We had such a wonderful experience here! The food was absolutely delicious—every dish was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. You can really tell the kitchen takes pride in what they serve. What made the experience truly special, though, was our server Alexis Antonio Reyes de la Caridad Cruz. 😂😂😂🩵🫰🏻 Alexis was incredibly warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from the moment we sat down. He gave us excellent recommendations and everyone was happy with their order. It felt like he really cared about making sure we had a great time and we did. Service like that is rare in Miami and made the whole experience feel extra memorable. Great food, great atmosphere, and truly amazing service. Alexis Antonio Reyes de la Caridad Cruz thanks for an unforgettable afternoon. We are coming back! 📣
Michael’s Genuine is one of those places that never disappoints. The niçoise salad is outstanding and perfectly balanced, and it is honestly one of the best versions I have had anywhere. When stone crab is in season, it is a must order. Everything is incredibly fresh and simply prepared, which really lets the quality speak for itself. The atmosphere is relaxed but polished, and the service always feels professional without being stuffy. It is the kind of place you can return to again and again, whether for a casual lunch or a great dinner in the Design District. A true Miami staple that still feels timeless.
I brought my mother here to celebrate her 62nd birthday. Our server Alex was the best!! He really made the experience even more special. The manager Amanda was also very sweet, checking in on us and making sure we were taken care of. I’ve been here several times, but this was my mother’s first time and she said she couldn’t wait to come back next time she’s in town. Thanks again Alex and Amanda. Also, my mother really appreciated the birthday card the talented hostess created for her. You all made her feel so special. We had the burrata (got an extra plate to go) and devil eggs for our starters. (Can’t go wrong with either of those dishes) The falafel mezze and roasted snapper for our mains. (Both were delicious. *chefs kiss) And the creme brûlée and Malva pudding for dessert . Creme brulee is my all time favorite but I decided to try something new and I was not disappointed. I would choose the Malva pudding over any dessert and that’s saying a lot from someone who loves creme brulee.
We loved Michael’s Genuine so much that we ate there two days in a row—dinner one night and lunch the next—and every single dish was exceptional. At lunch, we had the cobia sandwich and the burger, both perfectly executed and incredibly satisfying. We started with the house-made potato chips and onion dip, which were addictive in the best way. We also ordered the tuna carpaccio again after having it the night before for dinner—and it was hands down the best tuna carpaccio we’ve ever had. Consistent, fresh, and beautifully balanced. Beyond the food, the experience really stands out. The staff are attentive and genuinely courteous, and the restaurant is clearly very well managed. Everything runs smoothly without feeling rushed or pretentious. The location is fantastic—set among beautiful shops with great people watching, which adds to the overall experience. Definitely use the valet for parking; it makes things easy and stress-free. A true standout in Miami—this is the kind of place you immediately plan to return to.
Michael’s Genuine is truly a Miami gem. With a rotating menu, you can visit multiple times and never eat the same thing twice. Prices are typical Miami prices, so don’t expect a cheap bill, but the quality makes it worth it. The truffle pizza was the highlight of the night, the cocktails were incredible, and the service was exceptional from start to finish. The ambiance is beautiful, and every dish we tried was outstanding. The dessert— the coquito tres leches — was absolutely to die for. This place is a must-visit in Miami!
Michael’s Genuine is consistently recommended by everyone who works in the neighborhood. We went again last Wednesday, after it was personally suggested by Antoine Brandt from Versace, and once more it did not disappoint. The service is exceptional: warm, attentive, and genuinely professional. The staff elevates the entire experience, and you can feel how well the team is trained. Every dish feels intentional and beautifully executed. Whether for lunch, dinner, or a pre-fashion-event stop, Michael’s Genuine remains a reliable, high-quality choice. Always a pleasure to return.
We had a truly fantastic dining experience today, thanks entirely to our server, Sarah. Her service was nothing short of phenomenal. Sarah demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to making our meal enjoyable, excelling in every aspect of her role. Her attention to detail was outstanding—she anticipated our needs efficiently and professionally. Beyond her impeccable service, Sarah also possesses a great sense of humour, which made the entire interaction memorable and fun. She is a remarkable asset to this restaurant, and we highly recommend seeking her out on your next visit! Thank you, Sarah!
Outstanding food and service never disappointing. We ordered the triple tail fish, tuna carpaccio and squash salad with feta, all were delicious and perfectly seasoned.
Mike is the perfect example of fantastic customer services and we enjoyed our meal. To top off the great service and compaction, we ordered a danish that I personally did not like much and the manager sent me another desert that was delish and they did not charge me for neither. What a great experience and will definitely come back again and again and will recommend to everyone I know…thank you so much!
This restaurant is incredibly easy to access! The staff is wonderful—extremely accommodating and polite. Our waiter, Sebastian, was fantastic and answered all our questions about the menu with ease. The drinks were exceptional; my wife enjoyed an extra drink with Tito’s and blue cheese olives, which was outstanding! We will definitely be returning to this delightful place again!
