This was our favorite place in Marfa for sure. The food was amazing and a great price for the portions. They offer vegetarian/vegan options as well that were out of this world, so there’s something for everyone in your group. The staff were super friendly, and the atmosphere was fun. 10/10 would recommend.

Hands down the best BBQ I have EVER eaten. The staff was friendly, though they did run out of meat shortly after we ordered, so go early!! We will be returning when we visit!

Hands down, the World’s Best BBQ. And Marfa, itself, is a joy to visit. The sense of isolation and peaceful serenity far from the maddening crowd is an all too rare experience these days. (May Marfa always maintain its lovely isolation and remain off the beaten path!!)

Great BBQ . Had ribs and brisket- both worth it. Sides are not the usual slaw and fries, but are well prepared. Don’t miss the blue corn muffin.

Excellent brisket. Best I've had outside of Cooper's in Llano. It has the right vibe for a grade A BBQ place

Service A+++. Food A+++. Eat here for sure if you're in Marfa. The brisket, sausage and ribs tender, so well seasoned and juicy. They were to die for. I'm from Austin, so please use that gold standard for reference. Soooo good!

One of the best bar b que places I've been to. The pitmaster Mark and his team make you feel like room royalty with their fantastic service. The food that is presented is nothing short of stellar. I will be back, and so will my friends who were with me. All I can say is go here!!

M

Get here early on weekends only to enjoy one of Texas' 25 best BBQ joints! The folks that work here are gems of humanity, and the brisket, dip dip and desserts are glorious.

LOLLLZZZZ!!! 4.8. This is the BEST BBQ in the state, possibly anywhere. Too bad there isn't a 6 rating to offset the novice "food critics" CW tha Bomb!

M

Do yourself a favor and eat here. This is the best Texas BBQ I’ve ever had (as a Memphis-native this is saying a lot). Juicy, and flavorful, even without sauce — which are words I thought I’d never say.

P

Had the barbeque salad. It was amazing. Can't quit talking about how good it was. Best barbeque beef I have had in ages. Just wish it wasn't 8 hours away. Who knew barbeque beef and kale were a thing.

Huge portions! The bbq is so good, it would be sin to drown it in sauce. Great sides to finish the meal. Include this on your to-do-list while visiting Marfa.

Excellent brisket, some of the best I’ve had. Serving included cuts from the point and the flat, both were moist and flavorful. Didn’t order anything else, but highly recommend trying.

This is a must stop in Marfa! We enjoyed our brisket plate. The brisket had good flavor and smoke. I would have preferred moist but didnt specify when I ordered. The sides were delicious! We had sweet potato salad (like traditional potato salad but with sweet potatoes), jicama slaw, verde macaroni and pickled veggies. Never had such creative and delicious sides at a bbq joint. We chose tortillas instead of blue cornbread and had enough brisket to make tacos the next day for lunch. Be sure to arrive at least by 6pm and remember they're only open on the weekend. The night we visited a sign on the door said "Sold Out" by 7:30pm.

M
Michael Brooks

Super fun. Food was fantastic, owner/operators we're incredibly nice. Get there early before it sells out!

N

Everyone, including Texas Monthly, knows that the brisket is some of the best in Texas, but the sides are wonderful too. The Carrot Dip Dip was amazing as were the beet jewels, side salad, pickled red onions (I need to up my home pickling game) and garlic green beans. We sat so we could see the kitchen and that was like watching a well orchestrated dance. This is a jewel in Marfa's crown.

d

initally disappointed they were out of pork ribs, we complimented them on how good the brisket was, especially with their homemade pickles. it ranks up there with the best. we found out a week later when we got that home that texas monthly things so too, naming it 4th place out of 50 best bbq joints in the state. we found this place at random. could say we lucked out.

J

SPECTACULAR! Don't let the name fool you, this is a quality BBQ restaurant. Great spot, friendly staff, decent parking. Indoor and outdoor seating some covered some not. The outdoor space is plenty big for well behaved canines and children too. Quirky but clean bathrooms. This is a not to miss spot for your through travels.

Convenience West is a bbq oasis in the middle of West Texas! We made the rookie mistake of arriving around 7:30 pm (get there when they open if you can) but thankfully they had just enough food left to make our brisket and rib dreams come true. I had the ribs with a side salad, blue corn cornbread, sweet potato salad, and pickled veggies. Everything AND I MEAN EVERYTHING was delicious. They also have a unexpectedly wide variety of cold craft beers available which helped beat the desert heat. Overall, I would highly recommend this place and am already spreading the word of their bbq brilliance to the DFW area!

