I was pleasantly surprised when I found this gem in the back of the shopping center on Slauson in between Overhill and Angeles Vista. Apparently everyone else is hip to this kool coffee house cause it was packed in the middle of the day. The aroma of great coffee, historic photos, kool art, flat screens, 2 Pac quotes on the wall and happy people enjoying their favorite cup of joe makes this coffee house feel very cozy! I had a double espresso with a shot of oatmilk and the roast was delicious very high quality. The menu is nice and simple. It includes some delicious food items as well. All and all if you are looking for a new coffee house that really hits the mark, do yourself a favor and walk in this spot! TIPS: GET THE MACHA-CHATA!!! (Your Welcome)
What a wonderful experience! From the friendly staff greeting my party of 5 upon arrival, the amazing food, the jammin’ playlist this was most definitely a top tier experience while visiting LA! We will definitely be returning to HillTop🫶🏽
If you walk or bike up the hill on Slauson to get here, you’ve earned yourself one of the best local cafes south of the 10. I’ve tried the toast with smoked salmon as well as an açaí bowl — both worthy bites. The pistachio latte is also incredible if you’re in need of some caffeine with a twist. I love that they keep local art on rotation, there’s always something beautiful to admire. Come support Hilltop!
Just wow. I had the breakfast burrito and that ish was to die for. I was definitely surprised with the taste and how fast I devoured it lol. I also got a tea and it was perfect for me. My gf enjoyed her food as well. The atmosphere was great too and it was a perfect place and way to start our day. Cheers from FL
Everything we ordered from here was insanely delicious. I don’t usually order lattes, but I wish I did from here because I was grabbing sips from my girlfriend’s Black Rose Latte every chance I got. I ordered the Avocado Droptop and would definitely recommend.
This is a nice coffee bar in the oddest location. The clients are professionals, the atmosphere is Dark But modern. Many people come here after jury duty in Inglewood. Parking is in the back. I would not make a special trip to have coffee here, but it's a good place to meet if one person is coming from midtown and the other person is coming from the LAX area.
Trendy, southwest side vibe, great food, smooth jazz - neo soul soundtrack playing in the background and a warm lavendar/almond milk latte helping to cure cold hands and warm your inside, while creating an explosion on your palate. Hilltop cafe has excellent service, just keep it polite and you will have the quickest possible service. Well return and definently recommend.
Great coffee! Great vibe! Great customer service. Good food. We ordered the vanilla latte, beignets and churros with Nutella. All items made fresh to order. Good quality, medium roasted espresso beans. The young lady (wish I could remember her name) was awesome, she was extremely patient while i was ordering as well as extremely knowledgeable about the menu. An abundance of parking and outlets for your charger and/or laptop. Overall incredibly positive experience and will return in the near future.
Amazing neighborhood cafe! I’ve tried many items on the menu and they have all been delicious. Would highly recommend!
The açaí bowl is thick, fresh, and tastes like dessert in disguise — perfect fruit, perfect crunch. And the avocado breakfast sandwich? Creamy, seasoned, and actually satisfying. No bland vibes whatsoever. Short version: it’s delicious, it’s consistent, and I’d 100% go back tomorrow.
If you know, you know. Hilltop isn’t just a coffee spot—it’s a vibe. The menu has the kind of range that keeps you coming back, whether you’re pulling up for a quick latte, sliding in for a team huddle, or knocking out a few emails like you’re running the world from your laptop. The atmosphere is warm, creative, and welcoming—exactly the kind of place where conversations flow as easily as the coffee. This morning, since we were having church at home, I put Hilltop to the test and ordered two of their shrimp breakfast bowls—and let me tell you, this dish preaches. Think perfectly seasoned shrimp—tender with just the right sear—laid over a hearty base of fluffy jasmine rice. Add in velvety scrambled eggs, roasted sweet potatoes with that caramelized edge, and fresh sautéed kale that gives you that “I’m still eating healthy” balance. Drizzle on their house-made sauce (that hits somewhere between tangy and soulful), and you’ve got a bowl that feels like Sunday brunch and grandma’s kitchen got together and made magic. Hilltop keeps finding ways to impress me, whether I’m in there in person or bringing it home. If you haven’t pulled up yet, do yourself a favor. And if you’re already a regular, you know why I keep raving. 👉🏾 Check out my profile for more spots where food, culture, and community collide.
We made a stop at this spot after a quick google search before heading back to San Diego! It was delicious! The vanilla latte I got was so tasty. We also ordered a breakfast burrito and breakfast sandwich which were both yummy as well. Overall super impressed with the flavors. The location is in the back of the building by the parking lot which took us a minute to figure out. Glad we stopped and will be back if I am ever close by.
Cool vibe of this cafe tucked away in the back of this shared space pavilion. Seating for about 30, service was excellent for our to go order. Ordered the Soul Bowl (which was outstanding!) and the short rib grilled cheese which was tasty and filling. Two of us split these for lunch. Can't wait to go back and try more of the menu.
Spontaneous stop at this inspirational and uplifting venue 👏🏽Must try the 🪻 latte and beignets with berry dip 😋 My daughter tried the breakfast sandwich and it was good. I am a tater tots lover and on a mission in trying as many as I can! Delicious with spicy mayo sauce 👌🏽Go visit and enjoy the variety of options in the menu.
Love this location. Lots of parking. Recommend the breakfast sandwich and add chicken.
You can’t see the location from the street, down the breezeway, the restaurant was busy but the wait isn’t bad. I had a coffee and beignets to start. The coffee was good, and the beignets were just ok, it was more like a powdered doughnut round. After my friend arrived we all got the breakfast sandwich. It was good but I just they had white American cheese versus yellow. It’s was hard to get a table, I felt like we played musical chairs but we were finally able to get a table for 3 people. I did get cornbread for later and it was 🔥🔥. I wouldn’t mind going back for coffee and cornbread! Lastly there’s a parking lot in the back or on the street in the front.
This is a really special place. I really love what this black owned business is really doing here. The service is amazing. The staff are all really friendly. If your looking for a nice breakfast/brunch spot with a vibe I recommend this Cafe. The parking is free and nearby, it's behind the Cafe. I ordered the waffles with a berry compote and a vanilla latte with oat milk and it was AMAZING!! My partner ordered the bangin breakfast sandwich and he really loved it and he's picky. I encourage everyone to try this cafe and support your local back owned business. I came to the location on LA Brea and Saluson.
Visited LA and as a fan of Issa I had to stop by Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen! This coffee shop did not disappoint! I had the fish sandwich and peach Palmer. Highly recommend. Atmosphere was laid back and cool not to mention this place was full of diverse people doing work, sipping coffee and having conversation. Absolutely loved it!
A really cool cafe. Great service that was friendly and quick. It was really crowded the afternoon I was there, so seating was limited but great food and tea! Black owned 💪🏾 and GORGEOUS. A few small tables outside.