Wow. Wow. WOW. That’s all I have to say about Michael’s. I came in with zero expectations and left FLOORED. The service from the bartenders Salgi (Slagi?) & Jake were absolutely phenomenal. And beyond that, yeah, they were Michelin rated, but I don’t care about that when checking a place out, but they ABSOLUTELY deserved it. Their happy hour was by far one of the best I ever experienced in Miami. Their apps are $6 & cocktails $10. Their amazing. Don’t miss out on this and go NOW.
We had an amazing experience for Miami Spice. Food was delectable, drinks are creative, and service was top notch. Nadia really took great care of us and made our night out special.
The hype around this place... completely justified. The wood fired prawns, the shrimp toast, the beef tartar, and their roast chicken were all absolutely impeccable. I straight up cannot come up with a single negative remark for any of those dishes. My pork chop was a tad under seasoned and cooked a solid medium (I prefer my chops medium rare), but I can't fault any restaurant on those remarks considering how sensitive some people are to salt and how much some people absolutely freak if their pork isn't cooked bone dry. The absolute star of the show, though? Their service. It was better than joints I've patronized that are far higher in price point or reputation. Their staff worked like a well oiled machine, while still being incredibly friendly and welcoming. I will, without a doubt, be coming back here, if I ever visit this city again. I'll also be sending any friend who come through this way too. What an absolute gem. Just 🤌
What a great and delicious lunch we had. All the appetizers and lunch items we ordered were right on spot. The kids enjoyed the items on the kid's menu too. Our server was very attentive and made us feel right at home. The ambiance was very modern and warm. Loved it!

i had a great experience myself. went for a late lunch in the miami spice month, and they sat me despite it being last call. i sat on the bar and the girls there made the time amazing, great service and good chats. the food was good, the pesto casarecce was good, i couldn’t finish because of a big portion (i usually don’t leave any pasta left). and dulce de leche desert amazing too.
Nice restaurant in Design district. Food is great, especially lamb meatballs, so much flavor! They offer indoor and outdoor seating. Service is great too.
I had the opportunity to enjoy Michael’s Genuine Food and Drink during Miami Spice/Restaurant Month with some girlfriends and it was truly divine! The waiters were friendly and knowledgeable and the ambience was inviting with comfortable, cushioned booth seats, candlelight, and lush plant decor. I ordered baked scallops, sirloin and tahini cheesecake from the Spice menu and got the wine pairing for each course as well. The scallops were well seasoned and tender paired with sparkling white wine. The sirloin was a little bit fatty but I enjoyed the texture and accompanying horseradish sauce. It was paired with a delicious red blend specially crafted for Michael’s. The combination of chocolate ganache and tahini in the cheesecake was delicious! I also loved the paired dessert wine. We were delighted to receive a complimentary flan which melted in the mouth! I will absolutely be returning for dinner and happy hours 😄
From the very helpful maitre d' to our lovely waiter Gianluca we had the loveliest of lunches. Excellent food, lovely fresh ingredients, great service and reasonable prices. We had the baked feta and the mixed leaf salad with peaches and goats cheese and a serving of each was enough for Himself and I to share for lunch. Highly recommended. And yes, this is America so free water which as you may know is very important to us from an eco stand point. Hope you found this review helpful
Nadia took such great care of us during happy hour! She was attentive without being overbearing, made excellent recommendations, and made sure our drinks were always full. Her friendly personality and professionalism truly elevated the experience — we left feeling welcomed and well taken care of. Can’t wait to come back and be served by her again! By far, one of the best experience we had, the service excellent, very acknowledge and answer all our questions and the recomendations where on point. You can feel the pasion and dedication in the food, in every detail of the plate you feel the love. The desserts are pure magic. This restaurant is an experience
Brilliant spin on every dish, big flavors and healthy eclectic choices employing high quality seasonal yummy foo. Larger groups can enjoy different small plates and numerous sides as an introduction to the main event. Solid bar scene with a good vibe that transitions as the evening progresses delivers something for most. Try the new Uni sandwich- pic below
There once was a meal so divine, With service that truly did shine. Lamb-stuffed dates led the way, Then carpaccio’s sway, And desserts that were simply sublime. The Cremosa was chocolatey bliss, Carrot pudding a warm, gooey kiss. Free gelato bestowed, With sea salt it glowed, A ten-out-of-ten feast not to miss!
Awesome food, great customer service, and beautiful atmosphere. Located in an EXPENSIVE part of the city, Michael's Genuine Food and Grill has fair prices. Definitely genuine, definitely tasty. Severs were deeply knowledgeable about the process of the restaurant's food and even had recommendations for dishes that best complimented each other. Food was nothing less than great. Each ingredient had its compliments to the dish. Even the bus boy helped to explain the menu. Definitely go. I recommend the short rib.