Holy smokes! I feel pretty confident that this is just the very best barbecue I've had in my life. I'm as serious as a Sean Penn movie when it comes to barbecue and comfort food in general and I can't think of anything that's even close to this good. The ribs, chicken and brisket were spot-on perfect. The sides were the same level of incredible and everything is prepared from scratch. Right down to the pickles. Look, you've gotta take my advice on this one and if you've never been then make time to go and do it soon. I am just not kidding when I say that it doesn't get any better than this.

Yum this place is legit y'all! Brisket was top notch, homemade pickles so good 🙌🙌, jalapeños were a nice fresh element. Pretty sure they were homemade tortillas (if they weren't, they tricked me) but they were bomb. Had the smoked potato and slaw as sides and they were definitely stars as well. I hate mayo based slaw so I never order it but took a gamble and I'm glad I did bc this was not mayo trash. It had jalapeños in it so beware if you can't handle the spice, but definitely an added bonus imo! Oh, and the service was amazing, super friendly and inviting!

A

Hands down the best brisket and spare ribs I've ever had. Perfectly tender meat, and so flavorful that it felt wrong to use sauce (though the sauce is excellent as well).

R
Ryan Altieri

Got the brisket tacos and some sides last night. Long wait about an hour and half between waiting in line and then getting the food. Everyone was very friendly and the brisket was unbelievable. Will be stopping back next time I’m in the area, but I will order ahead of time to avoid the wait.

Coming from someone in Houston, this was the best BBQ. The sweet potato salad is a must, I'm still thinking about it, maybe share the recipe haha? Thanks for having us!

This secrete in Marfa is a must!!! Plan your trip to Marfa that you can dine there. The BBQ is some of the best, and my husband and I consider Snows and Franklins our favorite. This little secrete goes toe to toe. The Brisket melted in our mouth and the boudin links were fantastic. I must say the sweet potato salad was so fresh. They are finalists for James’s Beard Award to be announced in June. This young couple deserves this win. Fingers crossed

So so good. Best meat I’ve had in my life. The brisket is crunchy, buttery, and just amazing. I’m so happy because of this amazing establishment. The waiters were so friendly and helpful. The interior design looks so cool. I love this place so much 11:/10

By far the best BBQ I've ever had! So good, sauce would actually ruin it, not make it better. Had the ribs, brisket and brisket tacos (we had to go back for a second round since it was so good). Sides are delicious and not your typical take on BBQ sides. They are new and fresh and something you would expect to see in a cool, hip urban restaurant. And the people were very nice! When we went back for plate 2, they gave us a lot of burnt ends! I think they were treating us right since we obviously enjoyed. If you go to, or through Marfa, make sure you eat here!

I've lived here for almost 6 years and never tried this place. So I go online to place an order, this is how it was set up. Well starting that week it changed to come stand in line. First come, first serve. The line and wait wasted bad but the sun was too hot, definitely need more shade covering. The brisket, ribs and sweet potato salad was on point. Juicy, seasoned and the sweet potato salad very good. Had a slice of the chocolate cake. And OMG! They have to list it as coca cola cake. Because this isn't just chocolate cake. It's a blast to my past. It's yummy, rich coca cola cake. Thank you

Went last year. Some of the best bbq I've had in my travels. Stayed north at the campground, searched for bbq in the area, saw this and it was Saturday so I knew I had to make the drive as they're only open Friday and Saturday nights. Went early, stood in line 1/2 hr til they opened, about a dozen people in line after me. Brought my dog, sat outside, we both really enjoyed the brisket!!!

Convenience West is beyond incredible for too many reasons. We can start first with the BBQ which we should as it is too phenomenal. The hand hewn craft in every cut, the amazing sides, the inventive deserts. It's so dang good. But as soon as we are done talking food we have to talk service and people. These are best human beings on the planet and such a fixture in the community. You don't have to know them personally for them to treat you like gold. A world class experience is what it truly is.

K

We have eaten Brisket, Brisket Sausage, Brisket Tacos, Kale Salad, and all the sauces/sides. Best BBQ we’ve had anywhere ever. The people are lovely and the Covid-19 precautions are on point. (order ahead/take away only) Very safe, happy & delicious experience.

As a native Texan, this is a sin to say, but hear me out: I’m glad they were sold out of brisket. Because otherwise I would not have tried a turkey torta! This torta was so full of flavor and incredibly satisfying, the best thing I’ve eaten in months!! While I will be returning to try the brisket, for now I am here to say please don’t shy away from the rest of the menu because it is full of delicious and thoughtfully crafted surprises!

