This is one of the best places to eat in Lubbock! The food is always fantastic and the people who work there are always so nice! They have a lunch buffet, which is a great way to try a bunch of dishes at once. If you go for dinner I suggest one of their speciality naans. Delicious!
Ate here for the first time yesterday which happened to be (happy) Diwali! The food was so authentic and tasty. Definitely our favorite we’ve had in Lubbock and will easily go back again. The owners are also so polite and actually talk to you instead of just take your money.
I recently visited this restaurant with friends and we were blown away. The food was delicious with significantly sized portions to share. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the prices were reasonable. I definitely will be visiting again (maybe today, lol.)
Update September 13, 2023. They renovated and got a new owner. But they still didn't miss a beat with their food! This place is much nicer inside and still has very nice people waiting on you. If you like Middle Eastern food, this is a great stop for you! This place has a great cook in the back! They are really making some outstanding food back there. I would highly recommend going!
best indian food in town! good price for all you can eat buffet! definitely coming here every time i am craving indian food!
Went 12/12/18 with my wife for lunch and had a great experience. The atmosphere was great and the staff extremely friendly. Coming from Houston and having some of the best Indian cuisine that city has to offer, this place holds its own. Of all the places we've been to, my wife enjoys the butter chicken here the most. The vegetarian dishes are to die for and you can taste the authenticity. This is our favorite Indian spot in town and we will return!
This place rules! My family and I went to Kaveri on a whim last night and I was so impressed. The chicken 65 appetizer is an absolute must! I had butter chicken, which was some of the very best I’ve ever had. We also tried the chicken tandoori, chicken tikka masala, and chili chicken. Everything tasted incredible, the space is small but pretty relaxed, and the waitress was very pleasant. I’ll have to try the lunch buffet sometime soon!
This is one of my favorite places to take people to lunch, the what I believe is a family that owns it are incredibly friendly, the food is quite good, especially for Lubbock where people can be trepidatious of ethnic food
Updating my review to mention their catering — SO GOOD! We ordered for an event and received a ton of incredible food for a great price. Highly recommend ordering from Royal Indian if you have an event coming up. Best Indian food in Lubbock, for sure. They changed management after COVID, but the food is as good as ever
The food was really good. We enjoyed it and friendly people. This is the best indian food spot in lubbock
Taste buds are still singing. Great food, awesome staff and clean. The selection on the buffet is different each time I've been. You can order from a extensive menu as well. You can tell this is fresh made from scratch cooking. I never thought I would be into Indian food, man, I was wrong. Love it.
I have no idea what I'm eating but it's delicious! Some of the best garlic naan I've ever had. I could probably just sit and eat that by itself. Edit: Three years later, the restaurant has changed management and is different than before. The food has changed and I like some of the changes but not others. Overall, I preferred the cooking of the previous owners. It's still decent though and I will continue coming.
My friends and I went here on a whim, and it was the best decision we could have made! Kaveri Indian Cuisine was like a home cooked meal from my mother filled with love. I absolutely loved my meal and could not have asked for better! All the staff was so kind and attentive, you feel so welcome and at home. Wonderfully decorated. I can not recommend enough! You must try the lamb Tikka masala with Garlic naan
Deliciously authentic Indian cuisine! From fragrant curries to sizzling tandoori dishes, every bite is bursting with flavor. Warm hospitality and inviting ambiance make it a top pick for any occasion.
Great hygienic food with good taste. Rate to have an Indian restaurant that has both vegetarian and non vegan (meat) cooked well. I believe it is owner operated so the server was very courteous and helpful. Was transiting through town and was not expecting good warm meal that tasted good. Enjoyed it very much.
I stopped by Royal Indian Cuisine with some colleagues today for lunch, and was very pleased with my experience. The food was all very fresh and delicious, and the staff were all very kind and welcoming. The naan was fresh off of the grill and deliciously soft. The Royal chicken curry was fantastic as well. I also liked that it was very easy to get in and out within an hour, making it a great lunch spot. I would recommend this restaurant to others.