Locally sourced comfort food at it's best! This was our first time returning to Michael's Genuine since it's remodeling and the new atmosphere (both inside and outside) perfectly fits the Design District. Whether you choose from their Bites, Small, Medium or Mains (Entrées) part of the menu, you won't be disappointed. I especially love how they always incorporate seasonal fruits in their dishes. Tonight's dinner run down was... MGFD Ceviche (Raw Bar), Snails and Assorted Lettuce (Small Plates), Crispy Duck Confit (Medium Plates) and Crispy Lechón (Main). As good as the duck was, we missed their Crispy Pork Belly (always recommended). If you're a Sticky Toffee Pudding fan, definitely try theirs!! It was served with Ginger ice cream and very delicious. MGFD will see us again! ✅ Comfort Food ✅ Cocktails ✅ Friendly service ✅ Reservations recommended
Hands down the best brunch in Miami. I’ve been going here a long time for brunch lunch and dinner. I’m upset at myself for not having reviewed it earlier as every time we go it is 5 stars. While I love all their meals, there is no better place to brunch in Miami than Michael’s. The value price point is unbelievable for the quality of the food. Great for groups. Every item is delicious. Will continue going back and bringing friends every time they come visit Miami. It’s a must stop alongside Joe’s & Versailles. Thank you to Mr Schwarz and his team for elevating Miami’s food scene when they opened this gem back in 2006.
August 28, 2025 Yesterday, we had lunch at Michael's Genuine and it was absolutely wonderful! We all ordered from the Miami Spice menu, the food was beautifully presented and so creative/delicious ingredients blended together. Our waitress was Kristina and she was also terrific - attentive, friendly and professional. This Miami Spice menu is a wonderful way to get an introduction to this restaurant. I am looking forward to booking return visits with friends/family for a nice dinner and celebrations. Patricia Hayes
I have always loved this restaurant! Truly never had a bad meal but tonight I stopped by to try their Sunday burger special + the genuine burger! Every Sunday night each month they are going to introduce a new burger and for August it is the...JUICY LUCY. A patty stuffed with molten cheese hidden inside that is out of this world delicious. + the shrimp toast is a personal favorite I get it almost every time I go. It was actually my first time trying the mussels which is listed under the appetizers section and will definitely be ordering them again. I sometimes find street parking but there is a valet stand right outside the restaurant which is super convenient.
Brunch on Sundays! The breakfast pizza is incredible and so is the french toast! Avocado toast was bland but plated beautifully. Attentive staff kept us cool by constantly refilling our waters and adjusting the fans outside. They were knowledgeable about the menu and inquired about food allergies. The food came out hot and fast. This restaurant has an upscale neighborhood vibe, it’s vibrant and busy with tons of designer shops nearby. All the plates around us looked delicious. Definitely recommend! Don’t forget to make reservations.
Michael’s Genuine is a gem for lunch in Miami. The sunchokes were perfectly crispy and addictive, the tuna carpaccio was fresh and beautifully balanced, and the duck confit had a richness that felt like a hug for your taste buds. The pastrami steak was smoky and tender, while the burrata was creamy perfection. To top it off, the chocolate bread pudding was indulgent without being too sweet—a flawless finish. Every dish felt thoughtful and well-executed. Can’t wait to go back!
I was invited for brunch and we ordered oysters, the pate, Turkish eggs and crispy polenta to share. I confess that I am not an egg person so I was not at all excited about the menu. Michael's changed my view on eggs! Everything was delicious, specially the two dishes I thought at first I was not even going to taste (Turkish eggs and polenta). I am still craving them a week later. What a delight from start to finish - from each bite, to the extremely attentive service. Definitely a place to enjoy a carefree Sunday!
Michaels was one of my go to restaurants 15 years ago. I hadn't been since I moved back to Miami and was so happy it held up after all this time. The food and drinks were still great, the service was solid and the ambiance was great. We came for lunch and they were very welcoming to my 7 yr old son and newborn.
I had not been here in a while and decided to visit for their Miami Spice menu. The short rib panini and baked oysters were delicious, with a watermelon ginger drink that was refreshing. For dessert I had the banana upside down cake and espresso flan. I could taste the coffee flavor in the flan and it was good. It reminded me of why I wanted to come back.
Michael's Genuine in the Miami Design District is a fantastic spot. I loved the Design District. It’s very approachable with upscale food. We love a non stuffy spot. The hamachi, octopus, and fish sandwich showcased their excellent seafood, presenting dishes that were visually appealing. Since its inception in 2007, Michael's Genuine has epitomized Genuine Hospitality—a perfect fusion of delicious food and excellent service. The energy in the main dining room, emanating from the open kitchen is fantastic to watch. You can sit indoors, on the sun-speckled courtyard, or at the bar. Michael Schwartz's Genuine Hospitality Group, with its collection of award-winning restaurants, reflects the chef's culinary excellence and commitment to excellence, showing his status as a key figure in the South Florida restaurant scene.
We had the most delicious meal! We sat outside and the experience was amazing. The service was very good and our waitress (Liam) was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes & drinks, all of his recommendations were to our liking! The food was absolutely Amazing. Highly recommended!! We will be back again. Little tip for the dinner menu: order a few of the small and medium dishes to share!
Was in the Design District and need a place to have lunch and get out of the heat. Stopped in here. The servers/bartenders were awesome. They were super friendly and knew the right time to check in. I had the 3 course lunch special - shrimp, pasta and tart - the food was really well done. The pasta was fresh and cooked el dente to perfection. I really liked this spot.
Best Miami Design District staple! This restaurant, smack in the middle of all the action, has been there since the early days of the district and continues to impress with their consistently creative dishes, great service, and relaxed vibe. The staff is always great, and the bar is always a good place for a quick bite to take a break from shopping in the surrounding luxury boutiques! Valet parking right in front makes it all easier to get there as well.
