classy vive.
My wife and I frequent many Japanese restaurants and this has become our favorite local spot. The menu is full of authentic and delicious options as well as the common comfort treats. The staff is attentive and kind and I can sense a real care to their House Special Recipes. Today we had the Chirashi and Tekka Don and they were both perfect. We also had the Truffle Hamachi Roll but devoured it before we could take pictures
The food surely stands out!!! Bluefin tuna and other sashimi Fresh food Very prompt service Even the Chefs are hospitable, very nice to see.
Mellow local sushi with better fish. Their willingness to use fatter cuts of salmon is really all I need to trust. The fatter side of me would hope for more pieces per cut sushi order, but great taste and friendly service more than make up for it!
I appreciate the changes they made to the dining area and the menu. I was craving vegetable tempura and ended up ordering sushi to go along with it, all delicious and fresh. Sushi Kinoya is my neighborhood go-to for Japanese food.
Today I went to sushi Kinoya because of a recommendation from my math teacher. I tried the Baked Eel Roll, and everything was very fresh, and they put a very good amount of Eel. I give it a 9/10 excellent. The atmosphere was very nice and relaxed, and the servers were very good. I will be taking friends here and I recommend coming and trying this joint out.
The moment I walked in I knew I was in for something special. I was not wrong. Best Sushi in LB... hands down. The service was 5 stars as well. Its about quality here. Not about feeding the masses. I will return, oh yes I will return.
i LOVED the food here. one of the best sushi ive ever tasted. the people there are super nice too. definitely would bring a friend next time!
Excellent sushi and service! Prices are also good for what you get.
This place is super cute and festive inside with an enthusiastic Japanese woman that greets you. There's fun music. And the rice to fish ratio is GREAT.

Very very tasty, and we got fresh wasabi that sent the sushi to the moon...yum Highly recommend
I had such a positive experience here. They really pay attention to details and customer satisfaction.
Hands down the best sushi in long beach. Have been here a few times and still making my way through the entire menu but have yet to find anything short of amazing. This is the freshest fish in the area
Family favorite we have been going here for a decade now. Good for sushi obsessed people like me or even people who aren't crazy for raw fish (I recommend the bento for this folks) Quality of fish is good and the chefs are great with recommendations. High recommend for anyone near by.
I went for the first time yesterday and it's now one of my favorite sushi places! The fish was fantastic quality. And my roll wasn't drowned in excessive amounts of sauce, either, like some highly Americanized sushi places do. The service was friendly, fast, and attentive. I absolutely would go back!

Great sushi and beautiful presentation, the kitchen staff deserves a 6/5, but the wait staff was rude and ignored my friend and I the whole time. I work in customer service myself and am an extremely patient person, but it was not a busy day and I waited a good 20 minutes to just get our waitress' attention and another 10 to get the straw I asked for while she took her time chatting with her coworkers a few feet from our table. Nevertheless, the food and prices were good enough that I'll likely be back for more (I'll just have to be sure to remember my own straw).
They used to be much better for many years. It is kind of disappointing.
I've returned to this place after about a 8 year hiatus. The food is exactly good I remembered. Excellent! One of the main reasons? The seared albacore tuna topped with crispy onions. So amazing was the dish, that my buddy and I had to order two rounds! The albacore was seared to perfection, Lightly covered in ponzu and sesame oil. And the kicker? A mound of perfectly, lightly battered fried onions. Other stars of the show? The salmon and sweet scallop roll. Our waitresses favorite and I have to agree it was pretty damn tasty. The butteriness of the salmon with sweetness of the scallop blessed well to make the perfect roll. The service you ask? A+. They are on it!! Come by this place. Preferably right efore the dinner time rush at 7 pm on wed
Alot of variety. Sushi was fresh. One server was kept busy during a rush. A good spot to return.
This place has a great lunch special and used to be the best spot in town. Then they let the college kids have the run of it and the service and selection went down hill fast. Better off with Sushi on Fire.
Where do people get the idea this is a 4.7 star sushi place. I've been eating sushi for 30 years. This place is no different than an all you can eat place. This sushi has been frozen and stored for many days. It's not terrible but diffinately not fresh by any means. I'd rate at most a 3.9.
I would love to give this place 4 or 5 stars. Service was really awesome! For the money we spent however, the fish quailty and atmosphere didn't justify a $175 bill alcohol included. It was two people and an eight year old. It's a local mom and pop place (wich is a plus normally) located in a shopping center with a Target and Big Lots. We ate and drank the normal amount we have had at other places but the bill should've come out to $80-$100....apples to apples. That being said they have no food on happy hour here and the drink specials are limited. So that does hurt their pricing for the customer. I would be happy to eat here again but the complexity of dishes and dinning environment doesn't justify the amount spent... so I will be selective next time. This place does well because of the CSLB crowd or the local neighborhood families who don't know and can blow a few hundred bucks on mid level sushi with great service. Iv'e eaten at most sushi places in Long Beach and I will admit it can be hard to find peak qaulity and value in our area. This place place does so much well but falls short in the value aspect.
The specialty rolls I ordered were good. The tap Sapporo beer was actually perfectly poured. The hot sake serving size was very generous. The location is convenient, but the ambience is a little basic. The server we had made me feel a little rushed. Price was slightly off balance compared to the quality.

The high rating is a false rating here. Table was unclean with crusted food. Table maintenance none existent and food quality low. The crème brûlée was floating in sugar water and the size of 1/4 cup. Stay away. Odor of place was even slightly funky.

Kitchen normally closes at 7:30, and we got there at 6:30. Even though, there was an empty (and clean) table—not to mention the half-dozen empty bar stools at the sushi counter—they told us that we needed to wait for half an hour if we wanted to stay; which we did. After waiting at the door for a while, the owner said something to her waitress, and she came and asked us to leave. It didn’t matter to them a bit that they had said we could wait, or the fact that we have been going there for years. Imagine if you go into a bank and stand in line, and then they come to you after a while and tell you that they can’t help you because they want to go home. They may know how to prepare food, but they’re really bad at running a business! Good luck if you decide to take a chance there.
This place has changed so much since the old owner retired. The place always made you feel welcome and the flavors of the sushi always meshed well with each other. Now, no greeting, just standing at the door hoping someone even looks in your direction so you can be seated. The "dragon roll" was not good. All you can taste was mayo, the eel was undercooked and the eel sauce was tasteless. The new mango roll now uses spicy tuna and that overpowers the flavor of the mango. The restaurant has lost all its charm and will not be back.

The place was completely devoid of customers on a Thursday night, should have left right then. Noticed some of the chairs were crudely repaired/patched up. The items were overpriced and the quality of the fish wasn't great. We decided to leave about half full, instead of wasting more money. Worth noting it is a Korean owned sushi joint. Stay away!
Terrible service towards people of color and anyone in the Trans community. They treated my friend like she was nothing and took forever to make our food plus got it wrong then made us wait 10 minutes before asking us what we wanted again. We just walked out afterwards. Then they have the nerve to tell us pay for your drinks. What drinks you have our table mixed up with someone else. Cringe much