Best Indian food in Lubbock. My Indian friends do not seem too impressed... But this is Lubbock. Any diversity in food is awesome. I think it is good food and good service. I could eat this food ever day. My only suggestion to any Indian restaurant in America is to describe their dishes in familiar food terms for the locals. The average person is fearful of new food. If the food was described in familiar terms, people may feel much more comfortable ordering that food.
I went here and had the samosas (vegetarian) and butter chicken (extra spicy). I really liked the spice level as it was one of the first things I have had in Lubbock with a nice burn to it. The food was very good and the staff was knowledgeable regarding not only the food they serve and customer preferences, but also different types of Indian cuisine served the region and across the state.
I have recently moved to Lubbock from India. And this place is a bliss for a foodie like me. Since the time I got here I was craving for authentic Indian food. I have tried each and every Indian restaurants here but this restaurant really stood out. From the starters (Gobi Manchurian, Chicken 65 and all the Chicken Kebab) to the main course, everything was fresh and delicious and the service was great too. Love it 😊👍
I recently visited an Indian restaurant and had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The menu had a great selection of dishes, and the prices were very reasonable. I especially enjoyed the naan bread and the tandoori chicken. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious Indian meal.
Best food here !!! Tikka shack has nothing on them!! Made by what seems to be a warming family.. whoever the women are in the back someone needs to let them know how amazing the food is never had something sooo good such a hidden oasis we will never go back to tikka shack !!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great food, a fantastic buffet and thank you to the kind girl who checks me out at the podium ❤️🖤❤️Go Red raiders
I've travelled and previously lived in an area with a large Indian & Lebanese population & food -- this is as good and flavorful. Highly recommend this eatery!!!
Excellent south Indian dosa and idli. Didn't try the North Indian. Decor and atmosphere is simple and reasonably clean. Service is friendly and enthusiastic - appears to be husband and wife team.
Items are always fresh and so many choices. All are delicious. One of my favorite spots in Lubbock!
This place has really good food options, and I love that many dishes have an authentic Indian taste. Some items, like the samosas and a few others, may not taste fully authentic, but overall the food is really good.
I’ve been visiting this restaurant since 2021, and I must say the taste and quality have improved significantly under the new management and the name change to Kaveri. The flavors are authentic yet slightly adapted so that people from all communities can enjoy them. I went to the lunch buffet yesterday and was impressed by the freshness and high quality of the food. Having dined at Indian restaurants across Texas and in 42 other states, I can confidently say this is the #1 Indian restaurant in West Texas. Highly recommend!
Lubbock's best Indian restaurant since Maharaja was open! Lunch is an all-you-can-eat buffet (with lots of vegetarian options - the cabbage fry is delicious) and for dinner the full menu is available. My favorite dish is the gobi manchurian appetizer - an Indo-Chinese fried cauliflower dish. Service is very fast, the restaurant is clean and serving sizes are generous. They also offer take-out.
Great food the people are very generous. Highly recommend the goat biriani.
Ordered take out. Food was so dang good
My favorite spot for Indian cuisine in Lubbock, I got the Lamb Vindaloo and it was delicious, earthy, spicy, and creamy all at the same time. Overall a very deep flavor that felt very complex and layered but still comfortable and homely.
I had a wonderful experience at Kaveri Indian Restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious, full of authentic flavors, and freshly prepared. The service was warm and welcoming. Definitely one of the best Indian food spots I’ve visited — highly recommend!
The most authentic Indian Cuisine I have had in a very long time. Definitely worth it!! The Mango fruit cup was an amazing end to the meal.
Amazing amazing food! Service, everything. They were completely phenomenal ❤️
Always have and always will love their buffet. The butter chicken and naan was delicious as usual. I loved the potato masala, chicken biryani, and tandoori chicken as well. The idly was fluffy and light. My mom and brother loved everything they ate as well especially the goat curry, which was flavorful, fall off the bone tender, and the preparation removed any potential gaminess of the meat. My brother enjoyed their mango lassi. Just know, the water is charged by the bottle. Another wonderful meal at Kaveri. I know my boyfriend is jealous that we went to the lunch buffet from 11am-2pm. One of his favorites is the spinach pakora.