Second time my wife and I go to Michael's and man they don't disappoint. I had the fried chicken and it was spectacular, my wife the fish, but the Octopus... oh the grilled Octopus had us dreaming about it for days. Staff is polite and knowledgeable when ordering drinks. Can't wait to go back.
We’ve been waiting for a long time to try this place! Oh boy, I so regret waiting that long. The outdoor/indoor vibe is fitting for Miami Design District. The food is beyond amazing! We started with the lamb and eggplant with zaatar pita, that was by far some of the best dishes I’ve had in my life, just divine! The tin sardines were very closed second to the lamb dish. We also had braised daikon, it was well put together dish for a vegetable. Then comes the burger, yes the famous burger! It was cooked to perfection and meat to bun ratio was just write. Ah I just can’t wait to be back and try all other dishes. Service was outstanding and very thoughtful. One suggestion: a must make reservations ahead of time, esp on the weekends. We were glad we booked ahead as I saw so many folks turned away. A must try in Miami Design District!
Best first date I've ever had. In their remodeling, they built small booths. The cushion side is a small semicircle for two. So you sit very close to each other. It makes all the difference in the world. Of course it helps when your date is lovely. The service was excellent and, of course, the food. It is pricey, but worth it.
I came for brunch in a group of 4 people. Brunch is tapas style with dishes ranging $6-12. We ordered 2 starters, 7 plates, and 1 dessert so it can get a bit pricey. That being said, the food was amazing. Everything was very tasty and no two dishes tasted the same. I highly recommend the kimchi benedict for savory, the peaches french toast for sweet, and the gin lavender drink. The restaurant's location and ambiance are both nice with a beautiful outdoor area as well.
Had the most amazing brunch! Nadia was very helpful and friendly since the moment we sat down. Had the scotch egg, chicken liver toast, pastrami hash, panuozzo, pumpkin bread pudding, bear claw and oysters. Everything was spectacular and the service was 10/10.
i had a great experience myself. went for a late lunch in the miami spice month, and they sat me despite it being last call. i sat on the bar and the girls there made the time amazing, great service and good chats. the food was good, the pesto casarecce was good, i couldn’t finish because of a big portion (i usually don’t leave any pasta left). and dulce de leche desert amazing too.
Will definitely visit again! The atmosphere, the food, the drinks, the service, everything was top notch! Sarah G. And Happy were both great, very helpful and polite. Everything we tried was packed with flavor and the prices were reasonable. We were a group of 4 and shared everything, best decision as I’m very happy I got to try all these different delicious plates. Personal favorites: onion pizza, duck confit, genuine burger, the short rib and from desserts I loved the espresso martini pavlova. Bonus point: dog friendly
After a quick peruse of the Michelin Guide during a late evening wander around Design District, I opted for Michael's. Superb. Casual but smart, institutional not stuffy, I sat outside and recieved a warm welcome from all as a solo diner. I chose the pork belly that was exceptionally well cooked; textured with bite yet not overdone with the right amount of crispy fat - all paired with a punchy swing of heat from the kimchi salad balanced well with nuts. A trio of textures. Second course was the 1/2 chicken so fresh, moist and skin perfectly salted that I imagined that it was born, reared and faced the furnace all in one afternoon - paired with heritage potatoes and a curious sauce that was familar yet abstractly innovative. Service swift and unintrusive - Reggie was an engagingly, knowledgeable stand out that gives the impression regulars visit just to see them.
No wonder Michael's gets good reviews. It's simply good all around. We enjoyed their Mother's Day brunch. It was full and busy, yet we were not rushed. The place was loud because it was full, but not uncomfortable. The service was great, among the best in Miami. My husband's brother ordered the lamb ribs. Our daughter had the pasta, requesting no spice ... there was spice. So those 2 switched and enjoyed. My husband and I had the steak tartare - truthfully, we've had better, but this was good. When we asked about the item left off of our order, apologies were profuse and we were offered a dessert - icing on the cake of a memorable Mother's Day. It's not often that Miami restaurants recogize mistakes - Michael's lives up to its reputation - thank you.
First time here.. Jake the bartender was super hospitable and great! He recommended great cocktails, oysters and informative on the plates. He made the experience memorable and a fan of Michael Genuine. The ambience of clean, comfortable and definitely will be my new local favorite. Thank you Jake for a great experience
Excellent cuisine, super flavors and excellent service. A well trained staff did not miss a beat. Very popular location. And the earned a Michelin bib recognition.