M

All good here THANK YOU CW for bringing your delicious BBQ to MARFA!!! The carrot dip dip you have to try it. Green chili cream corn sweet and smooth green chili brightens it up. Brisket Frito pie is a meal in itself and big enough to share - perfect for kids. Brisket perfect bark and smoke ring. Melts in your mouth.

J

Probably the best brisket tacos I’ve ever tasted. I live 7 hours away and my second trip to Marfa was planned around coming here for their food. I don’t know what they do their red onions but they’re so fresh and tasty. Everyone here is friendly, they have a patio to sit on outside as well. I would highly recommend coming here to eat as I plan to do again!

The BBQ is slow cooked and treated perfectly by the staff at Convenience West. We stopped by for a little of everything and the flavors were many and delicious. I loved their brisket. The meat was soft and all the fat rendered nicely. Yard bird was 💯. They even had frito pie sausage. The sides were numerous. Beets, sweet potato, carrot dip, elote (Street corn), and even fresh tortillas to eat everything.

One of my favorite things about being a recent Marfa transplant is that now I have the opportunity to try all the places that I wouldn't have the chance to hit on tourist time, and Convenience West is one of those places. You know as soon as you roll up that they are not playing. Line of people outside. A grill big enough to sleep 2. The menu written in Sharpie on some butcher paper. I ordered the rib torta and the reaction from the lady at the register was "hell yeah! You're gonna love that one." And she was right. The sandwich plus a side of cajun red beans were more than even a seasoned eater like myself could put away in one attempt, but damn if I didn't try. I hated the idea of any of this excellent meal going to waste. Barbecue places can be really hit or miss. I've been to restaurants that traffic in dry meat you're expected to soak in sauce to make it palatable. This is not one of those spots. Their meats, their entrees, and their sides are all absolutely killer. I'm honestly looking forward to coming back.

Amazing folks running this bbq joint. The food was just as amazing, i would drive from San Antonio every weekend for bbq this good! A rotating menu, locally sourced, and beautifully prepared. My wife had the tacos, little burnt ends and great little pickled onions, and her sweet potato salad was so fresh and tender. I had the combo, brisket and rib, so tender, no sauce, it would have been a crime to sauce this juicy tender fatty pieces of brisket. The rib was cooked to perfection, dry rubbed, but so juicy, loved it! A must visit if you are in the area!

W

This place is legit. They are definitely the best BBQ in West Texas I've personally experienced. Daniel Vaughn needs to come out here....they should be ranked by Texas Monthly. Ribs and Brisket were smoked to perfection....you can tell they use a true offset smoker with oak wood. Seasoning was on point, and the sides....gotta have the sweet potato salad (great idea!). Highly, highly recommend!

M

Delicious brisket in which is the baseline for all great bbq in my opinion. Very tender. Also tried the carrot dip dip which was great too! They were mentioned in Texas monthly and I was honored and lucky to be in town to try it all out!

Hot & Sweet over cream cheese with Fritos to start (gonna have to stop back and take some home), followed by some killer brisket tacos and sandwich. Quick dill pickle ilea were great too, just a hint of acidity with plenty of crunch left. Interesting former gas station space with a large patio and friendly staff.

Fantastic bbq dinner last night with 2 different favours of ribs. The curried beans and sweet potatoe salad were fantastic. The flavour highlight for me were the collards, a little tart, a little sweet and all around delicious. Service was fast and cordial. Folks in the line up were friendly and happy to chat with us tourists. Seating was all outside so bundle up. Lots of paper towel at the tables so dig in and enjoy.

Do NOT miss this spot!! It is not your average BBQ joint. It’s the best brisket I have had anywhere in the country. The ratio of meat and other toppings is top notch. Also absolutely amazing service! Thank you Kaki!! You’re doing great things!! Love, the Portland, Seattle and Salt Lake ladies!

M

Brisket was moist, cooked perfectly and cut in generous slices. The sauce had the perfect level of spice. The brisket boudin sausage had a great balance of flavors and texture. The homemade pickles and onions were delicious and the sides - sweet potato salad, garlic green beans and the carrot dip - were thoroughly enjoyable. The weather was crisp and cool so we ate at one of the outside tables and loved how everything came out on treys so deliciously arranged. It’s clear the owner is tremendously talented and takes great care in creating an unforgettable BBQ experience in Marfa. Highly recommend!