We've been eating here for years and in my opinion the food quality has always been great. I will say that the new management/owner has made the quality even better than before. They're always extremely nice when ordering and checking out. My favorite Indian cuisine in Lubbock. I have still not tried the buffet 🙃. I bet it's amazing. This restaurant always sets the bar pretty high. This is always our go-to place on the weekends!
Best Manchurian I’ve ever had! The food looked amazing when they brought it out, and it tasted even better than it looked! Garlic naan was delicious and grilled to perfection. Highly recommend this authentic Indian food restaurant. Everything I tried here was absolutely wonderful and bursting with flavor. I was in town for a day and was hungry for Indian food. Found them on Google. I definitely was not disappointed!
Just stopped by here for my first time for lunch today and the food was so so good!! Desert was even better and the service was very accommodating! Thank you guys for the experience. Will come back for sure.
Oh my goodness!!! Ya'll have to try this place!! It is the bomb!!! The food is absolutely delicious! I am from Houston and we have great restaurants of all kinds of foods. This restaurant is by far one of the best we have eaten from. The breaded and spicey cauliflower is great! The spicey butter chicken is the bomb! The spicey goat is melt in your mouth!!! I can't say enough! I DO HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS FOOD!!!
Tons of honest and real vegetarian dishes (no squash trying to be turky, just pure spice and yummy), the meat was perfectly spiced. A tad more cinnamon than i was used to in the curry mix (quite tasty, dip in som naan and you will definitely go back in for seconds). We got the Goat curry (first pic) and the Okra masala (second pic)
By far one of Lubbock's best (and most underrated) restaurants. The food is always expectational and the owners/staff are so kind. Beer and wine are good pours too!!
This place is clean, nice good, and beautiful family that works over there. I do love their chicken bryani. I would recommend to try. Thank you,
We love Indian food and have it regularly wherever we are. This place is amazing! Definitely one of the best! We had the spinach paneer, palak paneer and chicken curry. Everything tasted amazing! The service is very friendly and great timing. Not too fast so we didn't feel rushed and not too slow so we had to wait. Also priced reasonable. Definitely will be back when we're in town again.
Genuinely one of the best places in Lubbock to get authentic Indian food at. Everything I have ordered from here tastes amazing and comes out perfectly. The portions are quite large too and well worth it for the price. The atmosphere could be a tad more cozy, but I also believe that this is just one of those comfort spots you go to for the food and not necessarily the atmosphere and you can always order takeout if you do not want to dine-in. Staff is always nice as well and helps pack your food to-go if you have any left overs.
First time having Indian food and it was phenomenal! Owner was very kind and even let us try different things! We will definitely be back!
Went for lunch, didn’t get the buffet but I did get food to-go. Employees were kind and helpful. It was all delicious and very flavorful. I will be back for the lunch buffet. I recommend the garlic naan and samosas.
The food is delicious, it is a chill establishment, I personally liked the Bollywood movies playing in the background and the fact that people kept coming in and leaving, will come back for more! Thank you for keeping Lubbock interesting 🤍
Ordered Samosa’s, garlic naan, chicken curry, butter chicken, chicken tikki masala and a mango lassi. The food was very delicious and comforting! The warmth and subtle flavor makes it just right. I would 100% recommend. I definitely plan to come by again for the buffet so i can try more meals! It is always nice to experience other cultures food.
My friends and I went in for a meal but gravitated towards the buffet. We essentially got to try almost everything on the menu. The butter chicken was everyone’s stand out favorite, although everything was great. The hospitality was great and we ended up very happy with our experiences. If you’re looking to spice things up and try some authentic Indian cuisine, then I would highly recommend giving Kavari a try.
My husband and I had been wanting to try this place for a while now, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s the BEST Indian food we’ve had. Also the service and hospitality was amazing. We are definitely coming back!
Recently rediscovered this Indian restaurant again and we love it! The goat biriyani is our favorite. The curries, samosas and masala dosa are also delicious. The paisum (rice pudding) is just like my mom makes back home. The owner is extremely generous, he’ll often let us try little samples of foods and gets us hooked. 10 out of 10 recommend.
I visit this place regularly, and every visit feels special. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared — whether it’s lunch or dinner, they maintain the same high quality every time. The staff are incredibly friendly, attentive, and make you feel like family. Their hospitality and service are outstanding, and the atmosphere is pleasant and welcoming. It’s one of my favorite places to eat, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves authentic and tasty food!
