A lovely hotel (Quite ususal for a Parador) with one of the best views over a city that you could wish for! It is easy to access the Castillo de Gibralfaro and walk down to the alcazabar. It has a nice little pool on the top floor for summer visitors! The food is good too :o)
We stayed at the Parador Nacional de Malaga Gibralfaro for a few days as my 70th birthday treat. We booked well in advance and stayed midweek. The hotel is wonderful with exceptional views of Málaga and we had a great time. Málaga is a beautiful city to visit with lots of great attractions and all are withing easy reach of the Parador either by bus or walking down the steep hill. The bus ride is about twenty minutes and goes about every half hour. All of the hotel rooms have balconies on the city side and the views are spectacular either by day or night. The breakfast was up to the usual Parador standards, top quality. The room was good with an excellent bed and a fine bathroom. The service was excellent and we would definitely return.
A Wonderful Stay with Breathtaking Views We had an amazing stay! Parking was easy and convenient. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and peaceful—just what we needed. Having our own balcony with a stunning view over Málaga was a real treat. We enjoyed relaxing in the bar with delicious food and drinks, and took a lovely walk down to the old town and back. The route is ideal for anyone in reasonably good shape. On our departure day, we didn’t have time for breakfast, but the staff thoughtfully provided us with picnic bags filled with fruit, freshly made sandwiches, croissants, water, and juice. Such a generous gesture! We wholeheartedly recommend this place and would love to return.
We really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful location. Staff friendly and helpful. Room was very spacious and clean. Lovely rooftop pool area that could do with a little bit of a refurbishment. Maybe some plants and repairs to pool tiles. Also no drinks service up there. Maybe a cold drink vending machine? We only ate a few times for breakfast which was good but not the best value at 17 euros per head. Would stay again especially if the pool area was improved.
Unforgettable Stay with Breathtaking Views – A True Málaga Highlight Staying at the Parador de Málaga Gibralfaro was an experience we will never forget. Perched high above the city, this stunning hotel offers panoramic views of Málaga, the harbour, and the Mediterranean that are simply jaw-dropping—especially at sunrise and sunset. It feels like you're on top of the world. The location is unbeatable. Nestled beside the historic Gibralfaro Castle, the Parador offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle, while still being just a short walk or quick taxi ride down to the city center and the beach. It’s the perfect balance of tranquillity and convenience. Our room was spacious, elegant, and comfortable, with a private terrace that made it hard to leave. Waking up to the view of the sea and the city below was magical. The entire hotel has a warm, classic charm that reflects the beauty of Andalusia, while still offering all the modern comforts. The service was impeccable—professional, kind, and attentive without being intrusive. Every interaction, from check-in to dinner service, made us feel genuinely welcome. Speaking of dinner, the restaurant deserves its own praise. Dining on the terrace with the city lights twinkling below was a highlight of our trip. The food was refined, beautifully presented, and full of regional flavour. Whether you’re visiting Málaga for the first time or returning to see it from a new perspective, staying at the Parador de Málaga Gibralfaro is something special. It’s more than just a hotel—it’s an experience that captures the heart and soul of the city. Highly recommended for those seeking beauty, peace, and a touch of luxury.
I recently stayed at the Parador de Málaga Gibralfaro, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The location is absolutely breathtaking — perched high above the city with panoramic views of Málaga, the port, and the Mediterranean Sea. Waking up to that view every morning was a highlight of my trip. The hotel itself is charming and full of character, perfectly blending classic style with modern comfort. My room was spacious, clean, and beautifully maintained, with a balcony that made the most of the incredible setting. The staff were warm, professional, and attentive, making me feel genuinely welcome throughout my stay. Dining at the hotel's restaurant was another memorable experience — the food was delicious, and enjoying dinner on the terrace overlooking the city was simply magical. If you're looking for a peaceful, scenic retreat with easy access to the heart of Málaga, I can't recommend Parador de Málaga Gibralfaro enough. I can't wait to return!
We did not stay at the hotel, but if the experence we had at the resturant is any indication we can heartly recommend both. Very service and experience oriented. The Matre'd was exceptional! The food was fantastic, the view if the harbor was fantastic. Everyone we interacted with was lovely. This was a five star experience!
Best hotel views in Malaga? Probably. Just below Gibralfaro castle overlooking Malaga harbour and town. Spectacular views from all bedrooms. Walk down into town 20 minutes. 35 bus back up. Very clean and well kept. Service top class. Good restaurant. Although breakfast at €21 a head is a touch expensive.
We stayed in the Parador in January 2024 in a Superior room 306. The room was nicely appointed but a bit small. It was quite warm but there was no air conditioning as it was "winter". The room had a good bathtub in the bathroom. The highlight was an extraordinary view from the balcony over the port of Malaga. It was truly a breathtaking spectacle from morning to dusk. Parking was a bit tight as the Parador was at the top of the hill. It had extensive dining facilities which looked nice and full of people but we did not use. The location is excellent if you have a car since it is far from the city in terms of walking. Overall a great place for its location while the comforts are somewhat outdated as is the case in many paradors.
