This is my go to restaurant on the west side. My go to dish is the pork katsu curry but the croquettes are a must, the beef udon is a must, the ginger pork is a must, the Tokyo roll is a must; just everything I’ve eaten from here has been so flavorful and delicious. The prices are so decent, not just for west la literally anywhere in the USA in 2025. If you can show me a place with the same or better quality for the price, you’re probably a mythical creature in whatever fever dream I’m having. Pictured is my go to meal from last night that made me remember I needed to review this place.
I came here for dinner on a Saturday evening after 6:30pm. It wasn't too busy, but I noticed there were customers picking up their orders. There's a decent amount of seating (as long as you're not in a large group), so I decided to dine in. The ambiance is very cozy and comfortable. I ordered a combo plate of Chicken Teriyaki and Beef Teriyaki. It was reasonably cheap (below $14 including tip) for a combo plate with steamed rice, sliced oranges and blanched bean sprouts. Within 5 minutes, my order was ready. The owner was very cordial that she brought my order to my table. The Chicken Teriyaki was perfectly grilled, glazed, tender and the sauce was not too salty unlike other chain restaurants. The beef was thinly sliced and coated with the same teriyaki glaze. However, the beef's texture was fragile that it could have been more tender and meatier. The bean sprouts were just right and perfectly seasoned in sesame oil. Tokyo Fast Food is a great spot for quick authentic Japanese food fixings. I'll definitely return to try their sushi, tempura and other teriyaki dishes. They make their plates fresh, hot and on the spot in the Westside!
Japanese joints are so hit/miss in socal. Normally there’s a trade off with price and quality. This place is a great exception! This no frills mom and pop spot focuses on quality fast Japanese food for a great price. Chicken karaage and Cali rolls were great. Zero complaints! Great portions. Staff are very warm and kind. Ordering online was a breeze. Weekday noon order was ready for pickup in 10-15 minutes. If I’m ever in the area again I will definitely come back!
Very tasty and traditional asian food. 5 star restaurant! Friendly stuff, clean interior, low price. I like this place for quiet and not much people in lunch time. They have parking, it's a big plus) Chicken udon is my favorite noodle soup here, simple but really tasty :)
Total hidden gem! Really nice, affordable, family run, quality place that is so hard to find on the west side. We got a bunch of sushi from them - super tasty, fresh, and great portions. Will be back for sure
Super excited to finally get some take out here. After a long day of work, it was really awesome to have such a filling meal. Katsu curry, chicken! Was tasty and well priced. Staff are friendly
Been eating here for the last 8 years whenever I am on the west side. So fresh, fluffy warm rice. rolls made to order. so affordable , I will always come here. Owners are so kind and friendly and obviously hard working. This is my favorite type of sushi place. 10/10 thank you <3
What a comforting place. This restaurant feels like a nice hug after a long hard day at work. Everything from the friendly Japanese workers who run the shop to the 90s feel of the decor makes me feel right at home. The food is here what I wish I can eat every day at home. Nutritious, quick, and delicious.
Authentic Japanese food and the price is also unbeatable. I love the homey vibes too
I was craving tonkatsu and came here and was SO satisfied! The lady at the counter was so sweet and reminded me of my mom, and the tonkatsu was delicious and crispy! It also came with a croquette which i was not expecting, and it was honestly the best one i’ve ever had; so delicate and light and crispy!! 10/10 recommend :))
It was a nice and clean, no frills Japanese fast food. The prices were very affordable and the portions were very generous. Easy parking in lot and pretty quick service.
Great low key Japanese food spot! Cheap prices and quality food. Ordered the Beef Yakisoba and it was divine. Check this place out for a quick bite anytime. I will be back!
I have had wonderful meals here since 1990 during my University high school days. To date this is my go to spot for fast friendly home cooked Japanese meals at an honest price. I eat here 2-3 times a week and it has never disappointed. Yes we have a lot of options like Nobu or other high priced sushi spots which are great for social media posting but for simple down to earth meals they wont disappoint. A bit of advise you can substitute for Brown rice, skinless chicken, or ask for it well done.