Highly recommend. Great vibe. Delicious coffee. I had the black rose latte it was incredible. I dont live in LA, but go often for concerts. This will be my go to place for coffee.
Chorizo Croissant was served cold unfortunately, flavor was nice but hard to enjoy it in it's a solid cold form state. The vanilla lattes syrup was a bit too sweet for my liking. Definitely will come here again though to give a proper 2nd chance as the ambiance and aesthetic are really comfortable and welcoming.
Nice cafe with delicious food. The superfood bowl was just what I needed to get my fruits and veggies in. There was window seats and large tables. There were few small tables outside in the shade. Service was okay but wasnt exactly friendly.I wish the hot tea would have more of a variety other than a cheap teabag I can buy anywhere. Parking was plentiful, thankfully!
Finally made it to our community's gem. It's definitely the cornerstone of the plaza - bringing life and smooth vibes. We purchased a few items from the menu and was pleased with all of our decisions. The cornbread is to die for! It's for the sweet cornbread lover and doesn't disappoint. I did add some honey to my lemonade as it was a bit lemony for me. Overall - a great addition to the hood and a great place for quick and healthy eats!
Hilltop's Slauson location has a strong neighborhood vibe and is more community focused, with a large wall full artworks from the black community, which is pretty cool. There are plenty of seatings to enjoy the meal or conversations. I had a quick visit and my coffee was ok, service was friendly.
Tremendous!! Swung by on a cozy fall Saturday morning for my dose of cappuccino! It was divine!! I was waiting outside and they even walked the drink out to me, now that's service. Prob one of my favorite cappuccinos of 2020 (and I drink a lot of coffee from everywhere)! Go here and support local businesses! They even have a small free book library outside so I'll bring books to donate next time. 🔥🥰☕☕☕