🌟 **5-Star Review** 🌟 Had an amazing experience at **Kaveri Restaurant**! The ambiance was warm and welcoming, and the food was absolutely delicious — every dish was packed with flavor and made with care. A special thanks to the owner, Sailu, for maintaining such high standards and creating a place that truly feels like home. Also, hats off to for their outstanding service — friendly, attentive, and always with a smile! The entire team was professional and made sure we were well taken care of from start to finish. Highly recommend Kaveri Restaurant if you're looking for great food, excellent service, and a memorable dining experience.
We arrived about 15 minutes before the restaurant was about to close, but fortunately, the staff still welcomed us to dine in. I ordered the chicken curry that was tasty, and the level of spiciness was just right for me (not too spicy). I also ordered a mango shake, but it wasn't cold and a bit too sweet for me.
Amazing Indian food in Lubbock! We went for the buffet so we could try multiple dishes and we were so glad we did. It was worth it. They had many varieties, so if you are new to Indian food this would be a great way to try it. The service was fantastic, they were very nice. Highly recommend!
I went at 5pm for the dinner timeframe, was able to sit wherever I wanted and given a menu. I ordered the Butter Chicken w/ rice, Naan, and a appetizer of Samosa. I also was able to order Lamb Biryani to go, that was ready right as I was about done with my meal. The food was great, really flavorful, great texture, and perfect serving amount. I'll definitely be back, and look forward to trying more. My price was reasonable, and the staff and owner were nice and accommodating.
It was okay. Not my favorite Indian food but not bad. The dishes seemed not to have very much flavor and the options on the buffet were Luke warm at the hottest
We really like the food here. Seems authentic and the prices are decent. As most Indian places they have a great variety of vegetarian food. However the service is slightly lacking. And the food is rather inconsistent. The spruce level especially. I always order mild. Sometimes it's making my eyes water. Sometimes it's barely spicey. Otherwise we do like to come here.
We were there at lunchtime for the buffet. The food was fair. An older establishment but neat and clean. Nice service and fair price.
Stopped into Royal Indian Buffet in Lubbock, Texas. We arrived pretty early and they let us come in and sit and once buffet was ready they let us go first in line. Not a large buffet but definitely hits all the Indian staple food. The butter chicken was really good and savory! We had to get our own drinks but they did provide us a cup of ice for our canned sodas. They have fruit and desserts and the food was flavorful. Location is small but definitely worth it. I wish they had garlic Naan though! Prices were good.
The way they welcome the guests is warmth , and the atmosphere is good and cozy. We went for the buffet the food was great , they had a variety of options which was amazing. And the dishes carried flavors making my taste buds dance of happiness. Really appreciate the team
There are not many options in lubbock for indian food. Of the available one, this is better. I always tried buffets here, as I can choose from multiple options. The thing I like the most is the idly and the chutney. Even the goat curry is great as well. Sometimes, they include chicken biryani as well in the menu, and its completely worth it. But the chicken tandoori is always completely dried out. I already visited this place like 5 times in 3 months, and I'll continue dining here.
Their food tastes good. Especially their vegetable pakora, mutton biryani and tea. You can get the subcontinent food taste at this restaurant. This place is small and they decorate too many tables there which makes this place noisy during weekend. Their salespeople are well-mannered and cooperative in terms of receiving orders and providing food.
It's Pretty Decent place in LUBBOCK for an Indian buffet! Taste was good, not to Americanized much. Briyani was okayish, not the best if you are looking for authentic taste ! service is pretty good !
The buffet was medium sized and the food itself was pretty good. That's about where it ends. Unfortunately when we arrived for an earlier lunch, most tables were dirty, a lot of "clean" silverware were sticky and dirty, plates weren't very clean and some even had noticeable food still on it. The staff, although super nice, was also not very attentive. It used to be really good before the pandemic. I don't know if it changed ownership, but the whole place seemed very disorganized making me not want to return. They can do better and Lubbock deserves it. Hopefully they improve!