Exceptional Food and Service at Michael’s Genuine A friend and I recently enjoyed lunch at Michael’s Genuine, a spot we’ve both visited separately and have always appreciated for its great food and drinks. This time was no exception; our lunch was filled with delicious appetizers, salad, pizza, and chicken. We had leftovers, and our waiter placed our to-go bags on the ground by our outdoor two-person table. Unfortunately, within minutes, a distracted couple walking their leashed dog allowed it to stick its head into my bag, licking and eating my food. Shockingly, the couple neither apologized nor offered to replace what their dog had eaten. A waitress noticed what happened and quickly sent the manager over. Even though this incident wasn’t the restaurant’s fault, the manager replaced my food (appetizer and pizza) without hesitation and even treated us to coffee and dessert on the house. I tried to insist on paying for the coffee and dessert, but they wouldn’t hear of it. This experience revealed that at Michael’s Genuine it’s not just about great food and cocktails, it’s also a place where the staff is empowered to go above and beyond for their guests. The team’s quick, thoughtful response demonstrated exceptional management and a commitment to outstanding service. In a city where mediocre food and service can feel like the norm, Michael’s Genuine truly stands out. I’ll be making a point to bring friends and return often. Recommendations: Spicy Penny cocktail, chicken liver crostini, gem lettuce salad, pan-roasted Poulet Rouge 1/2 chicken, onion pizza, and MGFD cookies.
I had a fantastic experience at Michael’s Genuine tonight. This is one of our neighborhood, favorite places to have dinner. Our waitress, Sarah, was wonderful and attentive. The pork belly and oysters were phenomenal, and the burger was delicious. We also tried the kabocha squash and Brussels sprouts. The squash was a bit dry but well-seasoned, and the Brussels sprouts were better without the cheese and could be a bit crispier. We gave them feedback about these sides and they were very receptive. Overall, a great dining experience!
I had wanted to come here for years but was a little worried about the price. Yes, dinner will probably set you back $100/person with drinks (or far more), but the 16:00-19:00 happy hour is AWESOME! $5 craft beer and excellent craft cocktails for $9-10 (wine, too, but forgot the price, either $8 or $9), but the food sets it over the top. For $6, you can have a PILE of fried pork ears, which were easily the best I've had in the US...and probably the best period. Think a cross between bacon and chicharron, though more similar to the latter. I would come back for this alone, and we got two orders and almost a third. Other $6 tapas include kimchi (surprisingly good), chicken liver (excellent), shrimp toast (think fried bread+shrimp....how can it NOT be good?!), falafel (slightly salty but solid), and deviled eggs. Only the latter was sub-par and it's not so much that it was sub-par, but that I could make them myself (i.e. they weren't "elevated" like the other appetizers were). Damn those crispy pig ears. I'll be dreaming about them tonight. Great service and I was dressed like shit and drenched from the rain and no one batted an eye. That being said, most people were dressed nicely, and I DO think they have a dress code, so I did feel sort of bad looking so sloppy amongst all the beautiful people and would recommend wearing pants and a collared shirt (for men). The seafood- and meat-oriented dinner menu looks incredible but pricey. If I have a special occasion in the future, though, I would strongly consider this place.
Incredible food, service, and atmosphere. Everything we had was fresh and delicious. What more could I ask for? The menu is straightforward and I feel like it has something for everyone. I had the baked feta and the squash salad. Usually salads are a whatever kind of meal, but this one genuinely was so delicious and satisfying. A lot of delicious combos going on and great textures between both dishes! A great pick for a meal, right in the heart of the design district.
I like Miami’s design district. This restaurant is nicely located, pretty busy on a Sunday morning. Service is ok. We had lobster and a few small plates (omelet, salad, sandwich). The foods are all seasoned well and tasty. I like the omelet and salad. The lobster is not too fresh and it smells a little.
2/11/2026- we came back and had dinner. Obviously the service was phenomenal. Looks really good. They were busy we sat outdoor, but unfortunately, the food a little overpriced down wasn’t anything like what we did in regard like last time we were there I don’t know they changed the menu. The one dip was good I believe it was the smoked tuna with the fries not fries but potato chips and he was the first one was good so we ordered a second one and the second one came in completely tasted different than the first one maybe it’s your taste, bud changes but then we ordered the pate nothing to brag about and then the falafel like a joke for 30 bucks flopper .Truly, a wonderful place. This is our second time being here. Last time was before the remodel five years ago and has such a great atmosphere live music. Food is gorgeous and delicious.
We only had a couple of drinks but they were all absolutely phenomenal! We had literally just gotten off of a cruise ship filled with top tier food and drinks and these cocktails blew them out of the water. The bartender was extremely nice and lightning fast.
Great vibe, food is excellent. Waitstaff was friendly and helpful. I would say it is a little expensive for what it is in my opinion, but not that surprising given the location and some of the comparable restaurants nearby. Nevertheless, everything we ordered including food, cocktails and wine were all solid.
Located in the Miami design district, this restaurant had a nice outdoor seating area but inside was cozier, more romantic, and gorgeous decor. The vibe was enjoyable, not too loud, good music. Overall a great setting for date night or casual dinner with friends. Our server Sarah provided an excellent service experience. For drinks we each tried a different spritz, very refreshing. Our food was hamachi crudo, grilled octopus, roasted eggplant with lamb and pita (which we ordered TWICE!), and crispy skinned duck confit. Every plate was seasoned perfectly, cooked perfectly, overall executed perfectly. This is a strong recommend! We will be back.
I haven't returned after all the remodeling until a few days ago. The place looks fantastic. The food? NEVER DISAPPOINTS! That Black Truffle Pizza is absolutely delicious. Service at the bar? Excellent! UPDATE: After another visit, I stand by me review. NEVER DISAPPOINTS! The Truffle Pizza was even better this time and the Pork Belly? THE STAR!!! This time we also tried the Sticky Toffee Pudding with Ginger Ice Cream... DA BOMB! UPDATE II: Consistency is their language! Food and service remain spotless. UPDATE III: Finally had the Genuine Burger... FANTASTIC!
