The Roof is a popular breakfast spot known for generous portions and a diverse menu. The Texas Skillet and Crab Cake Benedict are highly praised. Service is generally fast and friendly, though wait times can occur, especially on Sundays.

My table and I had an amazing waitress named Lauren! She was very bright and kind at 8am and although my table stayed for a long time she was still super attentive!! Made the experience even better!!
Delicious and varied breakfast and lunch offerings. The ranch potatoes were excellent. We were seated right away and our waitress was friendly. We did not feel rushed. The place is very clean and bright.
First time here today. The food was absolutely amazing. The service was great. Overall the best breakfast place we’ve been to in Lubbock
Great Food, you knew it was Good when there was a waiting line since I got there until the time I left. Great Mexican plate breakfast.
Went here with my friend for my birthday brunch and it was lovely. My omelet was beautiful and those ranch potatoes are the bomb. They did get my order a little wrong, but they fixed it real quick. The food was delicious. The staff was really nice. I highly recommend checking it out.
Amazing friendly waitress, Gena, recommended the strawberry cheesecake crunch waffle and it was very good! There was a small wait time to be seated, but Gena quickly brought our drinks and food order!! Highly recommended trying this restaurant and we will definitely come back.
Chicken Run is now my breakfast place. Their potatoes are the best I've ever had, the omelets are perfect and the coffee is exceptional. I love how they are not afraid to season their delicious food. Will be back and bring everyone I can with me
The garden frittata was absolutely fantastic! The coffee is fresh too, and the overall atmosphere is very cozy. Whoever does the chalkboard seasonal menu has very lovely handwriting as well!
Today is finally my daughter's graduation and she couldn't choose a better place to say goodbye to Lubbock than her favorite place to celebrate. We decided to come the whole family that came from Dallas to have lunch with her. I thank all the staff and manager for allowing us to bring a mariachi for her. Delicious food, service and the plus was the mariachi Tesoro!!
The booths seats could use a good scrubbing. But other than that the food was great and our waitress was phenomenal.
I ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy, which comes with two eggs. I always get my eggs over easy. They were cooked perfectly and so were the biscuits. The flavor of the gravy was incredible and our server Larissa was very cheerful, friendly and helpful. I also ordered the green machine juice. I ordered it ironically and fully expected it to taste terrible like anything healthy. Boy was I wrong. That drink is delicious and I will definitely be coming back!
Very good food! I hadn't been able to find a good spinach salad in Lubbock (for lunch!). Their strawberry grilled chicken salad is scrumptious! We've also had the Classic Ruben- DELISH! We haven't had their breakfast or brunch menu, but we're looking forward to the day we do!
The food is awesome and we will definitely be back. This is our go to place. I have never had anything that was not good.
Everyone at Chicken Run have made me feel welcome, and that is why I meet with a group of friends every week for breakfast. Ellie is our favorite wait-person, but that is probably because we eat in her section all of the time.
Good breakfast? Check Good service? Check Really enjoyable but the best part.....they actually know how to cook eggs. Seems easy but in my experience it's the hardest thing to get right in a breakfast place. 3 food ordered eggs three different ways...all perfect: over easy, over medium and scrambled. All came out together. Very impressive
Very nice restaurant with very kind staff the food is great and I recommend this for breakfast or lunch
Everyone I talk to thinks this is a Chicken place but I’m here to tell you that it’s an amazing place for an Excellent Breakfast/Brunch Restaurant. They have awesome breakfast options BUT they also offer Lunch options as well. Prices are very reasonable, food taste great and service is excellent!!! Only downside is they CLOSE at 2pm and on weekends they are very busy. Not a very large dining area and tables but really worth the wait and visit if you have never been. They even offer First Responder discount. As I said breakfast options are amazing but the Salads and Sandwiches are just as good!!! Just wish they would open one in Plainview.
Chicken Run was a wonderful experience. The service is amazing. My husband tried the tomato & cheese omelet. He claims it's the best he's ever had. My favorite is the assorted specials we get to try. Larissa really has this place in tip top shape! We definitely will make it one of our regular stops.
Best WAFFLE and SERVICE I've had in my life. I watched the wait staff take very good and attentive care to a black lady in front of me who had an issue with her order.. Important to me as a black guy.... I'll tip heavy each time I dine here... Speaking of dining .. Incredible.... Best waffle I've had in my life.... Strawberry banana with whipped cream.... It's absolutely incredible and words cannot accurately describe how wild it tastes. I'm actually on the way back up there to do just that.
