El Paseo Inn is a popular spot near Olvera Street known for its delicious, traditional Mexican food and lively atmosphere. The mole enchiladas and tableside guacamole are highly recommended. Some find it pricey, especially for drinks and the lack of complimentary chips and salsa.

This place is quintessentially Los Angeles Mexican Food in a nutshell. It's historic, the food is all made from scratch and the flavors as a result are magnificent.
It is an absolutely beautiful place to visit--and the food is probably the best there is--a rich history (almost 100 years) that is very much evidence of the beauty and majesty that is Los Angeles in the heart of Olivera Street.
El Rancho Grande, October 31, 2024, On 🎃Hollween Day👻 me & my family had came here to enjoy the best "Taquitos & 🥑 Guacamole Sauce" around here in (Olvera Street) is a true family tradition for years & their 🌮 Tacos & Enchilada's was just as good plus the beans & rice & salad you get with the combos or just as side orders. The Horchata & Jamaica was so delicious & tasty 😋 plus don't forget the 🌶️ chile salsa red or green. "Thank You" to your family for the years of great Spanish food & keeping the tradition alive. Viva! Marie Cajero & her family & descendants. 🇲🇽 🎉🎊 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'s Great Job! 😎👍
El Rancho Grande is a hidden gem that brings the flavors of Mexico to Los Angeles in the most authentic and delightful way possible. Located in [insert address], this restaurant has quickly become one of my favorite go-to spots for Mexican cuisine. The moment you step inside El Rancho Grande, you're greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The rustic decor, colorful artwork, and traditional music create an ambiance that immediately transports you to Mexico. It's the perfect setting for a memorable dining experience. The menu at El Rancho Grande is a true celebration of Mexican culinary traditions. From classic dishes like enchiladas and tacos to more unique specialties, they offer a wide variety of options that cater to every palate. The flavors are rich, vibrant, and incredibly satisfying. Every bite is a taste of Mexico's finest ingredients and culinary techniques. One of the standout dishes at El Rancho Grande is their mouthwatering carne asada. The meat is tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned, making it an absolute treat for the taste buds. Paired with their homemade salsas and freshly made tortillas, it's a true delight that keeps me coming back for more.
It’s looks pretty longtime of his owner still same person ever since my first came here a El Rancho Grande restaurant on Olivera Street in Spring of 1993s, He’s been here almost over than years because of his family business was here, ( I Dunno 🤷♂️, I thinks possible dat early in 1930s) Right here have a too small space with eight tables. Depending how popular gets nearly crowded on weekends and less crowds of the weeks. I liked here because it’s inexpensive worthy food really deliciously it! Yum! 😋
This place has a soft spot in my heart, been coming since I was a child and my parents came to eat here since the 70's. Nacho (the tall gentleman) is always friendly, takes a quick order, and preps your food. You're here for an affordable, genuine home style meal, taquitos in particular. Prices have closely crept up over the years but you can get a meal for around $12 (including small drink). I usually order a #4 - 2 taquitos 1 cheese enchilada, beans with cheese and iceberg salad with tomatoes, and add an extra order of taquitos just to make my trip with it. It's a small dine-in with quick turnover on the tables. All meals are made as soon as you order so everything is fresh. My only complaint is that the sauces are not spicy, very mild, BUT they have good flavor. Tacos, bean and cheese burritos, enchiladas, sopes, quesadillas, and tostadas. Make sure to wash it all down with an horchata or Jamaica. Be warned, parking is a pain in the general area. There's a small parking lot directly behind Rancho Grande but they charge by time if you just want to make a quick stop (and I mean quick) to avoid the $15+ flat fee parking lots around.
Absolutely wonderful. I was walking around while waiting for a connecting train, and found this gem. I felt so welcomed! They made me a delicious breakfast and horchata, and my soul was full ☺️🌶️
I loved the food and especially their service. They were on top of it. Checking to see if everything was good.