We tried here for few times and liked it until once we had most of the food taste like it was not really freshly made. On having conversation with the owner, he said they all are tired since they were busy till late night in an party order! which really made us to think a lot about the dishes they had for buffet. But even after that we visited twice with our guests and they also felt the food was not really freshly made. We didn’t have good experience so far and initially we were happy that we got a good Indian restaurant here but our happiness didn’t last for long! Disappointed:(
Overall food was okay. Affordable and the menu had many options. Unfortunately, I noticed a 1 cm hair (possibly from nostril) attached to the egg in my Biryani. Although you commonly see that in average Indian restaurants, I did not expect it here. Otherwise no complaints and the staff was courteous.
Kaveri: The food can be excellent, The Indian lady who runs it really knows how to cook. The food on the buffet is not very warm. They only have mango lassi & I'm not a mango lassi fan. And the food was usually too spicy hot for me. The man who comes around to pick up used plates has a bad vibe. He seems angry and resentful. I never eat there any more.
Food was good, price nominal but they really need to hire some staff! This is pretty much a one-man show. We had to wait for 45 minutes to be seated because that poor harassed woman was catering to the people already there! She was the cleaner, too. She didn't have time to clean the 4-5 tables that had dirty plates. Finally when we were seated, she served our dishes, forgot to bring utensils. And none of us got even a cup of water. When one person in our party of 5 asked for water, she brought it only for him and didn't ask any of us if we wanted water.
Food was a little above average but I've certainly had better for a similar price. Service was amazingly bad, never checked in with us after dropping our food. If he had checked in he would have gotten another beer and water sale, oh well their loss. Atmosphere was basic with visible stock sitting on the floor, probably should be two stars but at least the seats weren't torn. Also, what's the deal with only having bottled water? I should be able to get a glass of water with ice unless I'm carrying out, give me a break.
I was visiting from out of town and wanted to get a quick lunch delivered to me at my hotel. I was pleasantly surprised to find an indian restaurant in Lubbock! There are not many vegan options in the city so was happy I found this place! I put in the order online and got it delivered I believe through Door Dash. Food arrived hot and fresh and was delicious! I got the samosas, garlic naan and curry dal soup with rice. I would like to see some tofu/tempeh/seitan options and maybe some vegan butter and cheese in the future!
I know they have new owners so I will give t another shot in a few months . but it is not the same as it was . I would miss the tv if we dined in since with new owners I can only assume it is gone! However the food gave me and my daughter some stomach issues and prior we would eat it maybe 1 or 2 times a month! We love Indian food and can handle spicy food no problem.. Praying they read the reviews I want the old recipes!! Thanks
Lubbock needs a better Indian Restaurant We went to Kaveri Indian Restaurant yesterday for birthday celebration. We ordered eggplant and palak paneer with highest spice level. The food was so bland, we could hardy eat. The food was fresh, but no taste. Even the Italian restaurant that we often go has more spicier food. The restaurant was fairly busy. It is very unfortunate that the quality of Indian restaurant has gone so bad. There was a time we used to tell all our friends and family around the US proudly that Lubbock has the best Indian restaurant.
Getting disappointed with every visit. The quality has been deteriorating over the past 1 year I’ve been a customer. The chicken in chicken 65 as well as chilly had that raw smell. The restaurant not once but twice has made uber delivery person wait almost an hour to hand over the order. Biryani taste is never consistent. Having very few options in Lubbock, this was my go to place for some fancy Indian food but honestly, they need to step up now with the quality, also considering their slightly upscale pricing compared to Indian restaurants in other cities in Texas.
Change of heart. The last couple times we've eaten at Kaveri, we received a tiny amount of chicken in the chicken tikka masala order and the meat was tough and chewy. The rice was overcooked and mushy. We were fans for a while. The word for Kaveri is, "inconsistent". When we go there one time and have an amazing experience and then visit again two weeks later and spend $70.00, we expect the same quality of food the next time. We shouldn't have have to gamble when ordering there, placing bets on if the food will be enjoyable that evening. I work hard for my money. One of the most important things in owning a business is trust I believe. You have to trust the business knowing you will receive the same quality every time. You have failed!