The menu is just as you’ve read - lots of choices. Something for everyone. We had a fun time choosing. We were delighted with what we ordered and couldn’t finish everything - it was so plentiful. Everything was prepared here lovingly by a busy staff in the kitchen. Everyone who took care of us while we were here was polite and excellent - it felt like a great experience of Texas hospitality. I wanted to meet the owner to let her know how pleased we were but she was out at the time and so the manager popped by our table to say hello. Yes we loved it.
Great service, really high quality food, simple fresh breakfast menu, with gf and vegan options. In house hot sausage, fresh from scratch meals. They cook with bacon grease and real butter. My waitress was, Hailey, super attentive, on top of the allergy game with my GF request. All around couldn't ask for more from a breakfast spot
The pumpkin waffles were so delicious! We love this place!
Lovely breakfast place! It's a bit pricey but I think well deserved. Loved the whipped cream and nuts sprinkled on top of my strawberry banana waffle. The waffle was nice and crispy on the outside, and became soft with the parts covered in whipped cream. You get to pick your choice of meat and how you'd like your eggs cooked. The service was excellent! Really enjoyed the atmosphere and they had holiday specials written on their chalkboard
My wife and I would rather eat here than any other breakfast/brunch joint in Lubbock. The staff is friendly and attentive. That standard is clearly set by the ownership (one of which stopped at our table to chat for a couple of minutes). The food is consistently good. The best papas I've had at a restaurant. We very much enjoy going here!
I ordered a Denver omelet, the eggs were fluffy and it was loaded with ingredients, side of potatoes. Best omelet I've had in awhile, potatoes were great but pretty salty, the salsa was too sweet. Overall very pleased, large quantity of food, will return 😋
Breakfast wonders await the adventurous foodie. This is our usual dig whenever in Lubbock. Regularly rotating menus, great creative flair, many healthy options, and supportive of local organic farmers. Love the ethos. Today, it was time to try the corned beef hash and eggs with ranch potatoes and hollandaise sauce. Wonderful. Unlike the usual canned corned beef we are used to in Hawaii this dish is made with chunky corned beef pieces without the cannon additives. The hot tea comes with a large jug of hot water rather than the tiny cups needing refill every 10 minutes. Attention to detail and willingness to accommodate gluten free preferences/sensitivities makes for a popular place to chill, enjoy the free WiFi and live the great life. If in the area, this is a highly recommended breakfast nook to check out.
Kyler did a wonderful job taking care of us and the food was delicious!!!!!! Couldn’t believe the size of the pancakes & the Red Raider Deluxe and Hiker’s Benedict with potatoes ….Fabulous!!!!!!!
Always wanted to try this place while it was Egg&I but never had the chance, I live in the area now and stopped by because I'm a big breakfast lover! My server was Desiree, all other staff was very sweet & my breakfast burrito came out fast. It's pretty affordable as far as brunch, really tasty and would definitely come again! Perfect for small families, couples and even first dates!
Our waitress Cadence was very fast and friendly. The food was amazing! will definitely be coming back!
This is a great place for breakfast, food was really good, service was great too. There are a lot of healthy breakfast options too, everything we tried was really good. Service was prompt, even though the restaurant was busy we got our food really quickly and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
My husband and I tried this place despite the bad reviews. It was pretty busy, but we only had about a 10-12 minute wait. We found that the food was actually really good. I had the Crab Benedict and it was delicious. Not too salty and the English muffins were perfectly toasted. My husband had the Texas Skillet and compared the beef to Philly steak. He loved it. The coffee came in a carafe, but it was a little bitter and over brewed. I had a diet Dr Pepper and the carbonation was a little low. So if you like it sweet and not too carbonated, it was good. It looks small from the outside, but it has plenty of room.
This past week, I had seen a post on FB about Chicken Run. I can't even remember what exactly it was. When we got out of church this morning, I drove straight there. They were busy. Always a good sign. We were greeted by a host and seated immediately. We were given menus when were seated. In a short time our waitress, Kyler was there with water and a greeting. We had already decided what we were going to order so she went ahead and took our order. I had the classic with scrambled eggs, ham and a waffle. My wife had one of the scrambles. We both thoroughly enjoyed the food. My wife's scramble was steaming hot when it arrived and my eggs and ham and waffle were too. I mention that as we tried a new place getting a bunch of hype and they brought out two plates of cold food. The waffle I had actually melted butter. This is how you are supposed to do breakfast. The food was great, Kyler was great and the atmosphere was wonderful too. We will be back.
Larissa comes up with the most amazing ideas for specials. EVERYTHING is good and we go regularly. Go by and try one of the specials and you will be hooked, I promise!