The most divine BBQ I've ever had, hands down, no doubt. The brisket here is heavenly: moist and incredibly tender, with a buttery quality that insists you say "wow!!" after each.and.every.bite. The collard greens are true Collard Queens, with a sweetness that elevates then to some next level kinda veggies. Even the veggie garnishes are amazing, particularly the pickled red onions. Please, do yourself a favor and experience this flavor firsthand. It may just be the best decision you make all year.

Delicious BBQ and great service! We went during spring break, and the food was great. The brisket was really good, and the all beef frito sausage was one of a kind. If you like pickles, ask for the extra side order…the pickles are made there! Convenience West is listed in Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ list, and lives up to the ranking. Definitely plan to stop here if you’re visiting West Texas/Marfa. I believe it’s only open Friday and Saturday evenings! There is no indoor dining, you’ll park, get in line, order food at the front. Picnic tables are outside! The BBQ was worth the wait!

Good LORD!! Everything was absolutely phenomenal. Brisket was soft and moist and the ribs had a delicious and beautiful layer of spices crusted on top. The bbq sauce was YUMMY! All the sides were so unique and flavorful. We got the broccoli salad, sweet potato salad, and the corn salad. They added such a nice freshness paired with the meats. The PICKLES!!! Omg. I should have ordered more. We arrived on a Friday night around 6:00 and there was no wait. Ample outdoor seating, and cool vibes.

I’m going to say it: the best ribs I have ever had. And the brisket is up there. Even the potato salad may be the best potato salad I’ve had. This place is incredible. I will never come to Marfa again without planning around getting bbq from here because I don’t think I can be in Marfa and not eat here without complete regret. From the hot links to the chicken, it was just a highlight. The added tortillas and salsa to make tacos was just a bonus. I have yet to even mention the pickles. Order the pickles! What a highlight of my time in Marfa. But it was so good that this place was a highlight beyond just my visit. You do have to order ahead. So, if you’re visiting, plan early! Their hours and food availability seem very limited right now. But I hope you don’t miss out.

As a Texan I've had my fair share of great bbq from Lockhart to Franklin's and can confidently say that Convenience West holds their own. The brisket tacos were good and the chicken was super tender, juicy and delicious. I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting bbq to go hear.

Best barbeque I have ever had.. the pork ribs melted in your mouth and brisket was perfection. I recommend you show up by 6pm because things start selling out pretty fast. The side were also good- the beets were great. Check out their smoker in the front of the store :)

We picked up some BBQ one night while in Marfa to take home to enjoy. Convenience West makes a highly desirable brisket that was full of smoked flavor. We tried the Frito Chili Pie sausage and I ended up eating ALL of it. The cornbread is phenomenal and also very pretty from the blue cornmeal. As sides, we picked beans and beets. The next morning as well as the one after, I turned the leftover brisket into breakfast tacos with eggs and cheese. Highly recommend everyone to swing by when they are open to try this gem in the lovely Marfa, Texas!!

First time here. Visited with my brother in law Frank. Lot of history for us former Marfans. The brisket & ribs were some of the best that I have had. I travel full time and have eaten BBQ all over the US. This ranks amongst the best. From Austin’s BBQ scene, Tennessee, to the Carolinas. Thank you and good luck!

This is it: the place, the mecca, heaven on earth. If you are into bbq, you must stop and try this place. You won’t be disappointed, and you will absolutely leave full. The BBQ was amazing, and the portions are huge. I love how they give you some tortillas, it made eating the smoked meat easier. It was the end of the day, so the chef brought out some free blueberry crumble. It hit the spot, and was a great end to a delicious meal.

Marfa is not the easiest place to get to, unless you live there, but this bbq joint is worth the drive. If you didn't know Tx. had mountains then it's a scenic drive. These guys are doing it right, with some great brisket, sausage and burnt ends. The trip is worth the dining experience at the end. This is some dang good bbq. Go see the Marfa lights and plan a stop at Convenience West. You won't be disappointed.

I should have ordered more. We arrived on a Friday night around 6:00 and there was no wait. Ample outdoor seating, and cool vibes.

Delicious BBQ! Ribs fell right off the bone and were seasoned to perfection! The turkey was also delicious! First time having sweet potato salad and I was not disappointed... It was awesome! Washed it all down with an ice cold beer just topped off the experience!

Outdoor seating only, so come prepared. Great friendly people working there. What I got: Brisket Torta: 10/10 Cajun red beans: 9/10 great flavor

Wow. Floored by how good the craft bbq available in Marfa is! Get everything on the menu, but make sure you especially get the carrot dip dip! Oh and add extra tortillas!

