Fabulous breakfast bagels! We were in NYC four mornings and got breakfast there twice. I wish this place was near me here in MI! The service was quick and the coffee and hot chocolate were superb! We took our food and ate in the Elizabeth Street Garden park. It was wonderful!

10/10 — Black Seed Bagels was exactly the fuel I needed to survive (and thrive) through a night in Times Square. The bagel? Flawless. The vibe? Immaculate. If you’re planning to conquer the city that never sleeps, make sure you carb-load at Black Seed first. Your future self will thank you. 🧡🤣

Deliciously satisfying bagel spot to visit with my three girl friends. We had a nice chat at our patio table outside and were pleasantly surprised with the quantity and quality of each bagel. What we ordered: Classic Salmon, Salmon 2.0, Ham, Cheese Egg & BLT. The atmosphere is casual, many customers picked up and left. This place has limited seating with slight incline of stairs and a slight decline into the patio for accessibility information reasons. Easy walk for those staying in the SOHO area - would recommend and visit again!

The photos should do this place justice! Bagels were absolutely stuffed with great quality tasting ingredients. Really busy on a weekday morning which can only be a good sign and they got through the orders promptly. Bagels were toasted and crunchy but so soft and chewy and my only real regret was not visiting this place again whilst we were in New York. We had the Salmon Classic and Pastrami Reuben. The pastrami was our fave but would have struggled to eat a whole one by myself as very rich.

This place is a fantastic bagel shop! 🥯 Black Seed Bagels serves delicious 🤤 fresh bagels and spreads - definitely get their Sesame Bagel with Scallion 🥬 Cream 🥛 Cheese 🧀 Spread! The staff 👨‍🍳 is friendly and welcoming, service is quick ⏲️, and the place has indoor and outdoor seating!🪑 I wish I knew about this place sooner!

5/10/2023, Wed: I tried most of the varieties of the bagels from Black Seed Bagels on Elizabeth St just south of Spring St in NYC. I particularly liked the pumpernickel everything which seemed lower in salt and more whole grain than the others, though I didn't try the multigrain and multi-everything. I like that the bagels use a natural starter type sourdough baking method. All of the bagels and the scallion cream cheese were very good, even after taking them home in my own stainless steel container later in the afternoon.

We ordered the classic bagel with smoked salmon. It was absolutely delicious. We came based on a recommendation and were not disappointed. The bagel was warm and fresh, and the salmon was high-quality and full of flavor. Highly recommended experience!

Amazing bagels!!!! Highly recommend the Classic salmon and turkey avocado, both with the everything bagel 🥯 Coffee was ok, nothing to shout about Tried their cookies as well which were surprisingly good!! Soft on the inside but still a little crispy on the outside and the right touch of sweetness, all for only $3.5 each

Supposedly these are “Montreal” style bagels. Not sure what that means, but I thought the bagel was delicious. It was certainly better than some of the more well known “NY” style spots that I’ve been too. Light and fluffy with a decent crust and toppings on my everything bagel. The cream cheese was good and ample portion. The dough tasted fresh and delicious.

Go here. Stop reading and just go, it's worth it. Bagels here are PHENOMENAL. Eat outside under the awning, eat inside under the roof, they don't care; just eat these bagels from Black Seed. Happened to wander in one morning, have ended up there every single day since. Here, try a Plain Jane. Or you, that Miami Vice will knock you over it's so good. Or you can sit here and read reviews as if you don't already have your morning planned out for you: go to here now.

This is my go to bagel spot in the city. Bagels are fire except they have messed up my order many times (wrong type of bagel, wrong type of cream cheese, put in capers even though I requested no capers) so maybe just mediocre staff. But this doesn’t happen too often so it’s okay. Pricey but it’s NY I guess.

First of all, the young man who took my order was the nicest, most attentive person who has EVER taken my order anywhere! I could’ve talked with him for hours. Second, I really like my bagels burnt and when I explained that, that’s just what I got! Delicious double toasted everything bagel with cream cheese. Soooo good. The location is perfectly located as well.