The food was delicious. The flavors blended well, and my “side of greens” was what I’d call a salad, minus any additional vegetables, and super evenly coated in a vinaigrette. The greens at breakfast time was nearly my favorite part of the flavor palette, but the actual eggs Benedict was so predictably tasty that I devoured every last bit. My husband’s Texas steak skillet somehow bumped the flavor ratings even higher than the scale I knew to exist; sometimes I don’t like cheese because it steals the show, but in his skillet meal, the cheese highlighted the deep, rich steak flavors, and the green peppers, fresh enough to still have some crunch between my teeth, zested the meat just so. The restaurant was a good temperature. The hostess did an excellent job of getting us seated tactfully at a table. Good spacing in the facility. The server who took our order clearly values her job and has worked there awhile, but I didn’t order coffee, maybe some other time I will. It’s a great restaurant!
Amazing food! The service was fantastic! I'm going back there again and taking my family! I had the Texas skillet and couldn't eat it all! Someone else at my table ordered a pancake and it turned out to be the size of a small country! I should probably gate keep this place so its not so busy... but I'll probably just encourage them to open more of these restaurants in town instead! 10 out of 10... highly recommend!!!!
This is an anomaly; an upscale breakfast restaurant with great service and delicious food. I ordered the eggceptional omelet and was fully satisfied. The portion was generous and the attention to detail was appreciated. The eggs were prepared separately and then the toppings were folded inside- the way an omelet should be made. A great sit down restaurant with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Strongly recommended.
If you’re looking for a homey atmosphere and feel good cooking, chicken run was it. Large menu with many options, including many options for anyone dieting, GF. Fresh squeezed juice options. Staff were really friendly. Visited on a week day morning, didn’t wait, but I imagine this is somewhere that can be very busy on the weekend. The potatoes were TOP TEIR🤌🤌🤌
Absolutely love this place!!! Been here 3 times never disappoints me! 1. Sides I think each order comes with 2 sides and the portions were very generous. Ranch potato was perfect. Dressed green had decent portions. Super satisfying! 2. Main dishes - Tuscan scrambled egg was super good. - Texas pride waffle was super good but the portion was small and was comparatively expensive. - Mediterranean frittata looked small and ordinary but was actually pretty good! - Benedict was very tasty!! ☕️ The premium coffee was acidic which I did not enjoy. 💰 The price was reasonable👍🏻 Service was always very good! Overall, chicken run is an awesome place to enjoy your morning and started your day!! 👍🏻 RECOMMEND!
To start this place seems like it won't hit the marks you're looking for. You're wrong! The menu has so many different options, and the portions are generous! We have been coming since before when it was the egg and I. They kept a lot of the same concept, just a name change really. I have been coming back for the bacon avacado scrambler, and I tell you what, you put that stuff on some sourdough and bam. You got something special! The pancake is huge I will say it was a little crumbly but it's all wheat so atleast it's somewhat healthy. The kids enjoyed everything and one ate so fast I couldn't snag a pic! We will be back even if it's a wait to sit! We'll worth the time and money! Pics are 2 egg breakfast, kids pancake and bacon avocado scrambler with added sourdough toast.
We enjoyed breakfast here around 9:00 on 10/7. There was about a 10 minute wait for our party of two. Once we were seated, we were warmly welcomed by our server who took great care of us. I ordered a coffee and the Texas Skillet, and my wife got the Crab Cake Benedict. The coffee was nice and hot, but it was not as good as some of the coffees I’ve had around town. But I won’t let that affect my rating because the skillet was absolutely delicious. The steak was juicy and flavorful, the roasted mushrooms had a great umami flavor, the peppers and onions were cooked perfectly, and my eggs were a perfect over medium as ordered. Even the English muffins on the side were fantastic, and not just a place holder. My wife really enjoyed her Crab Cake Benedict as well, and the dressing on her greens was addictive. She ate them all! Which is not usual for her. Overall, we had a good time with great food.
Really enjoyed our meal!! Our server Ryan was just super nice and friendly! The menu had a lot of appealing options. Our food was very very good, I had the crab cake Benedict and he had the Texas skillet and we each inhaled it. I opted to keep the greens that came on the side and glad I did, the dressing was light but herby along side the very rich Benedict. The tomato on it was a pleasing cut. Also ordered the green juice with the kale, apple, lime and cucumber - it was sweet and earthy and not overbearing kale tart. I also love that an order of coffee came in a carafe for the 3 dollar price - that's well worth the money! Well definitely come back!
