Excellent food and great service in a fun spot in Whitefish Bay. Loved the various choices especially the appetizers and chicken picatta but the dessert was the best great options including Simma’s cheesecake.
I moved to Whitefish Bay two years ago. This is a great place for patio lunches and night caps. The salmon is amazing and the burger is great too. Staff is friendly, consistent, and always know your name. I go in dressed up, tshirts and jeans during happy hour, and sneak “as is” during Last Call, and I’m never out of place. The crowd is always wonderful.
I recently had the pleasure of an unexpected visit to a charming restaurant that left me feeling delighted. The warm communication between the staff and guests created a sense of community, while the delicious food and amazing atmosphere made for a truly memorable experience. I can't wait to visit again!
We had an amazing experience dining at Moxie! It was a busy evening so we chose to sit at the bar. The bartender, Joe, was so friendly and fun to watch. He was hard at work making delicious drinks! The scallop shrimp scampi was amazing as well as the tomahawk pork chop. They have a great selection of wines and craft cocktails. This spicy mocktail, was delicious! We can’t wait to go back and try some of their other menu items!
Food and service was wonderful. I made a reservation the previous day for high top seating, which was the only thing available, but upon arrival was offered a lovely outdoor seating option which we took!
Such a lovely place with nice outdoor section. Food is delicious and a little bit pricy
Great atmosphere, outstanding food, drinks, and service. Filet was a perfect medium rare!
One of the best dinners I have had! The lemon blueberry cake is the best cake in the world. Great service and atmosphere.
Brandied chicken liver pate and the mahi mahi with risotto and mushrooms and peppers. Both very delicious.
Wait staff was attentive food and drinks were very good. Lots of delicious choices on the brunch menu
It was our first time at Moxie and we will definitely be back. Our waitress Theresa was so good and all the food and drinks were delicious. My wife is now expecting their blueberry lemon cake for her birthday! The only gripes I have is it seemed like it took a long time to get our food and the $16 spicy shrimp appetizer seemed a little expensive for only getting 5 shrimp and toast.
The food was good (shrimp and scallop scampi), tastes like it was freshly prepared with fresh ingredients. Drinks were good and the ambiance makes this restaurant a great place to visit. If you go on a warm day/night the patio was another option.
Came here on my own on night, called ahead and spoke to Susie, the hostess, who was absolutely wonderful and so welcoming! I had drinks and a fantastic meal at the bar, and even met the owner Anne Marie, who was so lovely. Everyone made my time here so fantastic, and the food was top-notch. I can't wait to come back!
This was our first time dining and won't be our last. The Cajun shrimp Benedict, the bloody Mary, the service and the owner where all outstanding. Our whole way home we where talking about when we would like to try their dinner menu. We will definitely be back to try more flavorful dishes. But if you haven't tried their brunch, you need to!
We ate outside on the patio. It was delightful. Service was fantastic and table setup was beautiful. Felt lux, butttt not over the top. Dogs welcome on the patio! Husband had a delicious burger, I had pasta carbonara and Mom had classic casaer with chicken. Everything was delightful! Recommend this location. Will go back!
My husband and I had a wonderful New Year’s Eve dinner at Moxie’s. I had the butternut squash ravioli and my husband had salmon. Both meals were excellent! Our server, Michael, was very pleasant and attentive. We will be back!
Seriously, one of the best restaurants that I’ve been to in a long time you definitely have to check this out for sure. Their drinks and food is outstanding. I’ll definitely be going back 10 to 100 more times.
nice atmosphere, don't think I'd bring the kids though. lovely bar, clean large bathroom. had scallops which were very good. my last visit was the salmon with a basil pesto "sauce". especially good. spent more money than usual, but sometimes one does that to enjoy dinner in a contemporary, upscale restaurant.
Always great food, great cocktails, and great service! On our last visit, a woman who appeared to be experiencing some economic difficulty entered and was greeted warmly. I asked our server to offer her a meal at my expense. Shortly thereafter, the manager/host informed us that they cook her a meal whenever she stops in, and I was not charged. Knowing that, I will increase the frequency of my visits. Well done Moxi!
Food was lovely, patio is open but we decided to sit indoors. A little loud due to the smaller interior. Great service, food was very good and HOT. Gluten free options were surprisingly delish!