We ordered takeout and had a hard time with the person on the phone not understanding the questions we had about the menu. The food was ready quickly but part of the order was missing. The menu specified that entrees come with a side of rice and naan bread but when we came to pick up our food, they notified us that the included naan bread is a typo. We ended up having to order the naan bread separately and pay an additional fee for it. We ordered tikka masala and butter chicken. The chicken was of decent quality but the sauces were low on flavor and tasted more like canned tomato soup than Indian food we’d had in the past. Overall, we would not recommend this restaurant if you are looking for authentic Indian food with good customer service.
The staff here were friendly and attentive, but unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The chicken curry was cold inside, despite being hot on the outside, which made it seem like it had been pre-cooked but not heated properly. The taste was underwhelming as well. Cleanliness was just average; there was a noticeable smell inside that made the overall experience less pleasant. Wouldn't recommend based on my visit.
Not authentic indian food. Taste is average. Not recommended if you’re looking for authentic indian food. I the buffet and the only dish I liked was idli and chutney. Rest everything is average.
Edit: I have been coming here every month or two to get food since initially posting my review. While the food and prices are still decent, the service I experienced warrants my never coming back to this location. While paying for my food after eating during buffet hours (an iPad was brought to our table), the server began to cough directly into my face with no attempt at covering or redirecting. Before I could react, I felt his breath and particles of spit all over my face. I woke up feeling ill the next morning. If you want to avoid getting sick, then avoid Kaveri, as I have never experienced quite this level of rudeness from any restaurant. Initial review: Wonderful Indian food for a decent price. Service was excellent - didn't wait long, and the server was very kind.
The food quality went down . Ordered tandoori chicken n chicken 65. I have been here before they used to serve the tandoori chicken with rice and different mint sauces. They have stopped providing those. Used way to much food color in the chicken and the chicken tandoori tasted like lemon. They used so much lemon you cant even taste the chicken its pure lemon .
I went in for a doordash and i understand that indian food is different smelling than american but the way this place smelt was absurd and i spent about 20-30 minutes just for a delivery!
I have been a regular customer of Royal Indian Cuisine since the day they started it. I usually buy chicken biryani (medium spicy) once in every few weeks. According to my experience, its quality is getting very bad. Biryani rice I ordered last few times were terrible. You can just see the color of rice I ordered this time. Not spicy at all. Chicken pieces also tasted terrible. Maharaja used to be simply the best. They had a very high standard, but quality of chicken biryani in Royal Indian Cuisine is doubtful. If you know the taste of real Indian food, this is not the best. but I must say that the people work in the restaurant are very nice.
Quaint Indian restaurant in an unlikely place. Let me start by saying that the food itself was not bad. We started with Gobi Manchurian which was good, followed by Chicken tangadi kabab (which ironically was boneless) which was good as well. The entrees, the mutton and chicken biryani, were mediocre at best where the rice and meat were both overcooked and underflavored. Still tolerable. The dessert soured the whole experience The bread halwa (double ka meeta) that I ordered was just toasted white bread mashed in warm milk and some cashews. It was supposed to be fried in ghee!! Now I ordered the dessert after 2:30pm when they close for lunch service. A simple "the kitchen is closed" would have sufficed and this would have been a 3/4 star experience. Instead they made this horrible dish (must've been of good intentions) but the outcome was so disappointing. I also noticed that the charges on the meals were not what the menu indicated. Now, it's possible the prices are updated during covid-19, but we were not notified of these difference upon being seated which took A WHILE coz there is only one employee in the dining area.
I order online Sunday worth of $140 and pick up for friends gathering. Chicken was so hard & all gravy taste same and watery . Not happy at all . I call them and they say-come back on Tuesday and pick up food but that’s not the way you run restaurants. We order another food from other restaurants.. never going again..
I used to come to this place very often, but after today (September 20), I don’t think I’ll be back. The butter chicken was terrible — the chicken tasted old, and the sauce was watered down. When we raised the issue with the manager, he admitted that sometimes they use this type of chicken instead of chicken breast. This restaurant used to be a hidden gem, but now it feels like a gamble: sometimes you get outstanding Indian cuisine, and other times it’s the worst meal you could imagine. Sadly, after years coming to this place, I will never step a foot in again.