I’ve enjoyed dining at El Rancho Grande several times, especially for their tasty tacos and classic Mexican favorites. The ingredients are fresh, and the portions are quite hearty. It’s a great place for a relaxed, satisfying meal.
My wife and I have enjoyed the “Numero tres” and multiple “dos de dos” for over 40 years. The family are always kind and respectful and the Taquitos are the bomb. My wife’s grandmother use to take her boys (my father in law) back in the 1940’s. Now my children love to go and hopefully soon they’ll bring their children to continue in the enjoyment of “Una numero tres por favor!” Thank you El Rancho Grande for being such a wonderful memory for our families. God bless you with many more memories to come.
Very tasty food, friendly staff, versatile atmosphere
Visited today and had an amazing experience! The service was top-notch, definitely a 5/5. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The atmosphere is lovely and inviting, with a beautiful patio that’s perfect for a relaxing meal. It’s lively but not too loud, making it comfortable for families. As for the food, the cheese enchiladas were absolutely delicious—rich, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. My daughter loved the quesadilla, which was simple yet tasty. Overall, this is a fantastic spot for both adults and kids!
We Sat in the bar area for lunch with apps and sangria. German was awesome, delightful and provided excellent service. Had an excellent meal. thank you for the good memories. Located in a fun 200-year-old building according to our server. Love the overall vibe and decor.
Traditional Mexican food and innovative Margaritas. Come hungry and leave happy and stuffed. Amazingly busy and fun especially after a grande margarita. Table side guacamole added to the entertainment. The staff was attentive and made the meal an experience. Right in the heart of Olvera Street. Don’t miss out.
It was my first time here and they did not disappoint. The service was quick and the food was delicious. The chips and salsa started the meal. The chips were light and crispy. Beverages came quickly and the wait was minimal for the food. I ordered the mole enchiladas which were satisfying and filling. I'll definitely return for another meal when I can.
Delicious food. This was the first time being here. I love moles so I had to try it here. It was a sweet type of mole that was more red than black. We also ordered guacamole 🥑 and chips that was made in front of us. We also had machaca which I really liked because it wasn’t as salty and it usually is since it is made with dry salted meat. We also had coffee, mimosas and bloody Maries which I forgot to take pictures of but were delicious. This restaurant was in a nice place with lots of vendors near by. Staff was friendly and place was beautiful and clean. Will be coming back soon.
Food was excellent. Highly recommend the Chicken Enchiladas de Mole. The Table Gucamole was very delicious. Only complaint was our waiter went on break before taking our order. However, the young lady who made our Gucamole saved the day and took care of us until our waiter came back. Sorry about the Photos, I started eating before taking the pictures.
Really enjoyed eating here! Walked in on a Saturday a little after noon with a group of four after exploring Olvera Street. The complimentary chips and salsa were addictive. The sopes were excellent - really good base, and both the carnitas and shredded beef toppings were very flavorful and well-cooked. The refried beans were delicious, and I enjoyed the rice as well. The flan was incredible - good firmness, yet still light, and the caramel was luxurious. Would certainly eat there again!
I went with my family and we had a lovely time, the service was excellent all the staff were so friendly. I made a HUGE mistake I didn’t order enchiladas de mole!! And I try a little bit and was delicious, I can say is the best mole that I ever ate! I got a albóndigas soup or was good but after that bite of mole I was sad lol. Sorry for the pictures It was too late
Took the metrolink to Olvera Street to get some good eats! After reading a few reviews, our first stop was El Rancho Grande. Very friendly, reasonable prices and good food.
It is a small place in the middle of the market. The food was delicious. The waiter was nice and it was not so expensive.
Quick service Mexican restaurant. Menu is pretty limited, but seem willing to make something not in the menu, if it's a variation of something they serve. The enchiladas were very good and flavorful, the taquitos were a bit dry with minimal filling inside. The red salsa was amazing, would definitely recommend buying some chips and red salsa. Close/convenient walking distance to LA Union train station
There are many taquerias on Olvera Street, but our favorite has been El Rancho Grande. Their Taquitos and Guacamole Sauce are the best in my opinion. Their tacos and enchiladas are also very good. The service is always good and they’re usually packed, just wait your turn for a table and be ready to enjoy delicious Taquitos. There is a small lot close to the entrance on one side and two big lots on the other side.