I sat at the bar with my Mom for a Wednesday evening dinner and it was surprisingly busy! Always a good sign in my opinion. The shrimp appetizer was amazing, salads were perfect size and had a good amount of dressing. I had the salmon entree which I could reccomend to anyone. Specials were creative and the staff did a great job explaining everything and answering our questions. I highly reccomend MOXIE Food + Drink!
We arrived at 4pm on a Saturday and by 5pm the restaurant was starting to fill - recommend reservations. The food and the service were excellent. Daniel was our server - he was prompt, courteous, friendly, and informative. We ordered two apps - roasted asparagus and spicy shrimp. For our entrees, we had the 8oz filet and salmon with a skewer of shrimp and scallop. All the food was very good and served promptly and hot. For dessert we shared a slice of the house special lemon cake, which was fantastic as well. This was our first visit to Moxie and we’ll definitely be back - next time with friends!
We're so happy that Moxie has reopened. It's one of our favorite restaurants in town. It reopened with some of the same wonderful staff members and a great new chef, who brought some nice updates to the menu. We just celebrated a family dinner there. I had the salmon arrabiata- a delicious slightly spicy tomato sauce. It was excellent and the salmon itself was perfectly cooked (ie not overcooked). My father had the seafood pasta and said it was fantastic. The service, food and ambiance at Moxie all make it a great choice for dinner. Welcome back Moxie! We missed you!
We decided to pop in on a Wednesday at 5pm and immediately felt under-dressed. I had on shorts and a t-shirt and every group we saw was in formal wear. Thinking better of the decision we turned around while the couple in front of us was seated. While choosing our alternate destination, a woman stopped outside afterward and asked if we needed any help. We explained that we felt out of place. She went on to say that she was the owner and that there was no need to be worried about our attire. Inside we went! The specials were varied and the salmon was amazing. The service was wonderful and the whole atmosphere was pleasant. We stayed for almost an hour and within that time the whole place filled up so I'm sure it is popular for a reason. We will definitely be stopping back.
First time at Moxie on 12/30/25. I haven’t had such great service in years. The food was was delicious. My friend and I had the mushroom soup, excellent and a Cesar salad which was perfect. My entree was the seafood pasta. I was impressed by the ratio of seafood(shrimp, scallop and mussel) to pasta. Sauce seasoning delicious. We ordered wine. My Sauvignon Blanc was exceptional. I recommend reservations. Parking available on the street. Excellent service my the hostess and waitstaff. We will be back!
Moxie in Whitefish Bay was absolutely fantastic! The food was amazing—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The drinks were flowing and expertly made, which really added to the overall experience. On top of that, the servers were incredibly attentive, friendly, and made us feel genuinely welcomed. Everything from start to finish was spot-on. Highly recommend Moxie if you’re looking for great food, great drinks, and great service!
Really a great place. Obviously a lot of time and preparation goes into their food. Didn't have a single complaint. Place is very small, so make a reservation in advance!
Great atmosphere and quality food. All dinners are $18 and up. The Whitefish was average... was missing something. Blueberry Lemon cake and drinks were very good. This is quite a small restaurant inside, there is some outdoor seating but it will fill up fast during peak times. Nice location just east of Bayside mall, it’s a nice walkable area anywhere near the restaurant.
This is a great, albeit small, eatery that has something tasty for anyone. I went for lunch during the week and the place was pretty busy. I'm told to call ahead to get dinner reservations or you will have to wait. I tried several things and by far the scallop appetizer was the best. That sauce was perfect by itself! Everything is good so enjoy!
Went here for New years. It was a little cramped but the food was awesome.
I loved my bartender/server Tonia. She was fantastic. The resteraunt it's self was really cute, welcoming, yet professional. I got the seafood special, it was great! The pasta wasn't cooked all the way through and the barbies in the bathroom were weird. I reccomend this place for sure, it's probably bc I got the special that maybe the pasta wasn't cooked. As for the barbies, maybe it's art I don't understand. Fantastic service and great food.
High quality good tasting cuisine. Good service. Uniquely decored, comfortable restaurant with a bit of an upscale feel. Good bar area intended for socializing. Plenty of street parking near by. The only negative is portions are a little small for big eaters.