Michael’s Genuine is simply wonderful in every way. From its vibrant location in the heart of the Design District to the incredible food and top-notch service, this place never disappoints. We find ourselves coming here almost weekly, and it has truly become one of our favorite spots. The highlight of our visits is always sitting at the bar with Jake, the bartender. He is absolutely amazing—his energy, attentiveness, and warm personality add such a special touch to the entire experience. Jake’s exceptional service keeps us coming back time and time again. Whether you’re looking for a great meal, fantastic drinks, or an inviting atmosphere, Michael’s Genuine delivers it all. Highly recommend!
Phenomenal brunch and genuine service. We ordered 3 small plates to share, all very flavorful and unique. Croque madame was divine. Everybody working there was super friendly and helpful from the hostess who shifted around tables for us to the server who gave great recommendations and checked on us regularly, even though it was pretty busy. Outdoor seating completely covered from the rain with a nice breeze and pleasant ambiance. Valet is reasonable as well which was great since it was raining and my mom can’t walk too far.
Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink is about to hit a milestone that few restaurants in Miami’s ever-evolving culinary landscape achieve – turning 18 years old. In a city where dining spots often flare up and fade away faster than a summer thunderstorm, Michael’s has stood as a beacon of consistency and quality since its doors first opened in the Design District. To think Michael’s was one of our first episodes of Chat Chow back in 2011, when the Design District was still finding its footing as a destination. Even then, Chef Michael Schwartz was pioneering the farm-to-table movement, showing what was possible when a restaurant truly committed to showcasing Florida’s bounty. Nearly two decades in, the restaurant has stayed true to its roots, still sourcing locally as much as possible, maintaining relationships with farmers, fishermen, ranchers, and artisans that have become more like family than business associates. The latest chapter in Michael’s Genuine’s story brings us Renata Ferraro, formerly of Weird Doughs, who now helms the kitchen. Those familiar with her work know her innovative approach to baking and dough preparation, skills that are already influencing Michael’s program with dishes like Blue Crab Rosti with poached eggs and old bay hollandaise or the Spinach and Feta Bourekas. Also new to the team is Pastry Chef Marlena Bella, bringing new energy in the kitchen with desserts like Fruity Pebble Pancakes or her Blood Orange Meringue Donuts topped with Espresso Crema. It’s remarkable how many of the ideas Michael Schwartz was championing have become mainstream in Miami’s culinary consciousness. The emphasis on knowing where your food comes from, the celebration of simple preparations that let ingredients shine, the importance of a restaurant as a gathering place for the community – these were the foundations upon which Michael’s was built, and they remain just as relevant today as they were 18 years ago.
Our wine club had lunch at Michael's on Saturday and it was nothing short of excellent! Sebastian our server took care of us for our group of eight and the food was well coursed and very good...perfect lunch dishes to share family style! The wine list also is one of the best, very approachable for new wine lovers and several gems for experienced wine fans too. Highly recommend!
Had such a great dining experience! 💫 The vibe (+decor) is a little old-school, but that just adds to the charm. The food? Absolutely delicious (that cookie on the pic is LIFE- 맛있어요). The cocktails? Spot on. 🍸 The staff were super friendly and never rushed us, which made it the perfect place to just relax and enjoy the night. I’ll definitely be back — this spot is a true OG in the Miami Design District. Hard to believe it’s been around since 2007! 👏✨
Great lunch/brunch with friends. Friendly and welcoming. A little over priced but worth it. Food is little bland for my taste and some of the items were a bit salty for our taste. But it was packed and vibrant. Loved the atmosphere. Also the 1/2 chicken was not really half rather it was quarter 🤪
Good New American restaurant with great burgers, pizza, ice cream and cake! The service was nice and friendly overall. We could come back to try the drinks and some of the other desserts.

their cocktails were delicious. My favorite was fried pig ear. it's crispy without missing the gelatin texture. we even ordered the second time. chicken crostini was not gammy. in fact, i wish it was more liver foward. devil eggs were underwhelming. I also can't tell the flavor of chickpeas in the falafel.
Busy design district restaurant serving mainly American style dishes (but elevated!) makes this gem a "can't miss spot"! If you are lucky, grab an outdoor table-great people watching in Miami's upscale shopping district. Steaks, fish, pizza, pasta and chicken dishes with an upscale flair to go with the surrounding environment. My favorite pastrami sandwich in Miami. There will be subsequent return visits!!
Went for brunch and everything was delicious had Burrata ask for the homemade chips on the side, yellowtail tuna was fresh, crispy polenta was perfect, prawns and chicken biscuit with honey butter very good. I appreciated that they made us fresh natural lemonades! We sat outside it was nice peaceful vs inside was a bit busy and loud. Overall food was delish, will return.
