I've been there two days in a row, and might go for the third tomorrow! Great food quantity and quality 👍🏻
Good food
I ate here right before my trip to Ecuador. They are damn close to the real thing out here!!
Food and service always great. Delicious good serve by very attentive and nice individuals. Outstanding service.
Fantastic authentic food. We had the ceviche which was huge and delicious. Skirt steak was cooked to perfection. Best we’ve had. Also the seafood soup was full of seafood and very tasty. Cute little outdoor tables and pleasant service. Will definitely be back!
This great place is the bomb!!! And I mean that in the most Positive way ever!!! I have been coming here for so many years with Family and friends and the food never disappoints!! Great food , great ambiance, great service all around!! I love it! Went tonight for dinner with my Son and the Guatita was excellent and my Son had the Carne Apanado with sides and the Bolòn. Delishhh!!! Thumbs up all around!!
I personally love the food here I think it's the best restaurant that carries Ecuarodian food in town. I love coming here and everything I have tried here I can say was delicious! I've never had a problem with the staff I find them very friendly and the service has been quite good to us. All my experiences coming here have been quite satisfying I can't complain, plus they serve a very generous amount of food. I most certainly recommend this tropical restaurant. But don't take my word for it, I rather you go try it out, everyone has their own opinion. The only tropical I certainly don't recommend is the one located on fresh pond road, the food is not good there, which I find odd being that it's the same restaurant just different location.
The place has great food. The service takes a little long, but is understandable since they have a lot of clients. The decorations are simple yet feel comfortable. I recommend it, if you want to go by yourself or with the family.
Came here for lunch. It has nice outdoor seating space. Felt like we almost had a private area. The staff was nice. I forget what the dish is called but it was the Ecuadorian rice with mixed seafood and meat. It's was very good.
The food is really good. I had some sort of beef stew that was wonderful but the lime set it off!!! I try to get as much meat and healthy fats and lime as possible to avoid carbs laufl
Love the typical Ecuadorian dishes they have!!The service was great , it's always an enjoyable time with my family when we go . Truth be told everyone has their own liking and taste and have different experiences and although everyone has their own opinions on the restaurant you really have to try it out for yourself , personally I love coming here and hope you will too!!
Best margaritas, my mom had to order another one. She said she has tried a lot of margaritas but these are the best! Definitely recommend (plus the food is soo delicious)
Love this place, always a spot for my family to get together and enjoy a good bolon mixture! I'm glad this place survived the pandemic and still thriving, their new outdoor dining setup is great too!
I had the grilled steak with salad, rice and beans (Churrasaco Colombiano).. The meal was well worth the price I paid. The steak was tender as ever with great flavor! The salad complemented the meal. Rice and beans; two thumbs up👍🏾👍🏾
This place is amazinggg. I go every Saturday. The food, the vibe, and the music is impeccable. Highly recommend the fried fish and mojito (my fav). The fact that this place isn't 5 stars breaks my heart. As a South American it's been so hard to find a place that feels like home. Jessie and MaFer are literal angels and great us with the best energy every time!
So disheartening to see so many people leave reviews that aren’t 10/10. This place is INSANE. Food is 10/10. Cocktails??? 10/10. Atmosphere?! 10/10. The food here feels like it came straight from your mother’s kitchen. I come here once a week EVERY week just to eat right and feel like I visited home. Yesi always makes us feel like home, and Mafer hits me with the best drinks. There is literally no where else I go to feel like I’m close to home. Name one Ecuadorian spot that’s better than this. I’ll wait. Name one spot that has a better churrasco or pescado frito. Love you Tropical!!
The food is amazing here every time. Recently started working around the area and walked in here not expecting anything. The food is a little on the hearty side, but every dish I had there was incredible. The first time I got the Bandeja paisa and was very good. The chicharon was a bit too fatty for me, but I gave it to my friend and he LOVED it. The portions are extremely generous and one plate could probably feed me at least 2 times. The ceviche was good and fresh and the tostones were SOOOO fresh, cooked to perfection; crispy on the outside and just enough plantain in the middle for that soft chew. The green sauce they have made in house just added that cherry on top. I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone who wants a hearty meal. The only thing I would be wary of is getting the itis afterward.
Had a great time here with my wife, great food, service and atmosphere. The food took a while to come out the kitchen, but it came freshly made and was delicious.
Very clean restaurant. Bathroom was in order which I always look at that . Food was on point . Waitress was very nice. Food was so good 10 out of 10. If you seeking homemade authentic Ecuadorian food this is the spot . Oh and the passion margarita wow it’s delicious. We all order caldo salchichas. Very good and also Bollo de pescado very authentic n so good .