The staff was very pleasant and attentive. They greeted with a smile. The bark was great on all of the protein items we ordered with good smokey flavors. The only drawback is that the rub on the meats, I felt was a bit salty. The menu is interesting as they are trying to revamp the typical BBQ sides, so you will be surprised with and eating adventure.

The barbecue was phenomenal although they were out of brisket when we got there. Sides were great. Carrot Dip Dip is fantastic. Some things to note: -There is no indoor seating and the outdoor seating lacks shade. -They do not have ice, so if you are getting water with your meal, expect it to be hot. You may want to order a drink rather than getting water so that it’s cold. -The dill pickles are more like bread and butter pickles, not true dills. -The staff is super nice and helpful, but with as busy as this place gets, things can be a bit slow.

What? No brisket? Wasn’t even on the menu, which was a shocker since all the reviews bragged about it, and the reason we spent our 1 dinner there while in Marfa. Tri-tip was just ok, but it’s a poor meat choice for bbq. Where’s the brisket?!. Sauce provided was just ok. Dip dip was tasty. Potato salad sweet and surprisingly tasty. Cornbread was outstanding. All outdoor seating which is nice, but it looked like they had indoor seating that they weren’t using - prob fear from Covid days, but I think we’re past that. Seems our expectations were too high. 4 stars is generous by Texas BBQ standards.

Solid place in town if not the only good place in town to get fantastic bbq plates and sides. Very good meats and tons of side options. Fast pick up for order ahead option. Adjacent seating at picnic tables after 5pm. 4-5pm you can get to go orders if you order days ahead which we did. Super kind server works there to. She rocks! Frito pie sausage is dope! Get that for something different. The house bbq sauce is also very good!

Great BBQ, good sides, good prices and friendly service. Only wish they had more covered setting, its Texas and the sun is brutal. I really like the side options, different and delicious. Meat was tender and juicy, really good bbq sauce too! Get there early or it’ll be sold out. 😋

Food was very tasty. Sides offered are different and delicious. HOWEVER...my brisket, which is portioned by weight, was 2 slices of fat with some meat. I get that brisket cooks best w gristle and fat. BUT...should be served with alot less fat and more meat.

Pretty good BBQ…neither outstanding or bad. The service was good for how busy it was. I wouldn’t recommend the brisket sandwich as half of it was just fat but maybe that was bad luck? The actual meat was quite tasty.

Quirky place with a twist on traditional BBQ. Only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday and they serve on a first come first serve basis so once they run out, your run out of luck. I rate it a 3 because the wait in line was ridiculous.... The locals who know the place had friends meet them in line so I was cut in front of by 7 people....you guessed it...by the time I got to the counter to order ... OUT of brisket and chicken and out of corn. I was left with scraps to choose from to order our meal. Some chicken tacos and 3 ribs for $34. You live only once so I had to try because the locals said so..... but they can have it.

10/10 carrot dip dip. I’ve never tasted anything quite like this. I really like that it wasn’t excessively sweet and seasoned with exotic spices. I could feel the carrot shining through. Easily the star of my dinner here much to my surprise. 8/10 the other sides. The corn was mid compared to the corn I had at Valentina’s in Austin. It just felt bland and it had too much going on. It was also a little too dry. I thought the curried beans were too bland as well but after a while they grew on me. The were cold and I needed something to counteract the overly salty brisket. 6/10 brisket. The cut of brisket was good, but it was waaaaay too salty. I did ask for burnt ends but I’ve never had burnt ends this salty before. I also felt some off flavors on one of the slices I got. Lastly no matter how much I tried sniffing around I wasn’t satisfied with how smoky the brisket felt. I saw a smoke ring but that was about it. 6/10 brisket tacos. There was too little brisket and too much other stuff. The brisket was simply overwhelmed by the sour cream and cheese, in stark contrast to what I observed at Valentina’s where the brisket played a starring role. 10/10 service. Everyone was super nice, and the bbq spot itself is a quaint establishment with a cute small-town vibe where the regulars are welcomed like old friends. It pains me to give this spot 3 stars because the carrot dip dip was phenomenal. But this is a bbq spot in Texas. Brisket is what matters. — @eddythefoodcritic

My co-adventurer and i made plans specifically to include where to eat and on what days to maximize our experience from Austin region to wrstTx, and No I didn't spell that wrong. Marfa. To a town that could use a little pick me up... here's a thought... Try showing up when you say you will be available on the world wide web. Because guess what, people travel from all over and actually read references from influences across the globe and most importantly the state. To be nominated for a James Beard award and not be current with your street or door advertising compared to your World Wide Web is not only a gross misuse of your popularity but also the www.