This was. Incredible. I got the Almond Butter and Jelly Bagel ($3.75) even though I was skeptical but it was absolutely excellent. It’s a cute shop, and if you show up around 3 or so, when they start getting rid of their morning bagels, they might give you some for free. (I bought three, and they gave me ten!)

If you’re looking for a NY Bagel Experience, go here!! I got their Classic 2.0 on a Multi-Everything bagel and was totally delighted by their pastrami salmon 👌🏼 I didn’t catch her name, but the young woman working the register was so sweet and made my day. My first time at Black Seed Bagels but definitely won’t be my last! 🥯

NY bagels always hit spot, and Black Seed Bagels did not let me down. It's $14 for a bagel sandwich with cream cheese. I got the BEC (bacon, egg, cheddar) + plain cream cheese. Excellent texture, the bagel was warm, the sandwich was fresh, and it was prepared quickly. Yum.

L

Montreal style bagels cooked in wood fire oven. Not your typical NY bagel but certainly good. The smears are too notch. We had the scallion and bacon/jalapeno. Very flavorful and recommend both! The bagels start at $1.50 and cost goes up based on smear or if you get a sandwhich with bacon and eggs, etc.

N
Nicole B Garcia

The staff was really helpful and patient with me. Order was ready quickly. I would come back just for the guys working behind the counter. The vegan buffalo Sandwich reminded me of a (way better version of) Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich. So if you like that, you'll Love this - even if you're not vegan.

There are so many good bagel places in NYC, but this is one of my favorites. We usually get The Boca with avocado, tomato, egg and cheese and their signature Tobiko bagel sandwich with smoked salmon, tobiko cream cheese and butter lettuce. They also have monthly bagel collaborations with other restaurants like Gramercy Tavern and New Orleans’ Turkey and the Wolf. We’ve tried a few of their bagel collab of the month and they’ve all been amazing so it’s sad that they’re gone forever once that month is over, but it keeps you excited for what’s to come next.

they were out of everything bagels, so i bought a whole bag of mixed/everything. they were SO nice when i asked them to make me a bacon, egg and cheese using one of the everything from the bag. yaya was amazing, so patient, understanding and kind when i asked her to use one from the bag. they were visibly busy and, yet, my sandwich came out in about 2 minutes. shout out to yaya for being the real one.

Wow! All I have to say is WOW. I have not had a great gluten free bagel in years, and today I found one. Highly recommend the gf everything bagel w lox & dill cream cheese (could use a smidge more dill but that's just a preference). Small, outside dining space. No inside dining. Benches for sitting inside though. No bathrooms visible. Salmon bagel sandwich was devoured by my husband as well. Service was cheerful, which was a welcome in this city 😂

Swung in here for a bagel on my first day in the city. Got a BOCA from the menu which has eggs, cheese, avocado and tomato in it. Absolutely massive so filled me up and kept me full for hours. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of ingredients and portion size. Will definitely be returning to try more across the menu!

These are not your typical New York bagel, these are Montreal style bagels. They are boiled in honey water then cooked in a woodfire oven. I do not think they need anything on them, they are delicious plain, though the sandwiches they make with these are on another level. I traveled from Harlem to get these for my family and would again. Love these bagels and would strongly recommend them to everyone.

Incredible food. Staff is friendly and responsive. I always order for pickup, so go to the front by the glass box where they keep all the baked goods on display. There might be a big line depending on the time so that's why I always order ahead. My favorite bagel, the BEC, is a little pricey at $13 including the tip, but that bagel is enough to get me through the entire work day until I leave around 7pm. Solid place, would recommend

B
Brian Robinson

Even on a weekday morning, the place was buzzing with energy — always a promising sign that the food is worth it. Despite the crowd, the staff moved through orders efficiently, keeping everything running smoothly without making anyone feel rushed. The bagels were a true highlight: perfectly toasted so the exterior had a satisfying crunch, yet still soft and delightfully chewy on the inside. Every bite struck that ideal balance between texture and flavor, making it instantly addictive. If there’s one thing I wish I had done differently, it’s coming back sooner. Being in New York and passing up a spot like this would have been a missed opportunity. From the bustling atmosphere to the impeccable bagels, it’s exactly the kind of place you want to return to — again and again.