This is my new favorite breakfast place in Lubbock and that's saying something I am very picky about breakfast and will very rarely spend money on going somewhere to eat for breakfast but if I could I would literally eat here everyday. We got the Cambridge skillet, biscuit & gravy omelette and strawberry cheesecake waffle(the last two were only on special for August) and everything exceed my expectations. Our server Genevieve was so sweet, happy and helpful, the whole staff was 💜
I’ve been to this location many of times I really enjoy their food the freshness of it and how unique their food is, but this time around the service was horrible. I asked for a coffee took forever to get a refill on it. I just felt like they weren’t trying to help me out, but other than that just happened to me I’ve always had great experience here and I would highly recommend still
Everything we've had there was perfect until today! I had sausage gravy and biscuits which comes with 2 eggs and potatoes. Biscuits were slightly underbaked which didn't bother me that much, but the gravy was the worst I've ever had! Looked and tasted like water gravy instead of milk gravy. Will definitely go back, but won't be eating anything with gravy on it. They definitely need to change this. I've made and eaten a lot of gravy in my 84 years, but never had any this bad.
Great family breakfast spot! Lots of space, friendly fast service from all staff, food was hot and fresh, didn't get to try specialty juices but looked great, honey butter on the waffles are a must have
We visited on a Sunday morning about 1030. It was not too busy and we were seated quickly. The Egg and I is only open for breakfast and lunch, but has a varied menu that includes gluten free options. I tried the Pineapple Tonic that is a combination of pineapple, orange juices with ginger...it was quite tasty! I ordered the traditional Eggs Benedict and it was made to perfection, the Hollandaise sauce was creamy and smooth and the eggs were just runny enough. Waitress was quick, friendly and attentive. This is a place to return to!!
Quaint, clean and friendly perfect for brunch is best how to describe this eatery as advertised by the name. Had the Hikers Platter and was very pleased. Pouched eggs and bacon with grilled diced ham, asparagus and mushrooms on top of English Muffins drizzled with Hollandaise sauce nestled with a green salad. Excellent Power Plate for active day or work.
My food was fresh and delicious and served with a smile. They have a dog friendly outdoor patio that is enclosed. Friendly staff and affordable prices.
After reading some reviews, I almost turned away from here. I'm glad I didn't. I had the egg burrito and I was not disappointed. Flavorful, filling, and simply delicious. I loved how the potatoes were crispy and that a full coffee pitcher is left at the table. Staff was friendly, service was awesome-(FAST!)! Prices aren't extravagant. I would definitely stop again. Recommended!
Stopped by for brunch while visiting family in Lubbock. Our breakfast was great, I had the Hiker's Benedict which was very unique and yummy. It felt a little pricey, but the portions were large so this made up for it.
We visited here 4/23 around 10AM. The restaurant was clean and there was a lot of people there. There wasn’t a wait though which was great! The server immediately brought our table water and a high chair. Unfortunately, the high chair didn’t buckle so my kid could easily stand up and get out. We ordered coffee and that was hot and not bitter, which was nice since I drink it black. I ordered the biscuits and gravy which were delicious! It came with eggs and I ordered mine over medium but the consistency wasn’t great and they were bland. The potatoes that came with it were ok. I tried my friend’s pancake and that tasted kind of bitter to me. Overall the food was okay but the service was great. If someone invited me to go with them here I’d order just a side of biscuits and gravy and be happy but I probably wouldn’t choose to go here by myself. But if you like biscuits and gravy, this is the place!!
Charges a "3% credit card charge" without even asking your payment method... and it came out to $1 per item which was more like 15% of my bill... bring cash or you get milked... Lunch special turns out to not be a good price compared to the normal menu equivalent due to portion sizes being half or less than half for almost the same cost. Usually lunch specials are cheaper and smaller portions. Tasted good though. 😀
Unfortunately, we waited 45 minutes after being told by the hostess 20-25 minutes. After we ordered our food, it to at least 50 minutes before our food arrived.
Food tastes great but I ordered items off of the healthier side and they’re just DRENCHED in cheese. For trying to eat healthier you would think the cheese would be light. I also got English muffins soaked in better it seems like.
The food and service were both absolutely amazing. I’d love to come back but unfortunately the music they had playing was absolutely terrible. It was some sort of weird Josh groban mixed with opera from the soundtrack of chronicles of narnia being performed by the Mormon tabernacle choir. I hated it. The music was so uncomfortable that I wanted to leave the entire time. Again, great food, great service, horrible nightmarish background music.