Went there for lunch with a friend, first time back after the remodel. I had visited before but never was quite wowed with the restaurant, but must say this time it really improved my impresion of it. The renovation looks really nice, kudos to the interior designer. Service was amazing, our server was very kind and funny, and had awesome recommendations. I got the wood fired octopus which was very small but incredibly tasty. Had the french fries on the side, which were OK. My friend had the pan roasted Poulet 1/2 chicken, I had a taste of it and must say it was amazing. Perfectly crunchy and a good size entree. On my next visit I will definitely get this plate for myself. Recommend this place for a nice girls lunch or business meal as it has a relaxed but upscale vibe.
We came for Brunch on a Sunday. Lots of very young kids. Love the Fried Hominy and Marinated Olives Appetizers. Two of us had the Apple and Fennel Salad. Mom had the Chicken Salad on a Croissant. All of the food was delicious. The salad and Chicken Salad were spectacular. The Fluffernutter Dessert was Amazing. Service was very good. Prices seem absurd for most items, but I don't live in Miami. We'll come again.

The food was very good with quality ingredients that were well prepared. However, my experience was somewhat marred by the hostess who didn't seem to be the most welcoming to me and my party. Perhaps it was because we're not locals or regulars, but we didn't feel like she genuinely cared about what we had to say or actually bothered to listen to us. I think the front of the restaurant is incredibly important in setting the tone for the entire dining experience and they seemed to get someone who is not the right person for a genuinely great experience. All I can say is that I genuinely hope they do better with the front of the house in the future.
The restaurant was gorgeous and the food was very delicious. The drinks were good too! I got the “Literally good” drink, roasted Turkey Sandwich, and the wood roasted feta. My server was so kind and friendly, but I was placed next to the server stand which was a little close for me. I did ask for no bacon on the sandwich, but they forgot. It was still yummy though! I just picked it off. Overall very delicious! It was all delicious.
I had high hopes for this spot given its great reviews on open table. Ordered a duck confit ($32) and a glass of Gewürztraminer ($17). The food and wine tasted good but for the price and the hype - it did not wow. The duck came w some lentils, kumquat and frisée which was tasty but very sparse. There were no other sides leaving the plating looking a bit awkward. The service was fine but not particularly warm. The hostess was a bit standoffish and presumptuous. Definitely more of a sceney vibe and seems it is more suited to fun drinks and hangouts w friends.
I went for a brunch, never again. I have been before here for dinner and is good. Brunch was too expensive for the quality and quantity of food. I had one dish (the one with a fried egg on top) for $34! That dish should cost no more than $15 (it shouldn't be on the menu), too basic for that price. I don't think I would come back again.
We went to Michael's Genuine for brunch. Honestly, considering it's a Michelin star restaurant, we were disappointed. Most of the food was okay. Just okay. The prices were too high for what you got. I got pig's ears and octopus tacos. The ears were burnt, and regular pork rinds would taste just as good and cost much less. The tacos tasted like tacos. The octopus was lost in the spices. My wife's quiche was burnt on the bottom, and the rest was flavorless. Also, they got our reservation wrong and since they were busy, they literally ran us out almost as soon as we were done. I won't be going back any time soon.
There was really nothing special about this restaurant in terms of get-out of this world food. Starting with the tuna carpaccio, which was cut very thick and served over soggy ginger noodles. We ordered the fish special and a ceviche. The fish was underwhelming and the ceviche extremely tart. It didn't come with any accompaniments, so eating it with a fork by itself was hard. The best thing was dessert. Service was also very slow.
If you like to overpay for a little bit of a good food Michaels’s genuinely expensive restaurant is for you. We were 4 people, celebrating mom’s birthday, had 3 cocktails in total, 3 appetizers and 4 entrees and we paid about $400. Everything including the entrees are very small portions and unsatisfying if you’re coming very hungry. Ambiance was nice, street cafe vibes, causal but with fine dining prices. It didn’t make sense to us. They opened up the glass enclosures so although we were dining inside we had a lot of flies accompanying our food. Chicken liver appetizer was good, it could use a little more generous chicken liver on the bread and it’s only 3 slices. Crispy pork belly appetizer was ok, little heavy and on the sweeter side. $24 Leeks carbonara appetizer was good, we asked for some bread and dipped in it. again very small portion that kinda shocked us $21 2 people ordered 1/2 chicken was also really small plate with no sides. $39 chicken was perfectly cooked. Most expensive of a chicken we’ve ever had. Grouper with turmeric-coconut broth sounded iffy and artsy fartsy but it tasted good, we actually dipped some bread in its sauce. $42 You need to ask for bread because they don’t bring anything without asking. It was sourdough and it was good. Giant prawns were the biggest disappointment for $58. There was nothing giant about it except the inedible head. The reduction sauce was ok, a little on the heavy side. The heads lost its fat because they dissolved into the sauce :( also they should put at least two more prawns here, nobody will be filled with 3 shrimps. It comes with a little unseasoned arugula. Funny for an entree. Side dish potatoes sucked, no flavor, we put lots of salt on it and everyone was still hungry after this dinner. Although we liked the taste of some of the food, it’s way too expensive for what it is and the portions are way too small even with that astronomical price. Yet it’s a basic cafe/bistro. They also never acknowledged mom’s birthday. We were so dissapointed and went to another place for dessert.