Met some family here for bagels for the first time. Pleasantly surprised! Had the Boca (egg, cheddar, avocado, tomato) on a multigrain everything bagel. Very delicious. Not a long wait for the bagels. Has both indoor and outdoor seating. Average price for a bagel sandwich was about $8. Will definitely come back next time I’m in the area🥯🤎

Solid, above average bagel joint that I would return to just because of the food. The interior is average, and could benefit from a very small investment to make it cozier. But I acknowledge that it’s a quick bites eatery with busy people going in and out, so I’m glad they put their energy in to the food rather than the ambiance. I got the salmon classic. Generous filling, but the cream cheese was ever so slightly too salty for my taste. I prefer it a tiny bit more on the tangy side. But I’m aware that I’m a bit more sensitive to salt.

A

I love the variety of bagels and filling, all fresh healthy options. Although it wasn't clear if the salmon is wild caught in the USA (important in my opinion) I love that the fish is smoked locally in Brooklyn. My sandwich, The Boca, was delicious and the small grapefruit juice was just right.

I had a Salmon Classic and thought it tasted just as good as a similar and identically priced bagel I rated 5 stars from another popular bagel spot, the reason I'm leaving 4 stars here is this bagel was smaller.

Great bagels and coffee. Super friendly…a little disjointed from the online ordering experience. It slowed things down. But it also filled me up and super delish 😋

Montreal-style bagels served fresh out of the oven is the name of game at Black Seed. I'm usually a guy who likes my bagels toasted, but if you can get your bagel fresh out of the stove, why not just eat it in it's chewy, steamy glory? I keep it simple here. I'm talking a bagel with scallion cream cheese. If you go into sandwich territory, you'll be climbing into bougie prices (> $10) and be waiting in a long line for it. The cool thing is you can see everything being made and rolled in the open kitchen with the wood-fired oven taking center stage.

Yummalicious bagel (that commanded a queue early morning)! The bagel was soft, not dense, chewy (in a very good way) and a nice colour to it. Supplement with crispy bacon and eggs and give it to me everyday. 😊

One of the few places near me that offers gluten free bagels with vegan option cream cheese. The staff were quick with orders and the attitude was at NYC pace. People were in there grinding. Feels a little rushed and tense. Otherwise the place has a few seats and is good to grab a quick bite.

A
Allan Caballero

Order your bagel and leave the place to eat it... The place has bad ventilation /exhaust and thus you come out smelling like a bagel as well. The bagel size wise was good... I had smoke salmon on scallion cream cheese on toasted multi everything. I also had the cold brew... It was a little acidic but the bagel was great to keep me happy for the morning. The place does not have a bathroom in case you need to go for #1 or #2.. in case you do have to use the bathroom, order your bagel and then walk to Joe and the juice a few hundred meters a way to order your drinks so you can use the bathroom

Do not get me wrong, I order a bagel from here every week. I really like them. But my bagel is almost always burnt and there's always a piece of something else in my bagels. It can be a Plain bagel with cc and you find a random caper or a little piece of lettuce. I wish they were more consistent because I really love their bagels when they are not burnt or cross contaminated.