My Japanese friend said it was like eating her mom's cooking. Probably my go-to for Japanese food in West LA.
I’ve lived a few blocks from these restaurant for years and honestly didn’t even know it was there till recently. I stopped in a few nights ago to get a to go order and I admit this place is a fun little hidden gem in the West LA area. Walking in you definitely feel like you walked into a hole in the wall restaurant straight out of the late 80’s, early 90’s. All the teal and white coloring gives the place a retro look. The staff was super friendly and didn’t try to rush me to order. Ordering was a bit tough as their menu is spread out across nearly three walls. Most of the items have pictures of the food, but several things I had to ask about. So unless you know what you want going in, it may take a few mins to go through the entire menu. Still it was easy to order once I figured out what I wanted. There isn’t a ton of seating and tables, but I was able to find somewhere to wait after placing my order. They seemed busy the night I went in as it took about 30-35 mins for my order to be ready which is totally fine as it was all made fresh which I appreciate. I went simple and just got their Beef Teriyaki Dinner and a side of the Vegetable Tempura. The food was all good, though I wish there was some more pieces of the Tempura given the price point. Sides that, all of it was tasty and I am glad I finally checked this local neighborhood staple out!
Probably the best Katsu I’ve had in Los Angeles by far food was great place was great and staff was really nice reminded me of being back in Japan and living there again would highly recommend visiting to eat some good food
You get a LOT of good food here for a great price. I gave it 4 ⭐ for service and atmosphere because the waiters were standing a not far away and I felt like they were watching us the whole time we were there.
My family and I have been going to this place for years and I mean years. The service is pretty fast and the food is delicious. This our spot and it becomes the 'spot' for everyone we bring. Great for co-workers, family, and friend eating sessions. Shout out to the waiter Andy :). Hes so serious but hes 🔥
We love Hop Li! This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in all of LA. It’s a hidden gem. My great grandparents ate here. Prices are affordable and you get a ton of food. Service is super fast and efficient; we love Warren and Andy. There's a free parking lot right across the street. Some recommended dishes: hot and sour soup, walnut shrimp, any seafood dish, Yang Chow fried rice, braised string beans, three flavor sizzling rice soup, Westlake beef soup, kung pao chicken, lo mein, chow mein. They can adjust if you want it spicy or not. There are two other locations in West LA.
Recommended by a friend. Came here alone at lunch time. I was not the only single diner. Lots of seating. People picking up Togo orders and and large parties coming in. Very clean. Quick service but they did not speak English and not very attentive. Food was delicious. Smaller portions for the lunch specials, ordered a side of fried rice, there are no substitutes allowed. Fresh lobsters in the glass tanks. Will recommend and would likely return.
This is probably my #1 Chinese food restraining in downtown Los Angeles. I’ve been going here for years and it has consistently delivered delicious authentic Chinese food. We ordered the chicken corn soup, orange peel chicken, walnut shrimp and the house special chow mein crispy noodle. The chicken corn soup is one of the best in the business! My favorite soup and the orange chicken is also one my favorite versions of this dish. The walnut shrimp is also excellent and the chowmein house special noodles was a great entree and I highly recommend it. Parking is limited to street and across the street. Overall it’s a great Chinese food spot.
Been coming here for 30 years! Always great tasty foods and service. Many local downtown employees a d law enforcement come here to eat. That honey pepper fish...bomb! I use to order the Mongolian beef, that was good too. The presentation of food just seems more clean, vibrant and fresh. Parking is a bit tricky...there are only few slots in front of the restaurant, but across the street they have more. There is also street.