I was in the neighborhood fixing my car. Was looking somewhere to eat, four minutes from the mechanic; I found “Tropical Restaurant” the food was so delicious. I ordered a seafood soup and a shrimp fried rice. Oh my gosh it was so yummy.😋 affordable price, nice people, beautiful place.thank you guys for the experience.
Amazing service and food, got free of charge as me and my Dad did a delivery to the place The only thing that was wrong was that they thought my meal was to go, but it was a very good experience.
The music and people were very nice, all I have to criticize in a positive way was that the inside needs an upgrade. Looks a bit outdated in the sense of old furniture. But food was amazing! Prices are phenomenal! I guess if it got an upgrade, we'd see prices go up on their dishes... So let's keep it the way it is. 😁
Delicious food, kind people, great prices. The chicken fell right off the bone and was very moist.
The food was excellent, price was reasonable. Jessy was an excellent waitress. Would highly recommend the restaurant
I love this place. The people attending it they are the best. I will always visit this place for dinner. Always Dine in. Thank you jessy
The food is fresh, the staff is courteous. The prices are reasonable and the decor is quaint and cozy. I recommend Caldo de bola and ceviche.
This restaurant is amazing! The food is incredible. Everything is so fresh and there are plenty of gluten free options. The fresh juices and cocktails pair nicely with the food. We had a birthday dinner with a group this weekend and the staff went above and beyond to make the night special. Must try the Bolon! It’s very affordable and high quality. If I lived closer I would come more often.
I come to Tropical every Saturday! The music, food and service are all so so wonderful. This food reminds me of home. Now that I live away from my family, Tropical always reminds me that I can find home somewhere else. Jessie and Mafe are both so wonderful to me and my friends. We are always treated so well and with joy. I honestly can’t wait to come back next week!
This is a small place with friendly waiters ( males and females)., family friendly. Serving delicious foods and drinks))..Have big patio in the back for more sitting)) Its not a first class place but i definitely will recommend 👍👍👍🍸🍸🍸🍸😍😍😍 P.s. only gave 4 stars because of problem to get in with stroller. Guys install a ramp asap! Thanks!
Food were great. Had the peppered steak, bed stew, bed ribs, and the goat. I do recommend this place. The service was nice and friendly
Great food, not so great service. The servers just aren't attentive enough to non-spanish speakers. Excellent if you speak Spanish I imagine.
The food & service was good, the meal prices were pricey compare to the surrounding area. I believe if they lowered there prices the restaurant would have more business then what they have now. Viva Ecaudor 🇪🇨
Been coming here more often. The food is good. The staff is friendly. I always leave with a full stomach.
Toogoodtogo pickup: good food for the price, but could have used a little higher volume on the meal. (This isn't the full meal as I had eaten some already. There was another Maduro, and a little more ox tail.) Side note: there's a homemade drunk there that's great for anyone to grab. It's cuáker and it's a nice light drink and not too sweet. Any fan of oatmeal or poverty night oats with passion fruit, vanilla, and pineapple should try this. I grabbed a cup with my order.
Great spot for South American food with good service and a clean dining area. The chicharrón, while flavorful, wasn’t as crispy as expected. it ended up being mostly soft, fatty pieces. The decor and TV content feel like a throwback to the ’80s, which adds a quirky charm if you’re into that. Overall, worth a visit for the food and friendly atmosphere.
Traditional Ecuadorian restaurant staff is marginal a 2 at best. Location is great ease to LIE 495 highway. Portions are large they do an Automatic Tip on your bill and DO NOT Tell you. So when you then add To Go Items your now being charged a Tip or gratuity for to go food. The Spanish Speaking staff did not have enough common sense to wait on your courses if you ordered a Soup Appetizer and an Entry all 3 items came out together so your Entire not sits getting cold. Food portions were large and tasty. This restaurant is very dark and needs decor or a makeover to make this an enjoyable spot.
A lot of noise from the music, good service but the food takes a long time, regarding the food it is good but you have to improve the flavors a little more.
Food had flavor, but service was slow. Years ago used to be better. Ceviche were way flavorful and the portions better. Give it try but don't expect way much.
The food is good but the service is just ok... As all Ecuadorian restaurants orders take forever and waitresses are not very attentive to see if customers are in need of something... If you want something you need to standup and get closer to the cashiers or the bar
As previous posters have stated, the food here is decent but a little on the pricey side. The service ranges from horrible to mediocre. Very rarely has it exceeded though when first started coming here when they first opened up the service was top tier. Since then they have gotten too complacent and take their clientele for granted. The food is their saving grace. If it weren't for the nice portions and it's flavor, it would not be the go to for many. If they correct the staff's attitude and improve their responsiveness and attentiveness, I think the place will definitely be worth the visit.
