The best gourmet pizza I’ve ever had!! I had the chicken marsala and it was absolutely delicious. The appetizers were amazing as well. It was a wonderful atmosphere, and service! It’s as delicious as it is pretty. Didn’t take a picture of the other food we had , but it was delicious.
Great service by Jaymes. Gave us the best recommendations on what pastas to get. It did not disappoint!! Molto Bene!!
The food was amazing!!! The focaccia app, Gorgonzola ravioli with chicken and a meat livers pizza to go. It was my first time here and I got a few things Jaymes recommended! He did not disappoint! Also his service was spectacular! What a gentleman.
Hands down the best spot for Italian cuisine in the McAllen area. The atmosphere is welcoming, the food is consistently delicious, and the service is outstanding. The gorgonzola ravioli and pappardelle bolognese were incredible, and the wood-fired pizzas are truly one of a kind in the RGV. Whether you’re planning a family dinner or a date night, this place delivers. Ask for Luis if you want best-in-class service — it’s immediately clear when someone is a true master of their craft
The restaurant looks quite high end. We ordered a pizza for take out mid-afternoon and reheated it for dinner. Pepperoni, cheese & mushroom- it was awesome. Crust was tasty, thin & crispy-just what we were looking for! We will definitely be back.
This was our very first time coming and we had a magical night. The food was amazing and atmosphere was incomparable. Jaymes was our server tonight and he was extremely helpful from drink options all the way to our dessert. Unforgettable night!
Thank you James for you great service! We had an awesome experience here today. It was our first time and we loved it. We tried the Iceberg Wedge Primero as an appetizer, Risotto Negro which we really loved, and the Conchiglie Al Forno. The Tiramisu was delicious! The recommendations were made by the server and they were on point. Thank you!!
Very good food and service at a reasonable price. Great selection of wines and very good drinks. Menu changed recently and a few of my favorites are no longer available, but current menu is still very good. Must bring back the eggplant parm. Already have chicken parm and an eggplant bake that is just not as good as the eggplant parm was. Woodfired pizzas are fantastic. Always get great service especially from Johnny (bartender)!
From the moment we stepped into this cozy Italian gem, we were greeted with warmth, charm, and exceptional hospitality. The entire staff made us feel like family, and a special shoutout goes to Zach, our waiter, whose attentiveness and knowledge elevated the entire evening. His recommendations were spot-on and made our dining experience truly unforgettable. We started with the calamari, perfectly crisp on the outside, tender on the inside—an absolute must-try. But the real star of the night was the BRANZINO AL VINO BIANCO—their signature dish. Delicately prepared, bathed in a light white wine sauce, and bursting with Mediterranean flavor, it was a masterpiece on a plate. And just when we thought the evening couldn’t get better, along came the tiramisu. Light, creamy, and rich with espresso flavor—it was simply to die for. A sweet ending to a perfect night. Grazie mille to the whole team for such a delightful experience. We’ll be back—soon and often!
Absolutely loved our visit to Il Forno a Legna! The pizza was incredible — fresh, flavorful, and perfectly wood-fired with that delicious crispy crust. You can really taste the quality ingredients and the love they put into their food. Cozy atmosphere and friendly service made it even better. Definitely a new favorite spot for authentic Italian pizza!
Had an amazing experience at Il Forno a Legna! The service was excellent, and the food was just as great. Our bartender, Johnny, was the highlight of the night so nice, sweet, and incredibly outgoing. He was very talkative, funny, and made us feel so welcome. He also crafted some of the best drinks, including a delicious cucumber beverage and passion fruit strawberry mix that was perfectly sweet. It made for a fantastic Valentine’s Day! Highly recommend this place, and if you’re at the bar, definitely ask for Johnny!
Excellent dining experience all the way around .. the charcuterie board is a must try ... And all the entrees were wow ! just 🤯 The salad was so fresh and a large portion as well ...the pepperoni on the pizza was so tasty with a flavor filled soft crust... If you prefer a soft crust on your pizza take it just as ordered... If not you may want to request a crispier crust. The service is exceptional and the dining atmosphere just perfect
Jaymes was our waiter and he was awesome! We had great service! Our favorite part of the meal was the calamari! We ordered the lasagna and the rustica pizza but weren't blown away because both dishes lacked flavor. Thanks Jaymes!