My family went to olvera St for the day and it was great !! So to end the day stopped at El Rancho Grande and it was awesome for us 😍. Took pics with pepe & Jr. Owner and cook.🤣🤣. We even had Mariachi come play a few tunes to top the day off..
Food was Alright customer service was excellent but the food is not for me but other people may like it. It’s something different
Pretty good experience with pretty good food in a cool old place 😀
Disclaimer: Food reviews are subjective. What I enjoy, you may not—and just because I don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s bad. It simply means it wasn’t to my personal taste. With that said, here’s my review. 🍽️ What I Ordered: Mexican Bowl Chicken with Mole Poblano ⭐ Food Review: Both dishes were absolutely delicious. The Mexican Bowl really stood out—it was packed with Mexican rice, black beans, corn, chicken, onions, bell peppers, guacamole, and sour cream. Every ingredient worked perfectly together, and the flavors were well balanced and satisfying. The Chicken with Mole Poblano was just as impressive. The chicken was smothered in a rich, velvety mole sauce, topped with sesame seeds, and served with rice, refried beans, and your choice of corn or flour tortillas. The mole had great depth and flavor without being overpowering. 🤝 Service: VThe service was amazing. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and helpful throughout my visit. 🏛️ Atmosphere: VI loved the atmosphere—it truly captures the charm and history of Olvera Street and makes the dining experience even better. 🔁 Would I Return? Yes, absolutely. I’d definitely come back and recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
While on the pricier side, El Paseo Inn is absolutely delicious. Just steps away from Union Station, it’s the only real highlight of having to be in downtown L.A. The staff were friendly, and the service was prompt. We ordered two tacos and the tomato shrimp—both were excellent. The chips and salsa were fresh and flavorful, with the salsa verde being my favorite. A great spot if you’re in the area and don’t mind spending a bit more.
*Delayed post from July ‘25 El Paseo Inn is located walking distance from Union Station off Olvera Street next to one of the oldest pueblos in LA. The area is all about pedestrians with tons of shops selling souvenirs and street food everywhere. The restaurant itself is massive with both an outdoor patio and two large indoor seating areas. The decorations are cute and well maintained, perfect for a large family gathering or special occasion. We visited on a Sunday and discovered they had a mariachi band getting ready to perform that night as they do weekly. The portions here are massive, so be prepared to share with the table! We ordered the nachos with half chicken and half steak. The plate was truly a giant pile of tortillas, cheese, meat, and guacamole. The guacamole was by far the star of the plate and I think it would have been worth ordering just that as an appetizer, especially if you get the tableside option since you get an experience when they make it in front of you. We also had the Sepulveda Enchiladas which were thankfully not too greasy, but did have a ton of cheese on top. Overall I would say the food here is alright. It’s the average Mexican food you expect when you go to a neighborhood restaurant: tastes good, well seasoned, maybe some hiccups, but nothing to fret about. It isn't a place with unique dishes or super high quality food, but it’s decent and you’ll be satisfied.