The odds were against them during our visit, we visited at the end of the rush on a Sunday. I could tell the server was frazzled and everyone was trying their best. The food was mediocre, orders were correct, but boy was everything a mess! We were sat at a table that the hostess wiped down moments before, but they left it sopping wet. The menus we were handed were sticky. The server spilled a bunch of water all over the table but didn't notice, leaving a huge puddle that I had to wipe up with a couple napkins. When we were handed our coffee mugs I questioned whether or not they were truly clean mugs because of the splashes of coffee running down the sides and handle- were those new or old? The server had walked to the table with the mugs half full of coffee and then topped them off.. seemed like a messy way to do it. The food was fine, though it seemed like some of the side potatoes were old mixed in with a new batch- some so burned to a crisp you couldn't even bite into them. The bottom bun of the chicken sandwich was soggy. When walking out the door our shoes were sticking to the floor! I have a feeling we caught them at their worst, the other reviews seem great and the staff was nice. I recommend catching them earlier on a weekend day. Probably won't be going here again myself.
Some good and bad here, definitely some things to work on. The good: Our waiter was nice, service was pretty speedy, and the food was completely acceptable. It wasn't *insane* or the best meal ever, but it was acceptable. The bad: The floor was sticky when walking in. We were seated at a table that was sopping wet. Then brought coffee cups that were also sticky. The entire restaurant was sticky, basically. It felt like hygiene and food safety were very far down their list of priorities. Pretty pricy for what you get. The potatoes that came with my sandwich were completely overcooked, and thus pretty dry. Unfortunate.
Went here this morning for breakfast and I must say I am not impressed. We were seated right away and the table next to us was waiting on the waitress for some time prior to us coming in with to go boxes. Water was served warm and smelled that chemicals from the dishwasher & was tap water. Waitress was not attentive to our drinks needing refilled or even straws. First order was biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, and ranch potatoes. Biscuits were not all the way baked, eggs were tasteless and powdery. Ranch potatoes were great with flavor, but some potatoes were not cooked all the way. Second order was French toast, eggs and a side of bacon. Bacon had leftover burnt residue from previously cooked items on the grill. Eggs were still very powdery with no flavor, French toast was decent flavoring but minimal and cinnamon. As we were leaving the cashiers were not pleasant. Even with understanding, young college kids when asked if we enjoyed our food, I personally gave back feedback and said “it lacked flavor but it wasn’t horrible”. Young dark haired girl, proceeded to just remain silent and roll her eyes, and asked if we would want to tip which ultimately led to a no. I think when people ask for feedback, he would be open to respectful criticism on ways to improve. Save your money and find something different for breakfast because this place wasn’t worth $30.
My omelet was served at room temperature, my toasted english muffin was also cold. The restaurant was not busy. There was only four tables other than my own.
We got thair @ 10;15 after church it was so crowded in side and outside. They said 15 min wait. That all it took very nice employee. Don't order the make it your way thay forgot the cheese in mine and put a hole can of mushrooms on it that were still cold. We also had Texas Pride waffle Thsy were really good then there was Biscuits and gravy was good needed toast the last thinh Mexan Omelet Good
Came on a Sunday. Possibly worst time to. The hostess seemed like she didn't wanna be there along with the others. We were told it would be a 20 -25minute wait. They had about 5 empty tables that people had finished eating at and were cleaned and they were not calling anybody to seat them. We ended up leaving since it had already been the 25 minutes with empty tables and they still haven't called anyone before us. So I could already tell it was gunna be a longer wait time.
Didn't get greeted when we entered and they took forever to even come take our order
We placed an order online and had to wait an HOUR past when it was supposed to be ready. We couldn't cancel the order because Grubhub said the restaurant had already accepted the order, but after waiting 30 minutes an employee said they didn't even have the order in their system. Supposedly they hadn't downloaded tbe app, even though grubhub said the order was accepted and in progress 🤦♀️ So an hour later, I'm eating the Mediterranean Frittata that is watery and tastes like the chicken came out of a can. The dressed greens are literally spring mix with warm blueberry syrup on the side. Not sure who thought that was a good combination. Super disappointing experience.
After waiting over an hour for our food, watching several tables who sat after us get their food and finally getting our avocado toast and a scramble, was left disappointed with my bland bowl of mush. Server said it was done several times and then 30 minutes later, said it was done. 15 minutes later we got our bland food. Sad to say, IHOP is better than this place. What a bummer. Save your money.
Restaurant was half empty but still had to wait 15 minutes to be seated, once seated, I then waited over 10 minutes to even be acknowledged by a server. I notified the manager that staff was on their phones while no one was served. I left without ordering.