Been here for brunch twice and dinner once but never left disappointed. Cozy intimate place with great food. Diverse menu for different eaters. Only complaint is their beer menu is a little short. Most recent visit I had the salmon special with a mushroom risotto and side of roasted veggies. Salmon was fresh, flavor and cooked properly topped with a presto. Risotto was delicious and not overly rich. Wish I saved room for dessert but that's another reason to return.
Ridiculously disappointed with our experience at Moxie. Surprising considering the location and price. I’d have expected fine, fine dining. Instead we received a salad with a ladybug (Asian beetle) in it. Now, to be fair, that can happen to the best of restaurants. But could you imagine still asking the patron to pay for the salad they brought back? Missed opportunity to do the right thing. My wife and I both had the ribeye. Don’t! Overcooked and flat as a skirt steak. They even cut it prior to tabling. Why? To let out the heat and moisture? Bummer. Subpar food, WAY overpriced, unfortunate bug in food with no semblance on how to remedy the situation. Bummer for my birthday. Drinks were awesome, however. **Edit: The restaurant responded to my review by refunding the cost of the salad. When this occurs, I will amend my review.**
I heard a lot of great things about Moxie, and am a huge fan of Trouble and Sons, so was excited to finally try this place. Unfortunately, I left disappointed. Service was a little slow, and our entrees were mostly lukewarm. My red snapper was dry, as was the risotto. The braised short ribs did not fall off the bone, but rather were also a little dry. The house salads were ok, but would have preferred the cucumbers and tomatoes be sliced instead of diced. On the upside, the cream of broccoli soup was amazing and the dishes as a whole were flavorful. Our lemon drop martinis were tasty, but the dirty martini had a tad too much olive juice, but was also tasty. The atmosphere was quaint, cozy and warm. Despite being disappointed, I would be willing to give Moxie another try.
The grilled Romaine Salad topped with grilled salmon was outstanding. Two of us had Chicken Picante fried too long, leaving a hard crust and tough dried out chicken. Neither of us could taste lemon,so we squeezed several lemon wedges ok on it. Also the sauce was too thick, like hollandaise. In 3 years this was the first time we were disappointed in your food.Drinks, wine and Tanquray Martini were very good per usual.
A little overpriced for the area and the menu items. The food was good, don't get me wrong. We were seated in the motorcycle alleyway area inside the restaurant between the bar and the server station. It was a loud area for a high top. Would like to try the outside patio as that looked adorable.
This place was extremely "meh". I will say the service was good. The dining room as a whole is very loud and very crammed. i was sitting at my table and people were all around me trying to get a drink at the bar. When it comes to the food I thought it was very mediocre. I had the cioppino and I think they missed some key elements. My girlfriend had a white sauce dish and it was much tastier.
Uneven food quality. Tiramisu was wonderful, sandwich was alright, but my $45 steak was waterlogged and bland. That said, staff were fast and friendly in a positive atmosphere.
We had dinner here last Saturday with a couple of friends. Seating outside was no issue and the atmosphere was very nice. It wasn't very busy. Unfortunately that seems to be the end of good things to say. Our waiter was entirely disinterested. It took more than 15 minutes to get our drinks after we placed the order. When our food came out, everyone got their dishes aside from me. My plate came out more than 10 minutes after the rest of the table's did. My partner, who had ordered the market steak, was extremely disappointed. It was clear his food had sat at the hot plate for quite a while before it was brought out to us. I'll say my dish was tasty, but very disappointing that it came out so much later than the rest of the table.. Our waiter didn't check on us once after our food was delivered. He only came to our table about 20 minutes later to drop off the check without even asking if there was anything else we would like. All in all it wasn't a great experience, which was very disappointing after reading so many good reviews.
The food and our waiter was amazing. As we were waiting for our waiter to bring our receipt and card, a staff member approached us and asked “did you pay yet? We need this table for our next reservation.” It made me feel some type of way. I know the place is busy and we’re waiting at the same time. She didn’t even asked the waiters before asking us. Would I come again. I would have to think twice. Poor service at the end.
Great service and outdoor seating however, wouldn’t say the same for the food. I ordered the seafood scampi and I was not happy with it. It came in a very white creamy sauce, which shrimp scampi should not be in. My friends also ordered pasta on their menu and they were disappointed. I love pasta and so this was very disappointing for me. Most things on the menu are so expensive and after trying the shrimp scampi (thinking it would be amazing because it’s so expensive), i was not happy with my meal at all. I definitely won’t be coming back here again.