I went in to get a small order. First time here though I live up the Vista. Firstly, that door…anywho, the cashier was a young black woman without an ounce of happiness on her face as we approached. Not even welcoming us or asking if we needed time. It was overall poor customer service. Wasn’t even polite to my boys. We waited and it was getting a little long for what we ordered so I went up to the counter. The young man working with the most beautiful dark skin and high cheekbones also, looked like he’d never been happy. I guess he’s the only barista and what not but…idk I worked in food service I didn’t see a third, expediter. One of us got a matcha and shortly claimed it to be the worst one they’ve had and the simple drink I had, I could’ve gone to the liquor store for a juice. It just wasn’t pleasant enough to visit again.
Place is great. Location Awesome. Nice vibe. But the Vegan menu options needs more thought into it. This is my 2nd time visiting and this time I ordered the Buffalo Cauliflower Bowl. It lacks creativity, flavor and depth. Not worth it at all. The leading star is Cauliflower and there were only 3 small florets in my $12.50 bowl with a bunch of bland corn, bland blonde quinoa and steamed diced carrots?? With a sprinkle of beautiful & delicious baby kale & oak leaves. Give me more GREENS. The ranch dressing taste nice... just wish it too was vegan. I added the slices of avocado $3.00. I'm all about supporting small business...but just like any other business...it has to be GOOD
The vibe is awesome here and definitely a good place for computer work. The flavored lattes are delicious, I tried the pistachio and lavender. The food was really delicious on my first visit, so much so that I came back that Sunday and it was a huge difference in the food experience. You pay a good amount for the food, wait about 20 minutes just to get cold breakfast. Not even warm. My breakfast burrito is supposed to have cheddar cheese and there was none. The same for the Buenos dias bowl. The only warm items were the tater tots I had for a side. I could have said something but it was not worth adding extra work load to the employees which are working non stop AND have to wait another 20-30 minutes.
Came here for breakfast with my sister. It was pretty empty, so food and service was quick. I got the bangin breakfast sandwich and the horchata matcha latte. My sister got the breakfast burrito and hazelnut latte. Food and drinks were pretty expensive for the quality. The latte was amazing but my matcha latte was definitely not the greatest. We both agreed the food lacked some seasoning and flavor. The atmosphere, however was great with music! Lots of tables perfect for studying or getting work done.

Good coffee, nice vibe. But consistently slow. They prioritize mobile orders over in person visits. Good coffee but if for a 15+ min wait the last 3 times I’ve come, giving it a pass next time. They need to work on some efficiencies.

Come on guys. I asked for extra eggs in my breakfast burrito and I basically got minus eggs all together. Whyyyyyy. If I got it in store I would’ve sent it back…. It’s $23!! I hit my fat and carb goal for the day. Gonna go eat protein powder for the next 15 hours. 🤦♂️ low protein portions even when asked for extra deserves 2 stars. Sorry.

They take too long. They cost too much for a simple breakfast. And when I complained, the chef did not cook my bacon until done!!! I know serving me at all was a problem. I'm not good enough to spend my money? Elite is not anywhere in the kitchen cooking. Or in service at all..none of us are too good to give or receive Excellent customer service. I will not be back. Americans like me set the standards, and they are tradition in my culture!!! Get it right.
Abhorrent service. I’ve never been treated with such disdain, nor attitude by a service worker. Second day in a row visiting this coffee shop in our new neighborhood. Yesterday my wife’s coffee was scalding hot, while mine was lukewarm. I’m curious to know how they even made that happen. We overlooked the experience and went back today. After two groups that arrived and ordered drinks after me were served theirs first, I went to the bar to make sure my order hadn’t been lost. The so called barista gave me so much attitude, I was dumbfounded. When she finally made our order she even made a point to not differentiate which coffee was regular and which was decaf. Avoid this place unless you want to be treated like crap but “service” persons.
So I’ve been coming to Hilltop literally since it opened. When it first opened I remember when food would sell out, then they got into a groove of amazing food and great service. Lately that had gone down each time I go. This last time(this morning) was the last straw unfortunately. I ordered the Issa’s Ritual smoothie and some tater tots with extra spicy mayo. I waited about 25 minutes for those items and only got the smoothie after reminding the barista that I have been waiting on the smoothie. It was sitting in the blender. I understand they are busy but it seems they have been understaffed for months now. I’m patient I can wait, the egregious part was that my tots were ice cold and one of the spicy mayos was very much spoiled. I opened it and immediately knew it was bad. It smelled foul and was not even the same color as the first one I received. I felt nauseous after opening it and couldn’t finish the cold tots. The smoothie was really good but I can’t justify the price or the wait times for it. I really used to love hilltop and would go almost daily. I can no longer support until they get things together up there. 😞
I had a horrible time here, as a queer poc I walked in excited to try this new local coffee shop. And The vibes were immediately not it!! Baristas were slammed dunk on a weekend to people who seemed to not even pay for their food? So bless their hearts for trying tend to seemingly snooby people, who I never once saw pay!! Barista who tended to me was kind and apologetic on something that wasn’t even their fault… give him an extra paid 15… The people here on the weekend also seemed off, as I was openly wearing my pride pin and accessories. Food was okay, crowd was mediocre… Baristas were kind… i wish I had also gotten free food… just everything about this place seemed like nothing it was advertised as.. not a safe space :/ man yall hyped this up too much… free my barista kings n queens…