We just landed back from our week long family vacation at Paradores Malaga Gibralfaro. It was our first time staying in a Paradores. Firstly I want to highlight all the positive because in the absolute it was a very good vacation for our family. - Location: simply the most beautiful balcony in Malaga. As soon as the taxi dropped us in front of the hotel , we were spellbound by the sea and the city views. Simply gorgeous. We also spent several evening on the hotel front terrace admiring the changing colors of the sunset. Yes the hotel is up the hill but you can order a taxi down to the beach for 7€ and hail one back up for 4€. The hotel is more quiet than the hotels downtown as you are away from the noisy hustle and bustle. The pool was great during the hot days. Open until 9pm which is fantastic ! The surrounding hills and nature are beautiful there are several hiking trails with interesting flora and fauna. Incredible smell of pines in the air. - The hospitality : The service staff is generally very welcoming. We want to specifically thanks Jose for making our breakfasts pleasant and comfortable. Maria for being so attentive and kind to our and our child comfort during dinner at the restaurant. Alberto, between cafe and restaurant was very professional and friendly and has a perfect English. A very special thank you also for the reception staff. The ladies were all very professional and attentive to our requests , they are a true asset to the guest experience. - Spacious rooms: We stayed on the second floor in a double standard with convertible sofa. The bathroom was also big. The things that need attention : - Cuisine: Consistency: the dish presentation was inconsistent over the week. A prawn salad looked beautiful early in the week and average at the end. Concerning: I felt quite unwell twice after eating a the restaurant and cafe. Both times the common denominator was fried food ordered I ate. I realize after that it must have been the oil and I encourage daily inspections of oil change. I am currently pregnant and the second time (Tuesday 22nd July after patatas Fritas at the cafe) I was really unwell and spent time in the bathroom late in the night with painful stomach and digestive pains. I am still worried this could have hurt my baby. I am sorry I didn’t raise this morning at check out but I was more preoccupied for the taxi to get here and be on time. - Slow service: on several nights we had dinner at the hotel the service was really slow. We had to chase our waiter for everything : ordering, get the food, bill. For example one evening we stayed between 8:30pm and 11:00pm if I remember correctly. However for our dinner last night (Thursday 24th July) the service was absolutely flawless. I have seen everyone working hard but I believe some improvement can be made on team coordination. - Not so good room noise insulation : We have been woken up and kept awake by loud noise coming from upstairs and neighboring rooms. It’s not awful but loud enough. If you have a very light sleep better book the top floor at least. I am looking forward to discovering Spain through Paradores and I hope my feedback will be helpful and informative.
Absolutely incredible views! The hotel is on top of a cliff like hill so even our first floor balconies had the most wonderful views. There are lots of pretty (steep!) footpaths you can take down into town and we always got a taxi back up. Housekeeping staff were friendly and efficient and the rooms were spotless and well equipped. All the waitresses in the terrace and at breakfast seemed unhappy and very stressed out. Very pretty little pool on the roof with sun loungers around. Take your own beach towel as there are none provided.
Offers fantastic views thanks to its stunning hilltop. The setting is peaceful and perfect for soaking in the scenery. Most visitors will almost certainly prefer to take a taxi up the hill, as the climb is steep. Don't attempt with luggage! That said, the walk down is very pleasant and gives you a great sense of the surrounding area. A lovely spot for a relaxing stay with views that are well worth it! Would be very happy to return.
It was a major disappointment. Aside from the view, which was only moderately good, there was nothing positive. There is no real advantage in terms of access to Gibralfaro Castle, which should not be misunderstood. The staff were unwelcoming: at check-in they continued chatting among themselves without even greeting us. The room was cold, and constant noise—likely from some kind of machinery—continued until late at night, making it hard to sleep. The worst part was the ground-floor café. Although the two waiters seemed to be doing their best, they were clearly insufficient for the size of the space and number of guests. We waited 15 minutes just to pay. The food was expensive and extremely poor in quality; the fried squid was terrible. It was the worst dining experience of my life. We paid a large amount to stay over the year-end holidays, and it became a very bad memory.
Lunch on the terrace today, food good but service is dreadful. Been to lots of Paradors but this is the worst. Table was dirty, waited a while for it to be cleared after the previous diners and then had to ask for it to be cleaned. Had to go inside to order coffee for the 3 of us as nobody came after we had finished our food. Beautiful location but miserable staff and very poor service.
Disappointing Stay Due to Bed Bug Infestation and Lack of Accountability We stayed at this hotel recently and, unfortunately, discovered bed bugs in our room. We raised our concerns with reception on the second day, but were told it was likely mosquito bites. Even after showing clear photos of the bugs on our final day, staff continued to insist it couldn't be bed bugs. Over the course of three nights, I was left with over 60 bites, which was extremely uncomfortable and distressing. We were advised to email the photos to the manager, which we did on the 20th, but as of now—they haven't responded. Most disappointing of all, we never received an apology at any point during our stay. We expected better standards of hygiene and basic responsibility from a hotel of this standing. I hope the hotel addresses this issue and improves its handling of such serious complaints in the future. We stayed in room 103 from 17th -20th July 25 **Update in response to your last message** I'm not sure how there were no signs of bed bugs. When I left the room there were were dead bugs and blood stains on the bed sheets.
Bed bugs!!! Disappointing attitude from staff and management… We stayed here for 3 nights, after our first night my boyfriend woke up covered in what looked like bed bugs. Although we couldn’t see any, we suspected this based on the bites. Reported to reception and bedding changed (at our request) and not room. On our last morning we woke early to leave for the airport and actually saw several of them in the bed!!!! (room 103), we reported this to reception who said they would inform management. He questioned whether we were wrong as they had never seen such a thing, no apology and made to feel stupid. We eventually heard back from management today (23/7/25) having left early morning (20/7/25). We have been told that nothing has been found, which is interesting as we left them (with blood!) on the sheets. Really disappointed with the hotel (not only the bed bugs and two trips to the pharmacy whilst on holiday, but also their attitude addressing the situation. Not only this but had to isolate and deep clean all of our belongings on return. Wish we never stayed here! Aside from this the hotel is dated, restaurant service is poor and slow and felt that I had been cat fished from the photos online, happy holidays!!!