It was our first time dining here and we decided to order the Margherita Pizza and the Conchiglie al Forno (CAF). The CAF had terrific flavor and was cooked perfectly. The pizza was alright; it had a nice flavor to it but the dough was way too thin and, because of it, it didn’t have enough sauce and cheese to keep the slice together. As soon as I picked up the slice, what little was there slipped off. I would skip the pizza, next time and focus on trying their pasta dishes. The service was pretty good. We went around 05:00 pm so we didn’t have to wait to get seated. The decor is nice and would make for a good date night setting.
This was my first time dining here and right as I walked in I liked the atmosphere immediately. For our appetizer we ordered the Bruschetta/Shrimp which was so good. I think the shrimp took away the fresh flavor it has on its own but, either way it was still delicious. Our waiter recommended the Rustica pizza and it was my favorite! So much flavor all in one bite. I would’ve never thought asparagus would taste so good on a pizza. My fiancé enjoyed the Margherita Pizza but I wasn’t too impressed. It just tasted like a plain tomato sauce pizza. I would’ve given this place a 5-star rating if we had a more enthusiastic waiter. Other than that we had an enjoyable experience.
So…..we made a reservation early during the day about 12 noon via open table and requested table 7 and sandra the manager (family) said we could not have it.. so we complied. But as the evening went on we noticed that table 7 was never occupied. Very un pleased with sandra manager Service from Zac waiter was great and food was great. Please accommodate your guests next time !
So, we ordered a mid-price bottle of chianti and a cheese board for starters. The cheese board described in the menu had apple slices and other things described in it. It came instead with balsamic pickled onions, some charcuterie, olives and huge chunks of roquefort (blue) and parmesan cheeses. The cheese chunks were overwhelming and inappropriate as appetizer, the onions were just not what I have ever seen in any cheese board. Then we proceeded to order a pasta with meat ragu, and added meatballs to it to maximize protein, and decided to split it. They brought the pasta served in soup bowls (???). We casually mentioned our thoughts to the server, who had asked about how everything was going. Suddenly a female rep came to talk to us. We told her what we thought and asked for pasta plates for the pasta, because a soup bowl is just that, a soup bowl. She said their charcuterie board was what customers in general had requested, and that Il Forno does not like for customers to split entrees. We told her that policy should be printed in the menu (which is not). Our server trasnfered the pasta to pasta plates, and we ate it. The pasta was delicious, but our overall experience is that it's not worth coming back, we have many options in town, and we don't like substandard and misleading offerings. The female rep's attitude made an impression. We're never going back.
The service was friendly, but I was disappointed with the food. The Carbonara pasta sauce was overcooked and lacked the freshness I expected. I was also surprised by a $12 upcharge for just four pieces of shrimp — it felt excessive for what was offered. I really wanted to enjoy the meal more, but it didn’t live up to the price.
Went there with my wife and her family. My sister-in-law said they have good cocktails. I can't vouch for those since I don't drink, but the food was just mediocre. I got the carbonara, and it had no flavor at all. My wife had the Rustica pizza, which was okay, but there are better places for pizza, in my opinion. We also ordered a margarita pizza, which was okay also. As far as the service, it was horrible. Apparently, the waiter was new and didn't know how to operate the machine to put in orders. He didn't speak English very well so the communication wasn't great either. Anyways, mine and my wife food came out right away, but everyone else had to wait about an hour because somehow their orders got lost. The manager came over after and we paid, but on our way out the door, the waiter chased us down and accused us of not paying. It was really crazy.
The experience started off on the right foot—the hostess was friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, that’s where it ended. When the manager arrived at the host stand, her attitude immediately shifted the tone. She was rude and off-putting, bluntly stating there was a $25 cake fee, as if our presence was an inconvenience. This isn’t the first time we’ve had a negative interaction with her, and it’s disappointing. If guests are coming in to celebrate a birthday, basic politeness shouldn’t feel like too much to ask. As for the food—mediocre Italian at best. The steak was extremely over-salted. The menu listed mashed potatoes, but what arrived were chunky cut potatoes instead. The carbonara oddly tasted like seafood and became more overpowering with every bite. The fettuccine felt incomplete, like something crucial was missing. Overall, it seems seasoning is a recurring issue in the kitchen. For a restaurant branding itself as authentic Italian, there’s also no true espresso machine, which really takes away from the experience. And despite the restaurant boasting about its pizza, it was telling that not a single table appeared to be ordering it. The ambiance and decor are nice, but when Olive Garden delivers better flavor, that says a lot. Sadly, good looks can’t make up for poor service and forgettable food.