This place is a hidden gem of Chinatown!!! It’s beautiful inside and the food is delicious and service is attentive! Tea is complimentary, we ordered orange peel chicken, green beans, egg foo young, walnut shrimp, stuffed shrimp, wonton soup, foo chow fried rice, beef lo mein, chicken with cream corn soup, and kung pao chicken. Their fortune cookie tastes great too! There is free parking across the street in an open lot or street parking.
Great tempura batter is just right not too thick not too thin crispy just the right amount. 🍤⛩ No restrooms, table service, or all you can drink. 🚽🛋⛲ Parking is squeezy 🚗 Menu is simple and good 📖 Sushi is yummy for the price. 🍣 Very cute location🐱 Quaint private quiet📴 Good for meeting a friend not good for date night. Also great for groups. 👭👬🏻 Simple honest straightforward🥊 Service was good and authentic🇯🇵 The staff was accommodating to my eating needs. 👨🏻🍳👩🏻🍳
This place has good food at a reasonable price! Looks like family owned. No frills but tasty. Not many places especially in Santa Monica where you can get by under 15 bucks!
I recently tried Hop Li Seafood Restaurant, and I found the shrimp and soup to be quite good. The fish, however, was amazing and very tasty! The service was excellent and attentive, and the price was very reasonable for the quality of service. The interior area features some nice Chinese art. The only drawback I noticed was the restroom, which wasn't in the best condition, and the floor was slippery
Went here because it is close to my apartment for some quick takeout. I ordered the short ribs with black pepper sauce, and while the quantity was impressive, the meat quality (and coating?) wasn’t all that great. Everyone was nice and service for fast, so four stars for that!
Food is super delicious, I never tried crispy chow mein but they sure did not disappoint! The food is a little on the pricey side but the portions are big we can always eat 4-7 of us out of one plate of each item. Staff is cool, and the food comes out in a good time and hot! They serve the soup for you, and they have big family tables that have a spinning glass in the center for easier reach.
The food is just simply exquisite. The kitchen staff really deserves the credit. Once we ordered the food, it was on our table in a matter of minutes. The portions are very generous, and the prices justify the quality and portions of the food. The waiting staff is where the experience becomes tainted. The waiters are not very friendly nor attentive, and from my experience I had to constantly ask for water for our table. If you can bypass this less-than-stellar service, you will be rewarded with the superb tasting food. The restrooms are in desperate need of attention, some stall doors don't lock, they need to clean it more often. There is a small dedicated parking lot across from the restaurant. You can always find street parking or better yet, take Metro Gold Line to get to Chinatown.
I used to come here a lot back in the day and it was always good, better be since their prices are very inflated. I got the crispy chicken and it was good but a little dry. I got the house chow mein and it was a little flat, a little old. Nevertheless, just a quick pick up after work and after a long week. The pork chops I remember were tasty too
I come here usually on Fridays after 7pm and the gentlemen who’s at the register has a NASTY ATTITUDE EVERY SINGLE TIME . doesn’t welcome us in , we say please he doesn’t reply back , doesn’t do conversation . Just seems so grumpy all the time . Maybe he’s racism because he will welcome other people and not I . Who knows . But overall the food is good .
I have been coming to this restaurant for the past 12 years! It has been one of my favorite, go-to restaurants because of their delicious foods and sweet owner! However, today I had a horrible experience! It was one of the most racist and most hostile environments I have ever faced in a restaurant! The young male behind the cash register, taking orders was not welcoming in any way and extremely rude to colored customers. We witnessed him be pleasant with all the guests that were Asian/Caucasian. I brought my family here in hopes of having an amazing meal as I have been for the past 12 years to support this small business. It was horrible to have my young children be faced with this kind of racist behavior, especially in 2024!
Dirty plates, napkins, utensils. Uses bad cooking oils that make you want to throw up. Waiters have preferential treatment towards Western customers, throws the menu and dinner plates at you with no respect. I got the rice with greens and fish, and the fish was still raw. Unbelievably non-authentic and poor Cantonese food marring Chinatown. Crap.