We ordered Albondigas, Enchiladas Rojas plate, Carnitas plate, and Burrito en salsa verde. Everything was good and portions are very generous, but prices are a little high. The albondigas just had a little too much spices (not hot, but lingering). The place just needs an update. Service was excellent, attentive, and fast. Support The Placita Olvera, I really had fun visiting The Avila Adobe house, the many stores (which are in danger to close because of the lack of visitors)
It was a great last min stop while waiting for our train at Union. The host who originally sat us didn't seem like he was in a good mood, so my mother and I almost just left. And then, of course, we saw another table get their food and drinks, which smelled delicious, so here we are. We originally chose to sit inside because of the old building and a history, but the tables were so clutched together period they try to sit us at a long table that looked uncomfortable and it was too crowded. I would recommend the inside for groups of 5 or more. Thankfully, the inside had beautiful decorations, but outside made more sense. Since we had suitcases that need to be put next to us. Of course, this being a touristic area, we knew not to order a lot of food.So we instead got the sizzling fajitas.Just the chicken and Carne asada. It was plenty enough for my mother and I to share and then I saw the mitchellatus so I had to take advantage since I clearly was not going to be driving one was just enough. I'm glad we gave the place a good shot because it was delicious food. I'm not going to hold the host accountable for my first experience. I would definitely return, especially if I'm waiting for a train or bus. Also one of the best things is right. If you're done eating, you could just walk around and shop.
I’ve visited this restaurant before and enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere, which made my most recent visit—on the last day of the Día de los Muertos event—especially disappointing. Upon arrival, I was informed that the kitchen was no longer accepting food orders and that only drinks were being served. I accepted this and decided to stay for a drink. However, once seated, I noticed that multiple tables around me were receiving food. When I asked my waitress for clarification, she confirmed that food orders were, in fact, still being accepted. Despite this, I was still unable to order even a small bowl of guacamole. Watching every table around me receive food while I was repeatedly told I could not place an order left me feeling frustrated and dismissed. Even nearby guests noticed the inconsistency and questioned why I was being treated differently. What made this experience particularly disheartening is that I have always spoken highly of this restaurant in the past. Unfortunately, this visit left me feeling overlooked—almost as if my presence as a solo diner did not merit the same level of service and attention as larger parties.
Lukewarm enchilada with unmelted cheese. It seemed like they just didn't care enough to heat it up. There is so much good Mexican food in LA, I regretted going here.
The service is good and the waiters are attentive. To preface this review I am Mexican myself. This is a mexican restaurant with no complimentary chips and salsa which was a shock. $7 for mediocre agua de jamaica that comes with no refills. Overpriced margs and carne asada that is bland, everyone agreed at the table that it was bland. I wouldn't come to this place again on my accord, I'd rather go somewhere else or support one of the many street vendors.
Very disappointed with my last visit with dia de los muertos - drove from nevada very excited about this day. They were busy so I stood by the counter watching this man who looked like the owner just walk back and forth - people on the tables waiting for their food. After like 15 minutes standing there I did not ever get acknowledged by this man. The service is terrible. If you can organize yourself and get and order of fried tacos in timely manner then there's some work to be done. Unfortunately had to to drive (after paying 20 dollars for parking) to king taco.
I’m not Mexican but I respect the Mexican Food and Enjoy most of it but Today I had the most Disgusting Food from This Restaurant I Order Beef and Chicken Fajitas it was White onions and few pieces of skin red onions Disgusting I will give them 0 stars, service 1 stars, I don’t care about Price all we ask is a Quality of meat not microwave chicken was also dry as my shoe sole, Margarita was cheap red color water with the cheapest flavor, DO NOT GO TO THIS LOW QUALITY RESTAURANT YOU BETTER OFF GETTING TACOS FROM STREET VENDORS, Almost $200 down the Toilet!
This was an incredibly disappointing and unacceptable dining experience. We were rushed from the moment we sat down, the food was mediocre, and the prices were far too high for the level of service we received. Even worse, unused plates were placed on our table, we set our dirty napkins on them, and I watched the busser knock the napkins off and put the plates back in the closet to be reused. That is unsanitary and absolutely disgusting — it raised serious concerns about whether anything in this restaurant is handled safely. The manager showed no real care or concern. He gave a brief apology and never returned when I asked to speak with him again. Nothing was offered to make the situation right — not even something as small as comping a soda — despite how upset and uncomfortable we were. To make matters worse, after we asked for the check, we waited another 15 minutes. It wasn’t until I went inside and stood there waiting that someone finally handed it to me. For the price we paid, this level of service and sanitation is unacceptable. I would not recommend dining here