Was prompted to go to this authentic Ecuadorian restaurant by someone from Ecuador, then a friend who is Ecuadorian saod she heard it was good (but hadn't been). We went for dinner and tried a variety of dishes. The shrimp ceviche cocktail with tostones was maybe the best but not special: overly acidic and - like the rest of the meal - underseasoned. However they are generous with the portion, like all the dishes. We had a traditional Ecuadorian stew of lamb, tripe, egg, and potatoes over white and yellow rice. Again it was totally underseasoned. And there was no egg. The potatoes were tender and the tripe was hit or miss (some tender some chewy). The lamb was also so-so. The rice was nice and it came with more shrimp ceviche. Unfortunately that wasn't written on the menu, so we had too much shrimp (first world problem). We also had thr chicken special, half a rotisserie chicken with rice and beans, the beans were great but there was very little. The chicken had no seasoning amd was quite dry. We had the avocado salad which was average. Altogether totally forgettable food in a lounge like atmosphere in an inconvenient spot. We won't be back.
Too good to go review: a little hard to find cuz the sign is covered by trees. The bartender lady was nice and handed me a meal. It was spicy green sauce, steak and rice. Good flavors but no veggies :(
My experience was okay. My cons are long including: -The wait is really long - too loud music (I get its normal but it felt too much to the point I could barley hear the waiter - They charge you a tip with a specific amount at the end without warning in the beginning (I didn’t even know that was possible☠️)Especially, expecting you to tip more - I ordered fried rice w/ chicken and shrimp along with egg and plantains and it really lacked seasoning. It just felt like someone cooked and forgot to put a single pinch of salt. - Food portion was too big. I’m guessing the size id what caused the long wait but I felt overwhelmed by the size. I just wish in the menu they tell you the size in advance.
Went there Tuesday at 1pm.. Not packed or busy at all.. The waitress was nice and restaurant looked clean. However, the food took too long to get ready. Also they didn't have some basic items from the menu such as plantains. I would not recommend this establishment given Queens offer other Ecuadorian Restaurants with better food service.
I didn’t love the food to be honest, the costumer service at the take out orders was pretty mediocre, I hope they improve. It used to be way better!
The food is really good! the only problem is the service, it’s mediocre and yes, they charge you 20% for tips when sometimes you have to ask more than once for something. It should be worth it if you pick up or delivery your food.
I've been here maybe ten times and have had inconsistent experiences. This morning they overcharged me AND rounded my change down by $.75. Also my quacker tasted rotten. Dependably good coffee on the bright side.
Food was good but there are no prices on the drinks and they advertise them with samples to bait you. They came at the end with $30 dollars charge for 2 mojitos. $15 a drink is way too much.
gatita ok Seco de chivo too fatty and bony rice was old Fritada ok but lots of bones Fruit juice plain Nice service but that's about it Not impressed, better off cooking at home!
I ordered from this place regularly until I realized they were changing the prices on their menu items. 1/2 pollo asado is $9.99 (cash; $10.39 by card) according to their menu, and it comes with your choice of side. I've ordered from them multiple times and am used to paying this. The last time they charged me $18 for the same platter, and when I asked why that is... they gave me a poor excuse, saying that the menu prices do not include the side (despite it showing clearly that it does). I'm not a fan of this kind of business, it's predatory. And that's a shame because their food is actually good.
I've been here a couple of times throught out the years, definitely much better customer service in the past. The waitress kept forgetting to bring us stuff and was not very tentative. The food was also better before. Maybe they had a change of management. Even the uniforms are a bit too short for a family restaurant.
Called over a dozen times and was hanged up on finally got thru placed an order picked it up and they overcharged me by an entire meal, called several times and hanged on me one person kept saying only spanish...they then proceeded to tell me they changed there advertised prices by $dollars on every item I bought which still leaves the about $4 off that price even with tax....worst service ever miserable counter persons too
The food is very good I love the food my kids love the bolon mixto very good ! But the service is very very very bad their is only two waiters that are so rude ! And they over charge not the price on the menu they add to the bill other prices on your bill 🙄 I prefer to take out ! Tropical at Greenpoint Ave
I'm surprised that you guys are still in business because your food taste like ass and it takes you guy like 1 week to serve the god damn food. Plus why is your food so expensive like $50 for fish😑 I will never come back there again. Goodbye
This place take forever to make a delivery; I ordered food and they took more than 1 hour, and it’s only 4 blocks away. Don’t even think to order if you are hungry; because you going to have to wait for the longest.