I am a regular here at this point out of convenience but I have to say the food is good on a good day but there is serious inconsistency issues with both the food and service. I typically order 2 or 3 dishes and a drink when I go. And it feels like every other trip there is a problem with something. Everythjng from forgotten orders (don’t BS me and tell me they just finished everytime you go in and magically emerge with my food instantly) to medium rare steaks that are grey all the way through. There is just something wrong way too often. Maybe it’s just too busy and too tourist oriented to be consistently good.
We visited Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink with high expectations due to its location and reputation, but the overall experience was mixed. We ordered two kids’ Margherita pizzas, a burger, a roasted turkey sandwich, and a salad. The pizzas tasted good overall; however, one of them was unfortunately heavily burnt, with the crust and cheese being very black. The burger was excellent, and the salad was also very good. The roasted turkey sandwich was average at best. It felt like it followed the principle of “more is better,” but in this case, less would have resulted in a more balanced and flavorful dish. Service was only mediocre and did not match the standard one would expect at this price point and location. The wine we ordered took far too long to arrive, which is not acceptable given the overall pricing. In summary, despite the great location and some good dishes, the restaurant does not stand out enough to justify a recommendation.
I was genuinely disappointed with my experience here, mainly due to the service. We waited 52 minutes for our main courses after placing the order, which is simply excessive by any standard, especially for a restaurant associated with the Michelin Guide. What made the situation worse was the response from a member of the service staff when we politely asked about the delay. The employee reacted in an ironic and unpleasant way, almost shouting, with a very aggressive tone, telling us that we hadn’t been waiting that long. That is not an acceptable way to speak to customers. A simple, professional response like “we’re working on your order and it will be out shortly” would have been more than enough. As for the food: it’s not bad, but it’s also nothing memorable. Overcooked steak when ordered Medium and Soggy fries. For a place with this reputation, expectations are naturally higher, and unfortunately, the overall experience does not live up to them. Between the long wait, the poor attitude from staff, and food that doesn’t justify the hype, this visit was a miss for me. I expected much better.

We went for lunch and ordered an appetizer and two entrees. Due to it being closer to the end of lunch, I wasn’t able to order what I originally wanted because they only had one available. We had the crispy pork belly as an appetizer. It was really flavorful and the kimchi had just the right hint of heat. My friend ordered the wild mushroom panini w/ a small salad (this is what I originally wanted) and I settled for the house smoked bacon cheddar burger w/ fries. The wild mushroom panini was huge and she said it was delicious. She was able to take half of it home for dinner. My house smoked bacon cheddar burger was extremely greasy. It had two nice sized strips of bacon but the burger’s flavor wasn’t anything to brag about especially for the price. The overall ambience of the outdoor seating was very comfortable and pleasant to eat in.
We are visiting Miami and decided to go with our family. We were a party of 14 two of those were kids. We arrived at 7:30 and didn’t eat until 9:30 it was insane. I ordered the 1/2 heritage chicken and although very succulent I couldn’t eat it. It was so salty and my green beans were hardly cooked. My kids burger was also extremely salty. Then somehow our server left and didn’t finish the evening with us as it was 10:00pm by the time we left. We ended the night with a rather rude gentleman who was telling us we could only spit the check up to four ways. We didn’t want individual checks we just wanted the men to pay we had five men at the table. My family who live there probably won’t be back and I sure as hell won’t.
I've been a patron of this restaurant for years, but my experience tonight was one of the worst I've ever had. While I recognize the challenges of the current economy, offering an appetizer inside a can of sardines paired with fried saltines from a box and some mustard is simply unacceptable. It feels like a total rip-off. This is far from the hallmark of good cuisine. The food quality has significantly declined, and the prices are exorbitantly high. It used to be a great dining destination five years ago, but now, this place has lost its charm. To top it off, he adds a 2% fee (Rethink Contribution) which is ridiculous and unacceptable. It's not an option, it added to the bill. He should Rethink on his cuisine!! Lastly, bathrooms stink so bad; I cannot imagine how the kitchen cleanses looks and smells!
It was a hard experience for us first it took like 10 mins for the server to show up and we were surprised with the attitude he came in with we were trying to get a good impression as first time customers but i was not surprised in a good way we where treated as if we where not welcomed at all! I ordered a Arnold palmer and when i got it it was the sourest drink in this world i mean i understand it has lemonade and that but no it was straight lemon juice for like the whole cup w splash of tea. I was like okay we got some chips that the ones we received were burnt and they were not the best. I was not happy with these. We talked to the manager about it and after like 6 mins she finally came and i explained the situation i was like um this and this and that she did accommodate us a little better but i put our food order through her and i asked no peppers in my ceviche because I’m allergic to them and she literally didnt care or maybe forgot about it but i got my ceviche with a lottttttt of peppers. I would say coming back to check on the table and like asking us if we were having a better experience would have made the situation better. I will not be coming back here
We went on a Thursday and was told oyster is $1. It’s also listed the menu. Instead they charged me $54 for a dozen. Feel so cheated! How can I get my refund? I am still trying to reach out. Also the short rib was soooo dry and tasteless. When mentioned that to the restaurant, the response was the kitchen will try to improve in the future. So how’s that helping us? Most place would usually re-cook it or take it off the bill. Where is the “Genuine” ?? HUGE disappointed!