To celebrate Lunar New Year, Black Seed Bagels launched a Feb special "baogel" in collab with Potluck Club. Overall, it was an interesting collab. As a self-claimed bagel ambassador I was glad I did try them out. The baogels were not bad but very mid. As usual, their bagels never blew my mind. We would just stick to Chinese bakeries for cheaper price or maybe even better taste. * Everything Baogel The baogel was lighter and puffier than a bagel. They heated up the bao for us so the steam literally rushed out when we pulled the bread. The char siu wasn't what we expected from a char siu bao, and looked totally different from the juicy caramelized brown fillings they showed on their ig. It was more like a regular cooked pork belly bun. I also wish there were more everything seasonings. * Sweet Bolo Baogel It was underwhelming......It tasted nothing like bolo bao, which rather reminded us of Mexican Bao (墨西哥包), which is a close cousin of pineapple bun but with a thinner and moister crust lol. Felt like we've gotten a bad batch because I saw the top of the bolo baogels online looked craggy, while ours was soggy... It was def not the pastry quality I expected from Potluck Club team as I've seen so many beautiful pictures of their bolo French toast.

Under-toasted chain of bagels. Egg tasted pretty artificial. Multigrain was a good idea of a flavour though, I don’t see that all the time. Felt very prepackaged and pre-processed. $10-15for sandwiches.

As a native New Yorker, I grew up eating bagels. Black seed is good, but they have been skimping on the fillings every time I go. It’s overpriced for how much you get. I even paid for extra cream cheese, and it’s less than the normal serving I get at other shops. Will not be coming back

Good bagel but I have had better. Friendly staff.

I would come here for the coffee more so than the bagel. In a pinch and because of proximity this will do. I wasn't a fan of the under-flavored everything bagel, and over doused cream cheese. Again, the coffee was exceptional and mostly the reason I would return.

Unfortunately, I felt as I was a little jipped on the amount of food put on my bagel for the price I paid. It’s already bad enough that I have to pay almost double for a gluten free bagel but sucks even more to hardly have any food on said bagel. I’ve gone to other locations and this was not my experience. Not sure I can justify paying $20 for a bagel at this location.

Food is okay, service feels like a mega-machine like McDonald's (you get a number, employee repeats the same three questions to everyone about their coffee order rote, etc.) All while a very moldy A/C unit does its best to share the wealth with everyone in the room O.o

Bagels were not special.. not super flavorful or crackly crusted or airy. And scallion cream cheese wasn’t very tasty or scalliony. I do appreciate that they have multigrain and vegan options. Also I ordered a drip coffee for nearly $5 which was served luke warm, nearly cold. But everyone who worked here was nice! and there was no line and service was pretty fast.

Finally decided to try Black Seed Bagels and personally I don't see the hype and way overpriced. I ordered BEC and everything bagel w/ cream cheese. The cream cheese spread was very light, it could've been a lot more. For $6, there should be more cream cheese. The BEC was decent, not sure about the price tag.

I got the brick lane and I couldn’t finish my bagel because there was so much Dijon on it. Other bagels look good and the staff is friendly.

I normally love black seed bagel, but I rarely get the toasted. Stopped in and got a bagel sandwich unfortunately it was a little too crispy (sesame bagel) and completely took away from the taste. Otherwise it’s a fairly reliable bagel place.

Think this place has been overhyped. I found the bagels decent though not amazing for NYC. A little on the small side and the BOCA was lacking seasoning.

I came here with my sister and when we first walked in the atmosphere is very nice. I love the decor and it was pretty clean. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon. The bagel was ok, plain cc ok, smoked salmon was amazing though. My sister ordered a salt bagel with tofu scallion cc. The cc was thin and dripped everywhere. It was like runny goop. Tasted terrible. The bagel was thin and doughy, not something you want in a bagel. Overall, the store was very nice inside and smoked salmon is amazing, but don’t get the vegan options for cc.

Okay okay, not great. Small place, but I expected more from the bagel itself. I would much rather suggest Apollo or Bagel Pub.

I was the only customer ordering in the shop this morning. Got the "Plain Jane" and as pictured, it was full of PEPPER!!!! The menu does not list this ingredient or I would have requested for it not to be used. There was also hardly an egg and I couldn't taste the cheese either. May b/c all I could get was the damn pepper??? For $6 this was totally not worth it! The staff was nice and that's the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars...