They changed the chef , the name of the dishes kept the same but the quality isn’t. Not as good as it used to. The service is super slow, you will be expecting to spend at least an hour and a half to two hours here, we went just the two of us and we were there for two hours. Each round of the food would take around 45 minutes. They don’t have draft beer and also don’t have many choice of beers to pick from, beer was so stale, no bubble, it must be old.
Went for brunch and the food and drink was average at best. I expressed to the waiter that the steak and potatoes were quite bland and could I have steak sauce and ketchup to at least make them more enjoyable to eat. Even that did not do much for the meal. Quick tip: If I tell you the meal is not good, I don't expect a discount or anything along those lines. I do expect a simple, "I'm sorry your meal was not enjoyable."
I grew up in Texas with a tonnn of money in a very food oriented family and spent a LOT of time eating at excellent restaurants, many of which ended up going under within a few years of opening. I learned to spot when a restaurant was going to go under within minutes of entering the establishment. This is not one of those excellent restaurants by any stretch of the imagination. Let me put it this way, this place is trying too hard to be a fine dining establishment when it clearly is not. The food is flavorless, and I could tell within five minutes of walking in that the place is doomed to fail. Personally, when it does eventually fail, I will consider it a mercy to both Whitefish Bay AND the world. The only saving grace this sham of a restaurant has is its lovely wait staff and the wonderful bartender, and I would even venture to say that the cooks’ talent is wasted on this place. If you are looking to eat good food, don’t waste your time or money on this shoddy excuse of a restaurant. Thoroughly disappointed.
Good atmosphere and drinks, but would strongly not recommend the food or service. The appetizers and entrees are clearly garnished first then plated around that, rather than the other way around. Along with the shrimp and scallops being over-cooked. Simply put, at nicer restaurants you usually get great quality with lower quantity, Moxie had both low quality and quantity compared to the pricing. The Berries & Cream Chocolate cake was delicious, but they leave their desserts off the menu so you can't see how small yet overpriced they are.
Surprised by such good reviews of the food. Our service was good, the decor is nice (though the narrowness of the space makes it quite loud), but the food was rather disappointing to me. The fries were mushy and undercooked, the burger was presented oddly, with a smaller misshapen patty on a large, dry ciabatta roll. A companion's salmon sandwich looked overcooked, the salads were very boring & plain. They only have two beers on tap, one of which was out, and just a few traditional bottle choices. Wine list isn't very well curated to all price points. Disappointed overall.
I won't be back. I've only been to Moxie a couple of times & had mixed experiences, but my latest visit will be my last. I met a friend for an early, 5pm reservation. She was already sitting with water when I arrived. 15 minutes later no one had come by & I still didn't even have water. We had to flag someone down. Our server eventually came, took our drink & app order & share the specials. She noted that "French Onion" soup was the soup of the day. We received our cheeseboard & drinks, both of which were very tasty. However, nearly an hour had passed and still no soup nor had she stopped by so we could inquire. Eventually, I caught her attention & asked about the soups. She apologized and said she had "spaced." She returned moments later with two, tiny sad bowls of nothing but broth & onions. There was no bread, no cheese. It was onion soup, NOT French onion. I had to flag her down again & re-iterate that she said the special was "French Onion." She said 'yes, but our's is different." She then offered to put bread & cheese on the side. What?!? Then she took our bowls and said she would fix it. Moments later she came back with the same bowls with some croutons & parmesan sprinkles on top. Very disappointing all-around.
Used to be excellent food but can no longer recommend. Several times I gave it a "second try" as it is one of the few restaurants in the Bay have been disappointing. Most recent experience out with colleagues had a significantly overcooked burger (well done plus burnt) when two of us ordered med-rare at $18 each. Not going back again and never recommending again.
Arrived at 12 party of 3. Service slow. All other patrons served before us. Our party was all part of high end well known Milwaukee restaurants. We wanted to see what the hype was about and very disappointed. Burger and bun burnt, Truffle melt burnt and shrimp unedible due to heat level and watery mess. We where served at 1:45 almost 2hours after seated. Highly disappointed would not recommend.