I WENT YESRTERDAY FOR MY A FAMILY MEMBER BIRTHDAY , OUR BILL CAME UP TO $300 AND THE SERVICE WAS BAD I NEVER IN MY LIFE WENT TO A RESTAURANT AND I HAD TO LOOK FOR THE WAITER IN THE KITCHEN , NO NAPKENS , NO GOOD FOOD THE CAMARONES CEBICHE WAS SWEET WE TOLD THEM IS WAS BAD AND THEY DIDNT CREDIT US THE CEBICHE AND WE DIDNT EAT IT , PLEASE DONT GO TO THIS TROPICAL RESTAUARNT I RECOMMEND THE ONE IN JAMAICA AVENUE
First of all, there was a dog in the restaurant. Then, I got a dirty glass. Food took forever. Food wasn't satisfying. Service was slow. I won't be going there again.
horrible service.. dirty tables.. no hot sauce(not home made or bottle)... food was 6/10!!! never again, I never leave negative reviews and I eat out a lot!
This food had no flavor and the pork tasted old. I got yellow lettuce and two tortilla de papa with no cheese. Absolutely the worst!!! Do not recommend.
The food is good but they ALWAYS CHARGE for items that you’re entree should come with. They also add a 15% tip so make sure you look out for that. Also there is no consistency with this place! Bad service and the restaurant is also dirty! I tried to like this place but I’ve had so any issues with them. And I don’t speak Spanish and the don’t speak English; that’s a problem. I will say they have good beans and plain white rice.
We came in and the waitress will not give us a table despite the fact that there were many tables open. after finally sitting down, this same waitress was serving us and she had an attitude. It's not my fault that you may be having a bad day. Anyways,I can understand that, but I'm not giving the place 1 star because of that. It's the food. It just sucks. The ceviche tastes like water. The chaufa was bad and super salty, the fried fish had no flavor, no salt. It was just a bad experience overall. Not coming back. Maybe it was a bad day for the whole place. But I defiyhad a bad experience there.
The caldo de salchicha had a good flavor but it was cold. The waitress took forever to serve us. We got our bolón after the meal. I noticed a male worker being very inappropriate with one of the waitresses. This should not be happening in a family restaurant. The owner should pay more attention to what is going on in the business. We used yo love this place but lately we've been disappointed.
Worst t-bone steak ever and the service was very poor Requested to talk the manager but he was not at the sight. I've been coming to this restaurant for the past 10 years. The food and the service is getting very poor. Personally this was the best Ecuadorian restaurant in new York but now I don't think it's close to it. I hope the owner of this resaurtant sees this review and makes improvements.
Horrible food and service be careful with the bill they include 15% tip then they charged my credit card without my knowledge another 20% for tip I ended up paying 35% gratuity for bad service. I ordered a side they never served me but charged me for it when I called their attention to it they told me they had run out of that. My bill was adjusted only because I noticed. The other thing was they had drinks of margaritas mojitos and sangria advertised at $6 I was charged $11.99 for my mojito. This is too many things to go wrong with my check if you go dont let them RIP you off
Giving 1 star because it has parking space. The food seemed ok, but after confirming at least 4 people out of 6 got sick from eating their food I won't give this spot another chance. Ambiance is not family friendly, unappropriate loud music playing at 5pm on Easter Sunday, and service was Terrible, seem like just order takers who are palying around and flirting.
Terrible service, waited to get menus for like five minutes at the table. Ordered our food only for the guy to come back and tell us they didn't have what we ordered. Then we ordered a churrasco ecuatoriano and it tasted horrible. The meat was so dry, there was no taste, overall terrible. We asked for the check and the server didn't care about the whole plate being barely touched. Oh and they also charge an automatic 15% tip gratuity...why?? It was a table for literally two people. This place was a disgrace to Ecuadorian food, what a shame.
IF YOU LOVE COLD FOOD AND LITERALLY AN HOUR AND A HALF OF WATING AFTER YOU’VE BEEN SEATED FOR Your FOOD TO ARRIVE, please do come to this place.. Im sorry to say but this place has really change over a year, from waiting to be seated ( which we can tolerate) to getting our food cold and not what we have ordered. I ordered an Entrana MEDIUM WELL and it came cold, had no choice to see if they can warm it up but by the time it came back i got an extra dry meat, order a bandeja paisa came out cold. Food was 6 out 10. Not a very wise choice to go. How ever I must add that at the time when paying the bill One of the staff was kind enough to apologize for the service.REALLY HOPE THIS PLACE WOULD CHANGE FOR THE BETTER.