Please don’t be lured by the promise of gluten free bagels- they are terrible ! They must have changed their recipe or supplier because in the past, black seed’s gf bagels were much more convincing as real bagels. The new ones are dry and crumbly with no resemblance to a real bagel aside from looks. I can’t believe I was hosed of $18 for a sandwich that tasted so awful! Please bring back your old gf recipe, Black Seed.

I came in two days because I remember the bagels being pretty good. First day was great. 2nd day, they got my order wrong, which I noticed on the label when they handed me my bagel. When I asked about it, they started arguing with me. I'm not going to fight over a bagel order, so I just left with what they gave me. Bagels are solid but customer experience was not great.

Bagels have good chewiness but are burned. This isn’t only cosmetic; it’s noticeable in the flavor. Cream cheese is weirdly gluey, and undersalted, with the veggie and scallion options both being nearly flavorless. I guess it’s just as well they underfilled my supposedly eight-ounce containers. This is probably six ounces each but it’s terrible. I don’t think we’ll finish them. No joke, Bruegger’s cream cheese is better. And what did they do with their container lids?!? I’ll go to Russ and Daughters next time I’m in the area. It would’ve been well worth the longer walk from the Sohotel, though I was footsore at the time.

As a place that specializes in bagels, they should not be running out of plain and poppy seed bagels at 9:15am on a Saturday morning! And the bagels we did receive in our to-go order were burnt - terrible quality control!

All the reviews said that Black Seed Bagels would be amazing. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to the hype. They got our orders wrong and the bagels left a lot to be wanted. Glad I checked it out but don’t think i’ll be returning.

Bagel was burnt, doughy with no flavor. Tofu Scallion CC was thin with no flavor. It also took 15 min to get my bagel despite there being no line. Only pro is the ambience inside is nice.

Absolutely disgusting. Ordered through Uber Eats- driver did terrible in the sense that my coffee was spilled everywhere. Trying to make light of situation I attempted to eat the bagel only to open it and find a long disgusting hair in my bagel. Where is the standard of cleanliness. This is absolutely unacceptable. When I called the restaurant all she had to say was call Uber Eats we can’t help you. Not even taking accountability for the hair found in the food from an employee.

They charged me twice (on my credit card and also my Inkind pass). I went back and talked to them, and also E-mailed them, but I never got my money back. In addition, one of the bagels was totally burned.

Dismissive, rude and uninterested staff. Visited twice, got the same experience with the staff even though it was a different member. Got given wrong order, asked for scallion spread - got given meat egg and cheese

I have been coming to black seed bagels since the beginning at their first store on Elizabeth.. They fave me wrong order, and stale bagels! The bagels used to be really good here! I was obsessed with these bagels. Now the store has expanded and their bagels are mass produced and terrible. I ordered 12 bagels, rye, everything & sesame. I got mostly white bagels a few oat , 1 rye, 2 everything…😳that tasted like store bought grocery prepackaged bagels, really bad!! whatever else they tried to give me were not edible and the dough/taste was despicably bad! They literally tasted a week old! I will return here ever again !! Not the same place that used to wood fire delicious hot bagels, these did not even taste like wood fire, let alone taste like a proper NY bagel when they first started this company! Too many other great bagel places in NY. This was my last stop here!! Very SAD!!

Very rude workers. If you work customer service you should aim to be nice. If you guys don’t want to work there, find a different profession.

This place is an absolute tourist trap—stay away. I live right down the street and walk by all the time. I finally decided to try it this morning because the branding always caught my eye. I ordered the Boca sandwich on an everything bagel, and it was honestly the worst sandwich I’ve ever had. The coffee also tasted extremely burnt. Overall, this is a very low-integrity establishment. I wouldn’t recommend it.