THE . DELIVERY . NEVER . ARRIVED. Called after 58 minutes to check up on the order and the lady answered saying the delivery man left and is on his way. After 36 minutes, called back to check up. They never picked up. The delivery never came. This is my first bad review ever on a place.
They will overcharge you if you’re black because they are racist. $17 for chaletas that are listed on their menu for $11. I’m reporting to them to the BBB. It’s 2024 and that’s sad.
Service is so bad! Employees are so arrogant, rude and so slow! They take forever to even bring you a glass of water. Also their food is so expensive and not even we’ll prepared or good. They need to hire new people seriously.
The food was good, but we found a hair inside food. The service was horrible. No one came to ask if we was ok after delivering food. Waitress was there playing around and watching tv. The restaurant was almost empty. No one checked on us. Bad service,i guess the waitress dont care about the tables anymore since gratuity is already included. Why are we forced to leave a percentage if the service is horrible.
We use to come here for more than 10 years and now they changed the menu reduced considerably the dishes portions, food was not as good as before, not hot, and they give us an attitude when we was ordering with a simple requests, most of it the people working here it’s very rude. Change is good if you improve not when you reduce all, the food quantity, quality and specially bad service with a mandatory tip, it makes a 10+ years customer don’t want to come back and. I use to recommend this place. Not anymore
Disappointing Experience. Unfortunately, I had a very poor experience at this restaurant. The customer service was lacking, starting with the lady at the counter, Liliana, who was not welcoming and came across as quite arrogant. The food didn’t taste fresh, and to make things worse, the restaurant itself was not clean. I would not recommend this place based on my visit.
Very bad service, very rude people, the the taste of the food is bad, not recommended at all
Used to be one of the best, perhaps they change the cooks, I've had a fried fish that was like a cardboard, I believe they got straight from the freezer to the frier. The waitress told me that I had to pick a dish about the same price because the house won't loose a penny. Over all 15% tips charge in the check, if they think they deserve that wonderful, alittle too much for what I've got.
My family endured an appalling experience dining at this establishment. We ordered a fish-based dish, only to discover midway through the meal that a significant portion of the fish was rotten and had merely been fried over. This utterly destroyed the atmosphere. The establishment also suffers from a severe lack of hygiene protocols. Upon entering their sole bathroom, I was confronted with a filthy toilet seat, sink and floor. Moreover, the staff was extraordinarily rude and displayed a complete lack of human decency. To add insult to injury, I was compelled to pay an 18% tip, which they absolutely did not deserve.
My first order was great I ordered again and the food was not good. Not prepared as I requested and the Mote was rotted and foul smelling. Could not eat and can't order again. Just can not and that's a shame.
The food took a very long time to come out and when it came out they served one portion of the food as it sat on the table until the soup came. The soup came and it was cold. Very disappointing. The music is extremely loud and you could not have a conversation with the people at your table. Then they took the music off and the soccer game on the TV is loud. I have gone to a few Tropical restaurants and they were GREAT. This is by far the worst one ever.
The food was okey, but the customer service was horrible, I ordered a soup, she brought the soup and then she took it aways from me because it was for another customer, then she noticed that the other customer had a soup and she brought the soup back to me. I ordered seco de pollo and she brought carne asada, I told her that I ordered seco de pollo and she keep saying that no, so I told her show me the note she left and did not come back with the note, she did not bring the seco pollo, so I supposed to eat what ever she wants. They only put spoons, not forks. They take to long to bring the food. I had the worst experience with the worst customer service. There is no good customer service, they don't know the menu, and they don't know how to serve the customer. I don't recommend it at all.
The taste of the food was terrible. The proportions was not worth the price, and i was scammed into paying a tip! They took money from my card for a tip i didn’t offer to pay for. This was my first and last time going to that trash restaurant. The bill going up to nearly $100 was bad enough, let alone to steal money from me as a tip and making the whole bill overall more expensive?! The drinks itself was tasteless nothing but artificial flavors. If a bill has to be $100+ at least my drink should be freshly made. I will continue to report this restaurant for stealing from me!
The food was great but the service was horrible. Got our order wrong and then came to tell me that’s what I ordered. We ordered a side of avocado never got it. Then we waited like 30mins to get the bill. I got up myself to ask for the bill and a container to go. Then they have nerve to charge us a 15% mandatory tip when the service was horrible. Never came to our table to check if everything was okay. They looked like everything bothered them. Just horrible experience.
The food is good. The service is mediocre and your charged 20% regardless the number of people in your party. The food items are charged separately. In addition, there is a surcharge if you charge with your credit card. I suggest you go elsewhere. The food is just not worth the price point of charges.
